It's a good game with a okay story. Gameplay, character development, graphs were incredible. However the biggest flaw was the story, level design and passing.

The Last of Us is a very liner game so I didn't expect much of a sandbox open world game. But the second level of the game takes you in the begining of Settle riding on horse back. Seeing and visiting almost every building you see with a clear objective was incredible. However as the levels continue the map of the new area become smaller and smaller to the point of going back to the original game roots. This makes the game experience lacking compered to what they could of done vs what they actually did. The level designs ranges about 3 hours per new area you visit but is it fun and exciting. Yes you do have some areas you can visit but getting through each area are the same as the last one you entered. Either kill all the enemies or sneak by them. Rise and repeat for 5 more times. This process made the game longer to fit a big game title but for enjoyment that answer is no.
The story process by you playing as Ellie and after each brief you are awarded a flashback. These flashback are tells the time Ellie spend with Joal but provide very little in both gameplay and plo. After half of the came you play as Abby and again like Ellie after each you'll get a flashback or a new feature are dreams which just like the flashback provides almost nothing. Each flashback can be explained in the story by simpling having character talk to each other. In fact the whole story of revange can be resolved by having character talk it out with each other.
If you think the game is slow, taxing, and boring just wait for the ending. This game likes how it looks so much that it will linger on which several minutes has pass so you can enjoy it rather than playing the game. This creates an illusion that you are finished with this game, throw away some trash, use the restroom, get a snack and there's another scene apparently.
In short The Last of Us part 2 is a good game but not a Last of Us good game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was incredible and just short of a masterpiece. I expect this will be my game of the year and may even be second most memorable game of the generation behind RDR2. It did something no game has ever done, the character switch half way through made me so mad I thought I was going to quit. After not long I liked Abby and was back on board. This was not like MGS2 like many are comparing it to, Raiden played much differently. After the first fewer hours on the ship that game nver won me back.

My only complaints are that I felt like some of the traveling in Seattle was dragged out for too long and the disconnection between Abby and the WLF felt rushed. I cannot understand these low user scores, there's no way they played this incredible game.

I had no remorse for any deaths on this game. Would've loved to see more heartfelt moments like the museum scene. More singing with Ellie well! That scene with Dina was amazing. Expand

Prior to playing this game, I made sure not to read any articles about the leaks or listen to anyone else's opinion in an attempt to not taint or bias my experience of the game. It was difficult to evade all of the people talking about the game prior to the release but I managed it.

I genuinely thought this was the best action adventure video game I have ever played. Far superior to its predecessor. The story telling was mind blowing and the turn of events always had me guessing and took me by surprise. Needless to say, the world created by Naughty Dog was absolutely stunning.

The gameplay was smooth and I experienced no glitches in the mechanics. Dying was gruesome and the puzzles were rewarding. The enemies can be tough to beat (depending on the level of difficulty you play) but that makes it all the more exciting. The weaponry at your fingertips was really cool and allows you to play in many different ways.

This was a lesson on empathy. As a mental health academic and professional, one of the hardest things to explain to someone is how to be empathic. This game did that flawlessly. What you learn is that if you give someone a backstory then you suddenly feel for them and care for their humanity. All the differences between one another become futile in comparison to the insurmountable amount of commonalities that exist.

Overall: Breathtaking storytelling. How they can get you to hate somebody and then reverse your feelings and feel for them was a feat like no other. A great case study on empathy and literally puts you in each characters shoes.

Finally, I thought the inclusivity of a wide array of backgrounds was smooth and not forced into the story. In fact, I cannot see how the story would be so incredible had it not been for the unique experiences of each character.

I never wanted this game to end. Yes, it's not the most uplifting. But that's the point. I found myself fearing human enemies much more than I feared clickers and bloaters. We create our own misery sometimes.

Thank you Naughty Dog and everyone who worked on this game for creating such a magnificent piece of art and passing it on to the world. I hope you all know this was truly a sight to behold and your hard-work was worthwhile. I can't wait to see what you have coming up next.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bad plot!!! Character ruined other characters that are loved from the fans of the game! That’s not the story I was expecting from this game. The first game was epic and for the part 2 don’t satisfy my expectations Graphics!!!!!

That's the only good thing about this. Everything else is either mediocre or down right awful. The game play did not evolve one bit since the first game. It's still a walking simulator that's more a movie than a game, which would be enjoyable if it had a good story but God damn is it bad. The story simply broke my heart and not in the good way. It's like a spit in the face of the entire fan base. It's like the worst fan fiction you could possibly find. Seriously? It's full of plot holes and the characters you fell in love with in the first game are completely ruined and you are forced to play with the character that ruined them. I don't mind the woke stuff but when so much of it is obviously forced down your throat it feels like the entire game was built around it so if people don't like it you can pull the victim card and say that they are ists and phobes and whatever. And the director to preach so much about sexualising women in games is bad only than to put that Abby scene in the game? I can't unsee that. What were you thinking? Let me tell you a little secret game devs. People are playing games for entertainment and they'd rather see pretty things while doing it than ugl.. excuse me FUGLY ones! This is never going to change. How is sexualising men was never a problem? People don't like to be preached to and to be told what to think. In a video game setting, that choice should be always ours. Overall, I don't recommend this, especially if you were a fan of the previous one. maybe get it wen free from PlayStation plus

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I only review after I finished the game. Spoilers!

    PRO:
Graphic and physics in this game is amazing for PS4. The environment are good and sometimes better than RDR2.
Gameplay are better than last game. The stealth element, firearm, crafting etc...
Every cutscene is like watching high budget movie.
    Voice acting is top notch.

    CON:
    Random repetitive flashback over flashback.
    Storyline is a mess.
The new character Abby was poorly introduced. Yet you play her 50% of the game. That's like playing Star War game expecting to play Darth Vader or Luke but you ended up playing Jar Jar Binks for half of the game and expect you to empathize the character.
It destroy the whole dynamic why I love the first game.

    OTHER:
We also introduce great supporting characters like Jesse and Manny. You eventually get to know them but ended killing them off like nothing.
Lev is basically Mulan in a post apocalyptic world.

    Ending:
A lot of people are not satisfied with the ending that's because after going through everything it made the ending all for nothing. It felt like ending of Mass Effect 3. All that work meant nothing.

    CONCLUSION:
It's not a bad game. It's an okay game. Not worth the full price, but only because I wanted a sequel from the last game. Naughty Dog tried to gamble and it didn't work out.

Everyone who leaves a bad review of this game didn't get any of the themes that were presented.
Their poor ability to discern the bigger picture and the inability to connect and empathize with well written characters, left them hurt and unable to process their own feelings.

A score of a 5 and below is only merited when the game is fundamentally broken. This is game is a far far cry from any of that. It's a masterfully crafted cinematic masterpiece that you can interact with and again pushes the boundaries of the medium of video games farther into art.

Half of the morons that leaves these surface level reviews are mad about the "SJW agenda" naughty dog is "iNjEcTiNg iNtO My gAmEs" The other half couldn't get over Joel's death.

People bring up pacing a lot as their defense for hating this game while pacing a movie and pacing a game are entirely different things. They say that the game is a tired old revenge trope while all the endings and plot changes they suggest are literally the most cliched story tropes out there.

Main thing I want to say is that this game needs to be PLAYED by a critically thinking ADULT. It's an experience that needs to effect you. Without our initial connection to Joel and Ellie, it would NOT be possible to simulate trauma and put the player into Ellie shoes. Without Abby (whose gameplay parts are some of the best in all naughty dog games) We see Naughty Dog continuing on a grander theme of how in a world of brutality and survival no one can ever be completely ethically right. Joel in the eyes of many is a monster.
We don't value people when we consider them the enemy, we dehumanize people so that we can point the finger at them when things go to sh!t. The haters of this game act in the same way, blindly hating without realizing what the other side is like. They are angry over fictional characters that are being used to tell the bigger story of the world around them.

This game is amazing so don't listen to these rubes if you actually want to truly FEEL and EXPERIENCE something never before done in a video game.

I had been anxious about the second part of the last of us, and after the leak occured I stay away from any information related, cause I didnt wanted anyone ruining the experience. My expectation was high since the first game was a masterpiece, and just like uncharted I was expecting same as uncharted I was expecting more of the same formula with enhanced graphics, enemy AI, and a more expanded world to explore. That would be enough for me to love the game if the characters we loved had some missions to accomplish, and try to form a bond between joel and ellie like father, daughter. But no they had to do the fans wrong. They killed our favorite character, turn ellie into a unrecognizable person and have to make sure to push their sexual ideals and feminist beliefs onto the fans. Neil druckmann, really want to be accepted by the LGBT community, that he would go as far as to destroy and studio and his legacy. I hope he doesn't work crating for sony anymore. Stay away from this game if you haven't played. Just do what I did played the first game on ps3 a couple of times, and the remastered on the ps4 once, and I'm about to play it again soon, I want to remember ellie as that curious little girl with funny quotes, and smart remarks, and how she won Joel's feelings during their travel adventure. By the end of the story I feel this is the most emotional invested and intense I’ve ever felt in a video game.

If you have an open mind, can empathise with the different characters and realise that everyone (even unnamed NPCs) has a story in the violent, disgusting world, you can get something meaningful, thought provoking and powerful from the story.

Since finishing and reading into the outrage I really think it shows that these days it’s not worth getting involved in internet communities about very personal and opinion based media like this.

If you’ve spoiled the story already, I can understand not wanting to play, but if you haven’t yet, I encourage an open mind and really trying to think about the perspectives of each character. No one in this world is right, no one is wrong, just like the reviews for the game (other than trolls and bombers)

tl;dr: the visuals, accessibility, and artistic designs are the only thing holding up this game from it’s disappointing storyline, poor story development, lack of interesting characters, and many missed opportunities to explore intriguing lore just so you can be forced into a new and unwanted perspective from one of the most uninteresting characters in gaming.

Anyone who has played the first game and felt the bond growing between Joel and Ellie will agree that this is a slap in the face. Joel dies almost instantly, giving us nothing, Ellie is portrayed as "evil" while Abby (the girl that kills Joel) is portrayed as a saint and they try so hard to make us like her. She sucks. She killed Joel. No one wanted any of this and it's just frustrating. Oh and you have to play as Abby for the majority of the game. FFS. Just do yourself a favour, go buy TLOU - Remastered and enjoy the original story of a bond between two unlikely characters, and the growth of a beautiful relationship.

Also, Ellie doesn't even kill Abby at the end. Like what the ****?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I became a fan of the last of us back in year 2015. I was always a PC gamer but I knew that I have to play "The Last of Us" before dying. I bought my first console ever i.e. a PS3 and I played the game, i ended it and it spoke to me on levels which no other video game did. I connected to the game to the characters. To Joel, Ellie, Tess, Henry, His brother, Tommy and so many other beautiful characters.

I bought my first PS4 in the summer of 2016 and ended the game again. I still remember when I saw the first trailer for the The Last of Us Part II I had goosebumps all over my body and I was in a state of shock.

I was excited ever since the game's 1st trailer was shown in PSX 2016. I was so much excited to play this game.

Fast forward Friday night 19th June, 2020 I played the game and seeing Joel die was just so much painful. I was expecting that they will kill him off but I didn't expect he will die so badly. Seeing him dead made me really sad. I cried for a longtime and well I hated Abby.

Playing this game was one of the most complex and meaningful gaming experiences ever. The game affects you emotionally so much and teaches you the small things in your life which we all take for granted.

I admit playing with Abby even till the end I was so pissed that why the hell am I playing with this woman but going towards the end, everything made sense. I started bring the pieces together and connecting the dots.

What Joel did, it was justified to save Ellie but what Abby did to him was also justified. The game told me that "revenge" has no meaning in life, no matter how much we hate when someone wrong us, revenge is just never worth it.

First game told me that how even during the pandemic humans can be cruel and be animals to each other. But the 2nd part told me that it is up-to us to decide who we wanna be. To live and let others live too. Forgive and forget.

The ending broke me from inside out, even though Ellie forgave Abby at the end, but in her quest for revenge she lost Dina when she begged for her to stay. At the end she lost her too, the last piece of puzzle who could keep her happy or give her sanity.

When I ended this game I was so sad that I went to bed, hugged my wife and slept like a baby. The game tells us not to take the little things in our life for granted. Our parents, our wife/husband/spouse, children, job, lifestyle anything for granted.

it is very important to stay connected to your loved ones and cherish every moment till the very last breath.

I honestly recommend this game to everyone who owns a PlayStation 4. Don’t trust anybody else’s views or criticism. Play yourself and decide yourself.

Once again Naughty Dog, LLC does what it does best. Make games which are audacious, beautiful and empowering.

The last of us 2 makes huge improvements over the first games repetitive and sometimes dull gameplay, whilst having an incredibly well written and phenomenally acted story. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After being all in with the Last of Us Part I, I was more than ecstatic to hear about Part II even though it had been 7 years since I played the PS3 version. Seeing Joel connect with Ellie in a way that only a father figure can, it allowed me to see the relationship I have with my daughter and how it could possibly play out in my life if the same events were to happen. I loved Part 1, but as I began to play Part II, that feeling of Nostalgia and the longing to see the growth of Joel and Ellie’s relationship was cut short and I felt as if I was thrust into a big budget Liam Neeson movie with terrible a script and horrible writers. I could not get involved in the story at all. I still played through the game in its entirety, but I didn’t feel a wanting for more. I am just glad I was done. Shame on you Naughty Dog for attempting to ride the political wave to cash in on real issues. This game sucks as beautiful as it is and if Part III is released I probably won’t be getting it. Expand

I loved the first Last of Us (and all the Uncharted games), so I knew that Naughty Dog was capable of publishing excellent games with good to great character stories intertwined. I pre-ordered TLOU2 a few days before it was to be released, and vaguely heard some of the controversy for the first time, but did not seek out any spoilers...and had no idea what I was in for (and nor did I want to know). I figure people that have worked on a story for 5+ years, probably deserve to have the entire store told by THEM, not some spoilsport tw*t on the internet...

So I avoided all spoilers until the game was preloaded on my PS4 Pro...and spent the next 5 evenings playing it completely through...AND...I actually played this game through to the very ending credits before I decided how I felt about it all...

I'm not sure if this review will resonate with the seemingly binary extremists that appear to comprise most the the "users" on this site...but for those of you that prefer to think beyond the hate-spasms of pre-pubescent emotionally crippled plebs...read on.

Before I react to the story which seems to dominate 90% of the reasoning behind most of these reviews, I do want to talk about the game mechanics and design. For me, a
AAA game's mechanics, interface, graphics and sound design are worth about 6 points out of the 10. And I have to give Naughty Dog 6 points here. The graphics, world design, music, atmospheric sound...all were just FLAWLESS. I thought the game mechanics and controls were near flawless...I rarely felt like the controls were unfair or caused me to lose a fight. I really enjoyed always worrying about not quite having enough materials...and it really encouraged me to look through everything in every corner for the extra alcohol or extra bullet. I enjoyed how running low or empty on one weapon's ammo meant I just had to change up my playstyle completely...it forced me to think laterally and out of the box and really made the survival much more tense. The enemy AI was scary (especially on the hardest level), but the companion AI was sometimes lame...I wish companions were more realistically visible to enemies and/or stayed out of sight so it didn't break immersion when enemies couldn't see them standing in front of them. I also wish the puzzles were a bit more thought-provoking and challenging. Overall, this game world looked and felt great!

    Now for the story...
As a fan of most post-apocalyptic stories, I think it's crazy that many of the dissenting fans of Part 2 somehow believed that their beloved characters were all going to live in the sequel. Have we learned nothing? The cordyceps infected world is a nasty one...rife with destruction, death, violence, and misery. Did we somehow think that a GAME set in a world where nearly everyone has either been killed, turned into mushroom monsters, or become part of a nihilistic militaristic cult...was going to feature Joel and Ellie dancing through sunshine soaked fields singing Kumbaya? Jesus, that's dumb.

The original game came out what, 7 years ago?...that means fans of the original are supposed to have MATURED SEVEN FREAKING YEARS...and somehow, some of these so called fans of the original game have, because one of their VIDEO GAME characters got killed...have debased themselves to sending hateful, misogynistic, anti-semitic, death threats to freaking VOICE ACTORS, as well as story directors and video game developers? OMG.

It's a "zombie" game set in a fictitious world for god's sake! CHARACTERS, which aren't real in case you forgot, are gonna die. It creates drama, which apparently you guys all love! I liked Joel as much as anyone, but come on...he's no angel! Maybe you remember the first game...in which JOEL and Ellie slaughtered their way all the way to Salt Lake City, literally leaving a trail of their murder victims behind them. Yes, I still liked their characters...but let's call a spade a spade...they killed a ton of people...ultimately for NO REASON. They killed sons and brothers and husbands and yes...even dads.

Killing people has consequences no matter how good your intentions or how "justified" your revenge may seem. And as much as I didn't like Abby at first, being forced to play as her was bold...and for ME...as an emotionally mature adult, was truly moving. I went from not liking Abby at all, to practically crying in the end, for BOTH Abby and Ellie...having lived through both their pain and having seen how all their hate and anger only led to the death of even more people they loved. I cried, and I cheered when Ellie finally understood (just as Abby had with Lev's help earlier)...the only way forward is to to let go. I'm a 40 year old man, and the ending made me cry. Not all stories can give us what we want! That's not life! Sometimes we get what we need...

I took so many screenshots with the games photo-mode, which has a lot of interesting things to play around with and you can easily spend hours of the game on it. With photo-mode you realise just how deep the detail in the game is. Also has amazing sound design and soundtrack. The zombies just look amazing like in the first, with some subtle redisgns and improvements from the first. Cutscenes look amazing, you can see the idividual features on peoples faces, scars, sweat, ect. Visuals in video games are as important as cinematography in films. People like to treat this as a side point, but video games are a visual medium. I could go on about how amazing the visuals are for a long time.
I love stealth games and this one is very solid. Levels are large with several parts and approaches. Enemies behave like actual human beings, constantly looking around them, making them more challenging to avoid and encounter (very different from the usual robotic behaviour of enemies in stealth games). Stealth take-downs are brutal, with characters choking, slitting throat, ect. You have a lot of tools to play around with, you can plant mines, unleash the infected on your enemies, use explosive arrows. It certainly isn't the greatest stealth game ever made by any means, but it is miles above what I expected. It had so many tense situations, with creative mechanics like dogs sniffing your scent. The human and infected enemy types are greatly improved over the first and behave in more organic, life like ways.
The combat is pretty tense, enemies go around, flank, ect. So many tense firefights in this one, like one time I was pinned by a sniper and prone on the ground and all the enemies stormed into the room at once and I had to shoot them while lying on my back, it was like a scene out of a film. I really enjoyed the game-play overall, interesting AI kept the stealth and combat situations interesting. The gameplay is similair to the first, but it's just so much better. I love the brutality of the visuals and the fighting, I was afraid that they might tone down on the violence but this one ramps it up. It certainly isn't the greatest stealth/shooter ever made, but it's very solid and several moments of the game that felt like they were scripted were completely organic. It feels like a film, similar to the first one. The visuals and game-play are top notch. The levels had tonnes of cool little details in them too, like how one area you go through is an abandoned library and has a kids section with tonnes of paintings on the wall.

I loved the story in this one as well and the entire cast of characters were well written and voice acted. I love how a major theme in the first game is luck, Joel and Ellie survive primarily because of luck alone. As Joel says luck runs out, the first game foreshadowed an event like Joel running into Abby, he got unlucky and payed the price for his actions in the first game. I love his death scene, it's like he knew the day was coming, when his luck would run out and his past would catch up with him. Similair to the line in the first game 'no matter how hard you try, you can't escape your past' and 'your luck runs out', his death reflects both those major themes from the first game.
I love that the story, like the first one, doesn't take sides. Joel is an anti-hero who killed a lot of people to save his 'daughter'. Although to Abby he was a villain, its a story thats open to interpretation, without the game ever pushing you one way or the other. It can be argued that Abby is the villain, she brutally murders Joel. However, Joel arguably destroys the chance of a cure to save his daughter, who he can't bare to lose a second time. The line where Ellie calls Joel an 'old fossil' is a nod to Sarah's birthday card to Joel and Joel taking her to a museum shows that she has become a surrogate daughter to him, who he adopted as a replacement for Sarah. Perhaps then Joel is selfish, he acts against Ellie's wishes and we clearly see that he uses her as a replacement daughter. I'm about to run the word count but I love the story cause it's morally complex and open to interpretation. Abby kills and tortures, so does Joel and Ellie, they do what they have to to survive. All three protagonists act in selfish ways, these are possibly the only good examples of well written anti-hero protagonists I can think of in videogames. You can interpret Abby/Joel/Ellie as a villain or as a hero and that's why I love it. Abby isn't a cartoon evil villain, you see she has compassion and care for other human beings, just like Joel and Ellie. To her Joel is an evil man who ruins her world. I empathise with her just as much as Joel and Ellie in the first. WORDCOUNT HIT :(

That the last of us 2 has done very well because what he wants to convey is that killing is something that in video games you do not stop to think about and that what I like about the last of us 2 that what he does to you is in reflect on what you have done

Awesome graphics. Game play slow at times. Still an awesome game. Don’t know why it’s getting **** on. Story could have been arranged a little better. I do not regret buying this game. Naughty dog did a great job again. So all the haters can suck it.

    Spoiler free:
The internet gaming community judged this game in a bubble. They took a few scenes, labeled it some SJW/WOKE bull and left it at that.
You cannot judge a movie based off of a couple of scenes or a trailer, and you cannot judge a game based on that same metric. Everything you have seen or read about the spoilers is based around just 2 or 3 scenes in this game, and that is

You cannot judge a movie based off of a couple of scenes or a trailer, and you cannot judge a game based on that same metric.
Everything you have seen or read about the spoilers is based around just 2 or 3 scenes in this game, and that is completely unfair to the writing of the entire game.
If you think it's SJW, it's not. If you think it's "woke", it's not. The game's writing has absolutely nothing to do with that.
Are you OK with Ellie being a lesbian after the first game? Then you'll be fine with the writing in this game.
You're wrong to judge if you think that it's anything more than that. There is no LGBT agenda. There's no agenda to speak of.
You need to see this story through to properly judge, and a few thousand gamers from the internet community being upset with a couple of out of context leaks should not stop you from enjoying what is frankly one of the most emotionally complex and deep games ever made.
I do not hesitate to call this one of the greatest entertainment products in history.
It is a masterpiece that must be experienced.

I am just so disappointed. It's one thing to watch a movie you aren't enjoying, its another to play it. Such a waste of talent on so many levels. In general I just don't really care about another future title.

IMO the story isn't as bad as they say, its just that the pacing made it exhausting to play. The gameplay was fantastic though. Greatly improved fromthe firstgame. Animations for the characters' actions and transitions were smooth as heck.

I lean on the conservative side of things in my personal life. Hollywood and social media has ruined so many different art forms for me that I am weary of any entertainment purchase I make. That being said, I don't see the game as trying to push a political agenda so far. I see this game as trying to get me to look and think about the story from different perspectives. The one constant is that human beings are imperfect creatures capable of terrible thoughts and actions. They are also capable of great acts of goodwill and sacrifice.

Update: I now have finished the game and stand by the score. The game is not perfect. I think the biggest problem for me is that the order of story components feels jumbled and impacts the pacing and opinion of the characters. I think it would have been better to set it up to have the player warm up to the new characters more instead of trying to patronizingly sell it to the player after the fact. It is a lot of effort by the writers and director with little reward. That being said, the gameplay and atmosphere and settings are all amazing so that I am left with a memorable experience.

Just one other comment that I feel the negative visceral reaction to the game is so disappointing. I think it reflects a large swath of the younger generations that feel they have no purpose and have not developed an ability to see the bigger picture in their lives. Just like the savages that are tearing down statues and rioting, a lack of purpose can lead to depression, anger and resentment. I guess it is better to have an emotional person review-bomb a game rather than set a store on fire though.

By the end of the game I didn't feel a great need to cry, but I did feel a great deal of shame and disappointment. Disappointment that Ellie would be too slow to learn forgiveness. Disappointment in yet another mainstream video game's gay romance leading to ruin. Disappointment in myself for expecting anything other than a nihilistic revenge fantasy.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
