The game is a piece of trash because you're forced to play as Abby for many hours. Why would I want to play as her when she killed Joel in the most sadistic way. She kills him with a golf club.
I liked Joel from the last game and am invested in him. So I hate Abby yet had to play as her for a long time. You play as Ellie not enough and in the ending she still doesn't even kill Abby. That is so out of character when she has killed a lot of people before. Why would she suddenly not do it?
Als, the game is basically like a movie. I want a game, not a movie. Cutscenes after cutscenes and some sort of QTE gameplay. Oh please, give me a break.
This is a bad game. Really bad pacing. You are jumping back and forth in time in flashbacks. So bad.

The layouts of fights were sometimes claustrophobic enough to induce panic, and sometimes wide and open with many options for stealth or head-on fights. I had a brief moment around 60% of the way through the game where I was feeling a bit of drag and was tempted to go read ending spoilers to see where everything was going. I'd recommend powering through if you haven't been spoiled - I'm glad I did!

    The good:
Characters: The supporting cast was charming and fun without devoting too much game time to fleshing them out. Ellie is older and is grappling with some heavy stuff, and you can't help but feel everything alongside of her. New characters are a welcome addition to the mix of motivations and interactions.
Setting: The locations are great and feel fresh, even spots that can be overused in games (subway stations, banks)

    The bad:
Timeline/series of events: Sometimes I felt a little like I was watching Westworld Season 2. Where are we? What's already happened? Non-linear timelines can be executed well, but in this case it was a bit distracting. The structure of the game was already a creative use of timelines, so adding in random flashbacks was additionally jarring.
Theme/gameplay combo: This game has a strong message about choice, but at no point did I feel I could make a meaningful impact on the story. Games that are on rails are totally fine, but I have to imagine a small decision tree could have been implemented to great effect.

Overall, great game. Suffers from a sequel's curse of not quite hitting exactly the same notes as the first game, but amazing nonetheless.

I've never felt compelled to write a review for a game, but after playing The Last of Us Part II and witnessing the drama, I feel I must share my opinion.

    Story:

The most important part of any linear, narrative-focused game. Unfortunately, it is this game's weakest part. At it's basic level, this game is a revenge story with a message that revenge is unimportant and harmful to the one seeking it. It's been done before but most stories have been; the key is how each take handles it. I do not feel that this game does anything new or unexpected with the concept, with the only twists being the lack of payoffs. There's also a disconnect between the theme of revenge and violence being bad and the majority of the gameplay. By the end, players will be accustomed and desensitized to violence, not put off by it.

Worse still, the story's message causes characters to behave illogically at various points. If characters remained true to their nature, the game would either go in a different direction or the message of "revenge is bad" would have to be dropped. As it stands, different characters jump between bloodlust and mercy, often in the same scene, and each time it makes little sense.

The worst part of the story, however, happens at about the mid-point. Having reached the climax, the game abruptly shifts and essentially begins again with the player starting at an earlier point with no upgrades or collected supplies. About half of the latter part of this game is played through in this way until arriving at the same climax as before. This is the equivalent of starting a story over and it utterly disrupts the progress. The story is not nearly abstract enough to call for this diversion and the result is a disjointed feeling of two different stories cobbled together. The natural thing would be to let the story progress from the climax and end, with the diversion appearing as an unlockable scenario to play when the first part is completed. It's not a radical idea but it makes sense and it prevents the derailment of the story's flow.

The story is an average, uninspired affair brought down by characters plagued with inconsistencies and a bizarre narrative choice.

    Gameplay:

It takes what the first game established and polishes it. The gameplay cycle of exploration and combat is the same with additions to stealth and combat mechanics. Gunplay especially feels more solid compared to the original game and melee options are also expanded upon. Exploration and puzzle solving sections also feel more robust. That said, none of the mechanics outdo games focused on one or fewer elements.

    Graphics:

This is the pinnacle feature of this game. From character models to environments to animations, the only word for them all is "gorgeous". This game takes the style of its predecessor and upgrades everything to take advantage of the more powerful hardware. There's not much more I can say about it, except that the coders, animators, and artists are the real stars of this game.

If this were end of my review I'd rate the game at five. Zero is for games that cannot function. Ten is for an immaculate product that does not exist. Despite the technical achievements, my score is dragged down by the story. That said, there are two more issues that I cannot in good faith ignore.

    1. Content Strikes and Review Embargos

I'm combining these because they both have to do with censorship. When the leaks for this game came out, Naughty Dog was completely in the right to take down any clips, images, and discussions of the spoilers. Opinions on the contents without the contents, however, were different. Naughty Dog does not own people's opinions and such a shocking example of censorship is unforgivable. In addition, preventing critics from discussing the full game's story when that story is, again, the biggest part of the experience makes for half-finished reviews that do not give consumers the full picture. I'm deducting one point from my review in response to both these points.

    2. Crunch Time

People say this is a problem with the game industry and they are right. With recent articles about Naught Dog's use of the concept, however, and looking at the beautiful graphics, I feel the crunch was especially cruel here. These employees are artists, not mules to be ground down by impossible burdens. If a game can't meet a release deadline without using sweatshop hours, push the damned release back. That goes for all game developers but I can only imagine the sacrifice Naughty Dog's employees had to endure to polish the game to this level. Until I see evidence of improvement, all of Naughty Dog's products I review will receive a penalty of one point.

    Summary:

This is a gorgeous game with adequate gameplay let down by its story and the developer's questionable actions. Whatever awards the game receives, I hope the ones to accept them are the people who gave so much to make it possible, not the man standing on top of them.

First of all the graphics in this game is topnotch wow!I had to stop once in a while just to look at the views, the snowy mountains, the falls, the flowing water, the grass, everything in this game is so crisply made and so detailed. You can clearly see the character's emotions in their faces. It's just breathtaking. The gameplay is just alright. The same with the first one with some added features like dodge and you can finally crawl now(thank god). You can also throw ropes and break windows to get to new areas which is a good addition for it can at least keep your mind running what to do next. The sound of this game is absolutely beautiful too. When I first throw a brick to break that window, the sound of a breaking glass is just so good as it shatters and hits the floor, just downright earcandy(if that even makes sense). Then comes the story that ruined it all.Naughty Dog forgot a very important thing.Majority of the fans if not all wanna buy this game because of the story, not the gameplay, not the graphics. It's what made the first one such a masterpiece.I'm not homophobic or have issues with LGBTs or having to watch a sex scene of a man and a woman whose muscles are way bigger than him(I was actually laughing the whole time while they're doing it)or whatever agenda you're trying to push.I don't care about any of that. I only care about the story which you ruined so badly and poorly written. They made Tommy and Joel complete idiots in this sequel.Tommy gave his name to a complete stranger and even invited them to resupply back at their base, worse is even Joel gave his name too to these strangers. When I first saw it I was like wait what?Is this even Joel and Tommy? It's so uncharacteristic of them to be careless and stupid like that. It's okay to change a character's fundamental trait,Squall for example being a loner, but it was shown throughout the game why he was like that and what changed him and how in the end he became more open to people. Joel and Tommy did not have that it was a straight up extreme character 360 with no explanation at all. That's just lazy story writing right there. After that the game just became an ordinary lame revenge plot which was poorly written too WTF! Abby killed someone you dearly loved and your friends, now you have a chance to give them justice and guess what? She bites off two of your fingers, then suddenly have a rush of conscience(even after killing women and dogs) then let's her go. How in the world would you even think that that's a good idea of a story? In the movie industry that could win you bajillion of awards but guess what? It's a **** videogame!!!! Expand

Every single thing about the game is masterfully executed other than the narrative and writing.
The art, programming, animation, visual effects, lighting, music, ambience, atmosphere, world building, etc. All God tier!!!
There's an amazing template here that has the potential to house really great story's.

The last of us Part 2 scores a 10 out of 10, with the most amazing graphics (foliage, water, facial expressions, the representation of a Seattle in decay...), more of the same game mechanics from part 1, new enemies and a very satisfying soundtrack.
That is... without the story and the poorly made choices the gamer has to endure.

Spoilers NOW, seriously stop reading if you haven't finished the game!

Instead of telling the story and unfolding the difficult relationship between Joel and Ellie, Naughty Dog decides it would be best to kill Joel and send Ellie on a revenge mission. Hatred, anger and stubbornness set the tone, but they aren't accompanied with character development. In fact, the choices you have to make with Ellie (several times) are utmost illogical. After completing the game you're left with a bitter aftertaste.
And if that isn't enough, you are forced as a gamer to play +-/ 15 hours with the murderer of Joel, trying to kill Tommy and beating Ellie and her girlfriend to a pulp. The murderer of Joel has it's own emotional story and a fair amount of reasons to take revenge on Joel/Ellie, but still... ... being forced to play with this character and having to make choices I didn't want to make, left me several times in a state where I didn't want to play anymore (and most of us looked forward to playing the game for 7 years).

The are 2 emotional flashbacks where you play as Joel and Ellie again, leaving you frustrated, bittered and even upset, knowing that, with the chemistry between those two, this could've been the best game sequel ever made!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just so disappointed :( The Last of us has, for years, been my favorite game of all time. I was so excited to continue the story. The visuals and score do a fantastic job however that’s kind of where the positives finished for me. The gameplay didn’t feel too different to the first however it did lose its charm for me much faster. I felt a lot of encounters to be repetitive. However my biggest issue has to be the direction of the story. I loved Joel, I get that he is a flawed character but literally everyone is in these worlds. But he was OUR character in the game. I I was not even mad about his death or even the manner of it. I knew that would be a powerful way to send Ellie on her revenge quest. But to force you to play as the antagonist and beat Ellie was a joke. 10 hour or so playing as the character her brutally murdered your character from the first game, playing through as the story rams down your throats “look these people are nice sand kind too in their version of events”. I understand what they were trying to do but I just couldn’t enjoy playing as Abby after what happened isn’t the opening chapter. Expand

They exceeded the last game, however the story was written and executed in the worst possible. The problem in the story wasn’t that Joel died (most people already expected that) but the way he was killed was the main problem. Killing off a beloved character from the previous game in the most disrespectful way to invoke emotion from the player is a horrible is a easy and lazily written plot, Especially by the hands of a new character who the audience does not even care for. We play roughly 10+ hours of the game playing as Abby, a ridiculously muscular woman who killed Joel in the beginning of the game. The game fails to get the audience to sympathize with Abby even after revealing her past and her motivations for killing Joe Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU2 is a perfect example of an overly cocky studio trying to be woke.

I at first thought their take on violence was very intuitive and new,but after completing the game I have to say that in theory it is great but poor in execution.

Because of their grueling take on violence the entire game is just grey and dark and frankly not fun to play.

The first game was the same but what drove you and gave you hope was the father daughter relationship of Joel and Ellie.

That very relationship that drove and was the silver lining midst the horrible world of The Last of Us,was stripped away from us in the first two hours of the game.

The real problem was the way they did it.

Spitting on Joel´s corpse just seemed like Naughty dog were angry at the character and just wanted him gone.

Then even worse you NEED to spend at least 10 hours playing as Abby,Joel`s murderer.

You are supposed to understand and sympathize with her because Joel was the "real" monster.

She killed him after he saved her.

Not to mention how stupid they made Joel and Tommy,in the first game they were both super cautious and could spot an ambush from a mile away, and now when they are older and wiser they just gave out their real names to complete strangers.

Throughout the game Ellie kills every person that was in the room when Joel was killed EXCEPT THE ACTUAL PERSON THAT DID THE KILLING.

The writing is sloppy at best, character motives are non existent and it is JUST A BAD STORY.

Now the game play is great, the music, the level building the graphics all beautiful.

Most journalists are trying to pin the hate of this game to gamers being ant-trans or anti-LGBTQ when that could not be further from the truth.

Look at The Last Of Us:Left behind DLC or at Life is Strange.

Fans simply feel betrayed, the thing that made the first game so good, destroyed in the first two hours of the game.

RIP The Last Of Us,you deserved better.

The gameplay itself is fun, if not a bit repetitive, and the same as the first game. The sections with infected that feel like a survival horror game are easily the highlight of the game, which creates legitimate tension while you are trying to sneak around or fight your way out. Sadly, the main draw of this game is where it falls the most flat, the story. For me, it came to a screeching halt at about the mid-point of the game. Building Abby up to be so objectively evil in the eyes of the player and Ellie, and then expecting the player to play as Abby for 10+ hours in some bizarre attempt to make us sympathize with her just did not work. By the time that switch was made, I had been looking forward to getting my revenge SO much that once I realized she had her own skill tree (meaning I would be playing as her for a while), I stopped playing for 3 days. It had killed all the momentum that the game had at that point, and forcing a “reset” mid-game just made me feel like all I had done so far was for nothing. And anyone who knows how the game ends will know, this game exists for nothing. There’s no story payoffs, no shift in the world after everything happens, it was for nothing. Main characters get killed and then never mentioned again, or grieved for. I feel like if this game was shorter, and more focused, the story had potential to be good. But as it is, it feels like a story that just drags on for the sake of stretching things out, like they had some arbitrary number of hours they wanted it to be, and that they filled it with uninteresting and repetitive story beats to try and draw parallels between the 2 playable characters, but without making one of them likable or interesting enough for me to be invested in her story; forcing me to slog through it to finish the game out of an obligation to see the ending, because of my love of the first game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is an incredibly harrowing but beautiful and well-crafted masterpiece.
At first glance, you are absolutely not in doubt that this is another striking piece from Naughty Dog.

They have truly mastered their craft and once again delivered an incredibly beautiful game.
The graphics are some of the most impressive I have ever seen, and I still can't believe that this is able to run on a regular PS4. Playing on the Pro with a 4K HDR TV just makes it more incredible, so if you're fortunate enough to own a Pro and a 4K TV, this is really a feast for your eyes.
The gameplay mechanics are a huge upgrade from the first games with several new cool features and animations that makes your jaw drop to the floor. It's fun and engaging and just like the first game, it feels grounded and realistic, particularly due to the realistic violence and gore. Bashing an enemy with a pipe or any other melee weapon feels almost uncomfortable. You feel every blow and the aftermath is gruesome. Guns are loud and heavy and each shot feels deadly.
The AI is also a huge improvement from the somewhat buggy and "dumb" AI from the first game. They are much more intelligent and unpredictable.
I shot a WLF member two times and she dropped to the ground, screaming in agony from the gunshot wound I had inflicted. It felt so real and it felt terrible as another WLF member yelled "Ashley!" as he ran towards her. I didn't just kill a random enemy NPC. I killed his friend, Ashley.
Another WLF was walking with his dog. I shot him with a silenced pistol and he immediately fell to the ground. Dead. His dog noticed immediately and started going in circles around him, whimpering and not wanting to leave his side. I felt terrible, but in another scenario, that dog would've tried to chew me to pieces had I been spotted. The first game was brutal, but in Part II, you really feel the weight of the violence and the consequences of your actions.

Where Naughty Dog truly excels with this game is with the incredibly bold and intense story and narrative. The first game was a masterpiece and deserved all the praise it got. I still consider it my favorite game of all time, and with Part II it just adds so much more to the first game. Sadly, many people have very mixed opinions about the sequel, and the user reviews here tells you the same story. It's not a game for everyone but I don't understand the ridiculous amount of hate that this game has gotten.

The story of Part II continues where we left off in Part I and tells an incredibly harrowing and engaging story that leaves you feeling uncomfortable and stressed during the majority of the game. It's NOT a fun game and I never expected it to be either.

There is so much more depth to the characters and they feel just as real as in the first game. The new characters are interesting and well-written and there are so many twists that leaves you completely speechless.

This story is incredibly divisive and ambiguous and while there are certain things I definitely wasn't onboard with regarding this story, I can definitely appreciate the storytelling and why things had to happen the way they did. You need to have an open mind in order to fully grasp and appreciate this story. It's not an easy story and many people aren't onboard with the things that happens, but it's truly done in a way that respects the characters and their journey and adds so much more depth to the first game.

I have a massive amount of respect for Naughty Dog to create such an ambitious game and they really nailed it with Part II with just about everything. No matter what other people say about this game, you really HAVE to experience it on your own. Make up your own mind and don't trust the user reviews here. To quote Neil Druckmann: This is a video game. You have to play it.

I really want to write this after I re-watched many cut-scenes from the first TLOU, and it feels like the sequel is nowhere near as good as the first one.
First I’m gonna about the first TLOU. You get to see Joel and Ellie strengthening their bond while crossing the whole country through many cities, towns, fighting against many different enemies in different environments throughout four seasons in a year. We get to see a bad-ass Joel, who is a perfect Father Figure and Ellie - a playful but fearsome 14-yo girl, and seeing them together talking and helping each other out is something I’ve never seen in any forms of entertainment. The ending was so good that I never thought there would be a sequel. BUT LET’S GET REAL HERE... the sequel is just a mess.
In TLOU part 2. It can be seen that the basics stayed almost the same. The graphic is enormously improved and the environment is much more richer and more realistic. Gameplay is improved and songs are excellent - they made mighty impacts on players’ feelings and emotions. But what disappointing was the storytelling. Everything should be connected together from the previous part in a logical and sensible way, but they just use the fact that Joel killed a significantly unimportant surgeon to try to save Ellie, just to make TLOU 2 happened seems really fanfic. Character development is poor and insignificant, like besides from Ellie and Joel, I hardly get a feeling for any characters else. Playing as Ellie doesn’t have the same vibe as the first part when she pretty much just mumbles around being sad because Naughty Dogs’ stupid storytelling (Don’t get me wrong, she’s still awesome and all). Environmental puzzles just disappears, and instead you just follow the route and that’s it. This is spoil-free but half of the game you just play as someone who’s NOT Ellie and it’s pointless. Even up until the end, all I did was watching Joel and Ellie cut-scenes.
My expectation was to see Joel and Ellie rolling again together, but instead ND just punches us hard in the face from the beginning and tries to relief us in the second useless half of the game. When you get to the point when you play as an another character, you’ll be missing playing Ellie so hard.
I love TLOU, I love seeing Joel and Ellie together. I mean this review is a mess already, just like TLOU 2.
IF YOU’RE UP TO THE GAMEPLAY, GO AHEAD AND PLAY. But if you really care about the relationship between Joel and Ellie, or what was good about the first TLOU, keep yourself away from the game, you can listen to Ellie and Joel singing, but don’t play the game.
UPDATE: JUST FINISHED THE GAME, AND IT’S A MESS. RATED FROM 6 TO 2

    Pros:
    -Great graphics.
-Great Gameplay, much like the last game.
    -Music is good.

    Cons:
-The story is awful! The story is forced and contorted in a way that makes it incompatible with the first game.

-Character characteristics have devolved into personalities unlike the last game. It's almost like writers didn't even play the last game.

-They kill the most loved main character near the beginning and in the most ridiculous and uncharacteristic way.

-Inflrmation given from articles and interviews prior to release completely lied about the contents of the game, probably because the writer knew there would be push back.

-You have to kill dogs. They even go as far as letting you play with the dog (as another character)before they make you kill it while playing as Ellie.

-At times, it seems like they are trying to make you dislike Ellie, and make you like this added charater even though she kills Joel.

I can't give the game a zero because there are elements of the game that are awesome. But I have to rate it with a one, because I waited 7 years for a game with a story that is unrecognizable from the last. If I was a teacher, I would have to give an F for not following the directions, but partial credit for trying. You made a small part of us die a little on the inside, Neil Druckman.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay mechanics- Smooth but straight out of 2013 with the exception of adding a jump action which is honestly pointless and going prone which I did enjoy.

Graphics- Absolutely beautiful the best probably I’ve ever seen on any game but honestly from a AAA company that is to be expected. Graphics do nothing but get improved for games of this standard.

Story- How in the world can you take two beloved characters and completely spit on them. They were villainized the whole game for their actions. But on the other hand we’re supposed to feel sympathy for the other main character who brutally murders one of the first beloved characters in front of the other beloved character in the waking moments of the game. The way I see it when you play as Ellie you are forced to commit very gruesome morally corrupt actions she tries to refrain from until she has to defend her self. They try to make you feel bad for killing NPC’s with names but if you go and try to play stealthily add get caught they will murder you on the spot. We are supposed to love this new character, but here is my problem with that when Ellie murders a pregnant woman in complete self-defense without knowing she was pregnant has a panic attack and vomits immediately. Abby gets the chance to murder a pregnant woman and literally is about to enjoy it for revenge until her new little best friend stops her whom she used to murder for sport. I just feel like the whole revenge plot for Ellie is revenge is bad but on the other hand for Abby it’s just dust in the wind she can get revenge and it’s no problem because she is entitled to it. To me I feel like a couple years ago they had a whole different plan for this game but suddenly decided to change it up and rushed it. I could keep writing and making random points but honestly the sequel doesn’t deserve it. At the end of the day myself as a fan is very crushed, I waited seven years after playing that first beautiful game to get this terrible sequel. It is just sad they did my favorite characters in a game so dirty and they did me dirty. You Dirty Naughty Dog.

To wrap it up I ask what is the point of a mechanically beautiful and graphically gorgeous game if the story is going to be so shallow and a complete 180 of what the first one stood for. What I wanted was to see where the story kept going for the two characters I loved. Now I just wish I never bought this second game what a disappointment. All I can do now is try and forget I ever played it.

I played the original TLOU back in 2015 or so, and I've been excited for the sequel for years. We pre-ordered it, and I don't think I've ever been so excited for a game in my life. The 2018 E3 presentation had me elated. I'm a lesbian, and Ellie felt like such a relatable character and in such a huge franchise, it just felt like this amazing gift.

Now that I've finished it, I'm so disappointed that I almost want to cry. I'm sure I will later.

I'll keep this spoiler free. This is a 10/10 game in a lot of ways. I am blown away by basically every aspect of this game aside from a couple of things. But one of them is so important to me that I had to take off so many points from the total score.

The first one I'll warn people about is that this is kind of a horror game at times, in ways that the first one was not. It's scary, stressful, and it took a huge toll on me both emotionally and even physically. (I had an upset stomach for several days and had to take a break after a particularly scary sequence.) This game is also a lot darker in general than the original. Actually both in terms of available light (tons of flashlight use here where it would otherwise be pitch black; this gave me a headache a couple of times and I had to take a break,) and thematically. I'm sensitive. Your milage may vary! I wouldn't take any points off for this alone.

And now for the big disappointment: this wasn't the game I was expecting. It wasn't the game that I wanted. I wish they had used those phenomenal resources on a different story. What I was looking so forward to was a game about Ellie. Some kind of adventure that she goes on, twists and turns, grows as a person--just typical good story things. A revenge plot could have been fine, but I wanted a character focused game. Instead, this is a game about "the cycle of violence." The characters/plot were a vehicle to tell a story about the cycle of violence. This game is extremely violent. It's stressful. A lot of the time it's grueling. A lot of the time it felt like it was trying to teach me a lesson (that I'm not sure I needed to be taught.) It made me do all kinds of things that I didn't want to do. I thought it would be worth it to see the story through, but I'm not sure that it was. :( To me, the ending was not satisfying. I'm not even sure I like Ellie anymore. It all feels kind of pointless. Maybe that's making a good point about violence and revenge. But does that make for a fun game and a satisfying adventure story?

Anyway, I do want to keep it spoiler free so there's a lot I can't say, but just know that if you loved the first game and are looking for a sequel that feels similar to that game... you might be disappointed. I almost feel like this game would be better for people who have not already played the first game. It's hard for me to judge the quality of this game because I'm just so disappointed. I spent $80 to get headaches, stomach aches, stress, and see one of my favorite video game characters of all time get sort of ruined.

This really hurts to say, but the main issue i have with this game is that the story feels like a first draft and the narratives are rushed in many ways, such as ---'s death, Abby's perspective and the constant back-and-forth of the story (along with a disappointingly linear game with potential).

i loved the last of us 1 and completed it start to finish the day before i got this game

i loved the last of us 1 and completed it start to finish the day before i got this game (as well as completing it 3 other times). So i can confidently say that whilst the graphics, game play, ai and environments are 10/10, the story is weak and rips you away from your favorite characters yet fails to treat new characters well enough like Abby or Jesse.

A lot of the problems is with how Abby's narrative was portrayed, we are given very little time to sympathies with her, especially with the fact that Joel actually saves her life and Ellie begs for his life. So when the game forces the player to play as her for half the game and rip you away from an Ellie revenge story it feels disappointing to the trailer expectations and hype.

About 2 hours into the game (without seeing the leaks or many trailers to go in blind) i thought the game was going to go for an open-world survival horror story, where the player can hunt down each of the people responsible to find Abby, whilst infected and WLFs exist in an open world that Ellie needs to traverse to find supplies and the targets. Sounds cool? yea i wish the game continued this way but it dosnt...

...the game unfortunately gets linear again after about 50 mins of a fantastic open world area where the player can go where they want, get supplies, find treasures/clues/puzzles, be attacked completely out the blue by enemies (like one time at a workbench which was crazy cool), but then this ends and its back to being linear.

this is where the story fails, as when many of targets are killed, i simply don't remember or recognize who they are, the initial act of the game is rushed and you wont remember who the people are whom Ellie kills until they are dead. Even characters like Ellie are treated like Dina's rebound and Tommy is gone except for probably 6 minutes of screen time.

To conclude, i am very disappointed after 7 years and probably unlimited funds from Sony that they made a weak story line (that was very predictable in areas) and a surprisingly linear game.

There is a reason why 'The Last of Us' does not have Part 1 in its title, it was a concluded story with Ellie's acceptance of Joel's lie. A bittersweet ending that did not need a brutal ending for characters and a first draft story with so many back and forths.

And that's how I felt in the beginning too. When I got to the part where they killed Joel off, I wanted to smash my new TLOU2 themed controller. Turned off my console immediatly as I was pissed off as to why they would kill off one of the best characters so unceremoniously. I also kept thinking that walking into a trap like that was totally out of character for Joel.
But then I turned my PS4Pro back on, and started to play from there. By the time I got to Abby's part, I was like don't **** make me play as this **** Then I spent another 12 or so hours as Abby and got to know Yara and Levi. My point of view shifted from black and white to grey, as it does most of the time in real life too when I judge something too quick.
By the time I was approaching the end I started to sneak way more around entire enemies and avoid all the meaningless killings, as I had enough of that. And surely, by the time I finally reached the beach, and confronted a worn down Abby, as I was pressing square everytime it came up, I kept thinking, give us a choice damn it, don't make us kill anymore people in this game. This is what this game does to you. I came around full circle. It truly is one of the best games of this generation, be it story-wise or gameplay wise.

Sony and Naughty Dog have made every effort to politicize this game to create the false controversy to force a certain group of individuals to defend their lack-luster game. Don't be a fool, avoid this game.

I do enjoy my time with those friends who are LGBTs, they are really important part of my life. So I will score 0 to this game just because of unreasonable story rather than you so called " prejudice and discrimination to LGBT" blah blah blah.

Too disappointing, the only good thing about the game is its music, it **** up the story and they force you to hurt a character you don't want, even making it playable, they focused on the "politically correct" and spoiled a wonderful game.

I have contacted the VP of Naughty Dog Neil Druckmann on multiple platforms requesting at least a partial refund, as this was not good enough for $80. One point for the very up to date graphics however.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don’t understand it. I was so excited for this ever since they announced it. I watched all the trailers multiple times. Preordered it and played it the second it came out. The biggest letdown of my long video game history. I mean, in what universe would you ever sympathise with Abby. I guess if you’ve never played the first game you don’t have the emotional connection to Joel and it may be easier, but TLOU1 is my favourite game of all time, and I bet even if it isn’t for others they still see that game as a top 5 or 10. So naturally, Joel is one of my favourite characters of all time.

So when Joel was crippled, tortured and beaten to death by this woman, I am surely not the only one who wanted this woman to suffer equally as bad. I mean seriously, she kills him because he killed her dad, but her dad’s death was so much quicker and cleaner in comparison, and killing Joel in the way he was is in NO WAY an equivalent to this. In fact it made me want to kill her more. And ND expects us to SYMPATHISE with this psychopath?? She is UNLIKEABLE no matter how many ‘jokes’ she cracks, IRREDEEMABLE for not just what she did but HOW she did it, and her story feels so drawn out. There are some good set pieces in Abby’s segments, but I had no motivation to keep her alive and I hate this character, and so all these events lost any impact: I felt nothing. I just wanted it to be over. I got especially angry at the bit where you literally have to go against Ellie and beat the hell out of her. Who would want to do that, SERIOUSLY. Who. I would rather watch two cats fight to the death than hurt such a beloved character of the franchise. I hated every second of it. And the ending is so stupid I don’t even want to talk about it. I’ll just say this - I stood up from my chair, screamed at the tv and I couldn’t get it out my head - this wishy-washy ending would never happen, and it renders the entire game pointless. To create such a horrible character and to not see them meet the justice they deserve beats the point of the whole ‘Ellie gets revenge’ thing and all the death and destruction that happens throughout is rendered pointless. Only reason I don’t give it a 0 is because the gameplay mechanics, graphics and soundtrack are nice, and the superhero cards are pretty cool, but apart from those things the story is such a massive letdown and leaves this franchise on such a bitter and disappointing note.

The Last of Us Part II is the most gorgeous looking game I have ever played, and I would slow down in a lot of parts just to admire the beauty of everything. With that being said, the story is very disappointing and not reflective of the characters' personalities that we came to know in the first game. I understand that the game is trying to get you to relate with Abby by showing how hard her life was too, but you cant just kill off Joel in the beginning and then expect us to feel any remorse for Abby. It was a bit sad seeing how horrible Abby's life was getting, and i would've felt bad for her but she killed Joel, and that is unforgivable. I also think it was a chore to get through the second half of the game because you're forced to play as the antagonist, which was a real pain. I would also like to know what happens to Dina, instead of leaving off with Ellie walking away and not ending the story on a god note. Naughty Dog severely underestimated how much the fans loved Joel and that took a toll on our enjoyment of the game. Expand

And then finally once were back as ellie and spend our entire time upgrading, collecting cards, and getting through the wolves, you spit in our faces again by making us play as Abby AGAIN after killing Jesse for 8 **** hours and then fight ellie as a BOSS and kick her ass? Not worth finishing, ive heard the ending is super bad too. You dropped the ball to me a statement. I hope youre happy with what you've done to this series. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This “heartwarming” story of forgiveness is ruined by the fact that Joel made the right decision when he saved Ellie from the Fireflies. The cure never would’ve worked because A. It’s a fungal infection and no one IRL has developed a vaccine for a fungal infection (watch Game Theory’s video) B. Ellie was one of a good few immune people who the Fireflies previously failed to extract a vaccine from and C. Once a vaccine is made, then how do they apply it to save the world? They can’t vaccinate everyone and a vaccine doesn’t cure someone who is already infected. Not to mention the other factions of people who may try to steal the vaccine for themselves and ruin it all. There’s too many possibilities that would make Ellie’s death be for nothing so Joel made the right choice in saving her. So how in any way did he deserve to be killed by Abby?

Abby, even by the end of the story, never became redeemable or in other words someone who deserved to be spared and forgiven. Let’s not forget that Abby was the only one who got her revenge and she ENJOYED it, continuing to be a cruel, evil person. When Abby is told Dina is pregnant, she says “good” and almost slits her throat. Compare that to Ellie, who after killing Mel (another pregnant woman) has a huge meltdown of guilt that causes her to be willing to go home until Abby shows up again and kills Jesse. Joel SAVED ABBYS LIFE in an act of trust and compassion and he gets punished by being brutally tortured and killed. Ellie ends up alone with no one left, and loses two fingers so she can’t play guitar anymore, which was a personal connection to Joel.

So, what’s the message of this story? Abby gets the best ending out of all the characters. Abby, the one who got her revenge. So is revenge good? That’s a horrible message and I don’t see why anyone praises this game for having a compelling, thought-provoking message. The only message I got was that revenge and cruelty is good because you get on top of everyone else.

The Last Of Us 1 is my favorite story of all time. I based a lot of my childhood off of it. I used to play WoW, and TLOU influenced me so much I became a survival hunter in order to be like Joel. So it’s really insulting to me when some person tells me that I “just don’t understand the deep message”. TLOU’s world may be one of only a few stories that I have a truly deep connection with, and TLOU 2 does not match up to it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am giving this game a 0 because of the lies told by Naughty Dog. This company manipulated their fan base and lied in order to sell copies of their game. They altered trailers to trick us into thinking we we’re going to be playing alongside Joel throughout the game, making him look younger. I understand that companies sometimes have trailers that are misleading but not outright lie to their fan base about you playing a character that actually dies in the first three hours of the game. Neil Druckmann also lied to us saying that Ellie will be the only playable character when in fact 50% of the game you are playing Abby. We don’t care that you kill off a beloved character, we care HOW you do it. Unfortunately, Neil got too into his head thinking he could do no wrong that he drove his beautiful story into the ground. Gráficos muy buenos, pero hay que tener en cuenta que se trata de un juego lineal y final de generación. El rsr2 le pasa por la derecha siendo un mundo abierto.
Argumento, pues malo malo.
