    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I began the game angry with Joel's death, but I feel like I followed Ellie's journey to avenge him, and finally mourn him in the end. It was bittersweet ending for me, but the game kept me hooked with its exciting action scenes, and compelling story. And even though I spent the entire game looking forward to killing Abby, I ended up at the same mindset as Ellie: it wouldn't bring him back. An amazing series that deserves more praise than it has gotten from the fans.… Expand

    Keine Ahnung woher die vielen negativen Bewertungen kommen. Ich würde so gut wie lange nicht mehr unterhalten. Das Spiel läuft auf meiner Ps4 slim hervorragend, sieht unglaublich gut aus. Bereue den kauf nicht eine Sekunde.

    It's engaging in all of the wrong ways, I feel I'm being manipulated into liking a certain group of character, atleast make it not too obvious.
    Besides the plot(hole) driven stories and probably a fungus infection making everybody in this game not think properly, mediocre/10. the graphics lives up to naughty dog standard,

I found it hard to continue some parts due to that challenge, but toward the end, I began to sorta understand the story and characters, especially after a 2nd playthrough. If you connected well with tlou1, you will most likely find a connection to this sequel.… Expand

    The Last Of Us Part 2 is the equivalents of a flaming bag of dog s#@t outside on your neighbors front porch. The characters are awful, the story is awful, everything about the game is awful and an unorganized mess. 75% of the game you are looting a building, riding a horse, and following someone. The other 25% of the game are the actual fun bits where you are fighting people or infected,The Last Of Us Part 2 is the equivalents of a flaming bag of dog s#@t outside on your neighbors front porch. The characters are awful, the story is awful, everything about the game is awful and an unorganized mess. 75% of the game you are looting a building, riding a horse, and following someone. The other 25% of the game are the actual fun bits where you are fighting people or infected, but you are constantly skipping through those parts by stealthing your way through the areas to get to the exit. Plus on top of all that, the ending extremely bad. The only good part about the game are the graphics. In conclusion, the game is extremely bad and you should not waste your money on it, and it is definitely not a "metacritic must play".… Expand

    Just as many have ooint out already, the director's agenda is all over the place. Counter culture and SWJ ruined this game.
    The gameplay is phenomenal, and graphics like no other game of this generation. But the characters are totally different from the first game, and the story on this sequel has many plot-holes.

After 1.5 hours I was crying like a baby. Whyyy? 'cause my favorite character was joel and he died. At the end of the game we were killing the murderer of Joel (Abby) and we just leave her. and we lost 2 fingers!!!… Expand

    This game is really good. Lots of hate due to a lack of Joel game play and a misunderstanding of the game. If you want a happy ever after don't play it but if you're prepared to enjoy a good game but feel anger and sadness then definitely play it.

    Everything in this game is just beautiful and memorable, the level, game and character design, the expressions, the music and the scenes are beautifully written. It's clear that Naughty Dog put all the love for this project and it's a perfect sequel, probably one of the best so far. I want to give 9/10 only because the final part of the game is a little bit longer than necessary.

    I couldn't help but make an account purely to counter the absurd negativity that surrounds this masterful game.

    For me the first game was great because of the simplicity of its story. Ellie and Joel had a sole aim, to get to the Fireflies across the USA. They were our good guys and our protagonists. Until the final act there was no moral complexity or subversion of our expectations. The    I couldn't help but make an account purely to counter the absurd negativity that surrounds this masterful game.

    For me the first game was great because of the simplicity of its story. Ellie and Joel had a sole aim, to get to the Fireflies across the USA. They were our good guys and our protagonists. Until the final act there was no moral complexity or subversion of our expectations. The linchpin of the game was the relationship between the two, which was beautifully portrayed and developed.

    The second game throws this out of the window and plunges us into a world of blurred morality, of vengeance, of love, of despair... and is all the better for it. This complexity was not found in the first game and is handled so well in this story. What I don't think people understand is that this game is supposed to rip your heart out and make you mad. That's not a flaw of the game, its a testament to its writing and acting. Art is supposed to move you and make you feel, which this game does in bucket loads. The game is set in a post apocalyptic nightmare, so of course things aren't going to be all sunshine and rainbows.

    What this game does so fantastically is massively subvert our expectations and beliefs at the midway mark. Without trying to spoil anything, I will simply say that a change in perspective brings another layer to this game which is truly inspired. Everything we have been led to believe, everyone we have come to root for and those we have come to hate... all is questioned and it makes for a fantastically complex and ambiguous story. Its hard to argue that anybody in this game is a true hero or villain (aside from some notable exceptions in the final act) which is a level of ambiguity rarely seen in the video game world. To paraphrase a well known saying, the greatest trick Neil Druckmann ever pulled was convincing us that Joel was a hero. I loved what TLOU2 did with its story, and anybody who enters this game with an open mind, unswayed by moronic 1 star reviews will surely appreciate this on some level.

    I'm also seeing a lot of reviews calling this game 'propaganda' and 'pandering' which is just so vile and obtuse. Yes there are lesbians, yes there is a trans character. Guess what, if you switch off your console and go outside such people are in the real world too!! If you are playing this game and these things bother you then quite frankly you just don't deserve nice things so maybe just throw out your Playstation.

    In terms of the gameplay The Last of Us Part II is one of the smoothest gaming experiences I've ever had. Similar to the first game one has the choice of a number of weapons, which are collected throughout the game and are able to be upgraded. Also carried forward is the option to upgrade skills, enhanced for this instalment with additional options. Everything you love from the first game is here, never made worse, only ever enhanced.

    The greatest change I found was the ways you can choose to play. Whether you prefer to opt for aggressive or stealth gameplay there so many options for you to execute both with such fluidity and ingenuity, making the replayability high (which I don't quite think the first game has). There's a good mix of environments and enemies, although my only criticism would be a slight pacing issue. There were some latter sections which could have been streamlined, but that's a small criticism all things considered.

    TLOU2 has received so much unwarranted and ridiculous hate. Any true fans of the first game and fans of story telling will surely love this follow up. Just as beautiful, just as harrowing, just as epic, it has everything the first game does and more. Do not listen to the morons out there who have slated this game because it dares to shock and dares to upset them. It is a masterpiece, plain and simple.    … Expand

O principal problema está no enredo, pois muitas vezes as motivações e decisões dos personagens não soam críveis, há muitas conveniências de roteiro, toda uma construção de narrativa que visa fazer o jogador "comprar os dois lados da história". Pode funcionar para muitos, mas não me convenceu. Fico felizTecnicamente, o jogo demonstra todo o potencial do PS4, um jogo de encher os olhos. It's a shame that such a great series was leaked, and why? In my opinion, one should be very careful when implementing such experiments. And the right thing in this case would be to release a separate story, and not continue the magnificently completed story of Joel and Ellie, at the end of which I let out a tight tear, and which I have enjoyed many times! Then the internet shows you the game is no good. Lets go over the game first. Gameplay: The game is challenging if you play the ground mode. But the same time, the graphic is pretty nice and beautiful. The A.I in Last Of Us 2 is hella smart and overhaul communication for A.I. Dogs is really stunning animated :). This game is brutal this is what the game does. The combat is really good. I'm geld the developer balanced the game every well. This game also attention the details. Story: The story is garbage. I'm sorry to say this, yes we know the story is going to be trash and awful weak character.
    You play as Ellie AND ABBY. Holy mother of god you really gonna say: "Abby is a good character in my opinion." No. Abby kills Joel with a GOLD CLUB. I don't know what to say anymore. The writing is awful. Also the pacing is going to hell.

    Overall, this game have some problem...for example: story, pacing and character. This example have big problem. But i do like the stunning animation, combat, smart A.I, graphic.

    I play Last Of Us 2 start to finished but...this is the game I don't really like. We gonna see Part 3 for this. I'm just not looking forward too.....    … Expand

    This game is quite a remarkable pile of trash. It manages to encapsulate everything wrong with modern video games as well as western society as a whole. It's a boring, miserable, and utterly disappointing release that only goes to show how TLOU part 1 was a complete fluke.

    Anyone who loved the first game and isnt an insecure d**k will love this too. Those giving under 5 should be ashamed of themselves and take time to sit down and think about what kind of person they are. If you dont agree with the politics, the size of Abby's arms (jesus christ) etc you have to give it at least 5 for the game play itself.

    The gameplay was kinda fun yet it also feels sluggish at times and I had a glitch that almost got me stuck but apart from that the gameplay was fine. Story was kinda deep yet I dislike games with a political agenda that's forced down your throat. In the beginning you don't notice it much and it sucks u in. Este primer sentido de vida fue arrebatado por el propio Joel, "su padre", al salvarla en el primer The Last of Us y para intentarEsta obra maestra es una perfecta representación del desprendimiento de la persona humana, en el cual se muestra a una Ellie obsesionada en buscar un nuevo sentido de vida sin importarle dejar atrás todo lo que ama ya sea su novia, el bebé, su vida en Jackson. Este primer sentido de vida fue arrebatado por el propio Joel, "su padre", al salvarla en el primer The Last of Us y para intentar compensar esa frustración Ellie hace todo lo posible por acabar con Abby.
    Este nuevo juego es muy crudo, salvaje y sin ganas de esconder su verdadera naturaleza, la cual es que la personas realmente no tienen importancia o que su significado es casi nulo, solo son humanos frágiles que intentan sobrevivir un día más, dejando en claro que te puedes ir de este mundo en cualquier momento, sin ceremonias, sin las palabras de despedida un amigo, nada... Te pone en pantalla un contraste super fuerte entre las dos protagonistas, por un lado de manera secuencial se ve como Ellie va cayendo en un abismo sin salida cegada por el odio, llegando a un punto de no retorno el cual es fulminante para su vida, y en la otra parte muestra a Abby que no tenía a nada ni a nadie, encontrando un rayo de luz por el cual seguir luchando, siendo una clara referencia del arco argumental de Joel en el primer juego. Su frialdad te invade gracias a su historia penetrante, a las interpretaciones de los personajes y al mundo que es excesivamente realista.     Le da muy buen seguimiento a el primer juego, no es mejor que el primero sin duda pero si la historia termina aquí en mi opinión fue un buen cierre para esta increíble historia, y en el apartado gráfico y el apartado de la jugabilidad y mecánicas es de lo mejor que he jugado, la historia es más para gustos en mi opinión porque si estas dispuesto a seguir la historia sin importar que pasenLe da muy buen seguimiento a el primer juego, no es mejor que el primero sin duda pero si la historia termina aquí en mi opinión fue un buen cierre para esta increíble historia, y en el apartado gráfico y el apartado de la jugabilidad y mecánicas es de lo mejor que he jugado, la historia es más para gustos en mi opinión porque si estas dispuesto a seguir la historia sin importar que pasen cosas que no quieres que pasen es un muy buen juego con una historia cruda y que te deja pensando sobre muchas cosas.… Expand

    Una perfecta representación del desprendimiento de la persona humana, muy cruda, salvaje y sin ganas de esconder su verdadera naturaleza, realmente te invade su frialdad gracias a su historia y a las interpretaciones de los personajes. Sencillamente lo mejor en mucho tiempo.

    I didn't understand the critics over this game, and now that I finished I'm more confuse lol
    The game is amazing. Mechanics, graphics, plot. Everything is good. I understand the shock but you need to understand the reasons.
    There are logic, please play the full game before put zeros randomly because you cry over injustice and stuff. We all cry over that.
    The feelings are the best part.

    The best game I have ever played so far in my life. Especially love the fact that Naughty Dog has made much longer CG movies than part 1. Although Joel's death made me sad, but it is time for Ellie to take the role of savior for the world. There is no reason for us to not like her. Great game! Thank you all, the talented minds behind TLOU2!

The new characters are mostly generic and forgettable, and even the updated personalities of the existing characters genericizes them.

    Graphics are really good. the gameplay is just average. But the story is garbage. I have had dreams that had more coherent stories than this. What a shame. Niel Druckman should be fired.

I haven't reached any such controversial part of the story yet, and while I don't want spoilers, I don't plan on finishing this game soon because I am at a *really* slow part of the game right now, and I don't know why, but playing this game makes me feel a bit groggy. It's not that there isn't enough action or drama in the game; I think the problem lies in its realism-aspect spacing out the action and drawing-out the world-building/atmosphere too much.

    I admit I *used* to hold misogynistic views, but I don't hold them anymore; it no longer bothers me to see strong female protagonists fighting societal norms, though, I think a part of me is still depressed and has not yet completely accepted that these things are OK. If you're thinking about playing this game, it's best to be completely over these kinds of things, because it feels like this game rubs it in your face at times. This game went from playing as an ex-marine badass father to a strong, fiercely-independent lesbian woman in her 20-somethings. These characters have *completely* different socio-political demographic overlaps (outside of the group of people who are fine-with and can enjoy both.) I feel like the misogynistic/incel fans who liked the first game for the wrong reasons (perceived themes of male dominance, white supremacy, among other unscrupulous ideas) came to the sequel carrying their same socio-political expectations, and that must be one of the reasons why the user-reviews on this game are so polarized.

    One thing I don't understand at all is the fact that the professional critics are giving this game an aggregate score of 96/100. That score is the territory of some of the best video games ever made, and while The Last Of Us 2 isn't terrible, I think it's definitely not one of the best games ever made. Let's be honest here: TLOU2 is a solid 85/100. Not terrible; in fact pretty good but not one of the all-time bests either.    … Expand

To this add that you'll fight the same enemies over and over again in setpieces that you've already seen in better games.

    On the graphic side the game looks really good but doesn't run smoothly and often suffers from framerate drop (even though the game only runs at 20-30 fps and even though i played it on a ps4 pro ).

    Oh i forgot, almost all the environnments are grey and green and look copy/pasted except for the last part of the game (which was actually enjoyable, too bad it took 25 hours of watching paint dry to get there).

    Overall there could be a decent game in all this mess but it's destroyed by the pacing and bad writing, for every good idea there are 10 bad ones. Really to think that this took 5 years to make and had close to unlimited budget is embarassing, kinda reminds me of the rise of skywalker :D    … Expand

    Quite a good game. Yes, there is LGBTQ+ theme, but that doesn't bore as much as people say. Pretty boring in the second part, but still counts - couple of epic moments. Must play, but game not only contains of pros, it also got cons.

    Make you play as the hated antagonist, then don't even give you a choice... Slap in the face. Attrocious followup to one of the best games on PS3. Develeopers deserve all the criticism they get for this garbage. Can't believe the critical ratings are as high as this.

    This game was mind blowing! The attention to detail contributes to the game and story telling. Everything in TLAO ii is well done. The story takes many unsuspected turns. It’s not what you want but it’s what you need if you are looking for a story that steps outside traditional lines.

La falsa publicidad en los trailers haciéndonos creer que Joel nos ayudaría en el viaje, funciono bien, todos estábamos hypeados, y con razón. El juego es un 10 de 10 en gráficos, sonidos, paisajes y todo lo estético, pero en la historia es literalmente un 5 por debajo casi llegando al 0, los personajes son buenos pero se sienten vacíos y que duran tan poco en la historia que solo tienen 15 minutos de gloria antes de que los maten de un tiro en la cabeza o lo muerda un chasqueador. En mi opinión el juego termina cuando dejamos de usar a Ellie y empezamos con el trasfondo de Abby, y ni hablar de cuando tuvimos que usarla para pelear contra ELLIE, casi matandola y con la triste e inesperada muerte de Jesse, el cual le agarre mucho cariño, en ese momento solté el mando y me negué a seguir jugando.

We follow one character that we already know, because she's the girl on the front cover of the game. We reach climax of her story, a dramatic stand-off between the hero and the villain, and we cut to black for a flashback, involving the villain. You learn why the villain is after the hero. Then you play as the villain. We play half-way through, when we cut out of the first story, and we're now replaying the same days as the villain. You're thinking that the stories are going to intertwine in ways that will let you know more about past events. But they never do. The story literally begins again, only now telling a completely separate story. It takes 10 hours to get back to the climax. The only thing we see now is the villain doing things that are so nonsensically stupid, I couldn't believe a grown adult wrote this story. We see characters taking drastic actions with such little thought or explanation, and they are consistently the worst possible thing to do in that situation. We see now that the villains were nice people all along, they play with cute dogs and rescue zebras from traps. There's a heavily pregnant woman that fights the infected and does Nathan Drake-style jumping and climbing. A teenage girl has an amputation, yet is running and fighting the next day, with little to no medication for the pain. It's so ridiculous that it genuinely detracts from the story, which is grim and violent with no moments of levity. What you learn in the second half is that EVERY single event in the story is happening either to a ridiculously stupid decision or complete dumb luck. It's just... objectively bad. It's complete insanity that this game is getting perfect scores. There is no possible way that the perfect 10 scores were by unbiased reporters. And just look at the PR campaign for this game, which is just character assassination. An actor from the game explains why he thought the father figure of the first story is just like one of the villains of the first story, who was a cannibal and a pedophile. There's even news articles about the game developers working such ludicrous hours that at least one was hospitalized. It's the kind of workers rights violations that should not be supported. This game is terrible and everyone involved should be disgusted at how horribly they've mangled a story that didn't need to be continued. That's difficult for me to even think about, because I've been playing every single one of Naughty Dog's games since I was a kid. The more I learn about the director's behavior when making this game, the more I dislike it. Please do not buy this game. Please don't support these people. Don't exchange good money for a bad story that is poorly told.… Expand

    The story is uninspired. The characters are uninteresting, one-dimensional and forgettable. Several are introduced as deus-ex machina devices to save the day out of nowhere. The Story feels fragmented and scattered.

    For a story driven game, this is unacceptable. It would be ok for a game based on gameplay above story, but ironically the gameplay was portion of the first game that was barely touched on the second one. There are minor improvements: you can jump (but the jump button is pointless). Enemies have dogs!
    But excluding minor QoL changes, combat, stealth and crafting system are the same. And if they weren't particularly impressive in 2013 when the first game launched, they're pretty outdated in 2020. Which would be fine if the narrative was as good as the first game. But it isn't.    … Expand

    •The graphics are spectacular •The gameplay has improved over the original

    That’s where the positives end. The story here is borderline offensive if you loved the first game. Joel’s death is treated so horribly, Naughtydog seems to think it’s a good idea for Joel to act like a total dumbass after everything we saw from him in the first game. The gameplay and graphics aren’t enough to make up for a bad story. It would be acceptable if this wasn’t a linear, story-driven game. Everything seems to be going well after Joel’s death, Ellie acts out of character and Dina doesn’t really have a purpose besides being with Ellie. But you can get over that at first, you start to kill the people that wronged you. Then, later in the theater, Abby shows up just for the purpose of killing Jesse and giving Tommy a fake-out death. Right when it starts to escalate, you cut to playing as Abby.I don’t have a problem with seeing a villain’s point of view, but Abby gets as much playtime as Ellie. We got this game for Ellie, not for some cheeseburger **** Finally, after all that, you get to the final fight against Abby, you hurt her good, the fight gets brutal, but then, right when Abby is about to get what she deserves, Ellie lets her live. Ellie does this because she gets a flashback about Joel, even though, knowing her character, this would motivate her even more to kill Abby. Neil Druckmann absolutely butchered the story of this game, it’s pointless. I would rather forget this game exists than encourage anyone to buy it.    … Expand

When I was forced to play as Abby I audibly said whilst alone in my room at about 4 AM, “I’m going to kill myself”. There are some of the best sequences of gameplay when the player is forced to play as Abby, yet I was pretty disinterested for most of the time. I spent essentially the whole time when forced to be Abby wanting to just be Ellie again. I don’t really love or hate the ending, but I honestly think the ending would have been more satisfying if Ellie either did not go out to find Abby again, or have her actually kill Abby.… Expand

This game completely destroys everything that the first game accomplished, while presenting a messy story which will leave the player confused and irritated.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok. So. My biggest complaint. This game had clunky movements and it’s open world/linear mix didn’t mesh well for me. I expected more for a late generation game. Particularly one that is a sequel to such an amazing game from an earlier console. The next issue I had was that I went through 3 days as Ellie and then the same 3 days as Abby. I would have appreciated jumping between the two through each day, so when I got to day 3 I was finished. I felt like it broke up the narrative a bit too much. Lastly. I really did hate they killed Joel. I felt like they could have found a better way to do the revenge story. Like have everyone in Jackson get killed except Joel and Ellie. Then Joel and Ellie go on a vindictive journey. It could have brought out all the same points, but Joel wouldn’t be dead. I mainly didn’t like this because Joel made the first game. I didn’t enjoy playing as Ellie in the first game. I didn’t even care much for her character. I cared for her even less in this one. I also really didn’t appreciate playing as Abby. It was ok. Just not the most fun. She did some terrible things and was a terrible person. All I wanted was for her to die in the end. Lastly, the game play wasn’t different enough from the first one to keep me engaged. Now. Admittedly all these issues, except for the first one, are all minor. I just think that with my expectations, and all the minor annoyances I found in the game, that I just struggled to appreciate the game in the same level as some of the critics. All in all not the best game to close out a console generation. Ghost of Tsushima is better as a whole. Albeit not necessarily in every way.… Expand

    Gameplay & Graphics are fantastic. Story & Dialogue are atrocious though. Disrespectful to established characters, & the new characters were not compelling enough to win me over. I absolutely hated the dialogue, it was so forced and cringey. Overblown game that over stayed it's welcome. Any time I started to have fun, the story ruined it for me. Purchased digitally, I will not be replaying.

    Terrific! After 7 years of hard work Naughty Dog has represented an evolutionary game outstanding in every aspect. The bar has been elevated I don’t think I will like any other games after playing TLOU2 except for its sequel. Hopefully, we will have the luck to have part 3.

    To call it a game is to underestimate the whole endeavor - this is an experience, a piece of art and an emotional rollercoaster that left me heartbroken for days after the ending (and thats a good thing).
    Druckman had a vision and he wanted to share it without compromises and hesitation and I'm so glad Sony let him do it. He wanted to show how a dark world helped to create a dark side in characters. it wasn't supposed to be a happy story for Joel and Ellie. It wasn't supposed to be a streamlined continuation of the first game. It was supposed to be real and messy. And it was. Very real and very, very messy.
    This ride is so much more than a typical revenge story. Not many revenge tales succeed in diving deep inside the protagonist psyche and show how awful the loss of control and judgement can be.

    The addition of Abby. I didn't like it. At first. I'm glad they did it. Second only to the realness of Ellie's descent toward madness, a glimpse on the life on motivation of the "antagonist" (just another person trying to survive in crazy world) made the whole thing even harder to accept and process.

    This is not a game for people looking for a wholesome, happy story of people living together and overcoming hardness. This is not a game for people who can not accept that bad sh*t can and sometimes will happen (in life and on screen). This is a game for people who want to dive inside a dark and gritty vision of a master storyteller. For people who understand that art can't be artistic without flaws and good plot can't and won't appeal to everyone.

    A true masterpiece.

    *gameplay is awesome, soundtrack is magical and immersive, side characters are believable (if not very interesting), the attention to details is insane, atmosphere is haunting at all times and the ending...

    No es perfecto claramente tiene sus detalles pero hay mas cosas positivas que negativas hablando de jugabilidad, historia y graficos. te hace estar el la piel de ellie, sentir su odio, su tristesa y su nesesidad de venganza, te hace llorar al ver morir a tus compañeros de una manera tan cruda y realista.
    no te puedes encariñar con nadie por que al igual que en el primer juego mueren y no heroicamente

    I love every part of this game. The story and certain scenes have even transcended some award-winning movies I have ever watched. I couldn't believe there are so many brainless grudging folks simply slash a zero score mainly because the game made many brave yet groundbreaking attempts in its content. Thank you Naughty Dog, you are the best dream maker in the entertainment industry!
