This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is AMAZING! Soundtrack, Dub, scenario, graphics, game play (...) everything is fantastic, especially the story! It's a MASTERPIECE! There are 2 possible reasons for those who are saying the story is terrible. 1- Prejudice/discrimination, the game talk about (and show) LGBT issues, but they don't try to push it on your face, they do it naturally. So, if you are okay with that you definitely should play this game asap! 2- Didn't get the main point, after Joel's death, everybody gets angry, we want to kill Abby so bad, but when the game makes you play with her seeing all she had been through, everything makes sense, you can't hate her. There's no heroes or villains in this game. The game is about revenge and what it could possibly do to us. Expand

Disgusting game. They shouldn't make game like this. I was a great fan of The Last of Us 1 because of its story. But the story of 2 is so unacceptable and annoying.

Look, I get why people don´t like this game, but we need to understand that the game is not called "Joel and Ellie´s adventures". The game is called THE LAST OF US. The last of us Part II makes you understand that not everything turns out like you´d like to. WHICH IS GREAT. Being unpredictable is really hard these days, but a lot of people missed that oppourtunity because of the leaks. Hours after the game was released people already was rating it WITHOUT EVEN PLAYING THE GAME. Those ratings were from people that didn´t want the game to succeed. This game creates a new path in order that Part III can take place somewhere else (new countries) and with different main characters. Expand

    Good things:

It took the gameplay of the first game and enhance it 100%. The two main characters have different gameplay, upgrades and stuff, which contributes to deliver a better game.

The best of the industry in what animations respect. The faces animation are amazing, looks really close to real world.

Graphically is awesome, uses all the potential of the PS4 and the environments are beautiful.

The AI is really good, it has little to none problems. The human NPC's haves strategies to attack you. The variety of enemies is appreciable and is much more superior than the first game.

Dina's character is memorable, fits perfect with Ellie. One of ND's successes.

    Bad things:

All the new characters except Dina feels kind of empty. The character development is the antithesis of the first game, they're all easy to forget and you will not care about them.

The timeline is a mess. It is not a lineal story, you are constantly having flashbacks inside other flashbacks which takes away all the emotion.

The worst thing is that the game is constantly trying to confront the player, to confuse him and to make him feel guilty about the actions done or the actions you are going to do.

It has a lot of ultra violent scenes that are worthy of a madman.

The cordycepts infection is anecdotic. It has none effect in the story which is a wasted potential. Remembers me to Negan saga in TWD.

All Abby's story is a big mistake. The game shouldn't force you to play and care about her. However, after some hours I was able to understand her point, but Abby has nothing to do with what you loved from the first game and in the way she is presented to the player there is no chance to love the character. Only with two or three cinematics is enough to understand her point and if ND wanted to dive into her story, that should be a DLC not part of the main story.

    Conclusions:

The game is amazing in all aspects except the narrative, which is the most important thing in a game like this. It was seven large years waiting for this release, watching all new trailers and with very high expectations. I'm not disappointed at all but definitely the story was far away from what the fans expected. We don't ask for happy endings we just want you to be respectful with the essence of the first game and with the fans that payed and waited so long for this. They kept Abby hidden before game release because they knew no one would like her. Their forced inclusion sounds like some director's whim. This is not a game for everyone, anyway it is a must play if you own a PS4 and you liked Part I.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I beat this game in 20 hours. I streamed the whole thing. I feel as if I can give a justified review.
We waited for so long. I waited for a game that kept me up at night, dying from excitement to play it. The first game actually prompted me to go out and buy a PS4. This game was supposed to be above and beyond all expectations.
    Oh how we were wrong.
    STOP: Don't get me wrong
It was still graphically and mechanically an amazing game! Loved every bit of that.
    BUT
I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say that the story was absolutely awful. Who in their right mind would've assumed that the fans liked the way this one played out? We saw no resolution to any conflict. Let's start at the first mistake.
Naughty Dog did Joel SO dirty. Who is the bright mind that thought the route they took, was a good one? A character with several layers and stories, SNIPPED so early on? Not to mention the intuition and intellect Joel possessed was just mindlessly disregarded when he was shot and beaten like a dog. How on Earth are we supposed to just accept that? A man, a survivor, just shot and beaten like that? No. Big plot hole there. No way that was Joel. Absolutely disgraceful.
Then Abby's story? NO ONE ASKED FOR THAT! If someone did, please point me in their direction as I'm at a loss.
So you're telling me, out of all of the incredible minds at Naughty Dog, THIS was the best story line you could come up with? This?? This misdirection and deceit you've pressed upon your fans is borderline criminal. I'm sure there are hundreds upon hundreds of fan fictions capable of surpassing this sorry excuse for a story, tenfold.
The ending to this game is just depressing. It's depressing to the point that it has ZERO replay value. I played the first one 3 times over as it was just THAT good and had such a hopeful message. It was an incredible story. How did you lose you way? Who came up with such a sad and tragic ending? Who would want to feel that way again? Ellie coming home and being 100% alone. She has no one. Unless there was something I missed, she's alone.
I know I'm not the only one furious that after SO long, we were given a sorry excuse for a story. No one asked for Abby. Everyone screeched their lungs out at the sound of Joel's voice during the first reveal. Was that not enough of a sign? NO ONE ASKED FOR ABBY OR HER STORY! NO ONE!
(not to say I didn't like it, but how dare you think that takes priority over the characters we all know and love)

TLDR: Don't play it if you don't want your heart shattered into a million pieces and be left feeling SO disappointed.

others have reported game-breaking bugs but I have not come across them.

Music/Audio: As close to perfect as possible, will fully immerse you in a post-apocalyptic Seattle and depress you in the sad and down-trodden atmosphere the game places you in.

Game-play: If you liked the first game then you will enjoy this, not much has changed in terms of combat and scavenging. Combat is a bit spammy, animations are the main improvement with environmental animations tied into basic combat. Less puzzles and even fewer thoughtful puzzles are a shame.

Story: This is the massive negative for this game. With a game so story focused, this is why I've brought the score so low even with my glowing appraisal of the other aspects of the game. The story is filled with plot-holes, manipulation of the player and cheap ploys to get you to "feel" for a new protagonist.
There are so many easy tricks the writers use to try to play with your emotions and then act is if it was some profound twist. When in reality the story is just a massive misery/gore simulator that tries to look down its nose at you with a shallow "revenge isn't the answer" plot for some characters while
neatly ignoring that moral for other characters. The best way to describe this insult of a story is the writers trying to gaslight you into thinking this is some big statement on morals and virtue when its just them taking you on a Stockholm Syndrome roller-coaster.

Verdict: If you want to play this game as a tech-demo and simply enjoy the gameplay/visuals then by all means have at it. But if you have any hope for a decent story that builds on the first game then you will be very very sad and disappointed. Vote with your wallet if you don't like this sort of thing and
    wait for a heavy sale.

The gameplay, although maybe not the big step up in game design we expected is still near as dammit flawless. It's tense and heart racing! The only issue is the story! I don't think anyone here wanted to play as Abby. It's that simple. It ruins the tension of the story and if that content was cut for maybe a DLC the game could have focussed more on the ending which was lacklustre. The people crying over their being lesbians are stupid as Ellie had been a lesbian since the first game ffs, and the controversy with deadnaminf of the trans character is blown way out of proportion! Pros - Graphics, improved combat system, voice over acting, sounds, & difficulty+ replay (keep all gear & perks) overall gameplay is good especially through Ellie's 4 days in Seattle & Abby's hotel decent and lower hospital boss fight was awesome!

Cons - Length of game (should have cut out Abby's gameplay sections with just cut scene storylines instead.)
Story (Joel is removed from the game to soon. Ellie loses WAY to much for a young main character. Its hard to like Abby after the first stage of the game.) They have greatly improved the fight, it is less boring than before, they put the silencer on the gun, the world is much wider, year improved the A.I. The fact that Ellie is more detached, stems from the fact that she is a teenager and has seen her only parental reference die. Flashbacks are justified by the fact that the game would have been boring if it had started from before, there would have been no form of action. in the early stages of the game, it's all snowed, the dictation that warm blood melts the snow, had never been seen, even the water is incredible, like this game. It couldn't be more inspired from The road by Cormac McCarthy and the movie that adapts it, or thousand of other apocalyptic stories. What makes great these two games is how they adapt a theme to create their own story. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a little late at this point but I want to air my view since I cannot contain my frustration and disappointment at this point.
I just got done with this game and I am left with a complete and utter feeling of disgust and a hole being shot in my gut.

Before I descend into my rant, I just want to commend what went right: The Graphics, The Game Mechanics and the Voice Acting.

    Now...

The story telling and writing is in shambles. Most of the supporting characters are shallow and cringe which makes these inter-personal relationships seem superficial in that they only serve to make the cogs of the story work just for convenience sake.

This game tries so hard to be a set apart from the first, that it completely breaks itself.

If TLOU2 was a completely stand alone game with no ties to the prequel it still falls flat in that it betrays the player by making Abby the antagonist become utterly and completely hated within the first 2 hours of game play.

So everyone is now on board with Ellie's revenge drive, great!
    Lines are drawn:
    Ellie = Good and
    Abby = Bad

You play your way through and are fed this revenge plot and battle your way through various traumatic events and come to a climax.
But instead of exacting your well deserves revenge you are then FORCED to play Ellie's antagonist and empathise with your enemy, which completely railroads you into developing a hate/but I have to play through this relationship with Abby.

You are betrayed for placing all your empathy and feelings with Ellie when you play as Abby.

At this point no sane and sound of mind person would feel comfortable with this change up.

    Moving on...

You start to develop feelings through your game play with Abby for her situation and start to understand why she did what she did.

***Great I get you Abby! Let me play as Ellie now***

Unfortunately, the worst part of the betrayal is that you are FORCED again to fight Ellie, which is uncomfortable and you don't really want to do it. Which sane person would feel comfortable and want to actually have a hand in destruction of the protagonist and be okay with it?

    Going forward...

The ending... I don't get the thought process in the decisions made, they are uncharacteristic and are completely unsupported.

Why did Ellie let Abby go when she flashed back to Joel?
    - Did she think Joel wouldn't want her to do it?
    - She literally gave up her family to keep the promise to Tommy and to ease her own mind (part of the explanation she gave Dina), so why stop?
    - She had nothing left to lose except to get her long awaited revenge.
    - It certainly couldn't be that she didn't want to take a life because she has a laundry list of people she's already take out in her path for revenge.

It makes no sense in Ellie's perspective, the decision is uncharacteristic.

But if you think about it this way:
** The creator now has 2 loved characters
** You as the player, as much as you don't want to admit it, have mixed feelings for both characters in the end and you might second guess yourself when you try to choose between them.
** It isn't like Ellie knows what Abby has been through..... BUT you as the player do know! Which, however you phrase it, places you in a position where you start second guessing who you're going to root for.
** So the decision was made for you by the creator, a shallow flashback was the reason to stop Ellie ending Abby.
** So it's not your decision ** They creator spared both his characters ** You are then left with no resolution and feeling frustrated ** You were railroaded and none of the things you did in the game actually mattered ** Lead through an emotionally charged story with no resolution But the game sure is pretty though.

Fallout/TESV/GTA/BOTW)

BOTW/Hitman)

First off I want to express that this game is not terrible, it’s bad but not terrible. The graphics are great and the visuals are amazing which is why I gave it a four, but that’s not all that goes into a game of this caliber. By all means I am not a professional critic and have no experience but excuse my language but a depressed clown with a stick in its ass is more entertaining than most of this game. I say most because the prologue was in my opinion beautiful when Joel sings and give Ellie the guitar, I geared up a bit. Then they did a stupid time jump to speed the process of Joel’s idiotic death. This game is so repetitive with the way it’s played and goes way off the rails of the first game which is loved by most people who played it. If the game stuck to the character developing moments like the Future Days cover by Joel to Ellie then I would rate this a 10/10 and writing this I am hopeful that the retcon this game or makes Joel Edition where he doesn’t die and does work on the relationship of Ellie and Joel. They are making a TV show as well for this game which I am really excited but I just don’t want them to mess this up like TLOU2 and cast the right actors for these roles( I personally would choose Hugh Jackman and Kaitlyn Denver’s) Thank you for reading this if you did:)

Excellent graphics, maybe the game with the best ones yet...but not more than that. The gameplay can be pretty interesting but because of the storyline and some character choices you lose motivation to play fairly quickly. a bit disappointed

The story of this game simply deconstructed the father figure and the relationship between father and daughter that we saw in the previous game. All of this in the name of an ideological narrative.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II... a long awaited sequel for the fans!
This game is by far one of my favourites under graphics! Level of detail is amazing, animation to movements, details on terrain, clothes, weapons, you name it! It looks gorgeous! Everywhere you look is a piece of art so bonus points for that! Level design is also awesome!
For the story? Not so great. The writing is bad.
The fans have been wondering and theorizing on what's going to happen for our main characters for Joel and Ellie and other lovable characters during the first one. After long years of waiting... we get a revenge story that is not fulfilled.
The only best moments in the game by far is the flashbacks with young Ellie and Joel. Awesome moments and makes your heart warm.
To be honest, I really wish Joel should've got more play time... he died fairly quick during the beginning of the game.
The ending... oh that ending... what was the point of the whole game when it ends just like that... you don't get to kill Abby, you let her live, and go back home with two missing fingers with an abandoned farmhouse, played the guitar, had a flashback to Joel, leave and roll the credits. What was the point of all that? Abby KILLED Joel ffs! A lovable and badass character killed just like that. Ellie's drive on killing Abby is off the roof then her drive just switched off out of no where in the end... It almost as if this sequel was pointless.

Would I recommend this game as a Last of Us fan? Nope.

Would you buy this full price? Nah... buy it when it goes on a big sale or wait until PS+ makes it a free game in the future.

Is this game gonna be Game of the Year? Absolutely not!

For hardcore Naughty Dog fans, I am truly sorry about this game. I can feel the huge disrespect in your face. A long awaited game is here and ends in a really horrible way.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last Of Us Part II is one of the best sequels ever made. In terms of game-play, it's an improvement in every aspect, everything you do feels natural and fluent as you would want, this lets you engage an encounter as you like, with full-on stealth or going crazy, and it feels rewarding both ways. In terms of story, it's a real, down to earth emotional story, capable of making you regret the actions that you did as the protagonist, making you like the characters that you initially looked as the absolute villains. The end of the story has a sour taste, and the player doesn't want it to end that way, but that is what makes the game so rough and real. This game is a devastating, yet beautiful story about grieving, revenge and it's consequences. The game excels at humanizing every character, so you see how a cycle of violence breaks everything and everyone around you.
I fully recommend The Last Of Us part II only if you have played the first one. This one is Naughty Dog's Masterpiece.

The same characters from the first game, which were previously so well realized and developed, are written and thrown away so poorly here that it is an absolute slap in the face to the most hardcore fans. The graphics and gameplay, while certainly competent and at times truly breathtaking are mostly undermined by just how incompetent the story is presented and told. The game truly became an endurance test of annoyance to play through, as I was forced to continue through scenarios which I quickly lost interest in, and didn't care about said characters the game was trying so desperately hard to get me to sympathize with.

I was originally debating on giving this game a balanced score of a 5 but the ridiculous self indulgent, supposedly profound ending the writers have decided to incorporate here, falls flat on it's face and sealed my final score to a 4.

On a slight side note - Marketing for this game has completely mislead and flat out lied to people and it is absolutely baffling to me that major video game reporting outlets (that have given this game a masterpiece rating) have refused to even point that out, when they have done so with other games they themselves have reviewed. Trailers were deliberately altered to give the illusion that characters play a larger role than they actually do. A major character was purposefully hidden for...whatever reason. Writers came forward and stated that you wouldn't be forced to kill dogs, (this could be only a minor spoiler) this was completely untrue! And finally, certain characters were made to look older when in reality, in the final product they were actually younger as it was taken from the perspective of flashbacks. Ridiculous! Manipulative and shady marketing at it's absolute peak!

Do not buy this game if you were a huge fan of the first. These developers do not deserve your money if this is the level of storytelling they had to show after 7 years of waiting! A sequel never should have happened! I wish I had never played it! I'm heartbroken. I keep expecting to wake up and this game to be a bad dream, but it isn't and now I don't want to speak of it ever again!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A big disappointment.

    Let's start with the good:

    -Gameplay 8/10

Many of the same mechanics were employed from the previous game, that goes for the good and the bad. Gunfights are still scary, humans feel inherently different to combat than the infected. Though they took away some of the oppressive force that clickers brought to the first game. They're more easily dealt with here.
They did clean up melee combat with how hit boxes and animations worked so that was nice.

    -Graphics 10/10

They did a tremendous job here. With the obvious limitations on the current gen consoles (I play a bunch on PC) there were very few times the frames would fall and take away from the experience; or the AA would have to over compensate for the amount of 'stuff' on screen' and give it a 'fuzzy feel'

    -Cinematic Elements 8.5/10

Again they take the old from the last game and just polish it a little bit, the photo mode was a nice add but they didnt take time to really make something special like the first.

    The Bad and the Ugly:

    Story 1/10

It's sad to say this. The game WANTED you to love it so bad. But the plot holes and the writing pitting the loved and well rounded characters of the first game against the antagonist; was not enjoyable in the slightest.
Having Joel die brutally you knew this was about revenge. The town of jackson and Dina and the friends of Ellie have so little development that you're not really sure what's going on in the love triangle there.
Becoming Abby and beating the **** out of the first story characters was just flat out terrible. Mixed emotions and failed attempts at comedic relief led to a flat character that just made for a lacking cohesive story. The plot armor of Abby was that of an Abrams Tank. She could do no wrong and it was obvious that the writing was centered around putting her in good light, but somehow against already loved characters. The killing off of secondary characters left the end of the game feeling empty and when you finally have a chance at revenge. True Revenge. What you set out to do at the beginning of the game. Never happens. You don't even get the choice.

you destroy your relationship with Tommy, and Dina, set out on a warpath to Santa Barbara killing everyone and when you finally win. Having flashbacks of Joel, bludgeoned to death. you say "nah its ok" you let her go.

Ellie can't play guitar anymore either since she bit off 2 of your fingers.

    Boom game's over.

This game had the absolute potential of being the game of the year and the game of a decade. But appeasing SJWs and putting in all these "twists" with terrible writing destroyed any semblance of the first game. But they threw it all away because they needed to "include the wide audience that was going to play the game." BS.

We play games for the same reason people watch sports or go to the beach. To get away from all that stuff. No one wants politics in sports. No one wants politics in games.

The SJWs that broke the story never were going to play the game in the first place.

Expand

As much as the story isn't the greatest in my opinion, the graphics, scenery and combat is amazing. I'll be giving this game a rating of 7/10 because of the three things I think that are great about the game and not the story. I seriously can't rap my head round the fact that Joel died a brutal death and how quickly he died. He deserved a way better death and later in the game. Let's also not forget about the ending. Ellie tracks down Abby to go KILL HER and decides to let her live? Like wtf. The whole point of the game was Ellie seeking revenge for the death of Joel and she chooses to let her live? The story really doesn't make sense. She should've just stayed with Dina if she was going to let her live then. People have their opinions about the game and this is mine. Expand

Swear to me there are no spoilers... I swear.

Following up to one of the most acclaimed PlayStation games was never going to be an easy feat. Many of us agreed that the first game did not warrant a sequel and Naughty Dog told us that there would only be a sequel if there was a story to be told. With a reputation such as theirs, I trusted they would do the right thing. 7 years later, the story is here and it has been one of the most divisive and polarizing games released this generation.

The first Last of us was my favorite narrative based game largely because of the well crafted characters and interactions between them juxtaposed against the backdrop of a dismal world. However, if you go into the second installment with the same expectations or use it as any form of guideline, you are in for one hell of a shock! Part II was made to differentiate itself from its predecessor and subvert your expectations. It takes the franchise into a very different direction to what you may have anticipated... and would have wanted.

    So... what's GOOD?
This game is not a masterpiece, but it isn't terrible. Unfortunately, this games strengths lie in the technical department rather than the story itself. The gameplay, animations, systems , AI and attention to detail is hardly rivalled by other games and adds character and previously unexplored tones to each location. The dev's who worked their asses off deserve a lot of credit for what they managed to pull off here. The improved combat system is extremely satisfying, especially when you land heavy blows or feel the impact of enemy strikes that knock you to the ground. The ability to craft a range of useful and well balanced weapons gives you options on how to best take on enemies. The new groups you encounter are unnerving but also not surprising in a crazy apocalyptic world such as this one. The new ability to go prone saved my ass too many times and now you're able to disappear in the overgrown environment like Rambo. The sound design is also fantastic and Gustavo Santaolalla's soundtrack fits very well with the themes in the game with "Unbroken" being my personal favorite track. Apart from the technical side, there are some good story moments too where I actually found myself feel something or actually take a liking to a new character. However, these moments are brief and occur very early into the game or during flashbacks.

    THE BAD
The game is overwhelmingly but understandingly bleak and rarely mimics the charm of the first game, apart from one or two missions (you'll know if you've played it!). Although this game is twice as long as the first game, I felt little connection with the new characters and every single one of them felt underdeveloped. Not only do you not care about these characters, but you are also forced to spend a lot of time with the people you do not like, resulting in a lack of investment. The jumbled storytelling, character design, character decisions and sometimes dialogue throughout the game seems awkward and will often make you lose your s**t... which is a massive problem for a narrative based game. This inconsistency and lack of investment has a destructive effect on your ability to enjoy large gameplay sections and will undoubtedly become tedious, disjointed and grueling. On many occasions I laughed or rolled my eyes at the events that were unfolding on the screen because they were so unbelievable, flawed, tropey, convenient or simply just pointless.

    THE UGLY
The game does not hold back on its violence and actually gives you little option to avoid it. If you don't like to see people dismembered into red mist using crudely crafted weapons or you are a massive dog lover this game might not be for you. The game will also plunge you into dark and spooky areas with your flashlight as the only source. There is one hair raising mission that would not feel misplaced in a resident evil game (if you know, you know).

    THE VERDICT
When all is considered, this game is undoubtedly a technical marvel but falls flat in large segments of the story due to its fixation on teaching you basic morals. In turn, the game sacrifices character development, pacing and everything you enjoyed about the first game. If the focus switched to what this franchise means to the majority of us, then it would have been better received by its audience.

"This is how life goes, you are not defined by your death nor the way you go, you are defined by the memories you shared with the ones you loved" - Daniel Barragán

This is not just another video game, this is a story that had to be told.

The whole game was a kick to the face, it hurt and quite a lot, and not because the video game, or the narrative were bad (because they are not), on the contrary, Neil is one of the best writers of his generation, and I understand his discontent for the bad reaction of many of his followers.

In the last of us both parts work as one and it does it in a sublime way, there are very few video games or I would even dare to say movies that achieve what Neil and his team did, the attachment that existed on the part of the main actors ( Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson) to their characters made this story even more personal since there were several important changes that happened thanks to the contributions of the actors.

I love the fact that Ashley Johnson has an indescribable love for her character and for the game:
"This game is a huge part of me"
Johnson A. "Last of us 2 spoilercast" (https://youtu.be/g6rRfK-V2jY)

How you handle loss during the course of the game is probably the main factor in your discontent, as it clouds everything around you to some degree, but as many fans should already know, "the last of us" is a game. with a REALISTIC focus, in the history of video games and most of titles make you see yourself as "the protagonist", "the untouchable", unfortunately this is not the reality, everything you see, can go in one second and in an infinity of ways.

Death is something that comes unexpectedly, something you can not adorn even if you do your best, you should not worry about how to die, but how to live while you still have time.

It took me a while to get through the bitter drink, but that's the way it is.

In relation to the "antagonist" (Abbey) I will never be able to empathize with someone of her caliber (after what she did), at a certain point you manage to understand the reason for her incessant desire to kill Joel, who ultimately becomes the Ellie's same desire / addiction for killing her, a vicious circle of revenge that as we saw can be very dangerous.

Playing with the antagonistic character is a very risky move that Neil took, and indeed, I hated every second, but I couldn't deny the fact that it was an essential part of the story and that one of my favorite scenes takes place while you play with she (the war between the seraphites and the wolves), this scene together with the soundtrack is an injection of adrenaline, in the midst of the chaos that breaks out between two "cults" that after all for lack of dialogue and their different methods to achieve the same objective, they cause a carnage, taking everything in their path (even children).

I could go on to say an endless number of wonders of this installment, from the symbolism, the small details and references, the soundtrack, the soundtrack, the photography outside and inside the cinematics, the criticism of the way to carry out certain religions and As they conflict, the incredible and subtle way they introduced the LGBT community from the first game, the DLC, and how it continued and developed, even the simplest details in the dialogue make the difference between a good and a bad script.

She couldn't even have asked for a more poetic ending, after Ellie's intense fear of ending up alone, which was raised from the very first installment, along with her childhood story, which she discusses with Joel and is featured in the comic and on "left behind "(where all her loved ones die or abandon her), and after all the decisions she made, good or bad, her greatest fear ended up becoming reality, leaving her with no other option but to accept it.

A devastating ending and certainly not for anyone.

But the most heartbreaking part is the one on the porch, where Joel says to Ellie:

    - "If somehow God gave me another chance, I would do it all over again" (referring to saving her)

    To which Ellie replies:

    -Yes ... I just ... I don't think I can forgive you ...

(because for her, dying to give a cure to humanity would have given her life meaning)

Ellie: But I would like to try.

    Joel: I would like that.

    Ellie: okay.

Thus ending the last words that were said, with another "okay" (same as in the first game, but with a different meaning)

I couldn't contain the tears in that scene ...

The relationship between Joel and Ellie and the love of "father and daughter" never disappears, it is absent after his death, but it stays there ... in her memories. When a story is told from the heart it becomes art, and it can be seen from the passion transmitted by those who managed to develop this love masterpiece. ... because that's what The Last of Us is a love letter for those who leave and stay in our memory.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II was truly a journey from start to finish. The game was extremely well written having players go on a journey as both Ellie and Abby. Ellie's story truly pulls on your heart. Players will find themselves lost in a world of horror and anger. I truly hated Abby when I started playing as her since she killed Joel, one of my favorite characters. By the end of playing as her, you come to love her and want her to succeed. The ending teaches players that revenge is not always the correct answer. Revenge cost Ellie everything she ever loved, almost getting her killed.
The game mechanics truly are amazing. Fighting is incredibly smooth and gives players a ton of options on how to play. You can run and gun or you can be stealthy in your encounters with enemies. There are intense and graphic death scenes that help players get immersed in life during the zombie apocalypse. All enemies have names so killing them will cause their friends to cry about the deaths of their friends. The game is also extremely scary filled with more then just typical jump scares. This game is a must-play for all players.

I was disappointed about that. And Ellie's actions are stupid at the end of the game. She broke Dina, why? And Tommy is not Tommy from the 1st part. He was smart brother in 1st part and he will newer ask Elly to find Abby. I didn't like the plot Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Personally, I absolutely loved this game but that’s just my opinion. I can completely understand why it isn’t for everyone, however. I think a lot of people have missed the point entirely when it came to Joel dying. The whole point was to be angry about it to put you in Ellie’s shoes and feel what she’s going through. This couldn’t have had as much of an impact if it was anyone else who died so it was a huge sacrifice for the needed response. That being said, I realise why that would put a lot of fans off and all I can say is if you give this game a chance, you’ll be greatly rewarded. With that out the way, I think the story was very well paced and had lots of interesting twists and turns. I was definitely resistant to play as Abby initially. I was convinced there was nothing Naughty Dog could do to make me like her, but by the end, she really grew on me. This is partially down to the great story telling, but also because the acting and level of detail in the facial animations really conveys the emotions of the characters. I think it goes without saying that the graphics are without a doubt, the best this console generation has ever seen. Naughty Dog never fail when it comes to the sheer level of detail fidelity and the result is outstanding. There were so many occasions I just had to stop and look around to really take in this amazingly well crafted world and I loved it. The gameplay, admittedly, is a little clunky and outdated. There’s one scene where I was trying to ride a horse and sprint with it holding L1 and also aim a gun with L2 and that just isn’t a comfortable way to play for me. That being said, the controls didn’t bother me that much because the battles felt really incredible to play. So much raw explosive power accompanied with incredible animations, satisfying sound effects and really tense music made such an exciting game. For me, this is the best game I’ve ever played and I’d have massively missed out if I payed attention to the amount of hate this game has got. If you’re on the fence about playing it, just get yourself a second hand copy when it’s cheap and see for yourself, you won’t be sorry you did. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I get why people hated this, I was one for about 60% of my playthrough yet 2 days post completion this game is on my mind 24/7. This is simply a story of what revenge can do to a person and how when faced with the worst situations imaginable and in our darkest moments, our ability to forgive is what can save us. I understand the story ND are trying to tell and forcing you to play as Abby, the character who brutally murders Joel in the first 2 hours of the game, for about 50% of the game initially is awful. I'm sure I'm not the only one who spent more time then is healthy walking Abby into infected and throwing her of ledges. What this does though is force you as the player to see how being consumed by a need for revenge can cost you. Ellie lost Jesse, Dina, JJ and her chance of a peaceful happy life in her pursuit of revenge and Abby lost Owen, Yara, Manny, her steady life and her dog in hers. All this stems from avenging their surrogate and actual fathers respectively and the way ND makes you see this from both perspectives in uncomfortable however a genius and bold move. I hated Abby after she killed Joel, i absolutely despised her yet in the final showdown I did not want to kill her. For those who say Abby lost nothing, im sorry but no. All her close companions are dead, unlike Ellies (Dina, Tommy and JJ are alive at the end) and where she and Lev ended up, i would not wish that on my worst enemy and that resort haunts me at the thought of the horrors that occurred there. Ellie showed little character growth until the very end but that was the perfect moment for her to realise, her killing Abby would not bring Joel back nor would it undo the horrors she has both faced and inflicted. She made a decision to let go and to finally give herself a chance to grow and to heal and I dont know where she will end up, but I'd like to think she is back in Jackson with JJ and Dina and happily letting Tommy think Abby is dead. This is not a pretty game but it never pretended to be in terms of story. It is bleak, it is uncomfortable and it forces you to ask and answer difficult questions. What other form of entertainment can do that for you?

Pacing can be a bit of a mess at times and certain bits can drag out, you spend a lot of time questionning the point of it all and it can be glitchy in parts. I also absolutely bloody hated having to kill Alice, Abbys dog and in combat you will probably have to kill many more pooches which a lot of people will hate but in this world its kill or be killed.

The graphics are stunning and the way your environment reacts to your presence reflect the attention to detail poured into this game.

The flashback scenes are heartbreaking and poignant and serve a purpose as well as providing more insight into the events that occurred over the 4 year gap.

Overall, play this game I urge you and come to your own conclusion. If you arent sure you want to drop this much money on a game you think you really really wont like, wait until it drops in price but it deserves to be experienced and doesn't deserve the hate it is getting elsewhere.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have been waiting for a sequel to my favorite game of all time for 7 long years. The Last of us was the first game to make me actually tear up and I actually felt emotionally invested into the world of Joel and Ellie. TLOU2 Does not do that. Bad dialogue. Bad writing. Uninteresting characters they really all feel like they are just there for a paycheck and that’s it. Forced villain. Then naughty dog forces us to play as her. Killing main characters and then never mentioned again. I felt nothing when anyone ever died. If it wasn’t for the combat and the graphics then I would have popped my disk out and stopped shortly after Joel died. They tried to Villainize Joel. The gore and deaths were shock value nothing of meaning. I really did enjoy the moments with Lev and Abby. But it was constant bad thing after bad thing happening to everyone, in the first game there was that light in all the darkness. There was smiles and charm, it felt good. Here it’s all violence and just horrible things with nothing light at all. And then that final fight between Abby and Ellie I thought I had her. After everything it would pay off. Nah chief. Ellie let’s her walk. Ellie has lost two fingers. Her Girlfriend and her baby. Has lost friends. Has lost Joel. She lost Her whole life to abby. Yet she lets her get up and leave, what a joke. When I was playing as Abby I purposely kill myself just so I could see this girl die, then I’d laugh and be like “soon lol” boy was I wrong. I have never felt more disrespected by a company then I do now with naughty dog. I thought EA was bad but I guess that apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. At the end of the day i feel this was a mindless cash grab with no real value. Hey, they took my money didn’t they. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
