Really great game, maybe not all things are good and overall this game isn't as good as first part, but still in my opinion is worth it to play, gameplay is fun, story maybe not for all, but good, conroversial decision wasn't for me disgusting. Only two things what was really dissapointing is ending and second half of the game(more or less last 14 hours).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It absolutely breaks my heart to see the poor reviews for this amazing game. I thoroughly enjoyed this game, start to finish, despite having a minor complaint regarding the ending. From stunning visuals to, in my opinion, a well thought out story line i struggle to see why the majority of reviews for this game are negative.
I only have 2 complaints about this game: The positioning of Joel's death in the play through and the ending. However these are only minor complaints. Joel dies very early on in the play through which doesn't really give players enough time to reconnect with him as a character, which some say makes his death pointless (?). I replayed the first game prior to launch so i did not encounter this problem but i can see why it is an issue. However his death makes more and more sense as the story progresses and acts as Ellie's main driving force. Without the death of Joel, this game wouldn't make half as much sense. In terms of the ending, I feel it didn't provide enough closure in terms of the characters besides Ellie. Ellie's journey is closed off perfectly and having realized this much my issue with the ending is minor.
All in all the issues with this game are minor and i think it is worthy of everyone who enjoyed the first game's time. I loved every second and everyone I know did also. Pick this game up!

Or it could just end like that. It made through an emotional for both Ellie and Abby. Really loved the game. Game play, level design, graphics, acting and sound are excellent, just like in TLOU, even though I liked the soundtrack of the first game a bit better and some maps stretch out a bit too long (especially solo missions). As far as I can tell, all the negative reviews stem from fans who do not like where the story leads them. This has nothing to do with bad writing - on the contrary, I find it excellent (as with most ND games). The characters actions and motivations add up and everything progresses at a satisfactory pace. As for the (controversial) story, it fits into the TLOU universe. The elements of the story are not black and white as in good vs. evil. And the story doesn't have a Hollywood type, boring and overused ending. Its very unique and memorable, similar to the first title. It's exactly what I was expecting of TLOU2.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was able to enjoy this fresh without being spoiled anything. But this story is amazing for what it IS. A lot of people are disillusioned by the fact that it's not what they wished it was. Trying to empathize with some of the characters is necessary. It's necessary to try and empathize in a meta-way because we play as Ellie, who at the end, learns to empathize with and forgive Joel. She says "I'd like to try [to forgive Joel]" and the same is being done for Abby.

There are legitimate criticisms of the game. The pacing is all over the place, and the marketing is misleading. There is also the criticism that Joel let his guard down. All those things make this a very flawed game like any other. There were plot armor examples in the first game too (a little girl like Ellie with no combat experience being able to fend off tens of hunters and protect Joel when he is wounded at the university, for one). But just like the first game, which had a more airtight plot overall, I think it's important to enjoy the game for what it IS despite its flaws. The gameplay is imperfect in both the first and second game (with the jump button being clunky).

However, a game like TLOU part II elevates telling bold stories with emotion and trying to make a player feel emotions like never before to a new level. Although it's flawed, the sheer experience this game provides should be experienced by every Ps4 owner

    SPOILERS AHEAD!
First of all Abigail was created by the traumatic experiences when random guy called Joel murdered her dad and all of the firefly staff. She had her revenge and CLEARLY warned Ellie a couple of times that if they meet again Abby will kill her. On the other hand Ellie is psychologically a very complex human being, she was very much fighting her own demons between a HUGE urge of revenge and the need of relief, a salvation. Ellie was mechanically fullfilling her plan until the very end when she realised that killing Abigail changes nothing, that relief and salvation came when she held Abby under water and could kill her instantly. I think Ellie realised (seeing Joel in her mind) that Joel wouldn't want her to seek revenage and put her own life at stake. She finally made peace with herself and accepted Joel's death. The ending was psychologically reasoned and logical. It was something out of the box. Not that "American happy ending" you all wanted.
In my opinion II part is better, more mature, rough, more complex and more psychological than the firts part.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is receiving way to hate. First of all the gameplay, mechanics, graphics and audio are incredible. This alone deserves a score of 7/10. Now for the story. Naughty dog did an incredible job at showing how every action comes with a price. Joel’s death obviously caused Ellie and Tommy wanting revenge but also made Abby feel like **** and she was looking for redemption. The revenge plot is really dull and there’s usually not much to it. But when you play as Abby you get to see both side of the story. And then you realize Joel had it coming he doomed humanity for selfish reasons. This is where you get thrown into the emotional rollercoster. It comes to a point where you care for both sides and you are forced to play one off them to kill the other. For exemple knowing that Ellie killed Owen and seeing how in love Abby and him were was heartbreaking. And thats why I loved it. You feel the pain, you understand their actions, you realize that everyone is normal human beings who went trough hell and are living in this rough apocalyptic world were the only thing that really matters is survival.
Now the reason I am rating the game 9/10 is that the story lacks purpose. You finish the game and realize that revenge gives you nothing and thats what your left with at the end .... nothing, no pride or feeling of accomplishment. Im hoping that there is a last of us 3 that can give reason to all of this chaos.

The other thing that annoyed me a little is the LGBTQ aspect. I have nothing against it and it makes sens that Ellie is gay. But then seeing Abby who is quoting Tommy “built like an ox” and that Lev was Lily and that's why he ran away makes me feel like they’re trying just a little too hard. Like why couldn’t Lev have multiple personalities or something.

All in all this game is amazing and everyone should play it simply to experience the way it makes you feel. I haven’t seen another game that was able to accomplish this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I believe the story itself is not bad, and is prett well written chronologically speaking. What I think actually botched it was how the two stories of Abby and Ellie were placed. First of all some people said and they were right that Abby should have had more back story, building her relationship with her father. Her backstory has two components, father and boyfriend, and the fathrr bits are the most rushed although her father's death triggers her actions. That makes it hard for people to feel for her. There were a couple of other options to make this better. Make Abby's backstory more consistent. Alternate her's and Ellie's experiences that were happening in paralel. Kill Joel a little later and allow Abby to be built up a little more to that moment. It's not like the fact that Abby is after him is shocking. It's really kinda predictable anyway. Take a quarter of the game.to build more into Dina dn Ellie's relationship, build Abby's past and relationship, and after Joel dies, intertwine their stories a bit. Anyway, I liked the ending and I liked that you get to play Ellie a bit more near the end, and that therr would still be space of going further with a part iii.

The gameplay is better than the fisrt part, not bu much, but alightly more varied, as are the enemies.

Image and sound are superb as expected. I did notixe some things that stood out like a sore thumb, like the ocean water in santa barbara which looks lile a glitch in the matrix. I am going to rate this high because it is a very good game, had some mistakes that could have made it much better, on par with the first. But as overall atory it rounds the first one pretty well.

I myself was fortunate not to see any spoilers beforehand, but it was geared up to be one of the worst sequels of the decade according to others. I’ll say this: TLOU2 is absolutely astonishing visually and gameplay wise. I felt immersed in the world they created with no mission marker, compass, etc. The graphics and land are crafted beautifully and the new ways Ellie and characters can navigate the world are creative and ever changing.

But let’s get to the meat and potatoes, the story: This game will only be impactful if you go into it with an open mind, in my opinion. It seems to many other players went into it having an agenda for what they wanted to happen, coupled with the fact they played as another character they had no intent of understanding, or cared enough to understand, which made for some bad reviews. Personally, this is far from the truth. The story is about redemption, revenge, love, and forgiveness, and as the final credits roll it leaves the player emotionally drained from the past 30 hours of unbelievable twists and turns. Ellie’s quest for revenge and tearing down everything in her path prove to be haunting to those she kills...and to her. In some areas, this game rivals its predecessor.

However, this game is not without flaws, and I can see why some do not favor this over the first one. The game slows in some areas, particularly as you start the second half of the game, and I can see why so many put down their controllers and gave a negative review, but I implore you to keep playing. I ask that you keep an open mind to the second half, and I promise that the end result will live up the same as the first game.

Finally, and I feel the need to add this because it because many have complained about this: TLOU2 is not a happy game. Every once in a while their are heart touching moments of hope and joy for the characters, but it ends up either being short lived or destroyed in front of them. The first one, while obviously not joy of a story or setting, had love and hope coated throughout the plot between Joel and Ellie, which made us feel more connected with them. Not this is not to say you can’t relate to any of the characters in this game (I felt more connected with the characters in TLOU2 than the first), but there are very few moments of joy after the first three hours of gameplay. have been gaming for over 20 years, and I have never felt as emotionally drained, conflicted, or flat out sad for characters in any game besides this one (including the TLOU1). If you are looking for a happier ride, keep looking, but if you want a a game with compelling parallels between two sets of characters that continues to captivate and impress until the credits role, this game is right up your alley. I see why some did not like it and I respect their opinion, but in my eyes, in most areas, this TLOU2 rivals the first, and did not disappoint in its 7 year wait.

There are no good or bad people, only survivors, capable of the worst acts but also of some beautiful ones.
Although some decisions taken by the characters may be hard to accept or agree with, the full story goes beyond them, showing that the way of ending the cycles of violence comes with a great cost, forgiveness.

Everything about this game is lovingly crafted and beautifully executed. The main contention from people seems to be about the story, Which we’ve seen time and time again be the sore point of beloved franchises for whatever reason however this was the developers story they wanted to say and how they wrapped it into this experience for the player is nothing short of amazing.

The story is great, the characters are complex and their motivations are completely understandable. The fact that Naughty Dog made me feel empathy for a character who I genuinely hated is a testament to just how well they can tell a story. Loved it from the beginning til the end because of all of the complex emotions I was able to feel from the story being told. I felt like I could relate to each and every character. The only thing I wish was there would be a more fleshed out crafting system. Other than that, I believe this game will go down in history as a masterpiece, just like the first one. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros: Fantastic game. It builds on the world of the first one, with amazing graphics and great story telling. The banter between characters is great, and the highlights in the game almost always involve interactions between them.

Cons: Occasionally the pacing isn't great, giving you a little too much space to explore which slows down the story a lot. The combat continues to just be OK my opinion, and with stretches of gameplay alone, with no minor character banter, can drag, and doesn't quite live up to the first installment (which was a 9.5 for me). But pretty damn close.

Overall though, still one of the best story/atmosphere games on this gen of console.

For those hating: Stop being sexist bigots. I bet if Ellie and Joel traded places at the start, and everything else stayed the same, you all would love the game. Get your heads out of your asses, and grow up.

The first game left you happy but with a question, this game leaves you hopeful but empty. Really makes you have a new perspective on conflict.

The gameplay was great, I always play on the hardest difficulty and it really feels like my life is in danger with every conflict. Graphics are great in gameplay and cutscenes. I like the characters, even tho most of the time there is a level of gloom so they can't really share there personalities.

I do say I think they forced the LGBT movement not with Ellie but with Lev. Lev could of had a thousand other reasons to be kicked out of the Scars. I mean they are a cult, make up a rule. Now everyone is mad about Joel, and it did suck for him to die and to die the way he did, but that doesn't mean it wasn't done well. There are plenty of movies/shows or what have you that have similar scenes with a beloved character to die. This is the world, Joel always said their luck would run out sooner or later, and his finally ran out

I find it complete rubbish, everyone who qualifies the game as evil, homophobic haters, and hurt fans who believe this is a fantasy game, the game is so complex in the psychological part, shows the reality in the crap world we are, these people expected people, iconic characters to die Tony Stark, and sorry my skies so was not and so is not real life, hide in their absurd fantasies and their cheap policies, believing that the game would be a post-apocalyptic game as we have always seen this touches more the flesh and penetrates more the soul and shows reality not to a fantasy like all games that we are used to playing at the end of the world, although, it is a linear game gives the option to live and explore other things, transport us to a past and remember that affection father and daughter, and show more things and delve a little into an experience different from the others, as curious, the game there are also pieces of curious data, example when ellie goes to the museum there are historical and educational data and that details seemed interesting to me, because there is no lack of the rat child hurt by Joel's death and his homophobia that has not managed to capture the attention or did not notice, it helps to turn those kinds of people intellectual, those criticisms are those people who threw a lump of stone in their shoe, and cut off an arm and an eye so as not to persirvir any more Whatever the game is, and the experience, since the death of Joel, you get the feeling, you learn that every decision you make, has its consequence, now that maybe it had some fillings and characters with nothing to do with the main and emblematic characters, and a raw and dry death, as it is in reality, maybe that did lack strength, from Ellie we learn that the experiences that are learned from Pain are the ones that make us stronger, to one who does not get what is expected in the end, as to many grieved critics, who stigmatized the game in one way or another, as if they did not know what world we are standing in, the game touched reality and are always so accustomed to the same fantasy, of the were happy forever, many do not understand why the game goes beyond a fantasy. Many games need to be more realistic and this one did. Gameplay 98

Graphically, this game is a masterpiece. Naughty dog has garnered a reputation for polish and detail in their games and this is no exception. Fantastic attention to detail and unbelievably fluid animations. This is the first game I have played where i felt so strange to go sprinting and jumping everywhere purely because the level of realism is so high that it felt off when the characters didn't act like actors in a film. Every location and area has its own characteristics and little details, and there's never a bland or repetitive scene. 10/10

The story is leagues ahead of other games in the same genre but that's to be expected from a narrative experience. The progression and decisions of the characters are certainly not objective but every action is understandable. Juxtapositions and relationships between characters initially come off as somewhat overplayed and predictable, but as the narrative plays out the characters' development and interactions consistently keep the player invested and keep the story unpredictable. 8/10

The gameplay experience takes everything that was done well in the original and both improves and compounds on it. I chose to play on the 'Hard' on my first playthrough and felt that items and ammunition could have been more scarce, but understand that I'm more attuned to save on and hoard resources instead of use them regularly like many players. My second playthough on the hardest difficulty had me feeling more challenged, and somewhat reminded me of classic survival horror games; a feeling I'd been sorely missing, making me love the game even more. Depending on how you play, the gameplay can pace down the story structure and damage the player's immersion a little, but that issue felt minor and was forgotten about seconds later every time it came up. 9/10

The Last of Us was a title that made me love the PS3 as a console. The immersive and somewhat grounded world, the characters who had been affected by this world, and an intense, emotional story built off of their development on a journey through it. It was memorable, beautiful and stayed with me for very long after playing.

Enter The Last of Us Part 2, a game that carries us back into this same world with some familiar faces making an appearance. For starters, the game stands out as one of the most graphically beautiful experiences you can get on console today. The lighting, the incredible density of areas you explore, the quality of material detail, and like the first game, some incredible facial animation work with real acting performances that make you feel like you’re watching real humans interact with each other. It isn’t that often i will willingly ignore the sprint button and walk around a game world, just taking it all in, but this is one in which i regularly felt the need to do it. The best part being all of this is at a very solid and smooth frame rate too.

The game also sounds incredible, the sonic atmosphere is perfectly balanced with a great dynamic range. The music is also brilliant, again, and perfect for the dark, barren, and often hopeless world it embellishes, the main themes being used sparingly at the main story beats to add to the impact of these moments. I think the most important thing to take from this amazing visual and sonic fidelity, is how immersive this game is, and i think that mainly comes down to the great job the dev team have done creating this extreme, complex and believable world.

The gameplay is very much similar to the first, but refined and improved in many ways too. I personally really enjoy the main gameplay mechanics, searching for crafting parts to ready yourself for combat, and then finding it’s often just enough to get you through said encounters. I found the ‘moderate’ difficulty option to be more than fair, with a few parts that i found particularly challenging, but occasional difficulty spikes, although rare, did happen. Again though, these could be worked around with a few attempts and some thought (or spamming with the heavy weapons and some luck).
The enemy variation is much better this time around, with more infected (some new more shocking examples too), some animals and more humans with different backstories and reasons for what they do. These little differences make encounters feel unique and more challenging strategically. There were unfortunately some moments, especially in the latter part of the game, in which the encounters maybe started to feel a bit much, and more like something from the Uncharted series. It felt a little out of place in a game series that usually aims to be slightly more grounded, stealth based and not the hyped up ‘one man army’ style.

However, i think I’m not alone when i say the most important thing in this game is the story and its characters. Unfortunately, i would say this is a bit of a mixed bag, and there’s a lot of thinking to do after completing it. The characters, particularly Ellie and Dina, are very well written and felt grounded, relatable and real. The cutscenes are incredible, and a few very beautiful moments occur in which, very much like the first, you will be left a little tearful. I generally really enjoyed the game and think its a very interesting and profound story experience, but in a way, there are moments i really did not enjoy. In a sense, i know this is intentional (which is somewhat interesting in itself), but with it being a game, it feels a little odd to be forced to do certain things, and then made to feel bad about not enjoying doing them. In fact, its that divisive and split, there was one particular moment where i was considering putting the controller down and calling it a day, because i didn’t want to do what i had to. It is completely understandable to me that people will not like this story, and some big fans of the first may even struggle to complete it, but i think i do also respect Naughty Dog in some ways for breaking the mould and doing something extraordinarily risky. It is a game that will stay with you, but not at all for the same reasons as the first did, and not necessarily good reasons. Some very important new characters are introduced throughout the game, and some of these new characters are not handled in a very good way, which leaves you struggling to relate and care about them when it comes time to. Also, the game is somewhat split into two main parts, built from two main perspectives, and again, i’m not sure whether this was a great idea (although it does mean you get to meet more characters and see more of the world, which is a positive thing. I am all for world building).
The game is very fleshed out, deep and detailed though, so you can easily put 20-35+ hours into one play through, depending on your play style.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll start this off by saying TLOU1 was my favourite game of all time. For the time it had stunning graphics, sound design and most importantly, an amazing story. When the leaks came out for this game along with the backlash, I made sure to avoid them because I wanted to have a completely unbiased view on the game as I played it. After now finishing it, I can say it has replaced TLOU1 as my new favourite game.

I'm not going to deny there were some controversial moments in it however, I still can't quite understand why people are so angry about this. What happened to a certain character set in motion the events of the entire game, and for the time I played as Ellie, I was beyond amazed at how incredible the game was. Excluding the gameplay (which was fantastic), the natural character building with everyone made me feel a connection like no other game has and my jaw spent most of its time on the floor.

Then we get to the Abby section. It got better towards the end of her portion of the game but no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't enjoy it to the same level as Ellie's gameplay (which is why I have given it a 9 instead of a 10). The confrontation between the two had me trying so hard to not fight Ellie because I wanted her to win. Whilst I understand what she did and why she did it, nothing could make me forgive her which is what decreased my enjoyment for a significant portion of the game. This still doesn't justify the backlash though.

No game has bounced my emotions around like this before, going from elated to borderline tears in a matter of minutes. Sure there were some shortcomings which has left the option for TLOU3 in around 10 years time once people have stopped complaining about a genuinely fantastic game, but the moment's people are salty over moved me more than any other game ever has.

Playing this game with an open mind was the best choice by far. If I had read the leaks and seen how agitated some people had gotten, it would've ruined the experience. It is a brilliant game and you can clearly see the 5+ years of development that has gone into it. Well done Naughty Dog, and I sincerely hope the negative reviews haven't affected their decision to make a third iteration.

conclusion It does not force you to empathize with her, she shows you her story ... You can simply hate her as much as she hated joel, the game is crude, in the end ellie does not forgive her for being her, she forgives her because I reflect joel on her when caring for a child in need.

Great graphics, soundtrack and animations. Huge improvement in the gameplay, it feels much more smooth, technical aspects almost perfect. Plot quite simple but really emotional, very well dubbed. There are some problems with the story and the actions of characters but none of them are unreal or impossible in the game context, great overall after all.

I think there are some details about the game that people did not understand well, and they give a bad rating just because the game doesn't have a good ending and other things, i mean yeah it is not the best development of story but is good enough to offer a very good game, stop that stupid hate if you haven't played yet

Buenos gráficos , se nota la evolución desde el juego anterior, la historia es buena y te mantiene en suspenso. Me parece que las críticas son de odio y no reflejan lo bueno que es este juego!

Best game ever. The graphics are incredible and I loved the story. The Naughty Dogs and Creators were very brave to make that story. I've never rated a game at any kind of site, but I'm doing this just to give a little help to this rate because many people haven't played the game and rated very low even they didn't have a full experience of the game. Es un juego muy bueno, lo unico malo son algunos personajes segundarios con los cuales no llegas a conectar y se sienten un tanto innecesarios de ahi en fuera todo es hermoso.

People giving it a bad rating probably haven't played it. Even if you can't get behind the divisive story, you still have to admit that this game is an incredible achievement of graphics and gameplay. The animations of combat are so good that it's hard to believe some encounters aren't scripted. The detail in facial expression makes even LA noire look bad. I personally appreciated the story and new characters so giving this game a 9 is a no brainer for me. People who hated the story still have to give it at least a 7 for its technical achievement. In conclusion, the last of us 2 is an excellent sequel that truly showcases what Naughty Dog has built over the last 15 years. My only complaints are that there is no addition of multiplayero nor any additional gameplay beyond the campaign. New game plus does provide some incentive for replayability however it does not do enough to keep one playing the game for a long time. I gave the last of us 1 a perfect 10 and though this game does not equal the charm and impact of the first, it does live up to the hype and delivers on its promise to improve upon the technical features of the first Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can see why it can be divisive, I felt betrayed and so angry when I had to play as Abby. While watching the credits roll out I understand why now; It's because I missed Joel so much, I kept remembering him and all the beautiful scenes with him, just like Ellie did during the entire experience, reading her diary makes a great difference, so with this in mind, it wouldn't be possible without having to see what Abby experienced so you can have a broader view of all that happened and why, still this does not absolve her of anything, if it were my choice I would definitely drown her, but its not, and Ellie really made the right choice because she saw Joel at the end, she felt all his love and released all the anger she had inside, she burst into tears, something she didn't do during the entire experience, she was just tired of it all, just as we were, I was so stressed the whole game, and then happy and then angry, and then stressed again, and for a game to bring you all this emotions, oh man, that deserves praise, I won't even talk about the gameplay It's just a beauty, organic, smooth, brutal and gratifying.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is an incredible continuation of the first last of us. Joel dying was sad, but it was a driving influence for the entire story, it makes sense. And he did deserve it even if I didn’t want him to die. I had heard that naughty dog were pushing the agenda with Ellie being gay with Dina and the trans character. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that wasn’t the case. People are gay. People are trans. They don’t talk about it a lot throughout and they just try to survive like they should. Felt very real and I was impressed. It’s not a perfect game but it’s close. Expand

Great game. Really tells a story about grief. It is truly upsetting and disturbing, but it is written so damn well. The reason I'm not giving it a 10 is because I felt like it went a little to far with the brutality towards the end of the game.

People can’t get mad when a story that’s dear to their heart doesn’t go the way they wanted, that’s is what a great game is all about. Ground breaking twist during the game that hurt but also drive you to resolve a terrible situation makes a player feel mentally vested.
Joel dying sucks badly (broke my heart) but that’s the way the story was meant to play out, I wish Ella would have had time to say goodbye to Joe but the fact that Ellie didnt just fuels a raging fire in her for revenge.
I hated the Abby portion of the game at first but when you start to understand the mental and physical trauma she endured fires you an understanding of why you killed Joel is such brutal way.
I’m about 10 hours in and I feel I’m not only playing a great game, but I’m reading a great book and watching a great movie, all at once. That at the end if today drive me to give it a 10/10 rating

Gameplay and mechanics are 9/10 (to slow to aim your gun) Graphics and sound are 10/10

Storyline: when I played Ella and was given her background ever more it made me love. Playing Abby sucked for hours but when you started getting her backstory it made me enjoy playing through her store.

All in all. One of the best games ever produced

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
