This game is not bad actually part 2 is good. if you play until end you gonna like it. However story little problem for me on the other hand first and second chapter are boring but then going to good. Enemy.place, shooting are amazing. When you reach final you will see very epic scenes and that’s enogh for me. Good and diffrent you should play when you catch discount.

and while yes the story is lesser then it's predecessor, there still intense, sad, funny and sweet moments all throughout that make the game a worthwhile experience overall.

The graphics and scenery are beautiful, a lot has obviously went into that.

The game has similar gameplay to the first TLOU, which imo is a bit clunky, hard to get acurate targetted shots in.

The storyline..well that is different, it's very slow and unnessessary at times. And why oh why did they have to put a ball and chain around your charactwr

JUST to be clear, the people who worked on the game did great except the direction or stoyboard and pacing of this, abbys story entirely imo could of been left out. it just didnt feel right to have her in it. NOT to say its the VA and the production team fault. it was the directions overall. the game was great to play. and joel isnt a dummy even though i feel joel would have a lot of enemies. but that part with joel wasnt the way to go tbh. the game is beautiful, direction/story needed work. it was in production too long for it to be so flawed Expand

From an objective point of view the game is a smooth 10/10 from the gameplay, the graphics, the sound as well as the characters. There is little room for other opinions, I think.

The story is...something else. I didn't like the story here and there unconditionally, also the ending left me rather empty. Still, it has to be said that I really enjoy the game and I think that's what matters. If you didn't like the story here and there and therefore you think the game deserves 0 points, that's something you have to decide for yourself.

In retrospect of the story I'm not 100% happy with the direction you took especially with the killing of joel but after going through my paces with the game I have come round to the idea and can see the reason why you took the direction that you did and I'm glad that I stuck with it too the end this is coming from someone who fell in love with joel from day 1 and a person who spent 40 different play throughs just spending time with my favourite ever characters to come out of a video game.

With this all said I hope that Naughty Dog doesn't take the hate to heart and listens to the points given by them and there more positive fans feedback and moves on to still make great games for us to enjoy I'm personally super happy with The Last OF US 2 and can't wait to see where Naughty Dog goes in the future.

    Much love a fan.

The general gameplay is better, combat is more fluid, AI is a bit better, though still easily exploitable especially with lying in the grass. I hated the dogs, but that is more because I do not enjoy graphically killing dogs in video games.

I also enjoyed the story, I liked the way they told it, and I understand why it upset many people. Without spoiling anything it is a rather generic revenge story, which does not have many surprises but has some holes. I admire Naughty Dog how they are able to convey emotion with their games, and I think they were guessing that this story and the way they told it would lead to something like this.

I think this game became a victim of the hype train, many were expecting it would both cure COVID and eliminate world hunger once it comes out, but it did not. It was just a good game. If you for some reason get to read this I would say wait for a sale and play the game yourself.

I know Joel's death wasn't good intro for game .
    But we need it.
Because he was to old . Before the virus he was around 31-32 after Sarah's death scene. The game said 20 years later. And part 2 is 4 years after part 1. Gamplay was amazing you can't get tired of it. It's always show new things.
But some parts of game was to long for example. Abbys part was little to long

You know that already, monsters feel like dummies on loop patrol every 15 seconds, every area look way suspicious and too much designed to feel real. Its just the characters, the story, the length of their journey that is worth playing through and this is an awesome ps4 exclusive. Im not looking forward for a last of us part 3 though... The story and character development for me was definitely not hard to follow. It's a revenge story and the reasons are very clear.
if people cannot make sense why.. Well happy you, you lived a nice life until now.

Why do I give 8 points and no 10?

Well the game play is very repetitive and I found it at some parts a bit too obvious what happened. Graphics also were nice but on PS4 pro I had several streaming objects that were slowly loading and the film grain made me crazy at the beginning It a 89 :)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For context, I played this game around a month ago and I didn't even particularly want to play this game this year but with all the negative opinions of this game, I just had to play it.

    Story (Spoiler Free)
(I'll tell you when I'm about to talk about other aspects of the game)

The first hour or so with this game is honestly perfect and feels like it is about to set up a perfect sequel to the first game but it soon strays from this path to make a different story, a potentially good story but the writing falls a little flat and character relationships feel like they're ripped out of a soap drama which is tone-deaf to what the plot really should have set out to accomplish.

Looking at characters from the soap drama perspective it becomes clear that Neil Druckman wanted to subvert expectations in a more realistic and grounded sort of way which can make the story appear to be disingenuous to itself and what has come before often leaving behind great characters but rarely great dialogue between them and very little sense of any meaningful relationship between them.

But occasionally the game does reach the same heights of the original on a few levels, if you asked me how much of the game reached the heights of the first game I'd say round it to 1/3rd.

Is the story bad? no. but a lot of the foundations are struggling to hold it up and coming off of the back of The Last of Us 1 and Uncharted 4 it's a little disappointing that the story doesn't hold up.

    It's neither good nor bad.

Graphically the game is beautiful, there's nothing really to say here, the cinematography is incredible and has its own style.

The gameplay is top tier, a lot like the first game in that it's not deep but not overly simple, not to say it plays similar to the first but in the Survival Horror genre of gaming no other game tops this in terms of how polished the core mechanics are and I shouldn't have to explain, after all, it is a Naughty Dog Game.

    My Score: 8/10

    (Potential Spoilers)

Honestly, it's kinda stupid how people take something so ridiculous as having a favorite character and trying their best to ensure that a particular character is the holy grail of the series, I feel like I've played many games where a particular character dies in s similar fashion where people haven't taken it so personally (not to insinuate that anybody should take the death of a particular character personally at all) and I find this whole "THE GAME IS BAD CUZ X, Y, Z CHARACTER DIES" argument immature and honestly dumb, the game has flaws but that isn't one of them, it's evidence of a deeper problem that the story faces and that is kinda mid-tier character writing and conflicting tonality. If you're on the fence wait a year until this game is cheaper or don't rush to play it, play it in your own time and on your own morals.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Enjoyed the majority of this game including the visuals, sound, gameplay, characters and story. The first major plot point was a shock which I felt mixed about and perhaps even disappointed in initially. However it was effective in making the player invested in the story and caring about the following events, eventually leading to feeling accepting of this first plot point despite it not being the direction I hoped for. The first 18-20 hours of the game I really enjoyed and wanted to keep pushing forward to find out how things will play out. I particularly enjoyed some of the story telling methods during this, including flashback scenes which revealed some plot points relevant to the present day story. A few charming moments between characters which is typical of Naughty Dog games and offered some levity in an otherwise bleak and brutal in-game world.

There is a section which occurs around the 17-18 hour mark where there’s a shift in how the game plays out. Initially I really enjoyed this and it offered an another insight to the overall plot however felt this went on longer than I personally wanted. I understand the purpose of this section but it felt too dragged out for me.

I have mixed feelings about the end however I appreciate what the purpose of it is. My biggest problem with this is due to having a strong feeling of attachment to the original characters and wanting things to work out in their favour. This isn’t a sign of a bad game or story but a sign of attachment to the characters I loved from the original. I feel like if this was the first instalment I would’ve been much more inclined to feel more satisfied with the story.

I think overall it is an amazing game but it did take risks with it’s direction that go against the grain. This is always likely to cause fans of the original to either feel mixed or disappointed. If I were to change anything it would be to have more focus on the aspects I mentioned which made the first 17 or so hours so enjoyable and cut back on the section I mentioned felt too dragged out. I also want to mention I think it’s unfair to say the game is pushing a political agenda - LGBT characters feel authentic and adds to their character or story arc. I didn’t feel forced or anything other than having a variety of characters in the world. I think it’s fair to say that not everyone will be pleased with the story but I really enjoyed my experience with the game and even though some aspects weren’t fully what I wanted, I appreciate their purpose. The game is very dark and brutal in its theme which means not everyone will feel satisfied as most stories have a resolve or “happy ending”. As much as I would’ve liked it to steer in a direction that is more typical of game or film stories, I feel that it is at least true to the world of The Last of Us and is a bold move to deviate from expectations.

Despite having a variety of mixed emotions and thoughts on The Last it Us Part II, I did enjoy the game overall and will definitely play it again. I’d recommend others to give it a chance to experience it for theirselves.

Decided to try it out, even after all that backlash this game received, my review is from playing it on my PS5, also a disclaimer, I never played the first game because of economy issues of mine that I couldn't afford a PS4 console till 2018, but saw the entire gameplay/story cutscenes through YouTube and I LOVED the story.

So on the actual game now, the game when it comes to graphics, music, visuals, textures, sound, gameplay control, and with the PS5 update to up the frame to 60, this was a top tier development, as for the story the way they introduced Abby and how early Joel died in this game was a letdown for me, I don't mind the story at all, but the execution of the story is what made me not give a damn about playing as Abby, so I set it at the lowest difficulty just for her so I can speedrun her story.

But overall despite Abby's story, I enjoyed this game, but if they don't come up with new ideas in terms of gameplay because it's the same as part 1 I heard, then I might not bother with part 3, if they make one.

Its a bit too long and that's its major flaw. It looks spectacular, in my opinion the motion capture and acting are the best in the business and level design is goddamn good. The gunplay is very satisfying and feels great.
The story i don't agree with but i respect the balls to do it. I really do. I feel so bad for Joel and i cried my ass out at the last scene in the game. It hit me right in the feels and will always be in my memory as one of the saddest games i have played.
Overall, not perfect but its different and good. And to all the people giving it a 0/10 because there are gay characters or whatever, grow tf up.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Vence a Abby.

I gotta say... it's a really good game, but the 2nd half drags a lot. It picks up by the ending sections of the game but the actual ending it's what limits this game from being brilliant. You really have to process what happens at the end.

Expand

It's really good, I'm not putting any Spoilers here, because I'm not a **** but most of the haters don't get that the game isn't about revenge, it's about love, redemption, forgiveness and acceptance, the game does all it needs to, I was thinking about rating it a 9, but.when I thought about it, it's a 10.

Altogether, it’s a meticulously designed and extremely detailed world. It has fluid mechanics and animations. Beautiful environments and some of the best looking graphics of the generation. The gameplay is good. It’s just missing something. It leaves the player feeling particularly empty. By design, I’m not sure.

I loved almost every second of the game.. the way Ellie loses focus on what's important in exchange for her hateful feelings and also Abby's journey for revenge and ultimatly gaining someone to care, really care for. It kinda reminded me of Joel's journey in the first game of being a real **** to caring about someone again.. Abby goes thru the same thing actually, not as fleshed out as Joel story was but still..But the ending got botched because even tho I understand that Ellie goes out for a last chance to revenge Joel (even having settled, raising a child and having a life) she doesn’t sees it thru in the final second.. so that’s something I didn’t quite get behind. But overall a solid experience, lot’s of tearjerking moments, beautiful grafics and wonderful gameplay!!! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Every game has some minor issues, this is VERY far from the worst game I've ever played, and yes while I believed the decision to play as Abby several times was a most peculiar choice. One that at first I did not completely agree with, but after completing the game, I really do feel for and understand both Ellie and Abbie's perspectives. The gameplay and graphics really stand out 10/10 for that BUT, while some of the story choices can feel odd at times. In the end, I believe Ellie's choice isn't that she forgave Abby it was that killing her wouldn't bring Joel back. Abby having to live with herself knowing what she had done whether she felt remorse or not "probably not". To conclude while this story may not be for everyone. I personally enjoyed it, the emotions in this story really brought me back to the first game, that gut wrenching ending actually felt just right to me, THIS WAS NEVER MEANT TO HAVE A HAPPY ENDING. It's supposed to be a dark and emotional story and I feel it's almost done perfectly. Thank you. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Late to the party guys, but I am proud we got a game like TLoU2, even if its for me not the masterpiece it could have been. Part 1 was nearly perfect.

    Story

The story had really really well made parts in it but all in all it wasnt really sth. new, even tho that dont have to be the case always to be good. But the most frustrating was that it was too predictable and I just dont get why we had to reroll it again after the fight with abby against Ellie. The third time was one to much and at the end Ellie couldnt do it either (to much plot armor).

Besides that the cutscenes were so good, easily the best you could have imagine but I wanted more depth in the story to the apocalyptic world and not on the revenge part.

    Graphics

Brutally good (just look at the god damn fingers while Ellie playing gitarre, stunning). Even on my Slim it looks fantastic. The worldbuilding, cutscenes, the transmission from gameplay to video sequences are perfect. I would have love more different assets and not only parts of seattle, that for I like the epiloque, cause it gives you more imagination of the apocalyptic world, they could have went for.

Also why cant I disable this weird filter effect??

    Gameplay

Here ist the problem for me in this game. Part 1 hadnt had the best Gameplay but with the compelling story it was okay. 7 years later I dont see much innovation and new mechanics. The weapons of Ellie feels boring and most of the sections are spoilering theirself by the way the section is builded.

The AI of the companions is again stupid, but better as part 1. The Enemy AI is well made and way better (flanking a lot and trying to really kill you), in the epiloque it falls a little bit off by just sending you hordes of enemies in the way.

With the part of Abby the combat becomes way more impactful and you really going to like playing it more action oriented. Also the "zombie" parts are very well down and kind of creepy.

    Summary

All in all a very good game, which cant live up to his hype in my opinion. With 25 hours its defenitly worth playing but it couldnt reach Part 1.

Reviewed on a base PS4 and 35 hours to beat the story on moderate without skipping cut scenes, & seeing each encounter through. No leaks were sought ahead of time, though an important one got spoiled.

First the obvious, this is an absolute 'technical' masterpiece, better than anything you'll find on a base PS4 let alone a Pro, even RDR2. I was astounded by the visual detail, swearing at how nuts some things are, & this was without the HDR or higher res of a Pro. The animations, the AI, the realism, the way the enemies cry out the names of their fallen friends. If you want a technical showcase, a next gen experience this gen, this game is legit.

The level of customisation on this console game rivals even a PC game be it visual things, or accessibility things, really excellent. You can even enable a 'journalism mode', slow-mo aiming, or being invisible when crouched, etc, making it possible to be done with the game in 20 hours, probably.

With these things being said, if any game deserved a fair shot, it’s going to be this one isn’t it? All those Naughty Dog developers working overtime, the dreaded crunch culture we hear YouTube videos tell us about. Just all the crap that led up to the launch. It’s a big unfortunate chain of events for everybody, and nobody wins. That said, this review is for the game, not about Naughty Dog's reaction, leakers or people who talk about leakers, so that's all on that.

I don’t think this is quite a 10/10 game, but any criticism is aimed at things like its ‘gameplay’ choices, some of its pacing beats, and a few elements in this massive story I didn't gel with.

To be clear, I don’t have a problem with the overall story itself, but parts of it were daft. It's epic, it's crazy, it has unexpected turns, it's bound to not all jive for everybody. Some people won't like all of it, others will. Some people will like parts of it, but is the game worth experiencing to decide for yourself? Of course it is.

I could empathise with decisions made by a lot of the characters, & equally feel disappointed in them. There's no 'one' villain or hero in all of this, it's a complex story about the circle of violence and it's a broken brutal world.

What I had some issue with was some of its pacing. Not that it's a 'long' game, but we do have stretches of walking and talking, interspersed with encounters. It's a hard balance, but at times I felt I was exploring a huge beautiful world & waiting for the next big encounter or thing to happen. If you're going in for a bright father & daughter exploration story who like to go hunting or spending time watching movies, then you're really going to hate this, as it's only some of that.

A few other notes while playing:

It's a mostly linear Naughty Dog game. That means the game can move you on its path if you trigger it, & not possible to turn back to check over an area you know you didn’t explore yet. This is a little frustrating as can put reliance on chapter restart, etc

There's a theme of pregnancy in the game which I thought didn't work, but won't elaborate more because spoilers.

I didn’t buy Ellie’s connection with Dina (from the trailers) because not enough back story for me. They didn't seem to have chemistry, or was basically Dina making sex faces at Ellie a lot of the time.

I'm not a fan of having to hold the touch pad button to open the map or having to hold any button to do many basic things, opening doors, etc, but that is what it is, and it's a thing in many games. At least there wasn't as much tapping of buttons this time out.

I had to restart checkpoint a couple of times from getting stuck in a spot you can’t move from. Which goes to show, as much as you want to delay and polish a game you’ll never make it absolutely 100% full proof, which is understandable. This game is still incredibly polished.

I dislike how long it takes to patch yourself up for most of the game (bandages) although the upgrade addresses this of course.

The game is a really dark game in spots, though this can be tweaked in visual settings, but it's still pretty dark.

Having to keep finger on L1 the whole game whenever you want to run, although didn't heck if there is a toggle to run (there probably is).

It’s an interesting dynamic having to collect coins and cards collectibles amidst some atrocities occurring. I found it a little amusing after a point anyway.

The combat is excellent, I really enjoyed it, and the AI was mostly great on the balanced moderate setting. I am scared how nuts it would get on survivor difficulty, and will give it a shot at some point. There's a lot to discuss on combat, animations and AI alone, but should be experienced.

I'm glad I played the game thoroughly & think a lot of people would be into it from a technical and gameplay standpoint - 8/10.

Knowing the game will get bad reviews after a huge raid of ant-SJW YouTubers calling it a trash game due to the game having an ounce of sexual and gender ambiguous characters. I honestly didn't care because I usually focus on how well the characters are written NOT simply what they are. Although there is a massive share of reviewers who actually criticized that game and honestly respected their opinion on the game's fundamental issues both in a narrative and gameplay aspect.

Me entering the game a few months after release and not including the controversy hinder my experience. I would say this game is above average in a gameplay standard and narrative standard. This game has a better and revised combat system compared to the first, it felt like the game conveyed me to peruse a moment when I had to take out a group of enemies. I can continue going in stealthy or if I possessed an adequate number of materials I can go for a good gun fight. During my playthrough I always had the chance to go out guns and blazing, killing dogs and scouts of a place I needed to progress to. Alternatively, I chose to take the longer route because the stealth mechanics of the game were too good to pass on at a moment on fear and adrenaline due to the number of enemies.

I've said this before, in terms of the games narrative it is tolerably good, not great but it is good enough where it is above average. Playing as two leading characters is genuinely a worthy choice when it revives a game that focuses on revenge seeing both sides of the story taking place after TLOU I. Filling in on what we've lacked during these years as how our favorite father-daughter duo has been doing. However, as we go into the infamous character Abby, known for her masculine physique as well as other things I can't say because this is a non-spoiler review. However, what I can reveal about her head shaped muscles is that it really shapes her character and the theme of revenge. After a critically significant event from TLOU I, Abby sought revenge on the Joel and Ellie, joining what remains of the fireflies and constantly training and preparing until her time is to come. After Abby got revenge Ellie went on a revenge quest on her repeating the same story beats as Abby. Showing a parallel between the two and how they accept their own definition of the word "revenge". While both apparently lost during their quest for revenge we need to comprehend the difference of curving our expectations and doing good and doing it poorly. Narrowly because the story fell in somewhere you didn't expect and you didn't like is an unrelated matter compared to a lack of character and story development. Although where the game left off left me unsatisfied when it came to the result of both main characters I understood why it left off mainly because the ending definitely wants you to make you reflect on how these events occur and how the characters continue after. All analytics aside if you're not into the story the gameplay with undoubtedly carry the game for you.

I'm giving this game an 8/10

The user score system here is extremely flawed. Many give it 0/10s and 10/10s without even playing the game. The lengths at which people will go to attack/defend something is extreme.

I personally enjoyed this game a lot, but I will admit that it falls short on some of the things that the first game established. To balance this, it also introduces some nice things. I enjoyed the story, but I will admit that it isn't as good as the first. They contain drastically different tones, and introduce new characters that stray away from Joel and Ellie. If you want to dive deeper into this game's story, you first have to accept Abby as a character, and understand that it doesn't just revolve around J&E. I would actually say that both TLOU and TLOU2 are cliche in their stories, but one is heartwarming while the other is brutal. It's mostly down to personal preference, but we can't deny that there are some flaws within the writing. Many of the characters serve as an extension to the plot, when instead, it could work better the other way around. Some of them also don't get enough screentime to truly bond with them. The pacing is also a little off sometimes, with sudden cuts and changes in perspective.

But one thing I genuinely loved about this game is that it isn't scared of killing/harming people. They die quick. They die suddenly. Some are for shock factor, but they do leave you feeling a little empty. You could say that this "revenge is bad" plot is average and cliche, but many wanted also wanted a simple revenge story, which is JUST as cliche. The characters aren't all pure good and bad, instead, they fall into a gray zone. The game emphasizes this with both the protagonists and antagonists. While I don't believe that this story reaches the top like TLOU did, it still does a good job in delivering its message with a good amount of likeable characters.

The gameplay is similar to TLOU, but does some improvements. The UI in specific is still very simple while giving you more information. Players are now able to jump and go prone, adding a little bit of platforming to the experience. The UI is smarter now and is able to get good cover, rush towards you, and are able to locate you when you're discovered. They're a good challenge. Still, the gameplay loop is extremely intense, enjoyable, and plays great.

However, there are still some flaws with it. The supplements system has now turned into a branch system, and covers different aspects of gameplay. My problem with this system is that it sometimes forces you to waste supplements on power-ups that you don't want, and a couple of these upgrades feel almost useless. Still, with enough progress and spending, you can get some solid upgrades.

Weapon modification returns, and it's awesome in this game. The character does unique animations for each gun when you upgrade them. The guns in general feel very powerful, and each weapon covers a dinstinct role. They're all unique in their own ways.

Presentation, as with any ND game, is top-notch. The graphics are some, if not THE best I've seen on the PS4. Foliage is extremely dense, the lighting is strong and can emit a certain feeling perfectly, and the animations and voice acting are amazing. In fact, foliage serves two functions: It is both a presentation tool, but also a gameplay one, as it allows you to hide from enemies quickly.

This game isn't a 10/10. It also isn't a 0/10. It's extremely controversial, but it's something you should definitely give a try at one point in your life. You might come out with dread. Or, you might come out with happiness, like I did.

Then the end wasn’t what I expected, a lot of hype for the game and really, not that great.
It’s good, you could play it, but, don’t get high expectatives in the story finale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

What stopped this from being a 10/10 was some parts felt too drawn out for an already long game. I had some minor bugs with character pathing that made certain interactions frustrating. Rarely happened but still worth mentioning.

The big negative I have for this game is the story. I won't go into spoilers but, it really felt. Just off. The first game had a lot of character development and I became very attached to both Joel and Ellie as characters, wanting to see them survive. Where as here, I didn't get it. It felt VERY forced that I should feel a certain way about certain characters. While I do see what they were going for with how the game plays out. I just wish it stuck to mainly Joel and Ellies relationship and trimmed down some areas while expanding on others.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A flawed masterpiece. It’s not the story I necessarily wanted but it is the story Naughty Dog wanted to tell and I respect that. Dark, overbearing and often bleak but at the same time one of the most memorable and thought-provoking experiences I have had in a game.

Naughty Dog chose to bet everything on succeeding in making the player switch elegance from Ellie to Abby. To have the entire premise of your game rely on this happening is both brave and deliberately divisive but for me it just about worked. Being forced to play as a character you hate or having your character do things that you desperately don’t want them to do is a bold departure from what we have come to expect in many modern games. Player ‘choice’ and player ‘freedom’ have become the de facto gold standard leading developers to deliberately mislead players with choices that are in fact meaningless or to insert superficial ‘alternative’ endings where only one was ever intended. Having the confidence to stand by their narrative choices, no matter how unpopular, should be celebrated and ultimately I feel it remains faithful to the ending of the original. To play a game where you don’t get your way and your expectations are deliberately ignored makes for an often-difficult experience but one I found engaging and worthwhile.

With all that said, this is not a perfect game. The story works hard to portray Abby’s narrative arc as overtly positive and this comes across as unnecessarily heavy handed. I strongly believe it was a mistake to leave the first confrontation in the theatre as a cliff hanger while you play through Abby’s story. Wondering why Abby didn’t kill Ellie would have been the driving force for her section. Instead I wanted to rush through and find out what actually happens, making Abby’s section feel overly long when it really didn’t need to. The game should have also done more with the journeys between Jackson, Seattle and Santa Barbara. The extended road-trip feel of the original turned what was otherwise a string of inconsequential and unconnected events into a coherent narrative. The Santa Barbara section was such a welcome and refreshing change that it made me lament the lack of variety and structure earlier in the game.

It goes without saying that the animations, locations, sound design, and overall artistic presentation of the game is peerless. This is the most beautifully realised world every made in a video game and will be the high-water mark for games going forward. The game play iterates on the original rather than revolutionising it and after seven years it still felt innovative and enjoyable. Systems have been tweaked and levels of complexity have been added which all come together to create an incredibly visceral experience. That said, there were things the original did better. Game resources are too abundant and Abby’s weapon set felt limited compared to Ellie’s, taking away some of the ‘just surviving’ feel that made the original so great. I also missed the varied environmental puzzles and although locations are refreshingly open to begin with, they become progressively more linear as the game progresses.

Taking everything into account I maintain this is a flawed masterpiece. It will drive discussion for years to come and was an unforgettable and thought-provoking experience that I feel deeply conflicted over. I don’t think it was the best story that could have been told but I do respect it.

Truly, first things first, this game is completely diferent from the first one , this is one is all about revenge from The begining until end , i would really put a 10 out of 10 but i cant , cause of The end, ok we should have some empathy with abbey, trying to show in a woldcase scenario that we always have to look from about two perspectives, but Ellie should have done it!, she didnt cause she felt free, and letted it go just seing Joe smilling, she should have done it , it would be so much satisfying, cause this all The Scores here in metacritic are so low, cause she hasnt done it , just because of it . I really enjoyed the game for the fun, in depth, and engaging game-play. I was originally just playing the game for the story but after a few hours I got really bored by the preachy-ness of the story. Furthermore the story is one that I've seen so many times that I bored with seeing it. I really did enjoy the game for the thing that a game needs to be in order to be good, the game-play. Naughty Dog hasn't had a great track record with making fun game-play recently but this feels like they've been learning from the past 15 years. Although with misleading advertising, interviews and an iffy story I understand why people are rightfully upset with this game but it can't be ignored how solid and fun it is. I personally think that the talented staff a Naughty Dog were given an impossible task and made the best thing they could with that in mind. This game was always going to disappoint and the lead writer and director (Neil Druckman) shoving his sexual fantasies and political statements hurt this game in the long run. I'm actually not apposed to politics in games but when it's shoved down the gamer's throat like this game does rather than subtly like in Bioshock, Half Life, or Nintendo's games that's when I have to draw the line. Overall it's still a good game that I enjoyed so I might come back to it unlike Uncharted or God of War PS4 (I still enjoyed them I just don't feel the need to come back to anytime soon). Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would like to speak about this game with all the details (spoilers alert maybe). I am a high fan of the first game and I was waiting for it for so many years. And finally this 19th arrive! The last of us II was on my hands. So freaking awesome!!!!
First minutes you finde Joel playing the guitar with those awesome grafics. Look at the their face and the moment when you are riding the horse at open field with this sunsent...
You control Joel and also Ellie and the feeling of them both feels very different, and awesome (Ellie feels son agile and fast).
But after 2 hours one new character appears, Abbie. And after control her, the first crash at my mind appear, Abbie and Joel found in the field, he help her in order to scape from a horde of zombies and she killed him!!!! Whatttt the **** Joel is died!!!
Ellie saw this and she want to revenge him and goes through Seattle to find Abbie. I would not like to reveal all the story but after the “first final”, you play some more time and you arrives to the final battle. This battle was completely out of sense (I enjoyed it but this was my point of view). After that thinking about pros and cons:
Pros: -Awesome graphics -Nice characters -Story until the end -Controls.

Cons: -I don’t like the final, for my makes no sense

Anyway it is a good second part of the first game and if you loved the firs go ahead to this.

Alone. This game felt more like a horror game than the first one did. I felt overpowered and uncomfortable the entire time. If you liked the gameplay of the first one this is similar but expanded upon. There are beautiful moments in this game and I really enjoyed finding all the notes people left around the world. Also take you time to read through Ellie's journal periodically it really adds to the story. Overall I don't really get why people are so mad and I would recommend you play it took me about 22 hours. Final note you don't need to have played the first game it does a good job of telling you what you need to know at the beginning

Couldn't wait to hop back on and see the next encounter. Or see where the train wreck was heading.

I do wish there was room for more improvement in the game mechanics. It plays exactly like the first. You like to see innovation in sequels and most of that was in the graphics and animations. The levels are bigger and look amazing. . Enemies are dopes even on hard. It had a small open world segment which I do wish they did more of, it was a very enjoyable and memorable part of the game.

You're not going to feel like you did after the first game when it's over, but to say the game is bad or the story fails is simply not true.

Let's get it out of the way the story is not even close to the original with emotional impact and this is down to poorly written characters who make stupid decisions. But for someone who has been gaming since the 80s no games story has come close to the original for me personally so maybe my expectations were far too high in regards to how I wanted Joel's story to end. So far I've enjoyed my first 12 hours of this game alot, the world is beautiful, emersive and full of special touches if you take the time to search or even just notice them. The storytelling is compelling and keeps you invested. I've not experienced any bugs (for now) which is quite rare in today's AAA games at launch. The gun play is not fantastic but gets the job done. I would definitely recommend it to any PlayStation 4 owner who enjoyed the previous Last of Us game.

Update: I have completed the game now. Though some of the narrative/story decisions did not land for me personally after the halfway point, it was still enjoyable enough to keep me hooked until the end.

I get the protesting with the zeroes and I think it is well deserved, especially after all the fake 10s the video games journalists have given. I can understand some people giving 10, but there should have been some 8s at least. I don’t know if journalists are paid by developers or if they don’t have the balls to say that a game’s story is bad and not interesting even if it is expected to be great. But look at it through another angle its mirroring Joel and Joel mirrors Ellie through first game Ellie beginning was more trustive while Joel was less through grief while second one Joel more trustive Ellie less trustive .But I think Whats smart is in first game about dark world and a light Ellie entering shining it up while second one its Abby going in a light world and darkening it up.Also i think Abby part was a failure.Abby Motivations Weak Compared to Joel #1.Mess Up Joel makes a choice to deal with grief of losing responsibility while Abby lost the sense of comfort safety and its weaker since Joel already lost that and more Joel lost someone he was supposed to love (which he did) and protect (which he failed through trust) (And I like Joel death mirrors trust but Joel death scene felt weak since Abby didn't care even though he saved her and she never feels remorse and her friends enjoyed it and said he deserved more that gives off less sympathy and makes you root for her death and feels like torture and ruins the experience).Etc. She has bad motivations compared to Joel
Joel saved Ellie for not accepting grief and not to lose his responsibility he has had to protect while Abby was losing loved one she had nor responsibility only memories to cause grief.
This makes us still care more about Joel with also we have alot of screen time and over years learn more and love him as an icon while Abby butchers him no care even though he SAVED HER LIFE with no hesitation. And Ellie lets her live when I believe Joel wouldnt since she nearly killed her brother tortured him through pain killed him torture and hurt Ellie and killed friend(s) and more and eat some of her hand like wow really smart. Also Joel falls for obvious trap I think shouldve if they did it this way have built up.Also Abby neevr regerets like Ellie when she kills like Joel and we should like her. Also she dosent thank Ellie for saving her and sort of Sam but Ellie prob didnt thank her last time cause she was fine with killing her wife basically Abby is the wrostthing of this game and also they try so hard to make you feel bad for Abby when she dosent care who she hurts when shes mad unlike Ellie very smart but thats my main only big issue other than nitpicks and also Ellie character feels so different that takes awhile for you to grow on her. Also Abby dieing would've improved it to 8 stars for me.Also she tortures Joel who saved her and thinks he deserved more pain even her friend was like the -- got what he deserved like wow I really care for these **** there is great mirroring to the original. But Abby being Joel that boy being Ellie if it was just that 0/10 wanted to break ps4 buy it on disc so you can sell or trade think so can get some money since it isn't worth digital at all. Recommend this game for Last Of Us fans Who KNOWS JOEL DIES ONLY IF great game well 60% basically everything without Abby...Dont attack voice actor Abby though thats messed up even actors like voice of Joel and Ellie have even talked about how Abby voice threats should stop shes innocent.Highly recommend visuals and character Ellie and killing is SOO GOOD 10/10 killing though and visuals and some other standouts like Ellie and Dina and when Joel is voice acting its SOO good voice acting perfect highly recommend that part except for weak lines by Abby that feel bad which also why give her and her friend Ally think called once (Sam) 0/10 in everything since they made me depressed mad never fun or clever or good at least no fun not even in kills.

agora podemos encontrar cofres e devemos explorar o cenário pra descobrir a senha, bem no estilo silent hill.

Those who finished the game understand that its inpossible to finish the game in one day, so the hate is based on Joel's death. Okay, its your right, but its not worth to punish the good game only because it did not meet your expectations.

This guy could spot an ambush from a distance in the first game. Now, suddenly Joel and Tommy are stupid, even given away their details and where they live.
Despite that, I think the game is still worth playing. The gameplay is one of the best from last gen. The animations are awesome as always, true Naughty Dog standard game.
Naughty Dog will remain to be my favorite developer, but I cannot hide my disappointment in the story.

    TLDR:
Mechanically, it is a blast to play through and if you enjoyed how the first one played, you will enjoy this one. It adds some new tricks to the formula but nothing groundbreaking. Visually, it's a stunning experience that we expect from ND (great for photo mode). Narratively, it is quite the ride, though certainly not without it's issues as it can fall flat at times. Overall, it is a pretty good follow-up and definitely worth playing.

    Game play:
The additional space it gives you to roam around and explore at times is both a boon and a detriment to itself. With (some of) the spaces as large as they are, it tends to mess with the pacing of the narrative (a bit more on this later) and can start to feel tiresome if you are the kind that likes to explore every nook and cranny in these kinds of games. Each space though, does feel unique and interesting enough to warrant exploration.

The combat, again, is more of the same but the kills feel more brutal albeit a bit comical at times (death screams/dialogue). There are a few new weapons to play with later in the game that are fun alternatives to the usual but don't necessarily break the mold. There are also some new enemies. The new infected are a fine addition while the new human enemies do not necessarily bring much to the table in terms of surprises but do require paying attention. Neither one feels so different though, that you won't be able to take them on.

The AI is more competent, generally speaking, this time around. Though there are some instances of the usual issues that were present in the previous title. To iterate, companions you have during certain parts are more useful than before. However, enemies seem to be oblivious to their presence at times as they stand or run out in the open which can break the immersion. On the flip side of that coin, enemies can at times feel a little too observant making stealth difficult (though this can be adjusted in options). If you are not playing through guns-blazing (or adjusting difficulty), you will likely find yourself waiting a lot for an opportunity to move that doesn't ever seem to present itself without resorting to just going full-on Rambo. Enemies in this installment also have better aim and at times can start to feel like you are going up against battalions of world-class marksmen with straight-from-the-factory weapons and not post-civilization groups of regular joes with scavenged/well-used ones.

Accessibility options for those that need or want them are well done. There is also the inclusion of difficulty sliders for various aspects of game play (resources, player damage, enemy damage, and more) which allows you to tailor the game to how you want to play.

    Graphics:
Visually, the game is beautifully crafted. All the minor details in textures, lighting, and level/character design make it feel alive and makes the photo mode a pleasant tool to play with. The animations are crisp and realistic. The facial animations specifically are extraordinary. It's what we've come to expect from a ND title for better or worse. Not much more to say here.

    Story:
Again, avoiding spoilers so I won't be going into specifics. The overall narrative is where this game has issues. It is fine; its not great nor terrible though it does have moments of both. The pacing feels off and I wonder, going back to the world space, if it would have been better for it to have been more linear. There are areas in the game that (are supposed to) have a sense of urgency but having so much space to explore, you may find yourself getting easily sidetracked and it just doesn't end up feeling as urgent as it should. The introduction of some of the factions don't really add anything to the narrative and seem to serve only as a means for the player to have something to overcome until the next main story beat is reached. It would have been better for them to have been developed further.

The narrative, generally feels a bit disjointed and all over the place due to over-reliance of flashbacks and the order of events end up messing with pacing and impact of the story overall. Writer's self-described intentions (commentary on violence) end up falling somewhat flat due to the structuring of the story and ironically, the game play itself. It perhaps would have been better served having more tension building and less combat. To elaborate, how is killing supposed to feel impactful when you do so much of it through out the game? It plays out like a Rambo film with regards to violence.

However, with all of that being said, emotional beats were not completely lost (on me). The lighthearted moments were great and felt good to experience. They felt genuine, like the characters were real and were some of the best moments in the game for me. In the more disheartening or painful moments, I could easily empathize with them. In those moments, it felt visceral.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The TLOU2 was one of my most anticipated sequels and frankly I don’t know how I feel even after 2 days of completing it, and I think that speaks volumes for the writing.

Firstly, the gameplay/animations are so beautifully executed that it kept levels feel new and interesting and makes me want to go back and play more to try different ways to complete certain stages.
The acting from everyone still blows me away some of the best acting I have seen in sometime.

My favorite part of the game was the characters, I loved Ellie and Dina’s relationship and think it was very important to have that relationship for Ellie’s development, however so many characters died that when Yara was killed I felt nothing because it almost felt like a norm and didn’t carry the weight that maybe naughty dog wanted it to come across.
The story for me was perfect up until the second half where you play as Abby where I felt like, do I really need to do this, thankfully Abby had some interesting weapons and different combat to Ellie which kept me busy, but still didn’t like it her story arc.

One thing that threw me and I’m sure many people off guard was the sex scene between Abby and Owen, I didn’t have a problem with the scene however it added nothing to the story even if the scene was not graphic, I would feel the same way. For example, the “sex scene” between Ellie and Dina was there to establish their relationship but also made me feel like why make one scene graphic and another scene not?

Another problem that I had with characters is that Tommy went from lock Ellie up don’t let her leave and we need to leave Abby and get back to Jackson to then making Ellie feel guilty for not completing the job. He could obviously see that Ellie was happy and safe with Dina but he still felt like he needed to make her feel the way he did. It felt like inconsistent character writing
The end of the game seeing, Abby in that state made me feel bad? In a sense which I did not expect to happen and the boss fight between these two broken characters made me feel so uncomfortable while playing but Ellie’s decision in letting Abby live made sense to her character. But also, the flashback where Ellie said she was willing to forgive Joel, made me feel like maybe Ellie feels the same way about Abby.

Overall, the game had some strong features however the story for me lacked near the end and left me unsatisfied but I think that’s how they were trying to make me feel and no video game has made me feel that way before.

The story is something different than the first game. The game is incredible, the characters are just amazing. The gameplay is better than the first game. I see why people are mad and that is understandable. The game is hard to consume it's just depressing ,but that is what makes it really good.

For me personally the story is good, it could’ve been better but it’s still quite good. I think a lot of people started the game with a bad mindset which led to disappointment. 9/10 Graphics, animations 7/10 gameplay, (it got repetitive after a while)

If you played the first game and you like the gameplay then you are gonna love part 2. It's much better in every way. It got alot of good game scenes and intense moments. I would give the gameplay a 9/10 The down side is the story that is really bad if you compare to the first game. But the thing is that it has alot of good moments too. Overall it is worth the playtrough but don't expect a good story telling as Uncharted, God of war and the first The last of Us.

The story and characters are not the best, but not as bad as others quite make it out to be. They are just butthurt about Joel dying and having to play as another person than Ellie (maybe 2/5 of the game).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game play is very tense and always keep you on edge. Music, acting and graphic are probably the best I have seen on any ps4 games so far. This game would have earn 10/10, but the story has some issues. The story is not trash like others say, but the story structure is too complex for some players to get it. At some scenes, you can see they tried too hard to stretch the message. I would have love it if they rearrange the orders of some scenes. I would have love it if we get to play Joe for an hour or two building up to his death, then, let us play as Ellie and Joe; it would make Abby introduction strong. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is a good game but manynissues with its story and characters. While killing Joel isnt a bad idea, the way it was executed was poor and theres so many character inconsistences, early in the game Ellie doesnt accept Seths apology and gift for his offensive comments "loud mouthed dyke". Which is justifiable but Ellie cant bring herself to kill Joel's killer snd lets her live. Whats worse is that Abby technically gets her revenge but not Ellie. It tried way hard to be subverted but it failed miserably. The only reasons why im giving it an 8 is because of the fantastic gameplay, graphics, voice acting and music Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
