Stop ruining game narratives to include your political agenda. The new director made some poor choices with who he consulted for this game.

I've never written a review in the past, but I feel obligated to land my two cents after witnessing the completely unreasonable review-bombing of the game.

    Gameplay
It's more or less the same gameplay as in the first game, only refined. It's simple, very fluent, easy to learn yet appropriately hard to fully master. While simple in form, the level design and combat mechanics also give much lenience in terms of "choosing your way". You'll always be having several options in how you deal with a scene or a challenge, be it through brute force, stealth, escape or a fine mix. This perspective on the gameplay is of course subjective, and as with the first game many will likely find the game's combat mechanics a little too simple. It is also worth noting how the gameplay translates very well into almost every cutscene, leaving the player with a stunning cinematic experience.

    Graphics
There's not much to be said in regard to the graphics. A game can't possibly become any better than this on the PS4. The world is masterfully crafted, runs surprisingly smoothly and leaves the players to discover and take in the scenery through very flexible camera controls. The character animation is also stunning, and even the faces of your enemies are carefully put together to portray brutal emotions in face of death. Hands down the most beautiful game I have experienced, and one that will forever represent the peak of PS4's capacity.

    Story
The story is the game's most contested aspect, and the reason for that is in my opinion rather clear cut: the game really demands a lot of its player. I'm convinced one needs to approach this game with an open mind to be struck and absorbed by the story that is served. For it is served, just as in the first game. Aside from choosing one's way to go about or around the many combat encounters, there's no true player agency to speak of. That means that one must be open to the direction the story invites to, or risk playing the game in opposition to its very premise. If you aren't able to alter and adjust your perspective in accordance with the shifts of the story, you'll likely find yourself judging the game hollow and unattuned. Is that a fault of the game however? I argue that it is not, for it clearly is an intended challenge to be overcome by the player.

Naughty Dog asks of the player to step into the the others' shoes. Without being open to this the game is bound to fall short, and for a game studio to willingly accept that is puzzling to me. It really rises the bar of what a game can be. It stands as a meta-challenge beyond anything gaming has provided in the past. The Last of Us Part II goes beyond puzzles, levels and combat encounters to challenge its players - it aims at mind and soul, and bids you to dive into uncomfortable emotional depths in a way never before explored. It will not be everyone's cup of tea, and many will not accept the challenge that is invited to, but those who do will be left puzzled and with lasting impressions. The music and soundwork helps elevate the story's impacts and the world itself in a beautiful, if not perfect way.

In the end I loved it, and am still feeling it.

This game is phenomenal in many ways, for starters the approach to this game is both unique and is bound to be revolutionary for future story-driven games. Gameplay-wise this tops the first game in all aspects, providing an immersive experience to this post apocalyptic world, with new stages of infection introduced. Graphics-wise this game is unanimously praised, and for good reason, the attention to detail surpasses anything I’ve ever seen before, but we couldn’t really expect any less from Naughty Dog. The acting and music should also be praised for it is all flawless, much like the original instalment of the series. Now to the controversial part - the story: [SPOILERS]

I do believe this game has perfectly depicted a revenge tale, but to say this game is “revenge is bad” is completely reductive to what this game truly means. There is a difference between plot and story, take Part 1 for example: Plot - finding a vaccine for the zombie apocalypse

Story: Joel learning to open up again to a girl he’s just met, who reminds him of his dead daughter. We can easily simplify the first game, much like we can easily simplify the sequel. The plot for Part 2 is indeed revenge, however the story is inevitably Ellie learning to forgive Joel for his actions in the first game, which concludes this arc at the end once she lets Abby go. As controversial as the ending is, it makes sense from a narrative standpoint. Abby essentially represents Joel’s physical torture, while Ellie represented Joel’s emotional torture, as for years she avoided him after learning the truth. After gaining the upper hand on a weakened Abby, Ellie, for the first time since her revenge quest started, sees a peaceful Joel. He’s not dead, and it’s not of him breaking the news to Ellie, as this flashback was about forgiveness. Through letting Abby go, Ellie was letting go of all the emotional torture she made Joel go through, she was forgiving him, she was letting Joel’s repercussions go. It is clear that revenge did nothing for Abby, as she continued to have nightmares of her dad after killing Joel. With this we can gather that Ellie’s PTSD wouldn’t have ended subsequent to killing Abby, so the only way for her to move forward was for her to let Abby go. My issues: The way Joel was lead up to dying wasn’t necessarily in character. From the first game Joel was depicted as a hardened survivor, a survivor who could tell if someone was faking needing help. In the second game a lot of people have an issue with Joel and Tommy giving away their names to Abby and her gang. My only way to justify this would be that Tommy was likely trying to recruit more people, so he’d see this as a catch, and Joel had softened up in the past four years. This past 4 years have been vitally important to Joel’s growth, as this is likely the safest he’s ever felt, not to mention the literal day prior to this, Ellie had finally opened up to Joel, finally being willing to try forgive him. So after this, he’s bound to be more hopeful and potentially let his guard down upon meeting a girl of similar age to Ellie. The argument that Tommy was out of character, however, is obnoxious. By the end of the game, Tommy had seen Jesse die, Dina and Ellie beaten to near death, Tommy himself was shot in the damn eye, crippling him and making him half blind. After all this he no longer wants revenge on Abby for Joel, he wants it for himself. This lead to his obsession leading to a separation between Maria and himself, and Tommy having an outburst at Ellie, the last chance he had at revenge, opting out for the quest against Abby. Aside from the way Joel died, I found the pacing could’ve been handled better, as I think jumping from playing as Ellie for 10 hours to Abby for 10 hours straight to be polarising to some fans, initially at least. Had they switched stories after every 1 day in Seattle I think it could’ve been more effective, but I understand why they took the approach they did. Ultimately I’m satisfied with the game we got, and I’d say it justifies its existence to continue the story of Part 1. It’s not a 10/10 perfect game, but it’s basically a masterpiece.

Everything is perfect: the gameplay, visuals, acting, graphics, and combat. A Naughty Dog game most important aspect is the story and this game’s story is so bad, it hurts my stomach just to think about it. Neil and ND lied to us saying this game was about Joel and Ellie, false marketing and fake trailer.

He (Joel) had A Thing that he didn't like people, He didn't trust people. So why would he go "I'm Joel" Like we lost that character. I think if Ellie would have walked in and say "Hey Joel who are your friends?" Or something like that, then maybe people would look at it differently. Like picture this.

Ellie finds Joel and says "Hey... Who are your new friends Joel?" in a laughing tone. Then they same thing happened. Sept they Hold Ellie down... Then actually shoot Joel, Instead of torturing him. Then sure Ellie would have gotten revenge. (KINDA LIKE THE GAME) Sept the ending is different.

She actually stabs, Abby (The most hated game character) Then Ellie would take care of the kid (for d.l.c if they did that) Then Ellie trains that kid to be better than Ellie, Ellie would train Lev to be better than Abby/Ellie. Sure the kid would see Abby dead (He'd wake up) But he would have Learned that's Life, BECAUSE After Ellie saw Joel die she learned. That's a part of life and You have to live with that. That would have been a better ending, that's just me tho. Then after that they work on a part 3. Pretty **** simple.

If you play like me, this is an excellent stealth game. You can stalk your prey by keeping under cover, hiding in grasses, and misdirection. When ready to strike, I like arrows and knives. You don't have to play like me though. If you prefer a more formal assault you have a wide selection of guns, smoke bombs, mines, explosive ammo. The game isn't just fighting, it is character interaction. As with any Naughty Dog game, you spent a good chunk of it playing with an NPC partner. Your partner isn't an obstacle in the way, they actively help you take down the infected or other enemies. The contextual conversations that take place enrich the experience and often flow seamlessly in and out of perfectly acted cut scenes.

The environments are simply beautiful. The forests are alive, the rivers and ocean are foreboding and the streets are believable result of decades of disuse. I loved this game. 10 / 10.

I wouldn’t be surprised if naughty dog makes a DLC that has a different ending for the people that can’t stand how life isn’t fair.

This game gave me a unique experience that wouldn't be possible in any other media.
It keeps questioning your actions and what you would do in that situation. It's a game about people and how they behave and extreme situations.

Joel dying and the ending are fine, that isnt the issue. The fact that Abby is a good chunk of the game is annoying and like i said, it feels like a waste. Also, trying to force the player to empathise with Abby by playing as her for so long just makes us hate her and the devs more. It completely takes away player control... just like when we were forced to watch Joel's murder through the eyes of a helpless Ellie. Playing as Abby strips the player of any agency in the whole bloody sh*tsh*w of a game. We just take a backseat as boring, forgettable characters die like flies. When the game forces us to make morally reprehensible contributions to these characters deaths, it then delights in chastising us later because ReVeNgE iS bAd. The other main feature of TLOU2 is love triangles that don't add anything to the game. The sheer amount of focus given to these in the game's narrative feels out of place against the backdrop of an apocalypse, especially given neither is concluded before - you guessed it - one or more constituents of those pathetic triangles are killed. Throw all of this together with a convoluted and anti climatic ending, and you have TLOU2. Expand

They are the most breath taking graphics to come out of the current Gen Consoles, period. From close up details to explanding the wilderness, every level is handcrafted to look like a masterpiece that shouldnt be possible on the console. The fact that they learned how to get rid of loading for the most part is a testament to their hard work & knowledge of the system. Nothing looks like a a repeating texture. All buildings & wilderness looks unique. The scale of each building, & environment is a site to behold & helps provide the illusion of really being there in the world. Every shot is cinematically done. The lighting is mouthwatering. The models are incredibly detailed. The animations are realistic & gritty & often make one feel they're watching a movie. The particle effects for water during a rain storm, thunder storm, a river, lake with air bubbles as you jump into it, ocean as you try not to drown is amazing!
    Sound:
Every weapon action & firing, rain as it hits each object whether your inside a building or not, underwater, step on a piece of glass, people holding a conversation, all was done at AAA movie quality. Music hits when needed. It's basically an audiophiles wet dream. The fact that you can crack a safe by sound alone if you don't know the combination is an fantastic touch I didn't know I wanted. Just going through the game & turning something like a person whistling into one of the most terrifying sounds to hear, into you terrifying the whistlers into speaking is fantastic.
    Gameplay:(spoilers)
It's a technical leap from the first game. More fluid movement, added ability to jump, new melee weapons & guns with the ability to upgrade them is fun. You can also upgrade yourself to help provide an edge to specialize in the play style you enjoy. Everything for the most part is great - the AI partner's intelligence. They stupidly decide to get right behind you when they've been 20 paces from you the entire fight! Switching between time/characters can negatively effect the games fun factor. If you poorly decide to cut from the MC to bad guy to show their motivations when they might kill the MC, you don't care about what their motives are. It was hours into the bad guy's gameplay before I enjoyed anything. I questioned why I was still playing. Half the game was ruined because I couldn't move on not knowing if 2 characters were killed or not? I kept letting Abby die hoping to get back to Ellie. Anytime I took a picture of something impressive in the game despite being annoyed, I Hid Abby out of all pictures. The Bridge scene to go to a hospital & how high up they were to reach another building, was the first time I thought “Wow. Wouldn't be me.” Then I thought about making her jump to commit suicide. What makes this worst, is I don't just play through a game, but look around at every detail I can & sometimes see if the world breaks. This adds hours to my game. I might spend an hr staring at an alley & admiring the work that went into it. So for me, the game felt way too long, seeing how I was playing a character I hated.
    Story: (Spoilers)
I understood why Abby's actions were done, but it doesn't mean I accepted it. The fact that Joel went out without having an epic fight & just took it VS Tommy's fight where he went into the ocean like a Boss? That is what I expected for Joel! It could have been more acceptable & believable. It rang hallow. Joel didn't get a great final chapter, but went out choking on a pretzel on the john. He went out like a chump. Every part with Abby until I knew Ellie & Tommy were alive was an annoyance. I didn't know if the kid was male or female. The said he, but later he was to be some old person's wife? The “boy” was played by an actress, so it was all kinds of confusing.
The bouncing back & forth/time/place/who, I found more annoying than a little bit. Then the dream sequences were pointless. Again, anything as Abby I felt was a waste of time until Ellie & Tommy's fate were clear. Abby was a filler section I didn't want/ask for. If Neil had shown that they survived the encounter, then switched over to Abby & gave us her backstory. It would have made it possible to enjoy the sections containing her. By the end of the game, I just felt frustration. All sides didn't know what they were fighting for. All were hypocrites. The world was burning with anger.
It's a mixed bag. Not gameplay wise. That was dang near perfect. The story angered me. Parts needed better execution. Ellie's immunity didn't count for anything.Thinking about what i played, It's an emotional rollercoaster filled with people making bad decisions and living with them. Dina and Jesse were forgettable & didnt make sense. Abby wasn't likeable. The whole game was how Ellie is bad, Abby good, but Abby wasnt. No talk about regrets killing Joel after he saved her life. I paid for the game. I'd recommend getting it on sale if yr on the fence.

There are facets of the game that further support this idea i.e giving the player no agency in morally reprehensible or bankrupt decisions; this comes off as trying to convince the player that this is “the dark hatred game” which is incredibly annoying. When a game makes as much effort as possible to remove the player’s ability to formulate opinions and make choices throughout the playthrough, the game is not engaging and intriguing to the player, it is annoying and dismissive. By force feeding us, you are treating us as if we are incapable of dissecting and interpreting the game ourselves, which is infuriating, and to that end it becomes easy to see that the game solely exists to sell us something (N**l **ckmann’s agenda). The narrative is messy. The game is burdened by uninteresting new characters. Almost every character in the game feels like an inhuman caricature of what a person is supposed to be like. The main characters are so artificial that they can hardly be taken seriously, which discredits the story. The cutscenes are extremely overly gratuitous (both in violence and in sexuality), to the point that it’s offensive. Several sections of the game seem to severely overstay their welcome. The gameplay itself is more varied than that of its predecessor, but this one positive is marred by the fact that the game is simpler and easier than its predecessor, contributing to the fact that the game is flat out boring in some parts. After playing The Last of Us Part II, it’s clear to see that N**l **ckmann hated J**l, and hated the original game, as this game desperately tried to alienate itself from its predecessor, while trying ever so hard to create a new and different identity for itself. Unfortunately, The Last of Us Part II will only be remembered as a loud and ugly failure. I feel sorry for the those who fell in love with The Last of Us in 2013, who waited 7 years only to be so incredibly disappointed and aggressively disrespected. I feel sorry for the developers who had no say in the game’s direction, who knew full well that the game they were working tirelessly on would be received poorly. People hate this game for a reason, and paying for positive reviews from game critics, while simultaneously removing negative reviews from actual players will only make people’s opinions on this game worse. The Last of Us Part Two review:

I have to say, I’ve played through the entire storyline and as of this review I plan to do a second play through of the game.

The game takes place a couple of years after The Last of Us 1 and moves forward with Ellie and Abby through their quest of bloody revenge and tears. Starting off with graphics I have to say this game is by far one of the best, prettiest, jaw dropping games I’ve ever played! And I’m not kidding- from the nature to the snow to the beaches to abandoned cities, you’ll appreciate every detail that you see.
Overall I have to say that I very much loved the graphics of this game and if you plan on picking it up, man oh man you should definitely pick up a headset too.

The audio is so damn good in this game! The sounds of the infected really got my heart racing. Hearing a zombie in a dark room or having someone set off a bomb sounds oh so good! The audio is such a masterpiece! The soundtrack? Man does it immerse you and have you feeling like you’re in the scene. From being chased down by your enemies; locked in a room with the zombies; or just enjoying a nice hike through the nature trails, the audio is so beautiful and vibrant and I just have to say thank you Naughty Dog for that. But I can’t say that for combat, especially in certain areas. The game seems to be a stealth type but sometimes forces you to do hand-to-hand andor full on face-to-face combat, which I love. It is sometimes odd and did throw me off and frustrate me a bit. Gun play is a little odd and can sometimes be annoying just like hand to hand combat. I found this to especially be true with the bow. There were times I would make a perfect head shot but end up only alerting the enemy. Very annoying. I feel like the aiming mechanic was a little rusty and could have been worked on a little bit longer. Playing hide and go seek with your enemies is sometimes frustrating as well, especially if you’re not quick on your toes (I can be the slow type, myself). Hand to hand combat sounds pretty rough in a post apocalyptic game and you get that here. Hand to hand combat or using a blunt or sharp object to kill your enemies is quite awesome; seeing you literally beat the person down seems so realistic. Not to sound like a psycho or anything! I just appreciate what they did there and I feel like they worked on that a lot more than the gun play. Overall, the stuff in the game is quite the same as the first game.

Quick little sidenote: Character development here is a thing and I appreciate that. I’ve seen that some people find issue with it, but I give them an A for effort!

The Last of Us Part Two is a pretty lengthy game that offers two sides of the story instead of one. Not a lot of games do that these days. You’ll go on a long adventure with long cut scenes and some annoying decisions but overall this game shows you how dark and cruel this world can be, but at the same time, beautiful. The Last of Us Part Two is a masterpiece by far and I have to say that I will be playing this game again and again through the years to come. I will not forget about it. I highly recommend people pick this up and play it and if you’re skeptical on it wait for a deal to hit the game. But for me, it’s a game that is worth a full $65. I cannot wait for any DLC that might hit in the future. I just want to say to Naughty Dog that I very much appreciate everything that you’ve done and to all of the teams that worked on this game I appreciate everything that you’ve done as well. You have truly made a masterpiece and it will always stay close to my heart. Thank you so much Naughty Dog and keep up the good work. Much love!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is disappointing to say the least. After seven years, we, the players, were expecting an epic tale surpassing the first game in both storytelling and gameplay. While the gameplay is smooth, intense, and even fun, the story doesn’t even compare to the first one. Even though I entered the game with high hopes and wes, I can honestly say that TLOU2 isn’t THAT bad of a game. I finished the game in two days, playing the first eighteen or so hours in one sitting. Despite the pacing being slightly off, the first ten hours where you play as Ellie are amazing. I found myself constantly wondering what would happen next and genuinely enjoying the gameplay. I felt things I’ve never felt before while playing a video game. For example, on the way to the aquarium, I was overcome with a sense of dread and panic. I found myself having to pause the game to gather my emotions a lot. When I first read the reviews that said that the violence was overwhelming and would genuinely make you sick, I was reluctant to believe that it would effect me the way that it did. When Ellie killed Mel without knowing she was pregnant, (and the entire time I knew that she was), I was sick to my stomach. Seeing Ellie react the way she did made it even worse. A few other reviews have said that the way Ellie reacted after killing Nora was unrealistic, considering that she had killed many other people before her, but her reaction was genuine to me. That was the first time that she had killed someone without them fighting back. The first time she had truly tortured someone. This is the first time she is met with one of the consequences of her actions. With all of these things considered, the first act is probably my favorite. Now, the second act is one of the most controversial video games acts I’ve ever heard spoken about. If I’m being honest, I’m still gathering my true thoughts about this part. The gameplay? Truly, Abby’s gameplay was fun and intense, but felt jumbled together without a true purpose. It also felt too long and drawn out. I understand what Naughty Dog was trying to do. Make us empathize with Abby and make us understand her pain and actions. This wasn’t as successful as they wanted. Of course, Abby was a good character and she had depth, but whenever I started to like her, I remembered that she tortured Joel to death. Look, we all knew that Joel was gonna die. The moment he killed all those fireflies, he signed his death certificate. For him to be tortured to death by Abby? I don’t think he deserved that. It’s not like he made her father suffer. He made it as quick as he could. He didn’t even want to kill him, her father got in his way so Joel eliminated him. For Abby to go out of her way to find Joel, travel to Wyoming, torture and kill him in front of his adopted daughter and not expect any repercussions? Well, that was incredibly stupid of her. The entire game Ellie was punished for wanting to seek revenge, but Abby wasn’t. You could argue that Abby’s friends died, but even then, it’s not like she was left alone. Abby had Lev to keep her company. A quick side note, I’m happy that a character like Lev was put into the game. It’s good to see representation in such a mainstream video game, even if it is this type of game. Anyway, for Abby to have killed Jesse, and to have almost killed Ellie, Dina, and Tommy, she deserved worse than what she got. Ellie was consumed with the idea of revenge and in the end, it destroys what was good in her life. She thought that once Abby was dead, the flashbacks, the nightmares, the PTSD from Joel’s death would disappear. In the final act of the game, before Ellie can actually kill Abby, her last memory of Joel, a promise to try to forgive him and mend their relationship, stops her from finishing the job. She realizes that Joel wouldn’t have wanted her to let this idea control her life, and she finally ends the cycle of revenge. Thus, allowing Abby and Lev to escape the Rattlers and make the trip to Catalina Island, where the last of the Fireflies have regrouped. Ellie, unable to play guitar, AKA the only thing she had left of Joel, returns to her home to find Dina and JJ gone. My question is, why does Abby, who never once showed remorse for killing Joel or ruining Ellie, get to have a happy ending, while Ellie, who showed remorse and even spared Abby in the end, get punished and left with nothing? Even after all of this, I still don’t think it’s a bad game. Visually, it’s a masterpiece. It’s the prettiest game I’ve ever played. Gameplay wise, it’s fantastic. The storytelling just doesn’t live up to the first one. Is it as bad as everyone is making it out to be? No, not at all. Is it worthy of GOTY? No, not even close. I do hope to see a DLC, maybe not an entire third game, but some sort of a continuation of the story. Even without anything, I’m excited to see what Naughty Dog does next. Expand

It's like "Joker" movie (not the best comparison but yea..) -- some people love it some hate it some think it's overrated some thinks it's way too detached from original franchise & wouldn't it be better if they make it as brand new standalone piece etc etc etc. No matter what, TLOU2 is a game that has a great impact in the gaming community and it's here to stay. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. “Boo Hoo the story is weak, let’s go insult the actress playing Abby and Neil for directing the game!!1”
Just considering the graphics, gameplay, soundtrack and motion capture this game is no way getting less than 8/10.

About the story.. What did you expect? That Joel would have continued to live like nothing had happened in Salt Lake? One day or another someone would had shown up seeking for revenge. “But Joel was too skilled and smart, he would have trusted Abby!1!” She is the age on Ellie and he saved her ass from being eaten by the infects, in the middle of a blizzard. Falling in an ambush was the last of his thoughts. Then he realized. It was too late. He knew that the moment had finally come. Do you think that I enjoyed this choice? Of course not, goddammit! It broke my heart. But his death had a sense in the context of the story. It wasn’t random like getting bitten by a clicker of slipping and falling from a cliff. The way he was killed... Only a sadist would have done something like that. Or someone who has been waiting for that moment for a long time. You live the scene with the eyes of Ellie, feel her emotions, feel the need of revenge flowing in your veins.

The game goes on and Ellie finds Nora. She’s trapped in an angle, unable to fight, unable to betray her friend. And our protagonist murders her. Was it necessary? What was going on in Ellie’s mind? She’s shocked, her hands shaking. That didn’t make her feel better.

The cycle continues and she gets to Owen and Mel. I don’t think that in this case Ellie would have killed them but Owen tries to counter attack (I mean, he had a gun pointed at him, that’s reasonable) and in self defense she kills them both. Mel was pregnant though. That was really **** up, the image of Dina bumps in front of Ellie’s eyes. She’s getting nauseous, unable to recognize herself no more. What goes around, comes around and Abby finds her way to the theatre. Boom, Jesse is gone, Tommy is about to make his brother’s end and you as the player are leaning toward the screen with the heart stomping in your chest. All the tension that had built up in the last hours is getting to the apex.

And then Mr. Druckmann press the rewind button. You are now playing as Abby. What?! I’m not going to play in the role of my main enemy! First thing first I’ll make her die a lot of times. The story continues, you discover that she was the daughter of the surgeon that years before was about to operate Ellie, before getting killed by Joel. You understand her feelings, her strengths and fears. You follow the path of blood that Ellie made, this time from a different position. All leads to the sequence in the theatre. This time YOU are the one pointing a gun to Ellie. I found it difficult to hit her, at that point I just wanted the cycle of violence to stop. Abby is physically superior but for the second time (the first was in the mountain shelter) she lets Ellie go.

This time Mr. Druckmann hits the fast forward button and we are in an idyllic scenery. Dina, Ellie and the little JJ are living in peace, apparently far away from the atrocities of this dystopian future. But the shadow of the past is always present and gets more present with the visit of Tommy. Something inside Ellie is broken. She’s unable to remove the image of Joel from his mind. She leaves again, decided to end the story. It’s no more a matter of hatred or revenge, it is pure desperation what moves her.

We finally find Abby, almost unrecognizable. Just for a moment Ellie’s shield is lowered and compassion hits her. After all she went through how could she let her go? Pushing the feels away we are introduced to the final, desperate, fight for life. Ellie is seconds away from drowning Abby and finish it all, as the sight of Lev triggers her memory of Joel. Abby was the only thing remaining to Lev. How could she kill her?

And finally the key of all the story is revealed. A flashback from the night before Joel’s death. Everything become so clear. Ellie never went over his decision of saving her but she promises that she would have tried to forgive him. This is a story about FORGIVENESS, not a story about REVENGE! Ellie was mad because Abby prevented her to forgive Joel.

Ellie lost everything. She has lost Dina, Tommy, and living in Jackson. Even being able to play the guitar, the only thing remaining from Joel. She’s empty, and emptiness is what you should feel as the credits are rolling. It took me several days to metabolize the complexity of the story, to understand what was moving each character. There’s no hero in this story, nor villain. There are human beings who make errors just like the real world. I dare you to find another videogame that encompasses these concepts and makes you feel like The Last of Us Part II does. Hats off to Neil and all the ND team, Ashley, Troy, Laura, Gustavo, everyone of them. You made something aere perennius.

I don't think there's really much I need to say considering most people on this site reviewing this game have said a lot of it already, and there has been a lot of denial and hate coming from people making positive reviews to those that are more critical and care about this game a lot. It upsets me that I have to say this about such a dear and beloved game to both me and many other peopleI don't think there's really much I need to say considering most people on this site reviewing this game have said a lot of it already, and there has been a lot of denial and hate coming from people making positive reviews to those that are more critical and care about this game a lot. It upsets me that I have to say this about such a dear and beloved game to both me and many other people out there, but I'll give my opinion on this game anyway.

While the last of us part 2 delivers on the graphical front, and in its diversity and improvements in gameplay customisation and mechanics, it certainly does not on the story, it fails to give its respective fans and and it's universe a place where things really feel grounded, and does not deliver satisfying in-game objectives or a narrative that is enjoyable and understandable, if its goal was to try and get me to stop playing, then it fulfilled its purpose, because I wasn't impressed or pleased, bearing in mind I tried to keep an open mind to all of the narrative decisions, god forbid you have a good story in a quite literally story-driven game. A lot of the choices seem to be made for the purpose of creating conflict and trying to get an emotional rise out of the player in order to emphasise it's message of "revenge", but only falls head first on itself. It doesn't respect it's established universe, and doesn't care what the previous game had put in place, and it doesn't give itself time to develop, it feels like it ends before it has time to even begin. Therefore, it neither shows respect for its viewers nor characters, which I think is an understatement considering the events that take place in this game. I won't be listing any spoilers or any other reasons as to why that's the case, but I'm afraid I really cannot recommend this game. It's not just disappointing, or angering, it's honestly just sad, and not because it just didn't go how some had imagined or wanted, but because I don't think the people behind the game itself even knew what they wanted, or were even trying to communicate or accomplish with this game, it remains a mess through and through. If you're playing the game for gameplay and mechanics, then I certainly can recognise the improvements and recommend those specific parts, the same goes for graphics too as mentioned in the beginning of this, but story, is and will remain in its same awful and poorly written state, and I do not recommend it for those looking to get the deserved sequel of The Last of Us 2.

#1 This game is being “unfairly” downvoted by people who didn’t even play the game. I say this because it became apparent that this game was review bombed less than 12 hours after the game was released FYI (you need at least 20 hours to finish the game). The downvoted reviews were mainly due to the backlash caused by a few cutscenes that were “leaked” before the release of the game.

#2 Other people are review bombing the game because they don’t agree with the game’s story and narrative choices. In my opinion it’s completely unfair to review a game “solely” based on the the narrative choices of the game creative director. Other major factors should be examined Ana analysed before coming to any conclusions.

    And now to the review:

    The Last Of Us 2 8.0 / 10

    Pros (+)

    - Amazing Graphics : I can undoubtedly say that this game is the best looking PlayStation 4 game so far.

    - Solid Gameplay: The gameplay has been significantly expanded on with new mechanics , weapons, and tools at your disposal - Highly Polished Game : I didn’t encounter any bugs or glitches in the 25+ hours of playing the game. The game also ran at a steady 30 FPS with no noticeable frame drops.

    - New unique Factions with their own story, beliefs , ideas , and personal struggles - The game feels more open and less linear compared to the first game with more sandbox like environments in the world.

    - The Environmental story telling in this game is the best so far in the entire industry. Every building , house , and room feel lived in and has a story to tell.

    - Gustavo Santaolalla does a wonderful job as the game’s soundtrack composer. The soundtrack this time around can be considered at the same level , if not better than the first game. - The writers take a massive risk with their bold attempt at exploring very dark and vengeful themes. I personally think that the overall theme of the game helped to distinguish TLOU2 from the first game. —————————————————————

Cons (-) - The pacing of the story felt unorganised and in some cases annoying. It’s very clear that some parts of the story felt very unreasonable and unnatural compared to the first game. - Too many new characters were Introduced (10 new characters or more) and unfortunately some of them were either un-memorable or weren’t given enough screen time. It’s also clear that some characters didn’t get the character development that they deserved. This is expected when you introduce too many new characters that lack proper character development due to time constraints.

    - The game felt too long , I think the game could’ve been fine if it was as long as the first one instead of stretching the game into the 20-30 hours territory. ————————————————————-

Verdict: 8/10 I personally believe that this game would’ve gotten a 9 or 10 if the storytelling was re-arranged in a more chronological manner similar to the the first game. I also believe that game’s overall experience could’ve been significantly enhanced if some characters were better written and had a longer screen time.

This game , as the media describes it , is a “Flawed Masterpiece” and I think this term appropriately describes what TLOU2 really is.

I personally think you should play this game , even if you don’t agree with its themes and narrative, it’s still worth your time.

The game play is phenomenal and allows for a realistic adventure with very well paced waves of several enemy types. The evolution of gameplay from the first game is spectacular and introduces new things to interact with while there are also new dangers to worry about in combat. Characters and violence have extreme highs and lows, and although at some point all of the characters made some kind of upsetting choice, I never once felt it didn’t belong in the story. The story makes sense. The decisions they make align with the characters and what happens aligns with this universe. It’s hard and hurts, as it should in a harsh world where there is never a safe moment or rarely a “happy ending” for these characters. The diversity in the cast and characters from age, sexuality, body types, etc. is very natural and it feels good to play such a widely known game that does it so well. I laughed and smiled so wide at humor and absolutely stunning scenes, cried sad and happy tears where I felt so intensely for the characters, and I nearly crapped myself at some of the encounters with new enemy types. Well deserved 10/10 for overall attention to detail in every aspect. I have never played anything like it and it’s hard to accept that not all other games will feel the same after this amazing piece of art. Expand

Yeah it's cliche and everything you want to say but the development through Ellie it feels good, we see her growing up through the game and we can easily notice these changes and around her... If you liked the first one this game still for you, no matter what you heard it stills worth it

someone put this in **** head , Graphics are not everything ,,,,,, if that was the case there won't be classics that we play since the 80's
STFU & show some respect or leave out games & beloved characters alone.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
