This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First and foremost I must acknowledge the beautiful graphics and smoothness of gameplay, its as close to perfect as I've seen in any video game. The animations, sound, and world building is second to none. That's where the positives end for me. The plot completely drags beloved characters through the mud for no reason whatsoever. Its all hopelessly nihilistic. None of the characters overcome any struggle at all. Ellie ends up losing EVERYTHING shes built. Loses her father figure, Lover and child, all the way down to losing the ability to play the guitar. Congratulations naughty dog, you've succeeded in creating the most masochistic story ever told.

As far as the specifics of the story, I dont really want to get into that. The one issue I will bring up with the ending though is how in the hell does a beautiful flashback of Joel make Ellie want to STOP drowning Abby? Wouldn't that thought make her want to finish the job EVEN MORE?? What an absolute joke. Its really starting to feel like if there is a severe emotional reaction caused by a shocking scene with dramatic music behind it, the shills will just keep coming back for more. These writers fail to understand there needs to be so much more to a story to have an audience fall in love with the characters in this world. None of these characters are humanized at all or realistic in the slightest... We get to watch multiple "tasteful" sex scenes (according to the critics) which in reality are more of softcore porn.. Let me get this straight.. two 18 year old girls still obviously struggling with the notion of their homosexuality have a mature, intense sexual experience (while smoking weed)? Have the writers forgotten what it was like to be that young... Absolutely absurd writing, top to bottom, Im not even gonna touch on the abomination that is Abby. If we have any hope of maintaining good story telling in this medium we have to stop buying this trash.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolutely fabulous game. Story gave us the closure we needed from the first, and kept myself hooked on character development from start to finish. Yes it was heartbreaking what happened to Joel at the start, but going back and seeing flashbacks of him and Ellie together, moving from just like they were in TLOU part 1 to seeing the rift open between them was brilliantly done. Some really good environmental puzzles, and the stalkers provide a nice amount of anxiety. Abby was a really interesting character to play, and it was great to see the build up that lead her to hunting down Joel. Expand

    Firstly
I would like to talk about what the game pleases me
in sound design is something impeacevel
in graphics and captures of facial expressions is for sure the best game I have ever seen
the game deserves Goty for having the best fascinating technical details but the way the narrative develops, I believe it was a good narrative but I really didn't feel the emotion of 7 years ago that I had with part 1
    The way the narrative develops
with Joel's death in a ridiculous way
made me accumulate a gigantic hate for Abby
even after 10 HOURS of gameplay showing Abby's story she was not able to take a gigantic hatred of me for her
The game was based on revenge all the time
    ellie lost everything for that
when I really thought I would have the satisfaction of watching Abby die
was give me the human value 'Vengeance only brings the worst' and 'forgiving is right'
i wish i could be relieved to see ellie be able to kill her and she feel relieved to have got her revenge but it wasn’t me deliver that emotion
Joel's death made me want to die inside
the character q in the first game said:
    -do not trust strangers
left to be taken by a group of armed people
all that Joel said in part 1 to try to make ellie grow strong was completely forgotten
    this is **** ****
The whole experience in the game is in vain
one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen was ellie playing the guitar
I will never be able to have the same emotion that I felt when I heard her playing and me knowing that Joel was fulfilled his promise to teach her
all the emotions you have in the game are lost due to causes of 'human values'
i really wish i could cry like i cried in part 1 after replaying it 5 times
but I don’t think it’s possible after the feeling of insastification after finishing the game
The game is perfect in technical matters but fails to make the player feel an emotion equal to 7 years ago with part 1.
    that was my opinion
may be poorly structured, but it still remains what I think about the game

It is heartbreaking how main character died. And you can not do anything about and also with the game later you have no choice. Come on - the are games with multiples endings, but here we have one story, very, sad... sad story which "most of us" don't want play.

I don’t know how to feel about this game. For starters the graphics are great, but I felt that the gameplay was okay. Better than the first game but I found myself getting frustrated constantly with the controls by getting stun-locked by enemies or long animations.
Those stalker enemy variants are terrible. They are not fun to fight and the game would be better off without them. It seems

The story was all over the place and made me feel awful after playing the game. That ending was so disappointing and didn’t feel deserved at all. I do not recommend The Last of Us 2.

Leaving the "misleading marketing" prior to launch and the "questionable story line" they went with aside, the game is an absolutely miserable experience. Every single character either dies a horrible, brutal death or goes through a hellish sequence of events before the end credits start to role. Who would ever want to play such a sad game? There is nothing goes that comes of it, no silver lining, no compensation for all the suffering everyone involved goes through (including the play). The game leaves you feeling empty... unfulfilled and... well, angry.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I found the latest addition to the last of us games very good, I managed to play the game without knowing the spoilers that were leaked. The game is just graphically stunning and some the new and little added mechanics like the prone and melee moves to be a great addition, the game is long and can sometimes become tiering If your like me and try explore every corner. The story although controversial as I’ve seen is actually quite gripping and made me want to keep playing to see how it all unfolds and what will happen to our beloved Ellie and even with the loss of Joel even though some see as cheap I took it as a way to show they are not afraid to kill even the most beloved characters, with that it even sometimes left me worrying if this could be the end of Ellie too that just made the game more intense and interesting. One my only big issues was when it moved to the Abby section, I did find it nice to actually see the two sides of the story and even with the hate I felt towards Abby for what she did to Joel it makes some the characters like Manny and Owen even Abby as likeable people dealing with what the messed up world has dealt them I mean you can’t be mad at a women who set on killing the man that took her farther away when your supporting Ellie set to kill the women who took the man who was like a farther figure away. It’s a shame the swap of the story happened right at a intense stand off between both these women tho as it kinda left you frustrated wanting to get back straight to the stand off to see what happens. My overall view of this game is that it is a great game and keeps to the Gritty, gory and cruel environment the first game introduced us. I be looking forward to any more games or even spin off games set in the hellish and infected universe and think the teams have worked hard and should be pleased with what they have helped create. AND on top of that, people are saying all bad reviews are due to homofobia? LGBTQ+ hate? Really? No chance of it being due to the game having flaws in a lot of people's eyes, or what do we call it, their opinion? Both sides are being really pathetic over this, this game has drastic changes compared to the first one, they take away the things people love from the series, people won't react nicely, but to blame it all on minor aspects of the game like a character being trans or the other being really muscular? If you really liked the game you would listen what others think about this game, be it good or bad and allowing discussion, but how people are acting is really infuriating, i really liked a lot of parts of this game, mostly Abby parts, but how the game at it's core is all mixed up, i cant bring myself to give this game a rating higher than 5, and how people are acting like this is **** whilst ignoring the technical aspects, gameplay and all other things due to the critics reviews is unfair makes me not want to give this game a score under 5. And as counter measures people are counter review bombing this with 10's making the other side continue bombing this with 0's, the thing i recommend the most for you to do is, play the game, form your opinion, dont baseless say this game is a masterpiece because other people are saying its trash, dont say its trash since other people say its a unflawed. Form your opinion. And i hope people stop ignoring this game's flaws and this game's right doings.
This game's reviews is a prime example why people shouldn't trust reviews and should trust their own gut. And if someone were to ask me: "Should i buy this game?" i'd tell them no, but there's always a chance you could like it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fair warning, I wanted to hate this game, I didn't think it should have existed as the end of the first was perfect and poignant, however after experiencing this game without being spoiled, without knowing what would come next, I feel this game justified its existence, added to the weight of the ending of the first but showing that Joel's decision affected more than just him and Ellie. The game is a rollercoaster of emotions, that sets the player off on a path of hatred, this continued for me until about an hour into Abbys part. The craftsmanship of the writers allowed me to understand Abby through this section, though I still hated her for what she did to Joel. I i think the ending also made sense as if I was EllieIi I would want closure and for the nightmares yo stop, I think seeing Abby in the state she was in though gave the feeling that she suffered enough for what she did and killing her would not have solved Ellies issues but being able to finally move on with closure did help her move past Abby. Not only did this game live up to the first, I feel it surpassed it as well. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I absolutely loved the game it’s a ground breaking game in terms of realism and realistic believable characters . The acting in this game and mocap is incredible . This game deeply disturbed me at times it was so real . As for the story it’s a great story. It sucks joel dies truely it does but it didn’t ruin the game the journey is incredible and one hell of an experience I feel like I actually experienced this journey . The only thing I would change is ya it be nice if it was another joel and Ellie adventure but last of us 2 is proof you can kill off a main character and the game is still just as amazing game reminds me a lot of the walking dead how no character is safe not even the main character . It gives a sense of realism. It’s very heart breaking and may piss people off but it most def works . And the game is far from being a bad game it May be a darker theme but it works the games incredible . I wish playing as Abby wasn’t so long I feel like she over stayed her welcome . The only good side is you get to see Abby isn’t 100% the worst person yeah she’s def a **** person but she betrayed her own people just to save a kid which is kind of what joel did when he saved Ellie. Last of us 2 is also proof that you can get a attached to a complete different duo of characters not just joel and Ellie. So I hope they make a last of us 3 . The ending however people hate the fact Ellie didn’t kill Abby but in all fairness she tried her ass off to do so the first time and the second time . I was kind of upset that Ellie still wanted to kill Abby even after finding her half dead malnourished on a beach it’s like you still wanna kill her after seeing her like this you are obsessed this isn’t healthy just let it go . Ellie was so obsessed with her quest of revenge that she was willing to ruin everything around her . And the reason she gave up on killing Abby after one hell of a brutal violent battle is because she realized it was kind of like she was fighting her self for never forgiving joel she saw the good in Abby the fact that she was also helping a child survive and escape . It Reminded Ellie of her and joel and when joel flashed into her head which caused her to break down and cry and let Abby go . It was like that was a sign of hey Ellie just let her go killing her won’t bring me back and if you kill her you will just be like her no remorse no mercy. Through out the game you realize killing people had taken its mental toll on you where as for Abby she didn’t care . Ellie realized she was a good person ya she went down a dark path to find that out but she eventually realized I’m better then this all this has done is cause you to suffer and everyone around you , you are suffering mentally you are unhappy just let go it’s ok. Let her go move on and have a normal life . People tend not to like this because all they feel is hate for Abby trust me I hated Abby but she was on a quest for revenge like Ellie where she succeeded Ellie didn’t because ellie realized she would be a better person if she just let go she let go of joel she forgave her self for never forgiving joel which are her up inside and she forgave Abby . Moral of the story revenge never solves anything you become obsessed and it hurts you and everyone around you and if you don’t break that cycle someone else will then come after to kill you. Ellie did the right thing by ending the cycle. But I think it also would have been the right thing to kill Abby as well lol I would have liked either endings . This ending was just. Taking the high road and there is nothing wrong with that . 8/10 because you killed joel and because you play as Abby for to long . Expand

This story wants you to hate Abby. You are meant to feel the way you feel when you play as her. The entire experience playing as Ellie and then Abby is meant to teach you that revenge and payback are, at the end of the day, not going to solve anything. If this sequel was just a simple revenge story of Ellie killing someone who took something from her, the reviews would be on average a lot higher, but the story would be a lot shallower. I would encourage anyone who has had a negative experience to come back to this game after they've had a break and replay the story, this time without the weight of expectation. Understanding the point of the game is the key to enjoying it (much like any movie that requires a 2nd viewing to fully 'get it)'. My only criticism of the game is that the sequel fails to bring much in the way of new gameplay mechanics eg. still using bottles and bricks for sound diversion, moving dumpsters etc. I think as a new character(s) it would have been welcomed to have some new skills. The way the story was delivered in this sequel was absolutely pathetic. You made Joel and Tommy look like dumbasses just for the sake of killing Joel (in an even more pathetic way) and introducing your little character Abby. Absolutely no one cared about her, considering there was also no backstory. Also you shoved us down the throat a 12 hour gameplay of her which made people even more upset. And in the end when Ellie had to kill Abby, she just gives up on the idea because revenge is not it? After all the massacre she went trough just to get to her?

Breaks my heart to see this second part. I just wish I could wipe it out of my head and remain with that beautiful picture of the first game. That one was IT!

Whilst I understand much of the criticism of the game from others, I'm giving it a high score because it's still one of the best games on PS4 and even though not all the experimentation with the game structure/plot etc worked perfectly, Naughty Dog were willing to actually experiment! Not to mention all the progressive and accessibility features. It's a gaming milestone.
After finishing the story I was still thinking about the game days later and I'm now enjoying New Game + (the collectables were enjoyable to attempt on my own but missed some).
It's a very engaging game and a worthwhile experience. Even if it doesn't leave you feeling the same way you felt about the first game.
There are some truly great moments and surprises. I felt like I’d played through an epic season like Game of Thrones or something.
I'm hoping part 3 is a redemption story with a more positive ending to tie up a trilogy. That would give this game more meaning.
I was expecting the ending would be that Ellie found Abby had been bit while enslaved and left to die, but when Ellie discovered her, she would notice Abby was showing signs of immunity and would then reconsider her intended actions, leaving some sort of open ending and making me feel like there was a better reason we played over half the game as Abby (other than the interesting but controversial angle this approach resulted in).
In summary, it’s an amazing but controversial game and I’m so glad Naughty Dog took a new and risky approach rather than just delivering “what sells”.

The other main complaint seems to be that it shows you that NPC's that are slaughtered in their thousands have lives and families and you , to quote Bill Munny, "take away everything he's got and everything he's ever gonna have."
There are many other games that allow you kill everything in sight and a few like Sniper Elite even give you an achievement for clearing the map but this like a few other games shows the consequence of your actions.
The 0 star reviews demonstrate that, despite what the ESRB claim, there is a big difference between being 17+ and being mature.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me start out by saying I was all into the story line initially, essentially boiling down to a tale of revenge. It was dark, violent, depressing and I was all for it. I think if anything The Last of Us I and II gave a pretty realistic view that the world is more grey than anything, your choices have consequences and your story isn't always going to end happily. That being said, I felt like this game betrayed you in the end. As I mentioned before, this is a tale of revenge, you go through a lot as Ellie, as soon as Joel dies (his death btw, though I wished was more ceremonious in nature and wished he went out in a better way, I think fits the whole narrative that when your sins catch up to you, you go out in a bad, uncompromising, terrible way. It happens in real life all the time so I had no problems with Joel's death at all...loose giving away of personal info. and all aside). Ellie suffers the sting of revenge, the cost and toll it puts on you to hunt down someone. So you build up all this hate for Abby, feel for Ellie as someone hunting down the person who killed the closest thing to a father that she had and then the game forces you to play as Abby. That's right, flip how you feel about this character immediately and see her side of the story. Well, sorry, I can't and won't do that. I immediately became emotionally unattached to the game. Why would I want to take control of someone who I just spent the majority of the game hating? Someone I really needed to see dead to fulfill this story of revenge. So at the first opportunity to run Abby into Ellie or religious fanatics or infected that I got, I did it. Over and over and over and over and over again, just so I could see her die. I have no desire to understand Abby's side of things. I have no desire to see her humanized because everyone is the hero of their own story. I'm here for the story of Ellie and Joel. I get why Abby did it. She was fully justified in her actions and her reason for revenge, but that doesn't change the fact I want this character dead with every fiber of my being because she took Joel away in such a bad, gruesome way. He deserved better and she deserves to die for it.

The Last of Us II isn't some redemption arc, from the start you're expecting some pretty messed up stuff. I mean, Ellie kills a pregnant chick for god's sake on her path of revenge. This game is not one that ends well, but I would have fully expected the developers and Neil Druckmann to at least give the fans the satisfaction of completing the revenge arc and seeing Abby die by Ellie's hands. BUT NO! ELLIE LETS HER GO! Are you kidding me?! That's how you choose to end this game? Ellie literally has nothing to show for any of this, her path of revenge made her lose everything and everyone in her life. Unbelievable. What was any of this for if you don't kill Abby? Nothing you did, all the loss and suffering means nothing. I can understand all the other decisions of the game if Abby falls to Ellie but because Abby lives it's like I may have just stayed in Jackson, in the settlement and lived out the rest of my days. Honestly if the game was going to let Abby live, it should have given the player the option to spare her life or end it. I know what I would have chosen, without a moment's hesitation...this is for Joel! Drowns Abby. Other than being forced to play as Abby and the horrible ending, everything else about the game is what you loved about the first game. The graphics, music, motion capture...all beautiful. Sure, no new game play exists but what I was here for is the story. The best parts of The Last of Us II are the best parts of The Last of Us, the interactions between Ellie and Joel, though this time it's relegated to cut scenes and movie flashbacks. Don't expect any game play between the two. Which, honestly I wish there were parts early on in the game where they put in clearing out an infected horde or something to get the feeling of Ellie and Joel teaming up and showing some great teamwork but alas, you'll have to get your Ellie and Joel interactions through cut scenes, which they really work, whether it's a happy or sad flashback, their relationship is why you're here to see what happened between them and like the feel of the game, it's very grey. Lost opportunity, wishing things could have been said differently or just made more time before it was too late to do so, all very realistic tones that we can relate with. But I just don't know if any of that, for as great as it was, can over come having to play as Abby and the terrible end. A shame, I think this game really could have been something special. Something that added to this series, but somewhere people lost sight and wanted to be too artsy with it all. You need to follow through on your core fundamentals and in this tale of revenge, you were not given that satisfaction and thus, the story and end means nothing.

I went into this game without seeing the spoilers but also with an expectation that the story was lacking or was to "woke", I finished the game at this point and I was happy to find out this was not true, it takes an unpredictable approach which makes sense in it's universe and for me it really delivered, it forces you to see things from a perspective that you were not ready for and takes changes on a narrative that, for me was a great experience.
In 2020 with so many **** in modern games it's nice that someone is still making good experiences like this.
And just to add a little bit of review detail, the gameplay is good if you liked the 1st one, the graphics are great, the acting in general is top notch, the exploration is a little disappointing (too linear), the game is not without its flaws, but if you miss this experience because of the negativity this game is receiving you are doing a disservice to yourself and if you saw the spoilers before experiencing this, then I feel bad for you.

For me it was totally worth the money, congratulations on a great game.

PS: don't play this without going through the story of the first one, if you don't wanna play the 1st one find a way to watch the story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was so excited to play this game, the first time I've ever been this excited in my life. Just for it to get ruined and to make me want to forget about this game and look for something else to be excited for. (And by the way, I thought the leaks wouldn't be as bad as they were and I was one of those people who got mad whenever someone said the game was bad, and defended it. So this just gives you perspective about how much I cared for this game.) I don't even know where to start. The only good thing about this game is the graphics, the graphics look AMAZING and ran really well on my PS4, which I thought would melt playing this. Now the bad stuff, and oh boy it's a lot. First of all, the overall "revenge" plot is just garbage. By the time I was finished with Nora I wanted to leave Seattle because I thought that is enough. You brutally killed enough WLF and Seraphites to make your message clear that you wanted revenge and did. Secondly, the characters in this game are flawed and your hopes to see development with them is just spat in your face. You can't just kill off characters just like that to try and be "bold". No, people are going to hate that and they do. It shows with these reviews and mine. For example, and perhaps the worst death I've ever seen in a video game, Joel. Naughty Dog thought it would be bold to kill one of the most beloved characters in the whole series too push the revenge narrative. And I should add that Ellie treats Joel like garbage in this game, (except for the flashback of the Museum.) And all Joel does it try to treat her with the upmost respect and Ellie is just a jerk to him. The whole thing where characters die out of nowhere is just a disappointing way to kill people. At least let them have their moment like Henry and Sam in the first game. That was a how you character off, it was heartbreaking and really made you think for awhile after it. With Joel it somewhat made me not sad but angry at how they treated him like garbage. Another example is jesse, I thought he was a okay character but a little mellow and not much personality, but an alright side character. Then for Abby just to kill him like that, all of that development for nothing, he is barely even mentioned for the rest of the game. And oh boy, the part I HATED the most about this game was how you had to play as Abby. NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY AS THE PERSON WHO TORTURED AND KILLED JOEL. And to extend it for 10+ hours?!? I mean come on, everyone I have seen play the game hated the part with Abby. For me, I was bored and hated her so much. The whole time you play as her you know what's going to happen so it's boring and seems like there's no point to even playing as her. The flashback of Abby with her dad and the Firefly hospital is what only should have made it to the game because it gives us the reason Abby wanted to kill Joel. The part where you meet Yara and Lev is just boring, they have no development whatsoever and are static characters. Getting the medical supplies for Yara at the hospital and the boss fight didn't even matter because she gets sprayed with bullets by WLF soldiers. (Another example of trying to be bold and killing people.) Neil Druckmann tried to have a bold and new approach to a game, and it didn't work. I now understand why the game is divisive. My heart hurts just writing this because I waited so long just for it to be ruined. I was looking forward to this for years. I remember how excited I was to learn that I was going to play in Seattle because I live in Washington. The part where I got to Seattle I was just bored. All you do in Seattle is just kill WLF and Seraphites. Lastly, the ending. Oh man this was just horribly executed. You leave your family and basically your kid to go find and kill Abby, but then just to not kill her? Like... what?!? Why? What is even the point of having this in the game? It doesn't make sense. When you come back to the farm after sadly sparing Abby, Dina and her kid is gone. You did all that and lost 2 fingers to lose the only thing you had left. God this game just broke me in a bad way. I know this is bold, but I want there to be a Part 3. And not to just continue the story, but to do this game justice. But the way the reviews are going I highly doubt this will happen. Neil Druckmann if you are reading this, you tarnished my, and MANY others used to be favorite franchise. It breaks my heart so much to wait so long for something so disappointing. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Holy **** I’ve tried my absolute hardest to like this game from every conceivable angle, but it fails in most of its regards. The characters all feel shallow and lifeless husks of their former selves apart from some of the newer ones. They proceed to then be used as plot devices like Joel dying, or the pregnant woman killed by Ellie to demonstrate her “villainy”. The plot is incoherent and has so many writing sins, that it makes young adult novels look like **** Lovecraft in terms of depth and character development. Abby is portrayed as if she is the hero and can do no wrong for most of the game, while everything Ellie does is apparently evil and terrifying. One of the worst parts is that the game forgets its set in an apocalyptic setting and treats everything like its grey in terms of morality, when in reality it’s only evil and selfishness, where everyone does what they can in order to survive. Abby is not a bad character by any means, but her motivation is weak in the setting, and her development is done poorly. Ellie has a complete character shift in here and will do no good, it seems. Joel’s death was absolutely terrible. It is one of the worst examples of an anticlimactic death, and just shows us how much plot armor they give Ellie and Abby. You use this trope in order to show how fearsome an enemy is, or show that there is no hope. It’s not used as solely a plot device in which you forget how a character treats others, and acts like he’s Been their next door neighbor for 20 years. The ending is absolute flaming dog **** There is no depth or anything whatsoever that the fanboys say that there is. It is a cliche that I am tired of seeing in media, especially when the perpetrator gets away with no or barely any punishment. To end this **** essay let’s give ideas on how to improve the ending and the game

    1. Reorganize it. The game could do with Abbys backstory being introduced before Joel’s death.
    2. Have Abby kill Ellie and regret it or viceversa.
    3. Have Ellie shoot Abby in the leg, and leave her, just as she did to Joel.
    4. Introduce a reason for these two to work together in another game.
    5. Make Joel do something other than die.
    6. Remove the sex scene.
    7. Have the side characters be of more importance. I personally enjoyed them and wished to see more.
    8. Show that the apocalypse is still occurring, and have the infected have an impact on the story, probably forcing the two protagonists to work together.

This is a game I have tried so hard to love, but Neil Druckman has has **** over intensely. Bring back the old director, devs, and writers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Я прошёл The Last of Us 2!
Мне кажется у первой The Last of Us не должно быть продолжения, это законченная история.
Вторая часть хороша как отдельная игра, но она ломает то, что было сделано в первой, так что мой ответ - нет, это НЕ достойное продолжение, но при этом хорошая игра, которая, в силу моих предпочтений, смогла меня зацепить!

It’s big, bold, risky, and important. You’ll love it and hate it, and that’s the point. Last class storytelling, insane visuals, and smooth gameplay. It’s an experience you won’t forget. Everything makes complete sense and it’s very fitting, if you let yourself be open to the experience. 10/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played the first game and loved it, so i did my best to avoid and ignore any of the leaks posted recently. I was utterly disappointed in this sequel, complete disregard for the characters and their personalities which were setup in the first game. The story then goes on to ham-fistedly shout about a very basic moral statement 'REVENGE BAD!!'. It continues to shout this all game and tries to end on the same note, despite the main antagonist getting revenge and she's completely fine.

The game tries to make us feel empathy towards various characters in very lazy ways i.e flashbacks. While the flashbacks themselves are some of the most well executed aspects of the game in terms of contained storytelling, they are used in the worst possible way. Hours after a supposedly major character death (whose name i immediately forgot or never even remembered) these flashbacks show up to try and humanise the dead character and try to make the player feel bad for something they've already forgotten about doing.

The game also tries to stress the method of killing these people is so brutal and graphic, as to make Ellie break down at times, despite having just mowed through 100 other people, killing them in just as graphic, if not worse ways. The game tries cheap tricks to compound on this feeling, such as the 'ha, she was pregnant' card like 3 times and the 'how could you kill an animal' card.

As for the controls and gameplay, nobody really plays this game for these aspects, but to put a final nail in this coffin, they suck. Like everything else in the game, its been made to look nice but they are still the same controls from the game 7 years ago. The extend, that i get bored playing it at times. You didn't notice it in part 1, because there were regular story beats, or character interactions to break up the longer stretches between key moments. Here we have very extended stretches, where the character you play, is completely alone, for a long time, so there is nothing to distract you from the poor gameplay.

The only redeeming area of this game for me, is the artwork, both acted and drawn. The world and people in it are animated incredibly well and there are some magnificent panoramic shots. The mo-cap voice acting was also second to none, other than maybe the first game. Just a shame, the phenomenal actors and actresses were given such utter drivel to work with.

    The Good:

    The Bad

    - Slow and boring start. Walking and walking. Wait until the animation ends. Repeat. Typical ND stupid design.
    - Horrible character design.
    - Stupid and non-sense motivation for the story. If the story were better structured, with fewer flashbacks, it might have been more decent. But because of the excessive flashback, it totally break the sense of expectation for me. It's really mediocre.
    - The game tries to be an extension of the first game, but fails miserably.
    - You don't find any other characters, like Bill and Henry, it's like the world of that size is completely empty with other good people trying to survive.
    - The game tries to ignore all the meaning of its own name, putting Ellie's immunity almost oblivious, while creating a narrative for other characters in one of the stupidest ways I've ever seen in a video game.
    - The narrative is a mess. The game tries to justify violence over violence, making you, or at least trying to, become attached to a character, creating justification for your actions - totally unconscionable, considering the nature of the game.
    - Still no infected animals and/or a decent variety of infected

    Conclusion:

The game is still fun to play, but the mess in the story and the direction they went with the game is something that can completely ruin your experience, if you are a big fan of the first game. The first game is all about finding a cure, and you encounter different situations and characters along the way. This game has none of t that, no justification for existing in tha sense. It is just a stage to show how hate and revenge not worth it. Typical. Mess typical.

For a large chunk of the game I forgot Tommy was Joel's younger brother. Tommy's emotions were completely overlooked Expand

And the story... I've played last of us remastered for the first time only 1 month ago, and I remember what great feelings I had ending it. Yes Joel is a jerk killing all those people and the end, but he is our jerk. He goes for it to safe a girl he and we truly began to love and by the way who was not asked permission to be killed. In part 2 they show us how great of a city Jackson is letting people in, how Joel is a good man sacrificing himself to help a stranger, how Ellie feels bad as **** killing people for the sake of revenge in her path. On the opposite they show us what awful decisions wolfes make with all that torture, endless killings, not letting people in. And Abby one of there's best soldiers, even here friend tolled her she is an awful person. On here way she has ZERO regrets for any lives taken and at the beginning she tortures Joel not for the sake of getting iinformation from him but for pleasure. And they want us somehow to understand and show sympathy towards Abby????? I hated every seconds of playing her and then found myself hating the game itself.

Worst £65 I have spent on a game would not play a second time. I bet the second hand games shops will be full of this game soon. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have NEVER written a review for any game before and I definitely pride myself in being a gamer. I played The Last of Us part 1, which I understand why people may hold part 2 to a higher standard.

However. The last of us 2 was a masterpiece. I laughed, I cried, I felt anger, but more importantly the story was fascinating to watch. I'm not sure why people are hopping on the same train and critiszing the game but in my opinion it's clear to see it's because of the main female lead or #LGBTQ+ incorporation. Which either way doesn't take away form the fantastic game that it is. WOW. I was completely mind blown.

There were times my mouth hit the floor, times I cried with Ellie, but I believe even the ending was perfect. It may not have been the ending many have wanted, but I felt that the story GRANTED that ending. Seeing Abby depleted on the cross--wow. That was a speechless moment. I hope you give the real fans a sequel. Because as a fan of RPG's and post-apocalyptic games like Resident Evil (I've played every one) I have to say that The Last of Us pretty much did a better post-apocalyptic game than they did!!!

A total masterpiece. I laughed, gasped, screamed and cried. Fantastic layered story that will repeatedly leave you shocked and guessing until the end (provided you haven’t had the game ruined for you by people trying to spoil it for others). Could not recommend this game more. Went into new game+ as soon as I finished it and the story has stuck in my mind ever since completion.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I simply didn't enjoy playing as Abby, so for around 5-6 hours I painfully aware of how, in her section, the game was force feeding me background to try make me like her and feel bad for her as a character. Her section of the game came off as forced and it was simply poor story telling. It was also a stupid idea to have us play as Abby in a boss fight and sparing Abby in the conclusion made no sense in the context of the rest of the game and was very unsatisfactory, not to mention infuriating. The game still had undeniably good gameplay until it got a bit repetitive, and the audio, gore, and graphics, made me really enjoy the first 10ish hours. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a game. I just finished it and felt compelled to write my first ever review on here, due to the review bombing I have been hearing about. The Last of Us Part II is an emotional rollercoaster. Things happen that you wish didn’t, characters make heartbreaking decisions that inevitably have tragic consequences. A lot of fans seem to be mad about the story. Unfortunately in life, and it seems in post-apocalyptic futures, things are complicated. We all have our own goals and ambitions, and sometimes this can lead to conflict with others. This game wonderfully illustrates that just because we might dislike someone we’re not necessarily better than them or more right. I personally loved playing as Abby and seeing events from her perspective. As her section progressed I began to see her as right and Ellie as wrong. I didn’t know who to root for at the end. And the writers deserve a huge amount of credit for that. The game is visually stunning. The world they have built over at Naughty Dog is nothing short of miraculous. The gameplay is fine, although sometimes I found my NPC allies getting in the way a bit. Some of the fights are incredibly intense. In general I’m a sneak and kill player, as you have to be at times in this world to look after your resources. But there are certain fights you can’t avoid. The sequence in the lower floors of the hospital were truly terrifying, but completely exhilarating. The kind of gameplay that you can’t wait to finish but then instantly want to have a go at again once you’ve done it. To wrap up, if you’re mad about the story then you’ve missed the point in my opinion. Ellie and Joel are not saints. They’ve done some terrible things to survive. Same goes for Abby. She is no worse than them, and they are no better than her. And if it’s the LGBT stuff or the abundance of non-white characters in the game that has angered you, then it’s about time you joined the rest of us in the 21st Century. I thought Lev’s storyline in particular was fantastic. No if you excuse me, I need a lie down before my next play through! Expand

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
