    The first game was a masterpiece, no doubt about it, from the graphics, the gameplay, the story and characters, however, the sequel is far inferior.
    Poor handling of already established characters, the story relies far too much on coincidence and unrealistic situations, some of which feel forced and manipulative.

    The graphics and sound are outstanding. While some of the characters might be flawed and/or unlikeable, the voice acting is great as expected considering the talent involved. Sadly, it’s not enough to make the experience a good one.

    Finally, the game was advertised as something completely different through deceptive advertising, false statements from the game makers, altered game footage and obvious manipulation/censoring of early reviews.    … Expand

    This is one of the most amazing videogames ever, even with the Abby's decision I can say that the story is pretty great. It makes my cry a couple of times. Thanks for this amazing game.

I personally was fine with Joel's death people say it's not what he would do but if you play the game youd see he has no choice but to follow abby. I think it's a great sequel… Expand

    Graphics are stunning, the gameplay is the same as the original, it feels like there are only minor tweaks to some of the gameplay mechanics.

    The story is my main issue with the game, it jumps all over the place and is full of flashbacks, unlikable characters, disappointments and plot holes.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay, so let me start by saying this isn’t the story that I wanted. It’s sad, morbid, depressing, and it sank my heart. But so did Bridge to Terabithia. Both stories are AMAZING. Sometimes a story reminds you that real life happens. Not every ends with a Rocky fist raised. Not every character is Obi Wan Kenobi or Tony Stark, leaving on his terms, saving the lives of those that matter, and embracing the void. Going gently into the goodnight. A hero’s death is a hopeless gesture. Real death...is always sudden no matter how it happens. Every death is Peter Parker in endgame. And thus it was with Joel. I’d spent a lot of time with Joel, across my 4-5 full playthroughs. He was near and dear to me. And in the opening hours, the first 3, he dies. Brutally. By a woman who appears as brutal and primal as the death she handed Joel. She’s a hulking figure, and this brute kills our Joel. And that is the moment many people saw prematurely, or simply turned the game off afterwards, that lead to this game being robbed of the acclaim it deserved. It’s tough to stomach, tough to accept, and on my second play through I skipped it entirely. So heavy are the emotions such a scene envokes. However, if you approach any death or sad situation in a story as “why did the writers do this,” instead of “why did these characters do this,” you will always be upset. The reaction to Joel’s death determines your review. The game shows you both sides, and yet so many people could care less about Abby because of what she did.The way they show Abby and build sympathy wasn’t perfect, the pacing was an issue—what with all almost the characters in her story having already died in Ellie’s—and some parts were just boring (I’m looking at you Awuarium flashback/Seattleday 1) however, it was good nonetheless. Those weak points are mostly covered by highs that I’ve rarely EVER seen in gaming. There are spectacles galore. One of the greatest moments in the game is one I hated the most going into. The theatre scene. You okay as Ellie earlier but then..you switch perspectives. THIS TIME YOU ARE ABBY. And I was PISSED. WHAT??? You’re gonna make me kill Ellie and Dina? No **** way. I let myself die quite a few times. And once I finally decided to just let the story move on—you begin to realize Ellie doesn’t die, and now you’re just trying to kill her. And boy is she hard to kill. What Naughty Dog did here is take all the conflict the characters have right now, and relay them through you in a way that just wouldn’t be possible if Ellie got to beat up on Abby. You’re mad at the devs, why would they do this to you, you feel betrayed, after you’ve already given them a second cha—ohhhh. That’s exactly how Abby feels. She spared Ellie’s life and in return Ellie killed everybody she had ever loved besides Lev. You’re worried about Ellie, just like Dina does, and when Dina jumps in all you’re hoping is that she doesn’t get hurt. And right before Abby can finish the deal, it’s Lev who stops her. It’s gone too far she echoes, just leave it. And Abby does, with a promise that a return means death and you the player definitely believe her. And Ellie tries to but she can’t. She’s haunted by everything that has happened to her. Dina has the baby, they’re living in a farm, life should be good. But in the middle of the night Ellie goes off to complete her quest...and doesn’t. What some people concluded was that this was the game trying to tell you that “blah blah murder bad” which shows a historical missing of the point. So as the fight ensues, while some were waiting to slit her throat, I just wanted it to be over. I felt bad for both characters, and I knew that no matter who left that water, they’d both die. And...neither do. It was...brilliant. Yet again, where some clocked out I fell in love. Ellie goes home to a house empty, which is the saddest thing imaginable. She did all that. But for what? She has nothing, or does she? What I noticed is Ellie didn’t have her bracelet when she went on this quest. It wasn’t on in her fight with Abby. But low and behold...there it is. Back on her wrist again. And she isn’t bruised. And she has no weapons. That means she MUST have gotten back to Dina, and we just didn’t get to see it, to leave us guessing. She isn’t surprised when she sees the house empty. She doesn’t cry out for anybody’s name, she doesn’t shed any tears. She knows the house is empty. She tries to play Joel’s guitar but...three fingers. It’s a sad symbolism of her finally letting go of Joel’s death, and maybe ending the cycle. For now.… Expand

    I went into The Last of Us Part II knowing the spoilers for the first bit of the game. I soon realized that some of the spoilers were wrong and that the game was great. It makes you feel emotions that you never felt before playing a video game. It leaves you thinking for a long time after you beat it.     This is one of the best games I have ever played. I really enjoyed the story and how it was very brutal and dark. Feels much more realistic compared to other games. The combat is extremely fun and beautiful graphics make for a fantastic experience. You go on a roller coaster of emotions over the long and tough journey. A must play for any PS4 owner.

Therefore the second installment, as it showed, demonstrated another groundbreaking deviation from the gaming norms just like the first. I suggest everyone to play this game before giving their final thought. I understand that it might not be the best game or the game that you asked and expected; however, it needs to be said that this will be a once in a generation success in terms of gameplay, graphics, story, and character development.     A masterpiece sequel to the first game. Everything has been done in the proper way. Even it has not been love by most people, but I must admit that it has been done in the way it should be. Just can't wait for the next sequel of part 3.

THe story hits straight to the feels. i have expected that Joel will die and it will be the core of the story, I played feeling like ellie... i played feeling like abby. at the last "boss" fight, when ellie was drwoning abby, i was like "no! ellie!This is the best game I have played in 2020.     considering the graphics, the artificial intelligence and the length of the game a 7 is a must.

    Masterful storytelling and incredible gameplay. It might not be the story you want but it’s her story and a story that needed to be told. Only in a medium like games can something such as this game do something like this and impact your soul and shake it up a bit. It needs to be a game that is experienced by all that can.

    Graphics and gameplay are fantastic and lot better than part 1. While story is not for everyone.they could have used red dead redemption approach which would please lot of people but they didn't. They took a new and authentic approach. Which was very realistic and relatable. I didn't liked TLOU1 but I knew that TLOU2 would be different and unique (in good way).

    This game is simply out of this world, the way that it makes you feel, the amount of thought that you give to the game, the amount of emotions that makes you transmit the conversations that sparks after playing and its gameplay, ambiance and innovative enemy elements is out of this world.
    No other game ever did the commotion that this one did.
    It's a wonderful game and my top 1 game for sure.

First of all I think that the last of part 2 is one of the biggest masterpiecies of the entire decade. I think that the story might not be happy, but it is a huge huge success at telling a deep meaningful story of the humanity and the world that Ellie, Abby, Joel etc live in. What most of the people that disliked the game don't understand and it's really difficult to understand because the only way you can get the story is by knowing that it is a deep really deep meannig that other films and games have used in the past and this way they just underestimate the game. Like what humanity can do and what a person is capable of doing about something that is really meaningful for him.Ellie lost her "father" joel cause he couldn't live without her, let me explain.Joel could't let ellie die because their relationship was as powerful as his daughter's shara and because he lost his trust to the humanity because "humanity killed" his daughter indirectly and that maked him selfish and only caring about his life and nothing else that's why he has killed so many innocent people. I am not hatting Joel but I am just saying that he did many bad things and after getting his daughter back he started a new life and trying to be a better person and forget his past but it was too late to change his character and the thinks he did were not forgivable and what he trying to do was to just not let her go before him and he succeed in doing. Now I am really tired because I can talk about the game the story and the characters litreally foreverthanks for hearing me sorry that I didn't cover some mayor thing such as the character of ellie but I am really tired of writting btw sorry for my english.     It's amazing. I never thought that a game coul mix all these feelings with a story. I really enjoyed all the characteres, all the multual plots and how they can be used in the future in other games. it's just amazing.

Yes the story does not go the way that people imagined or hoped it would, but that is what I love about it. It beautiful portrays the hellish reality in which they live. Their motives are scattered and they are lost. Ellie blindly seeks revenge in hopes that she can regain some normality only to discover in the end that revenge will not help her. The characters have become as wild as anyone else they face throughout the game. The different emotional elements the characters have to face creates so many layers of intrigue. You really start to worry for them and feel their dread. How they make you feel the world through Abbies eyes is incredible. It really shows you that living in this world is tough for everyone and not just Ellie. At first you despise Abbie but then you start to empathise with her and understand where she is coming from. This is not just a typical revenge story, their are so many different variables that make it truly fascinating. Everybody has a different opinion on this game and at the end of the day your opinion is what matters the most. And in my opinion this captivating journey, with it’s gorgeous scenery and super fun gameplay has been one of the Greatest games I have ever played.… Expand

The character development is practically non-existent and Joel and Ellie's development is just GONE! The graphics are beautiful and the open world is very detailed, but as someone else stated, what's the point of amazing graphics with scrap story. Don't waste your money or time on this game. People are rating it so poorly and I just don't understand. This game is fantastic and challenging. Not only does it challenge you emotionally with constant stress and the ever present fear of being captured or killed, but it challenges you morally. It opens up discussion of punishment and what people deserve for their actions. Did Joel deserve to die? Did Abby's father deserve to die? Not only those challenges but the game is BEAUTIFUL!!! Visually it is wonderfully made, the game level design is dynamic and detailed. The characters are fully realized. DID YOU KNOW EACH BAD GUY HAS A NAME!! EVEN THE DOGS! This game is so REAL! Its real and raw, its emotional and story driven. It is truly a masterpiece that will be the topic of discussion as a point in time that set the tone for future video games, just as its predecessor did.… Expand

    Superb game...Beware of negative reviews. There has been an online campaign against this game by trolls and competitors. A lot of negative reviews were posted right after game launch, before one would've had time to complete the game which took me 30 hours.

    This game is the masterpiece! Technicaly it is not reovolution, but it can be presentated as the game of the generation. The last of us part 2 doesn`t promise the great plot but during the game I started understanding that this sight of revenge is special. All the details, all the violence, all the realationships between the heroes show us the real revenge and all the consequences. IThis game is the masterpiece!     This game had tremendous potential to be really great, unfortunately Naughty Dog is washed up these days and fired all their competent writers, Sad. It took me ages just to finish this game because of how boring it was.

It puts the players in completely uncharted land to help deliver a story that heavily questions our motives, our reality and our feelings.

I am not a gamer and TLOU is the only game I've ever played and completed. I was so scared that I would hate this because of the negativity online and whispers of a terrible storyline. Now, I am so relieved that I loved this game. Obviously the things that happened early on in the game were going to cause deep and raw emotional reactions, and they were meant to. I truly don't understand how people can accuse this game of bad writing or story telling. It's a tale of survivors and makes you second guess yourself as a player. I think people held onto their anger at Joel's death just to spite themselves. It wasn't thrown in early to rush it, it was to catch you off guard. He didn't get a hero's ending not because he's not hero (whether he is or isn't is debatable), but because it's unrealistic. People only want realism when it suits them.
    It's an amazing game. An exploration of loss and forgiveness and love and hate. I signed up just to give this one more good review.    … Expand

    This game just has a horribly unbelievable story because in the post apocalypse, people arent going to be worried about transitioning their gender, they are going to be worried about eating. This game just has such a stupid concept. Just really shows how dumb devs really are these days. They cant even grasp simple concepts like that. And it just makes for awful un-immersive games/stories.

    Not to mention that nothing was even mentioned in the first one about gender transition or anything, but the second games comes out, and is pretty much all about gender transition? In the apocalypse? Its just so fkin unbelievable that its ridiculous. You would have to be such a moron to buy this story. Because trust me, when your worried about eating, and being eatin, transitioning your gender is going to be the last thing on your mind..

    Just because the story isn’t what *you* wanted it to be, doesn’t make it bad. People die, stuff happens, things don’t go as planned. Not every story gets a satisfying, happy ending. Deal with it. The game is set in a bleak, post apocalyptic world, not a Disney fairy tale.

    Loved it. They made everything better. The story is for a mature audience. More like a novel. Not your usual Video game that gives you triumphant victory at the end. It's very philosophical and thought provoking.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. its funny how badly this game is being reviewed just because you dont get that warm fuzzy feeling does not mean the story is not good so many people have missed the point completly this game does very well at making you feel exactly the same way as ellie after losing her father figure in such a brutal way it fuels her and the player for vengeance. dont get me wrong when i first had to play as the other character i threw her off a roof for about an hour but once i finally gave her a chance i actually began to become sympathetic towards her. joel did wipe out an enitre firefly base you dont get to just walk away from that and live happily ever after. i strongly reccomend that if you have been spoiled and refuse to play the game give it a chance i wont say you will be happy since that is not the point of the game but its sets the tone for the third game which will be about redemption.… Expand

    Regarding the story... the game creators have said it best: The first game is about love, the second game is about hate. The first game was sad and violent, and ugly, but it was also heart-warming and beautiful. You see the world through the eyes of a washed-off man who learns to love again.

    This game is the complete opposite. It's designed to make you feel increasingly unease, to the point of regretting your own actions. You start strong and determined, only to get slowly and relentlessly invaded by doubt and quilt. At some point you might even feel that you would rather not carry on the actions that the game requires for the story to progress. In my book, that's a huge accomplishment. I feel that many of the people who criticize the choices they made on the story are missing this point.

Naughty Dog proves once again that they are one of the best games studios out there by providing us with an emotionally conflicting, nuanced narrative that pushes the limits of what/how games make us feel. Apart from the narrative achievement, the graphics, sound effects and gameplay mechanics are, as per usual Naughty Dog title, unparalleled. Bravo Naughty Dog, bravo!

Having to "walk a mile" for the character you truly hate has the purpose to really test the player's bias and morals. The ending did trigger many people- a plot of revenge doesn't end in revenge. But what about the first game? The plot of "saving humanity" didn't end in that. Plot and stories are different. Plot: finding the cure of humanity, story: relationship between Ellie and Joel. Plot: revenge, story: grief and forgiveness. If you walk away still wanting Abby dead, you may have completed the game but not with your soul. Yes this game is emotionally draining, but it reflects the sad truth about our reality- how unstructured and animal-like society would become in a world like this.… Expand

The story follows through from the first game, it's brutal, heartbreaking, complicated, at times fun and lighthearted but most of all it's really a story about obsession and revenge. Choices have consequenses and in this world, they're bloody. Hopefully the bracelet theory pans out and Ellie and Dina are together in the end. Ellie deserves a good ending besides finally letting Joel's death go. Overall one of the best games I've ever played and you can see all the hard work that went in to it. Top score.… Expand

By contrast, in Part I, the only characters that were truly developed were Joel and Ellie; while every other character felt like a random encounter.

    My only major issue with the game was the looting mechanic, which I felt was too monotonous, and a little detrimental to how otherwise immersive this game is.

    There's also one particular segment that I thought felt unintentionally ambiguous. Without having to spoil anything, I can just say that it had to do with reporting an address in Santa Barbara over the radio. Luckily, this was just one small misstep in otherwise perfect storytelling.

    I highly recommend that everyone who has any interest in this game play it through till the end. It will send you on an emotional roller coaster ride, so make sure you take brakes to recover, but it will be worth it in the end.    … Expand

E só.. o resto dos "amigos" dela, são no MÁXIMO colegas distantes, já que vocês não tiveram capacidade de mostrar o quão importante aquelas pessoas eram pra Abby... Atropelaram a história, ao invés de contar direito os fatos.. e fazendo isso, não deu tempo de sentir pena da Abby, que brutalmente ASSASSINOU covardemente o Joel no mesmo dia que o Joel salvou a vida dela.
    Essa história é uma sobrevivência, que mostra o quão injusto é esse mundo... Da próxima vez que forem alterar o sentido de uma franquia. Por favor avisem antes, pq assim eu não compro esse lixo..

I wish Joel’s death was handled better but I guess I am fine with it. But I loved Ellie’s revenge quest. Also, I loved Abby’s parts and I eventually began to like her. Their stories are very similar and you can see the parallels between them in the end. I hope we see more of Abby and Lev.… Expand

But is the game a 0 or a 1 for that? Hell no.. The visuals are one of THE most impresive ive ever seen. I cant belive it runs so well on a PS4 and its even more impresive on a PRO system. Sound and music is again one of THE best ive heard in a game. How the enemies communicate to each other is excellent. The clickers and the other infected are even more terifyin than the last game. Game play and the stealth is so damn fun and is a huge improvment from first game.

    The only flaw i have with the game is the pasing and the story. And im not that upset with Joels death not the way he died. Sure i wish he could live but not all stories have a happy ending. In not a huge fan of flashbacks in games thou. And this game has ALOT of them unfortanetly. Witch ruins the pasing and mess up the immersion. And yeah, some of the directions and events in the story is.. a Little wierd, but its still enjoyable.

    All and all its a damn fine game witch is really beatiful and fun to play with a story and pasing thats the only two things that hold it back a little.    … Expand

    One of the best games i have ever played. To rate it this low because you dont belive in the story makes no sense. There Can be no argument this is still a great story, gripping and tense. And the fact that ii can cause outrage like this just proves it’s a 10. They made all of you feel something. That is what gaming is about, even if That feeling is anger or sadness.

    Technically marvelous, visually genre-defying and emotionally hard-hitting, The Last of Us Part II is one of the best video game sequels of all time and manages to surpass its predecessor in every sense. You will not be the same player or even person after going through this ride.

    They're a few things that are of undeniable quality that seem to be lost in all the divisiveness of the story. This game is best in class when it comes to graphics, performance capture, and action set-piece moments. The environmental detail, sound, music, and animations are unbelievable. This game is also solid gameplay-wise and exceeded my expectations. You will die a lot, but because the scenarios play out differently and you have so much agency to try different things, it was not an issue. Thankfully checkpoints and loading are handled well. The game is not too long, IMO. The scenarios are different enough to not feel like anything is repeated. Do not rush the game. Take your time and take a break. The game is brutal and intense. The story does jump back in time, so you may want to see what is next instead. Be patient, it is worth the wait. I want to replay in new game + to have all the guns and upgrades. Something I never considered for LofUs. The argument is understandable that the first game has a better story. This game still impacted me emotionally by great performances as much as the first, while bringing the unforgettable music more to the forefront. Understand these characters are flawed and give in to the story they are telling. This is not an RPG. Regardless of how you feel about the narrative, this game is better in every other way.

    HERE ARE MY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PLAYING THE GAME. In settings, set supplies to auto-pickup and also consider enabling pointing you to the next objective by clicking the left stick. This is a resource game, so load all your weapons and have those at the ready before entering an encounter. It is like Witcher in that regard. Prepare and use everything at your disposal. If you are spotted that is okay. Improvisation in fights is what makes this game shine. Use the whole environment. You have a large space to work with, always be moving. If you have too much of a resource, craft item(s) immediately so you can pick up everything. Set auto-aim assist before knocking difficulty down to easy. But, I am kind of a bad shot. :-)    … Expand

    The gameplay, soundtrack, and graphics are a definite 10/10. Some creative decisions made are bold but I appreciate them all. Everyone at Naughty dog overworked themselves and were passionate in making this game, and you can clearly see that. Great fun, enjoyed it.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
