I also miss the scary feeling I experience from the first games generator section which I think this game lacks a little bit. The exploration section of the game is also great like a small open world area where you get to explore different building / houses. Expand

Until about 18 hours in I was completely hooked with the immersive story. I loved the character development and my emotional connection with them as the story progressed made me care about what was going on and who was doing what. I am mature enough to accept the openly gay relationship between main characters in the story for what it is and I have to say that the sensitivity in which the script is handled is excellent.
Combat is both brilliant and disastrous. When it works, the gun battles are awesome with limited ammo forcing you to adapt a defensive strategy while picking off foes one at a time. The melee attacks become epic as you unlock the ability to upgrade weapons rendering the on-screen violence quite impactful emotionally. It is an 18 rated game, so if you don’t like violence, don’t buy it.
Sadly as the game progressed into the second half of the story, I quickly lost patience and interest in the story line. I was forced into playing characters that I, initially, cared very little about and I was effectively forced into relearning whole sets of skills that I had already spent hours honing in the first half of the game, only to have to do it all again albeit with slight tweaks to the weapons and skill-trees. Being forced to walk around in now familiar venues having conversations and looking at utter tat in the environment for the sake of developing the second leg of the story really frustrated me. Huge Yawn.
The other irritation throughout the game is one which many titles with NPCs suffer from, the NPCs constantly get in your way. The frequency in which NPCs would push in front of me when trying to position myself at the edge of a wall to ambush an enemy was a joke. I tried bludgeoning the NPCs from time to time but to no effect. It’s a lesson for all developers. If you must place NPCs in a game, for goodness sake keep them out the way or allow the player to beat them senseless for being stupid morons.
In the final few hours the story jumps repeatedly from one flashback to another and for me the game became the definition of tedium. At this stage of the game the already irksome combat controls became a real hassle, probably because I had stopped caring and I just wanted it to end. When pushed into tight spaces with large numbers of foes, the combat mechanics seriously lets the game down. I couldn’t find any method of locking on to a target during melee and when you dodge a foe, you have to manually swing the camera around to find them again which sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t and often I’d lose the upper hand simply because the mechanics were too slow and too cumbersome to actually achieve what I wanted to achieve. Slow and poorly designed weapon selection mechanics added further to the problem and it became unnecessarily frustrating in an otherwise extremely well polished title.
In the final third of the game, Naughty Dog's vision started to win me over. I didn't agree with all their story-board choices but the immersive play forced me to start caring about other main characters as much as Ellie and some genuine morally-charged themes left me thinking about the game long after the credits stopped rolling.

I think the graphics audio and gameplay where very good gameplay was similar to the first as i expected. I gave this game an 8 as it did what a good game was suppose to it gave me a decent story and fun gameplay that kept me entertained its not perfect or a 0 its just a average game for a gamer to enjoy. i will say that the first game is better and i hope if there is a next week that it can return to its roots and continue a great series Expand

And playing as the new character was fun too, though their fighting style was more Joel like. That made the tactics of tackling similar situations with Ellie and the new character different enough to give the game a dose of freshness. And loved the rope mechanics! Wish there were more uses for it and more puzzles with it even at the risk of making the situation more contrived. Their were times when the suspension of disbelief was questioned a bit, though that's probably a complaint only because the game has set such high standards of realism for itself. Overall a great experience. Recommended for all except for those who dislike violent imagery in games Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have one big complaint about the game - Joel's death. A hardened smuggler could not end his life so foolishly. In addition, I did not like that the men in the game are shown too soft, and against their background, a pregnant female soldier looks absurd at all (by the way, making a pregnant woman a fighter is generally nonsense). By the way, Abby's lack of a knife and a loyal dog was very upsetting (it would have brought something fresh to the game-play).P.S.: the Sex scene with Abby is not as disgusting as I assumed based on the opinions of others (Yes, I fell for this spoiler, which has already become a meme). However, the gameplay is truly incredible, the world is gorgeous and feels real, and whilst I don't agree with every decision Naughty Dog have made, this game does make you think and feel things on a philosophical and emotional level (even though yes, oftentimes it is beating you over the head with a very plain and obvious message that few would truly disagree with), and that is a wonderful thing for gaming to do. It's also very interesting to be forced to play as such an unlikeable character for so long that unless you're too stubborn to change, you can at the very least start to understand over the games run time. I've been debating whether this is a 7 or 8 out of 10 since I finished it, but honestly the unnecessary amount of hate has forced me to push my score up as it truly does not deserve the bombing it's received, and whilst I understand and actually agree with some of the criticisms, this is still an important game to have been made and I'm thoroughly glad I have experienced it despite its flaws. Overall this is another fantastic game by naughty dog. I do agree that the second part is not nearly as good as the first, and some of the story elements feel very forced to fit a very obvious narrative.

The writing isn't anywhere as good as the first game, and today's political environment is interjected into the game without much thought on how it could impact the tone of the game.

Unfortunately, I think we will be seeing more of this in the next generation of gaming. No one wants the author's politics obviously interjected into a game.

However, all that's being said... I still enjoyed the game start to finish. It didn't have the same overall impact on me as the first, but that was always going to a hard feat to accomplish.

Pros: Amazing graphics (seriously, I can't think of many games that look better); solid--but not perfect--narrative. Mostly, the story is good, though there are a few drawn out bits that I didn't think were great. The overall atmosphere that Naughty Dog is able to create with the experience is fantastic, though.

Cons: The game has moments that feel a little too repetitive for my taste (i.e., clear area, collect things, wash/rinse/repeat); while the narrative works, at times it is a little too heavy-handed and maybe a tad cliche; for me, the gameplay itself is fine, but nothing special (I've seen some people say it's amazing and some say they hate it--to me, it gets the job done, but that's about it).

The story is phenomenal, the atmosphere is incredible and the characters are both sympathetic and well written. This isn't a story of Heroes and villains, but one of tragedy, grief and the struggles along the way.

Its just a shame this game doesn't get the rating it deserves due to review bombing morons giving it 0/10... you simply can't take those kinds of reviews into account, theres vapourware with higher reviews than that!

I'd give this a 10/10, but some points have to be deducted for doing dirty like that, plus reports of crunch and not launching with multiplayer. Otherwise excellent work naughty dog!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. People can hate this game because it is raw, devestating and sometimes simply tough to play. For anyone rating the game so lowely because of this TLOU2 is simply lost on you. This game is simply put a revenge driven and gut wrenching story. It is ugly it is raw and emotionally charged and unfortunately for some of the fairies writing bad reviews it doesnt give everyone a happy ending. The reality of the last of us 2 is that it is reflective of the world within the game, no one is safe and no one is guaranteed their chance at development or their chance at redemption. The last of us part 2 perfectly captures what a post apocalyptic world is . This world is harsh and unforgiving and although Joel perhaps didnt get the end he deserved or the end the fans would have wanted for him it is part and parcel of the world he is in and the story of revenge and anger brought about by his death is nothing short of amazing. The reality is the game perfectly captures the human condition and the desperation for revenge. All the people giving bad reviews because they are too trigger happy to sit back and think about the brilliance of it all is sadly missing the whole point of the game. It is not without its flaes. I understand perhaps the timing of certain things could have been better but the essence of the story is the lesson that revenge is never perfect and in alot of cases you lose more than you gain by seeking it. It is not a 10/10 game but it is an 8 for me. A brilliant sequel that if u dare to think about it is brilliant in its own way Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU2 is a near masterpiece but not perfect - technical aspects are a step up from the original, and the plot/story take some gutsy moves, which may or may not pay off (most did but some did not for me, which I explain below). This game requires a deeper study into its story and themes; "revenge bad" only scratches the surfaces of what the game is about.

Gameplay is largely the same as TLOU1 with some noticeable improvements; level design and environmental puzzles are far superior than TLOU1 (no more tedious ladder/pallet finding, or obvious waist-high crates for cover). Human AI is pretty good at the harder difficulty as they will flank you, call for assistance, and use stealth themselves. Infected are largely the same except that bloaters and stalkers are more aggressive (shamblers feel pretty much like bloaters from the first game). The semi-open world is clearly a 2nd iteration of Uncharted: Lost Legacy (the previous ND game to feature a semi-open world); it was definitely fun exploring it, but probably not worth doing it a 2nd time.

Overall I still think TLOU2 is worth a playthrough so that you can form your own opinions. It is quite difficult to critique the game having watched someone else playing it, or reading a plot summary etc. since there are so many details which are easy to miss, including many instances of foreshadowing. Out of 10, I'd probably rate it 7 or 8, definitely not a 0 or 10.

    ==SPOILERS BELOW==

First, it is worth briefly discussing Joel's death. Obviously we hated watching it, but it felt justified: Joel did a lot of shady things and it would eventually come back to bite him. Basically, this is TLOU, not Uncharted. Why would Joel give his name to a bunch of armed strangers? Well, blame Tommy, who revealed both their names to Abby. Obviously Joel is a changed person compared to the first game, but we still see his skepticism (e.g. he wanted to "ride out the storm and get out of your hair", then later asks "what are you all doing out this way?").

Second it is worth discussing Ellie's and Abby's sides and why we play half the game as Joel's killer. Abby's story is "one step ahead" of Ellie's; Ellie seeks a path of revenge, while Abby's story details the consequences of that revenge and how it didn't bring Abby closure (until encountering Yara & Lev). The reason we play as Abby is a bit more than the cliche "two sides of the same coin"; we are additionally asked to see the parallels between both stories and how they intersect each other. I actually dug Abby's story and even though Abby doesn't know Tommy/Ellie are hunting them down until day 3, it was fun to see Abby's side knowing that we already visited and interacted with the same people and locations playing as Ellie. One issue is that I couldn't really care much about Owen and Mel since we know they were killed at the end of day 3. Owen's conversation with Abby in the boat contained some nice foreshadowing regarding Lev but besides that I couldn't care much.

The Santa Barbara chapter annoyed me the most; gameplay-wise, it had the most ludonarrative dissonance, since Ellie is the most upgraded at this point (in terms of max health, weapons/upgrades), yet in the story she is weakened and had been impaled and hung by a Rattler trap. It would've been more interesting to play the Santa Barbara chapter with no weapons, reduced health, and forced to rely on stealth or the Rattlers' clicker hostages (which I didn't realize you could unbind them until my 2nd playthrough).
At this point, Ellie likely went to Santa Barbara not with the main intent of killing Abby, but escaping her months-long PTSD/nightmares and finding closure. Was leaving everything behind to travel 1000+ miles, again, except all alone really the best way to do that? However there's some interesting situational irony here: if Ellie did not go to SB, Abby and Lev would be dead, but Ellie ended up freeing them. Perhaps the game could have ended at the farmhouse with Ellie struggling to cope with PTSD but with Dina at her side, and Abby could have bitten off her fingers during the theater fight. Tommy then arrives with knowledge of Abby's whereabouts, we cut to Ellie contemplating this, and the game ends.

The ordering of flashbacks within the main storylines was interesting and I'm not sure if it paid off for me. Ellie's flashbacks (especially the museum) were brilliant and probably should've been placed at the very beginning (perhaps with the hotel as a tutorial level). The current order made me ask why Ellie would go lengths to exact revenge on a person she had cut ties with, which made it obvious (along with some Ellie/Dina dialogue at the beginning) that Ellie had at least begun to reconcile with Joel.

However there are so many story elements that worked: the portrayal of guilt, forgiveness, how thirst for revenge can destroy a person and their relationships. I think with some changes to the above issues it would have been a 10/10 for me.

A character that gets the revenge Ellie fights for all the game (and doesn't properly receive) in actuality gets to walk away Scot-free, while Ellie is maimed and left sad and alone for even CONSIDERING revenge. It feels like that character's perspective is the focal point of the game, and yes, a character's perspective that is objectively the villain.

Ellie feels like some sort of caricature of revenge and hatred, while Abby is this based god of reason and charm and where all the "light" comes from in the story. It's quite retarded honestly.

Last of Us 2 isn't a perfect title in my books, but at least from a narrative perspective it breaks into new territories, creating a coherent experience from the beginning until the end, with one of the best video game endings I've seen so far. It's in the gameplay where the game tends to fall apart, but in it's best moments it shines really bright. It features one of the most compelling enemy AIs I've seen so far, which generates an infinite amount of surprises. In its best moments the games challenges have the complexity of a puzzle which adapts and generates new combat situations on the go. It's the juicy emergent behaviour many designers strive for these days. At the same time TLOU2 features many questionable design decisions which carried over from Naughty Dogs old titles, but didn't age that well with the new game concept. I really dislike the choice of plants in such complex environments to indicate interactable objects. The inventory system doesn't hold up in stressful boss fights and looting is just a pain, especially chaotic environments like a hardware store. Also, the companion AI is really laking in many instances.

It's saddening to see a bland incoherent title like Ghost of Tsushima get a user rating of 9.3, while a novel work like TLOU 2 gets a mediocre user score. I personally don't feel like I can trust user ratings on metacritic anymore. Whether there's a lack of trustworthiness in those reviews or whether I just grew apart from the common taste I can't tell. I certainly hope the former is the case. I also hope that the sales numbers of TLOU2 don't reflect this sentiment, because I really want to see more of this kind of work from you guys at Naughty Dog.

The thing that almost ruins this game for me is Abby, who we are forced to play as for nearly half of the game. The only redeeming part of playing her was the storyline with Lev and his sister. I didn't care about her WLF friends at all though besides the dog, and I still do not empathize with Abby killing Joel. The fact that Joel dies at the very beginning is a terrible way to go in my opinion but it made me love the few moments we had with him in this game even more. I don't think Ellie should have let Abby live either. It would still have the same message at the end with Ellie coming back to the farm and no one is there. Overall, this game isn't as bad as it is made out to be but it is a letdown storywise to huge fans of the first game like me. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

If that was the only last of us out there, and people didnt have to compare it as a sequel of another game ,( the game of the century ), then it will have a major rating from everyone . I believe fans from last of us 1 expected more in storytelling and they get disappointed in some desissions. Its not easy to beat last of us 1 but still ..a masterpiece in any other way

The gun customization is vast. The parts people are yelling and crying about like Ellie being lesbian are in no way braking the game. Yes Joel died the way it was done made me sick. The flash backs to when Ellie was younger are the best parts of the game. before you say you like it or not try the game. Expand

OK. In many moments there is a strong emotion, we really feel like the character! This thing also about playing the guitar, what a great idea! The most interesting thing is that everything in the first has improved in the second! One more point for dubbing, as always too much show, even I like it in English with subtitles and I'm playing dubbed! The events were very well thought out and with good reason! That is the impact they really wanted to make. Small, more graphic details like moving the grass a bit weird, and the main characters getting run over in some places gets on the negative side. For the rest, a spectacular experience, as promised. It had been a long time since anything had held me for so many hours without wanting to stop. For me, note 8.5. Here is a very exciting excerpt with some great music !! A-HA TAKE ON ME

I don’t need to tell you what the last of us is, if you havnt played part one please go play it first, it’s a far superior game and only one of 3 games ive ever given a 10/10 to.. now that those people are gone… last of us part 2 picks up where we left off.. sortve. This is a bit of a fallout of joel and ellie.. again.. sortve.. its complicated… a game that hops all over timelines all the way back to the day joel decides his 2nd chance at being a father outweighed a potential cure for humanity… theres fighting theres pain, theres regret.. theres loves, theres forgiveness, theres hopelessness.. every emotion you could imagine, the last of us part 2 smacks you with.. however its just not an enjoyable game to play through…
Here youll have a chance to play as joel, but barely.. youll mostly play as ellie and a new character abby… both on a revenge mission…and of course with ellie branching out and you playing as a new character, last of us part 2 introduces a whole new cast of chracters.. and theyre all awful. Every last one of them… this is the most unlikable cast of characters In recent memory.. and in a game all about story.. characters are important.. I even ended up disliking ellie one of my favorite characters in video game history by the end of this game.. heck even within the games first few hours of about 20… shes become such an annoying hipster.. and while this aspect of her fades the darker the game gets… other aspects of her come out that just ruined that character for me… but to the actual gameplay… the last of us part 2 is some of the most fun stealth in a game ive ever played.. this feels much more like an assassins creed game and less like a resident evil like the last game… even the infected are easier to deal with.. in fact this game in general is more accessable and overall just easier for better or for worse… and the world here is filled with the most detail ive ever seen in a game, leterally every square foot of this game is filled with unimaginable detail, and load times here are near instantaneous after dying… it blew my mind numerous times.. however I feel like the passion put into world building and detail crafting was all for none, as the last of us part 2 quickly becomes repetitive bore.. you constantly juggle climb through buildings, crawl through grass, climb through buildings, crawl through grass with the occasional surprise like a museum or aquarium, but it just becomes so painful to play at times because of how bloated the last of up part 2 feels… it took me 3 weeks to get through this game, just because id lose interest so fast while playing… thankfully the final few hours of this games we get some fresh variety, but a game like this that does nothing new has no business being beyond 15 hours.. it just doesn’t..
stealth, collect, craft.. you know.. you played the first game.. it’s all the same here just more fine tuned, but with such unmemorable levels.. they all blur together with only a couple of stand out moments.. and I just expect more from a naughty dog game…
Ultimately The Last of Us Part 2 is a great game,
I do appreciate the attempt at a bold story telling approach with multiple characters, getting multiple story perspectives of the same story, and I appreciate the detail.
but this game is great in the way that pizza is great, too much and you have a tummy ache.. This is the last of us part 2, its bloated and boring, and again the characters are just so unlikable it was really hard for me to get through..
and nay good this series had, the games director niel druchman just spits on and throws in the trash…
I don’t regret playing this game, but I am disappointed in the overall delivery of a potentially crazy story.
I give The Last Of Us Part 2
    an 8.5/10

I don't want to judge the plot because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The production level is excellent and it is technologically a masterpiece.
However, I can only give it an 8 because Naughty Dog won't walk out of their comfort zones. Just like Uncharted 3 and 4 which are expansion packs of Uncharted 2. The last of us 2 plays exactly like the first one.
    God of War is great

People here are just complaining cuz the didnt get their fairytale ending? That's what it looks like. Why do they say the story and characters are badly written? Sure, the first game is superior, but by no means TLUS2 is a bad game, kinda dated in the gameplay side of things, but still a solid game.
I'll be the first one to complain about SJW agenda on hollywood and mainstream media, and yet it didnt seemed forced as many people are saying. It had been established since the first game what Ellie's sexual preferences were and tbh it didnt matter.
Storytelling is pretty good, they make us care, you want ellie to get revenge, I dont mind Joel being dead, it gives tha player motives and it follows up from the TLU and Joel's decisions to not let Ellie die to save humanity. Cause and effect (no fairytale BS like many man childs here seem to want).
it perfectly sets the scene for this game, revenge, either by Abby and by Ellie. Along the way both of them lose friends on each others quest for revenge.
Another complain is having to play as Abby, while i Admit her playthrough is kinda dull, is good to know both sides of the story in an effort to understand every character's motivation and goals.
And finally the last complain "why go through all of that if you are going te let her live?"
I am, by no means a genius, but cmon you guys need to pay more attention to the story. When fighting Abby she has a final flashback about Joel that causes her to spare Abby. And from that we learned that Ellie confronted Joel about saving her from the fireflies a day before his death, basically telling him that she would never forgive him and pausing and finally saying that she will like to try it, explicitly saying she was on a path of forgiveness. Joel at least died knowing that.
Killing Abby would've continued that path of revenge and wouldve made Ellie make the same mistakes he resented Joel for.
In the end she loses Dina and her child, all for revenge.
But narrow minded people only seem to care about Joel dying, SJW propaganda and not even try to understand the whole picture is IDIOTIC.

Storywise I feel like the game played its biggest hand to early (joels death) the ellie/joel oartnership is something that really made the first game special and taking that away was a mistake in my opinion, That being said the story that was told was really engaging and interesting and took you from playing this revenge mission to learning about the motives and feelings of the "enemy" and really bringing into question "who really is the bad guy?"

this game is not a 10/10 and its not a 0 , I certainly preffered the first game but this is still a great game

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok, almost done with my 2nd playthrough..but I've seen the ending maybe eight times by now..so I get the idea.

    Negatives first:

1.) I've seen some others say this and I agree..this should have been Last of Us 3..if there was going to be such a thing. I can deal with Joel meeting a similar fate..but ALL of these new characters should have been built up way more prior.

Flashbacks and perspective absolutely does help..but having them not come across as random people would have been much better in the justification for such a BOLD move, imo!

It's not just Abby, who has some redeemable qualities like so many others say..it's not..but she could have been given way more personality.

Now, maybe they'll fill in the blanks with the show that's due out. Maybe, maybe not and while I PERSONALLY like/agree with the ending..they didn't do themselves a lot of favors to the general fan.

2.) The dogs. Game-wise..it's a good tactic..but I'd rather they just kept using mines..or turrets..or cameras. Yeah, that's generic as hell...but generic beats me having to kill any more of them. Bravo to the dog that was mo-capped for this, btw!

3.) How Tommy/Joel were initially trapped.

It would have made a lot more sense if Abby was actually the one that saved them..and then they had to follow her to where she was staying.

Whether you agree with what Joel did was 'right'/justified..that's up to you..but they DID save her.
Also..I would have liked to hear ANY back/forth between her/Joel about the elephant in the room.
    Same with Ellie/Abby..but especially Joel/Abby.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Everything else was GREAT.

The combat is SO MUCH better, visuals, the flashbacks were extremely well done, sfx/voices/music, graphics. The photomode was nice..all the new random options were fantastic.

You can change the controls (which I didn't) is always a plus

The new factions were cool..especially the seraphites.

The ending...a lot of people wanted VENGEANCE. Well, what was killing Abby going to do and more importantly..do you think Joel would want her to do that? Why'd she go there at all you say?
Well, she obviously felt one thing and her mind was eventually changed at the end. No one else has done that before?

Also...if he had to do it all over again..I know he said he'd do just that..but I don't know..maybe knocking them out or pushing the doctors out of the way would have been a smarter move on his part?

Anyways...I do not think Joel would want Ellie to finish Abby. No matter how much hate she has..how much hate you might have for her..and again..just projecting here..but for how much Joel is shown to be softened in all the flashbacks..I just don't see it.

Others said it should have been a choice to kill Abby. Well, that wouldn't really work if Abby/Lev were the main characters in TLOU 3 (which I wouldn't recommend (at this point))?!
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basically..I think this game/story will age a lot better once the show is out (to a varying degree).

Underdeveloped/seemingly random characters and dogs..those are my issues (currently).

Oh and the stadium the Wolves are at...don't know if it was the Huskies/Seahawks..that looked INCREDIBLE.

... and nice job of hiding all the cards/coins!

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In closing..this story is ALL about perspective. Who is the hero? Who is the villain? If this person does that thing to that person..does it catch up to that person 15 years from now in that way..or this way? Was that person justified? If not, why not?

It did a great job creating/furthering the conversation and I appreciate that. There are no villains..no heroes..just the person/people you empathize with more than the other. 8.25 out of 10

I cannot believe how my 2013 PS4 manages to deliver such a technical masterpiece.

The game felt quite long, which at the first sight is a positive trait, but sometimes it got too long (won’t elaborate to avoid spoilers).

The gameplay in itself is not revolutionary in my opinion. It is very enjoyable thanks to perfect animations, but is doesn’t bring anything very now, nor much variation. Sometimes, TLOU2 pumps too hard in the reservoir of what it has to propose. How many times, as Ellie or Abby, have I had to kill a whole army on my own? Another annoying thing is based on the ammo. Let me explain. When you play the game, you will quickly notice that ammo is scarce, but you will also notice that every time you start finding a lot of ammo consistently, it means that a long combat against either zombies or humans will follow, and that’s bad because it makes the game super predictable.

Don’t get me wrong though, the game still emotionally shocks by moments, it is rough, unforgiving, and shows how humans may make imperfect (and sometimes frustrating) choices. Horror, deception, irrationality and loneliness are some of the many feelings this game manages to transmit to the player. You will probably feel for the characters, bond to them despite their defaults, which is a thing not many games manage to excel at.

I also want to talk a bit about the story itself. I think that, such as it is the case with the The Walking Dead TV series, this game got its whole focus on post-pandemic clan wars and revenge, forgetting the very basis of trying to give the player/viewer information on the disease itself. Why? What? When? How? How’s it elsewhere in the world? Those are some of the things that lacked in this game. A second thing is that the end of the game leaves us too much in the dark. Too many questions are left unanswered, and I think that especially giving the fact that the game really pushes in length in order to make us bond with a specific character, it should have shown us how things finish with way more footage (cutscenes at least). To finish on the story, I’d say the following: after I finished TLOU1 for the first time, I was very emotionally hit, I almost couldn’t play any other game for one week because of how deep the game made me voyage. With TLOU2, I don’t have that strong feeling, I liked it, but it didn’t revolutionize my emotions.

I thus think TLOU2 is a very good game, but it is not perfect, nor does it bring whole new previously unseen gameplay mechanics. That said, it is super enjoyable (except for the too long part), and I cannot wait to play TLOU3. Thank you Naughty Dog.

Теперь, когда я прошёл игру, пора написать мнение.
The last of us я считаю шедевром.

The last of us part

That said, many of the complaints people have about this game are totally valid. For large parts of the story, characters show little to no emotion about anything that's going on, and everyone is just hellbent on revenge, no matter how alien their indifference to murder might seem to their character. Ellie and Tommy spend no time thinking about how, just maybe, Joel kind of brought his fate on himself. Ellie herself says that she doesn't think she can forgive Joel for what he did in TLOU 1, so why on earth would the people on the other side of the equation be able to forgive him? To them, and I would imagine to most who played the game, Joel is, well, kind of f'ing evil. Ellie and Tommy are decently intelligent people, and yet they never even begin to explore any internal conflict or potential empathy with those they seek vengeance against. It's super frustrating. Even when that development does happen within the space of literally 1 second near the end of the game, it isn't explored or questioned, but just kind of happens out of nowhere in a relieving but pretty dumb way. That, at least, is my main beef with the game.

As for actually playing the game, it's really similar to the first installment. The mechanics are more or less the same, but smoothed out a bit (I only found the game clunky in a few ways that didn't impact my enjoyment terribly. The shooting felt really smooth, though), and the skill trees/supply gathering at all very familiar. I wouldn't say that's a bad thing, really. It might have been interesting to add some new elements, but it could also have just bogged down an already decently robust combat system. It's super stressful at points, as we would expect, but does an okay job of breaking up the really creepy bits with only somewhat creepy bits. Definitely more jump scares than I would have liked.

The acting is as good as you would expect. Shannon Woodward does a great job as Dina, who despite a limited role is a bit of a highlight of the game (despite apparently having 0 judgement), as does Laura Bailey as Abby, who actually I thought was pretty cool but to each their own. The thing is, the interactions between the main characters and their companions are really good, but just don't really happen enough and generally aren't as deep as you might like.

With most of the negative out of the way, the game is actually pretty good. It's not ground breaking like its predecessor, but that is an insanely high bar. Character development does fall a bit flat, but that doesn't make the story entirely bad. the POV change part way through I actually found really interesting and refreshing. Playing through the second half makes you view the first half in new context, a context that even still isn't really explored enough in games. The game also looks great and for the most part is fun to play, though there is definitely some padding in there. The ending is, well, it's not what you want. I'm still not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. On the one hand there is some poetry to it that contains a nuance the rest of the game can't seem to find, but on the other hand something is just... missing. There is a definitive lack of closure and honestly postmodern endings are just not it anymore. Still, I can't help but feel that this game's biggest flaw is that it's the sequel to The Last Of Us, and perhaps it was never possible to recapture that depth. Everything about it is seems cool, and on the surface level is cool, but isn't fleshed out. In most games I really don't think that would be a big deal, but here it is. I want to get to know Lev and Yara more, I want to know more about the Seraphites, about how WLF came to be and what they want. I want to learn more about Dina's story, I want there to be stretches of the story where literally everyone you meet doesn't want to kill you on sight, because so much of the game is actually really cool and good, but so little of it is embellished on.

Basically, this game is that is really, really good, except there's too much of what you don't really want, and not enough of what you do want, and so while I still enjoyed playing it (a lot!), there were too many flat moments for it to stand out as a truly great game. I really hope they consider a trilogy, because I know there's enough still there to make something remarkable.

And also all the people complaining about how it's too intersectional can gtfo.

The final mission where you go to kill Abby is so pointless there's literally not a single point in that mission. They should've just ended it with Ellie living happy on the farm with Dina and JJ and Abby and lev finding the fireflies. I would've been so happy with that ending. But the ending they've gone for is Ellie roaming the wilderness alone and we have absolutely no idea what's happened to Abby and lev. Awful ending it's a 10/10 game but the ending knocks two points off for sure. I also couldn't have been the only person to really like Abby so I wasn't happy at all at the end when we were trying to kill her.

YOU SAID that TLOU2 was about both Joel and Ellie! You also said: "Trust us, we won't fail you, we love these characters more than anyone"... Yeah right, guess what: IT WAS A LIE. The way he dies is just ridiculous and having a character that looks like you spitting on him? **** YOU.

If you think the story is "just another revenge story" or "the ending was pointless," then you absolutely missed the whole point of the game. And you probably missed it because the well was already poisoned and you were trying to make it fit into one of those unoriginal revenge stories. It's unoriginal, yet people are mad cause it didn't end the way "it should have." Give me a break. Don't want to spoil this game anymore than it already has been, but definitely worth a play. К минусам так же добавлю продолжительность. К сожалению, геймплейная формула не предусматривает большой разнообразности и к концу пресловутые "арены" пробегал. Ибо надоело.

The mechanics are a step above from the last game with the combat situations and the tools at your disposal. At higher difficulties the AI is very challenging and with low ammo as a factor, stealth and clever crafting become a necessity.

The story was very emotional and impactful. Most of it is tragic, and that should be a warning to anyone who wants to play. This is very dark and happy moments are rare. My only problem I had was the disjointed order. I think they could have presented the plot in a more meaningful and linear way, but that isn't what you'll get. It's fine the way it is, but it could have been better. The entire plot is still quite an experience and one of the best I've gone through since God of War.

A lot of the accessibility options in this game are amazing. I used some of them and I'm sure many people saw benefit from what you can do.

Overall I think this game reached the legacy of the first game at the very least. A lot of people might dislike the events of the story, but to give the game a zero because it made you mad is childish. This game is above any average Ubisoft or Activision game. It is quite literally one of the best games of this generation.

The writers try a little too hard to force an agenda, yet there is an ugly side to humanity as well that we try to avoid and instinctively abhor. If we accept that what's shown in the game is possible of any of us, then the plot is easier to stomach.

The storytelling itself is acceptable. The writers do manage to help you bond with the characters. At the end I found myself sympathizing with both the protagonist Ellie and antagonist Abby, as well as their companions. If the game had a little more light, most would give it an 8. But the plot is dark. Really dark. The characters do redeem themselves at the end, but that is too little, too late.

Gameplay: Same as always. Not much difference compared to the first game. Combat is a little more fluid and exploration a little quicker, but basically the same. And by that I mean entertaining. It becomes repetitive, but the game isn't long enough to get you sick of it.

Graphics: Much improved over the first game. Textures, detail, design, are all a step above the originals. But that is to be expected. The previous game was a made for the PS3. Wouldn't say that it's amazing though. But there are some portions deserving of praise, such as the character facial expressions and how natural the character's movements are.

Voiceacting: Perfect, 10 out of 10. The plot might not be perfect, but the characters told the plot as best they could.

Overall, an acceptable plot, Good storytelling and fine everywhere else. 8 out of 10. If it were a little brighter, it'd have been a 10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yes, I have played and fully completed the game before rendering my opinion of it. Overall TLOU2 was emotionally gut-wrenching in a great way. The emotional impacts it had when it had them were amazing and what I have come to expect from Naughty Dog. The graphics, character animations, environments, and gameplay are all amazing! The level of care and detail that they gave to seemingly the smallest things is really amazing. The level of interaction with the environments, the kill animations, all great. Small details like when under a vehicle you shoot on your side and craft on your side instead of just floating the camera like so many other games do. There are too many to list. I very much enjoyed it. I know alot of people have had issues with the story. I have too do toa degree, but not for the standard reasons from what I've heard. I am not upset about how or when Joel died. His death was not a shock. I assumed he would die in this game before any leaks every came out. It had to happen. I get it, I'm fine with it. From the begining I was hooked with the story. The presentation. The darkness of tone and emotion. The death of Joel impacted me and it was some of the biggest feels of the game. I was all onboard with Ellie's revenge plot and totally in untill the second half. When the narrative shifted to Abby (as I assumed it would) I expected a good amount of gameplay but not half of the game. This choice to do this really derailed the momentum of the game for me. I understand what effect they were going for. Seeing the counterpoint to your actions, humanizing the people you've killed, and seeing what Abby has done and will loose due to her actions; like Ellie. The story has them both as morally ambiguous protagonists. But I just didn't care as much as I did for Ellie. This had nothing to do with her having killed Joel - I just never felt connected to Abby or her agency. I felt like this section of the game dragged. At least until the end. The ending was brutal and amazing. Truly depressing and sad. And it was great. I don't care that she let Abby live. I think that was a good moment. But I would have wanted a bit more development around that. Loosing her fingers and Dina in the end. What a gut punch. The number of times I have teared up or cried from this game is a testament to it's strengths, the amazing world, writing and actors in it. I felt it in the first game and it's even more so in this one; these games are post-apocalyptic westerns. This game in particular is essentially an old Western revenge story like that of Unforgiven. It's gritty and dark and depressing and real in so many ways. It really is great and I love the world. I just wish that second half was structured differently for pace and effect. Overall it's a truly great game. But I feel it had the potential to be utterly amazing. But do take I to mind that normally in almost any other game ever - I would not be so critical of these things. It's only because the first game was so good and that this game too is that good, that when aspects of this game don't fully land that it upsetting. I would personally give it an 8/10. Expand

Joel and Ellie share one unique story amongst billions within a pandemic, post-apocalyptic world. As much as we grew to love them both and shared their experiences, we could have just as easily shared Abby's story on TLoU Part 1. If that were the case, knowing what most of us know now, we would have hated Joel without having known his story, along with a different opinion of his character. Love and hate must co-exist and sometimes it comes at a cost. That is the natural order in which we live. Joel knew that he effed up, which is why he couldn't bring himself to tell Ellie the truth. He was blinded by love, anguished still by the death of his daughter and Tess. Joel was not about to lose anyone else that he cared about and he would prevent it by any means necessary. At the end of Part 1, Joel became the biggest monster of them all. We, as the player, couldn't really comprehend this because we were so involved with what he saw, to the point where we were forced to chose what he had already chosen to do; completely immersed in his hatred to the point where he had forced us into being the bad guy. This is who Abby saw, and we were never there to witness her agony. TLoU Part 2 is the aftermath of bad decisions and their repercussions. It's gut wrenching and it will break you down. But if you're gonna rate it, don't base it on the characters human retributions. The game-play is solid, with new features and the new workbench weapon upgrade system is the best that I've seen. My 8 rating isn't for just how much I love it for all the new in-game features and abilities, but for how much I l LOVE to **** hate it. It's a story that I feel will stick with you, long after it's over. If you can't handle a dose of dark principles, go play some Mario Kart. I will rate again after I've finished the game. Expand

Let’s go ahead and address the main reason most people are upset with this game, Joel’s death. Despite aforementioned circumstantial storytelling (Abby just so happening to stumble across the man she’s set out to kill), I don’t mind how this was handled. Do I wish he was never killed? Sure, I like Joel. But his death only works because I like Joel. Many people have said that Joel is out of character here in that he trusts this woman, Abby, despite a history of mistrust. For one, I never viewed the decision to go to Abby’s hideout as implicit trust, but ultimately, they are running from a horde. It made the most sense to me to seek immediate shelter rather than possibly lead this horde to the town of Jackson. And I’ve seen many people say he should have died sacrificing himself, which feels like such a cliche way to kill off a character, and the fact that his death isn’t handled in this way makes me appreciate the risk, and yes it is a risk the devs have taken, even more.

All other storytelling aspects, are handled well, if not at a snails pace. I love the constant call backs to Joel and Ellie’s relationships through the strum of a guitar in addition to the flashbacks, those both positive and those that end in conflict. My favorite part about The Last of Us Part 2 is the subtle storytelling. Nothing is in your face and if you aren’t looking, you’ll completely miss it. As an example, when exploring Joel’s home after his death, you find an “idiots guide to space” book on his bedside table, and you do not truly learn the significance of this until several hours later. Even then, that significance is not spelled out as that book can be completely missed if you aren’t exploring every nook and cranny of this game.

Ellie’s emotional arc here makes a lot of sense in its flow. Initially, I shared in her anger and relished in the death dealt out, especially to those responsible for killing Joel. As the game went on, that anger wavered, both with myself and Ellie. It felt like there was a real cost here. I found myself hoping the ultimate meeting with Abby would be met with words rather than bloodshed. Forcing her to see Joel as the father-figure he died as rather than the monster she believed him to be.

The shift to Abby’s perspective was an actual breath of fresh air, despite the fact that I do not like her. I felt less like the devs were forcing me to like Abby, rather to just understand her motivations. To me, this is another huge risk, and I love the game for it. I find it fascinating to dive into the shoes of, arguably, the villain of this story. While not likeable, I did find her relationship with Lev pretty endearing, especially as he helps her conqueror her fear of heights. Again, great subtle storytelling here, this relationships stems directly from Abby’s reaction to not only Joel’s death but how she is perceived from that outcome by her peers.

The gameplay here is far more engaging than the first. I loved every encounter and the level design is, in my opinion, the best that Naught Dog has done for any of their games. While the game is funneling you towards the end goal, it FEELS like you can go anywhere, despite that being demonstrably untrue. I’ve seen criticism that gameplay lacks “set pieces” as they’re present in the first, such as Joel being captured by one of Bill’s traps, forcing you to protect Ellie while hanging upside down. I’d completely disagree with this sentiment. I found these types of moments to be plentiful, from multiple hoard encounters to a pretty incredible car chase, an insane Bloater fight with Ellie and Joel, and...probably my favorite, exploring the lower levels of a hospital which turns out to be Seattle’s ground zero for the outbreak.

I really like this game. It’s not perfect, but it is thrilling and an emotional punch in the gut. I did not want more of the same (Outside of gameplay) with the Last of Us Part 2. I didn’t want the formula for the first game to be replicated here, because that is always what we get with video game sequels. In the end, I found the story to be both thrilling and heartbreaking with incredibly complex characters at its center.

I give 8/10 because 2 points deduct for the unhealthy practice of this game story line. I guess the producers of this game got mental disorder such as anxiety disorder. You should go to see a psychologist to give you some professional counseling. Everything should think positive.

If this game had better writting and proper execution, this game would have been better. Like I said this game has a good story which touches upon some good and complex themes, but only poorly written with less interesting narrative. I respect them for trying something completly different instead of making and following the huge of success of the first game. People are hating on this game for only a single plot element and should ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME. Overall, this isn't near to the perfection of the first last of us, but its still a good game. I mean not everyone can give out a perfect game each time and naughty dog is no exception and there will be times where they can disapoint which is ok. I still felt slightly disappointed, since I have been hyped for this game back in psx 2016 but I'm sure they won't disapoint with their next game. My rating for last of us 2 is an 8/10. This rating mght seem good, but for me naughty dog's range is atleast a 9 to truly deliver. Moving to the technical aspects, the ghraphics are stunning and beautiful and its easily the best and realistic looking game I have ever played. The acting and facial animations are exellent and the sound designing is so realistic and great. The gameplay is far more improved in this game, there are many new mechanics that were added which adds another layer to the gameplay. I really enjoyed the gameplay, it was fluid, realistic and really fun. This time the AI is much more improved making the encounters more challenging and you have to be more stategic to approach them. There are so many small details that are just crazy to see. In brief, its a technical masterpiece and they put **** ton of effort in making this game and few reports say this game costed them at least 100 million to make. They pushed the boundaries of gaming and I can't imagine how their games will look on PS5. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked The last of us part II, but i considered that it is not as the fist title.

Playability: it is better that first tittle (although is a sequel must do), introduces new zombies enemies and dogs (A good point for me, these enemies have got kill me many times), but human enemies are very silly, although i have seen that in levels more high (Difficult and survival) this is fixed (I have played in normal)

Atmosphere: Jackson, Seattle and California feel alive and it can see the great game design.

Graphics: The best the generation with red dead redention II

Plot: Ok, this is the parth that i have felt a little disappointed, i`ve liked the Joel´s death (It is logic, respect the first game), but i think that could be better that we have known more later, Ok i explained:

In this game we control Ellie and another caracter, Abby, who´s killed Joel, if Naugthy Dog wanted that we felt something by Abby, it shouldn´t have showed as soon Joel death´s, and theremore should have mixed the two stories, because when i started the Abby´s story, i felt to play another game, and is a cut action total, and the island part, i spared a lot, i don´t like anything Isaac, Lev and Hanna (In my opinion, this part is badly told.

I think that this game has a great ideas, like the stupid that is the revenge, but the direction in this game has not lived up, it is a pitty, it could have been a masterpiece.

The story and characters are where things get dicey. Overall, it’s great. But once the perspective shifted to Abby, I started noticing things I didn’t like. Many scenes featuring Abby and her friends made me actively dislike them, and it wasn’t until two new characters joined Abby that I began to see her as more than the gaming community’s punching bag. The rest of the story, however, was breathtaking, going in a direction I’ve never seen in a video game. As an added bonus, the LGBTIQ+ representation is superb, and the accessibility options make this game one of the most disabled friendly games ever made. Bravo Naughty Dog.

TLOU2 is bold in its narrative decisions and I can see why it's caused such a huge divide between critics and players.

Naughty Dog does stumble in places, however. The combat and stealth feel dated and rusty compared to the polished finesse in other departments, and the narrative suffers from inconsistent pacing. A few character decisions are out of place and there are more than several moments that are eye-rollingly heavy handed.

Overall, TLOU2 isn't the masterpiece that I think many critics have portrayed it as. It's an ambitious title that pushes the capabilities of the medium, but as an experience it's overly long, self-important, and doesn't say as much as it thinks it does. It is still a great time, and if you were a fan of the shoot-em and loot-em mechanics from the first game you'll feel at home here. By no means groundbreaking, but still absolutely worth trying - regardless of what angry fanboys said at release.

Thing is though it'd be the same if the characters weren't "SJW" they'd still be naff characters so try to look past that and take the game on its own merits.

Anyway my first 5 hours with the game had me ready to write this off as an exercise in frustration. Right off the bat if you're not into stealth games you're probably gonna have a bad time. It can be very unforgiving and some of the combat encounters can feel a bit laborious. Once you get further in though it all feels like it clicks into place and you get a real feel for what you're doing. For me the story was a harrowing experience but very well delivered subjectively of course.

In retrospect I've dropped the score down to an 8 as the more I've thought about it the more niggles have cropped up. The tendancy to lavishly animate literally everything wears thin and ironically lends an air of uncanny valley when you're doing something quintessentially videogamey like crafting or upgrading. What you're doing isn't especially realistic within the time frame so it's odd to see it played out with hyper realistic animations. I'd rather they saved the fancy animations for the meat and potatoes of the combat, exploration and social interactions. Would save the players time and likely cut down on unnecessary Dev crunch.

Also the game could stand to lose a few hours and would probably be better for it. Plus some of Ellie's behaviour and decisions later in the game I just couldn't quite suspend my disbelief on which took me out of it a bit.

If you're in the market for a decent stealth game with oodles of exploration and insane visuals with a good story to boot then you're in for a treat. Just be aware that it's extremely heavy going emotionally and is very stealth focused.

Graphics, gun play and levels are really great in this one. The attention to detail is really high, immersing you even more in the story. The story is very central to this game and its portioned out in a good way through out the game.

So to the bad parts. The game is to long, a shorter version would have been more efficient. The actual gameplay also gets quite repetitive even if they do mix it up with some variations in enemies, you use the same tactics to take them all out. Variation in gameplay is mainly "cosmetic", different looking enemies and new environments. A few new gun here and there, but it is still very focused on sneaking. The sneaking mechanic is good, but to build such a long game around it ends up hurting the game a bit.
I feelt that the gun-selection was a bit clunky as well, did not quite like that.
There are also a fair couple of flashbacks and scenes that add nothing/little to the story and are just quite dull to sit through.
The story could have evolved better, the game is split in 2 sections - first as Ellie for 3 days, then your reset back 3 days and plays as Abby (about 50/50 split playing both characters). Your left in kind of a cliff-hanger from Ellie, which made me feel like I just wanted to "catch up" to the third day to see what happens. I think it would have made more sense to play perhaps one day as Abby, next as Ellie and so on to mix it up and keep the story a bit more interesting.

But even with the flaws, the game is still a great game. Its not a "one of a kind masterpiece" - but it is good.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

It's not a "nice" story with a happy end on a white horse.

The graphics is just gorgeous and very detailed. You find a lot details just for a single scene, or something you just stumple upon details that most players will miss. It makes the world believable. There are some flaws with enemy encounters, though, like some encounters where you think no way a real human would survive this, but hey, it's a game. The levels are very linear, sometimes very noticeable, sometime not, most of the time it's just fine and I didn't mind much. Overall the sneaking/killing works very well and can be quite nerve wrecking (in a good sense).

I do understand it's a polarizing game, for various reasons. You might not like some characters or the way the story develops, but it is in my opinion a good/well-told story (even though it's a cliche revenge story). Most main and secondary characters are neither black or white, they have likeable traits and dislikable flaws. It made me care for characters, hate others, think about them and their situations, I liked a lot of things in the story (and side stories) and there's few for me to complain about. The game really made me forget my surrounding and sucked me in at times, which is all I want of a game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finished the game in about 30 hours and overall I enjoyed it, but I can also understand the criticism the game is receiving from a large group of gamers, and even agree with some points. So here it goes:

    - Is this game better than the first one? No, it is not, this game lacks some key elements of the first one, like the journey across multiple cities or the "us against the world" feeling so present in TLOU.

    - Is this the game a masterpiece? Graphically speaking, yes it is, it looks amazing. The performance of the voice actor and actresses is top notch and very convincing, really a 10 out of 10. But it's not perfect enough to be called a masterpiece. There's too much repetition combat wise, for example.

    - Is the story good? That's a tough one, yes and no, but the only way I found to answer that is by saying: its a good story for this game alone, but as a story worthy of a sequel to the first game? No. Like I said before, it's not the same feeling as it lacks key elements of the first game.

    - Is there wokeness in the game? Yes, and I most definitely don't like politics and social activism in games, because it tends to ruin them, but it's not a big issue in TLOU2. It didn't bother me in this case.

    - Was Joel's death really necessary to the sequel? Not in my opinion, there was other possibilities, it did work for the story, but still didn't like this creative choice from Naughty Dog. This was very disappointing.

Well, I do think people should play this game, but I would wait for some PSN sale in the future.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To see the world through the eyes of your enemy. In most games, the acts of the characters we play as are portrayed as just or treated as escapism. In this, we play as characters who do terrible things and those acts aren't justified. It is a tale of consequence. How I felt about the characters at the beginning was very different from how I felt about them at the end. I think that is why it is so divisive. The characters you play as make a lot of choices that can be hard to accept and the player has no control over those decisions. In some ways, it's like the end sequence of the Last of Us 1, we don't chose who the characters are for better or worse.

In terms of visual and sound quality, its at the highest level. The character modeling, environments, animation, lighting and FX are all among the best of any game I have seen. That's been said by countless people so I will focus on my experience overall.

The gameplay is split between two characters, Ellie and Abby. About an hour into Abby's story, after being saved by Joel, Abby and her friends turn on Joel, murdering him in front of Ellie. This act makes Abby incredibly hard to like and makes playing as her feel like a huge betrayal. For everyone who loved Joel in the first game, playing as the character who brutally murders him, especially after he just saved her life is hard. With that said, I think that is the point, from very early on, the player gets to share Ellie's feelings of hate. To me, that was an effective part of the experience. Most of the characters aren't ideal but they are believable and multidimensional. Almost every character makes many bad decisions, they were hard to like but by the end I could empathize with them, even if I still couldn't agree with them. I don't think you need to like the characters for the game to be good though. The game isn't trying to tell you that these characters are justified in their actions, it is taking you through the series of events that shape their view of each other, themselves and the world. in that I felt it was very effective.

The first half of the game you mainly play as Ellie hunting Abby. Along the way, Ellie finds and kills Abby's friends and accomplices one by one. The problem is, most of Abby's friends didn't take part in killing Joel, so for Ellie, killing them is not satisfying. it doesn't lessen her hatred because she doesn't associate them with the act. She is almost singularly focused on killing Abby. She risks everyone she loves and kills any person that gets in her way. As I played further and further, I found myself losing respect for Ellie, she continued to make choices that I could not justify. In the first game, Ellie pretty much kills people out of self defense but in this game she is the hunter. Most of her kills can still be attributed to survival but progressively more of her kills are unnecessary. Other characters start pointing out that the people she is killing are not so different from them and ask Ellie what Joel might have done to cause people to come after him. Ellie almost always brushes it off, looking for reasons to distinguish the people she kills from herself and the people she loves. She acknowledges that Joel hurt a lot of people but never seems to consider that the people who killed him had similar motives to her own. At first it seems like Ellie isn't aware of what Joel did at the end of the Last of Us, but then a flashback reveals she learned the truth before the beginning of the game. She already knew Joel killed the Fireflies. I thought she wouldn't learn the truth until later in the story and that would shift her perspective but she already knew. She is too emotionally driven by her hatred to care. Ellie eventually kills nearly everyone Abby cares about. Yet if she doesn't kill Abby, to her, it was all for nothing. She can't live without finishing it.

Playing as Abby starts off difficult. Even though I had begun to sympathize with her, I couldn't look past what she did to Joel. Playing as her doesn't undo her crimes but it shows them in a different context. Seeing all that she has lost and learning about her enemies perspective reveals not only her humanity but the humanity of others as well. Her journey is not only similar to Ellie's, by the end it is similar to Joel's. In many ways, by the end, Abby becomes a similar person to who Joel was in The Last of Us 1. Just like Joel, she carries guilt but lives to protect a child, a child that has come to represent hope for the future. Abby has the opportunity to kill Ellie but chooses mercy because she has seen her enemy clearly and knows killing her won't make things better. Even after being shown mercy though Ellie can't let go, she needs to complete her quest, years later she is haunted by it. Only after Ellie has Abby's life in her hands does she realize their similarity. She comes to a similar conclusion as Abby. She lets her go and lives with the loss and the consequences of what she has done

Game play wise we do not see anything new, just tweaks, adjustments and additional already existing mechanics from games we know but they still give this new feeling especially considering the first game. Graphics, Animations and music are beautifully implemented and you can once again immerse into the world after the fungus apocalypse. Now it is time to review the story, which is the main reason for poor user reviews for the game. I have to say that although I liked it, I was still missing the main reason most of us loved the first part, which is the relation between main characters. This game is almost twice as long comparing to the first part but still it feels like it took to little to make us feel connection between our main protagonist Ellie and the rest of the characters. I especially feel that second half of the game is focusing too much on something we as a players do not really care about. This part of the story should be much shorter and time and money spent on it could dig deeper into secondary characters included in the story that will resolve in more effective way of connecting us to Ellie's feeling during the play through. Main driver of the story is vengeance, plot point known for ages and used multiple times that we already know that it has two sides. I think that this is the main reason this game does not fulfill our expectations as the moral of the story is known since ages and we are treated like it is some kind of new discovery. In my opinion if the story had more time to focus on old and new characters for most part of the game and do the vengeance part towards the end this game would be 10/10 for sure. Unfortunately this did not happen and we are left with a great game but with flat story that comparing to the first one does not leave you thinking about it during the credits. Expand

That said. It is not a perfect game. Although I'm able to see past its flaws, a lot of people have not been able to and that's their opinion.

In the end, the majority of the hate this game is getting is from people who had a specific expectation and didn't get what they expected / wanted. Instead of being open to something different, they lose their mind.

I'm glad it's not a paint by numbers revenge story. I'm glad I was surprised while playing the game. I may not have liked every surprise, but when the entire experience was finished I was glad I played the game.

It's a great game. It's not perfect. People need to stop losing their minds over characters that they do not own. Joel does not belong to you.

Joel is a terribly selfish and violent human being. His decision at the end of the first game is understandable - but it doesn't make him a hero. At all.
In many ways he did have it coming and it would've been pretty cliché and boring if he was just given a lame, bog-standard redemption arc (and, I mean, he kind of got one in this game... at least somewhat).

While the pacing is off and certain parts of the story are messy, it is a very compelling and exciting experience. It's certainly one of the better "video game stories".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well the Last of Us 2 was it better then the first one? Definitely not.

Did that made it a bad game? Hell no!

    Gameplay : 10

    Graphics : 10

    Characters : 5.5

    Story : 7

(I only explain the last two because those need explanation)

    Characters

Well this was in my opinion one of the worst parts in the game.. Were the first game really nailed it the second part just fell flat on his face. Not all characters were bad don't get me wrong The original cast like Ellie Tommy were good of course and I also really liked Lev. Jimmy wasn't that bad but Dina.. ohgod I really did not like her she was dull and boring. she was just a pain in the ass. And I think the biggest problem with her is that Ellie already is in love with her before the game started . in that way it is harder for the player to also immediately like/love her. If the bonding between those two evolved as the story progressed and if the kissing scene was saved for in Seattle it would have been better in my opinion. (and just skip the pregnancy) And Abby.. she was just extremely unlikable and I think I don't have to say the reason why. Manny as wel (one of Abby's friends) he is even worser then Dina. He was one of the most annoying characters in the game and I was glad when Tommy finally shot a bullet trough his head.

    Story

So the the story which is the most debatable topic for most.

Let me start with this it wasn't a bad story at all IF this was with all new characters you haven't met before.(and if they changed the ending a bit) Because I totally get what they are trying to tell with this story : "revenge is bad". Telling it from 2 points of view is really interesting to do something I always wanted to see in a game. But because you have already played as Joel and Ellie and bonded with them and even love them. There is no way this story would ever work with these characters because even tho Joel is no hero what he did in the first game you will never like or even understand Abby at all. This is in my opinion the biggest flaw of the story.

So the first 22 hours I really enjoyed the story even tho they killed Joel I kind off saw it coming and understood why they did it. I just preferred it was a little bit different. But it gave me a lot of motivation to play this game and enjoying it. Even tho it sounds like a cheap revenge story it was fun to experience the journey with Ellie to kill the people who murdered Joel. Were I preferred to travel with Tommy you were stuck with Dina.. but at least she finds out she is pregnant and Ellie could continue the journey on her own. This is where I really started to enjoy the story it was really well written and you felt Ellie her taste for revenge but also felt her pain and happiness in the flashbacks with Joel. and then this happens the story continues with Abby in like the worst timing ever.. she killed Jimmy knocked Tommy to the ground and held Ellie at gun point. and then the game decided to start over again at Day 1 but now as Abby which kind of ruined the game for me because I rushed trough it didn't explore that much because I just wanted to now what happens at the theatre. I have to admit that her story gets interesting though with the war against the scars and the kid Lev that you are trying to save from them and the climax of her story looks absolutely gorgeous. But I just kept thinking why didn't we do this with Ellie instead. because it was definitely possible! I totally understand that they want to tell the story about these two factions being at war, but why don't you save it for another game or let us experience it with Ellie instead. Well after a while you are back in the theatre.. and then you have to fight Ellie which I did with a pain in my heart. but in the end Abby decides to don't actually kill Ellie which made her a little bit more likable because she sort of accepted revenge isn't everything. But I kind of hoped the story would have end there with Ellie murdering Abby. Because what happens after this I really did not enjoy at all. It was not bad at all but it was so pointless that made me question why even do it at all? So long story short after a while Ellie goes after Abby again only to decide to not kill her while she was drowning her because she got a flashback of Joel. Abby leaves and Ellie starts crying and I was flabbergasted about what just happened and I said to myself "this ending just made the whole game pointless." while I definitely understand what they are trying to say with this story it just does not work in this way with these characters.

My conclusion is : It could have been a masterpiece IF they cut Abby's part out and told some of her story with Ellie instead, and if they altered the ending OR if they just told this story with completely new characters.

But in the end I respect their decisions I just hoped the story went a little bit different.

Let's hope they will end Ellie character arch in a way everyone would like it in part 3.

I never wanted a direct sequel to TLOU - I always felt it was perfect the way it was and a sequel could only worsen the original. As a result, I was incredibly apprehensive and worried going into TLOU2, especially after the negative reactions to the leaks for this game.

I went into this game preparing to hate it; but I was wrong. The graphics and gameplay - as expected - were flawless.

Some parts of the game definitely could've been written better (especially the first few hours), and I think the structure/pacing of the game could've been improved. However, overall, the story was still very engaging to me, and although it wasn't as good as the story in TLOU1, I really enjoyed it. A big change in the middle of the game caused a lot of outrage in some people, but this change worked for me, as it was crucial for the story to be told.

I'd really recommend this game, and it's a shame to see it being review-bombed by people who have only read the leaks or watched out-of-context gameplay online without experiencing the game for themselves!

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
