At first, as a player, I didn’t give a **** about the soul, namely the murder of Joel, then they didn’t allow me to avenge it. The game is about revenge, through the whole game we carried revenge, killing innocent people and not only, but in the end we just let Abby go without justice, that is, the plot for the sake of what we ultimately cannot to do. I would understand if there was a choice or the ending came from the player’s actions, but no. The game is great, I don’t argue with this, but the ending was ruined, even the gray morality cannot be inserted here, a la she forgave her, huh, is it that Ally went for the heads of other people for the sake of this, is this normal in principle?

    I must say, I went through 40% of this game and it is disgusting, i dont want to play it anymore. Yeah i heard about it's weak plot, and forcing of lgbt subjects, marasmic ending (i have already seen it on youtube) weak gameplay that is boring and didn't changed, but didn't believe.     Horrible story, each part of the game just kept me feeling more and more depressed, and when you finish it you feel like it could have a better ending. The graphics and the game mechanics are excellent, but I wonder why did they had to make such a mess in the story...

I dont feel they added enough new infected types of enemies so that was a bit of a disappointment. To the real reason the game upsets me is the narrative direction ND took the fame. The switching of gameplay between ellie and Abby was annoying. I didnt care for Abby as a character and I dont think she had much development and was the typical i want revenge and im upset. They could have went so many directions with this game and to me it feels like every wrong path they could have taken they did. I said feom day one that the first last of us was damn near the perfect game. It ended in such a way it didn't need a sequel and making one would definitely fall short of the first and ruin the magic the first one created. I feel that scenario I imagined has come true. So to recap. Amazing graphics. Good solid gameplay but a very lacklusyer narrative that graphics and gameplay couldn't carry. Im giving it a 2/10. The score might seem harsh but I feel ND let fans down and really ignored the things that made the first one special and to try and be out there and go for shock value only shocked in the wrong way and led to gamers joining together to review bomb the game. Also the rumored horrible work environments and early leaks didnt help.… Expand

Its a game that makes you look things from different points of view i wouldn’t give it a 10/10 bc I know naughty dog could have done better, maybe even it wouldn’t have so much hate if it wasn’t for the leaks. people are simply hating it and not Even haven’t Finished the game.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a very big fan of the story of the first game, i have to say that not only i feel insulted, but also disappointed. Story is a very cliché revenge story, where you are forced to kill people you don’t care about and them forced to feel bad about, even when again, these characters are so disposable, that you cant feel any emotion when they die. Gameplay is the same from the first game, with a few new puzzles, plus the old ones that were already stale. After 7 years, the AI is just as dumb, they still do the same kind of patrolling, and you can still strangle someone while they scream next to another npc that doesnt notice. The soundtrack and the graphics are amazing, and those are what gives this review the positive points. Santaolalla’s soundtrack is outstanding. The game relies too much on the story, so much that some sections are just walk from point a to point b, watch a cutscene, get the same encounter where you can sneak against some enemies, and repeat. For a character that doesnt forget a guy that insults her and giver her free food in the apocalypse, it doesn't lake sense that she would forgive the person who killed her father figure. Abby’s sections feel forced and you never get to feel sad for her. You already saw her father’s death as a consequence for a tough decision, and again, every time you play as her, you just want the section to end. The flashbacks are the best and i would prefer to just play those instead of the rest of the story.… Expand

It was long-long and extremely boring adventure without any single reason why it must be connected with one of a best games ever created.

    This is a game that has been controversial since its release, I am sure that many who play it will be angered, saddened and understandably frustrated. I sure was, however, this is not a usual story. Part 2 definitely took some risks, but I wholeheartedly believe that everything has a reason, and it definitely pays off in the end. This is a story centered around both the characters and several important lessons in morality and philosophy. The way I saw it, the events in the first game blend perfectly into this one. They are two sides of the same coin. Love and Hate, Hope and Despair, Salvation and destruction.

    The gameplay and visuals are spectacular, there were many moments that I enjoyed because of this. It gave me the chance to take a lot of good pictures. The controls and gameplay are the same as The Last of Us 1, with tons of accessibility options that I appreciated. I think TLoU2 sets a new bar for expectations in the gaming industry. You can tell that a large group of passionate developers worked hard to bring us a story that will stay with us for a long time. Having said this, I also think some people will not like the choices in the story.

    **SPOILERS FROM HERE**

    I think that Abby was a very well written character with strong and justifiable motivations. Her journey in the beginning of the game to get revenge on Joel is perfectly reflected on Ellie's journey to hunt her down. They are both fueled by grief they believe will only be cured once they accomplish their goal. No matter how much pain they cause to the people around them. Jesse, Dina, Tommy, Manny, Mel, Owen. They all were dragged into a battle between two unstoppable and determined forces of destruction. Playing the game from Abby's point of view is not a cheap way to make the players sympathize with her, it shows us how anyone can go through pain. Her journey with Lev somehow reflects how as anyone will go to far lengths for revenge, they will do the same thing for love.

    This is the main lesson of The Last of Us 2, there are no protagonists or villains in real life. Everyone is trying to live their life the best way they can. I applaud this game for taking this path, giving us a depressing but thoughtful ending that hopefully provides a great example for storytelling in the future. I think anyone should give The Last of Us Part 2 a playthrough and form their own conclusion, for me it is one of the best games of the generation.    … Expand

    This game is absolutely astounding. Those that are mad at the story, please cry all you want. Life doesn’t work the way you want it to. This games story is one of the most grounded and raw experiences I have seen. It’s an astounding achievement.

    The gameplay itslef is very similar to the first game which is about all the positivity I have towards the game the actual narrative of this game is nothing short of a dumpster fire. Play at your own risk and please dont buy at full price and feel the regret that I am currently feeling.

I am spectator to it and was so impressed with the darker storyline, the character development and the ability to traverse the environment. And the graphics, omg the graphics and animation are beautifully done.

    You killed off the main character we played for 95% of the first game and then try to blame the reactions from gamers on not being woke and inclusive enough?

    I gave it a 2 point score for the graphics and environment.
    But a minus 98 for failure in storytelling.

So perhaps my standards are higher than most fans of the series. But the jump in visuals and game play seem very minor for a new AAA game. That alone was what earned the 2 pity points.

    Every thing else about this game was pretty much a disappointment. How Sony and Naughtdog handled themselves leading up to it's release, the false promises and misleading trailers left a pretty sour taste in your mouth once you sit down and start playing the game. It was no surprise that I managed to get this game used about 24 hours after it's release, mostly so I wouldn't support the company with my purchase.

    The story is bleak, depressing and pretty much the core of the game. No one plays a single player story driven game to hate the story. So while the graphics, music, game play are some what average the main focus drives the score down imo. I thought about giving it a zero just to off set all the all the fake positive reviews but in the end decided it would be unfair.

    One of the features I found the most annoying is the complete by the rails story telling your forced into. This is a super linear game with pretty much no player choices that affect anything. Given the almost open world nature of the game and long slogs between story elements this seemed odd to me. It's like it wanted to be a Bethesda game, but couldn't be bothered to have branching story options or multiple endings.

    In the end this game is a mediocre game at best with a beyond disappointing pay off and story. If you love watching people and animals be tortured, mutilated and killed for 25+ hours this is the game for you. Otherwise give it a pass and watch the news for a few hours and you'll be just as depressed.    … Expand

    I really did not expect such a bad story after all these years of waiting. While there were some really good points, most of the games were filled with holes in the plot. It just took elements of what worked in the first game, not understanding what makes them irresistible. I really did not like the game

Joel was never a good person, he was always somewhat despicable, yet he loved and protected those close to him. To the Fireflies, Joel was a heartless villain. And this game aims to address that. You spend the first half of the game despising Abby and her friends for killing Joel and then you go on a killing spree as Ellie, slaughtering these people you see as monsters. In the second half, you play from the other perspective, and come to love the characters you spent the first half of the game murdering. They are good people who do bad things, just as Ellie is a good person who does bad things. Both Ellie and Abby are out for vengeance over the death of a loved one. Both of them are simultaneously wrong and right all at the same time. The game forces you to come to grips with the fact that the NPCS in video games that you kill in cold blood, have people who love them. And to them YOU are the bad guy. It's a lot to handle, and I can't think of another example where it has been done before. There are no bad guys, there are no good guys; it's all a matter of perspective.… Expand

    I thought there game was fantastic, and while I understand a few of the plot points might have been upsetting for some people, the story was exceptionally well told. Each of the points that have engendered such controversy were well earned and meticulously set up in the first game.

    While I do think players complaining about how this game is more like a movie than a game have a point, because it is, it would be equally as valid to complain that it's not an arcade style game like pac-man. This is a narrative game. It is sorry driven, and if that's not your cup of tea, then this game may not be for you.

    Honestly, though, after having played the game, I came away feeling like most of the critics are simply offended by the diverse cast of characters, and their complaints say more about their bigotry than they do about the game.

    The story is very good, but if you can't get past THAT moment, you'll never understand it. Many people expected something else and when they got this their brain just went *puff*

    Listen to me, the game is good. I'm giving 10/10 only because i think it's unfair from us to take down a big work that took them 5 years to develop. It's not as good as the first, but i honestly think it's an amazing game, but you can fully enjoy it only if you played the predecessor.

    Btw about the gameplay: yes it's like 7 years ago plus some little new features... yeah, so is that bad? what you expected? a change like GTA from 2D to 3D? Guys, the gameplay of a sequel 99% of the times is the same as the previous game, it's logical. The new characters are good (not everyone is good as the older ones, but to be fair, even in the first one we had 2 elite characters and all the others were just good or average, nothing that good)

    Gameplay is decent. Dodging mechanic is pretty fun. The story, on the other hand, is one of the worst things I have ever seen/played. Completely undermines why i loved the characters of the original. It’s nowhere close to a 10/10 game but it’s not a 0/10 either.

If I was able to kill her at the end the same way you get to kill Zeus, and Ellie didn't get her fingers bit off I would give the game a least an 8/10 but they ruined it. Naughty dog used to be one of my favorite video game developers but they just lost a fan. They ruined one of my favorite games. It's a revenge story without revenge I don't care if they wanted to get their revenge is bad story across, it's just a bad dissatisfying story that literally made me depressed after. It's a damn game for crying out loud! I don't want to leave a damn game feeling empty!     The game has beautiful scenarios, an awesome ost, and a better gameplay than the original. But the history is awful. If the game were one hour shorter, it would be a 9, because I really got happy at the final part. But the epilogue ruined it all. The last chapter, that ending they give to the game is a spit for the fans and the original game.

    The story is the heart of a videogame like this, and it just died. I feel like they wanted to defy what we expected and that's totally fine, but there must be a reward behind. Something that makes us feel that everything was worth it. Here that doesn't happen; in fact, it feels like the game punishes you for playing it.

The Last of Us though, was something different. It was something that I felt so connected with, something that hit me so deep I can’t every truly describe how much it meant. Ofcourse I was looking forward to the Last of Us 2. My most hyped game by far. What I got was something that broke my heart like the first, but in the worst way. A game can be dark, a game can be depressing. It can mimic the real world and still make something great. The Last of Us 2 took a great foundation, a game that helped in a time where I was so consumed by my own grief, and spat in my face. It spat in the face of so many others who held the solid story of the first so near and dear. TLOU2 is a graphically beautiful game that holds some of the ugliest storytelling I’ve ever seen. I’m not an angry fanboy. I’m a broken girl who was dealing with the grief of losing my father and found solace in the relationship between two other broken people. TLOU2 throws away all that development which is the very thing the first had going for it.

    I can't believe that after 7 years this is what they made. This game is a massive disappointment. The plot sucks, and the leaks were unfortunately true. Outside of a few flashbacks, there's nothing enjoyable. Save your money.

I expected a well thought out, excellently written storyline. Instead I got a storyline dedicated to destroying beloved characters from part I, which was not well thought out, was not written well, and was full of ridiculous plot holes.
    It does not matter that the graphics of the game is top-tier, or that the gameplay is smooth, or that that the background and environment is amazing, when the story is a pile of dung. And this is especially true for a sequel of a game that became famous because of the story. If I were to compare this to a steak dinner, then TLOU2 would have top quality mash potatoes, and asparagus cooked perfectly, basically the sides would be amazing. But the steak itself would be a 2 dollar rotting piece of meat overseared, overcooked and not looking too good.    … Expand

When it comes to scenery, voice acting and acting in general, the lightning, all the mechanics and how well every detail in the game was amazingly thought out, truly I was in awe for all of those things, but it´s A STORY BASED GAME, and it´s sums up to nothing when the story is disappointing. Now I expected to Joel to die in this second part, I was ready for that, but to kill him that way? I got mad at the fact that Joel and Tommy walked into a group like that without any hesitation, they survived for years, they know not to trust people, but they did and that was so out of character from both. Also this games forces you to do the worst things when you´re playing as Ellie, and then tries to be the savior with Abby with a hidden agenda to get you as a player to like Abby which fails completely on my part. Also those 5+ hours of playing Abby were so boring, I found myself not even searching for collectibles and just wanted to get it over with. Lev and Yara were interesting characters which lighted up the mood when playing as Abby. Also hated the fact that you have to beat up Ellie. Spent the whole first game trying to protect Ellie so that they make us beat her on the second? what is all that about? I wish we had more character development with Jesse and Dina, they had great potential. Like that bonfire scene talked about Ellie mentioned before playing the guitar, I would have loved to see how they played out. that way we had a better idea of how good Ellie had it and how much she cared for Dina and threw it all away for revenge. that would have been more impactful than the manipulative story line of trying to make Abby the better person when she is in fact the worst. She takes pleasure on pain, Ellie got traumatized. I'm honestly disappointed.… Expand

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
