I really hate to say it, but my disappointment is immeasurable with this game. It gets top score in everything but the one thing I loved about this series and that was the story. Prepare to be extremely disappointed. Neil Drukkman ruins his story line and characters, much like the recent Star Wars movies. **** might have decent gameplay mechanics, but is a terrible story teller, and should retire his man bun from the industry. Lame

Most things have already been said, a competent game ruined by stupid and illogic decisions from certain characters in crucial situations....without those it would be 6 or 7 out of 10 but this review is completely subjective so it's a 0/10 for me.

Can’t believe i was forced to play as someone i despise for a few hours before i deleted the game. Naughty Dog absolutely falsed advertised the game. That being said I played around ten hours of the game, after a certain event happens and to a beloved character I wasn’t motivated to continue on. I held that character deeply and wanted to be just like the character when I played the first last of us. I felt broken after experiencing what happened and it haunts my every waking moment and I’m traumatised, I’m nearly brought to tears every time I think about it and when a beloved character was so disrespected and taken out in a brutal manner, a big part of me died inside. I’ve been playing video games ever since I could hold a controller and love story telling, but I think this game has ruined both for me. Like I couldn’t continue on in the game I don’t think I’ll be able to continue on playing video games, it breaks my heart that the person I wanted to be back in 2013 when this game came out was taken away I don’t think I’m myself anymore. The graphics and gameplay is amazing but minus points for making me kill dogs. Expand

The music, the gameplay and the atmosphere are all great, but I just don't feel the story. I can see what they where trying to do with playing Abby to sympathies with her, but it's doesn't click with me. And the pacing is just off putting. Also the ending and the last flashback seemed weird, Ellie had a family, a home and everything seemed fine, but then Tommy comes out of nowhere to have Ellie kill Abby. Which she doesn't do, I know they want her break the ''cycle of revenge'', but it would have been better if she killed and gets back home, the same ending is happening and she realizes that it didn't fulfill her. In a way the ending is just that but it would have filled the players that didn't like Abby with satisfaction, and the players that like her would have been broken like the game wants the player to feel as it seems. Also the Joel Cutscene, she can forgive Abby but doesn't forgive Joel, I can see why but I just feels so rushed in the End. Anyway I would have liked a totally different story to begin with, maybe where they explore Ellies Immunity or maybe just a game where Abby is played with no Joel and Ellie. But that's just my Opinion, not a fact.

Character Inconsistencies, Cheap shocks, and Coincidences, and generally bad writing. The worst story I have seen in Video games. Gameplay Graphics and Sound is mostly good, but do you really want bad writing in a story-driven game? 5/10. Save your 60 bucks for Ghosts of Tsushima.

How many narrow passages can I crawl through before I realize there is always going to be a zombie or person who wants to murder me on the other side? Gameplay was repetitive. Jump some ledges, encounter some bad humans, go in a building and fight zombies. Search for loot. Repeat for 20 hours.

The story, well, not what I wanted, but it was also a jumbled mess that really wanted to convey something to all of us. I don’t think it succeeded at accomplishing that goal, whatever it was.

You can see what hard work, dedication and a toxic work environment by a triple A developer can produce. Having said that, the overall narrative and deceptive marketing truly negates the potential of this “masterpiece.” This really could of been something special. The sloppy writing, forced plot devices and contradictory character interactions spoiled the entire experience for me. It’s fine if you wanted to shock the audience, but instead this game pulls predictable “violence begets violence” themes with no resolution in the end. Ancillary characters died at the drop of a hat, while main characters only suffer emotional scaring. There is no real lesson here besides “don’t start something you can’t finish” and that unfinished business is the game’s own story quality. Hopefully this will be a lesson as to what really is important to storytelling and what lying to a loyal consumer base gets you. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
Espero que tenha um The Last of Us Part 3, e que seja com a Ellie, não com a Abby, pois The Last of Us é e sempre será Joel e Ellie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review contains spoilers. The Last of Us 2 is a true testament to how not to make a sequel for a game. While gameplay received better animations and such, it mostly remained the exact same and becomes monotonous and predictable over the 25+ hour story. While it’s not bad, you'd hope for a much bigger upgrade or overhaul of crafting and other gameplay mechanics, but many remained completely untouched. But the gameplay isn’t what causes this game to be a failure in my opinion, because that’s not what people really play TLOU for anyways. People play for the characters and story, which is nothing short of disappointing and misguided in this game. The utter lack of respect toward previous or even new characters prevents the player from getting invested in them, and the game fails to utilize the one relationship the player was already invested in going into the game. Instead they demolish that relationship, and never really show it getting back to anything of what it used to be. Most other characters in this game are stagnant and replaceable, and while they have good performances, fail to make me care about them in a meaningful way. That is, until they get brutally murdered on a quest for revenge. By the end of the game I was so numb to violence nothing shocked me anymore, and I’m not sure what the game was even trying to say through all this violence and misery. What I do know is that I feel devastated for Ellie and deep hatred for another character. I truly hope Naughty Dog lets this franchise die in the pit they dug for it. I absolutely loved the first game, but this train wreck wants me to feel depressed for nothing. Some of the lessons it tries to teach seem so stupidly simple I asked myself if I was even hearing it right. All I can hear now is the ringing in my ears after listening to one of my favorite games get pillaged and massacred in the name of “Subverted Expectations”. Do not recommend Expand

I fully regret having bought this game, and I am trying to resell it, at least recover a part of my lost money Mechanics and enemies are quite good, the story (80% most important part) does not deserve an opportunity. Firstly, they lied with the trailers they show to us. If Abby was such an important character and we were going to be forced play half of the game with her, why did not she appear more in the trailers? What were they afraid of? Then, they use Joel character in a scene where it is actually taking place with Jessie, so lying on us, cheating on us. And not only this, there are too much contradictions between first game and this other game make impossible to emphatize with Abby. Moreover, killing such a beloved character as Joel is (and even more in the way they did) it's a misrespect to the fans, who were the ones running to buy the game at launch price. They destroyed the saga. For me, the last of us 2 never existed. The story ends / continues in Joel and Ellie going back to Jackson after he saves her from a death she even knew would happen... It wastes the player time trying to convey in the worst way possible the damaging effect revenge has.
It deceives the player to believe on things that will not happen, from trailers, to statements to the actual story.

Furthermore, Naughty Dog has been aggressively suppressing all the reviews and discussion about the doubts that Elli would not be able to supplement Joel's patronage and farther-care feeling towards the girl, which was balancing the very harsh environment of the Last of Us Part I. Imagine my shocker when even after two hours of playing I couldn't actually start playing, because I had to skip endless cut scenes, which could interest only LGBT representatives. Above all, the game forces you to take the side of the lesbians, murderers and drag-addicts, because you won't have an opportunity for somebody else (!!!). This game is not only a fail, but it's a propaganda of the sick motives and values among children as well! I do assume that Naughty Dog Team in its major have made its choice, but let us and our children make their decisions on their own! You may have tricked me into buying Part II with lots of paid up reviews, but you would never convince to buy any of your games in the future. Naughty Dog should definitely step out of their LGBT surrounding, because they would be very surprised that non-LGBT normals are absolutely in its major all around the world! Expand

Let me start by saying TLOU 1 is one of my ( top 3 ) favorite games of all time. top tier character development and story telling that kept me coming back for more and getting me into all the feels. if you're looking for the same in part 2 do your self a favor and listen to everyone else who made the mistake and do not buy!!

to elaborate on the scores given above, the graphics ( im playing on a ps4 pro ) are amazing from the water, to the hair, to the grass the textures are on point and everything is smooth as butter. the score fits in right along with the game with no complaints in this section. definitely a beauty of a game.

the game play hasn't changed much since the first game which really didn't do this game any favors. repetitive combat, no puzzles, linear levels and mashing the square button when anything goes wrong. really left you wanting more and felt out dated.

and here we go for the story, oh boy its so bad i don"t even really know where to begin lets start with the forced politics in this game. no im not homophobic and i dont hate trans people but those characters were 100 percent forced into the series. people play video games to escape real world bull****. how ever that is not what even made this game so bad. Ellie and Joel have completely lost their personality and make decisions they otherwise wouldn't have made in the first game leading to things like joels death and many other poor choices along the way. all the new characters are introduced with little to no character development and then are killed off and you're expected to feel something? a little over half way through the game you are forced to play as Abby who i ( and many many others ) could care less about and they force you to try and feel bad about the decisions you previously made. i really wanted to put the game down at this point but i forced myself to keep going. after hours of pushing through the "revenge" story you've been playing all along is for nothing because all of a sudden Ellie has a change of heart and simply lets joels killer walk? because revenge is bad?? what a joke. bottom line this game destroyed the legacy the first game built, and everything you knew and loved through poor story telling and piss poor writing. essentially it is the season 8 game of thrones of video games. i wish i could erase this game from my memory, and i can see why half the studio left in the making.

In a nutshell: within the first few hours our hero Joel gets bludgeoned to death, by what appears to be a transgender girl/guy? While our Heroine Ellie is forced to watch without being able to save him. That killed the game for me, PERIOD! The Creators of this game Fooled us into thinking this was going to be a continuation of Joel and Ellie's adventure by using false media hype. Then to add insult to injury, the game halfway through Forces you to play as the transgender girl/guy that killed Joel and is now trying to kill Ellie. What?! No? Yes! that's the story arc. At this point I stopped playing. Tried to get a refund but PSN won't refund if the game was started. So now I'm not only heartbroken but angry as well. The Graphics are just Beautiful. the Art team did a great job. But it's unfortunate that the the writers Destroyed the the game for the fans. I accuse the developer of Fraud here. This game has very misleading trailers and the reviewers were allowed to talk only about the 1st half of the game based on the early copy agreement. ND gave fans the perspective that this is a revenge story with Joel and Ellie on the journey and the only playable character is Ellie.
ND talked about how this game is about honouring Joel and Ellie which is not true at all. They completely changed the last of us for the sake of telling a dark conflicted profound story but the execution was not good. If you love the characters in the 1st game, i recommend you not to play it cuz it is so disrespectful to fans. If you want a conflicting morale story with politics included, you may enjoy it. Even then you will find the pacing of the game bad and your interest in playing it will decline and you would just want to see the ending which is unsatisfying making the whole story and new game + pointless.

The game director said fun is not a word to describe the last of us 2 so if you are looking for a fun game, this is not it.

You might like characters but you will find it pointless to cuz of the story.

The gameplay , graphics, mechanics, voice acting are all amazing but the story fails and the last of us 1 was known for its beautiful story.

If you love tlou1 characters especially, let their story in your mind end there. If you are curious ,watch on youtube Joel confession to Tommy and Joel sings to Ellie, Ellie's museum birthday, Joel and Ellie guitar strings , Joel confession to Ellie,Joel Jackson party, Ellie talks about Joel decision.

Watch it in the this order.

If you love and care about the Joel Ellie Tommy relationship , do not play TLOU2.

    May your death be swift.

It's very lazy and cheap sure looks great as we can tell but it better look great with all that confined space you travel. Now you compare this to GOW and Detroit become human. We were promised more from Detroit become human. GOW looks great story isn't bad but it doesn't again give you many choices YOU want to make as a player. Games need to evolve as a whole and stop giving us "pretty" games pretty doesn't equal a good game. Sure I want my games looking good but I also want good amount of frames I want good game mechanics new ways to do things add and improve on game play be able to make choice in the game. People got mad with this because with this linear game story is what matters and they killed off Joel the cool older father figure that saves Ellie. Then making religious people out to mass murders of an insane cult. Then adding trans into the game weird choice but ok the story is all that needed to be good. That is all that mattered in this game. They F it up and you don't even get to decide the outcome. If you killed someone who was like a father to me and saved me your damn right your ass would be toast. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The disappointment coming from the last of us part 2 is huge. In my opinion the game deserves a 4/10 or a 6/10 at best. That from it's stunning graphics and for its new mechanics. After that the story is bad, it could have been way better. There's a million ways to rewrite the story to make it better, but it is what it is. The death of Joel could have been a very interesting and good way to set the story but the way it was handled made it just be there for the shock value that it would give. His death is at the beginning of the game, a couple hours in. If his death would have been after we have had some sort of empathy to the new character Abby, and we would have known her backstory maybe the story would have been great. Also, if we had gotten Abby and Ellie to grow close and then she finds out who Joel is would have served better to the story, or to have a situation were Abby is the one who has to be conflicted because she has grown close to them. Then we could have seen a way better death for Joel and give it more meaning to Ellie who just the night before had told Joel that she wanted to forgive him. Joel's death was handled the worst way possible, Tommy and Joel are portrayed way dumber than in the first game. They fall right into their trap and notice until Joel gets shot in the knee. The characters that we now from the first game are smart and would have never fall in this sort of trap. The Tommy and Joel from the first game would have had their hands on their guns from the moment they got off their horses because they don't trust these new guys. In the first game you have the scene with the hunters where Joel doesn't hesitate to run over the guy that was "injured". Additionally, we see Joel throughout the flashbacks and he hasn't forgotten how to deal with the infected. Then when Ellie sets out to get revenge over Joel's death, that part of the game was good. But after Abby surprises you at the theater they kill off Jesse who was a great character and deserved better as did Joel. In that moment you get a cliffhanger in which seems that Abby is going to kill Ellie and you transition to Abby's backstory. I felt like i didn't give a **** about the game anymore. I was going to play as Abby who killed one of my favorite characters in video games. Then you get the 10+ hours of game play as Abby that feels like a bunch of side quests and pointless **** that you have to do. There are some cool set pieces like the one where you're going on the horse through the town that is on fire. But at that moment I still didn't care about what could happen to Abby. After that we come back to the present at the theater and proceed to chase Ellie as Abby and beat her down. In this section of the game I would have liked for the game to have alternate endings. One that would let you kill Abby as Ellie in the theater. Also, how did it cross their minds that I as a player would be rooting for Abby when we have had Ellie since the first game and have been loving her character from then on. So in the game you have to chase Ellie down as Abby and beat the ever-living **** out of Ellie and Dina. It breaks my that this game had screwed over Ellie and Joel as much as it did. I get the approach but how are you going to make me try and emphasize with Abby when she killed a beloved character. The last part of game play I think was there because they wanted to make the game longer. Elie looses her family for going after Abby again and at that point the game felt good again, the story bothered me but playing as Ellie again gave me certain happiness. But the final boss battle against Abby feels good and the best they could have for the game. But what doesn't make sense is Ellie's decision to let Abby go. She had come all this far killing everyone in her path and at last she let's Abby go. I get that she remembered Joel and that he probably wouldn't have wanted this but this doesn't fit as the Ellie we have been playing. After losing two fingers in the battle with Abby she goes back home. At this point she tries to play the guitar, the only thing that's left from Joel and she can't play it. The flashback here is very good. This on and the one in the museum are very good but after that we come back to reality where Ellie has lost everything and that's were the game ends. This **** up story tries make Joel the bad guy by trying to emphasize with Ellie. That with the first game is a bad idea because we know Joel isn't a saint and we get to know the old Joel who has done terrible things to survive. In spite of that we still love him and Ellie, so this game doesn't work from that aspect. I truly was saying at the beginning this is going to be great, and throughout saying maybe it will better but it doesn't. We waited seven years for this game and we got a beautiful and stunning game with okay controls and a story as bad as it could get. to me the first game didn't need a sequel and it ended where it should have. My disappointment is huge. Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where to even begin with this one. I’ll start with I was so inclined to get my thoughts about this game out, that I created a Metacritic account. So here goes;

The Last of Us 2 feels as pretentious as it is shallow. It’s a slog of murder porn mixed with a paint by numbers “violence begets violence” plot that you can see coming from a mile away. It forces characters upon you that you’re clearly supposed to care about, but how can you when they’re so paper thin? Think of Star Wars in recent years - those types of characters they introduce and you’re immediately supposed to love them without any real reasoning.

I won’t say I didn’t enjoy some of my time with the game because I did...albeit that was very early on in the experience before the rinse repeat style gameplay just became a slog. Here’s what you’ll be doing throughout TLOU2; Cutscene>Walk around corridor area with dialogue>collect ammo/upgrades/craft ales/collectibles>walk through invisible barrier that spawns enemies into sandbox arena (sometimes a second enemy encounter after the first). Then you repeat them in some fashion. And that’s it.

While on the subject - the pacing isn’t very good. It starts out a bit slow then ramps up quickly...but by the time the first act is wrapping up you’ll have seen more cutscenes than are in most games. It’s not Metal Gear level but you’ll need to keep in mind you’re watching this game as much as you are playing it.

The plot - shallow and boring. Your basic violence is bad and nobody wins story. After a while, the shock factor just kind of loses all impact and it becomes almost comically overdone. Once you’ve committed your 10000th murder with the ol camera zoom in effect with an enemy with his face falling off it just sorta loses it’s impact, you know? And on the subject - that final fight with Ellie vs. Abby I was rolling my eyes and laughing. You can literally FEEL the Tryhard oozing from your screen throughout the entire experience and by the end you’re just beaten over the head with it. Abby’s dad was the surgeon from part 1...I’m sure the writers stayed up countless nights coming up with that mind altering twist. Barf.

Characters - anything lovable or redeemable about the original characters has been stripped away and reduced them to one dimensional murder beasts. Joel is probably the most likable out of the bunch and we all know what happens to him early on. Well, if you don’t take into account the constant flashback scenes that are peppered throughout the game which serve no value other than a masking the fact they wanted to include yet another cutscene. Owen’s voice acting sounds like the dude was sedated while recording. His delivery was the most bland, uninspiring bit of dialogue I’ve heard in a video game in a while. And all of Abby’s crew including herself we’re supposed to feel for and connect with and why? Just because.

The actual gameplay was fun for a bit until you realize just how uninspired and easy it really is. It’s a sandbox style arena encounter with multiple enemies where you get to take them out how ever you’d like. Guns blazing, quietly, or anywhere in between. There are other games that have done this type of combat so much better and by the end you realize you can just lay in the grass and murder everyone because the enemy AI is absolutely atrocious.

What you’re left with at the end of the day is a really gorgeous looking and sounding game. This aspect was a total homerun and I sincerely hope those that worked on these aspects of the game could see and hear this. The visual and audio fidelity in this game is second to none on the PS4 and there were times in which my brain was having a hard time remembering this was a video game I was looking at. Bravo to those groups! If I was basing my score on just these two aspects it would be 11 out of 10!

Unfortunately, the story, the gameplay, the characters all fell flat on their faces and not just fell, but down the stairs breaking every bone in their body until they were a bloody heaping mess (to keep in theme with this game). Feels like the creative vision of TLOU2 was to make a movie rather than a game, I mean we did have a gratuitous sex scene in there after all (yet again, I laughed during this...) so perhaps those directors can talk to HBO and see if they can start their movie or TV series production careers. They obviously are more concerned about this than making a video game that’s fun, meaningful, and doesn’t come off as contrived. It feels more like a fanfiction than a true sequel to the original game.

I think TLOU2 is a clear example of what happens when a creative team’s head gets overinflated due to past successes and loses sight of their core audience. It’s a real shame too because they had such a great opportunity here, but squandered it we can only assume to make a point. But what in the hell was that point exactly?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was a dissapointment. Not because I expected a full fan-service game where Joel and Ellie would roam the world happy together, but because of the simplistic, naive and really Preachy writing that provides the player with zero choices (e.g. alternate endings) and zero critical thinking: it feels as if there is just someone that yells "ohh look how bad revenge is", "how can you do that" the whole time you play.

The story does not have a steady pace, the dialogues are cringy and the characters (especially the secondary ones) seem to have lost their depth ad complexity (nothing like Bill, Sam, David or Riley of the first game).
Joel and Tommy are completely out of character (They say their names to the strangers in the first minutes, really???) and Joel's death is just anticlimactic for the shock-value of it no build-up, nothing.

We are forced to play as Abby, a character that the game reeally insists we have to like and sympathise with (some manipulative tricks here are ridiculous- see repetitive dog-petting while Ellie only kills dogs) and her gameplay takes up about 10-12 hours, almost half of the game, at a timing where there is so much anguish for what will happen to Ellie, that you simply want to be done with it and rush it. There were zero references on that aspect of the game, a really sneaky move by Naughty Dog, probably because they would be afraid of backlash that would reduce pre-orders.

Lastly, the ending is ridiculous. No closure, no revenge, Abby gets away after having commited her revenge, while Ellie regrets it and loses everything nonetheless. I wouldn't mind if both protagonists died and we got to see a more Shakespearean ending of nemesis for the so called circle of violence; that would at least be interesting. Instead, we get another anticlimactic moment and a mild hint for a part-three, that will be depended on the sales of the second one I am sure. Pity.

Why does ellie care so much about dina if they barley got together the night before. Before that dina was dating Jesse. Even though they knew each other for about 6 years that was pure friendship. Your telling me ellie is more worried about some girl she just hooked up with the night before. She acts like the events from the first game never happened. But with some random girl that lives in the town who barley shows interest in ellie, ellie feels the need to side track and try to find what their relationship means. If anything Dina should be the one who worries about their relationship and ellie should just be focused on her mission because she knows dina has been with Jesse already and there's no telling if they have feelings for each other still. Ellie should just brush her off. Dina is just all over the place because her and jesse were off and on again in their relationship. You mean to tell me that in the 6 years that they known each other dina never got with any other girl. She just magically had feelings for ellie. Ellie's dialogue doesn't really match with her thoughts. Too uplifting, reminds me of the first one which should be totally different from this one. The characters talk about too many things from the first one. Ellie isn't cold hearted enough in some sequences where you think she would be. Ellie's interrogation scene reminds you of Joel's which you wouldn't want. You would want something more brutal. Trying too hard to make Dina important. Reason for Joel's death could have been better. Feel like they just threw in the story of her being at the hospital just to justify her reason but I would believe a bunch of fireflies trying to save the world wouldn't let anybody bring kids. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics are cool, the combat controls have been refined, and it's entertaining, but if you loved the original, and you were really invested in the characters and story, you're going to hate it. Not only do they do my man Joel dirty right off the bat, but they try to get you to empathize with his roided-out assailant for ten hours of arduous gameplay. I don't care about Abby.

There are really too many plot holes and contradictions to list here. I couldn't even make it through the game. I was angry the whole time I played it. Not even at the foes I was chasing. I'm angry at Naughty Dog. They ruined it.

It wasn't just the hack writing. They decided to push even harder with the wokeness and social commentary that we really don't want in our stories and games today. I'mm tired of the shoe-horning of cultural politics. It's smashed in face face everywhere now. Of course they have to emasculate Tommy and kill the toxic straight white male from the last game. OF COURSE!

The original TLOU and Left Behind were great! I don't mind strong female characters, nor do I mind homosexuality. But it just feels forced. The sexualizing of this game has just ruined it as well. I don't care for it. It gives it a weird feel.

There are just too many reasons why hate this game, but I'm not normally this disgusted. Can we have games and movies that aren't all about social commentary and shaming men? IDK. Waste of my money.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just finished the game and there are so many problems I have for it. First The false advertisement, they advertised like Joel would be in the game a lot longer then he was by model swapping characters in the trailers if I knew that was the case I would have cancelled my pre order immediately. It is a completely scummy thing to do and before you say oh it’s a bait and switch no this is just pure lies which is no ok. Second is how they disrespected Joel the most beloved character by changing who he is you’re telling me the man who spotted a trap miles away would just give out his info to these random armed people and then center himself and make himself vulnerable? No no matter how long you live in a safe area those instincts don’t just go away it’s just poor writing on naughty dogs part. Then they make you feel like Joel is a bad guy for what he did to the surgeon who forced Joel’s hand. It’s made to seem like such a forced back story. The surgeon holds a scalpel up to and armed man trying to save Ellie. He sealed his own fate when he did that. Plus joe made the right call if you watch game theory’s video on Joel’s choice it’s well explained that the surgery is the worst choice possible in the first place and the vaccine would never work so Ellie would have died for nothing. The next problem is they make Ellie look like a villain, her seeking of revenge makes her look more and more evil by making her kill animals and the pregnant girl with Owen even though they both forced Ellie’s hand but you’re still made to feel guilty for it all. Then the unnecessary death Jessie because Ellie just leaves the map the screams here’s our base at the scene where she killed abbys friends just so it can be found just more lazy writing. By adding McGuffins at every turn in the story. The third huge problem is forcing us to play as Abby for Half the game, the person who killed Joel. I did not spend 60 dollars to hear about a story I could care less about. It is obvious they try so hard to make you like her by making her the good guy just after she tortured Joel for who knows how long. Joel killed her father quick he didn’t make him suffer for a long time like the psycho Abby. They make her look good by loving animals and helping two people get out from the trouble they are in and make her seem like such a loving and caring person. She was a poorly written character that was made to make you like her and make you feel bad for her. If they put even half the time into making the story line about Ellie and Joel like everyone wanted instead of making such a boring story about a new character no one wanted to know about there wouldn’t be so much hate for the game. Now they ending is what makes this game just so unbearable. Ellie and Dina have a good life they are finally happy. But they make Tommy into an ass just to guilt trip Ellie into getting revenge again. Ellie leaves everything behind to hunt Abby again making her look like the villain once again. Then when you finally find her they don’t even give you the satisfaction of getting your revenge Ellie is left maimed and Abby gets to go free Ellie returns to find Dina has left and Ellie is all alone. She finds Joel’s guitar and can’t play it due to her injuries instead of taking one of the only things she has left of him she leaves it behind and we have no closure for any parts of the story that we started. What happened to Dina and the baby? Where will Ellie go now? What about Tommy? Hell even their golden child Abby doesn’t get closure. If the game had just ended when Ellie and Dina would have settled down and Abby would have walked away I could have been happy with that ending it’s close for Ellie it’s the life she wanted but they had to destroy everything they built in the two games within an hour span. To me this game was lazy and instead of focusing on the character they should have they put their time into a new character who no one cared about and who isn’t the embodiment of the game series. The bond between Ellie and Joel was what made the first one so amazing but taking that all away within two how’s and making Ellie look like a villain towards Joel in the last moments together it just makes the game feel like a chore to complete. Now gameplay and visuals are great but I bought the game just for the story I knew from the first the gameplay would be fine and to me it was a spit in the face to what was truly loved about the first game. I was praying all game it would just be some big dream because honestly as much as I hate those endings it would have been 100 times better then what we got. Just save your money and stay away from the game I wish I could return it but it’s too late. Expand

Game pushes an agenda instead of telling a coherent story, and fails to develop characters in a realistic and thought out way.

7 years and this was the best they came up with, no characters you care about, well except the one with the caved in head.

Everything is fine except for the plot. It wasn’t worth giving Neal Darkman all control of the game. The point is not even in the wretched SJW, but in the way it was presented.

I felt so strongly against the poorly written story (compared to The Last of Us) that I made an account just to give it a bad review.

I don't care about SJW or anti SJW in my gaming, I just like a good story which this didn't have

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
