A deep and thoughtful game that left me thinking for days about the gravity of the themes and ideas that underpin the story. Truly an exceptional example of context and empathy to very human problems stretched to extremes. It also looks and sounds incredible. To be harsh it did draw out the middle section slightly but the pay off at the end was more than worth it.

I just want to start this review by saying it not a perfect 10 BUT this game is the closest I have personally come to being so immersed in a video game world. As a parent this game (especially the ending) hit me a lot harder than I initially expected, I'm not afraid to admit the game had me crying on multiple points. This is a true masterpiece in story telling and and world design. When we watch something like G.O.T or Breaking Bad we remember the ending and the journey that took us there. The last of us part 2 still has me thinking about the powerful ending and the journey starting from the last of us 1 that led me there. The questionable decisions the characters are forced to partake in and the consequences for their actions will forever be engraved in my memory and I don't plan on losing those memories for the rest of my life. This game is no longer just a game that I was personally more hyped for than anything (including cyberpunk), this is now a part of my life, a part of my history and it feels like a piece of me is missing whenever I finish and have to realise this may be the last we see of Ellies journey, our journey together. Playing this game was like talking to an old friend you haven't seen in years. The story was fresh and full of surprises. The different dynamics of the story reinforced the characters and made them feel real. I truly appreciate how well the characters are written out whether they are friend or foe. The emotions that we the player are able to attach to certain characters are tossed back in forth in a battle of morals. I feel like this game forces me to question my own morals as more and more perspectives are tasked upon me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I honestly enjoyed the sequel as much as the first one. Naughty Dog didn’t play it safe when writing the storyline. Yeah it was upsetting that Joel was killed and I wasn’t a fan of Abby through much of the game even while playing her. And yeah I might have let her die a time or ten when I didn’t have to, but it made me feel a little better. I watched as Abby tried to redeem herself by helping Yara and Lev. And I watched as Ellie became darker in her quest for revenge. The last fight between Ellie and Abby is downright brutal. In my opinion, Abby was the winner in the end. Abby and Lev leave the resort together while Ellie finds she she no home to go back to. The only reason I left a point off is because Naughty Dog should have put in a cut scene when Ellie successfully releases the first runner at the Resort to wreak havoc on the Rattlers. You can hear the screams, groans and gun shots, but it would have been better if you could have watched it all. I sincerely hope that Naughty Dog makes a part 3. If they do, I hope they don’t try to play it safe to try to appease some of the fans. By the way, anyone that thinks the whole lesbian and transgender business should have been left out of the game...grow up. You have no problem with characters getting hung, gutted, burned or riddled with bullets, but anything having to do with LGBT and you get squeamish. That says more about you then the game itself. Just except the fact that your a bigot and move on with your life. You should just play it safe and stick with nintendo games. Expand

Lets start off simply. This game is split between people who love it for simply being another installment in the Last of Us and people who hate it for its story. I would like to say this: if you go into any game with any pre-determined thoughts, you will tend to have that experience regardless of how the game actually performs. As with anything in life.

With that said, I saw the critic reviews of 10/10 and 5 stars, etc. I also saw the audience saying this game would be awful after the plot leaks. Those who read the leaks, learned of a big motive for the story, and instantly begun hating the game for it. This is the problem with spoilers. They ruin things for people.

I was able to avoid the spoilers and went into this game expecting something good, but was weary and open-minded.

I chose to write without spoilers, as the point of a review is to inform someone if they purchase something or not. This game is a purchase in my opinion. The sound and graphics are amazing, as to be expected with a Naughty Dog game. One thing a lot of reviews seem to miss, is the level of detail though. They do not go into the amount of detail. The world is very immersive and the music fits incredibly well. The combat is hard if you do not loot. The game attempts to will you into exploration and you find things you would not expect. Not weapons and ammo, but the stories of people who lived in the areas you loot. The benefits of this pay off, and you can get good gear.

Even more so, the combat is very intense. It is violent. Very violent. However, that is the point of this game. To put emotion behind killing. Players are used to killing hundreds of enemies across multiple games without a thought to it. That is the point of this game and the message trying to be told. Violence, in any capacity, is violent. When you kill an enemy, others will cry out their name. Sometimes after landing a shot, the enemy collapses to the floor and screams until they die. This is very different from any game I have played. It tries to make you realize you are actually killing someone. Not some nobody, but somebody.

The story is not perfect. There was no way to really make a sequel to the first game perfect, as the Last of Us was a perfect game and did not need a sequel. I understand that the Naughty Dog wanted to make a sequel, mainly for money, but also to simply make another game. The story is good for what it is. It is emotional, and those who say moments don't matter, are simply detached from the story.

This game is best played in a setting where you can focus on it. It is best played when you are not trying to relax. It is more of an art project then a game for that matter. Last of Us Part II wants you to feel emotional during the game and tries desperately to achieve that. It works at times but also doesn't.

The game attempts to show you the level of emotion behind people. It tries to show you that despite all the enemies you encounter, they all always have a reason for what they are doing. That, they might not actually be bad. The only real "bad guys" are the undead, and they aren't focused on as much for that reason.

All in all, I think this game takes a lot to understand. You have to be willing to accept things for what they are and role with the game. Make a judgement on it once you are all the way through it, not at the start or middle, but at the complete end.

This game is good and I would recommend it to others. It is a unique experience in gaming, and there is no other gaming experience like it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The visuals are beautiful it’s almost even impossible to think a PS4 could possibly offer us that kind of graphics. It’s just amazing. The storytelling is kinda overwhelming, not perfect but not completely sucks, being all honest here, we need to see the point of the story with a different point of view, it is not a cliche, sadly people always want the thing the way they prefer. It’s always good to be out of our comfort zone, to be amazed by another type of plot-twist. We are not forced to empathize with the characters (we are forced to play as them, and that’s a complete different thing) we decide to feel or not empathy. Whatever our decision is, the finale wants you to understand that you are not forced to forgive to heal. It matters how much you suffered, but you may choose what you think is better for you and in this case we decided to be different from the antagonist, we lost everything, just like her. There’s no point in succeed in something we will never be proud of. Expand

Gracias Naugthy Dog..Thank you Naugthy Dog.

I refused to look at any leaks to get a completely blind experience, and it was so worth it. People complain about the story but, in my opinion, it really wasn't bad. it was different than the first Last of Us experience, but it was still faithful to the raw, gritty story they tell. Some of the characters were rather bland in my opinion (Mel, Dina could've used more character progression too, especially for how important she was to Ellie), but Abby in particular was garbage in my eyes until i got to see other sides of her that you wouldn't expect to see. You learn that she is a human with complex emotions (not just some cold murderer), she's capable of being kind and showing compassion, you can tell she's changed by the end and so has Ellie. It was important to play as Abby, despite what people say, to understand her motivations behind killing Joel. The murder was not unfounded.(although it was rather uncharacteristic of Joel to let his guard down like that) This, I believe was done with the means of adding depth to the decision and let the player see insight into this new character. The story, like the first one shows growth in characters that make the Last of Us so special. The final fight between Ellie and Abby at the beach had me at the edge of my seat, I could feel my heart race in anticipation for the outcome. My only wish is that we could've seen more into the Seraphite's story and what they believe, how the war between them and the WLFs started...etc. Definitely wished Naughty Dog included one of their holy scripts for us to look at as an optional artifact (unless they did and i missed it.)

You will not like this game if you're homophobic, or transphobic. However, contrary to many's misguided beliefs, the story is not about a "LGBT agenda" but is rather about revenge.

Gameplay was fun too, was like the first game but improved. It sucked that when you switch over and play as Abby your skills and weapons reset but at the same time you get different stuff for your load-out which gives some more variety to the game.

9/10 one point deducted due to some character blandness, and some out of character moments for Joel and honestly Ellie.

The gameplay is pretty much the same as the first installment, so I personally was satisfied with it. I think the fact I went into this game wanting to hate it made it that much better. I was glad I gave it a chance. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved it.
It looks amazing, it feels amazing and the story is very good. I loved Joel but let me say this, he was a selfish and heavily flawed person. Did he deserve to die? Absolutely. Did I want him to die? No, but I understand that his actions and decisions lead him to this point and got himself killed. To me it didn't seem a cheap plot device. What's that? He would never do that and introduce himself to strangers? How tf do you know that? In a post apocalyptic world, where you've been chased by infected, you stumbled upon a living being who helped you and your brother escape, gave you shelter, and they clearly outnumber you so being hostile is not an option, you wouldn't want to be decent and help out? You guys are idiots. Joel started in the first game as cold and distant with Ellie being an optimistic, happy and warm person. By the end of the game, and beginning of the 2nd one they have changed. Ellie turned cold because of the things they went through and because she lost her meaning of life, and Joel grew to Ellie who he'd see as a daughter and would do anything to make happy. This is character development. They are changed by their actions. The Ellie and Abby part - you know what? Overall Abby is a better person that Ellie.

Abby killed Joel because he killed her father. What did Ellie do? Kill all her friends on her quest to avenge Joel whilst putting all her own friends in danger and abandoning them. She had a peaceful life with Dina by the end, but she blew it because she wanted to go back to find and kill Abby, and so she rightfully was abandoned by Dina. But Ellie also changed as a person as did Abby.
And that is what I loved. Ellie realised that the whole revenge theme would just endlessly go around in circles unless someone put an end to it and she did. She stopped the cycle of killings. You will say that this decision wasn't in her character and I will argue that it was. After she killed Mel and Owen something flipped in her mind. Ever since that incident she seemed unsure. She didn't pursue Abby when they finally found eachother. She started a new life with Dina but needed a push from Tommy to make her change her mind and find Abby again. Then when she finds her, she doesn't just kill her while she is strapped to that pole but instead cuts her loose only to be pushed again by flashbacks to challenge Abby once more until she realizes that this would only lead to more revenge. That is character development. She struggles and changes as a person. Do I feel bad for her at the end for losing everything? Yes. But she deserved it. What about Abby? I liked the idea of playing from her perspective even if we hated her for killing Joel. She had a good reason and I already explained that Joel wasn't a saint and he clearly had it coming. We see her develop just as Joel did in the first game. She goes from a vengeful and cold person with the reputation of one of the most fierce Scars killers, to a protective sibling figure to two fugitive children. She goes out of her way to help them knowing that she might get in trouble with her group and Issac.
In Santa Barbara we see a changed optimistic, and by the end fed up with all the violence Abby. Even when she can barely stand up on her feet she still cares for and protects Lev. If this isn't character development then I don't know what is..

This was their story not ours. We were merely spectators of their journeys that's why we didn't get to decide whether Abby dies or not. And I am grateful for that. I am subtracting one point for the discontinued feeling it gave me when we shift to the scenes from the farm after they parted ways with Abby and because the looting and stealth kills were a bit repetitive. Other than that it's a 9 from me.

You gotta see the characters as they are. I get it that you loved the Joel and Ellie dynamic but just because your favourite character dies it doesn't mean that you have to run around stomping and crying like little b*itches because you didn't get the candy you wanted. Life sucks, and it doesn't always go our way. In life we get what we deserve and if a game wants to portray realistic scenarios then they have to do exactly that. Disappointment, loss, betrayal, sadness these are all bound to happen in a post apocalyptic world. Just because you don't like the decisions Druckmann took doesn't mean they're bad. Try to be objective instead of being as**ole crybabies.

I will begin with these words: this game worths its money (I made a pre-order) and all of my expectations were met.
From the very beginning, you can see that developers loved what they were doing. The proofs for this statement are all the tiny details which they made: starting from the backpacks which are slide on the characters' backs while they are moving and ending with the small pieces of glass which stay on the windowsill when you break the glass and then the character can swipe these tiny pieces from the windowsill while jumping over it. I can hardly remember any other game which has such a detailing.
The game itself is pretty long. It took me 30 hours to accomplish the game but I tried to explore every corner, every small location, also I was reading all the notes I found and tried to open all the vaults. These actions took some extra time but I really enjoyed it and it helped to improve the vibe of this post-apocalyptic world. I really enjoyed some of the new game mechanics such as in the moment when you are given a map and you should explore a pretty big location and mark the places which you visited and what you found. Talking about locations, the thing which I noticed pretty soon is that the game itself became bigger than the first part. I really liked this fact because I loved exploring locations in the first game and here I did it too. Especially because the graphics in the game is really amazing even on my PS 4 slim. Also, I really enjoyed the atmosphere which makes you scared pretty often and keeps you on your toes.
Talking about plot, it turned to be very touching for me and I got some ideas to think about. For me, it is not worse than in the first game, although, I think that not all people can enjoy it so much as I did. Many people scream out about that fact there are no such relationships like between Joel and Ellie in the first game which were the core of the atmosphere. Yes, there is almost no such relationships (except the flashback scenes) but I, actually, respect developer for that. They could do just a copy of the first game because they know that idea if the first game works and people love it but in this case, we would have a situation like with the new Star Wars movies. I mean the 7th episode is a plot copy of the 4th episode. The 7th episode was made just to attract new people. Developers of TLOU could do the same but they didn't. I respect them for their bravery.
However, the game has some drawbacks too. Firstly, I noticed that many people talk about stupid AI. Alas, it's often true. For example, I was sitting around the corner and when an enemy comes close to me I can silently kill him but then another one spots his body and comes close too me too and I kill him too in the same way. Once I killed 4 enemies in this way. It breaks the atmosphere a lttile bit. However, enemies often make you afraid of them and you try to go through them quietly, what is more, I've just talked about is not familiar with the infected.
The second disadvantage is that stealth mechanics haven't changed significantly since the first game. You still бщыедн just pick up bottles and bricks to attract enemies' attention. The differences are only the facts that now you can crawl and hide under cars and can craft silencer for the gun. When you making such a big game which is supposed to change the game industry you should add more new mechanics. However, the physics of the guns themselves became much better.
The third con is about LGBT. I'm not familiar with homophobia and stuff and I respect such people but I don't like when it's aggressively promoted and in this game, it's obvious that it was added, just because they were asked for that. Nowadays just if you don't include an LGBT topic you will be accused in "homophobia" and they decided to follow the "rules" and no to "oppress" anybody. They made some brave decisions but in this case, they failed, in my view
In conclusion, I love this game. It's a decent continuation of our beloved story and developers did such great work. However, I can's score 10 because of the cons I found but I still consider this game a masterpiece.
Dear Developers, I can't even imagine how difficult it was to create this game how nervous your were. I'm sure that you felt responsible for this game as almost everyone considered the first game a masterpiece and you had to do something better than it. It's difficult to imagine how many problems you've got during the development including problems with family and health. It's obvious that the game was developed under big pressure. Non or the less, you did it! I want to thank you for that and let you know that time goes and the attitude to the game will improve in the future. Thank you one more time from a gut from a small Russian province town!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics:
Days gone and death stranding were both were beautiful and detailed. The last of us 2 is easily on par with these games if not exceeding them. An extensive amount of detail on all the scenery, facial expressions are unreal, interaction with the environment (footsteps on sand and snow, walking through grass) was brilliant including the fire and water.

    Sound:
From knocking something onto the floor, smashing glass, the ai interactions, shooting, voice acting and many more instances of how the sound in this game was able to capture the real sounds in an environment was stunning.

    Game play:
Those complaining about the game play being the same as the previous and not improving it has got me baffled. Were they expecting it to become a first person shooter? For there to be magic spells introduced? or what? It's crazy to have a go at the game play because they think every game should be completely different to previous title. Do people go into the next call of duty and get upset when the game play is still the same, of course not, these people are grasping at straws.
The other issue people have is the supposed repetitiveness (get through enemies/infected to get to a cut scene and repeat). Again this is nonsense. If you break down any game including the first TLOU you can make it sound boring and repetitive. In the first one you either avoid/kill infected and other people and then move to the next part, then repeat until you hit a cut scene then it starts again.... see??? Any first person shooter is kill people, get to a cut scene then repeat for 20 hours, so it is a ridiculous complaint when you are ignoring all the things that ARE involved. So that being said this game has a lot of variety. Heaps of different weapons, riding through live action environments while shooting, driving through environments, stealth scenes, small puzzles, boss fights, exploring and collecting resources, shooting off limbs and blowing up bodies, and the best part of this game is the melee fighting which contains heaps of different combinations of how to kill an enemy in gruesome ways. You can pull faces in a mirror while playing as Ellie which was entertaining. I also recommend playing the game on normal or easy since it will definitely help open up the game so you don't have to stealth kill everyone which enables you to use your weapons and enjoy the melee combat.

    the infamous story:
Ill address the first issue people have in regards to Joel dying and how he got in that situation. It is definitely believable (no matter what people say). One, he is human and could have just made a mistake but it is clear Joel has mellowed since being with Ellie, they were stuck in a storm with hundreds of infected around and he just saved Abbey's life (it also clear how they bumped into each other. On a flashback she mentioned that she had a lead on Tommy so she was always going to be in the vicinity of Joel). Now he just saved her life and was stuck with very little options since there was a storm and the amount of infected around. Either he stays there and dies or he trusts THE PERSON HE SAVED, so he goes with her. As for them stating their names, they only said their first names and had no reason not to at least say that much because of the circumstance they were in (I'm of the belief that Abbey knew who they were straight away anyway). If Abbey just shot him when his back was turned after being rescued, would the complainers be content since that doesn't hinder joel's "survival character aspects", of course not. They're just pissed that what THEY would do and what the game does is different (ending included). Now him getting killed in such brutal fashion was again understandable, were people expecting him to to get a 21 gun salute and some sort of posh death? come on.... its an apocalyptic world and Abbey just spent 4 years looking for the one who killed her father, destroyed the fireflies and the cure for humanity.

No agenda: Ellie being a lesbian (clear from dlc so no surprise), only one mention of bigot, Abbey wasn't trans but lev didn't need to be a girl trying to be a boy i'll say that and the sex scenes didn't add anything to the game.

The revenge story makes total sense as well. Joel protected Ellie like a father so no issues with his actions but there are consequences when you kill innocent people and doom humanity.

Ending makes total sense and those who say Ellie killed everyone to get to the end, most of the killing was in self defence when trying to get info on abbey.
    Reasons she Didnt kill for:
    1. Realised her and abbey are doing exactly the same thing so they are more alike then she thought.
    2. Even if she killed abbey, Joel will still be gone
    3. Abbey let Ellie live TWICE including DINA when she could have killed her to get even with how Mel died.
    4. Joel actually deserved what he got cause if the roles were switched Ellie would be hunting Joel as well
    5. Forgiving Abby was her way of forgiving Joel

Would give 8.5 if I could. I personally liked the direction the story went, but they perhaps tried to squeeze a bit too much story in, which doesn’t lend itself well to the pacing issues. OtherWould give 8.5 if I could. Other than that, it plays wonderfully; the combat has been massively streamlined since the first game, where I often felt the combat was a bit of a chore. Obviously the game looks great, and the acting is top notch. While the first game focused on the relationships between a small handful of characters, Part 2 explores the wider world of The Last of Us, giving the player an interesting insight into how the rest of the country is coping (or not...). This is occasionally a detriment to character development, as we are introduced to so many new faces, but nonetheless I found the overarching story to be an enthralling rollercoaster of a journey. While it can’t quite match the simplicity and intimacy of the first game, it succeeds in telling a challenging story, and opens up a world of possibilities as far as any potential sequel is concerned. But to me personally it's the gritty side of this game what makes it a piece of art, and not just a game. A few points of criticism. If you look around a bit too long, the characters will help you in the right direction too quickly. I prefer to sort things out myself. You can turn off the hints, but even then you're taken by the hand too much. The companion is also getting in your way too much. If you're in cover for example, they often take the same place, pushing you out of cover.
I don't give it a 10, because no game is perfect. Although I should do it to respond to all negative reviews. But I give it a fair 9, which it really deserves in my opinion.
My advice, stop reading reviews and play the game yourself. I am convinced whether you like the story or not, the game world, with all its details, alone is more than worth it.

Despite this problem, Naughty Dog got it right again by changing standards, establishing new characters, and creating a storyline as engaging as the first game. Another point is that yes, TLOU Part II discusses topics such as LGBT +, religious, political fanaticism and that is what makes it so real and so current. The story takes some bold twists and decisions that can be a bit hit or miss but its still a pretty good story played by some great actor who are doing their best to bring these great characters to live. This story makes you experience different perspectives and makes you feel so many emotions to the point were you don't even know who's right and who's wrong.
i haven't been so engaged by a video game story in a long time.

The story got me just the way the developers were aiming for. I was so emotionally invested that the final fight was a real struggle. I pressed the button even tho I just wanted them to stop fighting. It took me a while to understand Ellies decision to setting out for Abby again and leaving her family behind. Graphics and the subtle facial animations were some of the best I've seen in videogames so far. My only complaint and the reason I give 9 instead of the full 10 points are the lengths in the second part. I was so tired of the landmarks in the distance...

В плане геймплея это тот же the last of us только с нововедениями.

The passion and emotion put into the performance pushed players to expect MORE from a video games story and gaming in general. Naughty Dog has always pushed the boundaries in everything they’ve done, and while that means more high flying action coming from the Uncharted series, it means more heart wrenching moments for the Last of Us. The one thing I can tell people going into this is that Naughty Dog is not trying to appease you, they are trying to tell a story. A very good one at that. Characters will do things you don’t agree with and things will happen that will make you sad. It will make you question “Good vs. Evil”. It will make you think. Which is exactly what a good story should do. There’s so much hate surrounding this beautiful title that I needed to submit my own review. It just confuses me how people can love Game of Thrones for its brutal treatment of its characters and then hate this.
Graphics: Continues to impress. I had to stop and look at the environment more times then I’d like to admit. A beautiful recreation of apocalypse Seattle should floor any graphics buff.
Voice Acting: stellar performances from Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey will send shivers down your spine.
Gameplay: while expanding on the first game by adding going prone and more methods of traversal, my one gripe with the game is that at some encounters it would feel clunky. Quite a few frustrating moments were had when Ellie wouldn’t climb over something or would get stuck.

Last of Us Part II builds upon everything that made the first title a gem of the PlayStation 3. The story telling may not be to everyone's taste as some narrative beats can miss the mark but the gameplay is incredibly satisfying and the quality of the performances and attention to detail is second to none.

A must play for any PlayStation 4 owner.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, English isn't my first language so please don't be that strict with my use of words.
I really don't understand how the user rating have got a such insulting low score. I would guess most of the people who are hating haven't even played the game and just watched the leaked cut scenes or a let's play of it.

Anyways, I don't think we have to talk about the graphics. The game just looks beautiful, especially the light, the spores the water, the wet clothes and so on.
The soundtrack and in general the sounds are really on point as well.
The game design is good too. The combination of stealth, fighting and discovering is well done and there are a lot of secret dialogs and cut scenes which are all optional. Now to the probably most controversial part.
The story is in my opinion also really great. The game tells a story about hate and the urge of revenge and where hate leads you. I loved playing the flashbacks where you really could see how the relationship between Joel and Ellie (or Abby and her dad) went on after the “open end” in the first part. I also loved playing as Abby because there you realized for the first time that from her point of view, all she has done made sense. She isn't the stereotypical villan. She even helped Lev and Yara, even though she didn't have to. She is just a girl who has lost her dad in a pretty **** up world. When you played her, you realized that Ellie isn't really different from Abby. Abby lost her dad and wanted revenge, so she killed Joel. Not Ellie or Tommy, just Joel. Ellie than lost her father figure and also wanted revenge. So she chased the group of people who has done it. There is also some beautiful character development when Ellie realized what she just had done and started crying and her hands started shaking intensively. Then, when Abby finds Owen and Mel dead, it's also just a beautifully made moment when she goes down on her knees, crying and vomiting. What she does after this also just made sense from her point of view. The only reason I'm giving only 9/10 is the decision Ellie makes after she lives with Dina and JJ on the farm: why would she leave the woman she loves and a child she loves just to finally kill Abby even though she already said she doesn't want to go after her again. But if you ignore this one mistake in the story, it all makes sense. After she cuts Abby down from the pole she realized that Abby really cared about Lev and that she is also just a person in this **** up world who wants to be happy with her friends/family. Only because she had a "flashback" of Joel dying, Ellie choose to fight Abby, but in the end she couldn't kill her because she realised how "human" she also is.
From their own point of view, the other ones are the bad guys while they just want to survive with their friend but in the end, they're all the same.

It makes sense that ellie was mad a joel but at the end they give closure in a way ellie leaving the guitar means she forgives joel and the last cut scene with joel and ellie the last conversation they had, i had tears in my eyes. Ellie not killing abby just means ellie wants the endless cycle of revenge to end, she cant do it anymore. Do you see the parallels from the end of this game and the end of the first one? Abby is like joel and lev is like ellie all she wanted to do is save lev. This game really made me feel emotional and that’s something i wanted. I wanted to feel conflicted. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think the story didn't please everyone because everyone kinda wanted a happy ending or something that they would expect. On the contrary, even though the ending is sad and unbearable to the point I have nightmares, i totally love it. it made me think. which I think is good. The choices Ellie's choose to make were very characteristic to the human being. She couldn't free herself from the burden and the loss of her adoptive father. Obviously if you think ln a objective view, you would think her choice were dumb and that should have let it go, which I agree! But that's her story and we gotta understand that that is her point of view and that we can't just put our-self in the place of Ellie.

Remember when Joel saved Ellie from the Hospital, you were all agreeing that killing a doctor for selfish purpose was ok. Abby seeked revenge, Ellie seeked revenge too. It's human. It's just retribution.

On another note, I think the staff really made a good work, such as the way they wanted the game to be played. Like the intro with Abby, then Ellie for the revenge, and then the 2nd part with Abby point of view, to finally with Ellie again.

Final note : 9/10, love the story

I have to confess that the first night after the game I was full of thoughts and could hardly sleep.
I understand the frustration of many players about the story because it doesn't work for everyone. You have to bring a good dose of empathy and reflection with you to accept the intended change of perspective. I am glad that it worked for me and in the end didn't hate or prefer anyone.

But now for the review: The gameplay is known from the last part and has been improved by a few nuances. So if you found TloU 1 good, you will also enjoy it here. The graphics are probably the zenith of the Playstation 4 era, but the depth of detail is very outstanding and makes every place look organic and real. The sound is phenomenal and sometimes makes you shudder. Animations are the best I've seen so far. Rarely is a movement unnatural and all animations fit together.
The AI is probably the weakest point of the game and sometimes made a fight too easy for me. However, I had 2 places in the game where I really noticed the AI negatively. Most of the time, the AI is more challenging than in the last part.
In contrast to the first part, the story is more tragic and melcholic with little room for hope. However, it is also authentic and well written.

All in all, I really liked the game and I would be very happy if we get a third part. And maybe this time with hope as a theme.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will agree that i was NOT enjoying Abby's storyline for the first 1hr and half...but i also was tired as hell and angry that i was forced to play this side of the story because i was so sure it was going to feel SO FORCED on me. Like Naughty dog was screaming "PLEASE LIKE HER". Long story short, i started to actually like her from the lev and Abby go to hospital part and from then on i liked her. If you didn't like her at all, that means your still hanging on to the anger you felt when Joel was killed, and thats okay of course, no one is saying if you didn't like her that means you're a bigoted sexist **** or sum stupid **** like that. That only tells me how much you loved Joel and tbh that makes me like you even more because he's one of my favourite characters of all time. The only difference here is the game is showing Ellie and Abby ridding themselves of their anger to have found clarity, I'll get into clarity later. Now the point where i thought it was ABSOLUTELY GENIUS was where it is Abby vs Ellie and you play as Abby after killing Jesse AND Tommy (Supposedly) so then I'm feeling anger going " What the **** am i doing playing as her right now" and your main objective is to kill ellie. At this point i couldn't get enough, this game was forcing me to do something i didn't want to do and made me feel more conflicted than i ever have while playing a game Mind you i don't really feel emotional during games. I couldn't give less of a **** when Sarah died so the fact that the game was able to elicit this type of response from me was shocking to me and i ****ing loved it. So When it gets down to the last part of the cutscene where Abby breaks Ellie's arm and Dina rushes in and cuts up Abby and Gets shot in the shoulder with an arrow by lev then abby smashes Dina's head against the floor and is about to cut her throat and is told that she is pregnant AND SHE SAYS GOOD...i really felt and understood Abby's anger when i looked at it from her perspective. The symbolism between the 2 stories is SO uncanny. Abby's dad is killed because of JOEL'S decision to save Ellie. Joel Kills a Father. Abby's revenge story starts. Obsessive behaviour ensues, She tracks him down and kills Joel. Abby kills a father. Gets most of her friends killed because of this decision. Ellie's revenge story starts. Obsessive behaviour ensues. Ellie kills a Mother AND a Father. It deteriorates the relationships she has with her friends that ends up with them killed or leaving her. These points all started because of Joel's LOVE for Ellie. Ellie's revenge is sparked from her love for Joel. Abby's revenge is sparked from her love for her dad. Abby carrying Lev literally mirrors Joel carrying Ellie out of the hospital to the point of lev postioning her arm out like ellie's in part 1. ABBY'S DAD is WILLING to let the surgery happen, ELLIE'S DAD is REFUSING to let the surgery happen. Abby sees LEV and SPARES Dina, Ellie sees JOEL and SPARES Abby. These 2 stories are exactly the same thing...2 sides of the same coin. It ultimately all leads back to Joel, One person LOVES joel, one person HATES joel... and the lengths they are driven to because of the extreme experience of these 2 emotions results in both of them having lost virtually everything. To be clear, this isn't a "Whoever sees this and still thinks the story is bad is a ****ing dumbass who can't use their brain to understand complex storytelling" this ain't it. We can like different things, and To Me... this story is a masterpiece. Expand

At times this game is a slog and a mess. On the surface it is a simple, occasionally patronising and consistently didactic story about violence and revenge. But look closer and you'll find a groundbreaking odyssey across a broken girl's psyche, a heartbreaking tale of grief, and a staggeringly mature and complex meditation on self-forgiveness.

Those saying this is a perfect game are ignoring its dramatic and structural shortcomings, and the thematic confusion it ties itself in. But those saying it's a disaster have completely missed the point, and I feel never engaged with this story the way it demands. Because it asks a lot from you, empathetically and intellectually, and that's okay. Art can do whatever it likes; artists do not owe 'fans' anything. And if you're not willing to give this story the chance it deserves, that's okay too; similarly, players owe the artists nothing. But I would absolutely recommend trying. Not everything here works, but the bits that do stand as some of the greatest writing and bravest artistry in video game history - especially the ending, which re-contextualises the entire piece and lands like a sledgehammer.

This is a challenging work, the kind you get out of what you put into, and that's not what everyone will be looking for. But after all the pain and frustration and even the stints of boredom, as the credits rolled I was so, so glad I played it. It is an extraordinarily brave and unique piece of art, an audacious script that attempts to wrangle the kind of internal processes that are so seldom written about, and a brutal, tactile video game. In the end it attempts to do too much and ties itself it knots, but that doesn't erase its frequent spots of brilliance. All considered, The Last of Us: Part II is a singular experience that I will never, ever forget.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I rarely do reviews, but for this game I had to write one. For gamers who are looking forward to play this game based on the reviews, I would suggest not to do so otherwise you would be missing out one of the finest games ever.

One observation that I had is how the game's user score kept improving consistently. About a week or so before writing this, the user score was 3.7 and now after 10 days it has improved already to 4.8. This gives an indication how premature those initial negative reviews were. A lot of those reviews might have been made with out even playing/watching the full game. Here's a detailed review for different sections below.

Graphics and visuals: 10/10. Simply can't expect any better than this in current console. Few of the areas looked amazing such as haven, the village, the jungle, the bridge e.t.c.

Gameplay: 8/10. The gameplay is amazing. The stealth aspect is also wonderful. Still I am giving it an 8 because of one reason. That is how the game forces you to play as different characters in the moments of a conflict. For example in the initial fight between Ellie and Abby you are forced to play as Abby and try to kill Ellie. Since by that time Ellie is already such a favorite character, you might not enjoy those few moments.

Level designs: 10/10. To me it has even surpassed the first part. There are many new kinds of infected such as stalker, shamblers, weird new bosses. All that added to the excitement and intensity of these fights.

Story: 8/10. No matter how disappointed you might be after the death of Joel, there is a very good chance you would still like the story for how it is if you go with an open mind about it. Of course, to some people killing Joel in such a way so early in the game would mean end of the game. But to me the story that they put was still good and interesting. I also enjoyed how they organized the whole story telling by switching between characters. One weak point I felt about the story is how easily Abby kills her wolf-mates when she's fighting against them with Levy. Same goes for Yara as well. But of course, desperate times. Despite these the story is still amazing'

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is beautiful in more ways than one. You do have to go into it with an open mind though, or you're doomed from the start. So many people that are team Joel/Ellie just can't seem to fathom that they aren't always right. That actions have consequences. The story is haunting and heartbreaking. I don't understand people saying there are plotholes. Joel has been living in Jackson and trading with strangers for 4 years now, it makes sense than Tommy would introduce the both of them to a group of friends of a woman they just saved. People are being stupidly picky.

I loved the story in a way that you can love something that tears you to shreds. It is in no way a feel good game, at least for me. But it's honest and raw and a different story than one i've ever played. Yes, i'm sorry we lost Joel, but if you knew who Joel was, you could see why he was such a target. I enjoyed getting to know Abby and her life and i understand why she did what she did. In the end both Ellie and Abby lose way more than they gain and that's true in real life as well when people get so utterly focused on revenge.

The game play is beautiful. The new mechanics - going prone, swinging from ropes, breaking glass as new way of entering, new crafting objects, the environment (omg i love ferns and long grass!!!!!). All fun and enjoyable. I plan on enjoying my NG+ and many replays after that. Thank you ND for another great game!!!

Naughty Dog certainly chose to not play it safe and have delivered something that is challenging and in many places profound, although this seems to have been lost on many of the other "reviewers" on this website that have given it a 0 out of 10. Hopefully it should be clear to anyone thinking of buying/playing the game that a 0/10 is not a score that is given by somebody that is thinking critically about their experience but is rather showing that they have an axe to grind (the repeated use of the terms "SJW" and "politically correct" should inform you of the level of intelligence some of these people exibit). After playing the game you will probably find that a great deal of the criticisms levelled at the game's story can be disregarded with a some careful thought and attention payed to the subtle clues that are dropped throughout the 25 to 30 hour experience.

So anyway, with that out out of the way, what do I think about the rest of the game? The graphics are superb. There are multiple environment types and locations, and even though much of the game is set within a ruined overgrown cityscape I felt that the visuals were rarely repetitive. This is a game that is truely stunning to look at.

The combat is (by today's standards) quite basic, but that isn't necessarily a criticism. I found that there were parts that felt unnecessary clunky (the fist-fight "boss" scenes in particular) and were a bit of a chore to get through. On the whole though, the gameplay was fun but occasionally repetitive.

As a hobbyist game programmer myself, I am absolutely astounded at the artistic and technical acomplishment that the individuals working at Naughty Dog have achieved here. I doubt that many of the reviewers giving 0/10 scores (yes I'm still salty about that) have any notion of how much talent and work goes into making a body of work such as this. The game is receiving high praise from game critics though, and I suspect that if we could filter out all of the 0% "review-bombs" from the user score we would find a rating more in line with what the critic's have given.

The only truely negative thing that I will say about this game is that I was disappointed to hear about the levels of stress / "crunch" that the employees of Naughty Dog had to undergo during the making of TLOU2. I'm sure that most of us will agree that this kind of thing leaves an unpleasant mark on what has otherwise been one of the top gaming experiences of the year, and I hope that the "AAA" industry as a whole finds a way to create content like this without causing their workers to seemingly age 50 years in the process.

Anyway, enough of this. I'm about to play the whole damned thing again in New Game plus, and I can't wait.

The gameplay itself is revolutionary, the animations are nearly flawless and the graphics are amazing. Story wise it's not as strong as the first but does an amazing job at making the player feel tense and uncomfortable during the entire story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went through a journey, it frikkin sucked at first. I launched Abby off a cliff every chance I had. But, I got it out of my system, I decided to stick with it, see where this goes. Really sought to understand how the story is unfolding as I played and in the end, I witnessed an edgy, gritty, modern revenge tale told from 2 perspectives, that ticked all the boxes for me. Might I add, the Ellie boss fight was the most incredible feeling I've ever had in gaming. It was hard, she was OP, so I wanted to do my best, but no, my heart was screaming at me, no you can't kill Ellie.. no, just no! How many games just rip you apart like that these days?

I'll still say, TLOU2 is in no way the story I wanted, as a fan of the first outing I still feel disappointed that this franchise isn't a Joel and Ellie team up anymore. However, the more I review the story, the more it clicks into place for me.. with all Joel had done, especially the atrocious act of severing humanity's last chance.. would he really have met a good end? Are we really okay with a happily ever after for him, those were questions I never really had the answers to, even from the first game.

As much as I love the character, he'd done some **** and that's putting it lightly.. If it wasn't Abby, it would have been someone else coming after him. And as a narrative-focused gamer and movie-goer, I appreciate this ballsy decision in the end. If they wanted to just make more money, more sequels, they would have pandered to fans, more and more Joel and Ellie adventures.. TLOU4, or make that 10.. and I wonder if that isn't a worse kind of death for my favourite gaming MCs.

It may be sounding a lil like an ND wank now, so let me clarify.. no, the story wasn't perfect, I don't feel Druckmann is a genius or anything like that. However, objectively.. it was pretty good. For me it was coherent, it had depth and originality, it certainly doesn't deserve the "universally negative reviews" it's getting right now. IMHO that's only happening because if the leak fiasco which has skewed everything. Imagine if someone leaked Empire Strikes Back, back in the day.. there might have been a riot! The reviews would probably be totally different than the love it's enjoying right now, because the audience had to wait to see it to experience the proper "shock".

... to appease the rage of the worst of us (pun intended), the 3-4 year skips is plenty enough room for a TLOU 1.5... could even be covered in the TV series.. One can always dream~ but, if we let viral cancel culture take over here, the IP becomes unprofitable and it's good bye forever...

The games story did an excellent job in bringing out my emotions such as: hate, anger, sadness and shock. "The Last of us part 2" is not a story where everything turns out fine in the end,and you feel happy finishing it. It rather leaves us contemplating the moral decisions we play throughout the game, and if our actions were truly justified.
One of my highlights of the game was how it made me think. There were a lot of moments in the game, where i found myself speechless and made me question my own morals, and how it would reflect if i was in that world. It emphasizes on the fact that there are no "good vs bad" in life, we're all just people trying to survive, but we are also "people" who make questionable decisions and moral choices, and the characters in "The Last of us part 2" are no different from that.
Game play wise, i feel that the gun play is the most unique out of any of "Naughty Dog" game, on how the Guns feel, look and sound realistic. The Guns feel heavy and damaged, contrasting itself to the games characters Themselves. The Stealth feels like the original "Last of us",but with more variety on how i would play with the NPC's, but at the same time more tense. Often found myself contemplating if i should use my supplies i recently found to make a med kit, or to rather make a Molotov. The decisions you make will accompany your play style.
I personally loved the "skill points" in this game, even though it's similar to the original "last of us", the skills are more grounded and avoided what i feel like most games do. Often times with skill points, i feel like you'd buy a skill just to get to another one, and never use the original one you bought. I found myself finding every skill worth using in my first play through.
My only negative in the game is the enemy Variety, throughout my play through, i found myself bored with the enemies. There's only a handful of different human enemies, and they all can virtually be taken out the same way you would a basic enemy with a pistol. The infected, i felt were unfortunately the most boring. Most level designs were runners and clickers, occupying the same space, with the occasional Shambler to make it more tense, and often times left me hoping for more enemy variety which the game lacks on.

"The Last of us Part 2" was an emotional journey, with some of the best game play and story telling i have seen from"Naughty Dog", but unfortunately lacks in enemy variety. it's an amazing game worthy of it's predecessor, and a game that's meant to open conversations about moral choices in life. already looking forward to my next play through.

Don't be fooled into thinking it's a bad game just because a bunch of sheep say it is. This game is a true masterpiece. The storytelling, which I would say is not at all what I was hoping for, is still better than any game I've played in a while. The moment to moment gameplay is also very engaging with each person or infected you kill feeling real and brutal.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
