I get why people are raging against the game. It is different. This game is trying something that by all means takes guts. Naughty Dog has made a very bold move with this game. It's a story not everyone will like and that's ok. It's a harrowing, chilling, emotional story filled with revenge and ultimately forgiveness. It's not a satisfying or happy story but rather one that makes you think about what you've just experienced.

I went into this game completely blind. Didn't watch trailers, no spoilers, no reviews. I play the last of us 1 when it came out and haven't touched it since. I suppose that helped my expectations as I had none, I wasn't banking on certain things or characters being the lead part of the game. I was just along for the ride. The craziest, bleakest of rides.
I think the story is a little jarring at times and sometimes frustrating. But I felt it was bold and creative, I suppose empathy and grief are the main emotions here but also life, innocence and acceptance nearer the end. It's a very personal experience, not for the light hearted.
I was genuinely surprised after I completing it and checking online to see other responses. Didn't quite believe "betrayal and disappointment" that people were posting. But to each their own. I enjoyed it and hope others did too.

You might not agree with the plot, and the all RAW emotions and the revengefulness that fuel the main characters and the ending, but that does not mean it a bad game, it simply means that you don't like games that depict how real life could play out after a cataclysmic event.

But I also saw deep love and real friendship in really bad situations. It makes you question yourself... would you have done differently given the same situation?

My guess why the rating vary so wildly? This game requires a mature view of life that is probably too much to ask of young people today. (I'm 55)

It was one of the best games of this year I think the problem with the low audience score is that audience was overly attached to Joel and were heartbroken to see him gone in the first two hours but his influence still drove the game forward. The Ellie section was great the Abby section was kinda messy but still had some awesome and gut punching moment. The ending was bleak and sad and I loved it Overall I think every one should try the game once before judging it too quickly Expand

The gameplay always keeps you on your feet and ready for more, each encounter you get with the characters is never a dull moment because they can play out in so many different ways and the graphics are absolutely stunning. Although the story isn't liked by many because they killed off joel in the very beginning and then make you play as his killer you start to feel empathy and passion for abby throughout the story especially when she meets lev and yara. That is when she really starts to change, although I can't say the same thing for ellie it is very emotional having to see her go for this quest for revenge and face off against abby after all that you have been through with both characters. The thing I really didnt like though was the ending. Although I'm glad that abby survived I feel like all the things that ellie has done and been through was for nothing. She killed all those people and in the end she cant even kill abby. But other than that this game was an emotional rollercoaster and I never had a dull momment with it. Expand

Everything else however is 10/10 in my eyes from the environments and level design to the graphics and animations. The story is a lot longer than the first game (32 hours for me to complete) but it needs to be as there are a multitude of complex characters, all with their own story to tell and by the end of the game you really feel for each of them in true Naughty Dog fashion. The gameplay and sound/music continue where they left from the first game and really help set the tone for an incredibly dark, gritty and an emotionally exhausting experience.
This game makes you question everything that you thought you already knew. One of the definitive games of the generation and probably of all time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Story:

Let's start chronological with the Prologue. I think the Prologue is the weakest point in the games story. A prologue should introduce the player to the characters and story, sadly this prologue fails to do so. All the new characters stay rather bland, even Dina, besides you spend around an hour with her. Also Abby seems rather bland, while she is not when you play her later, she only hates Joel. Why? Who knows.

So: Joel dies by Abbys Hand. Many people complained that Joel says his name which is out of character with the first game. Yes, this looks like it at first glance, again the prologue fails to explain backgrounds, you only the get puzzle pieces late in the story, like a conflict with Ellie and probable knowledge that a group hunts the both down. I think Joel sacrificed himself to save Ellie, thinking if they got him, they won't chase after Ellie. The last good deed he could do, to make her forgive.

However after the prologue the story gets stronger and stronger. The writing is excellent! You play 3 days as Ellie with Dina and Jesse on your side, searching for Abbys group and then the past 3 days as Abby from her perspective.

You learn all the characters emotions and reasons, though you probably never really agree with their actions. You understand them, but you might not agree with them. This is where the story gets so strong as it organically avoids a black and white thinking. There are no heroes and no bad guys, only humans driven by emotions like hate, revenge, love, sadness etc.

You see both "sides" and you learn to like all the characters. You not agree with their actions sometimes, but you understand... It's really a roller coaster of emotions. Brilliant writing, can't explain it otherwise!

The Epilogue and ending also show how much hate and revenge can destroy you and your relationships. The relationship Ellie built with Dina is destroyed over the fact Ellie can't let loose and have to hunt after Abby again, in the end leaving her alive, like she did in Seattle. Coming home, Dina gone, Ellie lost 2 fingers can't really play guitar anymore, the guitar Joel gifted to her.

Really excellent writing! Prologue a bit weak, some later cutscenes should appear here, but keep going and you get rewarded with an amazing story!

Also if you think there is some agenda here, you didn't understood the story one bit. The game more shows of violence is causing even more violence and how it and revenge and hate can destroy people.

Also Abby is not said nor mentioned to be LGTB. Not sure where this got from, but only because she is muscular, means she is LGTB? I think not.

    Gameplay:

Definitely a huge improvement to the first game. They took the first games gameplay and expanded it. You have more upgrades, more weapons and more possibilities to deal with enemies. Stealth and Combat are better to do, the encounter areas are bigger allowing for more ways and possibilities. Also you can now climb, swim and dive.

While the game at it's core is still a pretty linear game, there is a hub area at the start and in general the levels are bigger as ever before. Encounters go very fluent into each other, while you walk around, explore and try to find the right way to go. Also you should explore to not only get collectibles, but also training manuals, useful items, upgrades and new weapons.

A little downside is, that there are not much differences between Ellie and Abby. They have different weapons, but with exception of 2-3 weapons, they feel the same. Even the upgrades are more or less the same, just in different orders and skill trees. Movement is the same as well.

Nonetheless so far the best Gameplay in a Naughty Dog game and definitely on par with other excellent AAA titles.

    Graphics:

Do i really have to say something here? Amazing Textures, Models, Levels and Animations. Really an eye to detail. It looks gorgeous! Watch a trailer, what you see there, is in the game 1:1.

    Sound / Music:

Perfect as well. Amazing sound design and amazing music tracks, still have a few in my head. Better as the first game as well, the composer really did an amazing job and surpassed his work of the first game!

    In the end:

While the Prologue is the weakest point, The Last of Us Part 2 is an amazing game. The Story is really amazing, no "agenda" to be found, as said, if you see such a thing you didn't understood the story or outright didn't played the game.

Besides that Gameplay, Graphics and Sound / Music are on amazing levels and the Game is just awesome! Play it!

I give it a 9 / 10. Despite the weak prologue, the game is a masterpiece.

Don't let the short-sighted anti-LGBT community dissuade you from what is arguably one of the greatest sequels for a video game ever made next to Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Inquisition, RDR2 and more! While the game's gameplay is fairly similar to part 1, the fact of the matter is that they've improved the enemy AI tenfold, added quite a few mechanics to the game as well as a new and interesting way to explore the environments around you.

Honestly, people hate on the game because they expected another Joel and Ellie story ala Uncharted but instead got **** by the creators of the game and instead went with a multi-perspective take on life in this world and how pointless a revenge quest is in the first place! If you can't grasp the greatness of the game over shortsighted issues, then you aren't looking at the bigger picture at all! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finished The Last of Us Part II 3 days ago, and now I find myself feeling confident enough time has passed to truly process my thoughts.
The game is complicated (yet it’s not particularly complex however). I spent the first 29 hrs thinking the game was a revenge story, only to understand that in the last 1hr and 45 minutes, the game is truly about forgiveness - and when it's time to let go of the past and move on.
Firstly, let me talk about the gameplay and the world.
The world once more is emphatically beautiful and profoundly immersive. The combat never ceased to excite me and each different area was alive and rich in a real world setting of an unthinkable disaster. The graphics are the best I’ve seen of any game on the PS4 - so ultimately the best of any game of ever played.
Now, the story. It’s flawed, but as far as I can see, that’s intended.
Ellie changes, massively. The opening scenes with her are the last we see of the sweet, caring young lady she’s growing into. And we see her become a mammoth in murder and repent. But I loved it, and I still care deeply for the character, that will never change.
The switch in characters at first made me angry and I even thought about putting the game down until I cared about Abby - but then i thought, what if i never care about her? And that's when it hit me - you don't. At least not at the beginning. But you learn to enjoy her company (at least I did). I learned to feel great empathy for her chocking to death on a noose, or at the end when she's being crucified and is on the verge of mal-nourishment,
The game often tries to be clever. In particular with a mini boss fight as Abby AGAINST Ellie - yano that character we love unconditionally. It's a cycle of actions and consequences and repercussions. You find yourself not only in the middle of it all, but the case with Ellie, you are the catalyst for the consequential actions. You question the motives and the actions of the characters, yet the game does not allow you to choose to comply or not - you just have to.
That's an extremely difficult concept to adhere to - without your consent. I often did not believe in the actions at first. When Ellie travels across country seeking revenge once more, is it believable? I didn't think so at first.
But lets look at the first game. Joel - he fights, kills and outright murders those against him, and he enjoys it. Then he meets Ellie, and he changes. Moreover, his feelings for Ellie becoming stronger and the reason for his actions changes. The act of saving Ellie at the end of the first game (whether you support the action or not) diminishes any chance the human race has of overcoming this disaster successfully. The needs of the many out-way the needs of the few, yet Joel makes a conscious, morally 'incorrect' decision to support his own bias - the needs of him out-way the needs of everyone else
Abbie does the same when she kills him.
Ellie does the same when she goes after her.
Abbie nearly kills Dina cause Ellie killed Mel (the pregnancy sub-plot wasn't well executed imo).
And finally Ellie goes after Abbie again seeking redemption.
And the conclusion is that revenge is not the answer - and as the flashback to Joel at the end suggests - the arc of the story (as printed above) is forgiveness.
The ending, where Ellie leaves Joel behind (metaphorically shown through the guitar being put down), does not pay off. But i understand the symbolism and I feel it’s successful within the story Naughty Dog have told.
It's complicated (as I said), but not complex. It's not a poetic way of telling a story, be it's certainly effective in showing the player the cost of their actions - and that what you think you want, is not always what you need to heal.
It's not the game I wanted, but it's the game Naughty Dog needed to tell.
It's not perfect, but its a master-class in leaving the player with a profound sense of nothingness, forcing you to lament what you have just witness, and question your own morals.

    Play it.
And if you hate it or love it, that's the correct response.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have never been more ashamed to call myself a gamer.

Clearly, the people review bombing this game are used to getting exactly what they want. How often do you play a tragic hero? One whose flaws are insurmountable? One who would be at home in one of Shakespeare's plays? Oh, and she's a lesbian too?!

The answer is never. Gamers play characters that are so one-dimensional that, when they finally do encounter a situation which requires them to be uncomfortable, they want to beat it with a flaming stick.

The resulting hate is toxic. It's also baseless. First, there are the criticisms that TLOU2 has too much "diversity". Ellie is a lesbian, as shown in the 2014 expansion The Last of Us: Left Behind. Not only is it old news, but who cares? Dina, Ellie's girlfriend, is bisexual. The only other "diverse" character is Lev (biological female) who at 13 tells his sister that he wants to be a soldier and doesn't feel like the others, presumably meaning that he doesn't feel like a girl.

That's it. That's the diversity. Three characters (I suppose four if you count the long-dead Riley) out of about 20. The game begins amid controversy when Ellie and Dina kissing publicly leads to a townsperson calling her a "dyke". Little did the directors know that many gamers would apparently be on the side of the bigot.

Second, Joel dies early on - as was leaked and led to the majority of the review bombing. We come to love Joel, and seeing him die sucked. It really did. Which is exactly how the designers wanted you to feel. It's not what gamers want, and now they're throwing their petty little tantrums. If storytelling is eliciting strong emotions in people, then the designers hit the nail on the head, through this and other decisions. I was uncomfortable and disappointed when I had to play Abby after she had killed Jesse (and I thought Tommy too), but the directors slowly and masterfully make you empathize with her. By the end, Ellie seems like the bigger piece of **** and more worthy of death. That move is the most ambitious piece of storytelling a game developer has taken on in years.

Third, both professional and user reviews say that characters are one-note and that they don't make sensible decisions. I agree with the criticism that the characters are one-note to some extent. It's a revenge story, and by necessity they need to, well, seek revenge. They're playing a part in an overall story. The story is on rails, unlike a lot of games these days where you get to decide the outcome of the player-character's life.

As for Ellie's decisions making no sense, which is related to the one-note thing, consider that Joel is her only parental figure - he dies in front of her. Consider also that her first girlfriend / crush died in front of her - Ellie may have even had to kill her when she became infected - and she was a child at the time. Ellie clearly has PTSD, as shown in the game. Her decisions may not make sense to people who were not children growing up in a warzone, but they make sense given the environment she grew up in and the things she had to do to survive. Consider the number of soldiers choosing to do multiple tours and leaving their families behind. Ellie's decisions are not abnormal. If anything, they make perfect sense.

A final criticism I feel is worth addressing - the plot holes everyone is referring to. Reading into this further, it's that they don't like the ending where both Abby and Ellie spare each other's lives. One professional review even says that Ellie's decision process to spare Abby is not shown to the player. Ummm... did they not see Ellie's facial expression as she was drowning Abby? The fear, desperation, and growing disgust in what she was doing? Did they miss the flashback to Joel sitting peacefully, making her realize that it won't change how dead he is and that he eventually chose a life of peace?

As for Abby... yeah, I'm sure tons of concentration camp survivors grabbed shotguns and started mowing down Nazis with their - oh wait, they were emaciated and weak and just wanted to GTFO. So was Abby. Apparently people don't like it when it's just another revenge story. And then they don't like it when there's no revenge and the characters actually go through some kind of transformation.

People, don't believe the hate. This is the toxicity writhing its way through the American heart and finding its way into a masterfully told game. It's unfortunate that it comes at a time where the average person just can't take all that diversity and emotional depth. A thought - maybe that's exactly what they need. If the majority are bombing this game for the reasons above, I'm fine being part of the counterculture.

Please keep making games like this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is another piece of evidence that the industry is growing up. Alongside God of War, this game will be remembered by many people as a watershed moment in game narrative - and unlike the AAA narrative space that the original helped create, the Last of Use Part II has stretched beyond the story of a taciturn father figure to focus on a relatively unique perspective - that of the kids who are left behind when the last connection to the old world are out of the picture.

    //Graphics//
One thing that everyone tends to agree on (even those who profess to loath the game) is that it's a looker. And it is. This game is so beautiful (even on a base PS4) that I found myself stopping over and over again just to take it in. The amount of detail in each play space is phenomenal. The variance in locations is impressive (given that the game takes place in one city). The lighting, the effects, the arena design, all fantastic. There are many locations in this game that will stick with me just as long as the story beats.

But the real star here is the facial animations. A testament to the actors and the animators that even the smallest emotion comes through in a believable way, helping create untold depth to the characters.

    //Gameplay//
This game starts where the first left off and goes a little deeper with the mechanics. Make no mistake, it plays better than the original in terms of moment to moment combat, but it is certainly more of the same - and certainly less impressive than the original gameplay trailer. Still, it provides enough variety to stop you from getting bored.

What might be more divisive however is the amount of downtime between combat sections. This is a slower-paced affair than the first game. With long stretches of exploration and scavenging between brief-but-brutal battle arenas. For some, this might be a downside. For me, however, it made each encounter feel much more personal and important and helped me avoid the fatigue that tends to set in games like Doom or even Ellie's last adventure.

    //Story//
When you see people giving this game a 3 or a 0 rating, their main complaint is the story. Right out the gate then, these reviews aren't really credible - since visuals, design, and gameplay alone should net this game more than these paltry scores. It is ironic that the same people who complain about the big outlets being paid to give this game 10 out of 10 scores are putting out reviews that are disingenuous. Story is but one pillar of game design, even a complete miss in this department shouldn't sink a game to a 3 or 0 - if so, Breath of the Wild should be sitting just as low on the scale.

The story of Last of Us II is a thoughtful discussion on revenge and the cycle of violence. Yeah. You've all heard the copy on this. No surprises here. But it's also a story about the world the generation born to the apocalypse want to make. Will it be marked by the destruction and violence of the old guard, or will it be something new? Time and again along their journey toward this answer, our characters watch parents and parent figures fall victim to their violence and will struggle to find the right way forward. It's a mature story and a thoughtful one, well-told and with a conclusion that is well-earned.

However. It is not an easy story to tell in the medium. A lot of people are going to check out at the start, when the inciting incident for the story occurs. More are going to check out at the mid-point, where Naughty Dog forces the player to do something that is uncomfortable by design. That's okay. No one is to blame if this isn't the story for you. Not Naughty Dog. Not the player. Pick up another game and move on. Or give it some time and come back to it - I promise that it's worth it, if you're willing to give the developers the benefit of the doubt.

For me, the story is a knockout. A real sign of the medium maturing. And while it is a little over-long, by the time the credits roll, it more and earns its runtime.

    //Elephant in the Room//
This is a watershed moment for representation in videogames. It has white, black, Asian, Middle Eastern, male, female, trans, straight, gay, bi, old, young characters throughout. The main character is a lesbian. A major character is a straight woman whose body reflects years of training and warfighting (no, she's not trans as many "not transphobic" people keep shouting. Another member of the core cast is trans. A couple are white straight males.

This is not a game that pushes a SJW agenda (whatever that is). It's a game that represents a wide range of people who happen to exist in this world. And it's really nice to get to see stories from these perspectives - especially those perspectives that I don't personally know. Because, isn't that kind of the magic of videogames as a medium? That we can inhabit worlds and perspectives different from our own?

I really liked the game's story, the characters, graphics and mechanics. It's a fitting ending to ellie's journey from an emotional teenager to an adult who is beginning to understand the meaning of perspectives and acceptance. Don't buy into the user reviews - play the game or watch the gameplay on YouTube and decide for yourself.

Sure, the ending was bittersweet and the beginning wasn't exactly a hole in one for me, but, as a package, I believe that this game accomplished something incredible. The immersion is next-level and YouTube has a sweep of videos praising it for this quality. While many are criticizing the game for its story, I found it thought-provoking. As a friend of mine, Arthur Morgan, once said, "revenge is a fool's game" and this game showed that. In a post-apocalyptic world nothing is black and white-- everything falls into the morally grey. This was seen with Joel in the first game through Joel's comments on his past and his action of saving Ellie. As for the LGBT "pandering," I did not find it too intrusive and I'm a conservative Christian. My only criticism of it was that it was a little immersion-breaking at times. What are the odds that you would meet 2 lesbians, 1 transgender person, and 2 pregnant women over the course of 3 days? They are MUCH lower than the game makes them out to be. Seems a bit unrealistic in my opinion. So, as mentioned previously, this game as a package was a truly awesome experience and regardless of what you've heard it will be worth the 60 dollar price tag. I'm seeing all of the hate for this story and I'm genuinely perplexed. I was enthralled for nearly the entire game, despite the massive plot holes and sometimes meager exposition. Every performance was top notch, the actors did a wonderful job fleshing out their respective characters rendering them likeable and tangible.

This is a great sequel worthy of The Last of Us. Don’t listen to the review bombing saying “ItS bAd WrItIng”. It’s excellent, emotional, complicated storytelling. A few minor quibbles keeps it from being a ten (e.g., it’s a little dark, there’s too many human enemies to infected enemies). Overall, Naughty Dog knocked it out of the park.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Naughty Dog took major risks in this game. Knowing they would shake their fanbase to the core, they took these leaps anyway. Right out the bat, they kill off a main character whom we've know and grew to love over the past 7 years. Brutally murdered in front of Ellie the game sets out to be a revenge story. As the player progresses through the story, thoughts and opinions change. The three days in Seattle are thrilling, horrifying, and emotional. Just as Ellie is making her rounds on the people who killed Joel, the player feels a satisfaction. But I saw this monster Ellie was becoming, and so did she. After killing Abby's close friends and former lover, the game resets and you play as Abby. It was an interesting way to approach the villain, as the player creates bonds with Abby and all of her friends you know Ellie will kill later on. Just when I thought it was over, it went on a bit longer. Although I can see why some may not like the ending, I was satisfied. The games main theme for me was forgiveness. Ellie struggles with this not only for Abby but also with Joel. Going through a lot of pain, Ellie changed as a person and changed for the better.

Gameplay was outstanding. The amount of times I'd be in shock over the brutality of the gameplay was common. Enemies would cry out for their friends after seeing their head blown off. Even killing a dog had an emotional impact. The level design and world it takes place in were beautiful. Lots of exploration to do and many interesting things to witness. Many ways to approach enemies gave a sense of strategy and depth to the gameplay.

Overall, one of the best games on the PlayStation

    SPOILERS AT THE END

The strongest point of the game is the story.
It's hard for me to call this game just a game because I think it goes through that conventional narrative barrier of telling a story. To start the game begins strong (very strong for many) I am speechless and devastated, as in the first game, and makes it clear what this second part was about.

The story is not linear, this makes it even more exciting because they are telling us a story and then they put a part of the story but the past that makes it turn and add or change the meaning of what you are doing now and this happens repeatedly in history and makes the game feel non-repetitive. The only thing I did not like was the change in what the climax of the game felt, because when this happens I feel a kind of brake on the momentum that we were carrying and it was such that I even wanted to stop my playing time but This little by little is achieving traction and weight to what would come next.

Then there are the graphics, the light effects and the sound, these are incredible and unprecedented, they make the reality hit of the game feel much stronger and they transport you very easily to the situation presented as few games can. , is a triumph over the console hardware. Music is an atmospheric seal in the first game and we see the same again in the present by the hand of the original composer, Gustavo Santaolla.

The gameplay did not evolve at all and it is still the same concept, for me, that is good because if it was not bad in the last game then it is better not to touch it, I admit that it would have been interesting to see something new and not more of the same. The elaboration of grenades, arrows and healing kits use the same system as in the first and the same with the ammunition that is scarce at all times and with the way to improve your weapons and equipment. I was disappointed with the difficulty of the game in general, I was playing it in difficult mode and I did not feel any difficulty about the enemies or the resources they gave me, I did not feel the challenge as in the first game.

The scenarios are beautiful and sometimes even terrifying but above all they make you feel like you're in the game because they take care of even the smallest detail. From being on top of a skyscraper to being deep in a forest being hunted at night. At the time of the confrontations you as a player can decide whether to want to face all the enemies in a violent way or to leave stealthily without anyone noticing (this is a little more difficult).

The enemies that we meet do not go beyond being the typical infected, including totally new ones, and then there are the human enemies that do not go beyond being the typical militarized surviving groups and the extremist cults, each group has its own way of dressing and its characteristic weapons, I was very impressed that they added so much detail to the enemies that when you kill one, the other one of his team shouts his name as if he knew it and this makes it give more realism to the game.

    HERE ARE SPOILERS ...

The main characters that are Ellie and Abby develop them in a different way since one goes down a path of revenge, killing everything that comes their way and the other goes down a path like reflection, helping even people who have ever they wanted to kill her. The two have their own stories and at some point they collide giving the player the perspective of both making the game deeper, but being Ellie's game and having Joel's story from the first game as background we lean more to Ellie feeling even guilty of our way of acting.
The secondary characters help the story a lot, they do not feel filling or empty, on the contrary I think they have to some extent an interesting story to tell, in fact I think they influence Ellie and Abby's decisions more than one thinks .

    CONCULSION
This game is another masterpiece from Naughty Dog's studio in The Last of Us series, it's a story hard to digest, understand, and beat. It is a journey of emotions and discoveries that the game left behind and that now delivers an incredible story never before seen with characters that we will remember and that marked us. The only thing stopping me from giving it a perfect 10 is unchanged gameplay, the same enemies, and difficulty. But all this is nothing compared to the rest of what the game gives me, an excellent story, rich and heavy characters, an impeccable soundtrack, beauty, terror and forgiveness. This and many other things are the reason why I give this game a 95. It is a success that shows once again that video games are more than video games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So to be quite frank, I don’t understand what everyone’s deal with this game is. While yes, the developers killed off Joel, you need to understand not only why the developers made that choice, but why Abby as a character was so motivated to do so.
While we can sympathize with him and try to minimize his actions, what Joel did to the Fireflies was an objectively horrible act that prevented the world from being saved for his own selfish desire to have a daughter figure back. Even Joel knows this, considering he lied to Ellie for so long about it. While I didn’t want Joel to die, that’s why I personally felt motivated to engage in Ellie’s borderline suicidal pursuit for revenge. It was not the period of events we wanted, but it was one vital to the progression of Ellie’s character.
I’ve heard complaints of how characters act “out of character” in this game, which is not true at all. The world of TLOU is not a world for pure protagonists. Taking Ellie as the main character being targeted by this critique, she is an incredibly traumatized young woman living in a world of constant fear and danger. It’s entirely unrealistic to expect her to be anything less than majorly flawed.
In Abby’s story, I found the humanization of those I had previously hated to be a very unique and cognitively challenging hurdle to get over. I killed these people earlier as Ellie, and now they appear as more than targets. They’re allies and friends. Abby’s story pulls more from the original game than Ellie’s story does. It’s a bunch of new characters rediscovering a feeling of purity and innocence only for that to be squashed by the events of the world around them. It’s an incredibly sad and effective tale that causes even more distress when I have to pin the two against each other.
For people criticizing the writing of the dialogue, all I’m going to ask is what did you get out of the first game that the dialogue of this one was so ‘bad’?
I saw one comment about the game getting ‘political’. What? What’s political about the game? The fact that Ellie’s gay? How’s someone’s sexual preference a political take?
The only reason I don’t give the game a 10 is because of the way the epilogue was rolled out. While I really liked the epilogue as a whole, it felt like the game was going to end like 15 times before the rattler sequence. Also the concept of super evil guys that just like torturing people for fun I a post-apocalyptic zombie-like apocalypse is a dumb trope, but neither of these are major issues by any stretch of the imagination.

The story is amazing and very powerful, it truly makes you reflect on the characters choices. Naughty dog absolutely delivers with this game even if I still wish things had been different. I have never played through a series that was so emotionally gripping. Naughty dog truly created a world that pulls you in and keeps you drawn for the vast majority. That being said there are some points where you feel tedious gameplaywise. The story truly has you engaged at all time. I highly recommend you play this game. Also for all of those who worry about things like this. A lot of players are upset because of the new dimension given to the story (vs TLOU) and the twist in the plot which is in my opinion brilliant.

The problem with it doesn’t come with the story, but with the way it is told. This tale of revenge is told masterfuly during the first 15 hours of the game, letting you not only understand but feel the emotions that the characters go through. After that, you play as a different character of which not all of its story arc is relevant so the story begins to drag, however this is compensated by some of the most tense and memorable parts of the game happening on that second part of the game.

The graphics and sound design are superb along the whole experience and definitively set the bar higher for quality in videogames, definitively a must try for every playstation 4 owner

I just finished the game and it was incredible, Abby and Ellie are great leads and their struggle against eachother hurt me in so many ways.

This story is fantastic and I genuinely think the people badmouthing this game have NO IDEA what they're talking about.

9/10. Maybe if I was more upset about visual glitches I'd give it an 8.

The games physics were so accurate I didn’t even know this was a game. Seattle was definitely a great setting to explore. The game is more open than the first one and that’s what makes it great. I only have one problem with this game. The ending, it was so unbelievably dumb and you can tell it was just lazy writing. Aside from that The Last Of Us Part 2 is a masterpiece. Expand

Never before have I played a game where such opposing feelings are Firing through me like I just stuck a fork in an outlet! I found myself in awe playing through the majority of encounters, spending hours exploring both views and hardships and relating to them. The story is absolutely beautiful, yet depressing, roller coaster of experiences. Rarely in the art form of game development do you get such an emotional and cinematic experience. The gameplay may get a little repetitive but there is just enough variation and reward that it didn’t bother me. The graphics and animations are incredible. The seamless flow through combat, kill scenes, and story elements are a testament to the future of gaming. The story will not be approved by everyone and by the end of it I sat there staring at my screen contemplating the journey. For those complaining I can only assume they prefer plots akin to Saturday morning cartoons. This is a dark ride and I didn’t agree with some choices the characters made, but I can appreciate the grand scope and the reality of this harsh world and thank naughty dog for the amazing and rare experience created! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Although I read the leaks and felt devastated with how it turned out to be, I still managed to absolutely enjoy this game and didn't understand where all the hate was coming from, the game develops the characters enough to have sympathy and to understand different perspectives and how in reality they both really are similar in the context of revenge and how it really destroys people more than give them closure. The graphics of the game are incredibly stunning, the level designs were great and the world really felt real even though it's during the apocalypse. Playing this on my PS4 pro there was still a few rendering issues but all in all, a beautiful game. The story. Now the story was an incredible journey to be a part of, at first you have such a strong dislike towards Abby but as you progress through the game, you really come to terms with why she did what she did and how in reality her and Ellie are much alike, you learn that Abby isn't as terrible as the viewers might make her out to be, and by the end of the game you really do end up sympathising with her, the game highlights the PTSD which both Ellie and Abby suffer and how the motivation of getting revenge is all due to just having their own mental closure, but you soon come to realise that revenge brings Guilt, which you can see throughout the game. Not until both individuals do the "right" thing is when they both finally have their own sense of closure from the death of their loved ones. The character development really worked great with both of the main protagonists in this game and allows you to understand both of their point of views.

As much as you sympathise with Ellie, you end up feeling sorry for Abby too, because they both suffer from the same terrible fate and they both have the same motives against each other.

There's a lot to like about Last of us Part 2 and there are some story elements which can be seen to be out of place. The pacing is also a issue. The gameplay and visuals are are second to none and graphically, I don't think we'll see better on consoles this generation. Lastly, what the story does do is give a lot of fuel to a third game and that may and probably will bring part 2 into a different light for those who are disappointed with it at this present time. It'll age well once people play through again and have time to digest and comprehend the story. It's not perfect but still a great solid entry into the series and a 9/10 for me. Expand

Assolutamente, ma a me è piaciuta molto.
Complimenti a voi e grazie, grazie davvero.

It is far from an uplifting story, so I understand why it is so polarizing. The first game was about love and hope, while this game is about hate and loss. There are moments of sadness and parts where you don't like what the main character is doing, but that's all part of it. You will eventually hate characters you love and love characters you hate. It's part of the destructive nature of being blinded by rage. While this sounds bad, it is a story that is told very well. Also the gameplay is a lot of fun. After playing it a more couple times later i suddenly had this weird felling about the story, i started to like it less all of the sudden, something inside me didn't like how things were happening anymore. that was the point where i started liking the game less and less. time passed and after not playing for while i came and started playing again but this time, i felt like i was understanding the events more and more, many things made better sense and that was the point i found my true felling about the game. TLOU2 changed my life forever exactly how TLOU1 did, but it wasn't perfect. it seems like the writers changed their mind along the process of making the game. i can't really say they made the right decision or not, but they didn't made a bad one for sure. As far as story games are concerned, the sequel The Last of Us is very, very great, both graphically and especially in the story and the expression of emotions. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros:
    - Increadibly good graphics (I don't know any game that comes close to TLOU2 in that regard). Actually I didn't think the PS4 (even the Pro) could handle those graphics with such a stable framerate. Yeah, sure, I'd wish I could play the game on my PC so I can crank up the graphics even more and enjoy a higher framerate, but that's just complaining at a very high level.
    - Extremely good sound design (You can hear so many things going on around you, the sounds are perfectly matching all the movement and environments, enemies, weapons, etc., it's just perfect)
    - The vistual art style is superb and makes the game look extremely realistic and organic. Even though some objects are re-used over the game, it doesn't feel like it. Reminds me of "The Vanishing of Ethan Carther" where almost no object appeared twice in the game.
    - The enemy design really nice and makes enemies (especially the monsters) feel more dangerous.
    - The athmosphere is phenomenal. I would've loved the game even if it was just an exploration game without combat or anything. Just exploring the world was much fun.
    - This game is huge and I believe it took me at least 50% longer than the first part because it as really big areas to explore and to fight through.
    - Movement is on the spot and I'd say 98% of moves look astonishingly realistic and organic and give a real sense for the weight of the character. It didn't feel like you were shoving around a weightless "thing" but a real person with weight and a center of gravity that's changing depending on how the player controls the character.
    - The facial expressions of the characters are over the top well done. I loved them so much. They are the best I've seen so far in a game and they are even better than most movies' with real actors.
    - Overall gameplay didn't change too much so that anyone who played the first game should feel familiar with this one immediately. It's mostly stealth and action, split by countless ingame cutscenes (was there a pre-rendered cutscene anyway? I'm actually not sure and when the Intro was over I first didn't realize it was ingame and I wondered why nothing happened :D)
    - The Listen Mode is improved in a way that it feels more realistic. You can't "see" as clearly as in the first game anymore (even though you can level that skill up).
    - The amount of options (especially for people with bad hearing or bad eyes) is suprising and satisfying. You can adjust so many options so that you can make it your very own experience and you are able to make the game even easier or harder with that.

Nonetheless there are some Cons which I want to name:
    - The decision to kill Joel at all a punch in the face. Sure, it helps developing hatred for his killer and thus feeling what Ellie feels. But, man, this was a hard punch and I wish the Devs hadn't done that because they destroyed all of the relationship that Ellie and Joel built up in the first game. Yes, I know, since Joel saved her from death their relationship was a bit frozen but wouldn't it have made for a wonderfui story if the two would reconcile and he would FINALLY admit to her his father feelings for her? Instead he had to die (felt very rushed and extremely unecessary) and all of what the first game built up was ... gone. Poof. Like it never happened. That's not a very good storyline in my eyes but rather the failed try to make the player feel angry.
    - The boss fights were way too hard (even on lowest difficulty). They felt like 5 times harder than usual gameplay.
    - The game makes you feel stupid. Let me explain: There are many many situations where you exactly know that after the next squeeze-through/door/drop to a lower level either a boss fight or at least new hordes of enemies await you. You 100% know it but the game leaves you no choice in going around or hiding. It forces you into the fight or at least into being hit from your left and overwhelmed by some enemy. I consider this as cheap as a trick as jump scares in movies. Don't make the player KNOW what's coming and then make exactly this happen but instead let it happen when the player least expects it. Make the game unpredictable. Unfortunately the game is very predictable when it comes to enemy encounters.
    - The AI of the enemies is better than in the first game in my opinion but especially human enemies are more or less cannon fodder. The stalker though was an extremely nice enemy to fight and those encounters were the only ones where I really felt adrenaline. Most other encounters are more like planning a trip. Make the AI more unpredictable.
    - This game has way too many situations where you need to force push doors open because they are blocked by a shelf or something. Most times there were so many ways around those doors but you were forced to use this single way and no other.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first game was my favorite game of all time. When the trailers came out it was so obvious what this game was going to be about. There were articles and YouTube videos talking about what we all thought it was going to be about. Now suddenly we're acting like we're all surprised? the first game is a 10 for me and this one can't reach that point because I do have some issues with it. But it has nothing to do with most complaints people have. the leaks led me to believe that this is going to be left-wing politics shoved down my throat and that's not the case. So now we want to pretend it has nothing to do with the LGBT controversies, and we all want to claim we're just mad that you have to play as Abby. movies and stories follow antagonist side of the story all the time this is nothing new in story telling. if you genuinely loved the first game, and don't care that there's some LGBT characters in it, by the way Abby is never implied to be trans, try the game you'll likely like it. Now I know people are going to claim I'm just calling people bigots if they don't like this, that's not the case at all. I am actually a right-leaning conservative person in most people's eyes. I was fully expected to be pissed off at a bunch of left-wing politics being shoved down my throat in this game, then it never came and I was wondering what all the outrage was about because while I didn't read the spoilers that's what all the memes were bashing it for. I saw one person say he refused to play the game because Abby was trans (even though the games never implied that l, after I beat the game my friend asked me if they really put tr@nny porn in it. Clearly that is one of the biggest issues a lot of people have, so many of the comments seem to imply having gay lesbian or trans characters is their biggest issue. of course I am not claiming that's everyone though.

If you can't handle that bad things can happen to characters you love and stories then you likely won't like this. As I said, the first game is my favorite game of all time. I can't accept that a character I love dying means it's disrespect to the character or disrespect to me as a fan, that is incredibly simple-minded. and going back to the first trailers, this is exactly what everyone was predicting the game was going to be about so it's ironic that we're acting like that's the part that pisses off so much. I've also seen so many people say it would have been better if you got to get your revenge at the end. That completely defeats the point of the game. If that's the case it would be like Ellie becomes the villain and completes her path to the dark side. that would mean Abby and lev become the protagonist and Ellie becomes a villain. Even Abby spared Ellie's life in the theater. it would have made the story worse if Ellie actually kills Abby at the end but people seem to be too simple-minded and think the only logical story conclusion would be Abby being murdered Ellie. the story was not what I was expecting and obviously controversial but I think the more and more I contemplated the more I actually like how the story comes full circle similarly to how the first game came full circle. And people forget that Joel was a murderous **** and condemned humanity to no cure by killing the doctors. I hope for a part 3.

I went into this game without seeing the spoilers but also with an expectation that the story was lacking or was to "woke", I finished the game at this point and I was happy to find out this was not true, it takes an unpredictable approach which makes sense in it's universe and for me it really delivered, it forces you to see things from a perspective that you were not ready for and takes changes on a narrative that, for me was a great experience.
In 2020 with so many **** in modern games it's nice that someone is still making good experiences like this.
And just to add a little bit of review detail, the gameplay is good if you liked the 1st one, the graphics are great, the acting in general is top notch, the exploration is a little disappointing (too linear), the game is not without its flaws, but if you miss this experience because of the negativity this game is receiving you are doing a disservice to yourself and if you saw the spoilers before experiencing this, then I feel bad for you.

For me it was totally worth the money, congratulations on a great game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think this is a truly unique sequel, great standalone game, and an amazing franchise. Depending on whether there's a 3rd game and how good it is I would consider it a masterpiece overall.

Part II setup a rich and complex story, a well-crafted environment and world, and an action-packed game that I've never seen done with such creativity in a video game.
To address some of the bad critics that I saw :
    1) Even though Joel is clearly a kind person overall and the hero of the first story, his death was to be expected because he killed good people. But he did it only because Ellie was going to be murdered without asking for both her and his consent, because he could not watch a second daughter figure die and because the armed groups like the Fireflies are far from trustworthy.
    2) Abby is also a good person overall but in this lawless time, justice is done out of personal revenge instead of an independent jury. Because of her father's death and loss of the dream of a cure for Cordyceps, she (and to a lesser degree her friends too) was blinded with hatred and revenge.
    3) The game doesn't present Abby enough early on to let the player identify with her because the goal is for the player to fully identify with Ellie's revenge feelings at the moment her friend gets tortured to death. This desire for revenge is the key to the story
    4) Abby and her friends may not appear very likable but the reason the story follows them is to show that they are not bloodthirsty monsters, on the contrary, they are far more empathetic than the rest of the armed groups like the WLF or the Seraphites.
    5) When Abby and Ellie fight, they are both going down the wrong path which is why the favorite one, Ellie is in the position of the "bad guy". And Abby is about to take another step in the right direction by sparing their lives.
    6) We finally get a moment of peace and hope at the farm, we then experience Ellie leaving her lover Dina to finish the revenge. At this point, Ellie hasn't seen Abby's life as the player has, but she has been scarred by previous experiences of mistrust, revenge, and violence across both stories. Even though she killed all Abby's friends she might not know what they represented to her and she still feels that Abby came out on top, unpunished, and threatening. And she makes the wrong decision to leave and chase her revenge again, which will cost her everything.
    7) When Ellie finally beats Abby in the water as she strangles her, she finally has a grip on what she wanted more than anything. Luckily for her, Abby went through torture and redemption, she is now weakened and loses the fight. At this point, Ellie takes control and remembers that Joel wouldn't want her to live for revenge especially since Abby had shown a better moral path previously.

My interpretation is that there are two diseases that plague the world of TLOU, the infected humans attacking humans and this has pushed society to hunt each other where humans constantly fear and even kill each other. Ellie represented the biological cure in Part I and at the end of Part II, she can represent the emotional cure.

When I started the game and realised that these characters would be rarely seen together of course I was upset. What some people who criticize the game don't seem to understand is that is the point and while I understand that people don't really want to be upset that doesn't mean that this game is bad. Art can still be good without making you feel good. Though that's not to say that the game never makes you feel good, there are plenty of likeable characters and happy scenes in the game and the banter between the characters while you explore is entertaining. The game makes you feel bad to very effectively present a message about the cycle of violence and how violence is pointless and in the end achieves nothing which is highlighted every well by some of the criticisms about the ending of the game which highlights this well. While I'm on the topic of the ending, I have a few issues with that but there more just thoughts rather than solid criticism as I'm not sure if I think the ending was the best it could be although it definitely wasn't bad. I feel like it was what I wanted to happen but not what the character would have done. This is because of the very clever way that the game uses character swapping to present you with the 'villains' point of view which gives you an understanding of both sides whereas the characters only understand their own side. This is another part that got heavily criticised mainly due to the leaks so people decided they didn't like it without the nesacery context. At first I felt the same, I thought I could never like that character and I was right, whilst some people did like them in the end personally I didn't but that doesn't matter cause I understood them which is all that I needed to engage in the story the way naughty dog intended. Although whilst I loved the story I can understand why some people didn't like it as it tries to make you feel both guilty for what you've done and sad about what has happened you could argue that they went a little bit to far but personally I thought is was great. I mentioned at the start how Joel and Ellie's relationship doesn't take centre stage but this was not abandoned and still is important in the story and the scenes that do keep this going are great. Whilst dissapointed at first by this change in direction in the end I was glad to get this rather than more of the same.

The gameplay is fun and looks good. It all works smoothly. While it may not develop much the context as well as the upgrades and different environments are enough to make it feel fresh. The big spaces where the combat takes place allow for a surprising amount of freedom as to how how to tackle the scenario for such a linear game which is definitely appreciated. The combat is a mixture of tense stealth which can suddenly all go wrong and it now changes to a frantic battle for survival and I enjoyed the combat till the end. Exploration doesn't evolve but your thinking about the story or the interesting notes you can find or the dialogue between characters to keep you occupied and the environments are interesting. The graphics are obviously amazing as is to be expected from naughty dog as is the voice acting and animation both in and out of cutscences. The soundtrack is also brilliant, one of the best in video games, it definitely plays a big role in making sure the emotional beats hit in the most powerful way they can.

    SUMMARY Positives:
A great story (that goes in a differnt direction to part 1 without abandoning what was good about the first game as a great sequel should) that is brilliantly and creatively told, that provokes both strong emotion and meaningful thoughts about violence and if it can ever achieve anything. Although it makes you feel negative emotions quite alot and doesn't go the way that is expected after the first game which could drive some players away, if approached with an open mind most people should really love this story.

Graphics, animation, voice acting and sound track are all top quality and the gameplay is fun whilst also developing the characters, messages, story and the world in a brilliant way and I never got bored of it.

    Negatives:
The game tries very hard to make you feel guilty, sad, uncomfortable and makes you question yourself quite alot. This tendency to make the player feel bad can understandably drive off some players and you could argue that they went a bit to far although I personally thought it was genius.

Overall this brilliant, creative and thought provoking story woven seamlessly with the exploration and exciting combat makes an experience that while not for everyone, is definitely a must play

The game is just graphically stunning and some the new and little added mechanics like the prone and melee moves to be a great addition, the game is long and can sometimes become tiering If your like me and try explore every corner. The story although controversial as I’ve seen is actually quite gripping and made me want to keep playing to see how it all unfolds and what will happen to our beloved Ellie and even with the loss of Joel even though some see as cheap I took it as a way to show they are not afraid to kill even the most beloved characters, with that it even sometimes left me worrying if this could be the end of Ellie too that just made the game more intense and interesting. One my only big issues was when it moved to the Abby section, I did find it nice to actually see the two sides of the story and even with the hate I felt towards Abby for what she did to Joel it makes some the characters like Manny and Owen even Abby as likeable people dealing with what the messed up world has dealt them I mean you can’t be mad at a women who set on killing the man that took her farther away when your supporting Ellie set to kill the women who took the man who was like a farther figure away. It’s a shame the swap of the story happened right at a intense stand off between both these women tho as it kinda left you frustrated wanting to get back straight to the stand off to see what happens. My overall view of this game is that it is a great game and keeps to the Gritty, gory and cruel environment the first game introduced us. I be looking forward to any more games or even spin off games set in the hellish and infected universe and think the teams have worked hard and should be pleased with what they have helped create. Хорошая игра которая подарила кучу эмоций.
Есть некоторые моменты которые мне не понравились, но это лично мои причуды.
Жаль, что такие качественные игры выходят так редко.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved first game and it's my beloved game because of gameplay graphics story and mainly because of narration. I have never seen movie or played the game that would stay in my mind for such long time. I feel the same way about this game and as for me it is also a great game, I enjoyed gameplay as it was realy pleasing and I enojyed the plot because i like when i have mixed feelings about ending of game and TLOU2 left me with that kind of feelings but I also get why people hate it for that reason. It is realy confusing and unsatisfying, as for me the story wasn't told badly but again I get why people say that. I think that most peolpe hated the same thing as I did. The part when you play as Abby is so fu****. I begged god to make it stop, I didn't enjoy it because I hated that character for obvious reason but after all I think it was necessary to put in the story BUT not in the game. If it was for me to decide what to do with it, I would say to cut it off and make it into DLC. I think that only then peolpe would rate the game on 8 and DLC on 5. I don't agree with people rating the game at level of 3 as it's too low but I agree with rating of 5-7 because I get why it is mediocare. As for me it is great game and I am so happy that I finally got to play it and I still hope that we will see the last of us part 3 as the next naughty dog game. Expand

Knowing the end made me very sad. That day lasted until late thought: What will happen. The next day I skipped and played until the part where Ellie and Dina are living "happy" with their son; and leave it there. It is not the end that Naughty Dog gave him, but it was the one that I gave him, and the one that seems best to me. I'm not going to finish it, because I couldn't bear it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I know I am not siding with a good majority of the fan base, but I thought the game was excellent. I have been waiting 7 long years for this game. I specifically avoided everything about the game. Even the leaks. The way the game throws you a curveball in the prologue is jarring if you are a fan but that doesn’t make it the wrong direction. No game is perfect as the dev team at Naughty Dog know. I don’t think they took this story lightly. I would even put money to the fact that they know the characters and their stories better than we do, and love them. It’s their life’s work. I don’t like certain things in this story for the same reasons people are complaining about. I do however respect what they did with this game and the balls it took knowing it would anger some keyboard cowboys The story although meant for entertainment is not always meant for enjoyment in the normal sense of the meaning. I found myself struggling at times with the weight of the violence and the story and it starts early on. Spoilers Ahead. When you first see Abby and Owen you don’t know what you are seeing until you see it. Joel will be missed as a anti hero of sorts. We want to love the story of Joel getting a second chance. We want to be happy he and Ellie are making it in Jackson. Did we forget how we got here. Joel killed a bunch of people to save a girl he thought of as a daughter. Some people didn’t forget what the smuggler did and make that point in a violent way. This sets scene for the dark story that follows. You aren’t meant to play this game with a smile on your face. You’re meant to regret everything Ellie and Abby are doing. Blind rage for revenge fuels them. There is not a happy ending here. No one is innocent. The characters flaws are mirrored in each other. The game play is on par with its predecessor and rummaging through drawers and buildings can still be annoying. The enemies are more of the human nature in this episode of the game yes they introduce a few new types of infected Shamblers and Stalkers but, you find yourself in the middle of a war between two groups who both think they are right but are probably wrong. Another group keeps humans a slaves labor but Needless to say you end fighting more humans than infected. The environments are beautiful even in the dilapidated places. The shadows the lighting all play a part in this story. In the end the game is a beautifully built disaster of humanity when there is nothing to keep the moral compass pointed north. It repeatedly begs you to ask yourself when is enough enough. When you get to the end you will feel drained emotionally yet hopeful that something good will come out of it all. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
