    Everything was perfect for me on this game (gameplay, graphisme, environments) except the story... I really waited to know the rest of this beautiful story after 7 years, but I'm so sad and dispointed of what you did and the problem is I think we buy The Last Of Us for the story mainly.

    Remember how the new Star Wars trilogy got butchered? How GOT season 8 got butchered? Well, the same thing happened to this. Characters you love don't act the way you'd expect them to. Some characters you love aren't even a part of the game. I don't want to type out paragraphs upon paragraphs but, the general gist is that the developers and publishers embargoed this game for good reason- they knew fans would not like the story, and tried to hide it, which is shady and disloyal. Neil Druckmann is a SJW idiot and has ruined the sequel to one of the best games of all time. I just...don't know how to convey my disappointment properly. The story makes you feel things, but not the same way the last game did. The story is bad. The new characters are shallow and bad. The resolutions to both are just BAD. Gameplay has not evolved ONE BIT from the first game.

    Graphics are good though. Wait to buy this game on a steep sale (no more than $15), otherwise just replay The Last Of Us. Rate this game a 1/5.    … Expand

    It looks beautiful and that's it... The story has tons of plot holes, doesn't have a satisfying ending and simply leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. Wish I could get my money back. This is a warning to the rest of you to save yours.

    A story driven game with a terrible story and zero respect for the game that came before it. It's the videogame equivalent of Terminator Dark Fate, Ghostbusters 2016 and modern Starwars, rolled into one awful mess, that only paid shill critics and bots will defend.

Then main issue is trailers showed JOEL ALIVE! but he gets killed two hours into my game play. Thus far whole store was annoying but I thought hey maybe it gets better. Let me slug thru it. No... It was horrible. Like I am done with this series. Traded the game in and laughed at large stack in game store of trade ins of this game alone.

    Honestly if I were this writing team. RETCON this game and start over. This has made your studio look bad... I should have listened to reviews but I thought hey let me give it a shot.

    $60 wasted on a game that was expected to be the best game ever. The magic and charisma that the first game had it is now gone in this game, it is a shame to admit that not all games are just as good as its graphics. Unfortunately, TLOU: II is one of those games, looks really good in the outside but in the inside it is all rotten.

The worst part is I feel like they will always think they are right and gamers' criticisms are illegitimate. This mentality is part of the problem leading to this dismal game. Oh well.     Well I played it and I was the biggest fan of this Franchise. I really was. I even wanted to know how to play guitar to play that song in the first trailer. But this game broke everything. The gameplay is really good but that don’t matter if the story is bad. Anyways I won’t ever buy a game of naughty dog and I want my 70 bucks back. Please don’t buy it if you still don’t know.

Various bugs that ruin the immersion which is basically the only thing this game has got going for it really. The graphics are good, it’s not super advanced graphics from older games on the system but more of a super polish and detail that makes the graphics stand out so much and give great immersions to it. The world is still super linear which is a bummer and a huge miss on ND’s part. The setup was there to search these outposts for information in an any order in an open world type of way which would have boosted the immersion of the this games world and just world exploration in general but instead the game keeps to being linear for story reason I guess? The story is pointless at best and a hot mess at worst. A personal revenge story is that last thing a fan would want for this game especially the way from the way it’s gone about the way it did. I believe what fans wanted to see the most was how the arguable bad decision Joel made at the end of the first game impacted the world in a plot that took a grander scale than what was shown in the game fans got and how the characters would try to fix this dangerous bloodthirsty world without a cure. As for the story we got I won’t go to into my points too in depth but on a rundown I can say most of the side characters were boring and had too much screen time, the main characters were out of character or were just also too boring to get attached to. The small talk when roaming is stupid. It’s like it’s trying to be uncharted but in that game it makes sense or even in the first TLOU it makes due to the way the characters aren’t absolutely at some of their worst times in their life it made sense for them for through out some casual words here and there. This game tries to be all brooding but then you get some causal dialogue from those brooding characters and it’s like a complete disconnect form the actual story. At last but not least the pacing and direction is all over the place. This could have easily been fixed if the game was like the first two hours all throughout the whole game where you hop back and forth between characters within reasonable time. Two problems fixed with one solution. I would rate this game lower if I took the marketing into consideration with the model swapping lie, the lighting changes and I think graphical changes(not sure about the graphics), and more realistic gameplay and enemy AI lies but there could have been limitation reasons for the latter two points(but not the deceiving model swapping) so I’ll subside my feelings to that. Over all this game is boring, dragged on, and had much lost potential. 3/10… Expand

Seems they had no story ideas so they had you play the story from to sides. They might have thought that was clever but nobody cares about Abby & the Scars. It was supposed to at least be Eliie's adventure, but they failed on that. The story (if you can find one) is full of plot holes & useless cutscenes. The fact that they spent years writing this steaming pile is just mind boggling. The ending is lame & I'd be surprised if they make a followup to this as they screwed the story up so badly that there is hardly any way to rectify it.… Expand

    Very poor effort by Sony and Naughty Dog. You had one thing to do: make the sequel just like the first game, but you failed completely. Where are the good characters and story? None in this game.

    Gameplay is the same thing also, I got totally bored around half of the game.

    The game has 10/10 graphics and almost close to that in gameplay and environment. But the story is appalling, their execution and pacing is just straight-up bad.
    The choices they made in what happened and when it happened, is just something that deserves a 0/10. But the gameplay and the rest is good, but the game is not worth playing in my opinion.

I never once seen any problems with political pushes, LGBTQ+ representation, and I also haven't seen a problem with religion. BUT the only reason I do not give this a 10/10 is due to some part of the story. I won't spoil anything in this review Because I've had it spoiled for me and it effected the fun I had slightly. Some parts of the story just seem out of order sometimes. Nothing that really bothers me or effects the game or story, but it just had some weird choices on certain events and when they happen. But overall this game is an amazing experience everyone should try before reviewing. If your someone who is debating on this game, I would say if you played and enjoyed the first game, play this one. Like seriously this game is hugely underrated. You'll kick yourself in the ass for agreeing with review bombers. And most people are forgetting. There's is a multiplayer coming out in the future.     Graphics - Top notch graphics, not perfect but very good.

    Level Design - Seattle has been nicely designed, however there were various times throughout the levels where I had no idea where I had to go and had to rely on the in-game hints that pop up. Gameplay - Sadly I found the gameplay, especially the combat, to be on a very similar level to the first game. The aiming and shooting    Graphics - Top notch graphics, not perfect but very good.

    Level Design - Seattle has been nicely designed, however there were various times throughout the levels where I had no idea where I had to go and had to rely on the in-game hints that pop up.

    Gameplay - Sadly I found the gameplay, especially the combat, to be on a very similar level to the first game. The aiming and shooting still feel very clunky, and the game was too long and felt like a drag after the half way point.

    Story - This is where the game breaks down for me, it's a weak plot triggered by the killing of a well loved character. The story is also told is such a disjointed order, that as soon as something important happens, you're back to another flashback. And not only that, you have to play as the killer for the second half of the game. The game tries to make you synthesize with the killer, but underestimates the attachment we have for the original characters.    … Expand

    Technically not a bad game. That's the best I can say about it: awful story, repetitive game play that only improves a little bit what we saw in the original The Last Of Us, which by the way was as boring as part II, in my opinion. It took me 30 endless hours to beat, I wish it had taken me 10-12 hours, it would be a better game for sure.

    Such a falloff from the last game...characters you dont care about, bad storytelling all around.
    The only redeeming quality from this game is the environments are truly beautiful. The flash back scene of Ellie and Joel in the dinosaur museum was great. Unfortunately we dont see many great scene like that to play through. Definitely not worth full price... or even half price currently.

El introducir personajes por cuestiones "políticamente correctas" y hacerlo el actor de todos lo actos mas violentos (e innecesarios) posicionando al mismo como uno de los personajes mas fuertes y poderosos. Donde para incluirlo y darle un origen con sentido tengan que incluso cambiar la pigmentación del cirujano que aparece en el primer juego rompiendo la continuidad para darle un minimo de coherencia y engañar a aquellos que no recuerdan esos detalles.     In the end Ellie sacrifices everything for nothing. All the characters on abbys side were awful and playing through their little side story and what not was arduous and genuinely not enjoyable. I will not replay this game and would like my money

TLOU2 has to be the most graphically groundbreaking game on PS4. The combat is exhilarating and the environments lush and realistic. Thats about it though. The comparison with the Last Jedi is well documented. I hate the way Naughty dog tries to emotionally manipulate the player into hate Ellie and care for Abby. There are no redeeming emotional qualities at the end of this game. Everyone loses. There so many logic fails that compound the gaming experience. Abbey is rammed down your throat and you are forced 'cheaply' yo try and care for her but you have no desire for her to survive, she seems to take revenge with no moral concerns. She was about to relish in slitting a pregnant womans throat whereas Ellie is visibly tormented by her actions yet you are made to play as Abby for half the game. Expanding on the logic fails. Abby has chance to kill Ellie - lets her go. Abby has another chance to kill Ellie - lets her go. Ellie after settling into somewhat comfortable existence then goes back out and after travelling half way across the country to find Abby AGAIN - lets her go. In all at the end Ellie is a shell of the person she was at the end of the first game. Joel has been **** all over, remember Joel.. One of the most beloved video games of all time that has less than 10 minutes of screen time in this game. You have absolutely no emotional fulfillment to take away at the end of the game. I don't care about sexual orientation or any of that. Its just the sheer disrespect of relationship between Ellie and Joel that I can't forgive and leaves me slightly heartbroken.     To begin with, the trailer that was released nearly 3 years ago about Ellie singing is misleading and has absolutely nothing to do with the actual game. In TLOU part 2 you wont get to kill or encounter fireflies (you do encounter former fireflies but whatever) and the new enemies of the game are some random people you never heard of, that are introduced with the killing of the main character in the series. The rest of the game is about seeking vengeance featuring Ellie and Abby ?! One of the people you hate straight from the beginning.
    You then spend hours in the same city (whereas in the first game you would actually play out a whole year) over only 3 days and that's basically 90% of the game. What actually makes the game really unlikeable is the fact that you play as Abby (i have nothing against the character although its introduction was meant to make the player hate it) for nearly 9-10 hours to show you that she isnt all wrong after all but what do we care tbh ? At this point of the game, the devs are just trying to force the player to like a character he labelled as the worst thing ever few hours back.

    But that's the plot, it's up to everyone to like it or not (and i'm not even talking about THAT sex scene, you what what i mean, that was really out of place and unnecessary, or the end that's not only sad but also frustrating and really not rewarding to the players that spent hours on the game).

    What makes the game really bad (in my opinion) is that it doesnt make any sense from the very beginning and is a disgrace to TLOU. Let me explain :

    At the very beginning of the game, you discover Abby and it is made very clear that she's looking for someone (we quickly understand that she's looking for Joel). She then, by some miracle gets rescued by this one guy out of everyone that could be patrolling.

    ' I take a short moment to remind you that in the first game it is made clear that neither Joel nor Tommy are stupid in any way, it is shown several moments that Joel is smart and the reason he's still alive after all this time is because he doesnt trust easily (just see how long it took him to accept Ellie is immune, how he dealt with Henry and Sam, how he found out about the ambush etc...) Basically, this guy might no be a genius but he's smart enough to be cautious about people.

    Then after, he (and his brother) follows Abby to her camp and then settle there without being careful what so ever, enter in their place apparently unarmed (at least for Joel) and then walk out in the middle of a room before telling out loud his name. Then gets surprised people know about him and doesnt even try to draw his gun, no. The guy that we learned to love in the first game despite all the pain he causes around him and the fact that he lies about Ellie, all of that is gone because he's now turned into a dumbass. I'm not gonna lie, at this point of the game i was already done and I never felt this pissed in a story-based videogame before. I didnt want to play anymore because what was next was pretty straight forward and predictable, its about seeking revenge.

    Not only is this enough to ruin everything you built up with the main protagonist of the first game that is now regarded as some idiot that can't fight back and dies for the sole purpose of giving a reason to play the game, but everyone has no also turned into some Biblic good samaritan and every time Ellie / Abby could die, they are spared for no valid reason except that they are main characters. In the first game, it didnt take longer that seconds for Joel to finish off Marlene because HE KNOWS she would go after them, gosh they even made it a thing in the first game. But in part 2 nah, lets not kill the girl that pretends she'll kill us. Nah, lets not kill the girl that's friend with a pregnant woman. Nah let's not kill the girl that killed my beloved spiritual father figure, my friend after i just had to kill nearly 200 people just to get to her.

    Idk man, this is disappointing. Dont buy this game, it's a major let down. Lets just hope they wont ruin it any more with a part 3...    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where to begin...the story of Last of Us II is a catastrophic failure. The reason for this is the same reason Game of Thrones Season 8 ended hollow, or why Star Wars VII-IX rang hollow. The reason is that the 'plot' does not 'earn' the story. In Star Wars, the characters don't evolve at all, they're just carried forward by the story and plot sometimes does and sometimes doesn't make sense in this regard. In Game of Thrones, Daenerys had every reason to burn the Red Keep to the ground and kill Cersei. The plot however did not give her reason to kill children and other civilians. But that's the story D&D wanted to tell so that's the story that got told, whether or not the plot supported it.

    Unlike movies and TV series however, what Mr. Druckman fails to remember is that Last of Us 2 is also an 'interactive' medium, which means that players do own their outcomes. Choice means players are invested in that outcome. Choice on how to navigate through a dangerous part of the game, choice on whether or not to throw the ball to the dog or outside the fence (as Abby), big choices and little choices. And in Last of Us Part II, key character decisions (such as whether Nora lives or dies, or Abby lives or dies, are critical to have the player 'engage' and feel responsible and accountable to the result).

    Let's take Joel as an example. He could have had a choice, either go back with the strangers he met in the snow, or part ways and trudge through Clickers with no ammunition and injuries. It's likely in both cases he'd have died as a result of the circumstances. At least in either case though, the player, not Mr. Druckman, are determining the outcome of their beloved characters. That's the difference between unidirectional media (movies or novels) and interactive media (Last of Us and Last of Us 2).

    Now Mr. Druckman might say that players had no more choices in part 1 than part 2. To an extent this is accurate, however in part 2 the stakes are a lot higher. The higher the stakes, the more opportunity players should have to be accountable for the outcome. Mass Effect (except the tail end of Mass Effect 3) did this brilliantly (and it too is a narrative game, so it can be done).

    Taking the interactive part out of the equation for a minute, there is 'plot' and 'story.' The story is what happens, and the plot are the events that lead us to the story's conclusion. (What happens? Joel dies would be a story). The plot, he is killed by someone who wants revenge or he is killed by clickers or he is killed by extreme cold etc. And each of these plot points have impacts on the characters who experience them.

    In one case, Ellie would blame herself for 'not' going with the strangers, in another she'd want revenge for what they did etc. The 'plot' allows for the story to advance. Without a plot, the story is not 'earned' and feels shallow or forced. That is what happens with Last of Us 2. Mr. Druckman forces characters to act against their own established modus operandis in order to artificially create plot that drives the story into the revenge/divisive brutal allegory that Last of Us 2 becomes.

    Unfortunately though, because a logical plot was abandoned to maintain the story that Mr. Druckman wanted to tell, Last of Us 2 is an abysmal tale of preaching about revenge, was rife with deus ex machina, and had a litany of plot holes.

    To you folks at Naughty Dog. It's not that Joel died, it's not even how he died, nor is it playing Abby for 10 hours that causes the frustrations among your most ardent fans. It's that the plot does not lead to those outcomes being earned or logical. The plot points you provided require suspension of disbelief, disengagement by the player, or acceptance that the characters' victories in Last of Us 1 were hollow and pointless and thus, the player's time invested in that game was meaningless. See where this is going?

    That may be the story you wanted to tell, great. It's your IP. Just give your players enough credit and have your writing team work a bit harder so the story is earned by the plot.

    As of now, because story is so central to Last of Us 2, and because it is so abysmally told through this game, you get a 1 rating from me on Metacritic (this is how I choose to voice my discontent with your approach to this game that 'I' put many hours into playing - It's my time to use as I see fit, I chose to play Last of Us 2, I regret doing so, and I'm telling you through my score that I regret doing so for ALL of the reasons I listed above).

    No amount of graphics, clever game-play, or amazing acting and motion capture can overcome LOU2's deficiency in plot and story. I hope next time, you give your fans enough credit and let them take part in bringing the story to the conclusion you want, vs cramming it down their throats with a plunger. We actually are smarter than you seem to think we are.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
