I was never so disappointed with a game as I am with The Last of Us Part ii. The game falls flat on the face in the story department and as the story is what the game is all about therefore I don't recommend it to anyone who cares about characters! The waste of money in comparison to the first part.

Expand

I cannot recommend this game enough. Furthermore, I imagine the negative review spamming for this game comes from a large community of neckbeards who are unable to cope with their narrow view of the world. Their fragile egos were shattered by the creative direction this game went, rather than it sticking to their myopic expectations. Cheers!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finally finished this game and I must say that this is one of the best game I've ever played. The game is so dark and brutal which is why this is one of my favorite game now. It's sad to see so many 1 ratings and most of these people have problems with how a character look physically and that their favorite character Joel dies. I loved Joel, he was my favorite character too but characters die that's how some stories are written and that's what make a story good and I think writers made the right decision to kill Joel the way it happened. Abby's character had great character development. Seriously can't understand people giving this 1 rating. This is a story about revenge and forgiveness, maybe put aside your personal problems with how a character look and how they should look or character orientation and maybe then you'll see how great the storytelling is and the message behind the story.
The gameplay is satisfying and graphics were unbelievable. The level of detail in every single scene is on the next level. I just stared at the environment in every scene I entered. I think this is the best post apocalyptic world I have ever seen, better than the zombie movies.

Naughty dog literaly abused joel to bait us, to suck our money out our pockets, cause they knew nobody wouldve bought the game if we, the audience, the fanbase knew ,the game was about emo- ellie and gorilla-abby. Also they made him dump and naive af, because they didnt come up with any better ideas of creating a plot. none of the characters choices made any sense and the ending also makes no sense at all, this is abuse and violation to the name of the last of us.
i dont even wanna give one single point to the graphics or the gameplay because after the story and the characters got raped like that, neither the graphics or the gameplay make any difference at this point

I steadily finished the game at 27 hours. I need to make a remark here: I am not against LGBT nor do I particularly adore it. We are all people, aren't we? What I do not like is when instead of telling a story people try to attach some agenda to it and make it look like it was always there. In other words when it is not sincere. Now back to the game.

First thing that you notice is the graphics. It is clearly the best looking game of its generation. I don't need to tell you that at the same time it does not freeze and it does not have loading screens apart from initial one, though it takes a staggering amount of your hard drive.
Gameplay has evolved since the first game: you can dodge, brawl is more viable than in the first game. YOu can craft more things and instead of scarce manuals you have about 5 skill trees with 5 skills in it. All the skills are passive, but useful. Upgrading weapons looks really neat: all modernizations are visible and character performs them real life style.
The most controversial thing is game plot. I really tried to avoid spoilers before playthrough and actually managed to do it. Now, when I have finished the game, I have to say, that the plot is mostly good. The scenes are built in a way that you sometimes left hanging and wandering how this situation ends, but plot drives you through many events leading to this, showing you different perspectives before you see its end. It drives you mad, but in a good way, just like in crime novel when you see many interesting events, but still want to get to the end faster to find out what happens. That is definitely a good pacing and the most story complicated and diverse game for Naughty Dog. The bad thing here is that there are many chapters that you go through alone and it makes them somewhat tedious, because there are no dialogues, no inner dialogue, just silence and action/exploration. There is a reason for that, but it still looks like somewhat step back from first game where characters were always chatting about something.
I felt that the game is somewhat easier on the HARD difficulty, than the first game. Maybe I am just more experienced after beating the first Last of Us. Going back to the LGBT agenda I have to say that it surely does not take the central part of the plot, actually not even near. That is why it saddens me so much to see so many angry reviews where people refer to the game only as a lesbian-agenda-game. It is as if you say that Max Payne is only about f-ng subway. The important part for me is, going back to what I said in the beginning, here relationships are shown in sincere way. which is important for me.
Mostly I have to show respect to Neil Drukmann for making it a non-compromise second part of a two-part story instead of making a standard sequel, that we see every year in October-November.
I think, that most people would love the game, that is only if you are open to new experience, though if you want something particular and feel uncomfortable having something differ from what you expect, you might not be interested. Good luck to everyone reading this, hope you have a great day!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The biggest disappointment in my gaming years.
The Last of Us is one of my favorite games of all time. I really like the games from Naughty Dog so there is no hate towards the company neither Neil Druckmann. BUT! I CAN'T STAND THE FAKE MARKETING YOU DID WITH THIS GAME. That was a low-punch to the fans of the series and should be penalized in some way.
Story was so forced and unenjoyable. They relayed on cheap "shock factor" moments that became more of a meme at times.
Gameplay was brutal. But did not innovate that much from the first game, but still! is fun as hell! The graphics and scenery are beautiful! Best I have seen in years.
Sound design was top notch too.
The lack of new infected is just sad. I really feel they could have created more of them, but no. We get a couple new ones and a boss. (That boss fight was particularly good)
Secondary characters are forgettable and you do not get to connect with them at all. The ones coming from the first game do not act like them anymore and that will infuriate you if you are a fan of the 1st game.
I get that they tried "something different" but in this case it didn't worked at all. It felt more of a chore to start my PS4 and continue with the game.
It's sad that the characters from the first one are left with nothing. Their character development was thrown into the trash in exchange of the new ones.
I cannot recommend this game at all if you're a fan of TLOU1. It will be a waste of $60.
TLOU is a story-driven game. And when the story is that bad, you can't put a good mark on it even if the gameplay/sound design/scenery are incredible.

Hope to never see part 3.

Really good acting, story and maybe some of the best graphics I 've seen so far.

I get why a lot of people did not like the ending or the killing of a major character in the beginning of the game. Nevertheless there is no doubt that this is a great game. When I finished it I felt pretty empty inside. One side of me wanted Aby to die and one side of me wanted her to survive. I also felt the same for Ellie. Why should she get to survive after all she has done to so many good people?
I think it was the ending that the game needed but maybe not the one I really wanted. I don't really know.
The above feelings is exactly why this game is so amazing. It makes you feel stuff for the antagonist, it makes you question your own loyalty to the protagonist and it makes you question revenge, even if the end feels like you just saw a Lanthimos movie and your heart is about to fall in the darkest place ever.
This is not a classic Denzel Washington movie and should never be one, where revenge is a dish served cold. It is freaking warm and you can feel how much revenge is about doing bad things no matter how much you need it.

I feel that the bad user score this game has got is because of the lack of objectiveness in the gamer community or maybe in the world in general. Maybe that was the point of Naughty Dog's game from the beginning: to play on the objectiveness of people.

To conclude I think this is a must play game.
You will either love it or hate it or feel empty inside, just like me.

This franchise was known for its emotional and complex storytelling, and the story transcended identity politics. This latest edition utterly falls completely flat. I have been a naughty dog fan since the crash bandicoot days, but after seeing how little talent Neil and the ND remnants (most of the talent has left or was forced out) have for crafting compelling and coherent stories, I am going to be extremely weary of ND titles going forward. I want to get one thing out of the way that really upset me, and that is the false advertising and marketing that this game has: some of the trailers give out a completely different idea of what to expect from the final product, and that includes showing scenes that are not present anywhere in the game, this is a huge disrespect for your consumers as you are tricking them into spending money for something that doesn't exist, I get what they were trying to do as a marketing strategy, playing with our emotions even before the game is released but there is a line that you do not cross, and that is showing us false material, this is the top reason why I was so let down with Naughty Dog and the overall package. That being said, I enjoyed the story for the most part, it made me cry more than once and I felt really compelled to see it through to the end, however there are some issues regarding pacing, plot holes and inconsistent character motivations that do not match with what was already established in the first game, I cant convince myself that these are small problems because they took me away from the experience, specially when I remember how magical the first entry was storywise.
i've been around since the PS1 days and can honestly say that gameplay, graphics, animations, presentation and sound design are hands down the best ive seen so far in any video game, I often found myself in various moments just stopping the journey to appreciate the attention to detail of the enviourments, or replaying cutscenes to see the facial expressions and body language of the characters, really a remarkable achievment from a technical standpoint.
To sumarize, this is a great game on its own merits, with a very unique, different and interesting way of telling a tale of right and wrong, how perspective alone can make you sympathize with a character dispite his/her actions. But, as a sequel to one of the best games of all time, it delivers an experience that is nowhere near as good as the first one. In the end of the day, I would recommend buying and investing 30 hours into it. Hope this was helpful.

My problem is story and gameplay. The game plays like it's 2012, controlling Ellie feels like driving a tank. Between that, the close up camera and 20-30 FPS this game doesn't feel fun to play. I didn't have this problem with RE2, but maybe because it was 60FPS on PC, not sure.

The story.....wow. I'll be nitpicky here but everything adds up. Starting minute 1, characters are low energy like their on melatonin or something. I get their setting a depressing tone, but there has to be someone that I like. They go into school drama with Dina kissing Ellie, but Ellies not sure, and Jessie dated Dina but he's cool with Ellie and Dina, but the bartender is a bigot, and on and on....it's torturous. You didn't give me a reason to care about these low energy, grumpy characters, why would I care about their relationships?

They try to remedy that with Ellie and Dina's dialogue while progressing through the game but for some reason neither of them interest me. Their both kinda boring, corny jokes, just nothing interesting to say. It's weird because you'd think they'd have a lot of cool stories but they don't.

The other character is a trainwreck, she's basically Sasuke in Naruto times 10. Not sure why I'm supposed to care about her.

I think 4/10 is fair, maybe higher if you enjoy the gameplay. The story is a slog, pacing bad, unlikable characters, etc. Good set pieces and visuals but it's not worth it.

When I heard Ellie was to be the main character I was pretty bummed out already, as I didn’t enjoy the dlc to the original game. This game completely changes Ellie’s character from everything she stood for in the first. Terrible way to tie up Joel’s story and maybe Ellie’s to. Play the first one multiple times but don’t play this it’ll ruin the whole experience of the first!! Expand

Went into the game blind after hearing a lot of criticism. Overall I think the game has an excellent gameplay, mechanics, weapons, approaches to the encounters are all great. But if a sequel were to happen, this is the only direction I think it could have gone. The story's structure isn't traditional in any sense. It is non-linear and follows multiple timelines that intersect. It is a story about grief, and about finding peace and meaning in life. I can only say approach the game with an open mind, and take breaks to process some of the bigger parts of the story. This game takes risks and tells an amazing story. Expand

It kept all the brilliant things about the first part, music, revolutionary graphics, gameplay, voice actors, etc. The story is all about the impact joel did in the first part. All the traumas and all of the lifes ruined he left. But most important it's about regaining humanity, witch this universe lacks of it. That is, because I believe truly masterful crafted arts is going to piss people off by it’s nature. It creates discussion, discomfort even. It’s a kind of “breaking the rules”, shaking up the established, creating something new. And TLOU2 surely isn’t something, that is made to make people happy, or to bring them joy or even “entertain” them. Which is what most games try to achieve: that positive loop of challenges and achievements, that flow, where you feel empowered and that world, where the rules are easy and you are on the good guys side fighting evil.

TLOU2 is really more than that, because it takes you on an extreme emotional journey of violence, hate and trauma and you as a player will suffer through it. It’s nothing I would recommend someone with a mental health issue and I would actually like to see a trigger warning for the game. The reason why I’m almost disappointed by the very negative reviews is, that most of these people really don’t understand, what they are actually feeling. They do not understand, that this game made them feel so utterly furious and heartbroken, that they couldn’t cope with it. And instead of embracing a game so powerful, that it creates real world emotional pain, they try to marginalise it. I think it is even understandable, that people hate something, that is masterfully designed to make you feel so much sorrow and pain, but this is also, what makes it so exceptional.

There is only once in a while a piece of art, that is as strong, bold and intense as TLOU2 and I don’t want people to miss it, because of immaturity.

Amazing game. Much more mature than the first, both in plot as well as the level of violence. I think that most of the people who criticize this game didn’t actually finish it. I don’t see how you could play the entire game and make the complaints that people are making. And if they did, they’re missing the point of the game entirely.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked the game but didn’t love it. At times it was everything you could want. At other times, it felt like a hard slog. I think it could have been reduced by 4/5 hours.

There were clearly a lot of ideas that were put into the game; some great, some not so great. Fair play to ND for expanding TLOU universe but they could have probably held some ideas back. Part 2 improves on everything except the story and pacing for me. It was never going to be easy to top Part 1 either.

Part 1 flowed better because you play it mostly as Joel, with Ellie by your side. It progresses nicely towards its conclusion. You care a lot more about the characters and what happens to them.

Even so, I can understand why Joel was killed. It gave the game purpose. The manner in which he died has clearly infuriated people and I can understand that. Joel wasn’t perfect by any means but we rooted for him. I’m not sure if we were supposed to ever like Abby. I think playing as Abby was purely to try and understand her struggles and what she had been through. We have to remember that she has lost people too.

For me, I would have preferred to play Day 1 as Ellie, then Day 1 as Abby and so on, so forth. There was such a big moment in Ellie and Abby finally meeting after the death of Joel and then we kind of lost that momentum as we were forced to play as Abby for a long period of time and go through parts of her story.

What TLOU does well is show us that there are no heroes or villains. People are just trying to endure and survive. The level of detail is incredible and one of the best additions to Part 2 was hearing people scream out their friends name when you took them out. It added weight to the decisions you were making.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Parte 2 es la última entrega de Naughty Dog, y a pesar de su poco tiempo en el mercado una de las más grandes.
Lanzado el 19 de junio de 2020, The Last of Us 2 a causado mucha controversia entre los usuarios y la prensa con su impactante historia y narrativa.

    Historia y Narrativa:

' I want to play more' 8 - Immersive Challenging - From Rouges to Souls, you know them when you see them. You care about your characters. These are done so well you start reflecting on the artists who made the game and appreciate their craft at every turn. 9 - Immersive Tough - Sekiro, it is the only game I hold in this regard.
10 - Godly. It has not been made yet. “best game ever’
I watched a full play through of this game.
I was considering buying it at first, but I figured I would enjoy it more without wasting money on garbage. It is a cinematic game with a 'fetch' simulator, a jank guitar mini-game, and occasionally zombie shooting/stealth. 35% of the time is cut-scenes or like 10 out of 30 hours.
    Characters/Story
When people play games they want relate to the main character. That’s why I enjoy RPGs so much, the more you can customize your character the better. You want to be friends or enemies with different NPCs - cool; it's fun when you're making your character in the image that you desire. It’s fun to raid others, but it sucks when you get ganked. It’s fun to be selfish, but when someone else is it can become a problem for you quick. Likewise, when a developer’s character is selfish it will depend on how much you relate to them to either side with them or be put off by them. The less they are like you or your ideal protagonist, the more you don't want to be around them.
Ellie is not like-able. One of the first scenes is Ellie waking up to some guy knocking on her door who is “not upset man" that Ellie was hooking up with the girl he just broke up last week (yeah, he does get the little ‘man’ micro-aggression in there, just… supreme dialogue). Then she gets mad at him for pretending to not be cool with it. She then walks to her new GF, Dina, who is passive aggressive towards Ellie for 'interrupting' her.
Instead of using the initial pieces of dialogue for exposition to the world, they use it to set up this drama character dynamic which is … weird to say the least, but more importantly, usually not why I play games. Drama is a supplemental, it’s good if you can pull it off, but make me care about the world and the characters in it before trying to make me care about their personal (non-zombie survivor) problems.
Anyway, then Ellie and her GF smoke weed and have some CG foreplay (just why? like c’mon), before the same guy from before comes in and gets mad at them for smoking weed and not being on patrol. Joel is missing.
So as a gamer... I'm sitting here thinking... you're supposed to be patrolling and protecting these people, but you’re getting high and about to have sex while Joel is getting kidnapped.

This is the point where I hit anti-immersion. I start to think, why would you intentionally craft a story where the character is messing around while the other is getting set-up to be killed. Like the hero wants to get high and have sex, not patrol the city, because that’s how the hero is. For example, later in the game Ellie’s GF Dina is pregnant, and they were just smoking weed. Like fair, Dina maybe didn’t know she pregnant, but the writers know. So why write in a pregnant woman smoking weed?
And guess what... then Joel gets killed like a punk. Some loser just clobbers him with like a golf club. Like if you want more story, here it is - she seeks revenge and doesn’t get it. They got rid of one of the protagonists, I feel like the natural place would be to dive deeper into the relationship they have and the hardships of survival, but its stops right there at the beginning, not even 10% of the way into the game, feels like developers are rick rolling me at this point
Pacing –35% of game is cut scenes and I’m here to game, not watch a movie. After getting dragged through a scene, you then have the luxury of going on these hour long ‘fetch’/ ‘fake puzzles’
Gameplay/Enemies - Nothing for like an hour, then a short cluster, for a couple minutes then back to the dull ‘grind.’ They should at least be peppered in, they are only there to make you feel like you ‘did something’ before getting to the next cut-scene. Controllers, combat, and platforming are plain status quo which is not good enough.
Quality – It is smooth and it looks good. When you have the budget, there is no reason not to. It is on par with modern games, but it is not cutting edge.
Conclusion –Buy Terraria, you won’t be disappointed.

I really felt for both sides, but was with Ellie till the very end. Many people obviously don't understand real hatred, when they don't believe that Ellie would go again even when her life is perfect. Also, many people don't get loyalty, friendship and family when they saw Joel as a bad man for killing the fireflies.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let’s address the elephant in the room first: there’s little doubt that this game’s prominent LGBT characters have led many professional reviewers to rate this game much higher than it deserves. My problem with this game isn’t that the playable characters are all women, or that it has LGBT characters. My problem is that the game is too long (around 25 hours), but the gameplay is not challenging or varied enough to keep it interesting.

The appeal of Last of Us was the story: the relationship between Joel and Ellie. The gameplay was OK, not great, but the game only lasted 12 or so hours. This game is double the length, and retains all the same core gameplay elements as the first one. About 15 hours in, it just started to feel tedious. Another abandoned building to search for supplies, another group of infected or human enemies to fight using the same tactics. There’s almost no variety here. The story is OK, but nowhere near as compelling as the first. A big reason for this is that half the game is spent as the new character, Abby. There’s no getting around the fact that we simply don’t care about her as much as we do Ellie. In addition, the human groups in this game are thinly sketched. There is very little information on how these groups formed, their purposes/intents/beliefs, why they are fighting each other, etc. It’s all very vague and very thinly sketched. One group seems to be vaguely power-hungry, the other a bunch of religious zealots whose beliefs are barely explored at all beyond vague gesturing to their “prophet.” This religious group is also the hook for the introduction of the trans character: the trans character was a member of the religious group, but fled because they wouldn’t accept her. That’s about as uncompelling, standard Hollywood fare/boilerplate as you can get. It

It seems clear now that Last of Us should have been a standalone game. It did not need a sequel and this game is nowhere near as interesting as the first one. My advice would be, don’t waste your time.

People who rated this game as bad probably were expecting a fairy tale, where Joel would be treated as the hero. Who could ever thought that playing as person who killed Joel and Jesse will be good idea??? I've played Ellie campaign on one sit and can't make myself to go through second part of game, It's unplayable for me. Every cell of my body says don't play this game. I hate Abby so much, I don't care about her story, I wish only to see her dead. Not even mentioning that she looks like freaking gorilla. Reviewing as 0 because I'm not able to finish this game. I think that this sequel has not brought justice to the original characters. While I've appreciated some sequences, the choices that Ellie made during her quest for revenge doesn't make you feel you're really into her inner struggles. And for the new characters... Una obra maestra de la ignominia, un "juego" triste que entristece al que lo juega, y que contiene todos los ingredientes que han llevado a esta sociedad y muy especialmente a las mujeres al sufrimiento y la división.

Great music and visuals are the only redeeming feature.
If you are fan of Joel and Ellie relationship, you will be disappointed.
Game had incredible potential, that falls flat because of uninteresting new characters, weird plot pacing and awful ending

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think this game did almost everything right. Every twist and turn in the story every grueling moments or fate the characters had to endure I really felt all their emotions. Which to say could be something someone dislikes because this game is not easy on your psyche. I really felt everything that went into this game, all the emotions and all character motivations. The one and only part I disliked was one issue I had with the pacing of the game. If you want to make people feel empathy for someone (in this case Abby) you have to build up the character and their motivations. This was in some way the case with Abby however you only got to know her truly after she had already killed Joel, which was the biggest turnoff for some people in this game. If we had felt her suffering and had had the ability to put ourselves into her mindset the players would have understood her better. But apart from that this game is flawless and since this pacing issue didn't affect me I'm giving TLOU2 a full 10/10. Expand

This is a solid 8.5 game but I gotta give it the 10 to balance all the unjustly given 0s. Honestly, the only game's weakness is that Abby's part of the game isn't more about Ellie (she should be inversely hunting Ellie as she sees the destruction she's caused) and that we don't switch off between the characters more often (it wasn't great to play the first half as Ellie and then rewind allThis is a solid 8.5 game but I gotta give it the 10 to balance all the unjustly given 0s. Since this is a story game and the whole gameplay is built around the story, we can say for sure that this is a failure. The narrative is poorly structured. The motivation of some of the characters looks contrived and inadequate as well as their actions. At the end of the game, you have a feeling of wasted time. The gameplay has not changed since part 1. He got better, but nothing more.

It made what he did at the end of Last of us 1 matter even more. Great game, couldn't believe how big it was. My only reservation was having to play against Ellie as a boss. That was a step too far for me. Really hope there is a last of us 3 in development. Expand

While in a personal subject opinion one could question some of the decisions made by the developers , there is no question that this game is a masterpiece. The narrative of Last of Us 2 is among the very best that gaming can accomplish, rivalizing with Oscar worthy cinema.

Overall I think it’s a great game! But sometimes the story felt a little bit messy and sometimes the game felt a little bit too long and dragged out. But the gameplay, design, sound, lighting and the total look of the game was amazing! The story can sometimes be very dark and maybe take some turns that feel wrong and I don't agree with. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
