Star Wars Fallen Order - The Newest release from Respawn entertainment of whom has brought us Titanfall and Apex Legends.

Star Wars the fallen order is (and is painful to admit) a brilliant game Backed by EA. I didn’t hold out much hope for this game but tried to stay positive due to its vast material and overall love for said universe and characters.

Respawn has done the universe proud by creating this gem of a game, the combat flows and the story is interesting and immersive. Characters are detailed and have complex back stories and some fan favourites make a few cameos here and there.

Not to say the game is perfect however... Fallen order is plagued with over the top platforming and on occasions very repetitive enemy groups, the meditation mechanic where interesting and intuitive let’s all KIA Mobs respawn back in the world from where they fell, although not an uncommon mechanic it can at times put a drag on your gameplay as enemies don’t patrol or move from place to place but stand motionless in designated spots.

In support though the meditation system makes for a canon friendly way of healing. The skill tree is well laid out and gives you a broad selection of skills to unlock and combine the further you delve into the game, through this you start to feel more powerful as Kal begins to reconnect to the force and in turn becomes more potent force skill wise.

Moving away from game mechanics - The overall story of a Jedi Padawan on the run is told beautifully through flash backs and in game cutscenes and overall gameplay. At times this can feel like just a hack and slash but overall story telling is near perfect in Respawns iteration into the star wars universe, my only gripe is how short the story is, and how character interaction outside cutscenes seems stagnant and pre done so to speak. If this were done on a ME Trilogy level of dialogue choice I’m sure this would make the overall story and feel perfect without flaws, we may see this in the second iteration but at this point who knows.

Moving on to customisation, the game boasts a wide variety of unlocks for Kal, the mantis, BD1 and of course your lightsaber! On the surface this seems to be an extensive library of cosmetics of which you could use to make your Kal... YOUR Kal, however most of these cosmetics bar lightsaber parts lack a certain flair, ponchos for Kal are mainly just slightly different colours of the same look bar about three, BD1s skins again are just slight colour variations with nothing to unique, and this also applies to the Mantis...

Lightsaber parts and later crystals really add your own personal touch to the Jedis weapon of choice, but sadly when it comes to other cosmetics it seems respawn just threw a few shades together and hoped for the best in this situation. Not to say this ruins the game... but more cosmetic unlocks would certainly add to player immersion in my opinion.

And finally enemies and bosses - Enemy types in Fallen Order are a plenty, from your common storm trooper to hulking ATSTs etc. Each has its own library card and backstory to tie you into the lore, this adds for great reading and overall feel to the universe when you can read into a certain enemy you may never have heard before, for instance I enjoyed the lore behind the purge troopers and in turn decided to look into them more outside of the game.

Bosses are there but at the same time not, you have your encounters with the inquisitors on multiple occasions but only two are sadly present in this game. Mini bosses such as purge troopers are a plenty but what added a certain challenge to the game on its highest difficulty were the hidden creatures scattered around the universe, these five or so beasts were named variants of creatures you’ve faced hundreds of times over, and although looking the same they boasted unique attack patterns and of course extra XP!

    In conclusion...

StarWars Fallen Order is a Stella game with a story driven narrative and a brilliant line of characters and enemies. The combat although can feel clunky at first can flow majestically once you learn how to parry and attack back. And overall game mechanics are nearly but not quite perfect, the meditation/Checkpoint system needs a little fine tuning and character dialogue certainly needs improving to add just that unique in the game feel, this goes for cosmetics also, where there may be many, most lack a unique feel. This is not to say some aren’t, but overall a bit more effort in character costumes would have pushed the envelope just a bit more! Lightsaber customisation brought me back to the Old Star Wars pc RPGs however, this was a gem in the rough and made the lack of costumes worth it... so finally I wholeheartedly recommend this game to any starwars fan and non.

I've lost count how often I've died because I simply missed the rope when jumping. Having save points so far apart then creates issues where you are faced with lengthy sections of countless mobs to fight, and if you lose you're back at the very start of the section. Even worse, if you go back to a save point to replenish health and 'health stims' then you will trigger a respawn of all the mobs. The story has some fantastic set pieces - the AT-AT on Kashyyyk - but most of the game is repetitive and going back and forth to the same planets constantly.
All in all I'm enjoying it, in between becoming incredibly frustrated with it.

My immediate impression when starting this game was how similar it was to the new Tomb Raider series. Many of the gameplay mechanics are copied, whether it’s climbing on rocks (it seems like > 10 percent of the game is spent doing this), squeezing through tight gaps, solving puzzles in ancient sites, conveniently sliding down some kind of nature ramp, swinging on ropes, and platforming across the landscape. This kind of gameplay is kind of fun at first, but gets boring quickly and kills the immersion. For example, why the **** do all these planets have nature slides? Oh, here comes another rock-climbing part. Great. **** this! I want to do Jedi stuff.

The lightsaber combat is satisfying and challenging. You get to one-hit generic stormtroopers as well as duel advanced STs who wield a variety of electric batons. Also, slicing through an imperial R2 unit and seeing the still-glowing shear of its dome fall to the ground really hits the spot. The boss fights are OK, but nothing special. However, the final boss fight is one of the greatest parts in the game, so if you’re struggling to finish due to boredom, keep on it.

I have no complaints about the story. It’s not KOTOR quality, but it will satisfy Star Wars fans. The adventures are meaningful and make sense. The voice acting was good, and the actor’s likenesses were used when possible, which was interesting, but also broke the immersion a bit. Overall I give this game a B.

I never wrote reviews before but Star Wars is one of my life's most loved story that i learned when i was a small child. Need to say that i love 4-6 chapters of the Lucas's saga shot in 77-82 of the 20th century more than 3 other screened in 2000's. I always wondered why nobody ever created vast open-world RPG based on Star Wars saga. It was a disappointment when i first launched SW Battlefront. Yeah, you can shoot and fly in some classical places of the theme but only multiplayer?! No story, no freedom, you can't feel yourself a part of the world. Just shooter... Battlefront 2 is the same. I was glad to hear that RPG action game is coming based on the story. And when i launched Fallen order - it was another disappointment. Yes, it has some pretty animation. Yes, it has a good fighting system. Yes it has good graphics. But everything else is awful. The story is simple and straight, and short. The world is small and non opened (although you may travel between maps after you discover them). You still can't travel between points inside each map (seriously? in 2019?! in rpg?!!). You have only one quest - main. No side quests. You can't shoot with a blaster (why?), you can't pick anything up, you can't fly or ride any transport. I think EA and Respawn really could do much better. There are a lot of examples like Witcher, Horizon zero dawn, ES5 Skyrim, Legend of Zelda and so on. Just use imagination. But not this time though. The game that ends in 20 hours of straight and far too predictable story telling/playing don't attract at all. I was really excited first 20-30 minutes. But then the play became dull and made me frustrated.

I will give 10 for animations - they are good.
10 for 3d models and fighting - i liked it.
7 for moving - its nice but sometimes you need to do obvious move like jump and catch the rope many times because "the jedi" can't catch it (??)... or you just fall down and die because the player don't see edges of the ground or whatever you stand on.
2 for the story - its simple, straight and short. No side quests.
2 for the world - 4 planets with different nature and sometimes nice exterior, but small, no fast travel and not open-world.
2 for limits - you can't use any transport in the game, no npc's to contact, no market, no loot, no armour, you can't change anything or use anything but the lightsaber and player's original clothing.
Music is classical and i won't score it.

One-time 'Tomb raider' kind of play just for checking the box. Regret the money paid.

It’s sad to think that the artists and designers that worked hard to create the game had to put out a product they knew was not ready.

Although I experienced no game breaking issues the game is plagued by minor issues. The controls in general feel sluggish and imprecise. Ropes, avoiding obstacles while sliding and jumping between balance beams is particularly problematic and I died many frustrating deaths while fighting the controls into doing what I wanted them to do.

The AI in general is poor, enemies seemed to lack any communication between themselves and swamp the player from every direction. This makes the parry mechanics hard to manage and you are often struck by one enemy while you are in the animations for attacking another. Enemies seem able to interrupt your animation yet you are often unable to interrupt your own animation. This is very noticeable while entering a run or when performing a dodge. Enemies are also easy to break and ‘cheese’. You will have enemies reach a doorway while attacking only to turn around and ignore you. One particular boss fight you can just walk through a large natural arch and the boss just walks off.

The game is at is best when you are left to explore and the soul’s like mechanics work well but in general it needed more time in development. It needed more set pieces, improved combat, less backtracking and better rewards for exploration. Hopefully they will learn from their mistakes and release a better sequel.

With this abilities, you can do other things so yo don't get bored.
There are other unspoken bad features like waiting time but I'm not talking about these features not having much effect on the game. I'm not a Star Wars fan but I gave it 9 because I love the game.

The game actually does look good - but due to the fact that it is made with unreal engine it feels like it is fake. Not the visuals no, it is just a feeling. It feels like you're just exploring an unreal engine demo. You re not getting physical feedback when fighting enemies. Puzzles are stupid. Classical star wars flute soundtracks help just a little bit. Being a huge SW fan, having almost every sw game played and finished i just feel bad. Not to mention extremely poor enemies list, fighting the same troopers with just a different gun in their hands - are you serious? Making me return to the planet i ve just left? And the ship - even in the old kotor series the ship meant something, it felt like a base. a haven. In this one it feels just like an uber. Expand

Stolen mechanics from Uncharted series, FromSoftware games and bunch of other titles , boring main story(and quite predictable), boring protagonist, as well as all the others characters in this game. And compilation of this makes of it a mediocre game.I've played more than five hours of it and I really tried to find something to hold me in this game but i couldn't. However the combat is just perfect, the skill tree is also simple and satisfying. There is also customization for your characters and ship which is neat, apparently there is a lot of bugs in this game, but in my 15+ hours of playtrough there was just 5-6 bugs, so it might be reasonable to at least mention it. The only thing that makes this game imperfect are the texture bugs and EA's promises that haven't been fully fulfilled. The story is short, still with errors and does not have the expressiveness of an AAA. But it is undoubtedly one of the best if not the best Star Wars game!

    Cal Kestis's character building = +1
The presence of many bugs and laggings and weird camera orientation frequently encountered during battle (and this is one year after release) = -.5

Whenever you have to swing from a vine it feels weird and hard to line up. Oh are we making vine swinging "more realistic" now? If I want realism I will go outside. The combat always feels clunky. Even with a database of how to beat everything after you've beaten it once you will still find yourself not able to smoothly crush your foes even when achievement hunting at the end. All in all this could have been a stellar game injecting life into the declining IP that is Star Wars. And it has some shining great moments. But all in all it was dragged down by the laziness of the design. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In a time where the star wars scene needed a desperate glimmer of hope. Jedi fallen order falls short.

A lot of people haled this as a good souls like game. In my experience, anything compared to dark souls, that is not from software, falls way short. And that is no different with this game. Attacks are poorly choreographed. enemies are too large in number for most encounters. (Played the last level on story mode because I just wasnt having enough fun to accept the challenge) The god forsaken uncharted pathfinding is abysmal. And navigating the map is a nightmare headache. The story ends poorly. But at least Vader is a bad ass.

I did enjoy seeing a mixture of lovable prequel and original trilogy assets. If it was more fun to play, I think it would have been an amazing game. Hopefully the gameplay feels better next time. But theyll probably have to sell that one to me with a console also.

That was a fun game, nice progression, good story. Some of the movement and fight mechanics were a bit clunky, and random dying all the time in jumping challenges is annoying, reminded me of the old PS3 Toy Story game at times. Which was a cool game, but dated. Maybe less buttons to memorize? I give it an 8 because the last 3 fights were super fun, with an epic end.

Who will win? One trained Jedi with a light saber and a wide variety of Force powers or four stormy bois with electric purple potato peelers?

Playing Fallen Order after Sekiro or Bloodborne is like trying to drive an 18-wheeler after driving a high-performance sports car. Combat in Souls-like games need tight, precise, responsive combat, but in Jedi Fallen Order, it's slow and sluggish.

Every action has a delay before you see it on screen and then a cooldown before you can make another action. While most Souls-like games treat blocking and parrying as variations of the same action, they feel like separate prompts in Fallen Order. A block is only 100% successful before an enemy attack; a block during an enemy attack but before the parry window most likely leads to taking damage. You cannot interrupt your own actions to block, parry, or dodge and there are no invulnerability windows (as far as I'm aware). This leaves you vulnerable to multiple enemies. It also leaves you vulnerable if you accidentally interact with environmental objects. You are easily staggered while enemies are only staggered when their stamina is depleted and only for one hit. This means a missed block, parry, or dodge of the first hit of a combo will likely kill you. Remember that every action has both a delay and an internal cooldown! Combined, this means four stormtroopers with the aforementioned purple potato peelers are frequently more dangerous than boss fights. There are crowd control Force powers late in the skill tree, but, again, THERE ARE DELAYS AND COOLDOWNS WITH EVERY ACTION. Trying to Force slow or push a group of stormtroopers leaves you wide open to attack -- again -- meaning crowd control Force powers are easy to interrupt and they frequently don't work even if you complete the action.

Overall game design feels terrible. Souls-like games expect you to die a lot, so dying should be part of the experience, but . . . Loading screens are interminable. There's no fast travel and a lot of backtracking. Meanwhile many areas only funnel one way and don't allow backtracking. This means if you go the wrong way, you will be going the wrong way for a long time. And there are many long, narrow, claustrophobic, non-interactive corridors which take forever to traverse. All of which make dying a chore rather than a part of the experience. And you can't reset your skill tree. Which means if you've taken no crowd control skills and end up in an arena with waves of multiple enemies . . . Well, you're SOL.

Also, platforming with the frequency of Fallen Order doesn't mix with the combat-focus of Souls-likes. It feels like I'm playing two separate games awkwardly smushed together, and neither one feels particularly fun.

The story seemed great from what I'd gotten through (Dathomir) before giving up, and the graphics are mostly great although occasionally muddy. The voice acting seems top notch, save the guy playing Cal Kestis who sounds like he's reading off of cue cards for a good chunk of the game. The actors who play the Second Sister and Cere are particularly good. Level design and enemy design are mostly repetitive and uninspiring. Character design was also fantastic, but Cal's Jedi master looked like a cartoon character out of The Clone Wars, which was a puzzling decision. There were some inventive moments that blew my mind, but they were too infrequent.

You cannot make a Souls-like game with combat this clunky and imprecise. One of the most disappointing games I've played, especially considering the overall favorable reviews.

Jedi Fallen Order was a game I was excited to play, I had really good hopes for it. It turned out, however, it was just an average game. Critics gave high ratings appearently because EA did just a tiny bit more of what they'd normally do, which isn't much to be fare. I'll review some points of the game, detailing exactly what is good and what is bad.

Graphics and performance: I'm really not into graphics, but this game clearly has a lazy job on this part. Everytime you enter a new area it tends to take some time to load the scenary. There were loads of cutscenes that had no animations or absence of lightsaber light. The part where you go training your abilities is just ridiculous, really bad execution. In the rest of the game in general, i didn't seem to care that much.
Glitches: talking about lazyness, there are some points of the game that really drove me crazy due to bugs making me fall from the game world, entirely stuck on a ledge in the middle of the fight, etcs. However, the more frustrating these things are, I didn't find many.
Story (Spoiler Free): A good story, it starts pretty slowly but gets good at the end.
Combat: It's tricky to get used to it, speacially if you're playing in hard difficulty or higher, but the longer the game goes, the better you get.
Story battles: this topic refers to every battle with every mob in the game, including bosses. Starting with the good, the boss battles were pretty satisfying, it really remembers how dark souls works, the one on one jedi duels are great. Now to the downside, encounters like these are pretty rare. The enemies you're most likely to encounter are stormtroopers and the wildlife. The stormtroopers tend to be ok, unless you're against the dark ones, these are really annoying (not challenging) to fight against, it takes several hits to finish them, considering the fact they are normal mobs. The wildlife is the pain in the butt however, it seems 90% of the game you're going up against some random spider of the wild who has insane amounts of health. All the time you get stunned by them in a way they go pillling up on you, stunning you over and over.
Saving/Healing/Upgrade system: Firstly, who thought this was a good idea? To save your game, you have to meditate (stand) on a circle present in some locations, why there isn't an autosave or a save button in the menu? This is stupid. To heal you do the same procedure, but when you do it, the area will restore the enemies. So combining these, the resulting problem is: you travel an area, get pretty weak, you have now the option to heal yourself, but face the tough enemies once again or you can just continue the path to die more ahead. This is a really stupid decision, because there are bosses who dont have the circle in front of them, once you die to them, you gotta go back all the way to the entrance. Similar to that, there are some puzzles (lenghty puzzles) that you solve after a fight, and there isn anywhere to heal, the result is that you die to the next wildlife and has to do it all over again just because there isnt any checkpoints.
Lightsaber: is pretty cool, you can choose the color, but it lacks upgrades, it is purely cosmetic
Movement: wall riding or sliding can be tough here, the game punishes you for not being exactly right while platforming or wall riding, this doesnt make the game challenging, its annoying.

Final verdict: the game has a great story, but many flaws. EA made an average game, and it surprised everyone due to the recent failures such as Anthem and Battlefront II (with the loot system). You don't feel like a jedi until the end of the game (and it might not even be what you expect). Not gonna say it was a waste of time and money, but, if you wanna buy it, I would highly recomend to do it in a sales period.

Solid game. Combat does get better thankfully. Very buggy and laggy as of May 2020 which is why it's got a 6.

Way too many frustrating glitches that make me want to play any other game than it. Average combat with fun ways to solve puzzles that get old very quickly, ranges from stupidly easy puzzles to needlessly complicated. Cringe!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You play as Cal Kestus, a Jedi who survived the purge. Your goal is to find a jedi holocron, which may help you rebuild the Jedi order. You are accompanied by Cere Junda, an ex Jedi, Greez, a pilot, aand best of all, BD-1, your droid companion. The combat is fluid and precise, although the level design is tideous, but rewarding. This game is very good. It tells an engaging story of Cal Kestis, a Jedi who is being hunted by the empire due to Order 66 being in effect. The game is set between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and Episode IV: A New Hope in the Star Wars chronology. If you are a big Star Wars fan, you will enjoy this game, but this game is very enjoyable even for non-fans in my opinion. The storyThis game is very good. If you are a big Star Wars fan, you will enjoy this game, but this game is very enjoyable even for non-fans in my opinion. The story is very well told, especially for a Star Wars game. The game is also very challenging, and while the gameplay is great, it can be very frustrating at times. The difficulty does not come off as unfair, but it does require lots of strategy and tactics when facing enemies, especially boss fights. Some people have equated this game's difficulty to that of Dark Souls. I personally would not go that far, but it will take you several attempts to get through several parts of this game, even if you are very good at the game. That might be a turn off for some people, but it also works in the game's favor. One thing that might not seem like a big deal but will bother you when you are playing the game is the in-game map. The map can be very confusing when you are trying to find where you need to go next for your next objective. The characters in the game are very well written and there are a few characters from the movies that make appearances in the game as well. The game is not a masterpiece, but it is still one of the better Star Wars games out there, especially when it comes to single player games. Expand

A game that has a lot of really good elements, held back by a few faults that could be overlooked, depending on the player.

First, the good: I really liked the story, and after playing the game with my 11-year-old step kid, so did he. It was a great memory for us together, and immediately after the game was over, he made a little Cal Lego guy, and that little dude already has some serious miles on him.

The game was hard, but we just right away turned the difficulty to ‘Story’ and we loved it. We are wusses, and we wear that badge very proudly. I would imagine we would have enjoyed the game a lot less had it even been on Normal, because the Souls influence is strong with this one.

Now, the not-so-good: The backtracking after your work is done on a planet. A fast travel system here would have put this game at a 9 for me, but my kid and I spent two entire sessions just trying to figure out the map of two planets in order to get back to the ship. The map doesn’t tell you which directions are passable or not if you’ve already explored them, meaning that you have to go and see if you can go that way or not, and my mental map is terrible—I’m always lost in real life. For some players who have a stronger sense of internal direction this wouldn’t be an issue, but it was for me.

Anyway, a really fun game, especially for a Star Wars fan—doubly especially for a well-oriented Star Wars fan.

The bugs make this adventure unfathomably tedious at times. Though both the story and gameplay were trite, they were good enough to deliver a decent experience. It's disappointing that it barely added anything meaningful to the Star Wars universe we all know and love but what else can you expect from a developer that is known for making first-person shooters?

Jedi: Fallen Order is the first Star Wars game I've ever played (besides Lego Star Wars lol), and I had an amazing time with my adventure. The feeling of slashing enemies with my lightsaber and enjoying an epic story was an amazing experience.

Combat issues made me mad for a reasonable number of times, as the dodging and blocking fail many a lot for no reason. The game hasn't also been

Besides some frustrations with gameplay, the story compensates it all, making it totally worth your money and time.

There are good parts in that game but the weakest points are the fights. It's so slow, so lazy, the character is very often responding too late at what you do or command that it's killing (literally sometimes...). Some bugs too, not too bad but i wonder why they didn't take care of that, at least in an update.

I wish I liked this game better, but I just don't. It feels like an unpolished Frankenstein of gaming's greatest hits. The platforming just isn't fun, and I genuinely love platforming. The Souls style combat mechanics just feels wrong for a Jedi with a lightsaber. I love the Souls games, but I just don't think it fits here. If you get over a slower start without powers, we can assure you, that it will only get better and better. An entertaining mix of Uncharted, Tomb Raider and Dark Souls set in the Star Wars universe. You don’t have to worry; the game is worth its full price. [Issue#300]

As someone with limited time to play games, the shame of Fallen Order stems from multiple frustrations. It’s hard to fight and, worse, it’s hard to move. The game’s timing issues distracted me from both the story and the beautifully constructed worlds; I was too focused on simply staying alive. My many (many, many, many) deaths discouraged me from exploring worlds — all of them beautiful — as did the simple fact that traveling by foot (even a Jedi’s Force-enhanced feet) takes forever.

Respawn has shown us, and EA, that single player games are well enough alive and kicking and has set a bright future for the Star Wars franchise of videogames if they keep this up.
