People are always looking for games that make them feel in a good way, like the first one, you know, like the definition between black and white, the good guys and the bad guys but the second one breaks with that, here are only gray (depending on your point of view), that's the good thing about this incredible game.

With last of us 2 base of the problem is the story tries to be not like last of us 1. Meybe writers does not even understand the story telling tricks of last of us 1 and what type of story it is, why it worked, i think Neil Druckmann delusionaly belives last of us 1 to be something more then what it is and because of that he thinks his "genius-ness" of masterful and complex story telling is the reason why people love last of us 1, this delusion turns his confidence into a trap and eventualy causes the downfall of the story in the last of us 2. Last of us 2 acts a lot like kojima games, and it takes huge inspirations from games like mgs2 sons of liberty, and death stranding among others. now taking inspriration does not mean you are not being innovative, you cannot start from 0. every thing is build on top of the things come before but if you are litteraly the flag ship of the gaming industury, i think you should be more innovative but not simply take unnecicery risks, after all you are making a product not just art. last of us 2 fails at taking necicery risk and making them worth it, while i appresiate the taken risks in first few hours of the game, i think these risksl will put so many people down that already payed 60 dolars to the game and there is no goind back at that point. Marketing of the game is trying so hard to hide these things and i think this is a big f*** you to these people because,it pusposefully missinforms the customer. It is almost like "if you dont agree with us you are dumb and we know better you better be agreeing with us because you dont have much choice, you eiter already wasted your money or continue playing the game and try to agree with us."and it sucks. Now lets talk about innovation and inspiration part. Again last of us 2 takes a lot of inspiration from kojima, it acts like kojima games, but it does try to innovate on a genius material without being genius.they deffinitly do not understand the mecanics of the desing on inspired material, they just focus on the shiny parts of tricks kojima uses, and they do not study how kojima makes them work.Kojima always makes his games self-conscious even tho he wants to make movies,he knows he makes games.Last of us 2 is not self-conscious it wants to be a movie but it is not, becausese of this mistake gameplay becomes a drag and immersion braking, pacing is bad,it tries so hard to humanize the enemies for the sake of being a movie like experience but ai becomes predictable and robotic after some time, combat encounters almost always plays the same it act like giving choice to the player but choices player makes do not vary compared to the encounter count at some point in the story main character of the game starts to torture someone they hates, at this point you already understand the "genius messege" of the game but game gives you the control and the only thing you can do is press a button that tortures the person, there is no other ways to proggres the game, you know the main character has lost it and what they are doing is wrong but game thinks it is genius and treats you like an idiot, this is the main problem with last of us 2, it is constantly forced in every way, writing/story telling/gamplay, it belives it self too much so it does not realize the problems it has. and i as a person that payed money and time to this game, i think i have the right to say i expect a more proffesional product from the cutting edge production level of the gaming industry.

As of the final of this review i would like to example my critique with few fancy and blunt but meaningful sentences.

"Last Of Us Part II is not a game but a bad movie"

"Baby's first 'I have a message to deliver' story"

    "The Walking Dead with teenegers"

"It is a technical masterpiece, but it is a bad game"

If i have to do something i normally would not do, reggarding the metacritic scores controversy, i would give it a 7 out of 10.

Sorry for my writing i already wasted 4 hours writing this review im too lazy and tired to go through and fix all of this, i hope you understand the points im trying to make.

I hated the story. Honestly this is not what I expected from a Naughty Dog game they could have done a wonderful job but instead Neil Druckmann ruined the story. This game doesn’t even come close to the first one. If you are a The last of us fan don’t waste your money on this game, just pretend Part 2 never happened.

The game is still as immersive and enjoyable as the first game. The graphics are impressive, visually the best. But the story is a joke, without a doubt the worst thing about this game. You would only earn a grade for the visual.

Many people will likely dislike this game, but I personally can’t help but commend it for its ability to truly do something risky and succeed with it! The gameplay is some of the best stealth combat I have ever played and the story kicks you in the gut constantly! Switching from one protagonist to the antagonist at first made me feel unsure and worried but as the story continued on it truly turned into a remarkable experience with Both of our playable characters dealing with their choices! Getting revenge is truly a satisfying and dark experience until the game takes you to a place where it isn’t and watching Ellie come to terms with overcoming her anger and hate! I recommend trying this game as I believe it is one that will be talked about for a long time! Expand

Let's be honest. This is not the worst game. But because of the venality of all gaming journalists, the public has to somehow degenerate their discontent. They would give an adequate assessment and people would react normally. And so the game is 5-6 / 10, at least I got some pleasure from it.

Hold on here folks, I will try my best to give some genuine constructive criticism on this game. It's hard to see why people are upset when all the critical reviews don't really explain it, so allow me. I'll also say the good, the bad, the ugly. It's annoying to see a bunch of negative (and positive) reviews from people who have obviously never played the game. The Last of Us 2 makes meHold on here folks, I will try my best to give some genuine constructive criticism on this game. It's hard to see why people are upset when all the critical reviews don't really explain it, so allow me. I'll also say the good, the bad, the ugly. It's annoying to see a bunch of negative (and positive) reviews from people who have obviously never played the game. The Last of Us 2 makes me appreciate games like the first Walking Dead game, and movies like Logan, because they know how to send off a main character. The story was actually kind of bland? I did not expect this from Naughty Dog, we have seen the same revenge theme everywhere but for this game it is a chore to get through. It isn't even deep or well thought out, it's like a middle schooler could create a more complex theme. Yes, revenge is bad and hurts people around you. Not only is this generic and overplayed, but they made it as shallow and surface level as possible. They could have at least made it a little more complex, this is just bad writing. They had years. The gameplay is an improvement but is still repetitive, and the game is very long so it's actually kind of boring. Especially when you stop caring about most parts of the game when you realize how bad the story is. This is the first Naughty Dog game I've ever played where I wasn't wholly engaged. I don't know what happened. If someone told me that I would be checking my phone while playing a sequel to one of the most beloved games of all time, I wouldn't believe you. It almost seems rushed, I'd be fine with a revenge story if it wasn't so surface level and generic. The writing also took a step back. The first game felt like a movie with the smart dialogue, being constantly engaging, and having fleshed out characters. Elie doesn't have much of a personality anymore. Major characters died so suddenly and were never mentioned again, but they weren't well developed anyways so I didn't even remember some of their names, so whatever. Character development isn't really here either. I added an extra star for the amazing visuals and voice acting. That should be recognized. I also liked the representation of LGBT in the movie, as it didn't really interfere with the game and it was just nice to see. I will say though, the game spends more time on saying that Elie is lesbian and showing sex scenes than actually developing her (or anyone else's) character and personality, which was confusing to me. I don't have a problem with the characters not being likeable, I'm fine with that, they just aren't well developed and the whole thing was just very shallow. Nothing interesting at all. Even after the leaks I was expecting something at least a little bit good, I mean it's Naughty Dog. I was expecting some things to be surprising and divisive, but never would I think this would've been boring or badly written. If you actually watch some people play, many streamers have the "let's just get through this" attitude instead of the "I am loving this" attitude of the first game. Many have quit or talk about wanting to quit. It's rare to see them end streams early because they're just "bored," such as what PewDiePie did. This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a sequel to The Last of Us. Even if it was separate and called something else, this game would not be very good. It would not make the writing any better or the gameplay less boring. It's a competent game, it's just unremarkable. One of Naughty Dog's most bland games, it is sad to see such a beloved studio fall from grace like this because I'm sure many of the bad decisions here were made by just a handful of people. There is so much talent in that studio, and I still believe in them, so I am just going to pretend this game does not exist. Might be one of the biggest disappointments I have ever seen. When someone buys a PS4 and asks what games to get, you immediately recommend them the latest Naughty Dog game. But I would not recommend friends this game, not just people who were fans of the first, but even casual and unassuming gamers that just want to find a good game. This is not a good game and I am having a hard time understanding why some people would rate this higher than a 7/10. There's no substance or anything even engaging in this game. I came in here with an open mind and there are some pretty obvious flaws. Expand

For 2013 the gameplay was fantastic but I felt it was at best routine and at worst felt bored. I still like the crafting mechanics but felt it could have been improved seeing as a similar AAA title 'Days Gone' had done this element better in their game last year. I discovered that I had a lot of glitches in my playtrue. I ran into instances when fighting enemies where I fell through walls into nothingness repeatedly. Other times, my character became stuck on invisible ladders while climbing walls. If it happened once or twice, I would let it slide but it felt like the game was made with a first day patch in mind. From a graphics standpoint, I expected much more. The graphics are improved since the last game circa 2013, which is expected, yet are not as groundbreaking as I have heard from friends. They are quite similar if not slightly worse than the graphics from 'RDR2' and 'GOW' which came out more than two years ago. That being said, the graphics were one of the things I enjoyed about the game. The story was difficult to get through. I was able to understand characters motivations but felt that the execution was lacking. I enjoyed Ellies relationship with Dina but could not connect with any of the other new characters in the same way. I felt that Jesse's character in particular could have been fleshed out more given the games running time, which ran longer than the first. It made me hard to sympathise with these new characters when the revenge plot kicks in. I think the game lacks the ambiguity of its predecessor. The first game made characters organically feel grey. Joel, Marlene, Bill and Ellie all had their own intentions that you could understand even if you disagreed with it. Most of the characters in the first seemed to show human emotion towards their actions, both the good and the bad yet the sequel strays from this. Even the worst characters in the first showed a glimpse of humanity in their actions yet the sequel takes all of the humanity out of the characters. Overall, in a story driven game if you find yourself at times bored and at others wishing to play other excellent story driven games such as 'Life is Strange' or 'Telltales TWD' then you know the story has issues. What rightfully annoys people the most is that they hag a great but completely obliterate it with this "sequel". The story is boring, lazy, rushed, and without any development whatsoever in characters or plots. The focused on enforcing a scheme of ideologies rather than develop an intricate and interesting story line for each of the characters. They tried so hard so be "political correct" that they ended up with a product that lack of logic and sense. They did bad to the LGBT community in this case. They could have created a well-told story line for the romance between Dina & Ellie, could have explained more about the journey between Ellie & Joe, could have better introduce the new characters but not, they decided to rushed everything and ended up with an unpolished and mediocre product.

Naughty Dog deserves nothing but contempt from the gaming community.

Some of the main characters problems seem to be taken out of a conversation between teenagers at a whole foods and don't explain why they act so crazy sometimes. The writing is poor at best, is so hard to relate with the characters and it seems that they fill those gaps with gratuitous violence and cussing. The storyline forces you to make decisions and then lectures you about how bad of a person you are for making them. I"m less than 10 hrs in and I am having so much trouble getting through it. It's so slow. And that might change but even if it does, it just simply doesn't have much to offer gameplay wise. You run around scavenging for single bullets for 5 minutes sometimes in the dark and you hope you might run into zombies or in this game other people too but even if you do all you do is sneak around and try to stealth kill them and sometimes leave traps and sometimes shoot one or three or your 10 bullets. Then for another 10-15 minutes or longer you look for another door or another power switch to open another door but you have to run in circles and check 8 other doors to find the right one to open. Most reviews do not like the story but i have no issues necessarily with the risks they took with it. that's their choice and just bc ppl don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. The gameplay however is poorly paced, slow, lacking, and honestly possibly the most boring game i've played this year. For me this game is like a 3 or a 4. For most people I think you'll find it a 7. The truth is that killing a character in an inversely stupid way, and putting the player in the place of a villain to face another beloved character is simply absurd when it comes to storytelling. In an effort to "innovate" and make a storyline that "invites the player to reflect", all the writers do is a teenage story that completely destroys the best of the title. Expand

Jessie is just their to impregnate Dina and nothing more but to make a family for Ellie and Dina, Joel saves Abby and she kills him with no hesitation,no remorse, tommy is basically useless and just there for no reason.he is saved for convenience to plot to tell Ellie where Abby is, if tommy had no other purpose but to tell Ellie where Abby is he’d be dead. The men are just seen as useless or plain evil in this game and it’s disgusting. Personally it’s amazing, how people don’t catch on that some feminist like Anita sharkeishan are not good for the lgbtq community or hollywood or even any community because it’s deeper than equality it’s just hate towards men and carries the same weight as racism.it makes me cry that tlou2 had to suffer from hate in the real world to get covered by “wokeness, or diversity, or whatever they try to mask this ugliness with” Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a fantastic game with amazing graphics, voice acting, gameplay and characters. I felt each character was interesting and while at first I hated Abby and her friends, the more I played as her, the more I grew to like her as a character. (I won’t lie though, during the fight in the theatre between her and Ellie I was rooting for Ellie to kick Abby’s ass.) There are some aspects of this game that I would personally change, but the few things I have problems with don’t affect how I feel about the outcome of the game. I don’t mind that Ellie decided to let her go. Obviously everyone’s opinions are their own, but this is a game you need to play with an open mind and with empathy for a character we immediately learn to hate. Abby doesn’t have to be our favorite character (she’s definitely not mine), but she has suffered with loss as well and to write her off as nothing more than a mustache-twirling villain would be wrong. You don’t necessarily have to love the story to enjoy the gameplay. This game was so much fun to explore and I urge everyone to play it to completion with an open mind to gather your own thoughts on how you felt about the experience. I personally will be playing it again because I already know there are things I’ve missed on my first play through. The new characters are so enjoyable. I love Dina, Jesse, Yara, Lev, and even Manny managed to grow on me. I wasn’t a huge fan of Owen or Mel, but I still felt for them. I also loved reading through Ellie’s journal! It was such a nice touch that gave us insight on her thoughts and feelings, especially since she has grown to become more quiet and reserved as a character. The scenery was breathtaking. I loved riding around on Shimmer (RIP Shimmer) and taking in the surroundings. The overgrown plant life and desolated buildings were so cool to explore. I also thoroughly enjoyed descending that huge building as Abby when we are with Lev. The infected are pretty great. The Stalkers were unnerving, as were the infected that just decided to pop out of the walls for no good reason other than to make my life harder than it needs to be. The Shamblers sucked, but just because they scared the **** out of me. The Rat King had me yelling and making rounds on that hospital floor like a big baby. By the end of that encounter I was just wishing for some good old fashioned Clickers. As for my final thoughts: this game was beautifully done overall. I wish we got more time with Ellie but I understand why we didn’t. I’m crossing my fingers for a DLC or a potential third game. I hope you get the chance to enjoy the game for yourself! Endure and survive, everyone. Expand

Honestly having played the first last of us game, it was such a fun and enticing game, with an amazing storyline. It was both fun and harrowing experience playing.

But with this sequel, the only redeeming factor is the soundtrack and graphics. And that is all I can be amazed of, the gameplay hasn't changed much with a few tweaks and kinks being fixed from the first game, the characters aren't invested enough for me to be attached to and especially how the game just brush of the history of the first game for a cliche revenge story. Naughty dog definitely screwed up with this game, they could have delivered an amazing game even with just using Ellie as the only main character but no, they have to screw it up by bringing in a new character(Abby) which we the fans of the first game have no emotional value towards, so many flaws here and there, oh and I couldn't care less about using female characters, but at least make them likeable for us the players. The ending could also have been more impactful for us if it justified the death of Joel, it's hard seeing him die a dog's death with no reason.

This game took 7 years for them to make, it could have been better especially that storyline. Fans are already accustomed to the dark tone and are ready for anything Naughty dog could have given them, but this is just a complete mess, the amount of dark tone in this game isn't even justifiable. Seriously disappointed as a long time fan of both Naughty dog and the TLOU franchise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay is a step up from the original with new and smoother animations, introduced mechanics and a few extra craftables and player upgrades available. I certainly had fun exploring Seattle and Santa Barbara in all its glory. The visuals and sound effects are second to none and the amount of detail in each level is remarkable. HOWEVER, the story and characters are something else entirely. Joel has been around since outbreak day and has always had trust issues when it comes to people e.g. He sees an ‘injured’ man in Pittsburgh and knows it’s a trap straight away. He leaves a family on the side of the road at the start of tlou. Yet the writing in this game is so bad that we’re expected to believe he’s going to tell a bunch of strangers his name, about the settlement and where they’re living, and then stand in the middle of the room surrounded and helpless like a deer in the headlights. It’s tragic when Joel dies but what’s worse is the ludicrously unbelievable way in which it happens. This is why people are pissed, not because Joel is dead, but because of how he dies. Even before his death the writers have undone everything from the first game as the relationship between Joel and Ellie is uncomfortable from the start of part 2. I would have preferred Ellie to have found out the truth about the fireflies at the very end of part 2, thus not tainting her relationship with Joel as well as justifying why she spared Abby as she realises Joel deserves to die for his actions. After finishing the game some 25 hours later, I can tell you the story continues its downward trend throughout, with choppy flashbacks and a skewed timeline; it’s as if the writers dropped the script and then couldn’t put the pages back the right way so just went with it anyway. Character development is lacking, I found myself caring more about the death of Tess after 30 minutes of gameplay in tlou than the death of characters like Jesse and whatever Levs’ sister’s name is after hours of playing with them in tlou2. There’s millions of other points to touch on about this game but I’m already repeating what thousands of fans have already said. It’s a shame a storyline as remarkable as tlou is brought down by an unnecessary sequel. Also lack of factions is very disappointing. Ignore all the stupid 0/10. Even if you think the story is hot garbage, the game itself is enjoyable and the immersion of the world is impeccable. Anything less than 3-4/10 would be a false review from someone who is; joining the bandwagon of hate, reached Joel’s death and is angry, believes that the directors and writers have an agenda to push. You don’t spend 7 years making a game to push an agenda onto the world.
