    It's a huge slap on the face for anyone who enjoyed TLOU. I consider it the worst disappointment in gaming history. If you don't care at all about the story, then maybe you could enjoy the combat and the world of the game. However, if you care about the story, which is what should've made this game special in the first place, then you should probably avoid it. I'm deeply hurt after seeingIt's a huge slap on the face for anyone who enjoyed TLOU. I consider it the worst disappointment in gaming history.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For context, I played this game around a month ago and I didn't even particularly want to play this game this year but with all the negative opinions of this game, I just had to play it.

    Story (Spoiler Free)
    (I'll tell you when I'm about to talk about other aspects of the game)

    The first hour or so with this game is honestly perfect and feels like it is about to set up a perfect sequel to the first game but it soon strays from this path to make a different story, a potentially good story but the writing falls a little flat and character relationships feel like they're ripped out of a soap drama which is tone-deaf to what the plot really should have set out to accomplish.

    Looking at characters from the soap drama perspective it becomes clear that Neil Druckman wanted to subvert expectations in a more realistic and grounded sort of way which can make the story appear to be disingenuous to itself and what has come before often leaving behind great characters but rarely great dialogue between them and very little sense of any meaningful relationship between them.

    But occasionally the game does reach the same heights of the original on a few levels, if you asked me how much of the game reached the heights of the first game I'd say round it to 1/3rd.

    Is the story bad? no. but a lot of the foundations are struggling to hold it up and coming off of the back of The Last of Us 1 and Uncharted 4 it's a little disappointing that the story doesn't hold up.

    It's neither good nor bad.

    Graphically the game is beautiful, there's nothing really to say here, the cinematography is incredible and has its own style.

    The gameplay is top tier, a lot like the first game in that it's not deep but not overly simple, not to say it plays similar to the first but in the Survival Horror genre of gaming no other game tops this in terms of how polished the core mechanics are and I shouldn't have to explain, after all, it is a Naughty Dog Game.

    Honestly, it's kinda stupid how people take something so ridiculous as having a favorite character and trying their best to ensure that a particular character is the holy grail of the series, I feel like I've played many games where a particular character dies in s similar fashion where people haven't taken it so personally (not to insinuate that anybody should take the death of a particular character personally at all) and I find this whole "THE GAME IS BAD CUZ X, Y, Z CHARACTER DIES" argument immature and honestly dumb, the game has flaws but that isn't one of them, it's evidence of a deeper problem that the story faces and that is kinda mid-tier character writing and conflicting tonality. If you're on the fence wait a year until this game is cheaper or don't rush to play it, play it in your own time and on your own morals.    … Expand

    Przepiękna, zjawiskowa, pełna emocji, brutalna z niesamowitym klimatem kontynuacja. Przepiękny świat. Jeśli chodzi o zarys fabularny to ja osobiście nie mam sie do czego przyczepić. Pewne wątki były do przewidzenia.

    Es gibt zu viele die dieses Spiel nicht verstehen und nicht verstehen das das schlechte Gefühl was man teilweise beim Spielen hat vom Spiel genau so hervor gerufen werden soll. Traurig den es ist ein Meisterwerk.

    It is hilarious to see those ridiculous haters lose their **** when watching a ground-breaking game leaded by a lesbian and a muscular female figure. Sorry to disappoint you, but we are getting sick to watch another mundane episode of a middle-aged man slashing a way out to triumph. It broke my heart to watch Joel died though. Bravo Naughty Dog!

    Nearly two months past but I still couldn't move out from the beautiful story, characters and graphics this fantastic game brings on me. It will be a revolutionary gem in game history for it is the first time we have literally have female protagonists dominate an AAA game. Thank you Neil, Hayley and Naughty Dog for the aesthetic joy I gained from TLOU2.

    A testament to the advancements of the game industry. There are some plot holes, sure, but the overall storytelling and character development are great. The ambience, animations and game play are second to none. Pacing is spot on.

    This game has stunning graphics, an interesting story because it teaches us to be open minded and have a complicated drama. The gameplay is also very good with lots of new enemies and new infected. I hope The last of us part 2 becomes the game of the year 2020. Thank you naughty dog.

It’s frustrating that this game is so polarizing, but I presume this was Druckmann’s intentions and that he accomplished what he wanted to accomplish. I fall into the camp that was thoroughly disappointed with the story and plot. I agree that cinematics and music is stunning, and I disagree with those that say the gameplay wasn’t a step up. I liked the game mechanics and noticed improved transitions and sequencing in combat. In order to try and overcome my biases and emotions, I have read a bunch of positive reviews to see why others thought so highly of the game. What I have noticed is a trend of those who have little connection to TLOU original characters; they either played the original for the first time recently (or not at all), or the original was not their favorite game of all time, like it is for those of us who were disappointed by the storyline in TLOU2. And let’s be honest, review bombing goes both ways - a lot of these 10/10 reviews have no substance, which is telling that they were not emotionally connected to the story or are accounts created to try and offset the 0/10 reviews (which makes it hard to believe they are real reviews). Naughty Dog, you absolutely crushed us. This was the wrong story to use as a platform to examine the cycle of violence and its consequences. TLOU story was so impactful because there was hope in Joel and Ellie’s story in a desolate, hopeless world, and it was in that hope that ALL of us diehard fans found “something to fight for”. There is no hope in the storyline of TLOU2 - the revenge plot and its execution was way too easily contrived, characters decisions are forced to align to the plot’s revenge theme, rather than the characters driving the storyline and the forgiveness shown at the end by Ellie is hollow, forced, unbelievable and used as a cheap literary solution to attempt to give the whole story justification. I admit that I didn’t want to kill Abby at the end either, but it wasn’t because I was somehow newly sympathetic for her character, story and it’s arc; I was emotionally exhausted and just wanted the game to end. The characters I cared about had already been bastardized and were broken beyond repair and hopeless by this point. We the diehard fans of the original story deserve better than what was given. The story was absolutely not one “deserving of Joel and Ellie” as Druckmann promised, and a video game - a 3rd person shooter, Story- driven, apocalyptic, survival game - should not have been the vehicle to examine the cycle of violence/“revenge is bad motif”. Especially one that takes 40 hours to complete and leaves you emotionally hollow upon completion. I implore those who feel as I do to leave reviews like this in hopes that it will somehow hold ND accountable to its previous high standard of game development and prevent something like this from happening again.… Expand

    First things first, the graphics are amazing and probably the best of this console generation. The gameplay was ok, there were really fun times with combat and shooting but there are some areas of the game that feel stretched out.     Gameplay was well executed, but nothing new or original. I did enjoy the beats this game picked up and improved upon from the first. Gone are the weak puzzles, and escort missions. The story is the main center point of this game, and it doesn’t disappoint. A little heavy handed, but very enjoyable.

But the way the story flows is very abrupt leaving the player without any real time to appreciate the smaller things. And when you play as Abby 1/3 the way through the game it gives no warning to it. And the ending has to be the worst pay off of all time. Ellie's fails to get revenge, loses her fingers and, can't even play her guitar. And in the final flashback it's revealed that her and Joel were able to start rebuilding a working relationship as psuedo father-daugter and it's really out of order when you put it into perspective. I just wish it had a better way of portraying parallels between Ellie and Abby without shoving it in your face. Also why is Mel going on missions pregnant?!! There's no reason for her to be anywhere else but to be home relaxing and waiting for the baby to arrive.… Expand

I wouldn't argue that a lot of the plot depends on very deus ex machina moments, but I think that's true of most video games and films. Every Uncharted game has been absolutely littered with it, yet somehow it's just now become a problem. Either way, I love the plot in it's entirety. I don't really know what anyone elseI sincerely just fail to see what is so bad about this games plot.     The people who rated this badly did so because of American identity politics. Most of them would have never finished the game in the time it took them to review it. They're annoyed because the main character is gay. If you're like me and you only care if the game is good or not, then buy it. I can honestly say that it's terrific. Best buy in a while.

For me its not logical and very chaotic. The fight at the end was pointless and generally the ending is not fulfilling enough after all of the slaughter that has been served before it.     It's not terrible, it's not great, a solid 5 IMO. There's a lot to have fun with, game play is improved... But the story is where it falls apart, it doesn't fit something that should have mass appeal, I feel like the story was written for a niche group of people that like artsy(?) miserable stories, which is why I think it got so much backlash.

    Mundo totalmente inmersivo, graficamente lo mejor que he jugado en PlayStation, muestra la belleza de la naturaleza postpandémica a un nivel de detalle increible.
    Gameplay continuista pero muy mejorado, no esperaba algo diferente, asi que para mi continuista y mejorado fue lo ideal, juegas con dos personajes (no me.parece spoiler si no algo que ND debió decirte en su marketing) en la    Mundo totalmente inmersivo, graficamente lo mejor que he jugado en PlayStation, muestra la belleza de la naturaleza postpandémica a un nivel de detalle increible.
    Gameplay continuista pero muy mejorado, no esperaba algo diferente, asi que para mi continuista y mejorado fue lo ideal, juegas con dos personajes (no me.parece spoiler si no algo que ND debió decirte en su marketing) en la campaña, cada uno con sus habilidades y armas.
    Al igual que su antecesor puedes elegir si irte a lo sigiloso o a lo rambo, en cualquier modo te aseguro diversión y estrés (nivel survival horror) garantizado, tiene nuevas mecánicas como esquivar en los combates c/c, arrastrarse cual solid snake, usar cuerdas para moverse
    Hablando de cuerdas, las animaciones son lo mejor que he visto en un videojuego, las cuerdas, los movimientos de los protas en los combates y las animaciones faciles, son un lujo y para nada envidian una super producción de pelicula animada.
    El gusto por la historia es subjetiva y aquí voy a poner mi arenita, No hagan caso donde lean que en este Videojuego las cosas no tienen sentido!     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is a masterpiece, but I simply don't like it. And I get why people don't. Here are the biggest issues I have with the game:
    1. Yes, killing Joel is important to the narrative and it gives the players the motivation to go on a revenge quest. The problem is that unlike in the first game, people aren't playing as the character (Ellie), they're playing as themselves. Ellie's choice to not kill Abby was a good one, but it still feels really unsatisfying. I actually like extremely dark and grim games, but one thing I can't stand is an unsatisfying piece of media, because to do something unsatisfying I can just do things in real life. If they had killed someone the player isnt that attatched with, eg. Dina, and/or if Joel was crippled in the act, I think the game would've been liked by more people. And I say this with pain because they gays always get **** in the story and I hate that **** But I get it, Naughty Dog wanted to try something new. And the narrative about the Fireflies wouldn't be the same without the death of Joel. I guess its a catch-22. So, I recommend that you play the game with a cold head.

    2. What the **** is up with Abby's part? Yeah I get it, she's a complex character and not all bad, but why does she start killing her WLF friends right after going AWOL, isn't she supposed to be getting better as a person or whatever? They should've given her non-lethal methods of takedown, like what? Also, why does she help the kids so much in the first place? I get they saved her and all, but Joel had an actual good reason to travel with Ellie? I guess its because she just gets magically attatched to them in a day, even though she's a hardened survivor.

    3. Lev's transness is kind of **** up. Its interesting that they included a trans character, but its literally the source of every single problem of Yara. It takes her arm and eventually kills her. Plus Lev just makes really dumb choices un general. I get that he's a kid but damn, survival of the fittest. The kid is a dumbass. I feel bad for her sister. I wish they didn't have killed her.

    4. The ending. Again, its super unsatisfying, and I hate that Abby and Lev's ending has some hope in it (they can go and find the Fireflies), but why is Ellie's ending so ambiguous? The only clue that she has some hope left is that she's wearing the bracelet Dina gave her. But she can't even look at herself in the mirror anymore. Its a depressing ending. I like to think she went back to Jackson. Also, why does she leave Joels guitar there???? Like I get its a metaphor for leaving his death behind or whatever, but why does she leave it there without a case???? I think its so disrecpectful, like I get you can't get attached to material things in this universe but at least put it in the case. Come on

    So basically, this game is good but you can't play it if you're too attached to Joel. I'm replaying TLOU and trying to forget about this one. And I'll replay part 2 when I forget a little bit about TLOU because there's no way a 60€ is only giving me 25 hours of content. That **** was expensive.    … Expand

    This is a great game! It evokes emotions and gives new sensations. Personally, I cried almost the entire game. Don't listen to anyone until you play the game yourself, you should feel it.

    Game is very cinematic and immersive. A lot of care went into fine details. Unfortunately, the game is too long and the story is too dreary. It’s depressing to play. It’s like they forgot playing games are supposed to be fun. The ending is unsatisfying as the characters’ actions are not believable.

    People saying there are plot holes haven't even identified a plot hole, it confuses me, and I'm really wanting to hear some valid points without being verbally abused for enjoying something. Just because a game doesn't end with sunshine and rainbows, doesn't make it a **** show of a game. Its not dark for the sake of being dark, its a generally realistic story considering the characters and direction the first game took. It doesn't ruin the first game at all, and the characters are actually true to themselves, people thinking they know the characters better than the writers is kind of absurd. Not to mention the death threats being sent to people at Naughty Dog.

    The graphics, animation, sound and music are some of the best I've seen run on a PS4, and you can tell how much effort was into the game.
    The story tells a tale that is brutal, unpredictable and emotional, the only thing i can really say is to definitely play the game before having an opinion.    … Expand

    An excellent follow up to the original (which I happened to play a few months before Part 2 came out). The story is superb, characters well written, excellent gameplay and terrific graphics! Parts of the game were scarier than the first game. Pacing could have been a bit better, but overall enjoyed every moment of it. The ending was perfect (it couldn’t have ended any other way).     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. an absolute pointless revenge plot being a true fan of the first one you will struggle to finish it and on top of that you wont get your revenge at the end for no apparent reasons. also they use some cheap manipulatives methods trying to make us sympathise with abby, make you play the exiting parts of the game (gameplay wise) with her so you enjoy playing her and believe me you won't i personally ruched her 10 hours gameplay into 4 hours or so Also and when you finaly get to play with ellie at the end they make you ruin her life as if spitting on joel corps was not enough losing her family also loosing her fingers ! so she can stop playing guitar and moving on fro joel death or something i think! wasnt even her choice to do so. yeah that's it for me my point is we play video games and the degree we enjoy playing through out the game is the most important thing to rate it so for me suffering to finish it i think i have the right to give a 2 just for the graphics and gameplay that i couldn't enjoy because of the story .… Expand

    I really don't understand people saying this game was awful.

    Every reason people have given for it being bad has just been shockingly stupid. This is by far one of the best games I've ever played and anyone that has actually played it through would agree.

    30% of these negative reviews are clearly from people who have not played this game.

    One of those rare games that leaves you with a real feeling of emotion, whether that be anger or loss or sadness or emptiness. Builds on the original story in a way only Naughty Dog could manage. Masterpiece.

    Absolutely one of the finest gaming experiences of my entire life. One of the worthiest sequels ever made. Gripping from start to finish, with visuals that stun, and a story that leaves you affected days, and perhaps weeks after finishing it. I hate that so many review bombers have dragged the score down, because so many people are missing out on an almost flawless storytelling experience.

    Personally, it is the best game in history. The work that this game created in me had never played any games or movies before. I am very happy to be at this time and I enjoyed this game very much. I have not felt this way for several years and I have never been so affected. I am really grateful.     The Last of Us 2 is a game that was treated very unfairly based on early story leaks which is extremely sad because so many gamers turned up their nose to it based solely on those leaks. I can affirm this game stays extremely true to the original core gameplay mechanics and the story is very enthralling.

    I can't deny that I was moved by this game. It is brilliant in its use of narrative perspective that can only be done in gaming. And I can't deny that ND's got some BALLS in what they did. And the environment is some of the best graphics I've seen in my life so far. The acting is superb. By the end, I was definitely shook.     Some people say the ending wasn’t satisfying but really what did you expect... it’s a game about the end of the world, not everything is going to have a happy ending with people dancing into the suns set. Personally i feel the ending suits this world perfectly....

    Talking about gameplay I mean just WOW, playing any other game now feels bland with the mechanics and attention to detail in the world that I’ve been spoilt with in the last of us 2. The game plays so smoothly and fluently just like the first and honestly it’s so impressive that I couldn’t find a single bug which is impressive alone judging by the amount of bugs you see in new games now.

    This isn’t a fan boy review. As I said I came into this game leaning more towards the idea that I will hate it but really I couldn’t find anything my mind was maybe subconsciously looking for to prove my these thought right. The game is another hit and it’s a real disservice and discouraging to developers who dedicate their life into this sort of amazing work and try hard to give you a “real life” story and just not a perfect happy ending like most games today which cater to the snowflakes.

    Play it! You’re missing out if you believe all the cry babies and pass on it!    … Expand

    A story of revenge that becomes a lesson in obsession and forgiveness. It's a rehashing of violence begetting violence, but also showing that good deeds can be contagious.

    On top of that it improves stealth, AI, and some of the mechanics from the first game. And it looks amazing.

    Ignore the haters (many of which who haven't played this game) and give it a shot.

    Mejor juego de la generación. Historia profunda con mensaje poderoso. A nivel técnico y jugable, perfecto. Se necesita mucha madurez para digerir la historia y aceptar el plot, si bien se pone demasiado anticlimático un par de veces.
