A great attempt at developing game storytelling beyond traditional constraints of narration focused at one point of view. Playing it is a great experience, but as far from fun as it can be - it's challenging and deeply painful, so not for those who seek just a simple pleasure.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unlike all the whiny idiots here, I will give this game a fair review. Get over yourself, Joel fanboys. Killing has consequences, and he paid for his mistakes in a brutal, unforgiving way. Such is the world of The Last of Us I and II. The game is very good. I didn’t agree with all aspects of the story, but I can appreciate it all the same. On a technical level the game is 10 out of 10. Stunning. The only knocks that bring it to an 8 for me are the Seraphine storyline which I found drug on WAY too long. In general, the 3rd act is just way too long. And the violence. Oh, yes, the violence. I don’t actually mind it too much because it does fit the narrative for the most part. But I did find some spots where the game was just ghoulishly violent for the sake of it, not that it fit the story well at that point. And for that I will knock a point off. But all in all, Naughty Dog’s “very good” game is still better than almost any other studio’s best efforts. They are just that good and TLOU2 is no exception. It’s a very good game that fails to quite live up to the sublime first installment, but that doesn’t make the game a 4 like so many other idiots here are rating. Grow up, people. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I made it a point to avoid the spoilers. So when Joel was killed, it was a WTF type of moment. OK, I can handle it, its just a game, ok maybe Ellie is going to do cool stuff and avenge Joel. And then I had to play as Abby. Nope, stick a fork in me, I'm out.

Whoever is doing the writing for this game, it feels like Ryan Johnson is their spirit animal because I could not continue as Abby. I'm done with the franchise. Maybe I should've read the spoilers, I make it a point to ignore them, but the story was enough to override the game and make me regret buying the game. I got a few bucks trade in at gamestop, I guess ok?

The only comparison I have is D&D of Game of Thrones, they just lost touch with what made it good or maybe they just don't care? Maybe they got some big business focus group together and figured this story would make the most money. Whatever happened it's a shame. Doubt I will venture into a part 3 if there is one.

This game has stuck with me for a couple weeks now. Just incredible work. It's not a 10 because there are some specific points where the pacing falters a bit and one of the key relationships isn't fleshed out quite as well as I think it should be, but my god what a bruising, jaw-dropping piece of storytelling overall. This game never stops swinging for the fences, and I love it for that.

Its nothing special, lacks game play innovation and the story is forgettable, and it is not fun, its just draining. There is nothing classic or timeless about this game, and five years from now no one will be talking about it.

I could end this review by just saying that me and loads of fans would be better off if the second part didnt exist, but unfortunately it does.

Once again, the graphics are outstanding, probably the best I've seen on ps4. The amount of details, level design, the variety of locations is top notch. But the story is really weak. The characters we love are unrecognisable and are turned into complete jerks, who sometimes look like even they can't justify or understand their actions.

The whole idea to show us the "villains" point of view is interesting and I was intrigued in the middle of the game, wondering what will happen next. But I just could not get myself to worry about Abby or Mel (pregnant woman goes on a dangerous mission and is fine with it, like cmon. she is a doctor aswell, but it totally fine with it) or any other new characters.
The ending is the worst part, its totally devastating and unbelievably unsatisfying. The game had enourmous potential and technically is done very well. But the plot is horrendous and is basically done like the last season of GOT.

Oh, and look out for those wielding their political hammer, labeling anyone who doesn't like the game a bigot or a phobe. Real mature. I'm sure they all feel just as self righteous as the director of this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having read a lot of reviews for this game; I think some people need to remember that it is, after all, only a video game. Admittedly it’s the sequel to a masterfully made original, but still not of earth shattering importance. It’s not a “0” nor is it a “10”. I believe it is a good enjoyable game but not as excellent as the original. This is a common phenomenon. With the possible exception of The Godfather Part 2, how often is the sequel not as good as the original masterpiece?

I have been wracking my brain to try and work out what exactly is wrong with this sequel. I think the main issue is the disconnect between the actual gameplay and the story concepts. The game play glorifies murder. For example, there are no non lethal takedown, no ability to avoid conflict with all the uninfected enemies and some extremely brutal death animations. This is not a criticism as many video games do the same thing. I for one really enjoyed the virtual blood bath that makes up the majority of the game! However, many of the cut scenes and story concepts try and portray the opposite by Illustrating the negative side of violence and revenge. During such cut scenes, I found myself thinking “yeah, yeah - when can I get back to the slaughtering?” The actions of Abby and Ellie during some of the cut scenes just did not ring true. They seemed dishonest as if the characters are pretending to be sickened by the violence but can’t wait to get back to the murdering. I think this creates too much of a disconnect and does not make the characters believable or relatable.

In addition, efforts made to expound the story concepts and explain all the character arcs made the game over long. I felt it should have ended sooner, perhaps when Abby let’s Ellie go after the fight in the theatre.

Having said all that, it’s still an enjoyable, action packed and excellently animated experience.

The enemy then took cover at the front of the car whilst my partner joined me at the trunk. Now being as this car was next to a wall i couldn't flank them to take a shot. So being boxed in i decided i'm just gonna jump on top of the car and rush them, honestly wasn't sure it was gonna work. So i mount the car and run towards them then Ellie straight up flying kicks this dude in the face and while he's still reeling she crushes his skull with her bat.
This is honestly the best combat AI i have ever experienced in a game. Every encounter is different depending on surroundings and dynamics. It really shines. I loved the first games story but i wasn't very impressed with the gameplay. This gameplay feels fast, frantic, desperate and realistic in all the best ways. Straight up loving it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is one of the best game of this year for me. Yes I feeled myself devastated after the walkthrough, but I also was very grateful to naughty dog for the tremendous work they've done! I know that some people hate TLOU P2 because of Joel's death, the second part of the game and so on. I personally think that those who hate TLOU P2 in general didn't playes at all, they just saw some leaks and make conclusion that this game is about subverting expectations and disrespect to the original game, but they were wrong, this game is good, and it was made by those people who very love Joel and other characters, Troy Baker personally argue with Neil Druckman about this "golf club scene" and in the and even he realised how good, and sad, and very important this story is, this story not classic story about protagonist who won all enemies, in this game you actually never find classic protagonist, but in the end of this story you will understand that this game is much more than the other many good games wich released in this year exactly because of this story. 10/10 best graphics on this generation, best world building, best action and steals gameplay, great art direction and again the best storytelling in this year. PS: you don't have to love this game, but do yourself a favour and play in TLOU P2 at the beginning and in the end, and only after this come here and say your opinion about this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First let me start by saying that TLOU (the original) is one of my top three favorite games of all times. I've played that game in all difficulties and at least 8 times total. That game deserves to be called a masterpiece.

My score for this God-forsaken title is 3 out of 10. Reason why I'm giving it a 0 is that if the "critics" have the audacity to give it a 10 then I'll do the same the other way around and drop it to 0.

Joel is one of the best written characters I've had the pleasure to play as. He's deeply flawed, hurt, and he's just trying to survive. He runs into a situation that allows him to experiment what he once thought lost. We get to go through that process in the middle of an apocalyptic world with incredible environment and powerful relationships. That story gets to you, it makes you feel connected to the character.
Ellie is a complete bad-ass. We love her from the moment we met her and once we got to know her she became a person you just can stop trying to care of, even though she's more than capable to do it by herself. This father-daughter relationship creates a bond that it's impossible not to love.

    Here's my take on TLOU2:
    - Joel is portrait as a complete different character. He makes decisions that are not the ones he would do. Same as his brother Tommy.
    - Joel gets killed the worst imaginable way. And in the first two hours! He deserved better. Know your audience Neil Druckman.
    - Joel gets spit in his bashed faced by a self inserted Druckman after he's killed. I felt that spit in my face, and before you say it, no, not in a good story telling way, just in a disgusting, unnecessary way.
    - Ellie: I still love Ellie, it's just overwhelmingly sad to see that all they added to her in terms of character is a revenge plot. No closure on her relationship with Joel.
    - Abby: I will never care for Abby, you can put me in a 60-hour Abby only game, where she saves humanity and then becomes Mother Theresa 2 and I still won't like her. Her motivations, character, story telling are not compelling in the way they were presented. And on top of that we get to play as her for 15 hours? And right after she killed our beloved Joel? I think that my 3-year-old nephew can come up with something better than that.
    - With so many plot lines, you decided to explore this one? Was a team of writers consulted on their thoughts and if they were, were their opinions taken into account? I've read hundreds of ideas on possible plots that I would get behind. Deep, interesting, exploring our beloved characters even more. So many possibilities wasted, this is just sad.
    - Gameplay is basically the same as the old one so nothing more to say on that side.
    - Visuals are stunning no doubt about it, top-notch in that regard. Unfortunately this means nothing if the game story isn't enjoyable.
    - The ending is mind-blowing bad. Let's take your plot and finish it maybe? Oh, no! Let's kill 300 people (including a pregnant lady) and then let's forgive the one person who destroy our life and killed our father. Seriously?

I could write an essay on why you shouldn't play TLOU2 but I'll just stick to what you should know right now: Don't waste your money on this game. Better support game companies that actually care about their fan bases.

The first game was a masterpiece, loved it. But the second is a nonsense. Just about revenge with no real outcome. Game mechanics and animations etc, all fine. Just has no story.

And towards the end, I thought it was ending three of four times (and I wish it had) but it drags on and on. To an ultimate conclusion, that is just a farce. It takes the saying, 'before you embark on a journey of revenge, you should dig two graves' as a plot for a whole game. The character interactions are weird, people following others for no good reason - and then willing to sacrifice their lives. Or go on a major killing spree for their love that has just happened.

I hated it to be honest and characters like Anabolic Abby - made no sense in a post-apocalyptic world. Nor did things like sending pregnant women out on patrols ... fine being pregnant isn't a disease but that is the future of the world they carry. You would protect that at all costs. Then on top of that the 'diversity' nonsense - and the women overpowering massively muscled men. Yeah firearms equal the playing field but there is a lot of hand-to-hand combat type episodes and I didn't buy it at all.

What made this game interesting was the leaks that Naughty Dog refuted at first and went after YouTubers etc with copyright strikes. Well they were all pretty much true - so doesn't make Naughty Dog look particularly good. Hope they just end the series now and forever. Interested to see how they deal with this story in the new TV series.

Terrible, long and boring - had potential with decent game mechanics and graphics etc. But squandered by taking a very thin story and dragging it out from multiple perspectives. Avoid at all costs, not even worth the money I paid for it on sale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finished it, it's not a perfect game, I'm honestly not sure I'd give it a 10/10, but the incels are busy downvoting this game so here goes.

It's a good game, it doesn't feel as impactful as the first game, but it's still great.

    - Graphics -
The graphics are, as expected really good, among the very best I've seen in any game, what really stands out though is the animation, everything looks natural and lifelike, I felt completely immersed as I was playing, as there was very few things to remind you that you were playing a game.

    - Story -
The story is probably where I'm a little split, it's a perfectly good story told competently, and all the complaints about bad writing followed up with no examples, ring incredibly dishonest to me.

There were irks though, like Abby's father, he didn't need to be Mr. perfect, for me to sympathize with Abby, so while I understand the need to introduce him, it was laid on a little thick imo. I actually liked the doctor you only hear from in the first game, that let out the monkeys and gets bit as a result, well meaning but probably not the smartest.
There were other minor stuff, but overall, it made good sense and all the characters seemed real and relatable.
The overall story was fine, it never did have the same gut-punch effect of the first game, but there are some really nice details, like the book on Joels counter, that'll only make sense when you learn what Joel did for Ellie, for her birthday.

    - Gameplay -
Despite it technically just being a third person shooter, it played nicely, and feels like it's own game. I really liked the AI, they're not all knowing, but they'll still flank you or sneak up on you given the chance, and you will actually notice differences in the AI wether they are Seraphites, or WLF, a really nice touch imo.
It keeps the gameplay from the first game, in the sense that aiming isn't the easiest, your character will sway a lot, at least early on before you get upgrades, and ammo is scarce, but you somehow never completely run out, no different from the previous.

    - Sound/Music -
Just great stuff, sounds are as good as you'd expect at this point. Music, it's really good, but imo not the kind you go listen to after playing the game, it's very subtle, and I find myself recognizing it if it plays somewhere.

I'm glad they didn't pander to people who liked Joel and Ellie, I mean we all liked them as characters, but fortunately that first game is still available, and still plays nicely if that's all you want. If you want a new story with incredible detail, and good characters, I'd recommend this game.

People defending the game said it was hate bcoz of Feminism, Death of a major character, Political message (have no idea what it meant), or Lesbian etc....No I didn't hate the game bcoz of any of these. Lets go further starting with positives.

    Pros:

    Some brilliant design Levels

    STORY. STORY. STORY **Spoilers follow****

What starts as revenge story, goes into something else. And they ask you to play as Abby (Antagonist) for half the game which made me irritated. To me her father decided to kill a small girl without anyone's consent (he was wrong). Joel protected the kid and killed him for raising the knife at him. Joel was a hero and Abby torturing to death without knowing the real incident that led to her Father's death, makes her a villain in my eyes. So the makers decided to show the game from Abby's side, trying to project revenge is not good was all some bull**** piece of writing. In fact they were contradicting their stance on the first game. Game drags like anything in the last portion, there were 2-3 moments I thought the game was over but it kept on going. Ending was absolutely bad, making me wonder what was the overall point of the game. I wish they never made the 2nd half of the game or taken a different storyline or best of all "I wish this sequel was never made"

Although I did find it a bit too easy to spam the Dodge button to avoid taking damage. 3) The score and sound of the game is superb. ND showed out with their best looking and sounding game to date. Cons: 1) I hated the game. So many reasons to list, none of which are unique to me based on other reviews. I’ll never play it again and it kind of breaks my heart to write this. 2) The game did so wrong by its portrayal of the characters I’d grown to love in the first game. I’m team Joel and Ellie to the end so this may be a personal bias. I didn’t like ‘Joel-the-Plot-Piece’, ‘Ellie-the-Monster’, ‘Tommy-the-Jerk’, and the immediate short-lived character arcs of the new folks I never cared about. 3) I didn’t like Abby, but I HATED playing as her. I feel the game cut the wrong corners to try to force the player to like her. The game tries too hard to get you to empathize with her. It’s the same feeling of skepticism you might feel when you meet someone for the first time, and they go out of their way to convince you how nice and honest of a person they are. As a player and spectator, it felt disingenuous. To be forced to play as a character I never cared about for so many hours is a disservice to the fan base. I lost count of how many times I said to myself “I don’t care what happens to any of these people.” Not what you want in a narrative and story-driven game. 4) So many plot holes it was impossible to suspend my disbelief enough to bridge the gap in my mind to stay engrossed in the story. Too many to list. One recurring one was ‘I’m going to risk my neck on this revenge mission but I’ll let you live at the last moment because.... reasons’. 5) HOLY SOCIAL JUSTICE AGENDA. It’s about as subtle as a golf club to the head. The game contrived every possible opportunity to push its political agenda that the intended impact actually had an impact antithetical to its desired goal. Not only in the main “themes” like orientation and exploring the struggles of gender non-binary characters (which I should probably clarify that like any entertainment theme or detail, I have no problem with if it’s done tastefully) but also in more subtle ways like walking over to random NPCs and listening to their conversations, or seeing a table at the WLF outpost at which a smaller woman beat a man in arm wrestling. Not that it couldn’t happen (it happens daily), but little things like that were so prevalent it was hard to take any of it seriously by the end. It was so prolific that I found myself rolling my eyes and shaking my head in a “Where’s Waldo” kind of game with myself every time I picked up on another spoon-feeding of subliminal wokeness. I could keep going but I doubt anyone even made it this far in my review. I’ll never play this game again. It should have never been made. Naughty Dog should have created a prequel or a spinoff IP because the first game was too perfect to try to follow it up. It was an impossible goal, but I don’t think they really gave it their best effort to create the best-possible game. I think Druckmann got way too smug with his creative license and totally ruined TLOU. This is proof that great graphics + money + time do not necessarily equal a great game. Final Score: 2.5/10 Expand

Set in a hard world populated by hard people, there are no heroes here, only damaged people who do bad things in order to survive. The journey Ellie undertakes is one of revenge and anger, and the consequences of Joel’s decisions in the first game are core to the events of the sequel. The game is difficult to play, matching the trials the characters must endure. You’ll find yourself mentally exhausted, wondering when the hardships will end as you play. By the end you want it to be over, not because it’s a bad game but because the journey has been so difficult.

Is it perfect? No. However Naughty Dog has created an excellent story that tells of damaged people who will go to extremes to protect the ones they love, even if that means killing those loved by others. It’s sad, it’s difficult, it will probably bring out emotions as few games can, but it’s necessary to tell the story of past decisions that have consequences. Play it and enjoy the story, and don’t worry about those that dislike it for making tough choices.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have never written a review on metacritic before, but due to this game's controversy, and it being review bombed, I feel like I should write one now that I finished it. I'm no writer, so I'm sorry if my review isn't particularly well written.
It took me around 25 hours to finish it, spending a lot of time exploring as much as I could.

The short, spoiler free review is:

The game is amazing! It's hard to play like some movies are hard to watch. It's uncomfortable, it kept me on the edge of my seat for most of it and I really love it.
Play if for yourself, borrow a copy if you are afraid you might not like it, but I can't imagine someone not liking it. Yes, things happened in the story that made me angry and sad, but a good story doesn't only have things the audience wants.
I truly believe this game deserves a 10, but I understand not everyone will agree with me. That being said, I can't imagine anyone giving this game less than a 6. A 6 would be the score if the person absolutely hates cinematic and/or survival games, but if you hate this kind of games then you shouldn't be playing it.

The longer, with some spoilers review follows (SPOILERS!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED)

I avoided any spoilers before playing the game. Even trying to avoid them I knew people were pissed because the antagonist is trans (although I can't understand why that's a reason for someone to be pissed) but I didn't know any details. Well, the game really does have a trans character, but it is not the antagonist like people assumed. People though Abby was trans, but she is just really buffed. There is another character that is trans, I really enjoyed his journey, but now I wonder if there were two separate leaks, one saying there is a trans character and another showing Abby with the gold club and people just made a wrong assumption.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the way the story is structured. It uses it's two protagonists to show the player the same events through different lenses. I hated a character in the beginning, then later loved them because I got to see things in a different way. I got really pissed at characters I've always loved, but I "forgave" then once they found redemption. Everyone is the hero on their own story.

The first game had some "nice" and "light" moments (like the giraffes), and this one does too, but on this game those moments are mostly flashbacks and memories. The present of the protagonists sucks most of the time, they are always under pressure, fighting for their and for their loved ones lives.

The game is good I get why some people are angry even after playing it, hell I'm angry at the game, but It's still really good, it's supposed to make you angry, it reminds us that everyone has their own story.

Last of Us was a one off with a logical ending point and making a 2nd one is a disingenuous thing from a company that hasn't made a decent product in decades and every day is getting destroyed by Microsoft, LG, Samsung, Apple, and Disney.

As for this game, it's graphically appealing. The visuals look like they should be after an extensive development cycle. But that's the only bright spot. The story is slow, filled with holes, and is relatively pointless. The game is dark just to be dark. No light moments, no humor, no anything. Just a miserable existence. The gameplay is boring, and too many times you get to an area where there is nothing to do. It's like Naughty Dog wanted to make an open world game, but are incapable of doing so, so they went back to a linear nonsensical story. Gun play is as bad as the first game. Many new characters that are unlikable and meaningless. Another issue, if I wanted to watch a movie, I would watch a movie. This "game" is full of cut scenes. Way too many cut scenes. Clearly Naughty Dog was unable to create a game of a decent length, so it used quite a lot of filler.

Finally, this game is 10 hours too long. What should've been a 15 hour experience turned into a 25 hour snooze due to all the excessive filler. I am not sure why Naughty Dog went the route they did, but I now fully understand why so many of their devs now work for Xbox. If this is the best that studio can do, leaving the studio to express your creativity elsewhere is the best option.

I wanted to give this game a 6.5, but Metacritic doesn't do halves, and 7 is too high for this game.

Now that I’ve seen the ending of the second I can only consider this sequel to be what every naysayer claimed it to be: an absolute bastardisation of everything the first game was from a story perspective. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us — Part II is the most profoundly human, viscerally violent, lachrymose game I have ever played. It is tied together with beautiful graphics, immersive gameplay, and a stellar soundtrack. In my life, few games have caused me to reflect so deeply on the motivations of characters, and displayed such realism depicting their deaths. It is as controversial as it is beloved, but I will express why, in my opinion, this game is so noteworthy.

While The Last of Us struggled somewhat with lackluster gameplay, it’s sequel corrects all the original’s shortcomings. While some gameplay aspects remain, such as the scavenging and required stealth, many things have been adjusted and tweaked for a better overall experience. Combat is more fluid and responsive, with breathtaking animation for all the characters that adds to the immersion. A few mechanics have been added, including the ability to prone. This new ability allows you to hide under gaps in buildings and military trucks, amongst other things. Another new addition is a dedicated doge button. When fully mastered, players can dodge and counter an enemy’s attack, cause devastating blows which add a sense of desperation to each attack. The most notable tweak, however, is the shooting mechanic. Shooting now feels more refined, and hit and kill indicators have been added. As a whole, where the gameplay felt repetitive in the original, it now feels more fully realized, refined, and mature; it’s been polished with a shiny, new veneer.

Moving on, what would this game be without a good narrative? As always, Naughty Dog displays their masterful story telling. Once again, you’re introduced to Ellie, who is now older and more mature. In contrast to the first game, you now play as her through the majority of the game. She has settled into a semi-idealistic lifestyle in Jackson. Though she retains some of her iconic cheerful, quirky banter, you find that she’s grown into a quieter, more reserved adult (perhaps from her emotional traumas). Halfway through the game, you learn it is a story told in parallels between Ellie and her counterpart, Abby.

Abby is similar to Ellie in almost all regards. Like Ellie, she is a survivor hellbent on revenge. Robbed of someone once close to her, she would sacrifice anything to avenge their murder, and she does. It is this act of revenge that propels the story onwards; and brings Ellie to her hometown of Seattle, Washington. Here, the two eventually battle one another. Because of their similarities, their fight is extremely painful to watch — and even more painful to play through.

Sadly, both characters have wonderful character traits; even sadder, they both have abysmal flaws. Both characters are extremely loyal to their loved ones to a fault — literally, as both go to great lengths
to avenge the murders of their respective loved ones. Ellie’s biggest flaw stems from the guilt of being “saved” by Joel. Her counterpart’s stems from the devastation of losing loved ones. Throughout the game, countless lives are lost in seemingly pointless deaths. The dark reality of these deaths is that they’re caused by the shared blind loyalty both characters have. It is simultaneously their greatest strength and their greatest flaw. It is, as established in the previous game, the same corrupt love that propelled Joel’s selfish decision to save Ellie (blinding him to all the countless lives that would be lost). Overall, it’s story carefully tackles heavy themes of revenge, hatred, and the intoxicatingly self-destructive nature of violence. In conclusion, this is, arguably, the most thought-provoking game ever made. With new polished gameplay mechanics, it feels like the older brother to its predecessor. Its story constantly challenges its player to question motives, to abhor the violence its player is committing, and to challenge the desensitized nature of violence in video games. It is a game that stays with you long after you finish it, and it has enough replay value for you to play multiple times. In conclusion, this game is a masterpiece chalk full of Naughty Dog’s artistry and attention to detail both in fidelity and moral ambiguity. It’s story is as tragic as it is brutal, and it is an immaculate vision executed with near perfection; a truly worthy sequel.

It astounds me that anyone who's played this game could give it less than an 8. The story is phenomenal. I can't emphasis how much more this game delivers on an emotional level than its predecessor. The game-play is tight and incredibly tense and this game raises more questions then it could possibly answer. Anyone who read the links robbed themselves of an incredible experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll give it a 2/10 for the two fingers ellie lost. Very poor choices by script writers and directors especially that awful slam piece where the two guys ( one of them abby) engaged in sex, and Sony wants to censor DMC 5 and FF cause they portray woman as woman, shame on you. Playing as the antagonist, ND wants to be edgy and blur the lines but we all know Abby is the bad guy. And to go through all of that and then a flashback stops you from killing her is ridiculous, so you dont even get revenge.. that was such a big point/theme was revenge and it falls flat. Wont be supporting naughty dog again as they write material worse than fan fiction. On the black list you go with EA and Bethesda.

Its also funny that most of the 10/10 user reviewers never rated anything else and echo what the weak critics reviews have said, they not handing out free review copys anymore people

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. People took upon themselves to destroy the rating of this game. All because they do not like an homosexual character which is actually one of the most brave and strong characters I ever played with, a resolve like Ripley of alien. People hate it because Joel dies, because the antagonistic is not likeable or for anything the game ends up with. Not sure why as I haven't ended the game and the 10 is to balance out other reviews with a 0. Gameplay is fantastic, huge improvement and very fluid, graphically stunning and huge areas to explore, enough to get lost. Characterization is fantastic and very deep. The game is one of the most defining ones for this generation of games, give it an honest try, I assure you thst is is a brilliant game. Expand

I see review bombing as an extremely distasteful and immature practice... First off, there is NO WAY that this many people finished the game after only being out a few hours (when the negative reviews started popping up), therefore they're basing their reviews off of hearsay, political views and/or very initial opinions at the least - which is not fair. Admittedly I'm only about 5 hours in and I'm working from home if that tells you anything - I gots the time to put in and I've barely grazed the surface. I mean are all these people just like "F$*% it" and staying up to play for 30 hours straight ignoring the rest of their lives? I don't think so...

The story-line *5 hours-in* is emotionally charged, the characters are ok - not mind-blowing but also not worthy of a zero... The very first thing that caught my attention is the graphics. Now I'm a PC gamer and I originally only bought the PS4 for Bloodborne. I've come to appreciate the PS4 as it's opened me up a whole new category of PS4 exclusives which are mostly top tier quality games. Within the first 20 minutes I got used to the 24fps @ 4K on the PS4 (down from 144fps @4K on my monster PC) and in all honesty I was pretty blown away... (•_•) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■)

I think the problem of the blatant review bombing stems from within two areas... 1) there have been some leaks and some of these story-based leaks have been extremely unpopular with hardcore fans and 2) The use of LGBT characters is seen by many in gaming culture as a sneaky way of forcing a political agenda onto the audience. This kind of thing definitely happens and it can ruin a game if it's over the top, but IMHO it's NOT the case here. Before even giving the game a chance many stubborn fans are screaming "SJW! SJW!". For myself, I appreciate diversity in both life and in games. I love seeing/hearing a story from someone who doesn't make similar lifestyle decisions as I do or maybe belongs to a subculture that I don't have much knowledge of. It's eye opening and by having some diversity in games it only helps the community. I do admit that I don't like political agendas shoved down my throat either but that is NOT what is happening here. She just happens to be gay, that's it, end of story - get over it. I honestly think that by continuously bringing this up it only makes the gaming community look like we're bigoted/closed-minded and I know that many of us are not.

As I stated, I'm only about 5 hours in and I've been trying not to catch any spoilers... I will come back and write an HONEST review once I have finished the game but for now at least, take user reviews with a grain of salt.

This is a complicated game that will be hard to play for anyone. A complex story of vengeance and letting go. I feel like there are slight gaps in dialogs and pacing, but overall it is a masterpiece and one of the greatest gaming achievements.

If you wonder if the game really is that bad to be deserving a 0/10 (if you can even call it that, really tries to be more of a movie / walking simulator / interactive storytelling experience) - yeah, it is. The story is abysmal and illogical holy schmokes. Gameplay has been simplified compared to part 1, and there is less action of that simplified gameplay, too.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll start with the obvious, no game is perfect. But many people seem to be overly negative, and I think this game is definitely a 9.8

To begin, I'd summarize this game to be the perfect sequel to what it meant, Joel's selfish deadly love act to keep Ellie.
You learn to see a story through your own eyes, if you know why you made a bad choice you can justify it. Sure you wouldn't want others to do it, but you were different. You had a good reason.
The game dives into this quite hard, and this will hit like a sledge hammer. Any writer should be proud to have written something so meaningful. Everything build together so wonderfully.

Music was always linked to Joel, and by the end, Ellie has learned Joel's love, and his anger. Loosing her musical fingers severs her from music, now what that means exactly is up to yourself, to me it seems like it allows her to grief. But to you that may mean something different, and that's a great key of writing, the meaning depends on your experience. But it's a tough thing for sure to involve yourself in this story. My hat is off to the writers though.

Pushing political agendas in such a blatant way that completely ruins the game's narrative is absolutely disgusting. If this game's strongest point was it's gameplay maybe I'd consider tolerating it to some extent but most of us wanted to experience the story. If I could give it a lower rating than zero I would gladly.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
