This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 was hard to get through. The game is very intense and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Graphics: Visually stunning. Environments look realistic with the fantastic lighting. Animations are superb. The characters have weight to them when you move. The game has some of the best looking water I've ever seen.

Sound: This is what made the game so intense and immersive. The calls of the infected are chilling. Killing people was especially gruesome. If you injure someone they'll scream as they bleed out or gurgle through a slit throat.

Gameplay: Here is where I felt the game fell a little flat. Combat is mostly the same from the first game, but the way in which you interact with the environment is vastly improved. Letting players go prone and able to go under structures and vehicles felt really good. The game is exceptionally violent but it does not glorify it.

Story: I liked it a lot. There are major character developments that shake up the series. The story is depressing but in a way that makes sense.

Overall: A 9/10 for me. I had no idea what to expect from it and thoroughly enjoyed the game.

This game is very special in a lot of different ways, I really enjoyed playing through this game and the 20-30 hours playthrough stuck with me long after I had seen the credits.

Most of the criticism other people have stem from the fact the story is not what they wanted/expected from the game. The game takes alot of risks which might not resonate with everyone. The game follows Ellie, after the events of The Last of Us (Part I) Joel and Ellie have settled in Jackson, a settlement run by Joel's brother Tommy and his wife Maria. After a traumatic event, Ellie sets out for revenge on those who wronged her and the ones she loves. This sounds like a classic revenge story but it is much deeper and more nuanced that it might seem at first glance. Like I mentioned before, Naughty Dog took some risks and made some bold choices with some of the characters and events that take place. The game requires you to think about it and play with your brain on. There are multiple layers to the story that get peeled off as you progress through the story. In the end those layers will reveal a bittersweet core that will make you question the character's choices and actions in a haunting and beautiful way. It might not be the story I expected or wanted but in the end I realise it was the story that was needed for the characters we loved. It's an incredibly nuanced story that really forces you to reflect on the characters we love so dearly because of the events of the last game.

Gameplay has been refined by quite a bit compared to the first game. Combat is incredibly grounded and realistic. Enemies are smarter and will make an effort to take you down in various ways. Besides that different factions in the world have different strategies when it comes to combat which makes combat varied, fun and tense. Crafting is still here, there are now more and different recipes which gives you tools to tackle encounters in different ways. Movement has seen improvements, compared to Joel, Ellie controls very different. Ellie is much more agile which again, makes the encounters feel different. The addition of a jump button, although it was marketed as a major feature, was not used a lot. Jumping and going prone was mainly used for environmental puzzles and exploration with the latter also being very useful in combat. Collectibles come in the form of trading cards, artifacts and coins, these are a fun little distraction that can keep you busy while exploring the massive environments Naughty Dog has given us to explore.

Graphically the game is stunning, even on base PS4 visuals and performance of both the game and the hardware are phenomenal. Character models and environments are varied and look incredible. Long grass moves in subtle ways when the wind blows, ice breaks when walking through it, rain drops reflect on metallic objects. Everything looks and feels just right. Combine that with the amazing sound design and you've got yourself an amazing, immersive experience that is rarely topped by other AAA games.

This is definitely one of the most controversial games to have ever come out in the last 20 years. The game is very divisive for alot of people and the reviews reflect that as well. I'll end this review with on of the best quotes I have heard to describe this game.

"If you finish the game wishing you had [spoiler] , you may have won the game you played with your controller but you lost the game Naughty Dog was playing with you"

At first I really liked it, I had my doubts about Joel's death, but in what happened I saw the two sides of the coin and it's those things that leave you thinking that you should never judge without having a base. excellent gameplay and mechanics, the characters that I would like to like were gradually discovering in the end I really liked Abby a very cute personality in my opinion, I liked to see a little more in depth in the character of abby and ellie, and how in the end ellie chose to do the right thing and have peace. I recommend that you finish it before hating it, I hope there is a third part of this fantastic story where you can see abby and ellie again but manage to see more in the field of the infected and see how they evolve over time. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Don’t believe the false negatives! This game is great. Grinded it on survival mode for 31 hours. Fantastic storyline and impeccable character development. From hating Abby, to rooting for her to kill Ellie in the end when you realize she’s actually the more altruistic of the two; this game surely sends you on an emotional rollercoaster. Not to mention the countless deaths of supporting characters you wanted to see thrive (Yara, Jesse, Manny). Joel had it coming and we all know it. The brutal battles scenes and challenging 1v30 WLF/Scar slaughtering served to impress beyond anything Last of Us 1 could offer. Seeing both sides of the story through the eyes of Abby and Ellie was truly masterful by the devs. And left you deeply contemplating who was in the right. On to what I didn’t like .. At times the game would feel very repetitive in that “ok, we’re here and we need to get 5 miles that way through crumbled building and hordes of enemies.” If the battles weren’t so intense and graphically amazing, this would have made a big impact on my score. My final word and issue with the game... Did we really need to go to San Francisco to reach the same outcome? Don’t get me wrong, the battle with the Rattlers is awesome and it felt like they would never stop coming out of the woodwork, but Ithad the same ending that the theater battle had. No one actually believed the devs would kill a changed Abby and protecter of Lev. When Ellie was initially shown at the farm with Dina and JJ, I thought it was over. I hoped it was over! But they instead added that extra bit in San Francisco because they thought it’s what we wanted. It didn’t bother me too much, but I know deep down that it just wasn’t really necessary apart from maybe setting up for Part 3. That’s all, hope you enjoyed my review. Expand

I read all kinds of reviews and mostly people are unhappy with the plot for Abby, and some write about LGBT propaganda, although it is not here. It feels like capricious children were writing. We saw a kiss of two girls - LGBT propaganda. We got the opportunity to see the conflict from different angles and for different characters - draining the plot. It turns out in the first part, when they played for Eli, was it also a plot drain? If your brain is so limited, then play games without a plot.

I will avoid spoilers in this review, with the minor exception of very mild spoilers for the LGBT aspects of the game at the very bottom. It will be marked.

I'm going to start by saying there are currently a lot of bad reviews for this game. As of beating it tonight only 15% of players shared the achievement for completing the game, so take that for what it's worth.

Visually the game is stunning. A lot of love was put into the landscapes and character models and it shows.

The voice acting is, as expected, phenomenal. Ashley Johnson, Troy Baker, Laura Bailey and everyone else involved did an absolutely fantastic job.

The game starts off faster than it probably should. Things happen that set the whole story in motion fairly quickly, and I feel like a little more time should have been given to explore how things had changed in the previous few years and solidifying how new characters fit in and how some relationships have grown and changed since the first game. It slows down a bit and hits a pretty good pace when you get past the opening, however. The game took about 30 hours to complete. It seemed like the perfect length to me.

The story is not one of hope like part 1. It is dark, it is gritty, it is desperate at times. It feels almost a little too one track at times as you rampage from one landmark to another, but after you hit a certain point in the game, the story expands in ways that fill in some of what felt like plot holes and a semi one dimensional story. Don't get me wrong, the game is fun through the beginning, but it makes you question where the story telling of the first game has gone. It makes up for it in spades later on.

Characters are flawed, non-perfect beings, just doing their best to keep surviving this hellish world. The characters interactions from the plot to enemies interacting on the battlefield feel real. They feel human. Combat is similar to part one, but feels a little smoother. Once you take a little time it feels good for the most part, but a little clunk now and then. Encounters have really varying dynamics depending on enemy types, but all types will keep you on your toes with different mechanics. It's varied enough in encounter types that it never feels too stale, and will really get the heart pumping from time to time. Enemies are a lot more unpredictable at times than you might expect, adding a little flavor to your stealthy fights. When your cover is blown it can feel like a bit of a struggle cycling through weapons and supplies, trying to assure you keep enough meager supply for the next inevitable fight. It feels like you are really surviving off of whatever bits and pieces you can find, and really adds to reminding you of the post apocalyptic world you are in.

Last thing I want to touch on is that yes, there are LGBT themes in the game. People seem to be making mountains out of molehills on this.

    **possible mild spoilers,I guess**

The world of Last of Us Part II is diverse. Characters are a hodge podge of survivors, just doing their best to survive. We've known Ellie was gay since the first games DLC. People have seemed shocked about it. The game neither villifies her sexuality, nor glorifies it. It just is. It's not made to be a big deal besides a little bit of bigotry happening briefly to show it's still not completely accepted in this new world. There is also a Trans character that is acknowledged as being trans, but similarly just kind of is. It does have minor implications on the story line, but isn't made to be a huge deal.

I found it to be tastefully done. It's how I would like more LGBT characters to be treated in media. The struggles are acknowledged, the characters are neither villafied or glorified for it, and the characters are not defined by their sexuality, it's just one of many aspects of who they are.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoyed the game personally.

My review will mainly talk about the story and my experience.

I loved the first game and honestly thought they weren't going to do a sequel. Finding out that a sequel was being made, I was really looking forward to the release and was hoping for a game as moving as the first. As the release date got closer, I did hear about the game receiving negative reviews from people, but I wanted to play the game myself, because I loved the first and wanted to see how they continued Joel and Ellie's story.

I played the game without watching any trailers except a small section of the dance scene. After finishing the game, I saw the trailers and read reviews both positive and negative. I honestly believe that it was wrong for Naughty Dog to edit a scene in the trailer to make players believe Joel would be by your side throughout the game.

From reading and watching other reviews, I understand why players decided to quit the game after Joel's death. I do think it was out of character for Joel to not be able to see that it was an ambush especially since it was the driving point of the entire game. I understand why players quit when they had to play Joel's killer, Abby.

I felt uncomfortable playing Abby because I had an immediate bias towards Joel and Ellie. As a player, I'm shown that I eventually will come back to Ellie at the theater. At this point, I felt annoyed and angry to have to play Joel's killer, but seeing Abby's back story, she had a reason to kill Joel regardless if the player agrees or not. At the point of arriving outside the theater, I was still on Ellie's side. I wanted to delay the inevitable as much as possible. Once the chase sequence started, I felt so uncomfortable running after Ellie. I immediately wasted Abby's bullets not wanting to shoot Ellie. Then I had to fight Ellie and in this moment, I was reminded of the scene in the first game in which Ellie had to sneak around to attack David. I kept hesitating and stopping to let Ellie win, but eventually I continued the game.

Seeing Ellie have a family and home, I really thought this would be the end. Then Ellie decided she had to finish the job.

I was ready to kill Abby for Joel, but finding Abby in a weak state it didn't feel right for me to fight her at that moment.

The ending was moving for me. It wasn't a happy ending, but it made me question so much about the choices made to get to this point even though I had no control over the character's decisions.

I enjoyed the game for the fact that it gave me an experience I never had before.

I find it fascinating to see the conflicting views between players, because the story itself became so much more than a hero defeating the villain which was what I was expecting after Joel's death. It gives the player the chance to reflect on the actions they made as Joel in the end of the first game. The player can decide to change how they feel about certain characters or not. The player can expect a certain ending, but the game makes the choices and the player can only decide how to feel about it. Whether you liked the game or not, it's ultimately your choice as the player to decide how you feel about the game.

Im not here to say this game was perfect but i will start by saying that most of the people who are this game is bad a re just upset that Naughtydog killed Joel and while yes his death wasnt what i would want to see happen it set up a well written narrative that I enjoyed a while lot and to those who say that Ellie acted out of character think about what you would do if you lost your father the man who raised you. The gameplay was very exciting and while very similar to the first game it still had new elements to keep you on edge I didnt enjoy playimg abby as much as I did Ellie I respect the idea of humanizing the "villian" For those who think the game was bad I dont expect you to like or agree with Naughtydogs ideas but you have to agree that the story is still phenominal and the time and effort put into it makes it one to love. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    Bien hecho, Naughty Dog!

I think what people are forgetting is the amazing journey of the last of us where a reluctant Joel takes Ellie on a journey to help humanity, in this journey its highlighted that Ellie needs Joel in both the connection built but also gameplay survival.
The sequel finds Ellie and other characters take on the 'alpha' role in gameplay and assisting side characters as a full circle moment. This game demonstrates the vicious cycle of good vs evil and in who's eyes that can be perceived.
Remember that Joel did a questionable deed at the end of part 1.
In a quest for vengeance that the game makes you want badly you find yourself feeling disturbed by the actions taken by the games lead character. When you play as the other perspective you really dislike the playing initially and I found myself rushing this story arch. Amazingly the game forces you to learn and grow with the character and start to understand their side of the feeling of torment and destruction brought upon their life from actions in the first game.
However, you still want your vengeance as Ellie. Once you get to the point of vengeance you don't really want Ellie to do it as you have become disturbed with how vengeful the character has become and lost who she is. It feels as though Ellie in her final fight realises that this path has cost her everything and more due to her actions and yet Joel knew what he did was wrong in the first but could live with that decision. He would not have wanted Ellie to become who she has. It ends with her accepting that this vengeful path has no end and the game manages to make you feel at peace with liking your lead character again. Any other route would have lead to a slight distaste for Ellie herself for myself The game has you encounter many other tribes and factions in the second and can lead you to believe and think that the distruction you cause may have hurt or messed with the wrong tribe causing another endless cycle of vengence as everybody is the good guy in their story and everyone is the bad guy.

At points playing as other characters that were affected by Joels actions in the first they end up hurting their own faction and in gameplay you hear them state they will do what it takes or "kill every last one" all for what they did. This is showing them to be the same as Joel yet initially being against his actions. Making you the user realise that no one is truly good and will do whatever it takes in order to do the 'good' they perceive.

Thoroughly enjoyable to play that leaves you emotionally drained. Some charater movements were still rough, such as supporting AI walking into you and this pushes you out from cover or hinders your movement. The main charater should cause the AI to move out of the way when you run near buy in this the AI was an immovable wall causing some frantic scenes of fighting to cause annoying deaths. Also occasional lead cahratee bugs such as Ellie's phantom broke arm that disrupted being able to aim properly. This was fixed by having to reset that save point but still small issues that should be experience with a game of this level and time in development. These small but disruptive issues that break up the enjoyable experience drop my score from a 9/10 to 8.5/10

Love the game, the direction and message and truly holds up the last of us deep and disturbing storylines

Worth a play for everyone to make their minds up. Very much a film game that heavily carried by the storys emotional journey

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I got acquainted with the first part already in the reissue on PS4. The game undoubtedly hooked me and settled in my heart, and the news of the sequel made me just tremble. I was impatient to see the old characters after many years, to find out what became of them and what path they went through. And I got it all in the second part.
From the first sight, the first sound, you feel the love of the creators. You look at Joel, Tommy, and Ellie, and you remember how the journey was made. However, this path was a stumbling block. When you finished the first part, did you have any questions? Did Joel do the right thing? As a father, Yes, but as a person on whom the survival of the species depends? Many people looked at what was happening through the prism of the fact that they were killing simple bots, but after all, in the essence of the story itself, there were the same people trying to survive in that disgusting world. And as we see, there are no actions that have passed without a trace. I didn't see any spoilers, but I suspected that something would happen to Joel either off-screen or in-frame. And so it turned out.
A question for those who think the game is bad because Joel was killed: "Why?" You know what kind of world the game is in. This is not a Marvel's happy ending. Here, death can occur at any moment. Killing Joel is a great scenario solution, showing that if you bring death yourself, you can't hide from it later. The character of Abby is not just a woman with cans, like a bodybuilder, and squeezing heavy weights. Yes, it may have been different, as it may not have been LGBT ideas, but this is the world where we live. But the plot of all this does not change its essence. Drakman-well done, that was not afraid to reduce the impact of all this to a minimum.
The character Abby turned out to be well-written with a story that you understand. She has a difficult fate, like everyone else in the game. But people see only a shell, inside which a person is just as vulnerable and weak, who wants justice. The characters of Dean and Jessie were not very clear. They were not enough to understand who and what they were.
In General, the plot is good, not without flaws, but there will never be an ideal scenario in the world. There will always be victims for the sake of history.

Gameplay of the game has made a leap forward. Of course, the base remained unchanged-craft and stealth. But the new interaction with the world just blows your head off. Gorgeous interaction with the world, combat and stealth tactics are infinitely diverse, you do not feel safe even in apparently empty places where no one is present. Enemies are not stupid bots, as in 95% of games, you are not allowed to sit still not in battle, not in stealth, and the success of survival is only your skill. I can scold only for the prolonged action towards the end, or I just got too full of it. There are no comments about the image and sound - 10/10. I wanted to explore the world more and more, so the presence of only one open location for research is upsetting, I would like more.

I don't know why people don't see the pros of the game, but only the cons. If you are fixated on Dina's armpits, then the very movements that irritate you have won. You didn't see the game, you only saw the cover, which had a small scratch on it that you stuck to.

The Last of Us is quite possibly my favorite game of all time. I have been playing video games my entire life but have always been drawn to games with a message or a story to tell. I have been playing video games my entire life but have always been drawn to games with a message or a story to tell. When I first saw the trailer for TLOU years ago, I thought to myself, “they’ve finally made a game for me”, in the sense that, here’s a game with a grounded and brutal story with what seemed to be a fantastic script and fully realized characters. As a huge film fan, this was extremely exciting news. In the final moments of TLOU, when Ellie mutters “...Okay” and it cuts to black, I knew that I had just experienced something game changing, for the video game industry and pop culture in general. I have been anticipating this game (Part 2) ever since I put that DualShock 3 down and stared in awe at the credits, contemplating the morally gray decision Joel had just made. It’s a damn shame moments from this game were leaked. I tried to go in blind but no matter how hard I tried, there was always some dingus posting unfunny memes in an attempt to “troll” whoever they could. This game is so much more than those out of context moments. This game makes you reconsider everything you have experienced and learned from Part 1. From it’s shocking beginning to it’s heartbreaking ending, this game is pure art, through and through. The attention to detail is downright astounding and the gameplay hooked me so much, I checked my clock and 7 hours had gone by in an instant. Although, these aspects aside, we all know where the divisiveness really comes from, its story. Personally, I loved it. I beat the game about 4 or 5 days ago now, I’m already on my new game plus on Survivor, and eventually will be going for the plat, but no game has stuck with me this long. The story has burrowed its way into my mind and I haven’t been able to get it out. When I initially finished it, I was confused, hunting for meaning in it all. After sitting and contemplating, I believe it to be one of the best stories I have ever experienced through the medium of video game. In a world of cookie cutter stories, spoon feeding us the things we want because we know they will make us feel good, Naughty Dog has dared to pull a move and challenge its audience. At first, I was extremely apprehensive, “Why are they doing this? What is the point?” But after the credits rolled, it all made sense to me. I appreciate when something differs from the norm and oh boy did this do that. If you haven’t played the game, go in with an open mind, ignore the leaks, and just give it a chance. If you still genuinely don’t like it (for non-bull**** reasons) then there you go, but you may be surprised how you feel when you let go of your pre conceived notions. This game isn’t perfect though, I do think there are some pacing issues but other than that, I see no other glaring problems. This game will challenge you and your expectations, let it and embrace it. For me this is a phenomenal achievement and I’m so happy to have played it day one and own a copy. This will go down in the history books of gaming whether for good reasons or bad. There is so much more I would love to discuss but I wanted to keep this spoiler free so those on the fence or those who just haven’t had the means to play it yet could read this. I’ll sum it up with this, I loved all of the characters, even if it took me a few hours to understand certain things, I thought the ending was damn perfect and got a few tears out of this old cynic (along with many other moments throughout), and finally, the story was exactly what it needed to be, every bump along the way made perfect sense in this brutal and violent world. Please play this game, I couldn’t recommend it more. Thank you. Expand

Environment details are incredible just as interaction with them. Cutscenes are the best what we could have ever seen and I am almost losing sight if this is still a game or real life cutscenes. As before the music made by Gustavo Santoalalla is just emotional and fits perfectly. Enemies are smart, well not as smart as on E3 in 2018 but a really good one. There is no multiplayer in the launch of the game but they say it will be there soon. Ofcourse the bigger problem is the story. More specificly the way it is delivered. I do not see a problem with the decisions and the story how it was made. Bigger problem is how it was written. It almost seems like a huge pile of mess laying on each other. Just as everyone I am not a big fan playing as the second main character (we all know what she has done) but I must say that it was much more cinematic and funnier experience then playing as Ellie(because playing as Ellie you play in bigger environments). The problem is that they want to make us sympathize us with this character but they do a **** work with that. Also I do not see a problem with the characters and the way they were written. Just the way the game presents them and the way how the developers wants you to see them. Like for instance the charachter that looks exactly the same way like directer Neil Druckmann looks like. This character is the way how I imagine a person that when you would saw them you would burn them to crisps if you would have the chance but the developers for some reason wants you to see him in a good light. Why? I do not know. No one knows. And the same goes for a lot of characters. The last thing is the ending and oh my god I have never seen so long ending since the RDR2 but you know what is the difference? In RDR2 the ending is 4 times longer but is much more satisfying than this. Over all I do not think this game deserves this reviews. For me it is solid 8,5/10 but because of the reviews I choose 9 instead of 8. Expand

BUT exactly this is what makes this game so unique. The Problem is that we as Players love Ellie and Joel so much and identify with then that we are Not able to see things from an objektive point of view. Think about it..what makes joel and elli better then abby and there friend, or all the people they killed during their journey?
This game wants the Player to see things from a hole different perspective and exactly this is the method to Show us the brutal world of the last of us.
It hurts to be honest but on the other side its what makes this game so damn realistic.

For me it was really to much, but i respect what they did there.

Before I will explain why I enjoyed this game, if you yourself didn't or would like to understand the hatred this game receives, there is something at the end of my review for you. (Also this is my first written review for anything so far. I hope you'll understand my point of view tho)

The dialogs and cut scenes are beautifully crafted and the mo-cap acting is phenomenal. The big strength of the game is the first half in my opinion. Unfortunately I couldn't fully connect with Abby and her agenda in the second half of the game, but there are some key moments in this game that just make it beautiful. The story itself is very complex in its telling but the player never loses the thread. The gameplay itself is visceral with improved AI behavior and engaging combat encounters.

I think the reason this game is either loved or hated is because this games makes you FEEL so much while playing it and leaves you rather empty at the end. Most of the time you don't "enjoy" the game, because it gives you the bitter taste of hatred the characters feel for each other (but in a good way, if that makes sense?). But there is a very strong contrast between love and hate in this game and this duality is beautiful in my opinion.

In the end, wehter you liked or disliked the games, I think we all can an agree that the game made us feel something and moved us (in what sense is up to you).

1.) there are stories that aren't about straight, white men contained in this game. If that triggers you or bums you out, maybe play madden or something.

2.) there are stories that don't have a happy ending for characters you may have grown to love. If getting non-happy endings triggers you or bums you out, play something else.

Now that we've addressed the majority of the negative reviews (lol, right?) lets talk about the game itself:

The Last of Us 2 is brutal. Absolutely brutal. Only a handful of games have made me deep sigh and look around the room to see if anyone can tell how devastated I am (TLOU 1 included). This game does a masterful job of conveying the human element of the incredibly tough choices that we make, and more importantly, why we make them. There is no clear "right or wrong" in this game (with the exception of the rattlers being a **** faction but they were tacked on at the end). And even when you think you might be doing the right thing, the game presents alternative perspectives that make you truly question your choices (forced or otherwise).

Gameplay wise, the game is nearly perfect. Everything feels updated from the first game, and updated in a way that enhances an actions original purpose. In addition to crouching, we can lay and crawl from a prone position. We can set traps now, further adding a layer of depth to tense stealth standoffs vs infected and enemy factions. And the addition of things like bleed damage due to arrow wounds adds a whole new sense of danger and urgency.

The level design is pretty great, albeit linear, but that is to be expected from a naughty dog production. The earth reclamation porn is on full display as you traverse post apocalyptic seattle. And boy, does it look incredible.

The Last Of US 2 is a fantastic game, but I recognize opinions are subjective. If you can envision a pre-fargo cohen bros movie about the brutality of humanity in crisis set in a zombie apocalypse against a beautiful, overgrown, post viral pacific northwest backdrop, you should give this a shot (after you play the first one of course).

And take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. A lot of people get bummed about stories that don't centralize around a straight male protagonist. So bummed that they take valuable time out of their busy day to log into a review site and crap on a game they haven't actually played.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I obviously can see the flaws in the story. But in my opinion the way everything was structured just worked for me. Playing abby in the second half of the game was honestly one of the hardest things i had to do. Yes it felt wrong. But the longer i played the more it really did make u realise that nobody is the good guy. And Ellie and Joel aren't good people. Watching Ellies downfall in emotion was tragic and in my opionion well paced. She was acting in the moment after Joels death and never thought twice about her motive. This was also enhanced by the fact that Tommy felt the same grief and wanted revenge aswell. It was an emotional rolercoaster and seeing Ellie crack and become more and more desparate was at times overwhelming. The flashbacks for me were well needed and decent. I actually like the fact that Ellie didn't kill Abby because she realised that the revenge just wasnt worth it. Losing Joel was hard enough and now she has lost the ability to do the one thing she had left from him (Playing the guitar). Also not killing abby was also similar to when Abby had the choice to kill Dina but Lev acted as her conscience and decided against it. Both characters have anger. Both want revenge. But Ellie became the better person (Even though she killed a lot of people) and let her good memories of Joel take over. I personally loved the game. Was it sad and depressing? Yes. Was it what i was expecting? No. But i can look past that and understand that not everything is made to make people happy with an outcome? Yes! And this game did that brilliantly! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As time goes on we can start to see the reviews from the people who ACTUALLY played the game and didn't jump to the fanboy/hate bandwagon.

I would rate it a solid 9.5 but since it is not possible i'll settle for a 9.

The gameplay is improved in every way imaginable from the first game, it feels heavy and meaningful, you actually feel bad killing most of the time.

The graphics are (in my opinion) the best we have seen from the ps4.

Here comes the "controversial" part, the story. It is a sotry about revenge, about a cycle of seemingly never ending violence.
Joel's death lights the fuze for this story of revenge, making you HATE Abby and wanting to kill her at all costs. But as time goes on and you get to play as Abby (i'd say probably 1/3rd of the game?) you get to see that like Ellie and Joel, she too has a family and some friends to protect, an active comunity.

At the end of the first game i kept trying to excuse Joel from the countless murders and the dooming of hope for finding a cure. "He killed a lot of people... but he did it for Ellie" i thought.
This time is the other way around, i was starting to undertand Abby and why she did what she did while at the same time trying to hate her. "She saved some kids from certain death BUT she killed Joel".

No other game has ever given me an experience sush as this one.

Despite all of this i too would have liked to see Abby die (which is why i rated it 9.5 and not 10), but i understand why Ellie ended up not doing it. She finally breaks the circle or death, hate and revenge and becomes "the better woman", in a sense, better than Joel was.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have never experienced a game like this before and have spent countless hours sitting and trying to understand the feelings I have and the meaning behind the game.

Firstly, The gameplay, graphics, and world are both amazing, that alone makes this one of the best games I have ever played. Never have I been so stressed about attacking an enemy or entering a new area. The game nails this atmosphere, it feels like I am in that world, each encounter with enemies is almost unwanted and frustrating. Infected encounters suck and really add to the experience of being trapped in this terrible world. Every building I entered for supplies, I'd have to evaluate if it was even worth risking running into infected, where in other games the mindset is to just shoot and loot.

As for the story, I think the Abby gameplay could have implemented better, I have no problem playing as her, I just believe where the transition was placed, the game loses a lot of momentum and I found myself unmotivated for the first couple missions because of all the excitement of the Ellie story.

That being said, when the two stories intersect with Abby and Manny taking on the sniper, I thought that was where the game really picked up the pace. That experience was amazing, I knew it was Tommy and I was so excited to Abby to realize the **** she caused when she discovered it was Tommy.

However another gripe I have it the choice to play as Abby in the fight with Ellie, I think this was a total immersion breaker. There was no way I was going to wholeheartedly attack Ellie. In my playthrough I actually let Ellie kill Abby multiple times before I even tried to fight back. This scene is my biggest complaint, but it's only from a gameplay perspective, I think the actual scene was well executed and I understand the actions the characters made.

Now for the hard part, I wish the game had ended at the farm. I know it couldn't, but it hurt me more than anything else to see Ellie throw her life away for revenge. I feel the worst for Dina whose only mistake was to care for a person who like a drug addict couldn't care about anything else. I know most players were angry that Ellie didn't kill Abby at the end but I was just so mad that Ellie would even go to Santa Barbara that I wasn't even thinking about whether I wanted Abby dead or not. In the end I think the game made the right choice. If Ellie killed Abby I think she would have sat on that beach and realized that she didn't feel different. There is no way for her pain over Joel's death to end unless she grieves and she couldn't do that while dead set on revenge. While it sucks that Abby is alive and I know Joel would have stopped at nothing to kill her, Ellie isn't Joel and I don't think she needs that to heal. Killing Abby would have left Lev in the same way Ellie was left and I think Ellie realized that.

Coming home to the empty house and not being able to play guitar devastated me. Ellie had talked about teaching J.J. to play guitar and now she couldn't even do that. But I think its symbolic of her free from Joel's power over her life. At the very end, she lost everything, but it was the first time that she could live the life she wanted for herself, independent of the choices others make for her. So people can be mad at what they want, but in my opinion, the Last of us is Joel's story, and part 2 is Ellie's. The whole game is her journey to coming to terms with her relationship with Joel and I think in the end that was executed very well even if it was so painful to endure.

Like I said, I've never experienced anything like this and don't know if I could ever play through the game again, but the experience was amazing and I'm glad I've played it. I hope they don't make a sequel to Ellie because I like to hope she makes the choices she wants to give her life the meaning shes been looking for ever since Joel took that from her. Plus I love Dina and that baby and think Joel would be happy to see Ellie happy with a family.

As for the plot - the story is not badly written, not by a long shot. Honestly, the way in which this story was crafted is nothing short of genius. Ellie and Abby mirror each other. While they view one another to be the villain, they're really one and the same, which calls into question the topic of right, wrong, and morally gray, all while serving as a powerful caveat for those who may be seeking revenge.

Story definitely not going to please everyone, but try to move past the expectations you have coming into the game and give it a shot and you may enjoy it. Though "enjoy" might not be the right word since this is one of the bleakest games ever. Still, I personally liked the nuances of the story and found it deeply engaging, heartbreaking, and intense. They took a lot of risks with this story, and while not all of them pay off, I think overall they succeeded.
Other than the story, which has understandably divided fans, everything else is top notch as expected. I've always loved TLOU gameplay, and this just improves everything I liked. Graphics, music, sound design, acting, all top notch.
Still, I will say, Last of Us 1 is my favorite game, and this one doesn't come close to it, though it's hard to beat one of the best games ever made. Additionally if you loved the first game, it is hard to play this one and see all the characters you love go through absolute hell, and I get why people don't like it. I still think it's worth playing and forming your own opinions on it. And in the end if you don't enjoy it, that's fine have you're opinion just like I have mine, just don't be a jerk about it like so many are right now.

The biggest and one of the strongest Emotional spectrum of what game can makes you to feel . Love,Hate, fear, sadness, revenge taste, and even a depression of how strong this apocalyptic world feels real. Gameplay is great, Only reason why this game is not 10/10 is when you are like me who enjoys exploring every part of such a world and tries to take it as much real experience as possible with slow crouch quite walking and Pre - ADS aiming in every risky corner or area as you would do in real life if you would want survive ofc ... then you will get lil bit punished by too longer phases in between of story telling because as some people are saying its already long even if you run it like in Arcade which would definitely ruin real feel of this experience which other wise this world and game can definitely offer you on another level if we are not including RDR2. Another thing that makes me to not give this other wisely epic game full of revenge and post apo feel is for me atleast not sympathetic story ending which could have been done better or changed completely. But I think problem with this is the reality that everyone would act differently as a person in such a situation and its most likely not happening this way in real life with all the emotions that humans being can feel. So thats why I didn't believe Ellie would spared Abby's life right after she bite off her fingers with all those adrenaline and emotions it would not happen. And also i didn't believe Ellie could get over her PTSD because she clearly wasn't psychopathic person but highly emotional and all what happened and led her to that final last guitar play with missing fingers and Dina,JJ would probably be too hard to get over with her highly emotional personality so thats why even i sympathize with Ellie so much i predicted seeing her walking out (camera look from that window) commiting some suicidal act. Thats why I think there is so many negative reviews because people can't see that logic ending of this story because it made more damage than benefit to Ellie and her emotions, closer ones. But truth is thats how life sometimes is ,even the whole universe has no real deeper sense behind him and that's why I can forgive it to this story ending because besides it as a whole, it was some post apo revenge emotionally real feel experience ride.

I really enjoyed playing this game, it forced you to realize that the people you kill in the game are much more than an enemy without feelings. It makes me sad that people are too upset over the death of Joel to see how refreshing it was to see the story from the other side. A concept that is rarely explored in games.
It was such a long time ago since i played the first game that I don't feel too bad about Joel dyeing or having to hurt Ellie whilst playing as Abby. So maybe that's why I didn't mind the story. But I also felt that Abby was just as justified in her actions as Joel and Ellie were. I guess I would have made the story a bit different myself but like I said, the change of perspective was really fun. That type of storytelling have a special place in my heart and I have a hard time agreeing with people who are too upset about Joel's death to see any positives in the story. I also feel as if they are missing the point of why Ellie didn't end up killing Abby. Just as we saw how every story has more than one side to it, so did Ellie. So in the end she couldn't justify Abby. And to me, that was the message of the game.
It was not as good as the first one but I definitely think it's worth playing.

First I want to say that it is very sad that many people give bad ratings without even playing or criticizing about the progressivism of the game, which is very well implemented since, unlike the latest Disney movies, where they throw their entire political agenda in your face , this game that teaches by example without giving it more importance.
This game is amazing, the story is not bad, the only problem is some bad decisions, which I personally loved to play right now, but in the end they do more harm than good.

Environments felt realistic and traversing them was satisfying, though I do wish there was another large open area like downtown Seattle. The story was a rollercoaster of emotions and left me thinking about the ending for days. Characters felt fleshed out, though I didn't always agree with the I did understand their motivations. By the end of the game I was so angry and disappointed with Ellie after throwing her life with Dina away to chase after meaningless revenge, though I'm glad she learned how to let go of her hate in the final moment. Hated Abby at first, loved her by the end and glad Lev has someone looking out for him (but maybe give us a Yara/Lev DLC please?). I understand why people are angry about Joel's death, I was too but let's not act like Abby and her friend's anger wasn't justified as well, from their perspective Joel killed their family and friends and the last hope of a cure that I will admit was always a longshot but something they truly believed in. Anyway, of you're a fan of the first game, if you're open to being challenged emotionally by a game, don't miss out on this.

Unpopular opinion: This is a great game. It is actually a really awesome example of truly immersive impactful gaming and storytelling.

The detail in level design and world-building is beyond anything done before IMO. This game takes you from forests to skyscrapers to aquariums and much much more and everything feels lived in and immersive. True, the gameplay can be repetitive at times

The detail in level design and world-building is beyond anything done before IMO. This game takes you from forests to skyscrapers to aquariums and much much more and everything feels lived in and immersive. True, the gameplay can be repetitive at times (find supplies, craft, sneak, kill repeat) but again the level design and beautiful animations and atmosphere, as well as just an unbelievable amount of lore and details, make it all so so worth playing and experiencing!

But hey I know this **** storm is all about the story and people are upset clearly, so here goes: I honestly have enough distance to the source material (the first game) to be able to say that the story in this part 2 DOES NOT SUCK...this is a story of revenge but also of humanity and how in times of huge crisis we are always at risk of losing that humanity as people have different views and hardships and end up killing each other for what they believe in to survive. But at the end of the day, every “villain” is simply a daughter/son/father/mother, etc. they are human with emotional background and more or less relatable behavior and backstory. In this game maybe for the first time ever has a developer made a HUGE effort to give every faction (even zombies a little bit) a human backstory. The revenge and vengeance are just part of the story, it is also just about the horror of warfare and the divide of humanity in general. You truly start to feel the impact of your killing of enemies in this game instead of 99% of other games that throw mindless hordes of flat “bad guys” at you, that you will kill with no one ever questioning the act of violence and killing.

Ok truly, I agree Joel deserved to go out with more of a bang but It sounds like everyone has forgotten that he literally went on a KILLING SPREE of the people trying to save humanity from a horrible virus?!?! Joel is a good guy and loves Ellie more than anything so it made sense for him to save her BUT all of those lives are lost too and they had a similar love for their people so it only makes f***ing sense to highlight that trauma instead of just forgetting it ever happened and moving on living happily ever after. Joel’s story was beautiful and unfortunately, he got punished for his decision but that’s what happens in the REAL world and this is at the end of the day a story that may very well play out similar in a real apocalypse scenario ( that is what real lifelike immersion should try to do). Please go ahead and try to change my mind. I don’t get why everyone is crying about what the story is not...IT IS a lot of effort by a lot of passionate people who made a tough decision to go a new route in this game. Why can you not accept a new compelling perspective that tells a more broad story of survival and hardship?

TL;DR: This is a beautiful game with a compelling immersive story that is worth experiencing for yourself. If you have the narrow mindedness and expectation of a zombie the story may not do exactly what you wanted BUT I promise you this game shows in every scene the accumulation of years of creative passionate craftsmanship in gaming.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game felt a lot like the first one with a new theme and story. It's a layered tale with a somewhat murky ending. It's emotionally jarring but I feel like that was the intention. The gameplay is excellent for those who enjoy interactive movies. If you're already closed to the experience though, it will be hard to get into it. Personally I enjoyed a story about revenge, regret, and mourning. It's a look at a grief process in a world gone violent. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
