Spitting in the face of fans of the first part. The storyline does not correspond to the logical chain of fanatics of the first part.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is a beautiful, complex experience. Overall, the story is great, but there are some moments where the writing is "convenient" for the story. However, I do not feel that the few lapses in writing take away from the story or user experience. The story itself is a beautiful and terrifying portrayal of PTSD, revenge, and growing up. There are tangible consequences to the characters' actions. It makes you question why you're helping these characters, as their drives for revenge and justice visibly tear apart their relationships. At times, it's almost like watching a family member struggle with their mental health, except you have to act as the person struggling. In terms of gameplay, the game works really well. My only complaint would be that there is a delay between selecting an item or weapon and being able to use it. I can deal with the texture popping, though it can get distracting at times, especially after you scope out of a weapon or come around a corner quickly. Expand

And the lighting can be funny at certain times but overall really beautiful game, thats just being nitpicky. I really loved Ellie’s character development and came to love Abby’s character despite what she did. The story came to a very nice end and I could even see a third game being made with this. Really well done, will play through again many more times just as the first one! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Imo the story wasn't as good as the first one, and I'm confused about the ending like everyone else after my first playthrough. But I'm starting to appreciate it as I started to see it not just as a revenge story. I saw it as Ellie engaged in all those cruelties attempting to forgive Joel for what he did at the firefly hospital. Towards the end of her journey, Ellie realized how similar she had become to the very person she resented (and loved at the same time) and were possibly finally ready to forgive Joel. I'm not saying this justifies Ellie letting Abby live in their final encounter, but it could be one possible explanation. Gameplay-wise, amazing graphics, great atmosphere, absolutely adore the open-world section in Seattle, wish Naughty Dog had added more sections like that. In general, a decent game, I gave it 8/10. If the story beats were less disjointed or cut entirely this would have been a 10/10 game. But the game loses focus, characters act against previously established mindframes and some areas of the game seem to be there just to add additional playtime. Over all 7.5.

Don't buy....Worst game I've ever seen, such a shame as the seven year wait got wasted within the first hour of gameplay and if you decide you want to torture yourself and play the whole game you get made to play as the villain for the majority of it, a game built on revenge but you never get what was promised revenge instead you get a badly written story on why you should feel sorry for the villen and her god awful father who in the first game wanted to kill a sleeping kid for a chance for a cure without her consent or knowledge that she was being sacrificed yet naughty dog wants me to sympathies with this lunatic and his even more messed up daughter, no A is the worst character to ever exist and should of been punished by the player for what she did. I just wanted a game with Joel and Ellie but Instead I got this trainwreck of a game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The original Last of Us marvels in graphical department, and originality of story, not to mention game AI and physic. While the successor, which surely has better graphic, but have many dissapoinment especially in story line. The 2nd one is lack of story originality, and trying to polished it by offering unexpected event. But did it work? Absolutely not, because it has a cliche revenge storyline and also repetitive mission, slash and kill, which one easily get bored during 2/3 of gameplay. Gamers have loss the curiosity when playing the game, the curiosity quessing what comes next in the story.

What gamers really wanted to know is how Joel and Ellie bond grows during all the year, and years to come. Their stories still has alot to explore. And if Joel eventually died, it should not because of his careless, but his willingness to do so, sacrifice for his love one.

There are still many stories involving Last of Us world. Exploring uncharted world of fungus, how other countries deals with it, knowing what started the outbreak, innovating science explanation, how species cross transmission of cordyceps happened in the first place, knowing the patient zero and moral fight decision along the way. There are still many unexplained things in first game that can take to the 2nd one, and will make it the much more bigger game, rather than make twisted game event and the controversial Ellie's love story.
This will surely become a lesson hard learnt for game studio in making successor for success game in the future.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I absolutely loved The Last of Us. I think it's one of my favorite games. The Last of Us Part II however is something different entirely.

At first I thought, "Why are so many people complaining about this game, it's great!", and it was, for the first hours. Then it kept going, and going, almost without purpose. Then when I thought I was going to see a climactic ending where maybe Abby was going to explain the reasons why she did what she did. Maybe, just maybe even do a little gameplay part with Abby. That little gameplay-part with Abby lasted another 12 hours. 12 hours of the game seemingly wanting to do little else than to show that Abby is a person too and that she's not all that bad and that she does have reasons for travelling the entire country to murder Joel.

I mean, in the end, it did kind of work. I liked Abby at the end more than in the beginning, but did it have to last THAT long? The story with Abby is interesting and such but there just seemingly wasn't any goal. The goal was only to get to place A, then get to place B, then to place C and so forth.
I don't get what Abby's drive was, I don't get why Abby suddenly doesn't mind turning against her own people AND not minding to kill anyone that the game so desperately tried to tell you she liked and cared for so much, in the beginning for two people she just met. Suddenly she cares so much for those people even though it puts her and her friends in danger. In the first The Last of Us it was so logical since Joel didn't have anyone else and since Ellie reminded him so much about his daughter but with Abby, why did she care so much about Lev?

To be honest, I wouldn't really mind that much if only it looked like the game was trying to tell something and not just look like it was making up a story on the spot. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that the game just seems way to long for as little as it ends up saying. The first The Last of Us I played through 4 or 5 times, it's also easy to play all over since it isn't that long, about half as long as The Last of Us Part II. And that always seemed worth it, for the experience, for the story, for the characters, kind of like re-watching a movie if you, like me, happen to also like doing. That's just not as inviting as The Last of Us Part II because of the length and the little story it has in those 26 or so hours I first put into it.

Then, obviously there's also a lot good about the game. The gameplay has improved tremendously. I like the weapons in Part II way more than in the first one. I also loved upgrading and that you have to get creative and adapt to what's happening, more so than the first one. Part II has more interesting environments, I think, and also lots more and different kinds of enemies, humans and infected alike. Like the Stalkers, which I'm sure everyone hates, not even necessarily in a bad way. Say what you want but the fact that there are so many different kinds of enemies, each requiring a different approach, makes it interesting. Especially when the game puts different kinds of infected, or even humans and infected, together.

The game looks amazing too! Even better than The Last of Us. Environments are more lush and often times more vast than The Last of Us. Naughty Dog also clearly tried to make The Last of Us Part II's environments at least, much less linear. Part II feels much more real because of the overgrowing plants everywhere and that the path you should take isn't always as obvious as The Last of Us. Further, nothing can compare to the sunny Santa Barbara at the end when you've been playing in dark, grey alleyways for a long time before that. Or The Farm before Santa Barbara, which was also a nice change of scenery, and pace too.

Without judging the ending, which in the end, I did kind of like. I would much rather play The Last of Us Part III with only a single character, Ellie preferably of course. And a The Last of Us III we will get guessing by how indefinite, and somewhat disheartening Ellie's ending was. I might even call it cruel how Naughty Dog left Ellie after getting us to like her so much after two games.

That leaves us with my score, 6/10. Maybe the game deserves even slightly more, so make that a seven if you wish. But it doesn't deserve any less. Even though I don't always agree to how the story was tackled and the messages it's trying to send, the gameplay and aesthetics of The Last of Us Part II make up for much of it. Definitely since I would still recommend everyone to try the game for themselves.

The second part is simply impossible to play. I'm sorry I bought the Collector's Edition. If in the levels for Ellie you get at least some pleasure from the game (due to the storyline with Dina and love for Ellie since Part 1), then the levels with Abby are just torture. I remember that I was just waiting for this horror to end and the game would return me to Ellie. The ending is ... You know, I never cried like that from disappointment. This game is dead for me. Now I can't even play the first part of the game. My opinion is Ellie should stay with Dinah, Abby should be in the grave. The graphics in the game are amazing, so I bet 1 out of 10 I do not recommend buying Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fantastic gameplay. The new standard for both accessibility options and visual detail. The animations and sound design are the best I've ever seen in the game, upgrading guns is exciting just to see all the clicking and clacking of the weapons in detail under the harsh workshop lamp. Some brilliant story moments and character-building near the start of the game. Then the narrative and gameplay pacing begins to fall apart as you get past Ellie's Day 1.

Her flashbacks with Joel are lovely and give the game a *very* needed sense of levity. Even though dramatic moments still come up within them, they don't feel as soul-crushingly as hopeless as the time spent in Seattle. Up until the end of Ellie's Day 3, I felt the game had its problems but I was enjoying it. Then you start as Abby and it's just not executed well.

I don't mind the idea of playing as Abby but forcing you to play through the previous 15 hours from Abby's perspective *without warning* with characters you either hate or don't care about did not keep me engaged at all. The important part to take note is that it really is a surprise, I would've been more likely to enjoy and be open to Abby's sections of the game if you swapped off between characters at the end of each day. But forcing you to play as Abby at the emotional climax of Ellie's journey feels unnecessarily antagonistic, like the switch is there to spite the player when they're finally ready for a conclusion. There's a lot of hypothetical changes you can throw out there but there's a lot of issues I have with Abby's days would require more than just reorganising how you play them. Long story short I did grow to sympathise with Abby but I never liked her, or her friends for that matter.

I don't think the story is bad but I'd argue the way it's told certainly is. Abby definitely has the most varied level-design: the spooky forest clearing where you meet Yara and Lev, and the Island sequence stand out. And I really enjoyed Ellie's final level through Santa Barbara; it provides a really nice change of aesthetic to the grey wind and rain of Seattle, contains interesting encounters and *most importantly* is the most well-paced level in my opinion.

I ended up finding the ending quite provocative but did find it to be *too* hopeless. The final flashbacks to Joel had me weeping like a little baby, 10 out of 10 moments for me. But the 23 hours previous have a bigger impact on my enjoyment of the game than the sparse moments of great story-telling between characters I *do* care about.

It's a tricky one to discuss and video-essayists have made much more in-depth videos than anything you'll see in a Metacritic user review. It's a game I'm glad I played and would like to play again because I do love the gameplay so much (replaying encounters is a god-send for me), but after getting to the start of Ellie's Day 2 on a second playthrough I don't think I can bring myself to be engaged with the story now that I know what comes afterwards.

With the game's erratic quality I can see people giving this game anywhere from a 4 to an 8, but I can not understand how someone could give this game a 10 or a 0, because even if you hate it there are moments likely to hit you in a way no game ever has. Critics seem to think it is perfect. I think professionals in the industry like to think that games have as much artistic credence as books and movies and so if a game tries something different or controversial then it must be a well-executed subversion of story-telling and a "new paragon of narrative design". When, in fact, maybe it was just something that *did* try hard but didn't quite hit the mark. Although I very strongly suspect if this game came from any other studio than Naughty Dog those review scores wouldn't be quite as high.

My biggest issue with the story is that the characters get thrown around and are inconsistent. At one point a character would be a significant part of the story, but then be completely forgotten about for pretty much the rest of the game. Character relationships feel unrealistic considering we would just meet certain characters and immediately the characters of the story would care or simply trust each other all of the sudden. This is a consistent problem throughout the entire game. The romantic relationships in the game feel unrealistic. An example of this is during the beginning of the game where the player meets Dina for the first time. We literally go from having a snowball fight, to killing zombies, to smoking weed and having sex. Ellie and Dina literally hooked up the night before, and now all the sudden they have this complexed romantic relationship? Not even the notes in Ellie’s journal reveals any chemistry between the two. They were simply friends, but I digress. Honestly though if your gonna have complexed character relationships show it in gameplay or cutscenes including flashbacks. Don’t just write some lazy expedition in notes and don’t assume that the player assumes the characters have had previous chemistry. The game also has way to much plot armor. Basically this story’s events and why certain characters live or die can be summed up as a giant coincidence. The biggest example of this in my opinion is when Ellie is captured by the WLF for the first time during her revenge quest. She’s tied up by a WLF member who then holds knife to her neck. Another WLF member intervenes, that person then try’s to kill Ellie, the previous WLF member intervenes Saying they should interrogate Her instead, the other character insists that they kill Ellie, they then put a gun to her head to kill her, Dina shows up killing one of the enemy’s through the skylight, she gets shot down by the still living WLF member hitting the ground hard and temporary disabling her, instead of shooting Dina the WLF member decides to strangle her, Ellie then picks up a piece of glass from the broken skylight to cut her restraints, She then stabs and kills the WLF member Saving herself and Dina. I don’t mind a little plot armor, but there’s so much of it in this game that it breaks the immersion. The set pieces are cool at least. The last level of the game (all though fun to play) felt extremely rushed story wise. We are literally introduced to a new faction called the “Ratlers” and given no time to develop them. It honestly feels like the last part was just padding. The game is very long in general literally jumping back in time when the story is about to reach its peak and seemingly concluded to tell what I feel is a completely unrelated story from the previous. I’m referring to Abbys story. We go from a revenge quest to avenge Joel as Ellie, to saving the people from the enemy faction “Seraphites” Because they had resented the faction, to building a relationship with said people (Mainly Lev) causing a faction war between The WLF and the Seraphites as Abby. Both of which are 10 hours long. You can literally make two games out of this, but I digress. Finally we have reached the end and to be honest it sucked. Not only because Abby lived, but because Ellie never found out why Abby kille Joel. We the player know, but Ellie doesn’t. So I’m sitting there thinking why on earth did Ellie not kill Abby. It felt like the developers forgot or overlooked that Ellie doesn’t know What Abbys intentions were and that all she knows is that Abby killed Joel and that she was going to kill her. So basically Ellie traveled for months, wiped out nearly two factions worth of people single handily, only to let the Person who killed Joel (who was basically a dad to Ellie) live? I don’t buy it. Overall the gameplay was really fun, but I just could get into the story. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm about 15 hours into the game, so far despite all the negative reviews and comments I read before, i have been enjoying the game so much and I find myself wanting to play more whenever possible. People are saying they hate the story and the image of the new character Abby, I find nothing controversial at all. Don't like the physique of Abby? Go to a gym! Don't like Ellie's sex preference? Well have you been living in a cave? Don't like Joel getting killed? If you played TLOU 1, he did make the tough choice to sacrifice everyone to save his new "baby girl", and he was simply paying for what he did. Don't get me wrong. I love the character of Joel, but it's the story told by Naughty Dog, and I find this nothing wrong at all.

Of course one can hate this story, but so far I do not find many things that cannot be explained and justified. There were some areas where one may find the story a bit weird, like Yara is okay to have all her Scar friends slaughtered by Abby when they are together, and Abby killing her WLF friends without a wink, but other than these, so far I have been loving the story telling of Naughty Dog. The story is heavy and sad, but not all stories are meant to be happy and bright.

If you simply expect the very standard story controlling the old characters and kill everyone, this is not for you. But if you have an open mind, this game is a classic and cannot be missed. I can only say Naughty Dog's story telling is superb, even better than the previous generation.

TLOU2 is a sick game in a good way. At the end It left me whit only one emotion: disappointment. So why I fell that it’s a good game? Because that’s the objective of TLOU2. The characters aren’t flawless. Every single one of them has a lot of bad experiences and trauma that lead to a f*cked up ending leaving you, the player, empty.

In this case, there is an alternative, where Tess tortures the main character in the game The last of us and then kills. Now remember the first full trailer for The last of Us part two. Ellie plays the guitar and is immediately shown how Joel Miller enters and it immediately became clear that Ellie would be avenged for his death.. Expand

First of all, just to address the constant "review bombing"... Most of those who have rated it between 0-4 have most likely not even played a minute of the game, they're just going by the spoilers before release because they're mad about it. Well guess what?.. some of them were actually incorrect anyway! I won't do a long drawn out review type rating, but what I will say is that Part II isFirst of all, just to address the constant "review bombing"... Well guess what?.. some of them were actually incorrect anyway! I won't do a long drawn out review type rating, but what I will say is that Part II is incredible from start to finish, I actually enjoyed the 2nd half more than the first which I didn't think I would, especially due to how different it is (spoiler free). The graphics are one of the best I've seen on ps4, the facial expressions especially are excellent and really show the emotions of each character. The gameplay itself is incredible, it's just an extension of the original, but made better. The story itself has jaw dropping moments, and then the quieter and more peaceful ones. All in all I would recommend this game to all of the returning fans of the original, as it will not disappoint. What I liked about it most was that at several moments throughout I felt like it was nearing the games end, but then more kept coming, absolutely amazing. My one gripe is actually collecting parts/materials/ammo, this seems to be a bit less responsive than the first game, but we can't have it all! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Beautiful visuals, solid gameplay and a story that switched between being extremely irritating and unforgivably boring. Loved the first game. One of my favorites of all time. I really tried to give a damn about Abby (whom you spend a good third or fourth of the game controlling). I tried to feel SOMETHING and I just didn’t. And if I didn’t have a prior connection to Ellie from the first game I wouldn’t have cared about her at all in this one either. So many of the characters are just...nothing. Generically sad characters. The longer this game has sat with more it disappoints and annoys me. I am very much judging this by comparing it to the feelings the first game put me through. Longing, sadness, relief, love and hope. I’m kinda a sucker for that stuff when it’s done right. I really just didn’t care about anything in this sequel. It’s way too long and constantly interrupting itself. If beautiful visuals and some solid zombie horror sections are enough for you to forgive a oppressingly uninteresting cast of characters and a story that comes full circle and becomes completely pointless, I recommend this game. (Spoilers: it’s not worth it). Really a shame. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Exquisite gameplay, ALL its technical points, level design, scenarios, battles, diversity of situations (stealth, melee, shooter, sniper, survival) and artistic aspects, EVERYTHING borders on perfection.

At the historical level, where there is controversy, PART II fixes part I. Last of Us closed with a message that must have tormented Neil Druckman: cold-blooded killing of unarmed doctors and nurses.

This is not Abby's or Ellie's game, it is the PLAYER's game, which leads to a greater understanding of the human race, the concept of the enemy, of the conflicts between communities to establish their myths and rules. The pity that if they have not achieved it with the majority of the players, there is little hope for this humanity, that only greed moves us, the thirst for revenge, and that there is only one me or them. With me or against me.

    (SPOILERS)
Part II is a player's journey to a broader understanding for the player that in real life there are no extreme villains or heroes, everything is degrees (linked to the superheroes cards collection in the journey) therefore Abby is not a classic villain role, Abby has suffered that someone KILLED HER FATHER in cold blood. She must fulfilled this evil growing inside her with revenge. Although she completed her revenge, this one later torments her guiding her to the redemption of Lev and her sister's rescue - a great character Lev -, and she ends up hanging in penance. Ellie achieves her revenge too when she is drowning Abby, Joel appears in her mind and looks at her as if saying "stop" (a traffic sign that is constantly repeated throughout the streets of Seattle). Stop this violence.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So as someone who found the first part about a year late. Then proceeded to love both story mode and multiplayer for years. Obviously I was longing to visit some of my favorite characters ever. I patiently waited, even when some sad soul decided to leak cutscenes and some parts of the story. I stayed away knowing that making up my mind on any aspects of the game would only lead to dissatisfaction. So I put my trust in naughty dog and with a clean slate played on. This game was tough to love at times. Several times I had to take a minute and put controller down to process what was happening. I felt anger over Joel's death. Sadness over Ellie's loss.then I was forced to play as Joel's killer and I couldn't find it in myself to root for her. The more I played though the more I realized what the creators were trying to do to me. So I played on. I obviously love Ellie. I felt a great sadness when I had to play through her hot headed revenge run. I knew that this wouldn't bring her closure, yet the way the game is made it is so easy to get hooked on becoming this deranged killer plowing through a city. This in a way mirrors how Joel would've reacted before Jackson. All I wanted was to find Abby and make her pay. All the way until the theater scene where Jesse gets killed in such a jarring fashion. I was slightly impressed at the stubbornness of the villain of this game.

Then the coin gets flipped and I have to play as the killer of my father. At first I hoped it was just a flashback. So much so that I didn't even look or scavenge for anything because I was sure my stint in her shoes would be short. Then she grew on me just a bit. After hours playing as Abby I felt morally challenged when it came down to playing against Ellie in the theater. I didn't want to hurt her, but I also didn't want Abby to lose either
The addition of Lev and Yara made me see Abby as a sort of Joel replacement. The reluctant experienced adult who begrudgingly takes a minor under their wing, that would eventually bring them inner peace.
The last fight was the hardest. Now fully immersed into the lives of both of these women, I didn't want to go there. I could easily step into either of their shoes and justify their actions. I love this game. It's a step up from the first part. The first one is a beautiful cliche. This second part is hard, and gritty and real. Especially in the way it shows us how heroes and villains is a matter of perspective.

10/10 Can't wait to play it again and take my time and look in every corner of this fantastic game I hope they make a part 3 and I would wait ten years if I have to.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For most of the game I was loving it, up until the first fight between Ellie and Abby. They game made me continue to love Ellie, and while playing through her three Seattle days I didn't feel remorse for any of the human's that I was killing. Switching to Abby's story, I personally started to realize that all the wolfs I killed they had someone who cared for them. Now the fights between Abby and Ellie. When the first one begun I was like "oh s**t this is not happening!" Then when Abby begun to start stangling Ellie at first I was pushing the button like normal and then I slowly had to stop, because I didn't want Abby to kill Ellie. The same for when Ellie started to drown Abby. I just really wished that Dina and Ellie lived happily ever after on the farm, and the same for Abby and Lev by finding the fireflies.

It was a beautiful game overall, I especially love the greenery of the forest for Ellie's first Seattle day.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics, audio design, music, voice acting, character design, set design, and atmosphere were all absolutely superb. Which is one reason I find anyone giving the game a 0/10 rating to be absolutely asinine. Even if the story WAS complete garbage as they claim, everything mentioned above warrants at LEAST a 5 or 6 out of 10. But people angry that the story didn't go the way they wanted conveniently ignore all that went right with this game to spew their vitriol. Naughty Dog took mighty risks telling this story and while I don't believe it is quite as good as its predecessor, those were some awfully large shoes to fill. I think the emotional impact alone is enough to compel me to give this game an excellent score, but the story itself is also executed amazingly well, especially on a second go round of the game when you can take in more of the environment instead of rushing through to find out what happens. And therein lies the one real issue I have with the game, which is the pacing. It was going to be tricky no matter what to get the pacing just right with the story they wanted to tell but a few tweaks here and there would have greatly benefited the game's flow, I believe. Still, I know it must have been difficult to decide on the order of events and I'm sure they took a painstaking amount of time trying to decide so I do give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure they tried other ways and orders of events but it maybe didn't have the same emotional impact. Overall, it's a great game that really challenges preconceived notions of what a video game should be and tells a story worth telling. I love Ellie dearly and being placed in her shoes was a harrowing, emotionally devastating journey. And although I don't believe what Abby did was right, I come to understand that a person should not be known only by their worst mistake but also by their ability to grow from there and change for the better. This isn't simply a game about revenge but also about forgiveness (no, not Ellie forgiving Abby, but Ellie forgiving JOEL) and redemption. I hope that we get another game despite the backlash - one where we can see the conclusion of Ellie's story and her finding meaning and purpose in her life once more. She deserves the chance to become better, just as Abby was able to. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Normally, I do not write reviews but this game was a huge disappointment and is probably one of the most overrate games of all time. The Last of Us 1 was not great because of its gameplay. No, it was all about its great story. And I also expected a great story from part 2. But the story in part 2 is pretty bad. Almost no character development, many plot holes and the timeline of the story is inaccurate. In fact, the game is almost too long. You have too many characters and the game is split into two parts whereas you play another character in the second part. And the final chapter of the game seems to be incomplete which makes it basically needless. In the first game, the story was only focused on the relationship between Joel and Ellie and its development. And as already mentioned, in this game are too many characters involved which makes the story overloaded. There aren't even any improvements of the gameplay. And for a game that takes place after a zombie apocalypse, there are not so many encounters with zombies except for the first few hours. Mostly, you have encounters against hordes of humans which can be annoying. The graphics are nice, but not the best on the PS4. God of War has better graphics. The most controversial about this game are the SJW elements. Nobody had any problems with Ellie but if the old, white man Joel has to be killed to get more diversity is a disgrace for every fan of the first title. ND denied to follow a political agenda, but the developers clearly made some statements before the release and keep doing it on Twitter. Most people have no problems with a female or a whatever character. No, most people gave a negative rating because of Joel's death and this awful story. It is unbelievable that Metacritic deleted some negative reviews. Most negative reviews are pretty detailed compared to the positive ones which are superficial. And if you are interest in a game that should be frightening and also be about zombies: better buy Resident Evil 7 or Resident Evil 2. Expand

Furthermore, instead of serving up to the taste of the traditional gamers, the team tried several groundbreaking attempts, such as to force the player to perceive conditions from an enemy’s angle and try to forgive the characters we hated so much hours earlier. I understand it was a shocking experience cause lots of people cannot simply accept this setting, let along with the fact that people who are indulgent in the gaming world have more or less some mental issues so they tend to seek fun by massive killing in the virtual world. Mostly importantly, TLOU2 is the first game ever in history which has genuinely placed female protagonists at the center stage. You have no idea how much we love Ellie, Dina, and even Abby! Of course, we also love Joel, Jesse, and Owen, the male characters in the game have been portrayed in a gentle and mild way, much approachable than those sexist we are facing in the real world. Thank you, Neil, Haylley and the beloved Naughty Dog Team! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I did not read any of the spoilers but I did read all the hate online. I decided to play the game and make up my own mind. I enjoyed the game, I thought the story was solid, and I think it was a worthy successor to TLOU. I think everyone wanted a game where you keep playing as Joel and Ellie and continue on their story. They decided to throw things on their head by making you play half the game as the person you are trying to get revenge on for killing Joel. I wound up liking Abby and I thought her crew was ok. I do think there were too many characters overall in the game. The gameplay was fun, though having one open world section like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and then the rest be linear was an odd choice.

I also found this game to not be as creepy or as scary as the first game, the enemies felt less threatening, maybe because as Ellie you had a knife the whole.

Motion capture, graphics, and voice acting were absolutely amazing.

Overall I think people were mad the game wasn't made how they wanted it. Its not amazing like the first game but it's a solid sequel. Then again I kind of liked Uncharted 3 more than 2 so maybe I'm the problem.

    What a pity.
The graphics is perfect, gameplay is good in general. The storytelling, however, is very confusing. The plotline gives you a very bad first impression on one of the protagonists and assumes you will understand her feelings later. It is a very bold and arrogant approach that can easily piss off the players. No rational writer should do something like this because human is more

It is a very bold and arrogant approach that can easily piss off the players. No rational writer should do something like this because human is more emotional than logical in most scenarios, especially when playing game as entertainment.
In addition to the ill-organized plotline, the game makes very blatant depiction of excessive violence that I do not believe is necessary. Some of the scenes could be very disturbing, to the extent of "grotesque". Though it is justified by the restricted rating, I would not recommend something as violent as this to anyone I care about.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It just suck so much. It’s a spit in the face of the fans of the last game and of Joel. The Ellie and Joel act uncharacteristically from the first game to seemingly just fit the story line and get them to where they are supposed to be. After killing Joel you play as Abby and I couldn’t care less about her background or that her dad saved some zebra. I just wanted her dead and we don’t even get that that at the end. The graphics are pretty good though. Expand

From a graphics/technical perspective this game is a masterpiece. You will never play a game that looks/feels so good to play for years, much less on current gen technology. The most detailed and intricate game I've ever played on the PS4. The character movement, faces and costume detail changes are superb. The story is agonizing and hard to swallow at times, but I'd choose this over a boring plot any day. It's rare my real feelings come out playing a video game.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
