Sony deserves to take a loss on this. There never should have been a sequel. If they had to do one, it should NOT have included the characters from the first game, but taken place elsewhere in the same Universe. I don't need to add spoilers, they're all over the place. This is a bad game.
The game is trying to teach the player to show mercy when the player got no reasons to do so.
Although the gameplay and art style is great, the story itself is bad, very bad. It is like Gordon Ramsay trying to make a dish with **** it just won't work.

Naughty Dog's gameplay still doesn't change and doesn't revolutionize the video game, I didn't like this game and the storyline choice the developers chose, I never really liked this studio and with The Last of Us Part II still hasn't reconciled me. Ellie's sexuality doesn't bother me but I don't like to see LGBTQ flags in a video game because I prefer to escape as much as possible from reality, same for the heroes of the game who are only women, do not put your political opinion a video game in the future please! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics are beautiful and the voice acting is great.

The gameplay is so-so at best. Moving around the environment is somewhere between functional and uninspiring. Combat is decent for ranged attacks but limited trash for melee, feeling more like something that happens in front of you rather than something you are taking part in.

Finally the story is a muddled mess. It's not terrible but not great. I feel like a better arrangement and pacing would make for a good story but alas it turns out meh. Also, the people writing the story needed to have a much better idea of the gameplay because it leads to some real clashes between what the character says and what the player has experienced.

One example that comes to mind is after a LONG gameplay segment fighting through a long section in a building then through a tunnel network where dina is actively saving your ass you finally reach an old theater and Dina is tired and admits she might be pregnant. Ellie rips into her for essentially being a burden and i'm sitting there thinking WTF are you talking about? She just helped you fight a fricking army......

If you have time to kill and cash to burn I would pick the game up. It's not bad, just not great.

I can't just reduce my feelings to this game into a few sentences.
But, all I can say is that I am shocked, how one man or just a few people's decisions were able to and were allowed to ruin so many people's hard work to create an absolute masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay is fine. The graphics are worth a masterpiece. The story part is obviously mediocre. Joel didn't deserve to die like this. The game manipulates too much. While Abby is an animal lover, Ellie brutally kills dogs. This part is very uncomfortable. It was pretty bad to play for 6 hours with a character I didn't like. The finale was very stupid. Abby will most likely be the lead character in part 3. This series ended with Joel's death. I think it is unfair to devoleper team to give a low score due to the story. The pacing is off in regards to the big plot points, and they should have spent more time getting the timeline of the story to make sense, instead of going for sensational clips. Instead, it's a cesspool of zeroes given for character deaths and body types? This game was meant to show just how deeply our actions impact others, how we should consider the bigger picture, how we should celebrate life as it is too short for anger & vengeance. As much anguish as this story caused me, I loved every aspect of it. Certain characters I initially hated, despite how strong a love I felt for characters impacted by them, the game shed insight on their pain, their anger, their personality.

The story follows through from the first game, it's brutal, heartbreaking, complicated, at times fun and lighthearted but most of all it's really a story about obsession and revenge. Choices have consequenses and in this world, they're bloody. Hopefully the bracelet theory pans out and Ellie and Dina are together in the end. This game made me feel so much, the beginning of the game was so well done. I cried my eyes out when I heard Ellie beg for Joel's live to be saved. It was such a powerful scene that no one wanted to happen, but it did. That's what makes it so strong especially killing of Joel. Throughout the whole game I felt the anger Ellie felt. I needed revenge on all of them. When we got to the part where we killed Nora and the square button popped up. I smiled and actually took my sweet time killing her. It was **** up but so well done. When we killed Owen and Mel and Ellie unzipped her jacket and saw that she was pregnant was insanely well made. Abby saved Lev at all cost and she came to the aquarium expecting her friends alive and well. But they were brutally murdered. I don't care which character experiences this but no one deserves that. Even though when I played as Ellie and killed them I loved it. It was great seeing the other side of the story.

I get the hate for this game, I totally do. When we got near the ending and we had to hunt down Ellie as Abby I really wanted to stop. Even though I really liked Abby, but I like Ellie more. Then the most unexpected ending ever happened. We lived in a farmhouse with Dina's baby and I had to get the sheeps inside of the barn. However somehow everything reminded Ellie of Joel's death and I cried again when I had to run down those stairs in her hallucinations. The ending of the game is the only thing that I wish they changed. I hoped we actually had a choice to kill Abby and if you did. You'd just see her lifeless body with lev in the boat and realize what you've just done. While writing this the good ending is actually, leaving her alive.

Abby did the same thing, she killed Joel but even after she did she still couldn't get her mind of her dead father. Killing him literally only made her life worse and that's what Ellie prevented by letting her go. Really powerful story.

Gameplay: 9/10, combat sometimes feels a bit wonky but I haven't seen a game do it better.
Graphics 10/10, phenomal graphics. Don't have anything to say about that
MUSICCCCCCCCCCC: 1000/10 I can't explain how much I love the soundtrack, I played this game with all the sound options on 40/100 and music 100/100 and I recommend you do the same.
Story, 9/10, they could've just made a generic. Joel and Ellie go on an adventure thing again. Which honestly would be just as good but this made it so much more unpredictable and powerful.

the game for me is a 9.3/100 but im giving it a 10 because in no universe does this game deserve lower than a 7/10.

9,4. But for me, this game is found upon its storytelling, as that is what drives the tension in a survival game and makes you want to look for the last scraps of stuff in drawers to keep going.
The Last of Us 2 has abysmal character development and lazy writing, and the decision by the team to force an ending so empty and unsatisfying left me heartbroken. I will probably play the Last of Us 3. But I hope beyond hope that next time I do not have to endure 20+ hours of not even carrying what happens to my character because the story has completely lost its hold of me. I'm giving this an exceptionally poor rating because the audience deserves better next time, Sony and Naughty Dog.

My thoughts in a nutshell; I loved the game. It’s a very different story than the first game. It’s a way more sad, tragic, heart-wrenching game. It’s brutal, yes, but TLOU2 makes it a point to put your mental and emotional state in the blender for a reason. It was one of the most thought-provoking games I’ve played in a while. This game uses the player’s emotions against us perfectly and brings all of humanity’s ugliest flaws to the surface and rubs in our faces. When I finished this game, I actually took a pause to reflect and just thought about how grateful I am to have what I do in my life. To let go of any anger, stress, grudges that I have. It’s hard to explain without giving away story spoilers. For me, the game is essentially a ‘not-so-gentle’ reminder, that in our dark, cruel world, (not entirely post-apocalyptic yet), we should find our bits and pieces of love, joy and hold on tight……. Hold. on. tight.

An absolutely incredible experience and the most emotionally complex and conflicted narrative I've experienced in a game. This is a game about revenge, but more so, it's about empathy, forgiveness, understanding, and defining the purpose of your own life rather than having it defined for you.

I feel this game pushing me so hard to feel the good-woman Abby, Incontast Ellie like the bad girl.
The whole story made Ellie a lot looser as the PTSD trilogy lost everything, lost fingers, disabled, lost ability to play guitar. Losing lovers and families (Dina and JJ)
This is the main character that fans love. she would get anything better than these ending.
Personally, if finishing like this I'd rather end it at the farm. Joel would prefer Ellie to live happily. Not losing everything like this
The ending background in Menu bar is a hopeful for Abby and Lev. The director was biased. Hopeful for Abby but the despond for Ellie

    The game was not a complete disaster; it had absolutely mind blowing graphics and excellent character facial expression. The gameplay was fun but it started to get repetitive. The problem is not the game whatsoever, it was the narration... so I begin;

This game is a narrative disaster. Some places it felt like characters had short memory. They were on the path of revenge but most parts they seemed totally fined to me. Like this part before Abby shows up, they were normally having a convo about returning. Ok? But why are you thinking of returning when you didn’t eeven get your revenge. When someone close to you passes away in high times, all you feel is void. Leave alone the loved one being murdered right in front of you. No matter what he did, he did it for Ellie and this is how she returns the favor. Firefly pushed Joel too hard in the first place. How do you expect someone who lost his daughter, not to build a relation with Ellie. Plus, how much was it guaranteed a vaccine developed would be successful? The same story could've been said many times better with a few changes. Honestly it felt like Joel was hated by the developers. You put him in a position like this for what outcome? They didn’t show us Joel’s detailed explanation to it. He had so many reasons for it and explains nothing to Ellie. He owes nothing to her so why was he so hesitant? He said he could do it all over again so he wasn’t guilt, yeah? So he could list down his reasons. The way we think it is he was betrayed by firefly and he couldn’t risk losing Ellie after losing Sarah which is deep and a controversial step But the way it was portrayed by the developers was that Joel was selfish and did it for himself. He wasn’t selfish!! I know most of you think we hate the game for it being too rushed but that’s not the point. Abby killing Joel was one way to go, and seeing it from her perspective, she wasn’t wrong at all. Also, Joel dying at the beginning wouldn’t be a problem if Abby’s revenge was explained earlier. You can’t force me to play a POV who killed my fav character and don’t even tell me why he was killed. And then later on, I am explained. A few things weren’t realistic at all. Mel was pregnant but went for runs while WLF had too many people but no one to replace her. About Ellie not getting her revenge was also not a big deal only if it was narrated the right way. Ellie chose the path, all angry, ruining Tommy’s plan who almost had Abby killed and then back off because of Dina? What was the point when you lost her too? She wasn’t going for revenge anyway but Tommy came in, angry and crippled, who wants the revenge so bad but can’t get it, entrusts someone else with it and that person comes back to what? Forgiveness is a strong message, but sweetheart this is not how you convey the idea of it. I will kill everyone involved but the last person? Nah I will forgive her. Like ok? The plot holes ruined it all. It’s like someone had good bulletpoints for a story but didn’t know how to put it in words and the outcome was TLOU2. For all that I give it a 4 only.

Empathy is a big factor , personally I didn't find it hard to empathize with the characters, after all they are humans and have human actions and emotions. There is no evil character, there's just flawed humans trying to handle the grief that leads their misguided actions into the ultimate revelation that an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. I rarely if ever watch any news prior to the build up of a famous game that I want to play like last of us part two. I was excited to play the game once it was announced and gave naughty dog all of my support because of how great the first game was. The first half of the game was amazing graphics gameplay story Joel, tommy the new characters were decent. But once Joel was killed off by this new character Abby I was shocked. But it gave me incentive to play is Ellie and track them down and kill them all. A revenge game! But once the theater scene happened or Abby attack Ellie and Dinaand then I took over as Abby I have never been so pissed off in my entire gaming career. I did not want to play the game. The first scene when she was in the car driving I just sat there and let her be killed 100 times. Every time we got to the point where she was attacked by other people and I let Abby die. It was no fun to play as the antagonist that was going to kill the protagonist the one I came to love after the first game. Naughty dog Neil Druckmann the writers Sony I have never been so angry at what you created here - you forced me to play as the antagonist to try to kill the protagonist. The Last of Us Part II is anything but simple. At first glance you’d argue that it is. It’s about a set of characters in a post-apocalyptic world. All of this because of an outbreak that spreadThe Last of Us Part II is anything but simple. At first glance you’d argue that it is. It’s about a set of characters in a post-apocalyptic world. Food, medical supplies and other basic necessities are in shortage. The government has crumbled and in it’s place factions have risen to either gain control or give hope to the people around them. All of this because of an outbreak that spread to quickly to even give people a chance to find a cure or an appropriate way to contain the infection. Days Gone, Dying Light, The Walking Dead, DayZ, and many other games have touched upon this concept of an infected-filled world. It’s hard to talk about this game without revisiting the first one because Part II does start with the end of Part 1. So you got Ellie - your escorts mission throughout all of Part I - and she is immune to the fungi that creates these zombie-like creatures in this game. in fact, she is probably the only one that is immune. Then you got Joel, who is your main protagonist in the first game and the one that has to take Ellie to one of the factions called the Fireflies in hopes that they can study Ellie and find a cure. You get to see Joel lose her actual daughter early on in Part I and thusly see him hesitate in taking on the task of escorting a 14-year old girl in Ellie across America to the hospital that will find a cure for humanity. He takes the job anyways and in his journey with this girl begins to empathize with her and allows himself to bond with her as though she was his daughter. Given that he is all sorts of gray, he ends up taking a decision that impacts the future of humanity in saving Ellie and you have the premise of Part II.

Joel kills the only known neurosurgical expert that can perform the necessary procedure to study Ellies brain. The reason, he couldn’t bare losing his newly adopted daughter as the surgery would have killed her. Without hesitation, Joel rushes into the operating room, takes out the doctor, takes out anyone and everyone in his way and saves Ellie, while at the same time dooming humanity. You see this morally gray guy take a definitive action, a selfish one at best and you have to deal with it while also questioning what would you have done if you were in his exact same shoes. If you experienced the TLOU Part I and allowed yourself to be in Joel and Ellie’s shoes, you were probably engrossed in the story about them two as a father and daughter, and the infected world became secondary to their story. Still important but not the real focus of the story. Part II does the same thing. It starts off revisiting that hospital scene and giving you Joels rationale. Then, you play as Ellie for most of the game and then Abby for another good portion of the game. You get to see what happens because of Joel’s action through both of these characters. How they internalize it, how they express their feelings outward and how they inevitably impact the immediate world around them. This is still an infected world with more chaos than the first one, as no cure is found after things fell apart thanks to Joels action four years prior. Though you live in this world and interact with the present factions and learn about factions of the past, the game informs you that it is not about the world and instead it is about the characters you interact with in the world. Ellie is not hunted for the cure because she was not necessarily identifiable. Joel was because he was. So instead of this game being about hunting Ellie and her escaping it, it is about Ellie dealing with Joel’s actions and her own actions. It is also about Abby and her actions, as how it relates to Joel. The world that’s here is to inform you about the characters’ mind set and how it can push them forward to take certain actions or help them hold back. This game is not one note, contrived or preachy. At least I didn’t think it to be. It can be cut and dry at points and shocking at others but there’s deeper meaning to everything that happens and it happens organically. What I like most about this game, that may not be new, is that it goes off the path to give you uncomfortable moments that make you think about the society we live in and the society in this world. It makes you think about your own values and moral codes in comparison to the characters you play as. Of course, that is if you let it happen. At the end you go along on a tough ride in which you as a player clash with your characters actions in pivotal moments. This game is a buy, just like the first one was. It is well told and well crafted, and deserves your attention. It has great combat mechanics, visceral action, a unique cast of characters that are well enough fleshed out for you to care for them (pay attention to flashback as and notes) and will leave you thinking the game through days after you finish it.

Graphics are amazing, PS4 suffers to play this game (sounds like an airplane fan) but it really pays off, facial expressions are the best I've ever seen in a video game, beautiful post-apocalyptical destroyed scenarios, awesome effects.

Sound and soundtrack are as great as they were in the first game, many of the game sounds still the same from the first one, like when enemies detect you for example. Soundtrack is beautiful, even though I don't think it's as memorable as the first game.

Now for story, it's the reason I didn't give this game a 10. Besides all criticism over the game story, which some are correct and some don't, I actually liked the story they told us, I just didn't like the way it was told.
Game has serious pacing issues, it relies on many, many flashbacks to tell a story, they use this storytelling method to a lot, and the problem is, the flashbacks are actually more interesting than what's happening on the present. I know that what's happening in the present has the weight of what happened on the flashbacks but those moments still look disconnected and it bothers me.

My complains aside, game has a good story, but definitey not for everyone. Some people will really care and feel deeply connected to the characters some other people won't.

Before embarking on this journey just know that you'll end it feeling worse than when you started, that's the game intention.

The Last of Us Part 2 is a must PS4 title. One of the best experiences you can have in 2020.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. wow what a dumpster fire this game is. Exactly the opposite in story that I as a fan wanted. Lets kill joel in the first 2 hours. Lets utilize FALSE ADVERTISING to trick and steal money from people who were so excited for the continuation of ellie and Joel. I'm angry, at the trickery. I'm angry at the failure to gain depths beyond these paper thin filler characters. The retcon of abbie. Terrible terrible terrible. I do not care about graphics and game-play. graphics are fantastic. Game-play, meh. ever play the first? there you go. The accessibility options are phenomenal. The story is utter hot garbage. Not even close to being enjoyable. I don't need to have fun to play a game, but i damn sure need enjoyment from the product. This was a failure, and it is the last time i ever support naughty dog. Let me be clear, I DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYONES GENDER OR SEXUALITY. Ellie became an idiot in her choices based around joel and a few others but never due to her sexuality or gender. Joel became a fool, because plot demanded it. Abbie is a terribly written, horribly implemented retcon that deserves every intentional death she is put through. I don't care about lev. Oh your trans. Ok. good for you. I still don't care about you, you are paper thin and getting on my nerves. NOT because you are trans, but because you are a terribly written character. This game could have used these elements in the story for a fascinating heart wrenching tale that was masterfully woven. Instead Neil Drukman took a big fat dump and titled it, the last of us part 2. This game is a zero for me, but i give it 2 points, 1 for accessibility, one for graphics. Everything else can ESOD. Let me also clarify, i always turn music off in games, and i cannot stand when it is force implemented. it robs a game of immersion IMO. That applies to me. The musical score is terrible, i do not enjoy it. That is due to my musical taste. That is not to say that it is not composed well or by a talented musician. I find it to also be hot garbage. Therefore let it be known, my review does not reflect it in score, i give it a complete pass over as unfavorable as it does not apply to my style of gaming. It aggravates and agitates me causing me to lose interest even further when forced. You may enjoy it. I do not.

TLDR: Neil Drukman has the tummy rumblies and shoots a steaming pile all over the fans of TLOU with a terribly written dumpster fire that is TLOU PART 2, and not because of gender politics or agenda, while it is there, that is not the reason this game is terrible, the writing is.

Just felt depressing playing through this, like a spit in the face of the fans of the first game. Gameplay was pretty much the same so if you liked it in the first game you will like it here. However if you liked the first game I would not advice you to get this one, especially after the false advertising that were focused on getting fans of Joel and Ellie back. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
