    Strap in, folks...

The Last of Us was my favorite game for the better part of a decade. However modest a title that is, in the time between its release and the release of The Last of Us Part II, it was only ever truly challenged by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I wondered for a long time if there would ever be a sequel, all while simultaneously satisfied with the story that The Last of Us told; a powerful, moving, and evocative story filled with some of the best character development I've ever seen, a heart-wrenching climax complete with a moral dilemma to truly fracture the soul, and an ending that managed to strike the perfect balance of closure and invitation for continuation. As if that wasn't enough though, the Left Behind DLC was equally moving; a worthy counterpart and beautiful supplement to what was - in total - nothing short of a narrative masterpiece almost by an objective standard.

When Naughty Dog announced that it was making The Last of Us Part II, the Internet was suddenly ablaze with rumors, speculation, and fan theory. So many were excited to see what the writers had in store for the characters we'd come to love so dearly. I was equally excited, but also wary for the sake of the IP. The studio did everything they could to satisfy fans starving for more information: teaser trailers, cinematics, sample gameplay, and more. The community surrounding this IP not only loved it, but they also trusted the studio's writers to do it justice; a real rarity and welcome experience in the increasingly tumultuous and predatory industry that is AAA video game development. There was deep, unified support for one of the few good remaining studios, and it was all but certain that lightning would strike twice.

Only months prior to one of the most anticipated releases in gaming history, the Internet was once again ablaze. Only this time, it was bad news. Headlines appeared about major leaks and spoilers. Apparently, conflict within the studio had come to a breaking point and now spilled over into the public. Out of love for the IP, I went into an almost ridiculous state of Internet self-quarantine. I avoided any whisper about The Last of Us Part II for months. I had waited years for this game and I was determined to have a genuine gratifying experience playing it. I binged the game in all my hours of free time until I finished it last night...

No sequel or continuation - movie, book, video game or otherwise - has ever been so personally disappointing to me as has The Last of Us Part II.

No sequel or continuation - movie, book, video game or otherwise - has ever retroactively made me think so much less of the original.

I wish I could un-play The Last of Us Part II and forget it ever existed. At least then I would still love the beautiful story that was The Last of Us. Am I being melodramatic? Probably. It's only a game... but that's just it. It didn't used to be. At least not for me.

My advice may sound discordant, but there are reasons for it. If you love The Last of Us, do not play The Last of Us Part II. Don't stop there though. If you love The Last of Us, do not read, watch, or otherwise seek out anything about what happens in The Last of Us Part II. However, if you find this to be undoable, if you cannot resist and you must know the story, then you must actually play the game (ideally only once the price has bottomed out) and do so without spoiling any part of it for yourself beforehand. This is why, as much as I want to vent, I haven't written anything about the game's contents here. I can do that separately. This game is a betrayal of the story and the characters you love, by the developer that gave them to you seven years ago. All I can say is I don't see myself buying another game written or directed by Neil Druckmann or any of the writers for the Last of Us Part II. In fact, if I didn't know better I would ask who he stole The Last of Us from. The more I reflect on what transpires in The Last of Us Part II, the more it would seem that its predecessor might have just been a beautiful fluke; lightning in a bottle.

Everything about The Last of Us Part II other than the story ranges from good to amazing. The developers should be proud. Unfortunately, these things can't save a game that hinges entirely on its narrative when that narrative is so utterly broken that it disrespects what made the IP so beautiful in the first place.

If this isn't enough to convince you to completely ignore this game's existence, then I would encourage you to listen to any other spoiler-free player reviews you can find from people who were in your position before playing the game. The established critics are predictably out of touch. There is no "high art" aspect to this game, not even if you squint and turn your head sideways. If you love The Last of Us then this game is not worth playing. If you love The Last of Us, then The Last of Us still has no part two.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us part II is brave. And it does not risk in vain. The game starts with the usual magnificent perspective, that of Joel and Ellie, the protagonists of the first chapter. From the graphics, to the shooting system, to the ruined setting that highlights the beauty of nature, every clash is breathtaking, every twist unpredictable, the certain motivation is perfectly conveyed by Naughty Dog, with that death of Joel that is not at all dignified, it's not what we would have liked, but this is the strong point of the scene. We're angry at everyone and everything and we have the strength to move on. But when Abby enters the theater, then everything changes. We go over to the side of a character who pushes us to empathise. If the aim had been to make us love or almost love that character, then the story would have had to unfold in a different way: a comfortable pretty girl, a story from the beginning that leads us to the not-so-brutal killing of Joel. However, The last of us is an uncomfortable product: not by what we want, it doesn't seek ephemeral success, but transcends the game dimension making Abby's one (big) parenthesis to open up another perspective. So that we can question ourselves, without distinguishing right from wrong. At the end of this journey the loss of the two fingers is very heavy for Ellie: on the one hand it's negative, because she abandons the guitar and Joel, on the other side of the coin however (and this is the recurring theme) abandoning Joel means to forgive him (true founding theme of the adventure) and go on. Towards a new light. And also Abby is looking for a new light, together with Lev and after completing his journey of redemption.

The last of us part 2 in short is a product that transcends consumerism, and even if not the poignant narrative beauty of the first, manages to reach extraordinary emotional heights, almost a Picasso painting with a fourth dimension in the first battle between Abby and Ellie.

It's uncomfortable, and devastating. It's not what the boorish vulgar, superficial consumer wanted, but an intimate transcription of how things went after the first, the only way they could go, as if they had written themselves. Making this The last of us Part II is the perfect complementary PART of the first chapter, and it is a title that paints in a shocking way, opening a new level of depth in the videogame world, a glimpse of both inner and outer reality. This work is and will remain great precisely because it has been evaluated in a divisive way, there are those who love it and those who hate it, but it leaves no one indifferent. (free version) H

Tragedy is a method of story telling, and if that makes you uncomfortable then that is part of the reaction Tragedies will have on some, but there is a message. If you are blind to that and simply just lean towards anger and rage then that’s on you and your immaturity on the topic. I don't mean you have to be happy by the tragedies that do happen, it's ok to be upset, sad, or even mad when these events happen. However, if your reaction is to troll, send death threats to people who worked on the game, discriminate and attack the different shapes of women and other things that this game brings up then that reaction and behavior is disgusting. -This is terrible writen, there's alot of contradictions and plays with fake scenes that we're showned in the trailers so you can earn more money.
-It's a waste of potential, 'cuz the graphics, mechanics, and flashbacks are well maded, it's a shame, cuz with the same resourses, and the same characters you've could done a well MADED WRITEN story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm going to be conservative about the game. The Last of Us 2 is an average game at best and a 5 might be generous considering the hype they built up for it. I'm not going to be like other and rate this game a 0 out of 10 due to review bombing. There are till moments I have enjoyed, especially the early parts of the game set in Seattle I am very happy for. Ellie's rendition of "Take on Me" is one of the most visually compelling as well as musically beautiful cover of the song I've heard. Its beautiful and shows the bond between Ellie and her partner as well as her journey and emotions she feel. Also, the guitar moments are quite symbolic, its her remembrance of her father figure.

To praise the game, they did get the visuals right, The Seattle area was quite well done as hasn't happened before in the game. It is quite refreshing to have a nice open area to explore. Would have been nice of Naughty Dogs to ad more of those areas in the game, but oh well. The facial expressions and emotions shown on the characters are also well done. Its goes to show that ND still cares a lot about a certain level of details for the characters. This is proven in the flashback sequences as well. One of my favorite moments in the game is from Ellie in the space capsule. Its full of childhood wonder and the idea that if civilization does go back to the way thing were, Ellie would like to pursue an Astronomical career. Or something like that. The scene shows that she still has dreams. It was done very well.

Where the game went wrong are much more substantial in comparison to praise. The main problem of TLoU P2 is easily the pacing of the story. The first game offers a compelling story that feels like a journey and a bonding story between the main characters. The feels and journey just felt right all the way up to the ending, making the first game a masterpiece. In sequel, the story is similar to drinking a bitter coffee in one go and then you are left with just water. While I will praise how Joel's death did have an impact on my initial experience. It was a very sad moment. However, the rest of the journey felt predictable and just like any other revenge plot. I was left feeling like the story was padded out to support this instead of feeling like Ellie is going on a journey to find herself in this desolate world without her father figure. This was not helped by the game cutting out half way through to play as the antagonist Abby. While, I would say its different than the way other games approaches this concept. In this case, the decision was made poorly. To ask the player to play as the "bad guy", even if their back story is great is not the correct course the game should go. After gaming as Ellie for so many hours, just felt wrong to play as Abby, even if Abby has a similar back story as well. Ultimately, I felt dreading the experience and just wanted to soldier on, instead on wanting understand Abby's tale. On another note, Abby's side of the story was way too long compared to Ellie's story. It felt too stretched out and prolonging the inevitable. The inevitable climax was not what I expected either. Again the main problem is pacing. Having 2 "ultimate fights" to add more content in the game felt wrong and demoralizing. I my honest opinion, the game should've ended during the farmhouse segment. Instead, they decided to carry out the revenge plot. My question is why, and I'm left wondering when the game will end. On a gameplay perspective, the game has its moments. But overall, there are not as many wow moments that I'm looking forward to. Only the big Zombie glob Rat King boss fight was heart throbbing. The gameplay felt like the last game, just adding a little more to make it feel refreshing. Another issue that TLoU 2 suffers, are the characters. Compared to the last game, I much more than the main characters. Heck, for that matter, I don't know all that much about the main characters either, besides Ellie and Abby. There are not side content that explores their connection to the main characters, making me not care for them that much. This was done much better in TLoU by way of storytelling.

Overall, I would give the game a 5 out of 10, even lower is possible due to minor nit picks. The visuals and character models as well as facial expressions technology was well done, making TLoU 2 one of the most visually stunning games on the PS4. However, the game does suffer through a poorly paced story that came to a high point too fast that results in a predictable and stretched out story just to make this game feel like a big experience. I feel that ND dropped the ball heavily and rushed the game due to corporate pressure as well as the leaks that happened to the game before it was launched. They wanted to get the game out while there is still hype. Sadly, That is where I stand with ND. I feel the developer once an incredible legacy fueled by creativity and imaginative team. Those days feel like its over however.

If I had to point to the biggest narrative misstep in TLOU Part II, I'd note that pain/suffering is not the same as character development, and that the best game designers in the world can't design around a fundamentally poorly-considered and sloppily-executed story. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A flawed masterpiece. It’s not the story I necessarily wanted but it is the story Naughty Dog wanted to tell and I respect that. Dark, overbearing and often bleak but at the same time one of the most memorable and thought-provoking experiences I have had in a game.

Naughty Dog chose to bet everything on succeeding in making the player switch elegance from Ellie to Abby. To have the entire premise of your game rely on this happening is both brave and deliberately divisive but for me it just about worked. Being forced to play as a character you hate or having your character do things that you desperately don’t want them to do is a bold departure from what we have come to expect in many modern games. Player ‘choice’ and player ‘freedom’ have become the de facto gold standard leading developers to deliberately mislead players with choices that are in fact meaningless or to insert superficial ‘alternative’ endings where only one was ever intended. Having the confidence to stand by their narrative choices, no matter how unpopular, should be celebrated and ultimately I feel it remains faithful to the ending of the original. To play a game where you don’t get your way and your expectations are deliberately ignored makes for an often-difficult experience but one I found engaging and worthwhile.

With all that said, this is not a perfect game. The story works hard to portray Abby’s narrative arc as overtly positive and this comes across as unnecessarily heavy handed. I strongly believe it was a mistake to leave the first confrontation in the theatre as a cliff hanger while you play through Abby’s story. Wondering why Abby didn’t kill Ellie would have been the driving force for her section. Instead I wanted to rush through and find out what actually happens, making Abby’s section feel overly long when it really didn’t need to. The game should have also done more with the journeys between Jackson, Seattle and Santa Barbara. The extended road-trip feel of the original turned what was otherwise a string of inconsequential and unconnected events into a coherent narrative. The Santa Barbara section was such a welcome and refreshing change that it made me lament the lack of variety and structure earlier in the game.

It goes without saying that the animations, locations, sound design, and overall artistic presentation of the game is peerless. This is the most beautifully realised world every made in a video game and will be the high-water mark for games going forward. The game play iterates on the original rather than revolutionising it and after seven years it still felt innovative and enjoyable. Systems have been tweaked and levels of complexity have been added which all come together to create an incredibly visceral experience. That said, there were things the original did better. Game resources are too abundant and Abby’s weapon set felt limited compared to Ellie’s, taking away some of the ‘just surviving’ feel that made the original so great. I also missed the varied environmental puzzles and although locations are refreshingly open to begin with, they become progressively more linear as the game progresses.

Taking everything into account I maintain this is a flawed masterpiece. It will drive discussion for years to come and was an unforgettable and thought-provoking experience that I feel deeply conflicted over. I don’t think it was the best story that could have been told but I do respect it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. ok so i know im a bit late to the party, and the game probably dident get better from me playing it with a couple of weeks break in between each sesion, but damn this game was just not able at all to draw me in. and dont get me wrong.

so first of all this game i defenetly not a 0 a 1 or even a 2. it is atleast a 3. but at the same time it is no way near a 10 if the game had cut out about 1/3 of the game/storry and had a nother more "fair" end to it, it might had been like a 7 or at moste an 8

i dident minde Ellie being Lesbian though i felt like it added something pretty meaning less to the "main storry" of the game.
so before i start "bashing" the storry i wloud like to say that i love TLoU1 and the uncharted games with nathan drake as main character, with Uncharted 2 as on of my favorite games ever, and i will get back to this later.

Ok so the game looks great, the gameplays feels nice and all that, but that is simply not enough to make up for the storry. So if i am to be honest i wloud have loved the idear of playing as Joel again, in another grand adventure with him and Ellie, but that was not the case, but i sertainly dont minde playing as Ellie. its actualy kinda nice i would like to say. and i love the flash backs, and would even say thoes are the best part of the game. all the sime wee get to spend with joel and ellie together even though they have their problems they are trying to overcome.

But Ellie has become the strong woamn one would exspect her to become with Joel as her "mentor" and that is nice. so after playing about 10 hours as Ellie in this world that feels a bit like a open wold game but also a bit to small for it to be that. i found the maps to be a bit to big for a linear game and offen found myself runing around to loot everything/check it all out witch ad a lot of time to the game. but at the same time a bit too small.

but then the game comes to the part where it all feels like its about to end with he faceoff between Ellie and Abby and its feels like its about to end in some spectaculair way, wich it probably should have, but it does not do that. and then you have to play like another 10 hours as the villan in withc i was just thinking the whole time "sooo am i soon done with playing as Abby?"

and this i where i come back to the uncharted part. because in uncharte the lost legacy wee get a i got a very simleair experience with Nadime who is made one of the villans of uncharted 4, and i could just not make my self get any sympathie for her in lost legacy, and its the same thing with Abby.
like no matter how sad it is for her that Joel killed her father and all that she still kiled Joel.
and well on top of that they try to make one care for all her "friends" from the WLF witch just feels like a drag.

like you spend a coulpe of hours with Tess in the first game and in that time i got way more attached to her than i got to anyone of the new characters from this game. what im trying to say is that the only "main" characters from this game i care about is Ellie, Joel and Tommy. thats it, i pretty mutch never end up caring about the rest of them.

ok so after playing as Abby for way too long we finaly end up in the spot where wee played as Ellie last, and i was imagening that the game would shift over to playing as Ellie again, but instead after shooting Tommy in the head (witch he aperantly survives) it makes you fight Ellie and damn did i dislike that part even more than everything els in this game. HELL **** YES i disliked that a **** ton.

well with out spoiling too much Ellie and Dina then survives and lives a "peacefull" life for a year or 3 witch also just feel like they are draggin the game/storry out, wich then ends in Ellie leaving to finaly REALY kill Abby.

well the game redeems it self a bit with the last cutscheen with Ellie and Joel talking alone.

soo in conclusion dont by the game, watch it on youtube or someting.

i was really disaponted by it and i had keept my self away from ALL spoilers besidel like a trailer or tow.

if i were to end my review with individual score for the components of the game they wloud be:

    Graphics/music: 9/10

    Gameplay: 7,5/10

    Storry: 3/10

it has some good moments, but it has way more bad ones and that is not something the game can afford and playing at least half a game as a character you dont like is just not enjoyabel.
    i give it a 4 in total.

with it being a game to this price it needs to diliver more than 4-6 hours of good gameplay especaly from a Developer like Naughtydog. sorry

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I give The Last of Us Part II, a solid 6 here’s why:

Although the story of The Last of I give The Last of Us Part II is certainly not a masterpiece from the confusing and overall out of-character Joel’s death is etc..
The gameplay is not one of the best but it surely is an improvement from the first game, with more assessable areas to go through and the more mechanics added.
The graphics are nonetheless astonishing to look at, possibly the best thing of this game, but something it shouldn’t be judged to review a game.

Here’s what I’d rate the game separately from the overall rating:

    Story: 2
    Gameplay: 6
    Graphics: 10

Overall, I really enjoyed playing The Last of Us Part II, even with its confusing story, the gameplay was certainly something enjoyable to play. But it’s not a masterpiece unlike the 1st game.

As good as it gets. Naughty Dog has completed the story with another masterpiece. The complex themes about vengeance and retribution are compelling. The story will stay with me for a long time.

This is a game for adults, and it tries and succeeds in making one think about complex issues. Is it ever morally justified to take a life to save others? Is vengeance ever justifiable regardless

The gameplay and story is okay but not incredible 6/10 but the ending and what looked like an ending brings it down to a 2/10. The ending so so incredible bad that it's impressive and makes you wish it just ended after Ellie and Abby's fight and Ellie settles down on the farm with Dina and the baby... Throughout the game every door and room is blocked and you have to take the loooooong way around which is a joke. Expand

Just a heads up. I didn't really watched any leaks except the one concerning joel. So it was mostly a blind playthrough.

Story.: I enjoyed the story for the most part. I didn't like the first bits of the Abby storyline as the game really tried to push the "look how nice Abby is" narrative (I mean it's fine but it should be done with more finesse, it just felt really dumb to me). I

Story.: I enjoyed the story for the most part. I didn't like the first bits of the Abby storyline as the game really tried to push the "look how nice Abby is" narrative (I mean it's fine but it should be done with more finesse, it just felt really dumb to me). I didn't like some of the secondary characters either. The longer I played however the more I liked the Abby story. I absolutely loved the showdown with Ellie during the last parts of the game. As a whole I felt really engaged through the whole Ellie campaign and I would say 2/3 parts of the Abby story.

Graphics / Sound / Atmosphere.: Simply put, the graphics are one of the best the ps4 can offer, probably the best. The Sound is also great. You can choose between many different options (theater, surround, stereo, headphones). You can even choose the virtual place / angle of your speakers. In general the game has a lot to offer in terms of configurability. There are even several options for handycapped users. The game has a really bleak / dark atmosphere, combined with great sound and graphics that I enjoyed quite a lot.

Gameplay.: I can't say that often enough but you should really play the game on the highest or at least on hard difficulty, no matter what. This makes the game truly special. You will need to scout trough the levels as much as possible due to resources being scarce. Due to this and the smart enemy AI every enemy encounter will be nerve wracking. You will also have more reason to sneak around and use bomb traps for example. Depending on the difficulty I would give the game a higher or lower score, it really has a big impact on the gameplay. Just one more negative point, the companion AI is absolute garbage. Literally got me killed several times (blocked my way, didn't help at all).

Conclusion.: I enjoyed ellies / abbys revenge trip as a whole. The story was dark, brutal and captivating. Some parts could have been executed with more nuance (joel/abby scene, several scenes within first few hours of the abby story) but overall and in addition to the fun gameplay and tight atmosphere it was a great journey.

    Story.: 7
    Graphics / Sound / Atmosphere.: 10
    Gameplay.: 8

    Result.: 8

Cant deny this game looks amazing, combat is faultless and engrossing with the only floor which is very frustrating is the story. Poorly written, very complicated, the characters have no appeal and it feels like the writers forgot about the original. What a shame. Very very dissapinted. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m one of the people who saw all the leaks, both true and false ones, and was completely turned off from buying the game. Not to mention the divisiveness of fans even after release. I didn’t want to tarnish my memory of the amazing first game.

However, due to being bored because of the pandemic, and seeing most of the negative reviews from fans and Youtubers were based off not getting over Joel’s death and straight up bigotry, I decided to buy the game. The only 2 things I regret are looking at the leaks and not getting the Special Edition on launch day. This game is the greatest game I have ever played. So much so that when I heard about the review bombing happening to this game, I felt an obligation to make an account on here and give it my review.

The technical side is pure perfection. This is a next-gen title on a 7 year old piece of hardware. Very little to no glitches at all during my 2 playthroughs of this game. My only complaints are that it’s 30fps and it’s pretty taxing on the PS4, so make sure to give it a clean before playing this amazing game. Graphics and animations are pretty life-like, both during gameplay and cutscenes. The acting is also top-notch. Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Troy Baker and Co. deserve all the awards for best performances in a video game. Along with the set design and the perfect direction of scenes, this game blew anything we’ve had ever outta the water.

Gameplay is also amazing. If you loved the first TLOU’s gameplay, you’ll love this. The crafting has been expanded, the gameplay is a lot more smooth, stealth and combat is way more satisfying, human, stalker, and dog AI is a lot smarter, level design a lot better (best I’ve ever seen tbh) and the bigger variety of types of enemies really adds to the tension of the game. The Encounters here make the first game’s look like a walk in the park. Puzzles are a lot more complex than find the ladder/plank/pallet/dumpster too, so that’s neat, too.

World building is a lot better now, too. There only 4 games where I pay close attention to the collectibles; TLOU, Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy, and this game. Remember the Ish notes from the first game? Now you have multiple interesting note “threads” throughout the game, such as Boris, Jules, and many more! The cards and coins also add to the characterization of Ellie and Abby, so it feels great collecting them too!

Now, for the meat of this game, the story. If you don’t wanna read my whole review on it, just know that I think this is perhaps one of the greatest stories told in any medium, and will be a turning point for storytelling in video games. The story is very dark, and is about the cycle of violence and how tragedy can bring out the worst in people. The characters are extremely human in how they deal with these events. They don’t always make the most rational choices, but they choose to do what they do based on they’re own emotions, and this leads the 2 protagonists of this game, Ellie and Abby, to make grave decisions that doom themselves and the people around them. People tend to forget that to humanize a character isn’t just showing that they have fears, or that they have families and people they love, but also showing that they make morally questionable choices that make them seem like a bad person in other peoples‘ eyes. Doing so isn’t demonizing them, it’s showing how perspective can change EVERYTHING.

Without spoiling to much, the parallels between Ellie and Abby, Abby and Joel, & Ellie and Lev are extremely well done. They are all truly 2 sides of the same coin. Empathy is the name of the game, and the moment I started to allow yourself to empathize with both sides, is the moment everything clicks. The moment I realized that Joel’s killers aren’t “evil” hunters, and are just as guilty/innocent as Ellie and co. by the end of the game, is the moment I realized this is something special. Ellie’s story is about her downfall, and Abby’s is about her redemption. Both have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

It takes the first game’s moral ambiguity to a whole ‘nother level. There truly are no good or bad side. Save for the Rattlers, every faction has a protagonist or an ally to the player. this helps you see their perspective on the world and understand them.

This write-up has gone on for too long, so I’m going to end it with this: BUY THIS GAME, and BUY IT AGAIN ON THE PS5. I cannot recommend it enough. Want a next-gen experience right now? Well, here it is. Just be ready to get you heart crushed, though, especially if you’re as invested in the world as I am. This is personal my best game of the generation and probably of all-time.

Edit: Accessibility for the impaired in this game is something that should be an industry standard. So kudos to Naughty Dog leading the pack.

Stunning visuals, great acting and music, ok gameplay. The writing however is a disgrace and the story is an insult to the original game. The writers went for shock value, perhaps due to lack of creativity or fear to produce nothing better than a mediocre continuation to the beloved first game. They ruined both characters of Joel and Ellie and introduced far weaker new characters. AllStunning visuals, great acting and music, ok gameplay. The writers went for shock value, perhaps due to lack of creativity or fear to produce nothing better than a mediocre continuation to the beloved first game. They ruined both characters of Joel and Ellie and introduced far weaker new characters. All without conveying any significant message. I feel sorry for all the people at Naughty Dog that had to work on this. Shame on the Directors. Expand

Terrible story, even if the gameplay is good, it doesn't compensate over the lack of character development, you see characters do things that they would never do in the 1st game, and playing as Abby is the worse.

It's a next gen game and still is running smoothly on the Ps4. This is my favourite game series and it deserved better ratings. There are some critic points like (SPOILER!!!)

how Joel died or the flashbacks. But they had to do something, that hits your emotions, without anything special happening the game would be boring. What were you guys expecting? A peaceful happy end? Again, the first part was great and the second one is a worthy successor of it. My most favourite games of all time!

Masterpiece. The ending was so evocative and compelling which made me to get deep into the story and think about all the aspects of the plot from every character in the game. we can take the ending as a metaphor for the pandemic that happened in world of the gam. the disease caused this people to all turn into sinners; they all have made big mistakes and at the end, Ellie tries to put all that behind herself and carry on with a new life. Strong music from Santaolalla just like all of his other works. The game is a Masterpiece and a Must Play. Expand

Let's address the elephant in the room. As a sequel to one of the most loved games of all time, the story here is tremendously controversial. As a sequel to one of the most loved games of all time, the story here is tremendously controversial. It takes you down paths that force you to question motivation and justice vs mercy along with the characters in the story. It's a beautifully written story created to make you feel torn. Nobody will finish this game with a smile on their face, even if you loved it the way my brother and I did. But I do assure you that the critics talking about plot holes and bad story decisions are wrong. They either don't get it, or fell into what naughty dog was trying to do to deeply. It's supposed to be hard. There are no happy endings in this post apocalyptic world.

The gameplay was leagues ahead of it's predecessor. Rarely does combat feel so smooth. It often looks as if each move you make is scripted. Dodging and striking and running all happen exactly as you want them to, and the kills are always satisfying. My only real critique is not big enough to drop my score from 5 stars. The lootingnand exploration can be excessive. Skill and gear progression is based on exploration and looting. If you don't look in every corner you will miss out on abilities, weapons or upgrades. Overall it's a masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Extremely good story with a great mix of action, emotion and character development. I could play this games over and over again and never get bored. The pace of the story is set right from the off and the action begins from Joel’s death to when you fight Abby all the way at the end, it was a real rollercoaster and it made me want to play the game more and more. It was simply a masterpiece the development team did a superb job.

The game itself is so clean and the environment is so crisp and it looks absolutely amazing and it matches much to what the developers had promised us fans. Much to my surprise I don’t understand why this game is getting so much hate. Sure it might not be the game we all wanted (I sure wanted this level of game though) but it was the game we all needed. I hope TLOU3 is definitely the next project Naughty Dog are whipping up because I can’t wait to play as Ellie my favorite games character ever. It was an absolute pleasure to play such an incredible game and I commend Naughty Dog for what they have done!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While I could do with a slightly smaller game, this is a great game. The director has tried very hard to show multiple perspectives and he has managed it.
I read a review which rated the game 0 because " killing Joel were wrong because any father that was in his place would have done the same thing". Well, I agreed with that sentiment completely in the first game since I would have done the same. However, with Abby's play-through I understood her motivations as well. The faceless monsters about to operate on Ellie became humanized and I could sympathize with their motivations.
Also, I understood why Abby "would kill Joel - because he killed the only family she had remaining".
The motivations are no longer back or white, just shades of grey. Beautiful game about revenge and how it consumes you and also about learning to let go.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us part 2 lacks nuance.

This story may seem like it's about revenge... but it's a tale about forgiveness. As the player you immediately hate certain characters and want blind revenge.
In the end it all comes together and wants to show you that no matter what happened, you can still forgive people and find peace in yourself, even without fulfilling your vengeance; which wouldn't leave you satisfied anyway. If we're all driven by revenge, we will never find peace. Find it in your heart to forgive your enemies.

Up until the ending, the entire game is filled with death; useless and mostly without purpose. I didn't feel for most of the characters; like at all. Jesse was, for example, a funny, witty and like-able character. He was killed off with a snap. Soooo... okay??? Super edgy...

There's a HUGE disconnect between the story they wanted to tell and how they told it and what it ended up making the player feel. The game made me feel like **** throughout about 60% of it. Not sure if that was the goal, but you can't tell me a game is great when I just want the 'pain' to end and see the ending. I waited 7 years, was hyped for more than 2 of those, just to literally sit there and consciously WANT the game to end... Yikes.

It feels like I'm playing for a message; not the story in of itself. Also, you can't tell me they were so passionate when they left behind (no pun intended) multiplayer, just to have the only thing being a message shoved down our throats, because that's what the whole thing boils down to: Revenge bad.

As it's own, standalone experience: Very strong 5 for me.
As a sequel to the first one: Probably a 1 or 2. If you did things well in the first one, you have to be criticized if the sequel doesn't manage to at least do what the first one did.

I feel like a moron for judging something before having finished it, although human beings are easily manipulated and the illusion of choice and cleverness can be achieved with the right knowledge.

Also, what the **** is up with the **** and manipulative trailers??? Non-pre-rendered cutscenes are dangerous man. Go back and change things without any amount of effort...

But to say one thing about the story, i *did* like the ending and was almost yelling at my screen 'please stop!'. I think the game is too long. There is a part where i litteraly put down my controller beause i expected the credits to start rolling, but then they didn't. That annoyed me, and i rushed through the last parts.
I liked that the game -which is made by a developer who does this in other games- never gets into Hollywood action style territory, but is always holding back from that. I played the game on Hard, which was a decent balance, except for one or two occasions being completely out of ammo, while at a few others feeling a little overpowered.

A game that is way too centered around unnecessary agenda that should not be prioritized in a game. A game should deliver its player base enjoyment, not force some views upon them. This game destroys the Original Franchise and is one of the if not the worst sequels to a wonderful first Part. Last of us 2 is truly a bad game.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
