This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Beautiful graphics, good music, no real change in controls or game play but that's not necessarily a bad thing but I was hoping for something more. I enjoy a good revenge story but this ain't it chief. Story was drawn out way too long and relied on flashbacks for feel good moments to cover up Joel's crappy death and the fact they made Joel and Tommy looked like idiots to kick start the revenge plot. Other than those flashbacks, the game is practically devoid of any lighthearted moments like that were in the first game.

The story and characters are the weakest element in this game. If you want to turn your brain off to go on a killing spree and watch a bunch of cinematics, this is the game for you. Everything else was good to great.

Abby killing Joel because of revenge, and through the game she leaves and betrays everyone to take care of a child, just like Joel in the first game! And Ellie realizing that just before killing her just made the experience mind blowing and amazing! Gameplay and animations were on point. Also, all the new bits and evolution of the relationship between Joel and Ellie was really wholesome to watch. Other point that stood out in this game was the brutality and just reality in which we as players faced through the characters, it was just an unique experience!! Expand

It moves the plot forward, creates new conflict, etc. Not everyone's has a happy ending, plus the LGBT+ representation makes for a game with lot of diversity. Thank you for making this, I appreciate it. And I hope the rest of the people do too. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A fair honest review from my opinion. Played on survival mode. Took 27hrs to finish. Took my time looking for everything the game had to offer.

Literally made this account to give the game some good press. I really dont see the problem people are having it's a really good game. Yes Joel dies and its rough to accept but to be honest it's nearly expected. Least they weren't afraid to kill off a main character. Even better that it was early cause I thought it fueled revenge mission even better. Was not expecting the twist at all were you would play as Abby for the second half of the game. You get a completely different perspective on the story. In her shoes I dont blame her and for what she done, just wasnt expecting a full side of the game based on her. Overall I thought her story was enjoyable and basically giving the chance to play as the villain while the stuff was happening that you did in the first half. Even though you start to like the character by the end of the story I still wanted Ellie to finish the job. The game should have give a choice to kill or let go like the previous game. There could have been a few instances were choices could have affected the story. Gameplay itself is excellent. The gun combat and stealth system is top notch. Can really feel every bullet, club, knife and explosion hit home. Some of the kill scenes are brutally violent I love it. The zombies are horrific as usual and fun to deal with. The introduction of dogs made human combat more interesting and definitely forced a full on gun fight on some occasions. The upgrade system was decent even for a story based game like this. Could have done with a few more open areas like they introduced early in the game. Most of the game is pretty linear but there are multiple ways to get the job done. Some of the areas are big enough and I really enjoyed the looting aspect and finding supplies. I played the game on survival mode but overall didnt have to much hassle for supplies. Always seemed to have enough of everything. By the end I had nearly all the guns upgraded and both characters nearly fully upgraded perk wise. I would play stealthy but there was a good few instances of straight up gun fights which were a nice change of pace. Really needs that grounded difficulty which hopefully comes out at some stage. Graphics are some of the best I've seen this generation. Just everything looks amazing. Sound and music design too absolutely top notch. Few scenes with headphones on were brilliant with the surround sound really gave a full fear factor in some scenes. Hospital comes to mind with Abby.

Overall for me I really enjoyed the game. The gameplay and graphics are some of the best of this generation. Naughty Dog definitely took some risks story wise that I would say almost payed off. I would have like to have more choices in the decisions of the story. Other than that I think the twists are great and I got a few shocks regarding some of stuff that happens. There could have been more backstory to the likes of Abby and more interactions with Joel and Ellie. I see a lot user reviews bombing the games story but I think they were expecting something different were everyone survived. Naughty Dog made a good game here. But it could have been a great game. For me the story is the only let down but I'm still rating this story at a fair score.100% will play the game again when it more than likely comes out for PS5 with hopefully a grounded difficulty.

Overall, this is a great game, despite it being different from what I expected in multiple ways, the most prominent being the story. I'll be reviewing the game by category, then adding up the categories to create a numerical score.

Gameplay: The gameplay is excellent. It is incredibly smooth, and while it is similar to the gameplay of the original game, it feels very refined and in general is faithful to the original while also being improved. The combat also feels quite good, with weapons feeling very substantial and rewarding to use. 10/10.

Graphics: This may be the best looking game available on console right now. The scenery is beautiful and the character models are excellent. There really is nothing to complain about as far as graphics are concerned, and thus, 10/10.

Sound: Like the graphics, the sound is excellent. The guns sound as substantial as they feel, if not more so. The environments also sound fantastic. The voice acting is wonderful, especially from Troy Baker (Joel) and Ashley Johnson (Ellie). 10/10.

Story: The story is by far the most controversial part of this game, with many people disliking the direction of the developers. Unlike some people, I have finished the game and intentionally waited to review it until then. Overall, the story is good, but not great. I would perhaps have made some different choices than the developers did, but they do a good job telling the story nonetheless. It is not as good as the first game, but I believe part of that sentiment is caused by the fact that this game is much darker. The tension between the characters is noticeable and well-done, and while some people may not like the fact that the multiple stories are told in a way that sometimes feels somewhat stilted or disjointed, I did not find it to be a big issue. The end of the game does a good job of tying all of the stories together and the narrative ends up being powerful, if somewhat less than ideal for some players. 7/10.

Fun factor: Overall, I had fun playing The Last of Us Part II. Some will call it a walking simulator with a small amount of combat, and while cutscenes are very prevalent, I think calling the game a walking simulator is unfair. If anything, it is an interactive movie. Like I mentioned earlier, I thought the combat was good and I enjoyed the many times I had to fight. I have played games that were more fun than TLOU2, but I found it to be more enjoyable than most. 8/10.

In conclusion, I found The Last of Us Part II to be fairly well-told story that was dark and emotional. I enjoyed my experience, which was carried largely by the excellent presentation and fun, substantial feeling combat. All together, I give this game 45/50, or 9.0.

However, playing this game is like watching a ridiculous movie that makes no sense whatsoever. Joel in TLOU told Ellie never trust people out there. But in TLOU II, Joel be like: "Hi, I'm Joel and this is my brother. We live nearby and my SSN is 12345."
I almost stopped playing when the game let you play Abby. I just don't care about her or what she has been through. What is worse is the ending. I know people have different perspectives of revenge. But ellie killed hundreds of people just to meet this Abby girl but enventually let her go? Man this game is bold! Such a risk taken by Naughty Dog in terms of narration! I feel like the ambition to create more than a game but rather an emotional experience completely explains why the reviews are so divisive today.
It must be quite complex to try and decipher the human mind in order to engineer such a journey. And surely... impossible to hit the bull's eye for everyone.

To be honest, I'm not quite sure it actually fully worked for me, even though I'm convinced I will not forget this story any soon. I'm still collecting my thoughts several days after finishing the game.
In its own way (and unprecedented in the medium I feel) it is a masterpiece in what it tries to achieve. It just isn't the game everyone was waiting for.

I give it a 9 mainly due to some downtimes in the storyline. Graphics, animations, music and emotional parts are top notch. I also found the game-play a lot more interesting and rewarding compared to the first opus.

In a nutshell, as a piece of art this game is absolutely unique. As a game it is quite fun even though a bit long at times. As a story, it is definitely one to remember.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I took 4 days to play through the game completely and thoroughly. Roughly 30 hours on moderate difficulty. I strongly agree with the critic reviews. This game is fantastic. Violent, brutal, and traumatizing. It speaks strongly about how shortsightedness and obsession with revenge can only cause more trauma, loss, and pain. That evil actions cannot beget goodness. I think people really expected an "Adventures of Ellie and Joel 2.0", but that sort of buddy comedy just doesn't fit in a world as bleak and dangerous as that of The Last of Us. The voice acting and motion capture is great. The graphics are gorgeous. The pacing is good (with only minor complaints of some tedious tasks in Ellie's three days in Seattle). The story is dark and directly follows as consequences of the first game. I expected to fully hate Abby, but I actually enjoyed her three days in Seattle more than Ellie's. The game does a great job of showing the complexities of life and how no one is all good or all bad. This is a terrible world in which people are just trying to survive. I loved Joel's character in TLOU pt. 1, but there is no question that he has done terrible things to survive and his choice to save Ellie doomed the rest of humanity. I expected that if there ever was a TLOU pt. 2, Joel or Ellie would have to die because it's just too unrealistic to expect any character to survive too long in a world as brutal as this one. By the end of my playthrough, I still missed Joel, but also really appreciated the strong message the game was sending. The final fight between Abby and Ellie is just terribly emotional and brutal to watch, but really sends home the point of the game: revenge wasn't going to fix what has been lost. The best you can do is to accept your lot and make the best of it. To move forward with strength, love, and determination rather than obsessing over pain, regret, and rage. Fantastic game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had originally not bought the game because I could not determine whether the negative reviews were justified or not. Now that I have ended it, I am deeply saddened by all the characters, because nobody goes home with a happy ending. And the fact that I can empathize with the characters at all has given the game a particularly intense narrative style.

One of the biggest criticisms seemed to be that the protagonist of the first part dies. What surprised me was that someone was surprised that this could happen. Because if you look at the end of the first part and what Joel had done, you shouldn't be surprised if anyone sets off to kill him. And that's exactly what happened in the end. Whether you can understand Joel's actions or not is debatable. But that's exactly what Naughty Dog wants. That you deal with the conflict. It should be noted that Ellie could not forgive him for his actions.

Another point of criticism was apparently Abby. And I could not understand that either. Abby has understandable motives to kill Joel and shows that she is not fundamentally malicious by ultimately sparing Ellie. Even two times. Even after Ellie waged her own vengeance against her.
In order to draw Abby's character, a clever decision was made to make her the protagonist. And that's where you get to know their youth, their first love, their conflicts and their good deeds.

Finally, many were bothered by the lack of revenge caused by Ellie. That too is at least as debatable as the end of the first part. Should she have done it? Would she really have been happier then? Would she suddenly have Joel back? Could she have told him that she did forgive him? What did Ellie get out of indulging in her desire for revenge? In the end, nothing more. She sacrificed her calm and peaceful life for it and won nothing for it. But she wouldn't have that by killing Abby.
Many wanted to see revenge and apparently did not understand that the action criticizes exactly that. Those who commit themselves to revenge lose more than they win.

Overall, the game had many moves that showed how detailed it was. Abby, for example, wasn't just strong because she wanted to be strong. She went to training every day and didn't skip a day for her revenge. Ellie lost her innocence and wit the deeper she plunged into revenge. Where she made bad jokes at the beginning was nothing more than emptiness.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Combat is much improved version over the first game, but plays in a similar way that really shines at higher difficulty levels.. Visuals are amazing, even on a launch PS4. Puzzles are less boring than they were in the first game. The main thing holding it back is the ambitious but messy narrative that is hit-or-miss. It's a shame people are review bombing this and not playing the game before reviewing.

To anyone salty about Joel. Joel was a bad person. He was obviously going to get what was coming to him after all the bad he had done. I don't understand why this is surprising to anyone. The execution wasn't perfect but it definitely made sense for the story.

Abby is a well-developed character. Her story arc is similar to Joel's in the first game. Bad, hardened person and redemption by taking care of a child. Her rescue of Lev at the end where she just killed everyone on both sides is also similar to Joel's actions to save Elly. By the end of the game I liked her a whole lot more than I liked Ellie. In fact, I think the way Ellie was handled is one of the weaker aspects of the game. While Abby's friends were interesting and made sense, the game failed to really give Dina and Jesse time to shine in Ellie's story. Tommy's turn at the end also doesn't quite feel earned. Dina abandoning the farm didn't make much sense for me either. Actually, the whole ending felt a bit rushed and could have been a whole game itself.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is a truly fantastic game being given 1/10s by two kinds of people: people who are who attached to what they *wanted* the game to be and people who haven't played the game at all. This is "Part II" and not a sequel in the truest sense - it's a continuation of all of the themes and plot points and ideas that came out of the end of the first game. Yes, Joel dying made perfect sense after what he did. It was always likely and it was absolutely given its due weight.

-Ellie sets off on the warpath, but as you proceed through her section of the game, you find out more about her increasingly complicated relationship and eventual falling out with Joel after she found out what happened in Salt Lake City, adding a complicated layer to her motives for going after Abby. What's she really after? What's going on in her head?

-You spend the first half of the game hating Abby... until you get to her part of the game, learn about her background, and spend three days with her that are written as a parallel to Joel's arc in the first game. 90% of the people who are complaining about her fall into the latter group mentioned at the top - people who haven't played the game at all.

-I'm tempted to give the game a 9/10 because I don't quite think it sticks the landing. The reasons for Ellie apparently forgiving and moving on from Joel (and not killing Abby) are kind of muddled - it's presented as though the flashbacks to her time with Joel make her change her mind, but it's not really clear why she remembers the particular moments she does at the moments she does. Why go all the way to Santa Barbara only *then* to decide to forgive Joel while her hands are around Abby's neck? It almost works, but I don't think it quite does.

Why foreshadows the first trailer(2016), that Joel is helping Ellie with her revenge. But in the end product they let him die and I couldnt believe that Joel is dieing right at the beginning and because of that, Icouldnt feel his death. This Game has allot of plotholes and bad written characters. I cant believe that this Game is Made By the same studio, which create part 1. But it sadly is. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It seems the vast majority of people who dislike this game were simply after fan service Joel and Ellie adventures. This game tells a story which creates such a vividly rich image of the world it’s set in.

It provides a unique take on storytelling that deviates from the main characters and shows the new perspectives of all characters involved, and after the initial frustrations of not wanting to play asr the bad guy because they’re ‘bad’ you begin to empathise with their motives are eventually see that they’re life runs as a parallel to that of Ellie’s. They’re just two individuals caught up in a cruel world where life is so painfully cheap.

There is no plot armour, characters are just people in all their complex glory.

This game is a must buy if you enjoyed the first one, the story is gorgeously pulled off once you understand it breaks the tradition of standard storytelling. And of course, the gameplay is scaled up tenfold from the first instalment, every moment feels satisfying and visceral. And holy **** does it look and feel amazing, the atmosphere and immersion in this game is like no other.

Don’t listen to the review-bombers who hate any notion of LGBT in their games (which by the way feels incredibly natural in this game and not forced at all). Play the game yourself and form your own opinion, I loved this game for doing something different whilst still staying so brutally ‘The Last of Us’.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If I could score this game in a single word, i'd use the word "Astonishing"
There is up to 8 hours that I finished the game's history and i'm still wordless about how incredible well made it is. This game is one of the few games that can make you feel such a strong empathy for the antagonist of the game, and even more: It makes you not know how to feel about what is going on the game. In all the Ellie vs. Abby fights the game had I can only remember wanting them to stop fighting.
Every consequence, every move one of them makes towards the other, every single small piece of history seems to take you to the thinking: "Is vengance really that important?". Especially in the part where Ellie abandons Dina and JJ to finish what she had started.
    So **** amazing!

This game tells de best history about vengance, forgiveness and consequence I have ever saw. It really brings out the message behind the phrase "Vengance is like Salt Water: The more you drink it, the more thirsty you'll get". And it goes further to make you see how deep the game goes: Even the secondary characters of it have theirs deepness and relevance to the game`s history.
And not only the history: This game outdones his first part in gameplay, deepness and especially in the exploration and world design factor too.
This game is simply amazing, and worth every dolar spent on it. Even though many people will desagree and dislike the subverting expectations part of the game and the twists the history takes, this game is a MUST PLAY, for good or for bad. You'll either hate it or have one of the BEST EXPERIENCES you can have on gaming. The only way to know how much you'll like this game is playing it, and I highly suggest you to do so

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a terrible story, I can see why people like it for the gameplay though. The Abbey sections are cringy and the part where you have to do a plot twist is just dumb.

The ending is just a disappointment, no payoff, no actual conclusion, very little is said by Ellie or anyone else.

Naughty Dog intentionally made Abby appear good natured because she pets dogs and plays fetch with them, while Ellie is force to appear evil by forcing you the player to kill a dog, even though they said you wouldn't have to in an dev interview.

The gameplay is just alright, its a lot of repetitive gameplay and not worth bothering actually fighting the NPCs, its easier to sneak up and back stab them, which gets boring the 300th time you've done it before.

    I give this game a "avoid-and-watch-on-youtube out of 100"

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am I huge fan of the first Last of Us and thought it told a simple but effective, emotionally powerful, well-acted story. I was hugely disappointed with this game's narrative. It could have been so excellent with so many amazing characters and themes, but instead we got a bland, horribly paced revenge story with unlikable characters and terrible, unsatisfying twists and turns. I feel there were moments of captivating intrigue and brilliance like the farmhouse sequence with Ellie after the first fight with Abby, the really engaging opening in Jackson (I thought Joel's death was an great way to kick of the story and made you relate to Ellie and the hatred she felt towards Abby) and the lore surrounding the Scars, FEDRA and the WLF. However almost everything else story wise was atrocious and unsatisfying. The ending honestly left me disheartened and depressed. I cannot believe how Ellie went from one of my favourite characters in gaming to a whiney, aggressive, humourless, bland brat. And don't even get my started on Abby! I cannot believe we were meant to sympathise with this utter jerk. I don't mind unlikeable, nasty characters at all. But to play as a character I don't even like for half the game just felt tiring and unnecessary. Her story just had so many pointless subplots.

One thing I completely adored was the gameplay. The actual gunplay and controls, are fine at best, but the cat and mouse style skirmishes are just so engrossing to play through. The options presented to the player are all interesting and viable and I loved seamlessly and tactically switching between slowly sneaking behind enemies and picking them off with my bow and knife, and once spotted unleashing my bullets and traps to reign hell upon my foes before running away and going hiding again. Ellie and Abby are so agile and fun to play as with a wide array of upgrades to choose from and weapons and gadgets to use and craft.

The level design is probably some of the best I've seen with the levels being open and vertical with plenty of places to explore and many different routes to take. In fact, I'm going through my second playthrough of the game right now just because of how fun I found the gameplay and exploration.

The music is okay. I love Gustavo Santaolalla and his music but in this game the soundtrack felt really generic and bland compared to most of his work.

Technically this game is a masterpiece. Visually it is stunning. The low hanging fog, the pouring rain, the ruined, crumbling dilapidated buildings are so amazing to look at and explore. At times the game looked photo realistic. I loved the atmosphere. The sound design is really meaty and satisfying as well. I never game across any glitches. Seems like a really polished game.

The real highlight of the game I think is the performances. Particularly Ashley Johnson as Ellie who really brings a pretty lifeless character in this game, to life.

I thought there was a lack of interesting cut-scenes. I often would rewatch my favourite scenes from the first game over and over again just because I though they were so powerful and awesome but in Part 2 not one scene jumped out at me as particularly memorable, or at least not in a good way. This leaves really long stretches of gameplay which I don't really mind because the gameplay really worked for me but it could be really repetitive for some people.

Overall, I though from a technical and gameplay standpoint this game is a complete masterpiece. But there are so many poor story decisions that were made that left me unsatisfying and feeling like this game was wasted potential that disappointed and disrespected everyone who waited 7 years for this narrative catastrophe. At the end of the day I did enjoy playing The Last of Us Part 2. Its highs are high and its lows are low.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a biased review, to pretend otherwise would be dishonest. It’s really nice seeing myself in a game for once. But holy ****, the last few hours I was just begging through the screen for Ellie to give up her quest for revenge and go home with Dina. When the scene at the farm with Ellie and Dina and JJ happened I started crying, I thought that was gonna be it. Fade to black sitting on a tractor with her kid, the cycle of violence broken, and a happy ending. I feel absolutely gutted that she came back to find Dina had left. I’m hoping we’ll eventually find out that they get back together and raise their kid together. I want a happy ending, I want people to like me to have happy endings.

Not to mention, Joel reminds me a lot of my dad. The way he awkwardly tried to connect with Ellie and especially the way he asked Ellie if Dina was her girlfriend. I played the prologue on Friday and gave my dad an early Father’s Day call...

I really really liked this game I think it’s better than part 1. But I do feel as though my feelings were held hostage, queer women never get happy endings it seems. I feel like this game affects us differently as some of us probably desperately want to see some happy endings (which are in short supply for queer women.) Everyone’s able to sympathize, but I’ve never felt this kind of empathy for a video game character before. On another similar note, having their only trans character receive pain because of who he is intrinsically and not his choices, like every other character in this game kind of took me out of the experience. It didn't feel authentic or grounded in the narrative they built which revolves around the consequences of your actions. I'm not saying it was the worst choice they could have made but he didn't need to get dead named so often or have all of his trauma result from his being trans, there were dozens of smarter ways to write him into the story as elegantly as they wrote in Ellie being gay.

probably an 8/10 realistically due to (pretty sizable) pacing issues and their treatment of the one trans character but I'm rating this based on how it's affected my life and me emotionally because I believe that is a worthwhile perspective. 10/10 game for ME, wow.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Attention spoilers about the history and gameplay on this review, this is a great game that deserves to be played before judged, if you do not understand why I gave it a 10 after having played it almost 28 hours and you think it is okay to give it a 0, or anything below 8 without even having played it, then you are the one with the problem and you should not judge before knowing.

I think the game was superior to the first one in all aspects, starting with the playable aspects such as combat on wich the animations are much more fluid and realistic, stealth as always plays an important role, but now the enemies seem to have more communication between them , the scars whistle in code, the wolfs shout the names of their companions and they have dogs that sniff you and there is more variety of infected. The only thing I can criticize the gameplay is that the AI is sometimes not up to it (rare), inventory management is much better too, the transition between changing one weapon ti another or hitting an enemy is seamless and the we can always see the weapons equipped in the back or backpack of our character, crafting and collecting resources is entertaining as always, but here we have weapons mods that look and feel great.

The ambientation, environments and its locations are another very strong point of this game compared to the previous one, the spore areas are dark, foggy, with very realistic ambient light and full of enemies, the ambient sounds and the noises the infected make you nervous. The apocalyptic version of the city of Seattle is extremely detailed, it has scenes full of overgrown vegetation, ruins, even a river with rapids and as it constantly rains everything is deteriorated, the jets of water that fall from the buildings and the puddles they create are very realistic, also the game surprised me with so many well detailed interiors as shops, gyms, restaurants, apartments etc.

The history is the controversial part of the game, I have never been a fan of temporary jumps in movies or video games, and although I do not love them here, I must say that if they are very effective in showing the story first from Ellie's perspective - Spoiler Ahead - when Abey kills Joel, I was really shocked and she and her friends seemed the worst thugs to me, I couldn't wait for Ellie to take her revenge. I must emphasize that I did not read the spoilers of the game, I entered playing it blindly so I thought Dina was the one who died and that Ellie wanted her to avenge her, but when I saw that it was Joel the one who dies, Ellie's actions seemed justified to me, that until we reached the part of the game where you control Abby, there you get to know her better, this part where you control her was quite long too, almost as much as Ellie's and during all her journeys you get to know the character better and her friends much much better, turns out I liked some of her friends even more than Ellie´s friends like Owen, Manny and Nora are my favorites, when I saw that Joel killed his Father, I was still on Ellie's side in taking her revenge, but when Abby started helping the Scar brothers and tried to seek some kind of redemption to calm her conscience for what she did to Joel, I knew she was the same as Ellie and at that moment I didn't want she or Ellie to died, when the end was near I thought that maybe I would not like it but I did liked it,I am not going to discuss the end but I can say to other reviewers that said that Ellie was not faithful to her character because of her last action, you are wrong, she indeed killed alot os people to get to her revenge but at the end I think she finally realized that killing her wil not make her happy and that at the end Abby was a person like her that suffer alot because of this revenge the two had, she was ready to let go and she did.

So, this game is the best until now of 2020, the only negatives I found was that Dina I never really liked me, I don't know why, also I am sad that Joel died, he was a terrific character but I think it was something that gave the story a lot of strength and that resulted in the rebirth of both main characters. We have an Ellie who can forgive when it is right and a new possible protagonist for some future game. The graphics although they are great I think they made my PS4 cry the and sometimes the textures did not always load or looked the best so I can not wait for the PS5, but all this seems superfluous and did not affect my enjoyment with the game at all.

Sadly all I can say is that I liked the gameplay as for the story *sigh* I can only say it wasn’t for me. The pacing for me was all over the place. And making me play as Abby for so long it just made me hate her even more and even her father. Honestly Mel said it best when she told Abby “you’re a piece of **** Abby.” And the ending could have been meaningful if it wasn’t so damn floppy floppy. Having Ellie go from giving up chasing Abby and living happy with Dina and JJ. To Tommy guilt tripping her into chasing her down again. To her rescuing her and Lev. The then right before saying they have to do this to then right about to kill her saying nah **** it. It flipped sooo much it was just wrong. The story did have some good moments but they were all overshadowed by making us play as a character at least I could not get behind, like Owen did lol. I tried to like her too I just couldn’t. Sadly gameplay is good but not good enough to get a better score and overshadow how bad the story was. I hope I have enlightened people as to why I couldn’t give it a better score. Have a great week everyone :) Expand

It is essentially two games in one with both sides collided a few times. I give it a 7 because its not without flaws. I came across several bugs, albeit minor ones (with one that I needed to reload to fix). The game runs a little long and could stand to be trimmed down a bit and it starts getting formulaic by having nearly every goal be some kind of landmark you're headed to. And finally the story does not conclude in a satisfying way. It doesn't make much sense and there's no time spent justifying it. All in all it's a fun, thrilling experience with a lot of nuance and solid themes. Expand

A mim, decepcionou parcialmente. Expand

This game is very special in a lot of different ways, I really enjoyed playing through this game and the 20-30 hours playthrough stuck with me long after I had seen the credits.

Most of the criticism other people have stem from the fact the story is not what they wanted/expected from the game. The game takes alot of risks which might not resonate with everyone. The game follows Ellie, after the events of The Last of Us (Part I) Joel and Ellie have settled in Jackson, a settlement run by Joel's brother Tommy and his wife Maria. After a traumatic event, Ellie sets out for revenge on those who wronged her and the ones she loves. This sounds like a classic revenge story but it is much deeper and more nuanced that it might seem at first glance. Like I mentioned before, Naughty Dog took some risks and made some bold choices with some of the characters and events that take place. The game requires you to think about it and play with your brain on. There are multiple layers to the story that get peeled off as you progress through the story. In the end those layers will reveal a bittersweet core that will make you question the character's choices and actions in a haunting and beautiful way. It might not be the story I expected or wanted but in the end I realise it was the story that was needed for the characters we loved. It's an incredibly nuanced story that really forces you to reflect on the characters we love so dearly because of the events of the last game.

Gameplay has been refined by quite a bit compared to the first game. Combat is incredibly grounded and realistic. Enemies are smarter and will make an effort to take you down in various ways. Besides that different factions in the world have different strategies when it comes to combat which makes combat varied, fun and tense. Crafting is still here, there are now more and different recipes which gives you tools to tackle encounters in different ways. Movement has seen improvements, compared to Joel, Ellie controls very different. Ellie is much more agile which again, makes the encounters feel different. The addition of a jump button, although it was marketed as a major feature, was not used a lot. Jumping and going prone was mainly used for environmental puzzles and exploration with the latter also being very useful in combat. Collectibles come in the form of trading cards, artifacts and coins, these are a fun little distraction that can keep you busy while exploring the massive environments Naughty Dog has given us to explore.

Graphically the game is stunning, even on base PS4 visuals and performance of both the game and the hardware are phenomenal. Character models and environments are varied and look incredible. Long grass moves in subtle ways when the wind blows, ice breaks when walking through it, rain drops reflect on metallic objects. Everything looks and feels just right. Combine that with the amazing sound design and you've got yourself an amazing, immersive experience that is rarely topped by other AAA games.

This is definitely one of the most controversial games to have ever come out in the last 20 years. The game is very divisive for alot of people and the reviews reflect that as well. I'll end this review with on of the best quotes I have heard to describe this game.

"If you finish the game wishing you had [spoiler] , you may have won the game you played with your controller but you lost the game Naughty Dog was playing with you"

At first I really liked it, I had my doubts about Joel's death, but in what happened I saw the two sides of the coin and it's those things that leave you thinking that you should never judge without having a base. excellent gameplay and mechanics, the characters that I would like to like were gradually discovering in the end I really liked Abby a very cute personality in my opinion, I liked to see a little more in depth in the character of abby and ellie, and how in the end ellie chose to do the right thing and have peace. I recommend that you finish it before hating it, I hope there is a third part of this fantastic story where you can see abby and ellie again but manage to see more in the field of the infected and see how they evolve over time. I think there are some characters that you can't kill in a story, when you kill them the whole core of the series dies.
imagine like walking dead kill, Rick Grimes!
they removed Rick Grimes from the show but they didn't kill him.
other than the core of the stories, you can kill anyone. like Sarah from last of us 1 which it was great writing or again, for example, walking dead which they killed a lot of important characters from the story
you can make an example like this in every tv show and stories.

now for me, this game doesn't represent last of us anymore, because the core is dead.

The gameplay of part 2 is similar, or slightly better than part 1. The graphics part is close to other recent Naughty Dog titles e.g. Uncharted 4, so the gameplay & graphics score about 9/10.
Story: 0/10 No need to explain. The game challenges the bottom line of storytelling by failing every part of the story.
Overall score: 0/10 because the game is all about its story.

It was universally praised. The second game explored the themes of loss and hatred. Vitriol and division followed. By portraying a narrative that showcases the abominable lengths we could pursue in the name of revenge, the complexity of grief, the game achieved what it perhaps had always intended to do: challenge the players' mindsets by going against the grain and making them as uncomfortable as possible. I won't lie, I hated the direction the game took at first. It broke my heart. I thought it unnecessarily cruel. But the more I experienced the story for myself, I realized that maybe that was exactly the point. The game was never what I wanted or expected it to be. It exists not to pander to the players, but to make a statement on the human condition. It made me feel hate and love in equal measure. It made me enraged and then hollow by the end of it, broken as the characters and world around me. I love the game for what it is, not what it could've been. This story could've been what everyone wanted it to be. What everyone expected it to be. Instead, it slapped us in the face and gave us the exact opposite. A bleak, harsh reality that is justified by the established cruelty of its world. There is absolutely no way Naughty Dog couldn't have known this game was going to elicit intense vitriol from certain circles. They could've gone the "safe" route, given fans what they wanted, and proceed to garner praise, but instead they took a massive gamble and told a story they wanted to tell. It's phenomenal, how this game BOTH displayed and incited the depravity of humankind in such a profound manner. This was a social commentary in the making. Bravo, Naughty Dog. Bravo. What a phenomenal experience. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The main reason why this game is appealing is most likely due to its beautiful graphics and the nostalgia players feel when playing as Ellie. Joel, the beloved protagonist from the first game, dies in the first two hours in a pathetic way. Not only does Joel die, but the purpose of the story is to paint Joel as the antagonist who killed an innocent doctor just trying to do his job. Completely disregarding the fact that in order to develop a cure, the doctors had to kill Ellie, someone Joel viewed as his own child. Naughty Dog tried to get us to empathize with Abby, the daughter of the murdered doctor who died trying to kill young Ellie to develop a vaccine, by making gamers play as her for the last 14 hours of the game. This is an attempt to make gamers view Ellie as the antagonist, because she killed many of Abby's friends in an attempt to avenge Joel. Ellie was simply trying to attack those who were involved in Joel's murder, in order to reach abby, his killer. The goal of the latter half of the game was to humanize Abby, the one dimensional shallow character who was created in order to illustrate that revenge is bad no matter what the circumstances. The only way this game will even be remotely redeemable is if they add a multi-player mode. It seems that the main goal of the last of us 2 was to create a story that was politically correct enough to appeal to video game journalists, not the diehard fans of the first game. Truly disappointing. Expand

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
