I'm sad for all the people that don't get to experience this game for themselves from the beginning to the end, it is an absolutely emotional rollercoaster and a game that makes you feel things no other videogame ever has. It is a shame that this game is being review bombed by haters.

I my opinion i don't think the game is a 10/10 but it sure as hell isn’t a 4.6 either.

I would rate this game a 8/10 - It's has some problems pacing wise and there is not enough variation in the gameplay for it to take 25-30 hours to finish.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have actually played this game through the beginning to the end. I’m not just some fan that’s watched a bunch of YouTube videos coming here to throw around ‘SJW’ and give it a 1/10. This game is great. Not comparable to the first, but great. The main big gripe I see with most reviews is the death of Joel. If you played the game, you would know why Joel met his demise. Put yourself in Abby’s shoes. If someone killed your father, you would go out of your way to end this persons life. That is exactly what Abby did, and in a way she’s justified in her actions even though I do have love for Joel. Joel killed her father. Abbys entire backstory is painted throughout the entirety game, so you come to understand why she feels the way she does. At the beginning of the game, I hated her. But throughout the game as you play through her sections, her backstory is fleshed out so you get a better understanding of her actions and reasonings. I came to like her almost as much as Ellie by the final scene. Joel was selfish for killing everyone at the hospital to save Ellie, but I also understand why he did. Also, for the plotholes. The only one I keep seeing is about Ellie wearing a gas mask. Again, if you played the game, you would understand because this is brought up about halfway through the game. Joel tells Ellie to always keep her mask on near spores Incase they run into another survivor. Ellie’s immunity is still a secret in this game. Towards the end of the game, after playing as both Ellie and Abby for hours and hours, I came to sympathize with the both of them. They were both doing what they thought was right because of the death of a loved one, even though Abby kept sparing Ellie’s life but Ellie could not let it go and kept going on her revenge quest which eventually in the end made her lose most things she loved. I felt bad for Ellie towards the end, but that was the predicament she kept putting herself and the people around her in over and over again. If you set out for revenge, you best dig two graves. I got this game on midnight release, and have just completed the main story. Beware scores of 1 or 0 from reviews posted within a few hours of release.

The story is obviously the main problem for people who have been excited about this for a long time. I’m seeing a lot of complaints about ‘LGBT propaganda’ and ‘SJW fanboys’. Having experienced the entire plot, I really don’t see that. Ellie is gay; this was established way back in the DLC for the first game. Her romantic interest is defined by that.

As for the SJW stuff... There’s literally one small issue about Ellie’s sexuality, and that gets resolved almost immediately. Other than that, the ethical side of homosexuality is never explored. If you have a fundamental problem with gay people, you’ll hate this. If not, you’ll be just fine.

As for the actual plot itself, it’s very good, but weaker than the first game. Naughty Dog have tried to write a scathing and uncomfortable commentary on the so-called ‘cycle of violence’ (sic) and how severe, lingering trauma can cause even the best of us to do truly horrific things. Hate begets hate. The ‘traumatic event’ is very, very controversial. You might hate the choice ND made here. I thought it was a bold move.
What the game amounts to is, on the surface, a good old fashioned revenge story - but the various intertwining story points and character defects lead to something far more subtle, complex, and dark, with real weight and consequences to your actions. That being said, it can often crack under the weight of its own ambition - the first game was comparatively very simple, and morally easy-to-follow for the most part. This led to a very satisfying plot with an ending we’re still talking about today. TLOU2 doesn’t quite deliver the goods on this count. It’s a much better and stronger story than most are claiming, but it’s not really up there with the first. Also, certain major characters are far more fleshed out than others, which can affect the emotional impact of the game.

I won’t spoil any story points, but the second half of the game came as a major surprise to me and it took me a while to get used to. I definitely didn’t enjoy it as much as the first half. It certainly lends a lot of weight to the choices already made, but it shouldn’t have been as long and drawn out as it was. I personally would have much happier with a shorter, more focussed experience.
Also, the jumping back-and-forth in time started getting on my wick after a while. It feels like padding.

Now that that’s out of the way, the other stuff:

The graphics and sound design are incredible. One of the best-looking and best sounding games not just on PS4, but on any platform. Play with headphones if you can. The voice acting and motion capture are amazing. The lighting and animation are as close to perfect as I’ve ever seen. You can really, really feel the brutality and messiness of the violence in this game.
The gameplay is very strong. It plays very like the first game, but far smoother and more organic. The stealth mechanics have been tweaked nicely. The level design is very open and rewards exploration, both for supplies and for getting the drop on your enemies. The levels are far larger and less linear, it’s mostly up to you wether you want to sneak or tank it. Both play styles are catered to and well-balanced.

The infected are very similar to the first game. The new types of infected fit into the world very well.
The two factions operate quite differently from each other, leading to more variation going against the living than in TLOU1.

They really oversold the ‘almost open-world’ stuff. While there is one particularly massive area in the game, I don’t think it’s available beyond a certain very early part of the plot, and there’s nowhere near as much exploration to be done in this part as you’d hope. Think Madagascar in Uncharted 4. For the vast majority of the game it’s the same as the first in that you move through one area to another, and the game closes behind you. It’s a series of sequenced levels, according to the plot’s needs. Honestly, that’s a good thing - tight and tense at all times.

Final word: It’s definitely worth buying and playing. If you liked how the first game plays, you’ll love that part. It’s really up to you wether or not you like the plot, or the characters’ choices. I personally liked them even though I often didn’t agree with the characters. I loved the ending, but totally understand why people wouldn’t. Play it and make your own mind up.

    TLDR:
    Graphics/sound/acting: 10/10
    Gameplay: 9/10
    Story: 7/10
Loads of fun to play. You might not like the plot, but it’s a bold risk. A major technical achievement. A bit too long. If you’re still not sure, wait for sale prices. Beware; Lesbians involved.

I know for a fact I did for the most part even though I was upset with some of the decisions they made. It had me emotional in some moments especially the ending had me on tears and I don't cry at a lot of things. The game really grasped me in it's story. The acting is the best I have ever seen in a video game, and maybe even in all media, I just can't get over how good it was, every moment felt real. The animations were top notch and the enemy AI was a lot more intelligent than in the first game and most games I've played. However there was a moment in the game where it didn't really feel like it took place in a The Last of us world type setting which I did not really like. And even if the story doesn't appeal to you the gameplay wise this game is phenomenal and still worth picking up in my opinion. I would also like to mention that I was upset with the false advertising. Nevertheless I still very much enjoyed the game and I am looking forward to Naughty Dog's next game.

I can say that is a good game, graphics, music, ambient, everything in the game is so wonderful, I'm impressed with the entire work of Naughty Dog. Taking part with the story, I think that is a good way to show the humanity in his entire point of view, because you can get there and try to revenge one of your loved ones... But it's difficult to make it, this game makes me think about and I love the final decision. The only thing that I feel so disgusting at the beginning, is the change of character at the middle of the game because restart my character progress and it forces to complete that, many difficult to get used with Abby, but at the end you can realize without problems.

A must play, yes but I think you can wait for a sale, not with this full price.

After playing around 17hours so far, I can honestly say that this is a brilliant game. I can admit that other than Ellie, I haven’t really felt for the characters in this title like I did in the first. Even the bad guys made me pity them in the first game. But that does not mean that there is nothing that keeps you emotionally attached, far from it.
All in all, a stupendous game that falls short of the brilliance of its predecessor by a hairs width.

Tonight I played TLOU2... exciting game! I think the rating on Metacritic and other sites is not high 'cause real game does not meet expectation of the part of gamers. Here is detailed thoughts about it...
There are literary works that must be read, such as «Philosophy in the Boudoir» by Marquis de Sade. It instantly catches the attention of a lay reader with the pornographic scenes. That means that most of the readers can't see any background philosophy in this masterpiece. If you are an experienced reader - you know that all the pornographic scenes just should be faded and focus goes on the dialogues between them.
This principle also works for TLOU2... atmosphere, entourage, gameplay and sexual orientation of heroes are not the target TLOU2. There should be a main question: what is it all about? In my opinion it is about different things with similar ways. Overcoming internal contradictions that goes against the nature of the main characters unites them.
There are 2 heroines ... Abby was obsessed with revenge and had killed person who was close to Ellie. Abby had a deep hope that after the act of revenge she would feel peace in her soul ... but this never happened. After the murder of Joel, Ellie becomes obsessed with revenge. We observe how does she follow the same way (actually). Conventional wisdom slowly prevails ... and now Abby realizes that the endless series of revenges and deaths must be interrupted, that is why she lets go of Dina and Ellie. Ellie stays «one step behind» with problem understanding. Her desire to take revenge still did not go completely. Finally, she also finds the internal strength to stop killing. In last scenes, both heroines are devastated and crippled in their souls. Heroines disappear ... and obviously they will seek for the strength inside themselves to live.

What will TLOU3 looks like (sooner or later it will definitely come out)... I see 4 ways for Ellie:
    1) She will live the hermit life (but you can’t create a game with it);
    2) In the last scene, our attention is focused on the «Cicad» symbol. Perhaps now Ellie (who is now left alone) sees her mission in finding them and sacrificing herself for the salvation of humanity for the second time;
    3) A pregnant girl in a gas mask was depicted on the TLOU poster in Uncharted 4. Perhaps it was Ellie ... in this case, the child can make sense of her life, especially since in the game we saw how her attitude towards children changes: at first they annoy her (her and Dina’s dialogue at the very beginning in front of the stage snowball games) and then, she quite joyfully plays with Dina’s child, so that anything can happen;
    4) She will meet again with Abby and «the two loneliness will find each other» (but this, in my opinion, is too primitive).

Now about the opinions of other people ...
Many playlists say that the actions of the main characters are not logical ... so the actions of any person who is blinded by revenge lie outside standard logic.
As for the dull and monotonous gameplay - I agree. But in my opinion, developers have an excuse: no one has ever made games with such a multi-level narrative design. Moreover, I believe that what Drakhman conceived cannot be fully embodied in the game. It's like with a puppet theater: can a doll play all the roles? Akella from Mowgli - yes, because it's just only image. But can marionette play the role of the White Fang by Jack London? No ... because White Fang is a character. Conceived by Drakman is not suitable for the game. Only a book can perform such a depth of design.

My opinion: the game deserves a rating of 8/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is cutting edge in graphics sound design and it’s soundtrack. It’s gameplay does not differ much from its predecessor apart from a dodge button and a jump button, my only complaint with the game is the story the first half where you get to play as Ellie where you try to get revenge for the murder of Joel is its best part but after you kill Nora the game does a 180 and you play as Abby arguably the worst character in the game. Not only that she kills Joel Ellie father and probably the player’s favorite character. Playing as Abby was unneeded and kills the pacing which is the worst part of the game there’s fun parts here and there but it only picks up again when you take back control of Ellie the ending could have been so much better than it was. All of the buildup of killing Abby, Ellie finally gets her chance and she backs out because she wanted to stop the cycle I guess. The ending would have worked so much better if she killed Abby and came back and realized she lost everything for petty revenge. In the end this game could have been so much better but the developers wanted to try to humanize Abby which ultimately ruined half of the game other than that this game is a pretty good and I would recommend it for hardcore fans of the series. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Really great gameplay and graphics. Story was 70 percent really good and 40 percent boring and uninteresting. The thing that happens at the end of the prologue didn't bother me and I thought it was a great way to start of the game. However *SPOILERS* playing as Abby for almost 10 hours really brought the game down in my opinion. I understand trying to make her more compelling and I'm glad they tried and I liked the parallel with Joel on the first game but her section has very little to do with Ellies. I was expecting to see my actions as Ellie in a new light as Abby and when, for example I didn't go to the hospital again as Abby I was really confused. It also lasts way to long, 5-6 hours would have been better.

That being said while it might not reach the greatness of the first I still think about 70 percent of it is a 10/10 story , with the rest being a 6 or something.

    First off, the leaks
The leaks are what killed this game for many people, the ending and the characters were out of context in just cutscenes. You have to play through this game to understand the arc of the characters and why they do the things they do.
Take for example the first game. Joel decides to save Ellie from having surgery, he kills innocent people and takes a chance of a cure away from the world. If this was shown in a few cutscenes, this would seem stupid. But if you play through the game and build a connection between Joel and Ellie, his actions seem more justified. This is what happens in this game.
Ellie decides to spare Abby in the final fight. She spares the killer of her only father figure and one of the fan's most beloved characters. But you find out why if you take in the flashbacks. She tries to forgive Joel for getting rid of the chance for a vaccine, so why can't she try and forgive Abby for what she did. By killing Abby she'd be no better than she was, so she lets her go, but not without a beating.
I am not saying this game is up to par with most of ND's writing, but I found the game and it's story engaging and I enjoyed it a lot.

I can understand why the people don’t like this game though. I went into this game expecting it to be extremely dark and no fun at all. It wasn’t as dark as I thought it would be, but still moderately depressing. It’s pretty fun too. I wasn’t getting annoyed at (most) fights like I did in part 1. The story, which is many people’s main problem, isn’t all that bad either. It’s just super depressing. It had me staring at the screen sometimes. There’s some happier parts too that keep the story from being way too dark. A lot of people also had a problem with Abby, but I honestly liked her. Not as much as I like Ellie, but she’s still pretty solid. My least favorite part of the story was definitely the final chapter and the ending, but it’s mostly because I didn’t like seeing Ellie like how she was. I was secretly hoping for at least a bittersweet ending, so it was really sad to see what actually happened. It’s sort of open ended like the first game’s end, but in a way I don’t exactly like. It’s also sort of weird that Ellie just lets Abby go. I’d like to think it’s because Lev was there, but I honestly have no idea. Anyways, this game is still worthwhile if you want your mind **** with. Might have to play through it a couple more times to appreciate it more or less. Expand

If you like the game mechanics of the first one you will definitely like the new installment. The world building, graphics and attention to detail is unlike anything i have ever seen. I would have preferred if the story was taken in a different direction than just a revenge quest but what we got i felt wasnt as bad as its conveyed by so many other reviewers. This game is divided into two characters and they both are playable characters (Abby and Ellie). I believe that Ellie's section f the game could have used better characters and more scripted action sequences or a more layered objectives rather than just going to a destination to find a person. As much as i hated Abby for killing Joel, her section of the gameplay was much more interesting than Ellie's as i found Lev and yara
to be better side charactrers than Jesse and Dina. Even the gameplay segments were very unique and clever as opposed to Ellies gameplay run. The entire game made me uncomfortable several times but not for its brutality but for having to play as the person who killed one of the most beloved character in gaming world. However i deeply enjoyed every aspect of the game. The emotions were thoroughly delivered. the voice acting and the cut scenes were phenominal. The story is bold and divisive but not extremely bad. It sure has its flaws but it is still worth enjoying this amazing experience.

Expand

Right after I had completed the game, I said to myself “Holy **** this may have been one of the best games I have ever played.” About 40 or so minutes after, that joy for this depressing game of 24 hours of straight misery porn hit me. I began to question their choices and I did not understand the ending. I was frustrated with how they handled the story and how the treated characters. 1 day later, I analyzed the game with a fresh mindset, and appreciate the story more.

Understandably, the game has received a lot of backlash upon its release from gamers due to the first entry's main protagonist Joel being slaughtered within the first two hours of the game. As a testament to the first entry, fans have developed a personal connection to the character of Joel and having them play as his killer adds extra salt to the wound. At the time me writing this, a major conception for fans is that what they love is sacred and as consumers they are entitled for it go unspoiled. In light of this, risky choices for franchises are generally written off as "subverting expectations" with the implication that nothing lies deeper than the desire of the writers to shock. This recent surge of narrative storytelling is generally inclusive of "diverse" (POC, LGBTIQ) characters who some members of fanbases direct their contempt of storytelling in modern media towards. For me personally TLoU (and really any franchise at large) is not a sacred cow and I'd much rather enjoy something based on the merits of what it is rather than what I think it should be. On with the review.

Gameplay: Despite a marketing campaign built around players feeling bad for their actions, I failed to feel so every time I took an NPCs life. It is a still a videogame with stealth mechanics and weapon modding which I enjoyed playing. No matter how many shades of realism and personalising you coat NPCs with, thinking it's not fun to kill defeats the purpose of playing videogames. Admittedly the gameplay isn't too large a departure from typical Naughty Dog fare (how many **** boosts have we given during the Uncharted series?) and I found aiming to be especially grating to begin with, however as time goes on and you improve skill sets the game itself becomes more functional and enjoyable. Sure, I didn't like Abbie as a person but I probably enjoyed playing her over Ellie when utilizing a stacked weapon roster. The game has a runtime of around 25 hours and despite being a "movie game" I believe to ND's credit they included a lot of gameplay this time around. IF you were to skip all cutscenes I'd imagine there'd still be roughly 15+ hours playtime. Considering this is a third person shooter and not an RPG, that's not too bad.

Soundtrack: Purposefully done so, the soundtrack is quite minimal with music only popping up for enemy encounters and story beats. This works to the game's favour.
Level design: In a world of open world gaming, ND are probably one of the few AAA companies to keep at delivering a linear game experience. The levels in TLoU2 are much more expansive than usual and allow more room for optional exploration. The addition of map space leads to the world building to feel more organic and lived in. Of course players still have to get from A to B but it somewhat feels less contrived. A good majority of the game is simple wide post apocalyptic wastelands and scenic landscapes. Accompanying these with NPC aliies can be enjoyable however going through long stretches of wasteland solo can feel lonely. it is worth noting that TLoU2 is not without some of the most fantastic levels and big budget set pieces I've ever come across from AAA games at their peak. Visually the whole experience looks fantastic and in order to gain a more movie like effect, I'm personally a fan of the film grain filtering the presentation throughout.

Story: TLoU2 is a revenge story sharing similarity with subgenre cohorts such as the Sympathy Trilogy, They Call Her One Eye etc. As a genre exercise it is cruel and nihilistic keeping in line with the genre's mainstay message that revenge hurts the one executing it just as much as the one who receives it. There are flashbacks to better times, there are reminders of the anguish the characters suffer and there is the fact that the grudge is all encompassing - preventing both Abbie and Ellie to see the love they have right in front of them. Sometimes this is heavy handed and other times its executed well. This aside, TLoU2 is wholly focused on telling its story and throughout its runtime spares little time for deviation. The majority of it feels essential to complete its structure. Now does that mean we have to agree with the characters? No. Do we have to even like the characters? No. Despite botched attempts to make you empathize, I would still argue no. I hope that one day audiences will grow to realize that fiction does not need to to tell their personal story and self inserting is erased. Maybe then, with an open mind we can bear witness to what unfolds around us and not feel the need to control it. Funnily enough that's what this game is about: control.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. At the time of writing, there are 23000 negative reviews for the Last of Us Part II. By looking over the achievement scores on my copy of the game, I can see that less than 2 in 100 people have actually finished it. There's also a trophy you can get at the midpoint of the game gained by winning an (admittedly easy) competition, which less than 10 in 100 people have. That doesn't mean that no one writing a negative review has finished the game, there are legitimate issues with the Last of Us 2 that I can't deny (and will try to address, later). But, in that same vein, I don't think everyone panning the game has played it in its entirety

There's a meme going around about a person talking about Part II's 'intended experience', then getting shot in the knee with a shotgun. It's a good point, a game isn't good just because you feel what is intended. But what I do say is that the intended experience behind Part II is worthwhile. And it's not being shot in the knee, if that's what you're thinking

I think a lot of the problems people have with the game stem from blaming Druckmann for the actions of his characters. It's absolutely fair to do so, but, whilst you play the game, I would urge you to think of it as a story in its own right, instead of the aborted fetus of an evil mastermind. In short: have some faith. Naughty Dog knows what it's doing. Come to your conclusions after finishing the game, and don't play it hating Druckmann. Hate his characters

However, word of warning, it is a very different game to the original Last of Us

That's my advice for now. Below here we're getting into spoiler territory. If you own the game, and have quit, disgusted, give it another shot. At the very least, the gameplay is fun, even if you hate the story
    -----

Okay. The big issue with the Part 2, the one central to almost every problem players have with this game, is the death of Joel. It's a big issue. The marketing of the game, which featured Joel prominently, is intended to obfuscate his early and sudden death. Many suspected he might die, but not so early on. I can see why Naughty Dog did it, but it was a huge mistake. People came in expecting a similar game to the original, and bought it wanting that experience. It's not even remotely similar. It does not share the same emotion that made the original so beloved. Part 2 is more sophisticated in many ways, and I think it might be 'better', insofar as I can make that claim, but it will never be enjoyable in the same way.

A lot of people have said that Part 2 is about violence, and revenge. It is, of course. But at the very heart of Ellie and Abby's actions is trauma. A large part of that trauma, for Ellie, is having so much unfinished business with Joel. A feeling the player no doubt shares. This doesn't become obvious until the game is nearly finished, but looking back, the final act is about Ellie dealing with his death. Joel was a bad person, who did bad things, and Ellie hated him but she also loved him and wanted more. It's confused in a way paternal/maternal relationships often are.
So yeah. There's a reason Joel's death is abrupt and sudden, a reason thematically central to the game. Which is ironic, because the abruptness of his death is why most players hate the game.
It's absolutely okay to hate Part 2, but hate it on the level it's meant to be dealt with
Joel dies because he's a happier, less cynical person

There's a lot more to say. Nearly every aspect of the game revolves around exploring its themes. Ellie and Abby are mirrors of one another, their actions and motivations very similar, one post-retribution, the other pre-retribution. The reason so much screen time is devoted to Abby is that Naughty Dog believes that the story would be incomplete without exploring both. The conflict between WLF and the Seraphites (Wolves and Scars) features trauma and revenge on a cultural scale. Everything about the game (except for some gameplay sections, I guess, but there are also gameplay sections that ARE focused on it) is bent towards exploring this theme, and I think Part 2 does so in a sophisticated manner

Not much space, I'll try to address issues with the narrative quickly

Most noticeably, narrative pacing is off. The first quarter of Abby's arc is spent without any sort of real, intriguing motivation for the player, beyond revisiting the cliffhanger. It works to push players forward, but most of the time when the plot gets slow there are excellent gameplay segments or environments to distract. Not so here. I spent a lot of that time bored, until meeting Lev. Naughty Dog attempts to intrigue the player by hinting at 'another side to the story' but it doesn't work until later

Cultural retribution, a fascinating concept, remains largely unexplored except in small dialogue sections. A shame since there is so much empty space with Abby to work with

Abby's sex scene is weird, there's no denying

    Advertising is well-meaning, but deceptive

It’s not shoved down your throat and is handled the same way as most heterosexual romances in games. Also in regards to Joel’s death in the first hr of the game, this was not unexpected. If you payed attention in the first fake you’d notice they Joel and his Brother Tommy did a lot of bad things to survive and throughout the first game you anger various groups on your way toward the end of the game. After the climax of the first game and how it ends it makes sense that certain groups would hold a grudge and possibly hunt down Joel. Joel’s story is still very important in this game and he makes appearances in Ellie’s flashbacks. TL,DR If you liked the first one and you don’t mind playing as a Girl who likes girls then you will prob like this one too... Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A lot of people who dog on this game, simply chooses not to understand the game. They choose not to accept the writing because they are typically petty that the writers would have consequences to impacting actions from the first game. let's talk about the first game, it was a masterpiece in storytelling. Naughty Dog had a lot of expectations to deliver another astounding story, and in my opinion, they did. The music, atmosphere, graphics are all astounding. Game-play is rough from time to time, usually with enemies being or allies being broken (not in the sense that I suck, just that dodging only worked like half the time). However, there are great moments of game-play such as the island, the sky-bridge, the rat-king, and almost all of Santa Barbara. The only reasons I'm giving this game an 8 and not a 10 like the first game was some storytelling decisions. I understand why Abby would want to kill Joel, I get why Ellie let go of Abby when she could have easily killed her. I am almost entirely okay with the plot. Some things that threw me off is why Joel would easily trust a stranger and going back to their place. There probably could have been a way better, more logical reason to kill off Joel and kick off the story, this was not it. Also when you're playing as Abby, the whole Lev and Yara sideline, in retrospect, did not feel like it fit the entire story. They were entertaining, but I don't know if it was for the sake of the entirety. Another story issue, and was a very main thing, why would I want to play the antagonist and try and kill Ellie? I believe Naughty Dog wants us to feel conflicted, but I already felt conflicted. Last Of Us fans have played way more numbers of hours as Ellie and very few as Abby, so why would I want to kill her? No one in this story is perfect. I think Naughty Dog deliberately made about everyone savages, which I'm fine with, but I don't want to be playing as Abby and going against the person I'd rather be playing, it took me out of the game, personally. Even though the ending in this game was not as hard-hitting as the first, I still understood and enjoyed it somewhat. They probably could have improved on it rather than choosing to leave a bitter, sour taste in my mouths. Preferably end with a cut scene, that has Ellie and Joel bonding. I'm okay with her forgiving Joel, but at least have them hugging or something, to reward the people who have played twenty plus hours.

Those are my issues, critiques, praises of the game. Please stop being petty about writing decisions that you choose not to even being willing to understand. Give Naughty Dog credit for at least giving good graphics and game play and the balls and bravery to tell a story like this.

It’s not that I don’t like the last of us 2 it’s just like I don’t know I feel the first game had a more realistic story like in the first game the first 3 hours are brutal and you see how time has made Joel who he was and throughout the whole game Ellie breaks him down and he lets her in. In the beginning of the second game you smoke weed, have sex, the death of Joel, and a pregnancy twist from Dina..... like I just feel the first one had more of a grounded story and not like a zombie drama like the walking dead the second one is like. Now I still love the game and seeing Ellie grown up and definitely the death of Joel and even Tommy Made me cry like a baby. I just think that the story is trying to hard to be a drama like those zombie shows and it’s a little off putting after years of playing and crying to the first game. Expand

It's really good. I personally enjoy the Last of us more for the world building not so much the characters themselves. This game is a beautiful Display of a apocalypse future that isn't shy of showing the reality of mankind without true leadership. I found the Relationship between each character spot on for the world they inhabit.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To be frank, I truly believe that, this game requires multiple playthroughs and hours of thought put into the themes of the story before coming to a final review on this game. This is my initial reaction after my first complete playthrough of the story.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am going to break down what I think.
    1) The gameplay, visuals, and the world-building in the game is outstanding. Even though the game is mostly linear, it does give the player options to explore and choose their own path in areas like Seattle where you are in charge of a large open map. You can either visit all of them or not. It's up to you. I hope I don't have to explain why TLOU2 might be the best looking game on the PS4. The facial animation and in-game facial moments are really good and it adds to the experience subtly. The enemies are more aware of the surroundings. I played it in the Normal mode and if you can see the enemy, the enemy can see you, just like the real world. The stealth feels satisfying and the dogs bump the difficulty in many areas. I loved it. Even though the gameplay is brutal with its ultra-realistic deaths, I think it fits well withing what they are going for narratively.
    2) The audio and environmental sounds are really well done. Although i would have liked some more of the original tracks from Gustavo especially since this is a 25hr game. But I enjoyed the auditory experience, I just hoped I had more of it.
    3) The UI is similar to TLOU part 1 but the AI is significantly better. See 1
    4) The story is very complex in its own terms. I did have a very powerful emotional reaction at the end of the game. Seeing Abby carry Lev just like Joel carried Ellie at the end of the first game, and Ellie trying to kill Abby brings to the cycle of violence theme, and it hits hard. I was depressed for a whole day at what happened. Do I approve of it?
    .
Not completely but yes to the most part. I think that the same theme may have been told in a better way. The game is too bleak and depressing and it's not because of the fall of humanity or the need for survival like depicted in the first game but for revenge and hatred. I am not an expert in the human condition but this revenge sometimes didn't bode with me well. But I did understand most of the decisions made by the characters and I think that playing the game the second time will make it even more sense. However, there are major pacing issues especially in the second part when playing as Abby. Meeting Yara and Lev were very nice but how they met after the abrupt cuts, Lev running away on the boat and many hours spent chasing Lev felt like a little drag and could have done better. Of course, the reason for that is to make sure Yara gets killed and to show what violence brings by burning down the island. But the way it was executed was a little bad.
    5) I never thought I will see a resident evil type villain in TLOU2. It just feels so out of place as TLOU was a game grounded in reality and had a hard time believing that in the world of TLOU there can exist such a monster. Of course, I am talking about the one we encounter during Abby's supply run. Overgrown fungal infection over multiple bodies in such a way that their neural connections are linked making it a single organism made of a collective seemed too much for a Cordyceps fungus to manage. Hell! I don't even manage both my hand properly when playing piano and we are talking about 5-10 different bodies being controlled by a parasitic fungus.I wished that the Boss battle never existed.
6)there are many areas where both infected and humans exist and you can use it against one another. I liked it. I also thought the puzzles are really good. I felt good about myself when solving a couple of them. I loved the idea of safes in the game, it rewarded exploration in a good way.
    .
The Last of Us 2 is not a perfect game but its a must-play game, according to me. It has a lot of issues but the fact that it made me think for 2 days straight about what happened in the game and its themes proves the fact that it is a thought-provoking game. It does touch on many themes very well. If you are a fan of the first game, I think you won't regret playing the second. Don't expect a time like u played Spiderman. This is TLOU2 its bleak, sad, depressing, and u will be emotionally drained by the end of it. But it's worth it.
    .
    .
    .
If I were to give it a score I would probably give it a 7.5. I usually love the movies above 7 in IMDB and 7.5 for TLOU2 is a good score according to me but of course, the first game is a 9-10 for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After playing The Last of Us 2 I must say I’m left very conflicted when it comes to my thoughts on the game’s story. My major grievance with the story is that by the third act after Ellie leaves behind Dina and the baby the game essentially becomes misery porn where the character you cared for since the original game is left broken both physically and mentally with nothing to show for it. I’m not saying the story is necessarily bad but in my opinion it gets way too nihilistic in the end for its own good. I have always enjoyed dark stories and bitter sweet endings but this game goes overboard in that regard at the very end with a hopless and futile ending with no light having been on the other side which isn’t bad with a series that deals in that regard, but with the first Last of Us the dark tone was meant to be offset by bittersweet moments and small moments of light hearted comedy whereas this game abandons all hope and the style of story that made the predecessor a masterpiece in writing. Aside from the story. The gameplay, graphics, and voice acting is top notch. The Last of Us 2 is a technical marvel but with a very divisive story. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I know this game is really polarizing for a bunch of fans and I was slightly disappointed with the ending. But it took me a while to internalize it and think about the story as a whole. Yes the killing of a main character sucks, but this isn’t the first game to do that. The LGBTQ aspects of the game DO NOT bother me whatsoever because it doesn’t make it the main focus of the game. There is no doubt that everything but the story is amazing. Crafting is familiar, weapon upgrading is familiar, the visuals are amazing, voice and motion capture is amazing, combat is way way better. Open level design, etc. Do I think Ellie should’ve killed Abby? I really wanted her to. It would’ve finally given her closure and justice. But where would that have gotten her in the end? She still would’ve ended up going back to a home without Dina and JJ.

As much as Ellie hates Abby for killing Joel, what Ellie says to Joel the night before he dies “I don’t think I can ever forgive you for that, but I would like to try.” Also kind of ties into the final fight with Abby. She can never forgive Abby for killing Joel (even though she had every reason to) but she’d like to try forgive because of what Joel did to Ellie. She was on the verge of leaving Joel for good because of the lies he told her. Overall, it’s not a terrible game, it’s not an amazing game, I would be categorized it between good and great. It’s definitely not as good as the 1st game. I also don’t think it really lives to the 7 year hype. Again, this game will polarize the fans, but I think everyone needs to step back and really really understand the story in great length. The game was about HATE, I wasn’t really expecting a happy ending to a game about HATE.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In my honest opinion I think this game was phenomenal, just like the first. I usually have an open mind and take a realistic approach to everything in my life so I feel that Joel’s death wasn’t shocking in any way. Similar to Glenn dying in the Walking Dead. Gameplay and Graphics are improved and the survival aspect for the game feels realistic. Ammo, Med-kits, and Supplies are all scarce. The story isn’t necessarily bad either like everyone seems to say. Just because the Hero doesn’t save the day doesn’t mean it’s bad storytelling. The major problem is that the plot is scattered everywhere when there’s flashbacks so it feels like a mess. Also, the 2nd half of the game where you play as Abby was drawn out way too much and I couldn’t help but feel no sympathy for her through 90% of her gameplay. It could've been shown with a couple cutscenes rather than 5+ hours of gameplay. The game made me get a soft spot for side characters rather than the main characters. Owen, Dina, Jesse, and Mel are all very well written characters with decent backstories. However, I feel that Ellie didn't have enough time to show more of her character. Abby’s character is the exact opposite. Too much was shown of her backstory and most of it didn’t even add to the story. At most points in this game there’s a cutscene with music where I would believe sounds like an ending but it just keeps going onto more gameplay. If they wanted this game to be a lot better, I think they should’ve made Abby’s gameplay DLC but still keeping her backstory in the main game through cutscenes or clues that Ellie finds out. Now let’s talk about the ending phases. Having to play as Abby in the “final” showdown was really a poor choice. Gamers want to play as Ellie in a fight, not Abby. But the 2nd showdown in Santa Barbara was really fun to play. Reminded me of the showdown in Uncharted 4’s ending. The thing that ruined my “reward” for playing this game is that Ellie didn’t kill Abby, even after she bit her two fingers off. That satisfaction from the fight was ruined and I felt nothing for the revenge tale. The actual ending I find to be very heartwarming though. Ellie is no longer able to play the guitar because of her missing fingers and it gives a flashback to see Joel playing the same song. Every Time I saw Joel in the flashbacks I couldn’t help but shed a tear. The game ends with Ellie setting the guitar down and walking off to hopefully find Dina and her child. A bleak but open ending which describes this whole game. This game isn’t for people who want the hero to win like almost every game does. It’s to tell a story about a dark realistic world in a post-apocalyptic setting. Overall I thought the game was fantastic. Besides some parts from the game that could be cut I have no big problem with it. Everyone seems to go at Neil Druckmann for “bad storytelling” even though he wrote half of Uncharted 4 and wrote all of The Last Of US (2 games that were critically acclaimed). The story telling and writing isn’t bad, it’s just not what the normal person/gamer wanted. If you play this game, remember to have an open mind and see the different perspectives of every character in the story. It's a solid game and I feel that it's worth playing. Expand

8,5/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game isnt perfect, and worse than the first one. But more than half of these reviews are by people who have either not even touched the game or have not even finished it, which u can tell based on the fact that 18k ppl review bombed it in the first few hours when this is a 20+ hr game and from the fact that a lot of the reviews have no clue what happened in the game, which is quite sad, because this is a good game. The best parts of the game are the graphics and the gameplay, but the story isn't nearly as good. I don't understand why tf they made us play as Abby after she killed Joel, I feel like playing as Abby should've been dlc or smth rather than something I have to do to see the finale. But the parts with Abby still had enjoyable gameplay and great scenes. Now the story, it wasn't bad but not great either. The only two problems I really had was the **** ending, and playing as Abby, I understand that the end is supposed to show how Ellie accepts Joel's death and knows that killing her wont bring Joel back. But Ellie killed hundreds of people to get to her, and now when she finally does she feels empathy or regret?

Anyways apart from that the game is pretty fantastic, playing on the hardest difficulty was extremely fun to add a sense of realism and made each encounter so much more stressful and exciting. And even though there aren't too many new things in stealth, the fact that u can now prone and some of the sequences with water lets to experiment with the combat system a lot more. Basically, u should buy this game but the story might be a bit of a dissapointment.

Lets say you do not like how the story is going you still have to at least give 5 out of 10 points for the super graphics, the super intense situations and the all and all awesome game play.
I do not understand the hate on the Story for me the story starts as a clear case of Abby being the bad Guy by killing Joel and Ellie by being to good one for avenging his cruel and gruesome Death. But when you start playing as Abby and even before you see that the World is not only Black and White and that both of them have reasonable points for their Actions leading to me being a little bit annoyed by the way Ellie acts at the end.
The only point where I can think of criticism is needed is the end. For me the perfect ending would have been with Ellie, JJ and Dina on the Farm trying to help Ellie get out of her Pt-sd. I personally think that the part in Santa Barbara is a little bit stretched and long but still comes up with a very good Cut scene leading to see Ellie trying to forgive Abby just like the way She tried to forgive Joel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I believe that in most offline games the story is more important than anything else. In The Last of Us: Part II the graphics were amazing, game-play was slightly better than the first game, but the story... It was just so disappointing, The last of us is Joel and Ellie, this isn't the last of us anymore. Ellie lost everyone around her and I had to wait 3 years to see that happen. Never in my life have I called a game "disappointing" but this fits the tittle, I seriously wish I never played this game Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Просто перед выходом the Last of of ll, ND надо было выпустить отдельную игру про Эбби. Naughty Dog Plz translate my opininion and MAKE A NOTE IT!!! Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
