I do not like certain things in life but have learned to accept them. I don’t agree with certain things in the LGBQT community but that doesn’t mean they are bad people. I absolutely loved the first game. Replayed it more times than I can count. When I first found out that Ellie was a lesbian I was a little apprehensive but I love that character regardless. I loved playing as Joel and his story and character arc. I am upset what happens to Joel but the overall story and how it plays out is tremendous in my opinion. This ranks in the top 5 for me and my tastes in gaming. Some might think that my tastes are terrible then. That’s your opinion and you are entitled to that. Thank you Naughty Dog for creating another game that I can lose myself in yet again. Expand

Still getting over the emotional rollercoaster. I loved every second of it. You just need to see past you own interest and start seeing the game for what it wants to convey. Awesome job. The fact that people got so mad made this perfectly clear. The only problem was that they were overestimating the emotional intelligence of the average male.

Aside from the story, the technical achievements of the game objectively are improvements over what was offered in Part I- gameplay mechanics, environments, visuals, sound, and acting (facial animations are insane), and enemy AI. To sum up my take on this game, I experienced a necessary, satisfying, and compelling continuation of the story provided in Part I. I cannot imagine a more fitting continuation of the story, and I recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed Part I. Expand

Review: I believed the story to be overall great. If you go into the game without knowing or hearing of the leaks, much of it would be considered to be unpredictable. It’s told in a way that really lets you understand how a character you seemingly at first despise, you can learn to understand and sympathize with and see how a story of revenger can ultimately unfold when you explore both perspectives of two different yet seemingly alike individuals. I enjoyed this games story for what it brought to the table and how it attempted to create a different story arc than what we may have originally expected. I do say a beloved character will be missed and although I hate they way they spit on this character for the sake of the narrative, I appreciate the sprinkled moments of joy found with this character that explore further some times after the events of the original game. Eventually towards the end it all comes full circle and leaves you with an empty somber feeling. This by no means is a bad thing.

In a imperfect world like much of our own, we make decisions that breed consequences.

**** happens and you find a reason to move on. Gameplay and User Interfaces: 9 / 10

Review: The gameplay is a lot of fun and vastly improves Upon the first with adding verticality with the ability to jump. I love the variety of weapons introduced and the fact that you can upgrade them through these very neatly detailed work benches. The menus are clean and very detailed with lots of customization options in terms of the game difficulty, audio and accessibility settings for those with certain disabilities.

This game takes all of its features and builds upon the originals to make vast bug improvements both appealing to the eyes and in terms of usability. Music: 9 / 10 Review: The tones and music is a great mix of the traditional Last of Us music and more modern ambient sounds and beats to build up tension and sink you further into the moment when things are going to hit the fan. Moments where you face humans are full of great audio build up as well as when you are facing infected.

I felt hyped for the upcoming battles similar to in Days Gone which is great use of music to build up the suspense and tension. Personally loved it. Environments: 8 / 10 The environments in the game varied enough to breathe different air periodically and although you had so many different settings It did feel like primarily you were in the same main environment type but that may have been due to the weather Seattle mainly being a very wet environment. The set pieces for the levels are favorites of mine. You get everything I would Have hoped for and I truly enjoyed the more horror aspects if the game. They truly took it up a notch and laid these areas out perfectly. My overall score is a 9. I feel that they truly hit all the right notes in terms of environments, gameplay, customization options, graphics, music and most importantly the story. Some improvement can be made in terms of infected enemy types, would love to see more creative ways to kill some big ones as opposed to just guns blazing. I would also like there to be more in regards to evolution of the infected. It seemed to just get brushed over in the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you really enjoyed the first game because of how beautiful the story was and the relationships in that story, and if you found yourself attached to the characters at all, you will NOT enjoy this game nearly as much, if at all. It’s almost like the COMPLETE FORGOT why the first the last of us was so successful and adored, and has such obsessive fans. If you’re playing this game without playing the first one then it will be moving and emotional and a nice rollercoaster. But if you are playing this game off of excitement after the first game you WILL be disappointed. I played the first one with my friends and family and we all continuously said we’d love to see Ellie and Joel to grow together. And they all said there favourite character and one of the only reasons they liked the first game was because of Joel and his relationship with Ellie, then to see him die at the start of the game completely ruins the idea of the game. It’s like going on call of duty and removing all guns from the game.

The good parts about the game I would say are the aesthetics are beautiful and it always looks amazing walking around this game, also the flashbacks to Joel and Ellie make us remember how good the game use to be and those moments were special, also playing as Abby actually was an interesting concept to see what she had gone through as well but then to put the player through the disgusting task of having to fight and beat Ellie is an awful idea, I don’t care what anybody says it is horrendous that we have to fight against the character we’ve always loved, that along with Joel’s death crushed the ratings so low. It’s not being special and unique in the story and the way it’s played it’s just being deluded. I hope they remake it and it was all a dream and they do a story at least some more of the Ellie and Joel action we all love and are not tired of as we’ve had to wait 7 years anyway it will be amazing to get some more of it in a nostalgic way.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unfortunately the game is a big disappointment. After 7 years of waiting we are giving a poorly written script with characters that no one actually cares about. WTH is Danny? I don't know and I don't care! Joel is killed right at the start after saving the life of his killer. The fact that Neil (Manny) spits at Joel is a big picture of what is about to come. They literally destroyed the game trying to be innovative. The plot is weak and has a lot of flaws. I mean, do you guys really think Ellie would forget the map with her location at the Aquarium so Abby could find it and go kill her and the others? Ellen didnt even picked the god damn PS Vita, I mean, whatttt? She is crazy about that stuff! Come on! They try so hard to make us like Abby, they try sooooo hard to manipulate our emotions to make us believe that Abby is a nice girl. The manipulations did not worked on me! Abby is an horrible person in a world full of horrible people and I do not care how many hours I was forced to play her character and how many times I had to play with the dog, she is still an horrible person. They could have made this game a masterpiece, but Neils ego got in the way. The first TLOU worked because it was written by people that knows what they are doing. The first game is flawless! The emotions that the game make us feel is something that I never saw or experienced in another game. It is perfection! TLOU 2 is the opposite! You end the game disgusted, tired, feeling a disgrace. i regret buying this game. I struggled to play till the end, because the game is just BORING! The dinamic of the game is boring: we started as Ellie then we play as Abby, agai as Ellie, flashback, Ellie again, now Abby, flashback, Abby, Ellie and this go on for the entire game! It is really awful, annoying and boring! It makes the plot even more difficult to like and follow. I wish this game was never done in the first place. Joel deserved more. The fans deserved more. I have no problem with Joel dying if HIS DEATH WAS WELL EXECUTED AND WRITTEN. If he really had to die cause Neil thought that would be "cool" at least make his death WORTH the 7 years waiting! You just dont kill a character that we all love like that. The game has some good aspects here and there mostly the flashbacks with Ellie and Joel (The Museum was my favorite. Joels face when she hears the astronaut tape made me cry).. everything else in the game is just empty, pointless and without any value. It does not add to the plot it just takes and destroy the original script. They did not even let Ellie keeps Joels memories and bound with her. They took her fingers, so she now can not even play the guitar anymore! They destroyed her , transformed her in something that we started to dislike or even hate! She ends the game alone (remember her conversation with Sam in TLOU? about her biggest fear), empty, destroyed! And why? To justify Abby's actions? I do not care. This is a world of killers. Nobody is a saint, certainly not Joel, but still he deserved more. I do not recommend the game. If you really, really want to torture yourself at least be smart with your money and buy a second hand game. There is a lot being sold online for half price. This game is just not worth the money and the emotional burden. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just a little ending explanation this game is a 10/10 this is a review in in of itself The hatred that Ellie feels for Abby is an externalized reflection of the hatred Ellie harbors for herself.
Why? Well Joel deeply hurt both Abby and Ellie in different ways and they both punished him for it.
Ellie hates Abby for torturing Joel to death, especially because she didn't get a chance to restore her relationship with Joel (but also I mean, obviously Abby killed the man she came to see as her father). This is a mirror to the fact that in a way, Ellie also tortured Joel. she did it for years in a different way, and I'd say in a way that was more painful for Joel. And that was by disconnecting from him.
She hates herself for torturing him like that and not restoring their relationship when there was still time. That's the real pain she has been trying to avoid facing during this entire revenge quest, she's like a drug addict using revenge to avoid dealing with those painful feelings of regret. This is the realization she has while she is drowning Abby when she has the flashback to the scene on the porch with Joel and chooses to spare Abby. She's not just forgiving Abby,
she's really most importantly forgiving herself and finally coming to terms with what happened between her and Joel.
I think her leaving his guitar to rest in the house and walking away is supposed to symbolically represent that she has forgiven Joel, made peace with what happened between them and is finally ready to move on and start a new life.
I hated the end at first but after much deliberation I think it's actually really poetic. People saying the game is just about "revenge is bad" I think have really missed the point. And the end isn’t “stupid”, imo.

Well, now that I've played through the entire game, I figured I'd add my review to the pile. Let me preface by saying that I think both extremes of the fandom are wrong - this is not the worst sequel of all time that deserves a rating of 1 to 4 out of 10, but neither is it a generation-defining masterpiece that deserves all the critic accolades it got.

With that said, let's start with the good. For starters, the gameplay is great. In this regard, the game does what a sequel should do - it builds upon the solid foundation laid by the first title by expanding gameplay options in all directions. The encounters are very fun to play through, whether you choose to take a stealthy approach or gun everyone down, and they are improved heavily from the last game with better enemy AI, more enemy types and more actions available to the playable characters. Exploration is similarly improved from the last game, with more traversal options, and the development team truly outdid themselves with regards to map design - the post-apocalyptic environments are interesting to explore in times of peace, with large maps offering lots of nooks and crannies, filled with both collectibles and items necessary for survival, and the maps provide great venues for combat encounters, with the size and variety of areas giving hundreds of options to approach each encounter. In this category, the game deserves all the praise. In addition to that, it should come as no surprise that, just like every other Naughty Dog title preceding it, the game looks and sounds great. Just like the original game was on the PS3, the sequel is a swan song to the aging PS4 console, squeezing out everything that its technical capabilities can provide. To top it all off, the game is loaded with tiny immersive details that have been a staple of Naughty Dog games for years. From the gameplay perspective, the game is an absolute treat to play through.

Now let's get to the less favorable stuff. The story of the game that the fandom reacted so strongly towards, unfortunately does indeed disappoint. I won't get into spoiler details, but as a huge fan of the first game, I felt like the game mistreated the characters from the original game. And I feel like a large part of the fandom fallout is generated due to Naughty Dog failing to deliver on the promises made to players - namely, that they would tell a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. Throughout the game's marketing campaign, we the fans were assured that the studio understands how strongly people feel about these characters and that the second game would do them justice. Unfortunately, after playing the game, those promises now ring hollow. Despite trying to keep the review spoiler-free, I feel the need to warn any fans of the first game who might be reading this - the game's story trailers are extremely misleading. For one, if you are a fan of Joel, you should know that Joel plays a far smaller role in the game than the trailers would suggest. In addition to that, if you thought this would be Ellie's story first and foremost (something Naughty Dog also assured the players of in the interviews), know that that was also a lie, for the game has a new playable protagonist Abby. The biggest problems with the game's narrative happen due to Abby being kind of forced into it, pulling you out of Ellie's story at a climactic moment, and then spending a large portion of the game playing as the new protagonist instead. And while I felt that Ellie's story was somewhat weak as well, Abby's side of the story is that much weaker. In many ways it retreads a lot of ground from the first game, only doesn't manage to live up to it by a long shot.

The beauty of the first game was in large part due to its simplicity. It was a story of two very likable characters going on a journey together against all odds, and the bond they forged along the way. For the second game the developers clearly wanted to cast a wider net, but in the process, they seemingly forgot or consciously ignored what made people fall so much in love with the first one. While the scope of the second game's story, as well as its cast of characters, is larger than the last game, neither aspect feels as well-done as the first game. Ultimately, the game left me feeling empty that of all the possible ways of furthering the story of Joel and Ellie, they picked the one they did. And this being a story-heavy game, of course that is going to affect the rating a lot.

In the end, I would give this game an 6/10, with the disappointing nature of the story subtracting three points from what could have been a perfect 10/10 rating, and further subtracting one more point for Naughty Dog's blatantly deceptive marketing tactics. I feel like a lot of the backlash for this game could have been avoided if they had been upfront about the kind of direction they wanted to take the game in, instead of "subverting expectations" (god but I've grown to hate that phrase).

I actually loved this game. The graphics are incredible and the gameplay is smooth. Besides this, I did actually enjoy the story. Though definitely darker than the first part, it deals with issues like trauma in a strong way. Playing as Abby also left quite an impact as it showed how a different perspective can make something that seemed black and white become a lot more complicated.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'd like to start off by saying that the first game was a masterpiece that really introduced strong characters and an engaging plot. Sadly, as much as I try to find something positive about this steaming pile of **** I cannot forget about how the plot has taken a nosedive to a horrendous level. There are so many decisions and plot choices that are so horrific that it's hard for me to believe that this pile of garbage belongs to a game series that has been glorified for so many years.

Where to even begin..Joel has been an integral part of the series for so long, and while I completely understand that the writers wanted to send him off, this was NOT the way to do it. It was completely disrespectful to Joel's character. The entire scenario of Joel getting ambushed is completely unlike the Joel that was showcased in The Last of Us 1. If the writers wanted Joel out of the series, could they not have the decency to do it in a way that was slightly respectful of the characters and wasn't unlike his actual character???

It's also hard to ignore the elephant in the room. Abby was introduced in this game as the person who murdered Joel for killing some random doctor that was going to operate on Ellie. Throughout the entire first game, it's been made apparently that the Fireflies are a terrorist group that use violence to accomplish their means. Yet for some reason, the second game decides to portray them and Abby as heroes and protaginists instead?? There literally couldn't be a worse way to set up a character's backstory. Her character was a joke, and completely unlikeable!

Apparently, the entire plot is supposed to be some sort of revenge story with Ellie going after Abby for vengence for murdering Joel. She murders dozens and dozens of her henchmen to get to her. Yet for some completely unknown reason, Ellie chooses to spare Abby's life after finally having Abby at her mercy. This makes no sense!! It completely demolishes her entire journey!

Overall, I can't like this game. I just can't. It disrespects all the characters, introduces new ones that are unlikeable, has bizzare plot holes that make no sense, and consists of a revenge story that has a confusing ending. I'm incredibly disappointed with this bleak game, and I cannot reccomend this to anyone.

Connections and relationships among characters and the "build up" of the plot with them has not been properly executed. Some of the flashbacks and old memories of Ellie has been written really well and they were the best moments of the game and some of the best ever moments written on screen. While the game-play and combat is good, not much new elements were introduced from previous game. No major game-play innovations. However graphics, animations and acting are great and some of the best you will ever see for a long time. I get some people aren't happy about their favourite character being killed off or playing as the person who is killed him but I loved it.

People say one action doesn't make up for a person's mistakes in the past so they can't forgive abby but they are quickly forgetting all the things Joel did in between losing his daughter and saving Ellie in order to survive. Her story arch mirrors that of Joel's in some ways. We see both characters get consumed with hate and wanting revenge. Abby gets to take that revenge but then she is left with guilt and is viewed differently by her friends and she doesn't like that. She has nightmares of the past. She then gets saved by the unlikeliest of people, her groups enemies. But she soon finds a purpose again and goes off on her own little adventure. Whilst as Ellie you take the journey to get her revenge and you see where it takes her along the way and how it consumes and changes her. You see both of them go through so much and lose a lot. The game has you constantly up and down with your emotions, naughty dog took risks with the game and I think they have done it wonderfully. The graphics are spectacular as ever and the level of accessibility for other gamers who may need these are just beyond what you'd expect. Naughty Dog you have done amazing with this.

    Atmosphere:
The game definitely shows an astonishing environment. The graphics are phenomenal and i really liked the level desings. I think they are one of the best the playstation has to offer so far. The horror aspect of the game comes a little bit too short. The game fails here to create a really frightening atmosphere. I definetely give this game one point for graphics and one point for level design though.

    Gameplay:
The gameplay is very similiar to the first the last of us game. It's a combination of stealth enemy encounter, shooting, looting, video sequences and a few puzzles. It becomes very repetetive after a while and it ends being fun after you have seen the pattern :
story sequence -> human enemy encounter -> looting -> zombie encounter -> story sequence. That's the whole cycle of the game. Sometimes the order of the encounter is switched or theres a puzzle sequence within the looting sequence. But that doesn't change the fact that there are no new elements in the game. It's always the same and after a while it stops being fun. It's still not a bad gameplay, it deliveres what we expected. So i still give it one point for it's gameplay.

    Story:
Now the story is something where most people disagree and argue about. Personally i didn't like the story.

The first last of us had a very captivating story, about a battered man, who lost his daughter and finds new meaning in his life in the only immune person on earth, who would have to be killed in order to make a vaccine for the spread virus. It was hearthwarming how players learned to love these two characters as they grew to be some kind of family.

Last of us part 2 focuses on a completely different story. The story is about revenge and hate. The relationship between Ellie and Joel which the players really cared about is not really focused on.
Instead we get introduced to another character which we have to play for half the game. I can totally understand why people didn't like this part. I couldn't care less for the new characters and i even stopped sympathizing with Ellie because the story makes you. Overall the characters they tried to develop turned out boring and in many parts irrelevant. It's a completely different approach to the first game and it did turn out very bad. Therefore i don't give the game any points for it's story.

    Agenda:
The only reason why i mention this point is because it's really a big thing in this game. There's a lot about the presentation of woman in video games, trans characters (and trans oriented characters), gay-sex couples, ethnic and religious diversity to a point where it starts to distract from the story itself. I understand people who found it revolutionary to see all this things in a new triple A title. In my opinion it was too much and it was too forced. A lot of things were just there for the sake of it. It had nothing to do with the story and it didn't really help to develop the characters.
The amount of sexuality, gore and violence was too much for me as a player. I understood what they tried to emphasize with that but it was just too much. You don't get the option to play the game in a way you want. You have to get through all this violence because reasons. I think the devs could've made their point clear without all the unnecessary violence (and explicit scenes).

    Summary:
I think this game had a lot of potential. The issues people argue about were known by the producers and they still decided to keep it this way. I respect that as much as I respect the effort and work for this game.
I still don't recommend this game, because it's still a story driven game with a very poor written story. There are a few fun parts to play but it definetly doesn't justify a 94% rating by critics. As is said in the beginning, it's a mediocre game at best.

The story was done really well and let's you see the moral ambiguity that many characters have. Everyone is likable regardless of what they've done or will do. The gameplay feels like its gone through a bit of a tune up. It is still much like the first but enjoyable enough to not notice it hasn't taken the biggest leap. I'm sorry to say this but Naughty dog will pay for the broken china at the launch of their next game.
My personal note for TLOU part 2 is a "forgiving" 7/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The entire game is a basic, generic revenge plot with forced political correctness all around. Every big bad you kill or friend that dies goes completely forgotten until the flashback points where you find iut more about the bad guys you've killed, but by the point you get there it's already too late. Its been too long since you killed them, you've completely forgotten about them by then. Could have been much better, but isn't. Expand

This is a fantastic game that doesn’t hold back in regards to any amount of violence or any topic. This made me feel every and ended up making me question relationships I had with every character. I’m playing it again, I liked it so much. Please don’t pass this game up. It’s too good to miss.

Absolutely TOP action/adventure game! Great characters, graphics, design, sound, and all these thing in LONG spellbinding journey. ( I feel it is like whole Uncharted trilogy in one game). I am really satisfy! 10/10 Masterpiece!

The games enhanced mechanics make for a tighter gaming experience that the original. The story, while lacking the magic of TLOU, is still powerful and emotional.

This game is so incredible, I can't describe my feelings in the end of this game. I just love it. Was sad, and make me cry for days, I've never felt like that before playing a game.

La verdad no puedo decir menos de este juego, para mí es un gran juego en cuestión gráfica y todos los demás aspectos, pero la historia no es el punto más fuerte, la verdad es un juego que no solo basta con ver cinemáticas tienes que jugarlo

Awesome story telling, as usual for ND. I really loved how the game play has improved and the AI of the NPCs. The story might not please everybody but it has been directed with passion and some good writers were part of it. Highly recommended.

The Last Jedi of the Naughty Dog games. This game comes off as badly written fanfiction where characters are inconsistent, and the ending is incredibly horribly written. How could you get a team of writers to try to come up with the worst story imaginable. Just trash.

Clearly everyone with talent worth a thing left the studio before this game was being written. Amy Hennig should not have

Bravo encore Naughty Dog.

On accueillera avec une grande joie votre prochaine création.

I think overall, the game is a marvel in terms of graphics, gameplay, music and voice acting. But where it really fell short for me is in the story. I just couldn't enjoy the 10 or so hours playing as Abby as much as I enjoyed playing as Ellie. I didn't want a sequel for two of my favorites characters in games, just to be forced to play as someone else who I don't like.
I think the tragic part is that after playing this game, I kind of wish Naughty Dog had just left this story alone. I gave it a 7 because the amount of work that went into this is huge and credit has to be given to the developers. But unfortunately I think that the story was quite a big misstep which is a real shame.
To the people at Naughty Dog, if you read this. Please, if you aren't absolutely positive that you can nail the third game, and give the characters the respect that they deserve, don't make it.

Strong, thought-provoking and addictive gameplay. Suffers a bit with pacing and structure but Naughty Dog still manages to close the generation with a special game.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
