Honestly I think it's OK. But it should not be a game by its self. I think it would make a great campaign rather then a standalone game. The level design is very straightforward. And some of the mechanics aren't exactly the greatest. It's a lightsaber but can't cut through a wall? The enemies should be dead in one hit.

Truly underrated game by many. The title perfectly embodies the soul of Star Wars. The story is far superior to what we saw in the latest film trilogy. The sound, graphics and AI are of a high standard. The only problems are the repetitive movement with the spacecraft and the fact that it is not open world.

It´s a good "Sekiro" clone. The story is not the best, the characters are ok but play as a Jedi with a Lightsaber and the force makes fun. The maps are big and the enemy types are a lot. The BIGGEST problem in my opinion is "New Game+". It´s just for the cosmetics. You have to "grind" again for the all ability´s.

Masterpiece all the way to the end!! Im not a fan of star wars but this one hook me up right from the start. The gameplay system is flawless. Combat becomes addictive as soon as ypu start getting the timing and buttons right. You need to play it on jedi knight difficulty otherwise is too easy. Sometimes checkpoint system can be punishing but you learn to love that too.

The combat and core gameplay is basically a combination of all the From Software games combined, especially Sekiro and Dark Souls, and although it's not original, it is a lot of fun. The developers have successfully captured the gameplay elements that make for a good time. I would describe the gameplay as sci-fi Sekiro-lite. It's not nearly as refined or beautifully executed as Sekiro, but it works well enough.

Having played Recore a few months ago has given me perspective on Fallen Order. This is the true heir to the Metroid Prime series. it has the tried and true Metroidvania formula of unlocking various abilities as you progress through the main story, that allow you to go back unlock parts of the game, or items, which you could not get before. It also has the wonderful ability to scan the many different kinds of flora and fauna that you will encounter on the various worlds.

The downside is that the combat is kludgy compared to the Souls series. They don't quite approach the level of skill of the masters at FromSoft. It's not bad. It's just not great. It's pretty fun though. Also this is a Star Wars game, so the story is pretty awful. If you're like me, you find the Jedi lore about the force and choosing destiny, and the mawkish background exposition of tragic pasts to be pretty awful and heavy-handed. The characters aren't particularly memorable either.

At the beginning I really liked this game, but after 4-5 hours I really can't stand it. Controls and combats are aweful. It's almost unreal to fight against 2+ enemies. Level design is good, but navigation sucks. I don't like to return to the same locations because I didn't have a double jump ability but now I do. Even on PS5 there are plenty of freezes and FPS drops.

It has a good story and the combat feels like it should, it can be incredibly challenging but not inaccessible thanks to the choice of difficulty. Where it loses out is in the New Game+ area that is simply starting a new game with the cosmetics you have unlocked. Plus a couple extras. The level design is good but the map system could definitely be improved to clearly differentiate levels and show you the path to the place you are trying to get to. Played through completely on XSX and PS5, no issues on either console. If you have gamepass this is a must play. Expand

the story is simplistic which I don't mind. When going through the set open world it can be frustrating. the map can look confusing at times, leaving you not knowing where to go, or when revisiting. There's no fast travel, which can also be frustrating. when finishing a level you'd have to run all the way back to the ship.
Also on new game plus, the only thing you would keep is the cosmetics. This ruins the replayability experience.

Cal is an interesting and charismatic character, and it is easy to empathize with him. All the adventures he lives are exciting, and the way they are told and set is awesome. Speaking about the flaws, the biggest one on my list is navigation. The game has a metroidvania structure, so you often come back to levels you've previously visited, and it's a drag because of lack of any sort of fast travel. Respawn could've at least added the ability to fast travel back to the ship, let alone between meditation points. As some levels are quite intricate and large (notably planet Zeffo), it's often frustratingly difficult to figure out where to go next, especially if you're off-mission and just trying to collect some loot chest you missed before. The game really lacks some sort of a guiding line akin to Dead Space games.
My other, more minor, gripes would be some bland cliche moments in the story (repetition of morals like "failure is part of the way, you have to keep trying" is a bore), some technical issues on the base PS4 and the relative clunkiness of the main character, which results in some annoying moments when you are pitted against a large number of opponents. Also, once the main story is beaten, you have little left to do other than going for collectibles, while the main combat mechanics beg for an arena mode.

Still, the overall story is satisfying, the characters are likeable, and Respawn did a good job of intertwining this game with pretty much all the Star Wars canon - Fallen order has an abundance of welcome references to both Lucas' trilogies, spin-offs like the cartoons and Rogue One and even the sequels with one icy planet in particular that stands out. The lightsaber combat has some depth to it, linear Uncharted-style setpieces are fun and accelerate the pacing when it starts to drop, and the Soulslike mechanics are mostly serviceable, although it's kind of weird to see enemies respawn anytime you replenish health, and it's presented just as a game mechanic, without any story explanation. Music deserves an honorable mention - I caught goosebumps almost every time I heard the main menu theme.

Maybe it's because Jedi Fallen order is the first proper single player Star Wars game in like a decade, but it managed to bring back hope in me for the franchise. Looking forward to the inevitable sequel.

The story is good, not great. Plenty of glitches. Combat is extremely repetitive, I'm sure it works for some, not for me though. Would not recommend paying more than 20 dollars for this

It isn't completely perfect, this is one of the few games (outside of the PC) that actually has bugs, some of the skills you can upgrade are pretty bunk, and it would be nice if there was more customization for character appearance. But on the whole - we all bought this game to use the light sabre and this game nails it.

(the backtracking is kind of odd, don't really get that choice by the developer, but its not a game breaker by any means)

this seemed like some lazy ass story telling to me oh and that god damned ending i cant believe people haven't gone ME:3 on this game holy hell.

I've never seen a company so blatantly kill a game series on there own so fast. It was a good starting point to have cal build a new jedi order go through his story and force feed starwars to us. after game 1 jump to game 2 and now you get to create your own character who is now a young padawan in the new Jedi order.

i would have been happy as all hell to be able to vaguely create a journey (thinking something like kotor 1 / 2 space travel / planet adventure.) as this new padawan who finds him/her self as a Jedi.

Controls at times really thru me as well. you get to fight some other jedis and they have jedi attacks and moves and force powers. then heres you as cal who can just basically swing a lightsaber around..

controls are unresponsive at times especially when trying to dodge and jumping. jumping doesn't really matter later after wall running and double jump become a thing.

i noticed attacks missing the enemeys at times as well. lightsaber throw missed alot of the time to the point where i stopped using it. it would go through the enemy and back and do nothing.

This is because I wanted to explore the worlds in detail. I wanted to marvel at the different planets, fight against the Empire and feel like a Jedi. Jedi: Fallen Order has accomplished this for me. Each planet is quite large and enjoyable to explore. On the hardest difficulty, fights are tense and rewarding. The story is well told and while it is overall predictable, I felt it was well-developed and interesting. Every planet I visited, I often stopped to marvel at beautiful vistas hoping I could explore the far off artwork. To my surprise and satisfaction, you almost always could. Each combat scenario is a challenge and even the basic enemies can kill you. Larger encounters force you to strategise and carefully employ your variety of abilities. Boss and mini-boss encounters are exciting and the right mix of mechanically varied and cinematic. The platforming and exploration in the game is satisfying as well. You get new abilities to assist your exploration. In turn, you are also rewarded for exploration with hidden goodies and experience. I have read criticisms that exploration does not reward you enough. If your expectations are tempered, I do not think this will be a problem. To that end, you are rewarded with experience through greater combat encounters. You are also rewarded with health, force and droid ability upgrades. While the majority of other exploration rewards are cosmetic items, I found exploration enjoyable. I explored for the sake of experiencing the well-designed levels, seeing more beautiful environments and hunting down challenging combat encounters. I did experience some low-level frustrations. I was playing on a PS4 Pro and evening with the updates, load times were long. These were about 30 seconds per death, and I died often on the hardest starting difficulty. Texture pop-in was widespread and enemies often would load in late. Frame rate also dipped when loading new areas. I stress these were all minor inconveniences that did not deeply impact my enjoyment of the game. This game is excellent and I am greatly anticipating the next instalment. If you like Star Wars, challenging combat and exploration, I am very comfortable recommending this game. Just know that loot is mostly cosmetic and there are some minor technical issues. For me, it was a 9.5/10 and my game of the year so far (though I have a lot to catch up on). Expand

The game has infuriating platform bugs that can erase a couple hours of work if you are trying to avoid saving and respawning all enemies.

    ***The Gameplay is CLunky!
Even once you master the movement and attacking and defense= it's still clunk or sluggish..
Maybe it's the mediocre animation in the attacks/movements i dunno.. This usually ISN'T a deal breaker and usually only cost a game score of 1 point give/take.

~~Setting= Well atleast they avoided the awful non-canon mdeiocre Disney sequel story..
THIS is the problem with Disney murdering the EU/Legends.. All the great heroes & villains o the books who would be great story pieces are not available.
~~The Seventh Sister/Brother is 100X worse in every way compared to the original Imperial Inquisitors or Dark SIde Acolytes.
These Dudes had fleshed out stories.
BTW~ Many of these stories/character are from years before EPisode 1-3 prequel era books..
They we're the popular young reader books of the 1990's that are still floating around out there..
*Check out "The Glove of Darth Vader" ~or~ "Kenobi's Lightsaber" " Lost City of the Jedi "
These books set the story of The Empire being alot darker and Sith like compared to the more modern Evil corporate dictatorship.

~Comparing this game to The Force Unleashed & Jedi Knight Games(Academy,,Outkast)
because they are both ARPG like adventure games w/ jumping etc.

Well The Force Unleashed is a tad more arcadey where Fallen Order tried to be more realsistic/Sim like...Well when you go realistic Sim it's ALWAYS ging to be less fun and clunky because they are removing the uber parts.. which is nonsense considering force sensitivity and a trained Jedi apprentice close to the trials at that.
ALSO,,TheForceUnleashed played around with a "what-if" story of what-if you had a Super super force powered Jedi who was born of TWO(not 1) Jedi parents.. This is something we never had before. esp since Jedi weren't allowed to father offspring and if they didn it wouldn't be with another Jedi.

Even some of the year’s most beloved games like “Control” and “The Outer Worlds,” I ended up dropping because they just didn’t hold my interest. Little did I think this would be one of the games that blew me away the most. To put it into perspective, I personally am not a “Star Wars” fan. Nothing against the franchise, I understand its historical impact, but it’s not a series I get all that excited for (and, as goofy as this might sound, the constant toxicity of the “Star Wars” fanbase further discourages me and turns me away from it, no offense, just saying). However, even as a non-fan of the franchise, my love for gaming has put me in a position where I am willing to take chances on games that come from franchises I don’t care too much for if the games looks appealing (prime example, “Dragon Ball FighterZ.” Not a fan of “Dragon Ball,” but that’s one of my favorite fighting games this generation). So when I heard that Respawn Entertainment, who handled the fantastic “Titanfall 2,” was on board for a “Star Wars” game, my curiosity got the best of me. Little did I anticipate enjoying their Jedi adventure as much as I did.
“Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” has something in it for everyone, regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of the franchise: the prospect of a single player-focused adventure from EA in 2019 already had me excited, and this game lives up to it! The combat in the game feels smooth and controls wonderfully, the innumerable amount of tools at your disposal feel deep, well-balanced and fully-realized, I did initially worry about the balance when I first saw the game, but I think Respawn did a fantastic job with the balance as a whole, and it leads to an adventure that feels pretty great. The maps in the game are also very well-designed, vast and very fleshed out without getting to the point of losing you, and there’s a solid amount of challenge in the game, even if you play on one of the lower difficulties like I did. Luckily, that challenge doesn’t feel like “fake difficulty,” and it puts you to the test very well. Visually, the game is pretty solid, I enjoyed Cameron Monaghan’s performance in the lead role as Cal, and even as someone that doesn’t know much “Star Wars,” I do think the writing in the game is pretty good, too. The story feels epic, the characters are extremely memorable, and as serious as the story can get, I do like some of the moments where it slows down and feels a bit light (special shoutout to Cal’s relationship with his droid buddy BD-1, I thought there were some moments between those two that were honestly adorable and extremely charming).
In all honesty, this game came very close to being 10 out of 10 worthy. The only thing that holds it back from that bar for me is the graphical bugs and all-around issues with performance/frame rates/optimization. While some of the graphical mishaps were kind of minor, somewhat laughable moments that didn’t impact the game too heavily, the game as a whole does suffer from numerous dips in performance and frame rate that often make me wonder if the game got rushed out the door at all. Even months after its release, the game has several moments of chugging that tend to distract from the overall experience, and while they aren’t the worst thing in the world, those minor moments do tend to add up a bit.
Regardless, “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” is probably one of the best “Star Wars” games that we’ve gotten in a very long time, and with the recent struggles that EA has had with the license, it’s nice that Respawn Entertainment was able to swoop in, pick up the pieces, and craft something genuinely special with the license. While EA has largely struggled as of late, “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” is a huge diamond in the rough for the company, and it lays a good groundwork for potential future installments. I personally can’t wait to see what Respawn has up their sleeves for their next “Star Wars” adventure.
Final rating: 9 out of 10 “Awesome”

Idc if this is how the game was designed on purpose. It sucks and it’s stupid. It’s not fun to play. I’m at difficulty 1 out of 4 and 2 out of 4 is much much different from 1. The game should make a bigger difference between when the player is parrying and when the opponent is parrying - they both sound and look the same and so you can just hold down the block button and the game will make all sorts of noises as if the player is incurring massive damage.

The graphics are *so* bad. It feels like a 85-90%-finished game. You can pause, return from pause, and watch a landscape that was previously loaded before pressing pause have to load again and re-render itself...

If the Nintendo Switch can load (and keep loaded) the graphics for BotW then why can’t this game remember that I was looking at a tree and not an oblong greyish brown blob that *eventually* looks like a “tree” again after some additional loading?

The load times returning from respawn are quite long so IDK what’s going on in the meantime if it’s not collecting and retaining info.

Overall the platforming and backtracking gets irritating quickly since the level design isn't anything special.

The combat is probably the best part of the game because depending on the difficulty will have a nice challenge. The boss fights start to become repetitive after a while and start to throw multiple bosses already beaten together to make it more challenging.

All in all the game is okay but after a couple hours you will experience everything the game has to offer and the game will start to feel like a drag rather than a gripping game play experience.

You either progress or you don't, there are no choices other than searching for pointless crates and echos.

Then there is the combat. I will preface this by saying I don't enjoy dark souls style combat. But I can make it work if the controls are tight, the enemy behaviour is consistent and the camera works. This game has neither. In other games you need split second reactions or consistent patterns to defeat the enemy, but that only works if your character actually reacts to your split second reactions. And I don't mean the constant stagger, stun and knockback from literally everything other than a stormtrooper. I mean the floatiness of it, where you react and your character does a lengthy unnecessary animation which is inevitably interrupted by an instant enemy response.

Over and over again, you are being punished for lacklustre controls. It's next to impossible to recover from enemy combo attacks, if you get hit even once. You can't cancel your moves while every single enemy does it regularly. You have to commit to every attack while the creatures around you don't have to, can turn 180 mid swing or just outright power through your every move and perfectly timed parry, while your every move gets cancelled and you stagger over and over again while they chain unblockable attacks.

I only finished the game because it is Star Wars, if it wasn't I would quit after a couple of hours, it's not the dificulty, it's the **** dificulty. It's not about interesting strong enemies it's about fighting boring enemies with your hands bound behind your back. And while the visuals are interesting, the story actually isn't so don't bother.

    Lara Drake: Souls Wars
A massive corporation taking a tried and true formula and the most popular pop-culture franchise in history and they STILL manage to ruin it.
Fallen Order is a Tomb Raider and Uncharted rip-off where you happen to fight with a sword with a blade made out of light. It took me a couple of years to commit to buying this game and I'm glad I only paid around $20.00

The positive is that its a single player Star Wars game and at times its pretty to look at, but that's it.
There are 2 overarching issues with this game, and if there was better play testing and quality control at EA this game would have been much better.
    1) The protagonist is awful. He's boring and utterly uninteresting; AND
    2) The combat. Holy Jesus f'n Christ the combat is atrocious. Its so badly optimized it renders the game unplayable. I am a veteran of the SoulsBorne games and Sekiro, and Respawn has blatantly plagiarized the gameplay and it is as clear as day they have no f'n clue what they are doing.
This game is such a shame, such a crying shame, they should have rebooted Force Unleashed and made a more action oriented game, instead of ripping off gameplay perfected by FromSoft.
Honorable mentions are the onerous, boring puzzles and shoddy platforming and traversal.
The bright side of this god-awful game is that it has intrinsically changed how I view video games. As soon as they start to suck, as this did in about the second level, I delete it, sell it and move on.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A truly mediocre game. Just because it has star wars slapped on it doesn't make it great.

If you want a star wars kid simulator with frequent falling to your death and a plot that simultaneously feels boringly slow and weirdly rushed, this game is for you. It's not an outright carcrash, but far from a good game.

Also, the Wookies look bloody hilarious.

It creates a feeling like a Metroidvania in 3D. More surprising it is an EA game without loot boxes and micro-transactions. The story is set a few years after Revenge of the Sith. You are playing Cal Kestis a former Padawan (Pupil / trainee) who survived Order 66 (The extermination of >99% of the Jedi) and is hiding from the Empire as scrap salvaging worker on the planet Bracca. He has mostly abandoned his past and his connection with the force is unstable from the emotional scars he received during Order 66. When he uses the Force to safe a friend who is a coworker he gained the attention of the Empire in form of the Inquisitors (Jedi Hunters of the Empire and dark side users). This is the beginning of his adventure as fate / the force has other plans for him. The story starts a bit slowly or foreseeable but becomes better and better. The later half is excellent and deals with hard choices, psychology and how to deal with the past. You see Cal grow and develop on his journey. Then there is the co-star. The droid BD-1 who holds a precious secret in his secured data files. He accompanies Cal on his journey and is very useful and charming. Star Ward has a lot of great droids and BD-1 is easily one of them. Then there is the rest of the cast. Cere Junda who has even more scars on her soul than Cal, Greez Dritus who is stronger / more heroic than he thinks, the second sister who has a great backstory and others I consider a crime spoiling. There are of cause some familiar faces you will encounter. It delivers and the force is strong with the cast and story. Gameplay-wise it uses the exploration from the Tomb Raider reboot only better. You explore maps by climbing, jumping and using your force abilities or abilities from your droid BD-1 to advance. Both Cal and BD-1 will learn a lot of helpful new tricks. This opens new areas, shortcuts and new options. You can find treasures, secrets and background knowledge (lore) as Cal has a rare force ability that lets him experience echos of past events and emotions (glimpses). I really enjoyed this as there was so much stuff to find and hidden areas I was proud to access. The battle system reminded me of Dark Souls or has elements of it. Outside the story mode difficulty even standard enemies will be a threat when you just use button mashing. You have stims for healing but can only use them for a limited amount (Can increase the numbers by finding yellow special chest in the levels). To recharge the stims you must rest at a save point which restores all enemies you have previously defeated. Then you have an endurance bar for blocking that can be quickly depleted if you are not careful. Enemies can also have one for you to deplete. If you time your blocking correct you get a chance for a counter and if you deflect a blaster bolt with good timing you throw it back at the enemy. Looking at the map does not stop combat and if you die you lose you experience points that are below of a level up. You can get it back from the enemy that killed you. There is a limit how often you can use the force (Another bar) that can be filled up by attacking or resting (there are other unlockable options). The force is a unique tool that can slow enemies, push them away (and into an abyss for instant wins) and more. As you gain levels and progress the story you unlock more abilities that help you a lot. There are some clever puzzles to solve in the game. An excellent Metroidvania in this case. There are a few missteps for me: I hate the trope of breakable walls that I need a special ability to destroy when I have a Lightsaber that should work perfectly. I don't like the Dark Souls games even if I like the challenge (I have not enough time as worker and my reflexes are not as good as in my youth which the Mini NES / SNES showed me clearly). Most treasures are unrewarding especially the ponchos;-). The rest however is fine and the conclusion of the game is excellent but maybe something others dislike. I think it was fitting without a doubt. Overall this was a welcomed surprise and one of the best Star Wars games. It only slightly misses to be a 10/10 but this still means it is a great game. Expand

The shoved the clunkyness of Gears of War into Bloodborne, and the result is frustrating. It seems impossible to find any rhythm in combat, you'll hear that alot. Bloodborne is my 2nd best game of all time, behind only The Ocarina of Time. There is some fantastic presentation here and some fun exploring, but even turning down the difficulty to story mode, it felt like a chore.

Wonderful 3rd person adventure game with authentic visuals, design and sound from the franchise. As a massive lifelong Star Wars fan, they’ve got the vibe exactly right here - really hope this is the start of a trilogy!

Really enjoyed playing this game, it has a very nice narrative and a tone to it. I Cal should have a stronger personality however, and I did not find fighting mechanics very strong, at many time you feel underpowered when facing large groups of enemies. Despite, the game is for a great time.

This is a very good game. Amazing graphics like tomb raider. Fun abilities yet people are complaining because they can't grasp the mechanics. They just want an easy game. This is the best star wars video game ever made .it's not even close.

I like the souls mechanic in a star wars game , the game art looks amazing. It could be better if there is more character skills development (like i souls game) also character movement feels like abit clunky. In overall very nice experience, hope there will be a 2nd part.

The biggest flaw is that the navigation/map and level design is terrible in places. It can be difficult to see the route needed to get to particular objective (or even just back to your ship). On several occassions, I got near to where I thought I needed to be only to find a wall/unjumpable chasm in the way. I then attempted to backtrack to find that there are slides, jumps or ropes that force one-way travel. I also found the combat frustrating at times with some difficulty spikes when overcrowded by enemies (solved by turning difficulty down a notch). The stim is also a frustrating mechanic, especially early in the game when you do not have much health. The "stim" approach to health seems pointlessly copied from Souls games, which I hate. This game could have scored a 9 with just a few tweaks. Low points of the game = 5/10, good parts 9/10. Expand

As someone with limited time to play games, the shame of Fallen Order stems from multiple frustrations. It’s hard to fight and, worse, it’s hard to move. The game’s timing issues distracted me from both the story and the beautifully constructed worlds; I was too focused on simply staying alive. My many (many, many, many) deaths discouraged me from exploring worlds — all of them beautiful — as did the simple fact that traveling by foot (even a Jedi’s Force-enhanced feet) takes forever.

Respawn has shown us, and EA, that single player games are well enough alive and kicking and has set a bright future for the Star Wars franchise of videogames if they keep this up.
