I really hated the game. More specifically the narrative. Yes, the game is fun, even Abby's story line but I truly didn't care for Abby's story line. Absolutely incredible game that exceeded the hype and surpassed all of my expectations. Breathtaking gameplay and mechanics that feel eerily life-like. The character arcs were so complex and interwoven that I wonder how they were able to bring it all together so flawlessly. As a filmmaker, the gorgeous lighting and overall aesthetic really sealed the deal for me. True masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sort of a failure, sort of a masterpiece The Last of Us Part 2 tries to blur the line of protagonists and antagonists. What is evil and what is not. The problem is that some of the character development/inconsistent behaviour or particular aspects of the story fall flat due to lack of said development, and the bigger problem is that all of those aspects could’ve been easily avoided by switching/tweaking some minor details here or there, while maintaining the same story. Now, the story is polarizing. Love it or hate it, but I think it’s pretty amazing. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, where you get to experience love and care, only to be left with void and despair. It’s not a fun experience in the end of the day, but it’s definitely worth it. Besides, it’s not the type of universe, where people get to be happy. Starting with the original The Last of Us, it was pretty clear, that it aims to show brutality of the world our characters are in. The story makes sense, but it’s how it’s delivered that makes it illogical in some parts. Again, it’s just little things, and I’ll gladly close my eyes to those aspects, as it’s pretty clear what Naughty Dog tried to do here, but it’s still disappointing of how they missed those minor details. Don’t listen to all those angry kids upset about Joel’s death or presence of LGBT themes, they clearly missed the point. Experience it for yourself. Everything but the story is 10/10

It's a bit disheartening to see so many hateful people reviewing the game based on their own biases and often sexist opinions rather than actually playing. I wish I could filter those out because I thoroughly believe the user score would have been much higher which it rightfully deserved. But unfortunately the world is filled with ignorant people. OVERALL REVIEW: so I have completed the game and now I can say that I have played the worst game ever. They could have made it so much better but they went full drunk with this one. Almost half my gameplay was searching for the resources and collectibles. They have made it so bad that I don't think I am ever going to buy a naughty dog game again. The game is very very very slow. Sometimes it start to feel like they have needlessly stretched the gameplay just to make the overall game duration longer. I got so bored by this game I had to force myself to complete it for just knowing the ending.
    The ending was very bad.
The overall game is very bad. I think this is the worst PS4 game ever.

Pros: terrific graphics (but GOT is the best looking on PS4P)
Cons: story, length, emotionally confusing (especially if you are a fan of TLOU), painful to get through

If you don't mind that stuff then the repetitive shear brutality and lack of emotional investment in the characters only keeps you going to find out who survives in the end. In retrospect, it is a game that is merely meh. Whereas TLOU is still one that I will revisit to relish great story and emotional ties that still evokes love and the defense of that love.

The Last Of Us part II in many ways expands this story, and even though it is painful to see Joel out of the picture so soon, I feel it was necessary for even I to be motivated with Ellie’s goal. I remember thinking ok I’ll stop after this section and then kept playing for the sake of it was my revenge too. And once I switched to abby I felt so conflicted the further I played as her. Did I want Ellie to succeed or Abby to flourish? And although even the end didn’t feel successful to me I could not get it out of my mind. This game is truly a masterpiece for even making it possible for myself to switch and understand other perspectives, and to even feel the emotions I felt. All I really should have said was this game is a must play, for anyone who likes a phenomenal story. Expand

The Last of Us Part 2 is one of the biggest disappointments of all time. I really loved previous Naughty Dog games. I gave Uncharted 2, for example, a full 10 because it was one of the outstanding games of the PS3 generation. I also enjoyed the first The Last of Us game, mainly based on the characters, story and world. Sadly, I can't say the same thing about the The Last of Us Part 2.The Last of Us Part 2 is one of the biggest disappointments of all time. I really loved previous Naughty Dog games. I gave Uncharted 2, for example, a full 10 because it was one of the outstanding games of the PS3 generation. I also enjoyed the first The Last of Us game, mainly based on the characters, story and world. Sadly, I can't say the same thing about the The Last of Us Part 2.

The Last of Us Part 2 has destroyed the franchise for me. I did not like what they did with the characters and narrative. And, unfortunately, I never thought the gameplay was all that enjoyable in the first game and it's mostly the same here. It wears thin for me. I just don't find it all that fun. So with a terrible narrative and characters, and average gameplay, all I'm left with is a very pretty game. But that isn't enough to make me want to continue playing a game. Most high end games these days look pretty damn amazing. Games now have to actually be enjoyable if they want to stand out and be held in great esteem by gamers.

Another thing I have to mention is that the game has very obvious woke messaging throughout it. I am so tired of being beat over the head constantly with this same political ideology in every form of entertainment media. And given the fact that this game will likely be played by many young people who aren't aware of the propaganda they are being fed it amounts to a kind of brainwashing. I think this is despicable and should be called out. Most gamers do not want any kind of overt modern political messaging in their games.

So, in the end I disliked the game for several major reasons: the poor narrative and characters, the average gameplay that I don't get much enjoyment from, and the fact the game is being used as a vehicle for specific political messaging. If Naughty Dog returns to what made games like Uncharted 2 so great I will gladly buy and play their next game. But if they continue down this path of being more concerned about shoehorning their political agenda into a game, instead of making sure it's a great game that can be enjoyed by a wide range of gamers, I will be avoiding their future releases.

Как человек, который проходил первую часть, могу сказать , что сюжет второй не так уж и плох. Да, он мог бы быть лучше, но он точно не слит полностью и не на 0/10(это просто смешно). This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. first of all, don't believe those horrible reviews that people are giving the game. The Last Of Us 2 is a game faithful to the mechanics presented in the first game, but improved. The game is incredibly beautiful, with ultra realistic graphics, especially on the faces of the characters. Now about the history line, I can say that it is very good if you understand that the game is about people, and that people make mistakes, especially when they are moved by emotion or traumatized , and that in this game there are no hero characters or villains, do not play this game thinking that you will control a fair and innocent character. I think the lack of this notion brought all these bad reviews. So considering that, I belive there are two big mistakes in the script: first of all, the way Abby finds Joel pretty quickly in the same day they found Jackson it's very convenient, it didn't cost anything to spend a little more time and make this part more realistic. second: the time spent on Abby with the kids, I feel like they were only put in the game to make Abby look like a good person, and it makes sense because the game wants us to feel empathy with her, but I don't think we needed that much time to do so, they could include more of her relationship with her friends, more about her time with the fireflies. Last of all, the way Tommy treats Ellie and Dina when he comes with a clue about Abby doesn't fit the character and Ellie threatening Lev at the end to, even tho she was desperate and traumatized, I don't think Ellie would do that, just look at her reaction when she finds out she killed a pregnant woman. The visuals, the gameplay and acting, are all crowning achievements in their own right and should be praised as such. However, when it comes to the story, it seems to fall flat. Don't get me wrong, I thought the writing was very well done. I just feel like they could have taken the time to flesh it out, where it doesn't confused people to the point of the writer having to come out explain it. It's a confusing and as it went on I found myself less invested in the plot. This was poor and rushed way of telling a revenge story. It would have made more sense to learn about Abby and her past before she killed Joel. Instead we get random girl murders main character over a past we didn't know occurred. Not only that but instead of taking years to plan out her vengeance, Ellie goes off half cocked,, where it feels like she is rushing to her own death. There was no thought put into this. If you are going to write a revenge plot, do it right. Also the way she let Abby live at the end left me feeling nothing for Ellie. At this point, at least Abby is still redeemable if they decide to make another game. Other than that I really enjoyed this game. The writing needs work but it was decent. 8 out of 10 Expand

The game world is beautiful and the gameplay is good, the story is just really poor, it honestly felt like a slap in the face to kill off Joel in that fashion then expect me to want to play as or care about his murderer, it just killed my motivation to play which sucks because I had been really looking forward to this game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The Last Of Us Part II is one of the best followups to a critically acclaimed title I have every played in my life. Story wise the game is consistently captivating from beginning to end. The mechanics of the game have improved a ton also while staying true to the original flawlessly. Naughty Dog has truly outdone themselves with this fantastic title.

The story... It's rare for a game to make you feel something... But just like the first game, this story makes you feel a lot of things, and due to the alternate perspective element of this story you end up feeling even more. I will be playing this game again soon.

(Why only 9/10?) I feel that the story could have given me more in terms of answers. Anyone who has played the first game will know about Ellie's arm, this was mentioned/referenced maybe 3 times throughout. This story is not about a cure at all, this story is about living in this new world and deciding what you want to fight for and when you decide to fight for it or let it go. But this story never really climaxed, rather it just kept building up to not much and then hanging back a bit before building up again and then taking its foot off the gas. Don't get me wrong, there were a lot of emotional scenes, but despite the fact it is made like a fantastic film, this is still a game and we do need a story which gives us satisfaction through that gameplay (I.e pulling the trigger that finally kills the protagonist, or making the final decision to do the thing you were trying to do the whole game, or even choosing to walk away). Most of the important moments were just a cutscene, then we went back to the same (fantastic) gameplay.

I would not want anything from the story to be removed, rather I'd want some of that story to be gameplay rather than a cut scene and some additional character development/backstory added for the unanswered questions.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The game is one of the best and at the same time the worst gaming experiences of my life, both in a good way. Well, the game is an exercise in empathy, putting yourself in the other's shoes. It was very courageous for N.D not only to do that in the story, but mainly to make you feel what the characters feel. Because the more you advance, the less you feel rewarded in any way, quite the contrary, the more you advance, the more it seems that along with the characters you sink, you lose and the game gets heavier and more distressing. This for me is revolutionary and against the tide of any existing game, that at least I have played in my life, you don't feel like this: "Victoria! I defeated this super tough boss!" "Look, I beat this guy, he gave me several items" Or anything like that. You feel heavy and reaching the final two climaxes, if you bought the experience that N.D tries to pass, you play with your heart in your hand. If you don't buy the idea, it won't be the same thing and probably the game will decay a lot. At first, I thought Joel's death was a little pointless, but later stopping to think and analyze the situation, it made perfect sense. Soon, I changed my mind about. The only thing I didn't like was the start of Abby's campaign, not just because of the initial anger. But also because her first day, she does missions with people you’ve seen Ellie kill, so she’s losing a lot of weight, you know she won’t do anything there. After she separates from this glr and especially when she joins the two children, she grows up a lot and gets **** cinematic. There is even a film critic doing analysis of the game's scenes in a cinematic way and how a scene can intrinsically build a narrative. The first is a masterpiece and the second follows the same and even surpasses it. Everything in the second game is more in-depth and the actions of the characters have more weight. In the first game, things happen and they don't seem to have a consequence, that doesn't. A much more mature game, unfortunately, the fans have not matured in those 7 years. The last of us does not follow a cake recipe from the industry where you advance to the next level and win a freebie until you get to the boss and beat him, up the credits, you're done. And if you don't have a multiplayer, nobody cares more about the game and they don't talk about it anymore, like the one that has been almost a month since the launch and we are here so far discussing the same thing. That's why it takes almost 10 years between the launch of one and the other and not 1 year as AC.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 is one of the best games released this generation. The slow paced start of the game works well, and getting a glimpse of the life Ellie and Joel have had over the last five years in Jackson is great. When the game gets really going you see all the different game mechanics work together well, and the emotional beats of the story work really well.

Ashley Johnson delivers again with her portrayal of Ellie, giving a nuanced, emotional, and layered performance throughout the game which really makes you connect with the character. The story works well on the whole, hitting plenty of emotional beats and memorable moments, with only a minor criticism relating to the mid game perspective shift. The Abby character, well played by Laura Bailey, works well enough, but the real strength of the game for me is the journey Ellie goes on in her quest for revenge. The other new characters of Dina and Jesse work really well, and are great additions to the series, and their interactions with Ellie give you a new perspective on Ellie, Lev though feels more of a narrative device to show you Abbys redemptive side. The cutscenes are all expertly done, and the last scene of Ellie and Joel being one that will live long in my memory.

On the technical side of things this game is amazing. The graphics are the best on the system, with realistic character models and environments, and the animation is top drawer. The game environments and level design are some of the, if not the best when it comes to this type of game. The sound design and soundtrack is also another strength the game has, evoking emotional responses throughout the game. The gameplay and game mechanics are some of the best in a third person action adventure, with everything feeling intuitive, and the various weapons all feel great to use against the enemies. Improvements in npc AI also is a welcome addition, offering more challenging gameplay.

In closing I’d just say this is a great game worthy of the praise it has had, and though the death of Joel early on is a bone of contention for many who love that character, it is the driving force behind the game and why it’s easy to see Ellie’s motivations. At the games end I was left emotionally shattered by the trials and trauma Ellie had gone through, and was left hoping she was heading back to Jackson after leaving the abandoned farm.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was advertised as a game centred around Ellie's revenge, although I agree with this I also believe it is a story about forgiveness. You can see how Ellie struggles to forgive characters early on in the story with the way she struggles to forgive Seth who she calls a "bigot" instead of accepting his peace offering. This tells us a lot about Ellie's character early on. Ellie does not only struggle to forgive others she also struggles to forgive herself, she feels guilty for not forgiving Joel. By Ellie not killing Abby it is Ellie forgiving Joel. If you don't forgive Abby at the end of the story and are upset that Ellie didn't kill Abby you are the Ellie that embarked on the journey to murder everyone in her path the Ellie which is unwilling to forgive. This game shows that life is a cruel but efficient tutor. Both the characters experience trauma related to their father figures death. Ellie with her flashbacks to the basement and Joel's face and Abby with her flashbacks to the firefly hospital. I loved the deeper meanings in this game. Expand

I went into this game spoiler free, with my head held high, filled with faith and trust in Naughty Dog's team. Let me be clear, this game is a 10/10 in certain aspects, such as visuals, sound direction, environments and voice acting. And it's with great disappointment that the 5/10 I gave this game, is mostly due to those factors alone.
I knew heading in that this was gonna be a story about hate, contrary to the previous game, which was about love. And even being mentally prepared for some events which were bound to happen regardless, that wasn't enough for me to overlook the major flaws in it's character continuity and confusing motivations. The pacing was horrible, many times making me just want to stop playing for the day. It's a shame, because I think, on paper, this could actually be a great game, and some changes to the structure could easily fix some of the most problematic issues the fan base has with the game regarding a certain character.
One major problem I had that continuously made me roll my eyes was how I could clearly see the writers intention when presenting me with forced sections of the game. One of the most basic rules in writing is to not think of yourself as smarter than your readers, it will always backfire. This constant feeling of being spoon fed emotions through a cracked one way mirror made me think the writer looks at me as if I'm an idiot who can't tell the difference between a real plane and a spoon filled with lies.
Long story short, I think it's fine to change the whole theme and feel of a sequel compared to it's predecessor, but there needs to be a solid reason to do so. The story tried to present something meaningful and deep, but it's shortcomings resulted in a shallow and convoluted narrative that by the end of the experience, left me feeling like my time was wasted and my trust in Naughty Dog corrupted.

It's the same feeling from Resident Evil 4 where fear comes from scary enemies and overwhelming odds. Survival, especially in the stealth sections, require a lot of creativity. It's very rewarding when games require you to think and make it clear that there are a lot of options. I played on moderate, and found it pretty difficult. There was incentive to avoid being seen and remain in stealth, because enemies easily overwhelmed you and drained your supplies otherwise. I never got bored even with this long campaign, which is impressive.

Alright, the story. It bugged me, but I think that was the point. Part 2 continued Part 1's theme of characters doing what the characters would do. In other words, the events are realistic when you consider the game world and the character's experiences. The writers did not try to make a story that would make fans happy. While it's admirable, it causes inevitable discomfort. That's why I can't give this game a 10. But I don't think the story ruined the game.

A few other notes. The start of the quest is a little slow. This game is very large and provides a lot of opportunity for searching for additional lot and even upgrades. Sometimes it rewards, sometimes it punishes. Again, that's realistic. It also can be really boring at times however.
Graphics are beautiful and motion capture and faces are crazy realistic.

This game has emotions all over the place, the music could bring a tear to a soldier and the story beats just flow so well. This is the only game I have ever cried at (when Ellie cannot play the guitar and reminisces about Joel), and I couldn't think over a better game to have that experience with.

The graphics are second to none and wouldn't look out of place on the PS5, so I applause

The graphics are second to none and wouldn't look out of place on the PS5, so I applause the art designers for that one. Gustavo Santaolalla has given us another masterpiece with the beautifully elegant soundtrack for the game. The gameplay was amazing, the animations were so realistic and the stealth mechanics are some of the best I've experienced.

If I could change a few things they would be:
    - Play the game earlier in the timeline, making the game maybe 10 hours longer. This would allow us to experience the amazing flashbacks as actual parts linearly. This would add to the emotional trip Ellie experiences throughout her story. (Also giving us more Joel aha)
    - Let us play the whole of Ellie's story and post finishing the game, say now you can play Abby's story and see what she was doing the whole time. I get this ultimately defeats their aim with Abby, however, I believe playing as Abby disrupts the flow of Ellie's revenge-fueled emotional voyage.

And for that, I leave the review with a solid 9/10

Cinematics and visuals are beautiful. Gameplay slightly better than first one and the acting is top notch. I didnt expect the sequel to be better than than the first, which was a masterclass, but thought this would get closer did. The storyline was a gamble and it didn't quite have the payoff but overall still a good game.

The only reason this game does not get a 0 is because it's literally a work of art aesthetically, that said, they literally make you play as Abby, an unapologetic, murderous, hypocrite, for 11 hours and her **** friends. I hated her, can't even stand this. They ruined this franchise.

Poor story writing. The new characters introduced were terrible and the old characters from the first game were ruined. Do not waste your time and money on this game.

Okay, as you might have realised, most reviews are from people who either haven't played the game or are kids, or are angry because THEY KILLED MAH FAVORIT VIDYA CHARACTER.

however, there are some things that do bug me, like when you change character and you start playing as abby, you go on missions who are not really central to the plot. like you barely see the carnage that ellie is leaving behind her, and that was a real bummer. and the fact that this game has 2 endings, like, it ends, and then it ends again, the second one was a little forced, a little weird, but it is still damn good, give it a try, ****

I know that people find the story amazing, but to me it was predictable and reminded me of the video game trip of you slaughtering a boss then the cut scene starts and they are somehow the one who comes away with the win. And I feel that when it comes to Last of Us if the story fails that is Major reason why people play the game and that is a Majority of the score.

They made only few improvements with combat and stealth, which were better but after 10 hours it felt shallow since it didn't feel that different from the original.

Basically, moderately enjoyable gameplay but a story that feels generic uninspired.

I am taking a point off for the game play really not having evolved and Naughty-Dog's insistence on adhering to its usual formula. But all the complaints about story are false. Its about society going crazy when survival is the only value people have in common. Be patient with it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Didn’t think I would have to say this about this series but the Last of Us part 2 is a poorly written Story with boring and uninteresting characters and just told in such a awful way for many reasons. My first reason why is due to the way on how Joel died. I wasn’t upset about him dying but I was just upset about the way he died. Joel and Tommy are smart men and Joel knows whenever something is wrong and how to play situations. The fact that Joel and Tommy are not getting any red flags or nothing makes me feel like his death was rushed and they didn’t put at all much care in how to make his death meaningful and believable. Another reason why I dislike the story is how they treated Ellie also. In the first game I LOVED Ellie and she was my favorite character in the first game along side Joel of course. She is a down to earth girl who tries to have fun even though the world that they are in is filled with evil and hate. But in part 2 Ellie is just in my opinion some Ignorant, selfish, uninteresting girl who is just HELLBENT on murdering Abby and her crew to get revenge to which she kills TONS of innocent people and even dogs and just can’t understand why Joel did what he did in the hospital. I also don’t like how the random MPC surgeon that Joel killed suddenly has a Daughter. I think this is lazy writing and could've done better if she was like the daughter of Marlene or maybe related to David. Furthermore, I don't like how they basically shove Abby down your throat and they try SUPER SUPER hard to make you like her to which fails because you had her kill Joel literally in the first like 2 hours even though Joel saved her alongside Tommy too which kills any kind of relationship immediately. I think that the characters on Abby’s side are all either uninteresting or just there to just be there and hold barely any purpose, same even goes for characters like Dina and Jessie to which had a TON of potential. Another thing about Abby, is that she is SO evil and such a awful/dumb person because she was gonna kill Dina even though Ellie said Dina was pregnant and that she had nothing to do with the killings but Abby didn’t care. At least when Ellie killed Mel, she was shocked and sick to her stomach about it. She also even tortured Joel to death in front of Ellie and she kills Jessie and somehow doesn’t kill Tommy when she shot him in the head. Another reason why is because as much as I felt bad for Abby’s father dying, It doesn’t justify killing Joel. She doesn’t even ask him why he did that or anything. She just wants to murdering/torturing him and not care about why he did what he did. I feel like if we got to play as Abby and see her relationship with her dad more or even play as Abby to begin the game, she would have been more likable. I also don’t like how they basically give all of our characters in the first game a awful ending and how they all suffer but Abby gets away with everything she wants in the end. Its like they want you to hate Ellie and everybody except for Abby. The main thing that I hate is how Ellie leaves Dina to hunt down Abby again to which I don’t blame her and to which I was on Ellie’s side but that quickly changed however when Ellie a split second before drowning Abby to death and Abby biting her fingers off lets her go and now comes home to find Dina and the baby are gone, and everyone she knows is either dead or left her. But the main thing that sucks is how Ellie’s only fear of being alone came true. I was SO SO hurt to wait 7 years for them to expend the relationship of Joel and Ellie due to the trailers and all the interviews before the games release and all that I got in my opinion is just some poor writing story about revenge is bad but only for Ellie but its okay for Abby to which I don’t care at all about her and I left the game feeling depressed, upset, and just felt like I was better off never playing it so that way I don’t have to deal with knowing Joel and Ellie’s fate. I also felt like the writers took everything in the first game from the characters to the theme of the game and threw it all out the window and ignored everything that they built. Now this point that i’m bring up here is something that I saw a youtuber give and the point was how Sarah’s death in the first game was just ignored and they made her death pointless because Sarah’s death is what made Joel the person who he was in the first game which was a hard and tough guy on the outside but a father who lost his daughter but got given another chance at that with Ellie to which it sucks to see that. Sucks to say this but I can honestly say that as a fan of the first game since its release in 2013 I no longer care about what happens to any of the characters even Ellie which sucks to say and I'm not excited for part 3 if they ever do it or even the HBO series to which i have no plans on watching again because of bad I was hurt while playing this game. This has to be the most repulsive game ever made. Horrible writing destroys whatever good there might have been in other areas. I don't understand why they would want to ruin a big game like this to force a political message. This is not okay. Do not buy this game! This has to stop.

Not as amazing as the first one, but still many great new characters, and the game treats every returning character with great respect and makes them feel even more lifelike than the first game. A great story with a great ending. Many complain that the ending was pointless because you don’t get your revenge, but the first game is about bringing Ellie to the fireflies to get a cure, but that never happens? People just want to hate on the game so much just because it was something completely different than what naughty dog usually does, and most of the actual fans of the first game loved this one as well Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
