This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. All around this game was just hard to get through... the writing is something you'd see in some Netflix zombie series, the gameplay has some good improvements but over 25+ hours it gets extremely monotonous and predictable. The characters are so poorly developed and feel extremely forced, for example Dina and Ellie find a weed farm and decide to have sex all while Joel is about to be tortured (and that's not the only sex scene) they are extremely out of place and just cringy honestly. The developers completely forgot what made the first game so great and that was the dynamic between an extremely closed off man who's lost everything, and the girl that was essentially his second chance. They had some of the right ideas for tlou2 but it was executed completely wrong. I don't recommend spending the $80 for how unsatisfying and generally upsetting the game is in the end. If this is the direction they want to go with writing then movies would be the better move, a game is meant to satisfy the person playing regardless of the end being sad, it felt like while I was playing everything I was forced to do was out of spite.

Which is actually surprising as Naughty Dog is usually the developer with best stories. They created a wonderful story in the Part I. They developed Joel and Ellie characters bit by bit. And what did they do in the Part II? They immediately killed one of the beloved characters, they force you to play for the killer of that character - Abby. We forced to play as Abby without any knowledge about her and, honestly, her character development is by any means weak. In the end I left with the feeling that they wanted to end the story with Ellie and Dina "happily ever after", but understood that they have f**ked it up and made a kind of continuation in Santa Barbara. So all in all I'm very disappointed in the story. I expected much better from Naughty Dog studio. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU2 tries so hard to be deep and thought-provoking, that it not only makes it a bad game, but also ruins much of the sentiment built after the first one. The gameplay has barely evolved since the first game, making it average but still ok. Graphics are stunning, but scenery is not as varied as in the first game, although this is mainly just due to the time scale. Maybe this would be a 5 as a standalone title, but it does need to be held up against its 7 year old predecessor and is one of the largest disappointments in recent gaming history. Expand

Execution of play mechanics for PS4 level are Ok ish, and where stuff is missing or weird, new stuff is added to make the game more immersive and real like. But then you have the bad stuff that make it so arcade... I get now why Ellie cannot climb over stuff (because another character can do that)... This game reminds me of GTA San Andreas when you would look to the right, to the left, before crossing the street and boom a car shows up out of nowhere. Same here, stuff just show up cuz why not... very realistic :)) Also reloading is bad... like on CS GO... walking sometimes feels like on FIFA when the character is not related to the ground it sits. The added new mechanics are awesome, and I love how Ellie can fall and still shoot. that is cool and badass at the same time.

Effects: 9/10 -> I felt the adrenaline with the introduction of several elements to let you know what happens around you. Also the mood of the game, colours, special effects are top-notch. Flares are so awesome, wow! Also, the water looks good, and when is a storm outside be it in the forest, city or water, man you almost feel the fear of something falling on you. Good job there!

Story: 1/10 -> never played a game I hated the story so much.

Put a kid to kill everyone, and I mean everyone. Then people who should be more responsible choose to put themselves in risk for nothing... Then have a kid kill out of ... promise? Is this The Last of Us? Let's kill a bunch of humans, kids, dogs, pregnant women, mothers, fathers, patrol people etc.

The only things you kill less are zombies and clickers -> you can outrun them so... the same amp to kill women and pregnant kids that are not infected cuz this is the vision of ND.

The story is poorly driven, you have to make stuff for no f' reason and most times you would say: Joel would not want that, Joel would not do that, WTF Ellie why would you do that, ND why you force me to do that.

And then the second part comes in and you question is WHAT?
After you take a pause and maybe get back to the game or sell it ar Micromania (store in France related to games), or just continue because maybe the 5 stars are worth it in the end.

Well, surprise surprise, ND decided to use bad publicity, as publicity. So no... the end of Part 2 is just sad... very sad. Ellie became a character that should just die and be at peace. Just like Joel. No more suffering, no more innocent people to die because of her.
And the other characters -> instead of searching for the rainbows, make the rainbow...

Remember hot the Hobbit was a very bad movie compared to The Lord of the Rings?
Remember how the movie feels too long or too much?

This is part 2, also too long, also done by the same team, also disappointing.
But unlike the hobbit, this one costs 59,99 euro and you are forced to play like you don't want to, make choices that you, or the Ellie from part 1 would not make.

So yeah, wanna get pissed of you lost hours? try the game.

This game is a 10/10 un graphics, music and most mechanics, but the story is a 0/10 showing no respect to the first game and killing all the fathers in the game for the lesbian story to make sense. The game is full of annoying bugs and the jumping mechanics are useless and poorly developed. I've played the game in survivor difficulty and the NPC's are completly dumb. After killing Joel in the first 2 hours of the game, and then killing jesee,(the new father introduced un this game) ND make you play as Abby. The killer.
And they expect u to forgive her after what she did. If that didn't make you feel sick when u heard It, there's more, after two failed attempts of revenge, where Abby forgave Ellie's life, Ellie leaves Dina and goes after Abby. After a well developed fight, Ellie is about to kill Abby but then she remembers Joel and decides that after 25 hours of Game wanting to kill her and avenge his fallen dad, revenge is no longer an option, so she lets her live. The game ends with a dialog between Ellie and Joel one day before Joel was murdered by Abby wich ends with Joel saying:"yep" that i
Was the last Word that Joel said to Ellie before his death.

The world is amazingly built, the graphics, animations, sound and atmosphere had me surprised the PS4 could even run it so all credit to the artists and programmers involved. However, there’s been several years of time for story development just to support an unwarranted personal strike from the director at the fan base...and watching the retreat into the sycophantic bubbles of denial and even arrogance on social media has been like watching a sad performance of self-flagellation...taking a piece of art and using destruction like some kind of twisted example you have a bigger heart for the story. Ironically, if we are to be lectured of the subjectivity of violence, hatred or love, and our actions as individuals being the real problem in the world (post-apocalyptic or not) then we’ve learned it not from the game but from it’s creation and aftermath. When I saw the trailers for this game, I thought we were getting another Joel and Ellie bond adventure, but what we got was totally different. So far Naughty Dog had never let me down and trust me I wanted this to be good too. Even if it probably wouldn't be as good as the first game, I was hoping I'd still love it. I did see the leaks and I wasn't sold on the story, I was always afraid for Joel since they announced the game, but I was hoping they wouldn't go that predictable route and if it had to happen it would have been done in a way the character deserved.

Now I already knew Joel's death was gonna be brutal, I knew Abby's motive, I knew we had to play as Abby, I knew we were had to fight Ellie. In spite of knowing this, I still had this hope, that they would do it in a way that would be good.

After I started playing it I hated to find out Joel was being killed so early on in the game, it feels so rushed, like they couldn't wait to get rid of him. They made him fall for a trap which isn't like him, made him die at the hands of a group of cowards who were all in favor of Abby torturing him in a disgusting way, and even have someone spit on him... I felt angry like they wanted, but more at ND for choosing this path than anything else. The next part is the part I did enjoy, there are amazing details in the game, and some very suspenseful moments, jump scares. All good, until, you have to switch to Abby.
A very unlikeable character which they try to make you sympathize with, her dad saves a zebra, what a good guy right? Then he rationalizes killing a child, without her given consent, for an experiment to maybe make a vaccine. A vaccine that is very overrated cause if a bloater gets you, a clicker rips out your throat, or a runner smashes your brains in, what good did the vaccination do?
Abby said if it was her she would want him to do the operation, but her dad never said he would, because a real loving father wouldn't kill his precious daughter, he would take her and run, and you know it.
Like Joel did with Ellie. So he went to get Ellie and Abby's dad threatened him, he got shot and died. Just like almost all of the fireflies, yet Abby seems to somehow know a guy named Joel Miller did it, hunts him down for years with a group who, again, apparently agree Joel deserves the most horrific death... This whole plot is ridiculous and poorly written.

Not only do I not agree with Abby and I don't feel bad for her cause I already know what she did, it's bad writing to have her do something so disgusting to our favourite character and afterwards try to get me to sympathize. Not gonna happen, especially with a very short flashback. Then we are stuck playing as her for hours, she is so unlikable, they try to convince you how good she is by saving Lev and Yara. She even betrays and kills her own people, people she knew! For these 2 kids she just met. How is that not "worse" then what Joel did? He travelled the country with Ellie and built a relationship with her, he killed people he didn't know to save her. it's just so hypocritical to me.

After all that mess you have to fight Ellie, It felt awful, I didn't want to do it, I only hated Abby more.
Ellie is left with PTSD and goes after Abby once again, but not before you have to go back to playing that horrible character once more.
After all the trouble she goes through, and losing 2 fingers, out of nowhere Ellie decides to not go through with it. it makes absolutely no sense to me that she would go all this way and for some reason can forgive Abby for what she did out of hate to someond she dearly loved, even tho she couldn't forgive Joel for something he did out of love.

I get that Ellie felt conflicted, that she felt bad about resenting Joel, being cold to him, because of how much it hurt when she lost him and saw him like that. I get that she probably was angry at herself aswell... but it doesn't take away how empty the ending is. She has no one left, everything good in her life is ruined, destroyed. She can't even play guitar anymore, her last connection to Joel, and leaves behind his guitar. This game was designed to make you feel horrible, which is not why I play games...

Not to mention that Joel & Ellie = The heart of The Last of Us, it's what made the first game amazing. How the wounded man learned to love again, even tho he didn't want to, he didn't want to open up, he didn't want to get attached to Ellie, it was too painful for him because of what he lost and she reminded him of that. But she melted his heart, and Ellie found something in Joel she never seemed to have had before.

The trailers also made us think that Joel was gonna be alot more involved in the game, by flat out lying and tricking us with using an older image of Joel in scenes that turned out to just be flashbacks of Joel before the events in this game take place, and it was all on purpose just to deceive and make the player feel bad.
Sadly, you officially, and massively, disappointed me and other fans, for the first time...

The trailers are SO misleading! It shows more of Joel and Ellie’s relationship through this so called “journey” than the ACTUAL game itself. They mistreat Ellie and Joel so badly to the point where it’s not even a sequel anymore to the first game which was mainly based on their relationship as father and daughter. Not to mention that the new characters each have a political background. It’s like the directors wanted to shoved their messages in your face and that’s not even surprising to me anymore because I just realized that one of the directors of the game is a FEMINIST! Yes, a feminist. Neil Druckmann is actually the main director of the game and he has been caught for liking and retweeting SJW fanarts of the Uncharted Series even though there was no LGBTQ character in that game. I don’t mean to be a homophobic, I’m actually loving the fact that Ellie was lesbian because it’s very rare to see a main character whose in the LGBTQ community. But you don’t have to push your agenda to the point where it is so damn obvious + disrespecting the main characters. The whole entire game is so SAD and violent to the point where I had to stop watching a stream because it’s just hard to imagine that this was the game that you’ve waited years for. In my opinion, this game is great! From the gameplay to the graphics to the story, every aspect of this game is phenomenal. To say the story is bad, is to say the original was too. Please go into this with an open mind.
    Graphics 5/5 - best I’ve ever seen
Soundtrack 4/5 - good, but not the best!
Gameplay 4/5 - insanely fun at times and very enjoyable
Story 5/5 - never seen anything like it. Insanely brave and conceptual

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review does not come from a game critic, rather from a hardcore fan of both videogames and the experiences that Naughty Dog has provided.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that this game could have been so much more if just a little more thought was put into the story, maybe even some consideration for the fans that created the opportunity for a sequel in the first place. It is flabbergasting to see such a contrast in storytelling when comparing this mess to Uncharted or any other similar game.

The problem is not the death of Joel, rather the poor handling of it. The audience knows very well that Joel is not the hero of this story, however the direction this game took is contradictory at its base. Everyone who played the first game is supposed to care about the relationship between Joel and Ellie, so much so that it seemed fine for Joel to commit such a horrible act at the end of the first game. Therefore it seems astronomically idiotic to go on a opposite direction in the sequel. Introducing a character in such a way as Abby and then forcing the audience to play as her for half a game in order to justify her actions is meaningless. This is because there is not enough emotional investment or care (for a lack of better words) to incentivize sympathy. This second part of the game seems more like a slap to the face than anything simply because the first game was such a compelling story.

The gameplay is superb and immaculate details in the enviroment give this game much needed life. It is obvious to see the dedication that those departments had for the game; yet that also just shows how much better the game could have been with a more thoughful story. It is also quite ironic due to how both gameplay and story just needed to be built upon from the first game and yet one department succeeds and the other fails so hard at it.

On a basic level, this game provided an experience that no one wanted or liked (when I say no one, I mean the fans that gave so much praise to the first game).

I believe little changes in the story, that still kept it in the same direction, would have saved this disaster from happening. Something as small as killing Tommy instead of Joel at the start (making Joel and Ellie look for revenge, that inevitably causes the death of Joel at the half-way mark of the game) would have been so much better.

I do have to say that in a way they did a good job, because the entire audience feels the same anger that Ellie felt.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game had great mechanics and it looked amazing. I can see what they were going for with the story but the order of events really bothered me. They both shortened and dragged the game out in certain aspects. I didn’t believe Dina’s feelings for Ellie until after she had left Ellie when I saw the flashback at the party.

Also I never trusty understood the dynamic between Owen, Mel, and Abby. Abby’s character had good intentions but I wanted to see her get tortured at the end by the men who had captured her because it would say to the player, “Is this what you wanted?” Also between the time we kill Abby’s friends and we learn who they are, I had already forgotten their faces and how Ellie killed them. And we would feel bad because we know Ellie is tracking her. I also would have liked if Ellie saw Abby and had a moment of Joel in her. “Would you like to come back with me?” Ellie should have felt something. I wanted her to learn that revenge is a hate filled emotion and yes, Abby got hers but Ellie had a family and she could move on.

Right now, I don’t care what happened to Abby and Lev and I no longer care about what Ellie will do. As far as I’m concerned she probably killed herself due to her ptsd and lack of support system. Overall it’s not a bad game, but the first game changed video games for me. This was not close to the level of the first game.

The first game, where we see a family love and the hope of starting over in the chaos of a post-apocalyptic world, is completely destroyed in part 2, becoming a class of "revenge is bad" with a sad and empty ending .

It is a visually and sonically beautiful game, it does not have innovative mechanics compared to the first and with a lot of potential wasted in history

I guess if you have enough influence and the ability to make any developer/producer look negatively through the media if they are not open to marginalized groups of people then you can do anything. Thanks for forcing some kind of strong women/Trans friendly story though a franchise that they knew would sell a lot even if there agenda was injected in the game. Can't make one from scratch huh? Imagine if the leaks didn't come out how much worse this would of been. This story sacrifices the main story between Joel and Ellie for the sake of someone named Abby who no one wanted or cared to see. You have betrayed your fans for the sake of A.S. and her agenda to force her narrative into already established franchises. What game is next? You going to try to replace God of War with someone else now? Metal Gear? Who else is on the chopping block? All in all, the graphics and gameplay is great but the story is total trash dumpster fire and is all over the place. Don't expect to get what you want out of last of us 2 unless you wanted some girl to take over the story. The "girl takeover story" agenda is real. CORRECTION Most of the fans of the original game are not going to like this game. The story is slow and boring, the characters are awkward around each other, they kill off most of the good characters... Joel and Jessie and replace them with characters that no one cares about... Abby and Owen. After Abby kills Joel they try to show us her past like we give a f*ck. And the whole plot of the game, a revenge story is not even met BECAUSE ELLIE DOESN'T EVEN KILL ABBY. Also like Tyler said, Joel deserved so much better. Ellie and Joel come across a Bloater, ambush, armored truck, Joel gets impaled, David the pedo, and an army of Fireflies. To think that after all Ellie and him went through for him to die to a golf club. We might as well forget about this game because the one made seven years ago is still way better. On the bright side tho the music, graphics, and acting is really good. Expand

I could forgive the ideological brow beating like acrobatic pregnant women and hulking apocalyptic female bodybuilders if the overall storyline was handled with respect, but I don't think it was.

This is yet another example of hipster writers botching a beloved franchise by "subverting expectations" instead of telling a story. I don't think feminism ruined the game, but it didn't help.

I enjoyed the first half of the game, but the second half forces you to play as Abby, your enemy, and I literally just don't give a **** The writers are trying to make you empathize or see that everyone is human, but any functioning adult already knows this; we don't need a video game founded on violence to morally preach to us.

I put the game on very easy and was planning to power through to the end, skipping all cutscenes because I literally don't care about the characters and already killed most of them; but I was so mad I googled to see if I at least get to kill Abby at the end and found out I do not. So depressed, so let down. What a pointless story, it might be good for a child to play and learn about seeing both sides of a coin, but what parent would let their child play such a violent game? If I want to empathize with others, I'll watch a romcom, I bought this game to visit violence on my enemies in an imaginary world, not be preached to and watch them walk away, or feel their pity on me letting me walk away from them.

Even if they force me to play as my enemy (basically encourage metaphorical suicide), at least give me the choice to kill her in the end (the power of games is choice, vs movies/books). Nope. She gets to live.

Also, lots of lame forced moments where you can't control your actions. You could easily shoot your enemy, but instead it goes to a cutscene and they get the jump on you. And then you chase them but they are invulnerable. All in a game where as soon as Joel turns his back, Abby shotguns his leg off.

Literally selling this game on eBay ASAP.
Literally created a metacritic account to give it a 1 because it's that bad.

Really enjoyed the story, even being a big huge fan of the original. A couple of choices were confusing but overall I was happy with the way it all wrapped up.

I liked the switch in perspective, as it let you see just how the actions of Joel in the first game actually had an effect on the game world - even though the new characters can feel a little hollow at times. It would have been nice to see the other factions get fleshed out a little more towards the latter half of the game.

By no means perfect, but I really enjoyed, and the story was interesting to say the least. Really hoping that some DLC does come though, even though it doesn't look like there will be. Would be neat to see some other POV for characters or even just where the story started for characters like Lev and Yara.

Great game the first story and excellent gameplay, in this it doesn't make sense, almost all the important characters of the first game were killed in this as if nothing, like joel or tommy, I'm not saying that they shouldn't have died but they deserved a much better and dignified ending, literally if those characters were killed like any enemy who sees the point of view in abby, but they are mythical characters and they didn't deserve that ending, let's leave that side of the deaths, ok they killed joel ire after Revenge, Ellie Mato almost half the world to avenge Joel and when he reached his goal, he did not dare to kill her, it is that he would have finally left a good message, revenge only brings loneliness and regret, but no, Ellie did not kill abby, very stupid, you kill half the world, you reach your goal and you don't want to kill it, really like the naughty dog **** Pesima Story Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This isnt easy but I feel like i need to post this to get some closure. I cant believe how disconnected the director for the game is from the fans. Did he think that his first game was a brilliant masterpiece because of his amazing innovate ideas that he could only build on in the sequel? The truth is the man just got plain lucky. Joel and Ellie were perfectly designed, cast, voiced, and just overall amazing. Somehow this game director (Druckmann) completely forgot that Joel and Ellie are the franchise. Instead of further building on perhaps the greatest duo since Jordan and Pippen, he decided to go the opposite route and try to punish you for loving the first game. Now don't get me wrong, i fully expected that eventually Joel would die because this really feels like Ellie's story, that being said he went about it in a terrible way and does the character no justice. Furthermore, he robs the audience of the Joel and Ellie dynamic which made the first game one of the greatest stories ever told. Haters and lovers of the game both agree on the same thing, the best scene in the game is the Joel and Ellie flashback at the museum. That's what we wanted and that's what we waited 7 years for. To go back into that world and somehow feel what we felt all those years ago with the first one. Instead of building on that they introduce a character that people despise and force you to play as her for half the game AND at a cliffhanger point in the story. Druckmann severely underestimated the love fans had for Joel and i believe it ended up biting him in the ass with all the controversy surrounding this game. Now i can get into the various plot holes and poor sequencing of the game but i feel as though everybody here is well aware of them already. I will cut to the ending which is so depressing. People don't play video games because they crave reality. I fire up my playstation to escape reality and not have to deal with whatever depressing subject is going on in today's world and this ending makes me want to run into the depression outside. I get what they went for at the end but they pretty much decided to kill off both characters we loved so much in the end (one physically and one mentally). To have it end on such a note and with any possible sequel coming in 7 years is a hard pill to swallow. Everything aside from the story was as good as it gets, especially the music. However The Last of Us is a Joel and Ellie game and what Druckmann ended up doing to them is what a majority of the fan base is doing to this game right now. The only redemption that's left is to do a part 3 and give the characters the proper story and send-off they deserve. Do your characters right because they put this franchise on the map. Also my final thought; if people think I'm biased because of the LGBT in the game well you can **** right off. Ellie being gay didn't feel forced or thrown in to please a crowd. Ever since we were introduced to her she was fierce and we all loved her for it. Giving her a love triangle and writing her as gay didn't feel forced or unnecessary. We love Ellie and we are all happy she found love in her life. Please Naughty Dog, go back to the drawing board and really look back at the first game and do right by the fans. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
Jugabilidad 10/10
    Musica 8/10
    Inmersion 7/10
    Graficos 9/10

The game is a 0/10 at best. A story driven game with a **** story? The gameplay is nothing impressive and the graphics are to be expected so it isnt something to boast about. I know people are entitled to their opinions but they should realize that this game is bad. No if or buts about it. I dont get why for the normies is like the second coming of Christ.

Iam a huge fan of the first game, and still consistently playing the story mode as well as the multiplayer factions nearly every night to paint a picture of my love for this game, I play it with my daughter my son and my brother so it's even a family event. So to be giving this game a 2 honestly breaks my heart to the core. I pre ordered the game like many, and didn't watch any leaks priorIam a huge fan of the first game, and still consistently playing the story mode as well as the multiplayer factions nearly every night to paint a picture of my love for this game, I play it with my daughter my son and my brother so it's even a family event. So to be giving this game a 2 honestly breaks my heart to the core. I pre ordered the game like many, and didn't watch any leaks prior to release. To cut a long story short the game looked great, but the way the story was told made me stop playing at the 15 hr mark, I don't need to go into details but by that stage I had no desire to keep playing, I was offended, upset and shocked that this is actually happening. I have since sold my ps4 as this was the final straw with having hope for video-games anymore Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
