This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wouldn't say this game is better than the last but it has a few messages that I have not seen people understand. Primarily the humanization of the enemy which is non-existent in many games. It showed how similar Ellie and Abby were to each other with both having their dads killed, both having friends killed, both seeking revenge, etc. At first we saw Abby as evil but we got to see her story and how she wasn't the monster we all thought she was. Lastly the choice of life or death was throughout this for example when Ellie decided to leave to kill Abby she chose death and was rewarded with the destruction of her family and life when she could've chosen to take care of her family and live a beautiful life. The storytelling should've been better but the messages behind it was what made this game worth something. Expand

After finishing the last of us part 2 I can say that I throughly enjoyed the experience. The game was sad and bitter showing how the vengeance can destroy a person if they allow it to consume them. However, one of my main Problems with the game is I felt like they dragged on the Abby for too long.

the game isn't as good as the first one but is not a bad game
Some people say Joel death isn't make senses he is out of character, like what do you expect on that situation when infecteds chasing them in the storm Joel says ok you are safe and we are going back in a Storm and die, he didn't have a choice
Some other people say the game force you to like abby, no the game dont Force you to like her,the hole point to play with her is that you understand the cycle and redemption
Abby lost all of her friends because of revenge (cycle)
Abby saves Lev and yara because she Regret for what she did(redemption)
Ellie killed all of abby friends and in the process she lost her self her friends and family and memorys of joel and in the last moment of killing abby she understands that killing abby wont make her pain go a way its only makes it worst so she break the cycle of revenge and then you get a idea of Ellie redemption from abby redemption arc

We all get expectations with everything that gets a big name on the gaming industry or even in series but this story just reminded me how I got a lot of theories before the game of Thrones red wedding episode and it all fall apart when I watched it, it's just sadness everytime the game reminded me of Joel after he died and I really hopped that even if his death was inevitable it would have been better if they developed the connection between Joel and Ellie, if that was the case, this game was a 10/10. Overall Naughty Dog managed to create a "fun" game again. Story was good, but because of the magnificent Storytelling it became great. Because of the Pacing and the repetitive Gameplay I decided to give it an 8.

It’s not a masterpiece like the first game, but it’s not trash. People focus all the hate on “forced inclusion” and ignore the rest of aspects that make a game. If you want to know if it’s a good or bad game, play it, don’t base your opinion on someone else’s comment.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played this game with an open mind. I didn’t go in thinking there was “An AgEnDa” being forced down my throat. I gave Abby a Chance and when I finished the game, I was 100% okay, even satisfied. People honestly giving this game a 0 are just way too hurt and upset that Joel died early, how he died, and you play as his killer (I’ll get to that). It makes sense he died (maybe not early, but honestly the players would be enraged like to hunt Joel’s killer if it were any other character, so I understand why they did it). They are rioting “it’s horrible writing! It goes against his character.”.... the story takes place 4 years after the first event. In those 4 years, Joel’s lived in a protected, gated community were he doesn’t have to worry about trust and survival because he’s always surrounded by people who care about him. For 4 years, he didn’t have to struggle. So “He WoUlDnT jUsT tRuSt StRaNgErs” isn’t forgetting he’s been meeting and trusting people within the community for years. So it’s not so much a slap in the face to Joel’s development, but a lack of judgement as human because he forgot what it’s like to be in the world and not sheltered. The first game establishes this is a horrible, dangerous world, and you probably won’t survive long. Unfortunately, that went for Joel. Yes. I love him, and I was devastated, but people for get one glaring fact.

Joel doomed humanity. Joel killed all the Fireflies to save Ellie. Joel killed Abby’s father (don’t pretend like if someone murdered your father, you wouldn’t want revenge). You see, Joel is the hero to us, in his story and our story. But he is the villain in Abby’s. We’re just so attached to Joel, we don’t realize that. I know, it took me some time to see it that way. But when you play as Abby, if at least try to remove all hatred, the scene that won be over was when Abby was on her knees crying over her dads body. Me personally, I didn’t hate her after that. I understood why. Now, I still wanted her to die because Joel’s my boy, but after that I was able to really appreciate the flashbacks and character building/establishment. Which made me very conflicted because I’m supposed to hate her, but Abby’s not a bad person, she’s just good person who did something horrible, much like Joel, and much like Ellie when she killed Mel. As I’m playing Abby, moments like when I realized I killed the dog as Ellie, or when Manny dies, or Yara, or when you walk in to see your friends dead. It was deep, and conflicting because I allowed myself to give these characters a chance, and I so doing so got somewhat attached knowing full well what was going to happen. That when I returned to the climax... I felt uneasy because both characters are completely justified in why they doing it. The games true entire faults aren’t with the story or the characters Instead, it’s the repetitive gameplay. you’re doing the same, stealth killing, tiptoeing for 25 hours. It’s the 25 hour, single player LINEAR story. It’s not open world where you can spend time exploring, doing side quest and discovering new locations. The fact that you’re repeating the same gameplay for that long makes it very glaring The Last of Us was long too, but it knew where to end. The last one is the game makes you do all that hunting and build up, killing and searching for Abby that as soon as you confront her, it cuts off and you pretty much restart the game as Abby. It’s two last of us style games in one. Two separate narratives. You get to the climax, and then it starts you from the beginning. There were times I was rushing Abby’s story just to get back to see what happens because I wanted to see Ellie’s story finish. Last of Us 2 is Ellie AND Abby’s story, when it should have just been Ellie’s. Abby is a good character that has a story worth telling, but it shouldn’t have been in this game. They should have made a prequel to the Last of Us 2 - let’s call it The Last of Us: The Hunt, where they establish Abby as a character, her back story and motives to kill Joel and the story revolves around making to Jackson, so when we get to the sequel we’ve had time with her as a character to understand why she does what she does. And her story in this game - keep it the same, just DLC or something. Don’t clog up Ellie’s story

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After finishing this game this is actually not that bad as these comments.
Great enemy AI, great difficulty setting, great environment design, the story is actually ok. There are a lot of details in the game that makes the whole story logical.
However, I believe the order of the whole story, the arrangement is really bad. They should put all Abby story in front of Ellie's in stead of after that, to help player resonating with this character at first, so that players won't be left with pure wrath since the beginning and can't really put themselves in the 10 hour Abby gameplay.
Besides, the first Ellie part is pretty dull and boring when talking about the story. Dina and Ellie don't talk a lot and their conversation is so dumb, while their love relationship is superficial. And pregnancy -- we should admit it, it sucks. I really understand that they want to use this part to show the weight of lives but they do it too sedulously. DIna has way too much settings that are unnecessary for the theme of this game or for caracter development.
THe interesting part is, I think they did Abby episode pretty well--it reminds me of part1 and I think they do it intentionally. "The girl who killed Joel becomes another Joel at last", they just failed to convey their message correctly to the player but the arrangement of this game leaves players with wrath, nihility and suffering in the most part. They tried too hard to make the game an art this time,

All gameplay has been improved and there are (in my opinion) better puzzles and much less of them, there is more focus put on exploration this time around, a change I am really happy with. The game constantly makes you feel lost when your actually always going the right way in some sense. If you loved the gameplay from the last of us then you will love the game play in part 2.
I won't mention the story as very much to stay away from spoilers but I was slightly disappointed because I expected more, but that does not mean by any stretch of the imagination that this game has a bad story. I still found myself very immersed and liking a lot of the new characters (not as much as the old ones but good characters none the less). There are some cringe moments I can't help but mention but the are few and far between.
Overall I really love this game and think everyone should play it, ignore all the bs reviews from all the sad c**ts that think this is a bad game because it didn't go the way that they wanted, 90% of them probably didn't even finish it so they have no right to put reviews up.

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When everyone looked forward to this second installment, the press and critics expected one more game from the pile, while the fandom expected the best game ever. The consequence of this is that the expectations of these make them rise to settle for a perfect video game, which is why it is impossible to achieve, and at the time of arrival of the product, the same fandom due to high expectations that exceed, the product becomes the most hated. and throw trash without justification by putting it under bad video games as if it were the worst in history. When I play the last of us part 2 I see its visual and playable appeal being one of the best seen on a ps4 with a console whose life cycle is about to end and it is something extremely recognizable being a game with multiple options and fun, the story It is good but not as good as its predecessor and the fact that it is so does not mean that we will throw garbage at it. To be frank, the last of us part 2 is the best that has been seen in recent years whose history (not being the best) shows us how human he really is and how hatred and revenge can consume us faster than as an infected becomes a chubby and the real threat is not infected, but ourselves. The story is enjoyable but with dips and ups but frantic but with a slight abuse in cinematics, what I say is how it should be recognized or recorded but unfortunately the game community and the hype do not allow it to be, if you liked the story not Praise him as the best and if you don't like him, don't **** him until he is killed, but anyway, if there is one thing that leaves us as a moral, it is that the last of us part 2 is just one of many games ruined by the hype and the gaming community whose majority of these have not even played it and they spend watching the live shows and this does not make tlou fans look bad, but the entire gaming community as one of the most toxic communities. My final score for the last of us part 2 is 8/10: attractive visual and playable but with a good story but not as much as its predecessor. Postata: for those who hate the game because of Joel's death, you have to be honest: it had to happen if or if, dear to the character, his death had to happen after what he did in the one Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I both love and hate this game. The gameplay gave me everything I’ve ever wanted from video game combat, its **** viceral and so intense that there were sections that actually left my hands shaking with Ellie’s. The graphics, art direction, animation, and acting performances are the very best I’ve ever seen in a game. But all of these masterfully crafted elements rely on one thing to make them all work - the writing. I was initially left incredibly dissapointed by the entire experience, but upon reflection and a second playthrough, I’ve realized that there is a lot of good in this story - most of it, in fact. *Spoilers* I have a lot of crtiticisms of the decision to have us play as a new character for half of the game. To put it simply, her actions had nothing to do with my disinterest in her story, my disinterest in her story is due to how interested they made me in Ellie’s story. I think what they did with Ellie’s character and her arc was beautiful and honest, and I loved every second I spent with her. With Abby, I didn’t feel hate - I felt nothing. I felt disconnected with her character and with her companions. This meant I was disconnected with everything else too. I virtually checked out for ten hours of this game because I was desperate to get back to the character I have gotten to know and slowly understand over the last seven years through what adds up to about 30 hours of gameplay, plus a comic book. I understood Abby and her motivations, but I simply couldn’t get myself invested in her story, because the excellent writing had made me too invested in Ellie’s. Overall, this game is an outstanding achievement and I cannot express how incredible it is to see such great representation through complex, nuanced, and flawed lesbian lead character. The ten hour Abby detour just didn’t work for me, but that’s just me, and there will be many who will find Abby’s inclusion a wonderful experience. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Allow me to preface this review by saying, there's a lot to unpack here. First, let's address the principle game-play, and more superficially, the visual artistry and fidelity. The Last of Us Part II really takes the original recipe, when it comes to combat, navigation, and general ease/deftness of movement, and refines it into something far more palatable for the current generation. that said, it's no reinvention, there's nothing revolutionary in it's realization, but there are some added spices that make it all the more enjoyable. Namely, the ability to dodge, go prone, and jump; simple quality of life improvements that actually make a world of difference in keeping things immersive and grounded. combat feels visceral, and supremely brutal, in its affect. Though even with this nuanced approach, and however immersive the character models and their wonderfully realized range of realistic expressions, conversations, and movement might be, enemies you encounter are often painfully oblivious on any difficulty. This often stands in stark contrast to the gravity of the situations you, Ellie, and Abbie, find yourselves in as you lurk about, head on a swivel, desperate to remain undetected by deadly enemies, before you realize that they must all suffer from severe vision impairment, as merely squatting far enough away in broad daylight, in direct line of sight, renders you nigh invisible. This is not to say that there aren't brilliant, spontaneous and organic moments to be had with this game's combat system, there are, and i find that these things largely balance each other out, but there is a certain amount of accompanying clunk, as much present today as it was on PS3, with the franchise's previous installment. Now, how all of this is presented, the way it looks, sounds, and behaves; gorgeous, simply immaculate. This is truly one of the most beautiful and articulate renderings of a world you will see this generation, the same could be said of the accompanying ambient environmental sounds as well as score. There's no lack of small lovingly, and painstakingly placed detail to just stop and marvel at. i found myself just taking moments to casually walk about and appreciate what it was i was seeing and just how authentic it felt. Not a title to be missed in this regard.

Now, with regard to plot, theme, characters, and all that entails; I've read a lot of staunch opinions on this subject and can't say i agree with the vast majority of them. i won't presume to invalidate anyone else's opinion, but here are some thoughts, bearing in mind my opinion of this game's overarching story is, without a doubt, positive: our reintroduction to Joel and Ellie from the early hours of TLOU2 is the natural evolution of a relationship built upon Joel's decision from the previous game. A tremendously far reaching, and understandably, if not entirely justifiably, selfish decision to save someone he loved. A decision that Ellie ultimately discovered the truth of, shattering the trust between them. We see, and become aware, indirectly, of the weight placed upon Ellie in knowing that in some way the world and it's people may well have been doomed to suffer because of her. we see the resentment of being alienated in not being given a choice one way or another, perhaps she would have given her life if it meant a chance for a world that could recover. I'd like to think the old Ellie would have. this transformation into a darker shade of herself becomes apparent in the deftness and subtlety of storytelling and the supreme talent and quality of voice acting and motion capture. Like so many others in the world, Ellie became a person haunted by the irrevocable past. When, after Joel's death, she embarks on a quest for retribution, she is not herself, as so many have noted. but this is not some inexplicable change of character, rather the seething influence of grief. Ellie and Abby are foils of each other in this regard, and her role as a playable antagonist is not some device aimed at attempting to cajole pity or sympathy for the person or her actions, but to highlight what has always been evident: none of the central characters, not Joel, Ellie, Dina, Jesse, or Abby are "good" people, anymore than they are "bad" people. They have all done great and terrible things, to survive, to protect someone, to take control of their lives. The added perspective asks us to examine our all too common and selfish preconceived notions of what is right, wrong, or justified and to consider that perhaps there is no right answer. Everything that was lost by both Abby and Ellie by the end of their stories, all the pain visited upon them, was the direct product of their actions. That Ellie ultimately broke the cycle of aggression by sparing Abby does not rend meaning from experience. This was never a story of revenge, but an examination of the fragile and all too common human condition. This was not a perfect game, but it was truly meaningful and worthwhile.

Pretty much all these review bombs saying the games story is terrible are just people who are unable to accept the fact that companies sometimes need to add and change things to the sequel. Most are saying how unlikable Abby is and for me I can agree with some of that. But at this point most of these bad reviews just want something to hate. In all honesty Abby is such a pain to see in the game in the beginning. Even as the game went on and I still was playing Ellie I hated her more and more. But finally I got to play as her and it put things in perspective. It shows you the other side of things and how Ellie isn’t always in the right just because she’s the protagonist. You slowly start to bond and kinda like the people you set out and killed earlier in the story which I really liked. Don’t get me wrong this game sure isn’t perfect but most of these terrible reviews are just white knight Joel butt buddies who are just sad you can’t play as him again Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To be honest, the story is not on the same level as part 1 but it is still a good story. It is darker than the first one and that shows. The story is about revenge, where something happens which forces Ellie to seek out a group and kill them. It shows more perspectives on the same situation which ultimately gives the player some form of empathy towards both the protagonist and the antagonist. The characters in this are not as likable as the first, and some of them are unnecessary and two dimensional. But the game is focused around Ellie, and not Ellie and her friends. You don’t get any background on the other characters that is not player controlled. But even then does the game portray Ellie extremely well

I can understand that people are disappointed in the story, but even though the game don’t have the same standard as its predecessor, it is still a great game with better storytelling than most story driven games I have played I won’t say that all the negative reviews are about the lgbtq+ aspect in Ellie’s relationship, but some of them are, and to be honest it isn’t too much or too forced as some people make it out to be. It’s just there and wouldn’t change the story too much if Ellie where to be straight. There are more aspects that makes this game great; the graphics, the gameplay, and the overall environment you are in. I give this game an 8 because of the reasons I wrote in this review. I actually enjoyed it, but it doesn’t get a 10 because of the lackluster storytelling and plot holes that exist within the game

P.S. This game doesn’t deserve all the negative criticism that it got, as some people give it 0:s and 1:s because they either don’t like the overall story, or that it is not as good as the first one. This game could never reach the bar set by the first one, because of how pivotal the first one were to the gaming industry. There was no game like it, but now you have games such as Detroit become human, Jedi fallen order etc. that follows the same format as a story driven game as the las of us 1. To reach the same level in this game is impossible, so don’t judge it because of that

I am writing this review to unpack the baggage i just was saddled with. On the plus side, i wasn't spoiled on anything prior to playing. I had no idea about what i was going into, aside from hearing about the crazy reviews.

The game is beautiful. Insanely beautiful from a graphics standpoint. Set pieces and lighting are amazingly well put together. Facial Mocap is some of the best i've ever seen in a game, and maybe even hollywood. These characters look real.

The gameplay is a problem child. It has been a while since i played the original TLOU or even Uncharted, but this feels very very clunky to me. I found myself constantly ambushed, while sneaking, and even with extra weapons I could never swap weapons, aim and shoot before i had 8 runners wailing on me. this gets even worse later when enemies get more ferocious and harder to spot in tight quarters. towards the end of the game i was forced to go from Moderate difficulty to easy just to progress. Which ties into my next item.

This game is exhausting. you will be going from one tense scenario to another nonstop for a good 15-20 hours. Ammo is scarce, weapons plenty, but there never seems to be enough to handle things easily. You can't Solid Snake this game, but neither can you Nathan Drake it. Go in guns blazing, you'll be overrun in seconds. Sneak around and take people out with silenced weapons and you'll run out of mats very fast. I found myself never sure how to actually play the game the most efficiently.
The enemy variety doesn't make things any easier. very rarely will you find the easy route of slowly sneaking past a pack of clickers like in the first game. Human enemies are brutal, always managing to flank and allow their bigger tanks to engage while they snipe at you.
The ally AI however, doesn't seem to be much use. Except for a few scripted events, they just got in the way mostly. They don't alert enemies, even if they run in front of a baddie while you're trying to hide, but they also don't seem to take down very many enemies in fights.

The biggest thing. Story. I feel like a story was told. but im not sure what the moral was. was there a moral? I also feel like the pacing could have been a little better, maybe less jumping around. On the upside, there are some genuinely funny and heartwarming flashbacks here. I feel it could have used more of them as a whole.

Other thoughts. This game is brutal. extremely so. I don't remember TLOU being this gory. By about 12 hours into the game I was ready to be done. I just wanted this whole **** up story to be over and done so i could move on. The game continued another 10ish hours and almost seemed to end another 2 times before i saw the credits. By the end i was mentally exhausted. I can honestly say i will never play this again, and i won't recommend it to anyone looking for a fun time. The amount of stress it puts on you is too high, and the amount of payoff is so very very low.

I'm not going to bomb it. It is a genuinely good game despite my complaints. Just don't expect TLOU. this is another dog.

People who expected a happy ending obviously have not been paying attention. I like how the ending gives light to the games title. “The last of us”, it isn’t referring to a wide spread notion, like the infected and the non infected. It is referring to the “last of us” meaning what is left of these characters, emotionally and physically. She doesn’t kill Abby because she realizes she has nothing to gain, the pain will still be there and the memory of Joel will haunt her. Killing her would make her the same as Abby. Revenge is a fools game. And in this situation, Ellie lost. Ellie at the end is alone (which was here biggest fear according to the first game), she lost Dina, she lost her fingers, and the ability to play the guitar. What’s left of her is minimal. It is a sad ending but the ending we got. In the big picture, TLOU 1 and 2, the ending doesn’t seem so blasphemous. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is a game that has had me torn since beating the game last night. Naughty Dog has done a remarkable job with the amount of attention to detail to its world and characters. The Last of Us Part II's Story is the hardest part for me personally to review. The things that had happened in the story where essential to the development of the game and to its characters. Joel was my favourite character in The Last of Us and honestly even though he had died I felt like this was a good fresh concept and that his death was essential. Naughty dog loves to show of the reality and beauty of our world but also be realistic with the situations that ellie and abby are thrown into. The major thing that I had dislkied about this game was when Naughty dog forces you to play as Abby for basically an entire half of the game. The first half of the game i genuinely enjoyed and playing as Ellie was a fun time. However the second half of the game, you are forced to play as Abby for around 10 hours just to see how some events unfold. This honestly infuriated me because I was never thinking about Abby's character, all I cared about was Ellie and Joels story being told. I understand that Naughty Dog thpught that this was necessary but honestly I wouldve been ok with a 5 minute flashback about this girls backtory or even make it 10 minutes. Naughty dog tries to make the player be sympathetic towards Abby but I probably did not have any sympathy until she finds her friends all dead, the confrontation mission and the last fight against Abby and Eliie in Santa Barbara. Abby honesty was a terrible character to play as and it just felt like Naughty Dog was just trying to make you feel something for her over a 10 hour period. There was one question that I was constantly asking myself while I was playing as Abby "Why am I playing as her when I am supposed to kill her and hate her, isnt she the main villain?"Like I dont want to play as the character that killed my favourite character. There honestly was some terrible decisions in the game dont get me wrong. But overall you cannot deny the endless hard work that the Naughty Dog team had done with this game. To give Naughty Dog credit they tried something new that they thought would actually be realistic. For a survial zombie game I thought that it was such a fun game and the gameplay was well thought out. The mechanics were great and I was super stressed out because I was playing on Survivor. I was constantly on the run and it felt like I couldnt breathe because of the intensity. The situations that Ellie is thrown into are super intense but that is what makes The Last of Us special. Overall The Last of Us Part II has many great qualities and many negatives. I would give the Gameplay of the last of us Part II a 8 and the story a 5. All of the Joel and ellie parts of the story were well done but as you played as Abby you dont really sympathize and care about her at all. The Gameplay was amazing and nice and smooth. It constantly felt like you where in the story and that everything was connected Expand

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've never got conflicted like this before about anything in my life.

First of all like most people agrees, the gameplay, the visuals, the sound effects and the character animations are the best I've ever seen in a game. The attention to detail is top notch like it is in every ND title. Also I don't understand the people who call the AI "incompetent" as I can't even remember how many times Dina saved my skin or the Rattlers got me cornered in a very smart way. Not even talking about the brilliant redesign of the stalkers, leaving the iconic clickers in the shadow.

I have absolutely nothing but praising NaughtyDog about those aspects.

The problems start with the story, obviously.

When I put everything aside, I asked myself only one question after finishing the game. "If I played the first game with Abby and her father instead of Joel and Ellie, would I hate Ellie and Joel as much as I did Abby in this game?"

Honestly, the answer was yes. What Joel did in the ending of the first game ruined the firefly communities lives and condemned any kind of hope those characters had. Every bad decision they made for this cause was for in vein and their existence became purposeless. So I understand where she comes from and I would 100% root for Abby had I played the first game with her.

The problem is, we didn't play as her. We don't know her as much as we do Joel. Except Owen and Alice, I really didn't feel anything about the other characters around Abby. Lev and Yara were a nice touch as well but again feels a bit short compared to the side characters we had in the first game (eg. Tess/Henry).

I think this game would be an easy 10/10 if it was the 3rd title of the series, had we played with Abby on second game, had they fleshed out the new cast better, it could have been a solid trilogy.

That being said, I still enjoyed the game. Except the 3 parts/decisions, I can't stress enough how much I hate those 3, I liked the game. It was a "not fun" revenge epic and I felt somewhat satisfied with the ending. Honestly the ending was exactly how I wanted it to be but the part where Ellie let's her go felt a bit weak, it's one of the 3 issues I had with it. At least have them have a short conversation or give Ellie more flashbacks where she remembered who she was and stopped before it consumed her innocence entirely. Let us feel it a bit more instead of saying "people will get what we want to tell at this point". When I first saw Abby hanging it made me feel sick and sorry for her. In the last fight every punch I hit to her was a long hard decision for me. Every time I saw the desperation in her eyes, it was beautifully horrific. Yet again, just watching the last cutscene, I don't know why Ellie let her go. I can fill in the blanks by using my imagination and empathy, but in that scene, you just need to do a little bit more. After putting us through an almost 30 hour horror fest, you have to give us more than that. But I agree she should have let her go because murdering someone like that is not in line with her character. When the game starts she is filled with rage and even then you can see that every bad decision she makes, leaves her in pain. She is not a stone cold killer. She only takes someone's life to defend herself and her loved ones.

The other two part I'd want changed is how they killed Joel, and the ending of Tommy.

I'd like to see Joel going out with at least some dignity, maybe saying "It's okay, I love you" to Ellie as his last words would be enough. That would make it more painful but at least we would know he was okay with it because inside he knew that he deserved it. Instead he gets beaten to a pulp, even if he deserves it, after 7 years of wait, I don't know, it was the point but still a tough pill to swallow.

And about Tommy, after Ellie returns to farm the last time I'd like her to go see Tommy, Maria, Dina and JJ at Jackson. They could be sitting together on a bench and Ellie could just see all four of them together, maybe Dina would look at her and we would cut it like the first game. These 3 changes, in my opinion, would make the game much stronger.

On a final note I never felt like the game forced any SJW or LGBT agenda to me. The main characters sexuality, religion and genders were natural.

I finished the game once and I will keep playing it for the weeks to come. I wanted to give this game 10/10 but I can't do it in good conscious. However it stands as one of the best games I've ever played in my life.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Was suspicious when I read about the leaks and saw all this language of "pandering" and "Woke trash" but I think these people are talking out of their backsides and seeing subtext that doesn't exist (it really says more about you, guys...maybe have a talk to someone)

With the heritage this game had and the ND at the helm it should have been nothing short of a masterpiece - but unfortunately these few bumps knocked it off course.
With such big boots to fill Ellie just doesn't quite fit in Joel's shoes.

I felt like there was too much time where I played as Abby, that was when I started to tire of the game. But that doesn't make it bad. The ending is going to to be controversial but I think the point was to show how pointless the act of revenge is, and how it will end up hurting the people around you. As for the claim of pandering and "SJW trash." those criticisms are made from bigotry and ignorance, those elements of the story do not negate the quality of this game. Expand

I thought this was a great game! I appreciated the depth in themes and the emotional/ cinematic ride that it provided me. It being close to a movie makes me want to compare it to a slow burner. The idea is not to build up a blockbuster ending, but to explore the little of humanity that’s left in a world like the one the game presents.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall I enjoyed this game. I understand some of the issues people are having with the story, but I think the criticism has been overblown. The sequel to the first game was always most likely going to revolve around the repercussions of Joel's actions at the end of The Last of Us. Given the stretch of the first game where you get to play as Ellie, I always expected her to be the main protagonist of the second game. I felt Joel's death was sadly the best way to make sure this was Ellie's game. My biggest problem was actually the structure and pacing rather than the story itself. I wish they had jumped back and forth between Ellie and Abby's perspectives between chapters from the start rather than throwing Abby's full storyline into the middle of the game. If our introduction to the character had been her spending time with her dad and then finding him dead in the aftermath of Joel's rampage, then the player would see the her in a more sympathetic light from the beginning. Instead our first real experience with Abby is her brutally killing Joel immediately after he and Tommy save her life. This is the problem with all of the WLF characters. When Abby's storyline builds up the character arcs and relationships with Owen, Mel, Nora, and the others, the player already knows their fates. This acted as a barrier to actually becoming invested in them as characters, since I already knew they would be dead. Because there is a hard break when we transition to Abby's storyline, it completely breaks the momentum of the 10+ hours of gameplay that proceeds it. We go through the entirety of Abby's playable arc knowing where we are going to end up, so there was little incentive to get invested in the how. The player spends the whole arc wanting to rush through to see how the stand off in the theater is resolved.
The structural issues with the storytelling are even harder to get past because Abby isn't ever a distinctly relatable or likable character. We see her grappling with anger, but there's no real remorse or guilt. We never really see Abby questions what her actions say about her morality or how she can see herself as any better than Joel. Her romantic arc with Owen is more distraction than character development because we know he is going to die. Her arc with Lev is her most redeeming sequence, and it seems out of character with everything we see from her in the events leading up to it. Liking dogs and being scared of heights are fine as character notes, but they aren't nearly enough to make the player willing to forgive her murdering the protagonist of the first game. She is a pseudo protagonist lacking in emotional depth or clear motivations once Joel has been killed.
All that being said, I still enjoyed the game. The visuals are beautifully done, and the setting is as engaging and anxiety inducing as the first game. If you enjoyed the game play of the first game, then you should enjoy it in part 2 because it hasn't changed much. There are minor wrinkles, such as the search dogs, stalkers, and the ability to craft silencers, that make the encounters feel a bit more varied and immersive than the first game. Overall the gameplay experience is still quite similar to the first game, maybe to a fault. Given how much time has passed since the first installment, I was a bit disappointed there wasn't a more noticeable difference. There is one section early in the game that is semi-open world, where Ellie is able to explore a section of Seattle building by building more or less at the player's leisure. That may have been my favorite stretch of the game, and I wish more of the gameplay had been structured that way.
I found the dynamic between Joel and Ellie to be the most memorable element of the first game, as did most players. I thought the flashback sequences featuring the two characters in Part 2 lived up to the original game and were some of the best parts of this game. With their inclusion, I actually came away pretty satisfied with Joel's role and presence in the game. I'm not really sure what people were expecting.
Overall The Last of Us Part 2 had too many flaws to live up to its predecessor, but I still really enjoyed it. Revisiting the characters of Joel and Ellie was still one of my most enjoyed gaming experiences of the year, and I would recommend The Last of US Part 2 to anyone who enjoyed the first game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sometimes it's pretty difficult to find a satisfactory conclusion, if the ending of a game is that phenomenal. You kind of forget all the weaknesses that happened before. In the middle part it gets a bit tiring. Scenarios, where you have to kill everybody and move forward (or just move forward (to the next tall building)) repeat themselves rather often. In addition to that, there is the part where we have to play as Abby, which gets really fatiguing after a while. In contrast to other reviews I don't think that this is because we particularly hate her so much, but because it's a flashback. Most of the time there was no real suspense because we always knew what it would lead to. Sadly this part filled a lot of the game, so it was quite boring to play for a long time. (On the other hand, I can't think of a way how they could have done this better without compromising the story.)
I'm leaving all the good things out of this review, because it was just EVERYTHING else :)

This game will definitely not be everyone's cup of tea, story wise and gameplay wise, but I think that everyone can find something to genuinely enjoy while playing through this game. I believe that many of the negative reviews stem from the progressive motives of the game and the death of Joel early on in the game. Noa on to my my opinion. The gameplay is better than it was in The Last Of Us Part 1. The story has some problems for sure, but nothing overly egregious. The death of Joel could have played out better. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is beautiful in every aspect... except the story. You get such good scenery that is breathtaking. You get designs that are out of this world. This game looks amazing. Then, the story takes a lot of things from the first game and just disregards it. Joel's character development from the first game gets taken and thrown into the garbage. He make decisions he would have NEVER made in the first game. Its a revenge story that ends in not allowing you to get revenge? The characters feel poorly written compared to the first. If this wasn't a "The Last Of Us" game, maybe it wouldn't have been taken so negatively. The fact is that it IS a 'The Last Of Us" game where a foundation has already been built and the writers smacked their whole audience in the face with this new installment. Take this games graphics and re-write this story because this is something that shouldn't be cannon to the original. Actually, just delete this game and never make a new "The Last Of Us".
