Annoying. Combat is difficult and camera doesn't seem to stay with targets. Controls are awkward and wayfinding is bad. Map is difficult to read and offers no assistance in finding directions.

A perfect step in the right direction for Star Wars fans!... with such detail, exploration and lore. Fallen Order is that single player experience set in what feels like perfect canon. The writing and care to detail is what makes it, combat can be a challenge finally and the characters carry the story well.

Only issues I find with fallen order is in its pacing and technical issues.

Sure, the game is pretty, and the story seems decent, but I can't subject myself to this torture anymore. The combat system in this game is absolute trash. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all about a game that is not only difficult, but provides me with a challenge to where I actually feel myself getting better the more I play, but this game does not provide such an experience. The combat inSure, the game is pretty, and the story seems decent, but I can't subject myself to this torture anymore. The combat system in this game is absolute trash. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all about a game that is not only difficult, but provides me with a challenge to where I actually feel myself getting better the more I play, but this game does not provide such an experience. The combat in this game is awful, and the odd thing about it, is that this is an intentional game design. They literally made the combat terrible on purpose. Dodging does absolutely nothing. Why add a dodge feature when you still get hit no matter what? Taking on multiple enemies is just atrocious to experience. Why? Not because the game is a challenge and I should just "get gud", but because the combat was clearly designed for one-on-one encounters. The field of view provides no vision of anything around you, so when an enemy leaps at you and goes behind you, they can immediately recover and hit you in the back, without you even having time to dodge in a certain direction to avoid this happening. And of course, as I said before, even if you do dodge to make sure you don't get hit in the back, it will still happen. The target lock system is an absolute joke. Targeting enemies is useless because the game will randomly unlock from targets during combat, so when you finally find that open moment where you can strike your enemy, you'll just miss because the target-lock disengaged. And when enemies slightly exit your field of view, the target-lock will just disengage again. This makes combat an absolute absurdity. The fact that I have to lock onto targets to even swing in the correct direction, the fact that when I dodge I still get hit (no matter the direction of my dodge nor the magnitude), the fact that the game just randomly decides to disengage combat while I'm being attacked, the fact that the game pits you against multiple enemies when the combat clearly wasn't designed for such encounters brings me to believe that this game just doesn't deserve a high rating. I haven't even mentioned the navigation. Jumping from platform to platform is an absolute chore, not only because you'll be pressing the jump button every two seconds, but because the character misses the platforms, ropes, edges, rails, etc. constantly, no matter what you do. This is because the camera is extremely inconveniently oriented and also because the jump distance is just barely enough to get you to most of the objects you'll be climbing onto. The game also gets a bad score from me because it doesn't even do a good job of explaining the combat system or the navigation system. It just expects you to figure it out, which, for a Star Wars game where you're literally playing as a Jedi that's already been trained, you'd think it would at least give you a good idea of what to do, but it provides no such service. I can't tell you how many times I had to go through the settings and look at the controls just to figure out what in the world was even happening with my controller. The controls make no sense and are completely different from any other game in this genre and the fact that it pits you against enemies that you haven't even learned the skill yet to take them on properly is just atrocious. I don't expect hand-holding, but I at least expect the game to make sense. You're a properly trained Jedi and you can't even use Force Push at the beginning. Apparently you can freeze objects and enemies, and sense the memories of objects by touching them, but you can't Force Push. Makes absolutely zero sense. If you want my advice, don't get this game, it's just not worth it. If you want the story, watch someone stream it or watch gameplay, but just don't give this developer your money, because this game could have been designed better by a five year old. Expand

Would it really have been so hard to have some of the gear give bonus' like +5 attack, +5 HP for the effort of getting the crates?

Weakest / limited Jedi / Padawan ever. Want to jump up to a ledge just above you - half the time you can and half you cannot. I'm talking like a few feet and you can't do it.

Rewards are laughable - spend time to get to a hard crate just to get a cosmetic change like a poncho. The only true gear upgrade is the double bladed lightsaber operates slightly differently for large numbers of enemies apparently.

Most Jedi powers are blah. If you want to play a game to experience being a Jedi - this isn't it.

His special ability is some ability to glimpse a past event. So you will find these blue shimmering things to connect with it and hear " this person died here" or "there was a fight here". Seriously - lmfao?

The purpose of these is to gain experience so you can get upgraded force powers that are so so at best.

They make part of levels inaccessible so you have to do them over to get to some crate that was inaccessible earlier in the game just to get "a new paint job for the Mantis - your ship". An over used method for games to make it seem like there is more content than there actually is.

Not very open world - very strict / limited to the path you will be taking. I kept thinking of Galaxy Quest when Sigorney Weaver would say "what is the purpose of this stuff in a ship when there were flames and chompers - the writers need to be shot" - the level design is set for plat former but that just really pushes the player away from the immersion as it's just too out there to be realistic on how you have to advance. Stormtrooper losses having to jump and skip around their base must have been enormous.

That's the game when you cut through all the hype and bs reviews.

This game doesn't have a traditional save system so my only option is to restart completely. this game is so medicore I can't bring myself the replay the first 6 hours over again. If my game hadn't glitched u would probably give it a 5.

It has soul style battles but falls short to sekiro. it has map puzzles but falls short to tomb raider. The story is linear with no choice for anything. There are hidden loot boxes but only gives you skins and custom paints.

If you are a star wars fan you may like this game. But if you are not, all you will get is mix of tiny pieces from various games.

EA must seriously have a game design catalog/manual. If making a Star Wars game, go to pg 55 and follow instructions. Please add far too many instances where the character will have to slide down on ice and jump just in time to grab a poorly designed rope...Check. (Please make it sure doesn't work at least a few times and on most obstacles even if timed correctly). Next, identify ledges on which character can jump onto by making it look like it's slathered in bird sh*t...Check."

Point is it's formulaic in the worst way. It's Soooo overdone and droll at times and chalk full of infuriatingly unnecessary obstacles or "puzzles". As many have already mention in their reviews, it makes the most fake and insulting facade of choice in where to explore first. "Here are some planets you can choose from but unless you choose the linear path, you won't be able to progress because you don't have the powers yet to bypass huge glowing red obstacles". how is that fun? how can anyone think it's entertaining to have to go back and try to find all the places you couldn't access the first around only to find useless things most all of which have no bearing on the game play itself. For example, lightsaber handles? It's gotta be one of the worst and again insulting attempts at giving one the impression they can customize their gear. Ponchos? Colors for your ship which you almost never look at? Switches for your lightsaber? at what point would I even be able to really see and appreciate my ability to change the color of my lightsaber switch?

There should be a rule that you can't include a workbench in a game unless they players can actually craft something, not just change cosmetics half of which aren't really noticeable the entire game while the other half are different colored ponchos.

The animation and movement really made me feel like I was playing an early PS3 game. it's clunky, counteriintuitive, and just bad. They did reproduce the awkward demeanor of the actor judging by his performance in Shameless. It just really is so so so overdone and not fun. So sick and tired of trying to jump onto a platform, falling, running back and trying again, falling running back and trying again. Why would EA think that's enjoyable? I can only assume the game is getting those higher reviews because of the franchise.

We are soooooo long overdue for a True, Actual and Immersive open world action/rpg Star Wars game. More genuine abilities, not having to use the force to make a quick dodge to the left or right so that i can boot the enemy doing practically damage. A force ability shouldn't have to be wasted on
increases to your force meter or health. Leveling up should handle that and points should be save for real skills that really change up play style.

I agree with others that it tries to incorporate elements from the Souls series except it doesn't pull it off half as well. I also agree with others about the ridiculous loading time when you die, especially having just played Death Stranding, a game with much more data, incredible graphics, amazing movement mechanics and yet takes about 6 seconds to load the screen for just about anything.

The game is overdone, annoying if not infuriating at times and just plain sucks. This seems like it's little more than EA needing a revenue influx for it 's board members and figures they can turn a quick buck by slapping a Star Wars theme on a washed out version of Uncharted, Prince of Persia, Metroid like game with tiny hints of a Souls game.

In fact, I own literally hundreds of games on my PS4 and am obviously pretty opinionated and yet it I just now made my metacritic account only to review this game. It's just so frustrating to be reminded that though we've come so far in gaming, that stupid rehashed games like this are still being cranked out. Enough already, we don't need to waste Waaaay too much time jumping onto ledges covered in bird droppings, climbing left or right along a wall, traversing a pipe that bears no risk and is just a different looking pathway or again, having to jump to grab a rope after an icy slip and slide or wait, even more challenging, jumping from one rope to another. These things a good game does not make. Only quick cash for EA Games. Wait till it's released for free on PS Plus, and even that might be paying too much. I gave it a one only because of nostalgia in being able to see the name star wars. that's it.

Much of the game is pulled from UC2, which is 10 years old now. It was marketed as a souls-like or something like Sekiro but it's far more casual and the character models are not as good as in games like Death Stranding or other top PlayStation games. The characters are also very bland and I did not care much about what actually happened.

I had hoped for a narrative-driven, modern take of the Star Wars universe that did away with complete open worldedness with the need to run endless pointless missions in order to level up. I had hoped for a game that would balance narrative with a strong, fluid, combat system that would put me on the offensive and allow me to develop a character that felt almost, but not quite god-like. I had hoped for immersiveness brought on by a detailed visual world with compelling characters; characters that made me feel something - anything. For the most part, I've been let down.

To start with, the combat system is stilted and fails to offer that free-flowing, fluidity I would expect from a light-saber wielding Jedi - you know, the ones you see in the movies, jumping, flipping, rolling, and throwing endless flourishes with their near weight-less light swords. This was my biggest disappointment. I think back to the days of the Jedi Knight series in the 00s, where I could endlessly chain swings, I could throw heavy attacks at will, with the only penalty being a time cost to throw the attack (and not draining a force meter), and I could endlessly block pathetic little laser blasts from the feeble stormtroopers. Sadly, none of this was to be. To make things worse, combat is further encumbered by the AI's ability to permanently stunlock you with a single blaster shot. If you get hit by a blaster, you become staggered, leaving an opening for the next and the next and the next blaster shot. My all-powerful Jedi character has the physical fortitude of a toothpick.

Using the force should have been a pleasure. It felt more like a chore. There is no fluidity in transitioning between a force push and a melee attack. Your character physically stops one action, resets frame in order to perform the next move. It's not a huge limitation in combat, but it does break the immersion - and it made me feel like I was truly a padawan, stopping between each attack as though I had forgotten something and was quickly trying to remember how to be a Jedi.

The ultimate fail in combat was the balance between offense and defense. The combat relies so much on playing defensively and rewards waiting for the opponent to attack first before parrying in order to set up a finisher. Again, this removed the fluidity to combat which Jedi are so well known for.

There were a couple of characters that I really enjoyed - unfortunately one of them is killed in the first 30 minutes of the game. Many of the others failed to deliver much in the way of emotional connection.

Still, the element of discovery as the protagonist progresses through the story, the beauty of the worlds, and the move to a slightly more puzzle and linear oriented gameplay (I am personally a little over open world for the time being) was refreshing, and well implemented (although not overly challenging).

The biggest detractor from a world design perspective, was the implementation of elements from the 90s and 00s where jumping and swinging from a rope was a big deal. While I did enjoy an element of linearity to the maps, with shortcuts thrown in for good measure, I felt like the way some of these were implemented with random ropes were not adequately thought out - it felt like this was simply the 'easy' option.

Finally, glitches. These will be patched - of that I'm certain. But at the time of release, there's clipping issues, camera issues, and NPCs doing all sorts of bizarre things. I feel like we're used to this in the modern day of meeting game deadlines, but the fact is we shouldn't have to be used to this. That being said, I'm not detracting any points in my review for glitches with the view that these will be fixed.

I've run out of steam. Long story short, the game had so much potential, but simply fails to deliver at every turn. In summary, combat was the biggest drain for me, which detracted so much from the enjoyment.

    World: 8/10
    Combat: 5/10
Story: 7/10 (although, with some of the lore, I could bump this up to 8/10)
    Characters: 6.5/10
    Visuals: 8/10
    Level Design: 6.5/10

My overall weighting: 6/10 - I place a lot of emphasis on the combat (my preference). if it wasn't for the combat, I could give this game 7-8/10.

To that I say: LIGHTEN UP!!! Enjoy the game for what it is, not what you want it to be or what company logo is on the box. Yes, the game's not perfect, there are a few bugs to be found.....but then again, what game DOESN'T have a few glitches here and there (as I recall, Witcher III had a plethora of bugs, yet it's heralded as one of the greatest games of all time, yet this game is penalized for it? Yeah, THAT makes sense! Lol). People also seem to be a bit harsh on the main character, saying he's boring. I honestly don't have a problem with him, but to each their own I suppose. It just seems like there's a lot of nitpicking going on about this game, but again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. As for me, I'm enjoying this title..... MUCH more than the boring, overrated Death Stranding! (How that game, as well as the one millionth damn Pokemon game has a higher Metacritic score than this game is beyond me) Anyway, in conclusion, do yourself a favor and pick this title up. That being said there's a lot to like about the game, but there's a lot of weird enemy glitchyness where they bounce below the deck to up in the sky, and the multi-enemy fighting sucks, and some of the hit boxes for platforming are bad like in previous reviews. But this is all patchable stuff. for a force user who can save his boy with a big force power first thing, you'd think a jedi would mind-move that rope a lil bit right?

What's more is the story seems good so far, there's really good cameo's even early on, and I'm really liking the different planets. I would've liked a little more customization from the start but at the end of the day I should see how it pans out. That being said, this game is an easy 7.5-8 whereas dark souls 3 is an easy 9. I'm giving the round up because of the complete lack of greed involved in releasing the game itself.
As glitchy as it is, though, the hardest difficulty can be stupid infuriating. As someone who's beat some souls games it's not satisfying, because half the time you glitch a win as much as you triumph or die. that's kinda meh.

No doubt, this is the game we are looking for.
the scenery is gorgeous, the typical star wars nitty gritty environment full of used droid oil flavor is brought back en point and the enemy types so far are great while sometimes frustrating (out of different reasons)
The story is an ok 7/10 with quit some flaws and quite some missing parts in the front end.. this game could have seriously used some horizon zero dawn treatment where you played the young eloy before you got thrown into the main story line.. there is no real in game justification for why Cal just seem to have forgotten some of his Jedi powers and needs to replay his old training missions with his Master other the game wants you to not unlock the entire planet at once.

the planets are meadow shooter, you have pathways and along them, enemies spawn.the enemy variety is ok to good with some wildlife being way harder than some of the human special enemies.

The maps are severely lacking some fast travel options since backtracking to your ship is always required and that backtrack alone makes you not want to go there in the first time.. i have traveled some areas more than i can count during my level up phase; since i remembered that one force power that i needed to remove that barrier only after already having left the planet.

As for the combat, there are two type of players .. the devil may cry /bayonetta type and the dark souls, sekiro, nioh, bloodrayne, lord of the lost type.. and if you dont like dark souls style you are not completely lost, but you will feel annoyed.. the combat has a very light "fight telegram" style where you need that one enemy move that you can counter and then hit attack with a series of combos and different attacks, the basic attack lacks almost everything, in mobility, range and damage but this improves over time when you unlock certain moves, which then make some enemy types going from a very tough fight to near trivial like dash strike where you gain an incredible range now but it requires some force..

also force pull and push gives you a suitable replacement for your lacking blaster (no , you cant use it like in control you will have to throw humans.. or other enemies)

most frustrating aspect is the complete lack of the traditional healing over time or finding healing items.
You start the game with 2 stim packs which give you approximately 50% health back and use some time to use but you cant regenerate any health until you rest and that will respawn all of the enemies.. -.-

Another frustrating aspect of the game is that most movements in this game are delayed. You will have to think and button press ahead.
Its not as annoying as in Lords of the Fallen where you have to press evade about 5 seconds before the boss even moves, but its noticeable.
When i "learned" force push i was hit by that trainings ball a good number of times before i noticed that i need to press it WAY before the ball was close to me in order to hit it.
Same goes with evade, or block, you need to think ahead and not just react.

the motion controls are in dire need of a more direct response. You will have this 1 second slip, when you go left and then press the opposite direction Cal will keep on moving 1 second to the left before he changes direction.. especially nasty on those sliding sections where this can easily yank you off the track..
The Camera sometimes yanks around you for no obvious reasons and since jumping and sliding in in the direction of the camera, this will let you shoot you off the target. one jumping puzzle i had to do with the activated lightsaber in order to get a bit more control

all in all a nice game, nothing ground breaking but in this day and age this is a desperately needed positive entry in the star wars franchise and i would dare to predict that Cal and BD-1 action figures will sell way better than Rose Ticos.

advice : start on low difficulty and get higher if you feel like it, other than Sekiro, it does have this bonus and its wise to use it. at least for the first run .

The Force and Jedi lore is broken after the Last Jedi, luckily, the game happens before all those nonsense and you know there will be cameos from the movies. To avoid spoiler, I would say all Star War fans and nerds should rejoice after seeing those cameos.

The combat does a good job of managing the reward of getting stronger, and ramping up difficulty. Enemies are varied enough to keep things interesting, but there are enough basic stormtroopers, etc. to make you feel like a powerful force-wielder. This game is very much a love letter to the fans of Star Wars, and if you are not big on the world the original trilogy created (and Rogue One expanded on), you will probably find this game lacking. The polish isn't on the level of God of War or Uncharted, but it does match their ability to completely immerse the player in the Star Wars universe.

The things that bug me the most are issues with what seems like input delay in combat, and using the force. If you're a Souls fan, I'm sure this wont be an issue, but the clunky controls can make combat a little difficult when you're expecting an attack or force push to get off before you're hit. It can be very punishing when you get ganged up on after thinking you had killed the guy before he shanked you, but it's not game-breaking. The platforming/traversal can get a bit wonky, and the ice-surfing bits are atrocious. Again, these issues aren't enough to kill my excitement while playing, or overall enjoyment.

Almost perfect level design, Star Wars featuring Dark Souls, Tomb Raider and Uncharted!

Weaknesses: There is no usable item system. Graphic issues not related to the look. Texture loading problems. I miss Sekiro's combat system, it would be fantastic in a Jedi-Jedi clash.

Best Star Wars game I’ve played in years! Respawn did a great job. EA should be pushing this but they invisibly aren’t since it isn’t monetized. In recommend you buy if you love Star Wars our action games with a lot of exploration and customization. You aren’t a seasoned Jedi but as you play you will be much more accustomed to the controls and will be thinking like a Jedi in no time. I’veBest Star Wars game I’ve played in years! Jedi: Fallen Order is exactly what the franchise needs and what the gaming industry needs even more.
I cannot explain in depth how deserving this game is of a 10/10 but I must explain that it may not be the most unique in terms of game-play, but that should not that be an issue.

The game-play is somewhat difficult and becomes very noticeable on higher difficulties.
The graphics are not amazing, but at times, the environment really makes you grasp the artistic direction the developers where going for.
The story is probably one of the most griping aspects of the game, which all together, makes this a great addition to the Star Wars universe.

One of the best Star Wars games recently made. The story keep you at the edge of your sit all the time and at the end it gives you a big surprise. The gameplay is perfectly made for the use of the lightsaber and BD-1 is the cutest thing ever made. 10/10 very recommend if you are a casual Starwars fan like me.

First Star Wars game in a while that’s worth picking up. Great combat, decent story, Good protagonist, nice level design and great soundtrack. Only issue is that, on my basic PS4, lags and pauses quite often

Jedi Fallen Order is better than the previous Star Wars garbage under Disney, but it's mediocre at best.

The "Uncharted/Tomb Raider" sections of levels (they're easily recognized) are abysmal, platforming in this game is comparable to Bubsy 3D. Not one time while wall climbing did I feel confident that the player character would move where I wanted him to, which resulted multiple times

The "Uncharted/Tomb Raider" sections of levels (they're easily recognized) are abysmal, platforming in this game is comparable to Bubsy 3D. Not one time while wall climbing did I feel confident that the player character would move where I wanted him to, which resulted multiple times in the character just jumping randomly off of walls/vines.

Combat is clumsy, the Jedi Knight games did lightsaber combat way better. This game's combat feels like smacking two action figures against each other. Plunging attacks are less reliable than in Dark Souls 2. Simply falling and pressing attack most of the time will NOT result in a plunging attack. Even Zelda Ocarina of Time, released in 1998, knew that a falling player pressing the attack button means they want to do a falling attack. This game apparently doesn't know that. The player character's animations are all far slower than every other enemy's attack animation, creating windows where enemies actually hit you two to three times before a single attack animation is complete.

And while we're on animation, this game has really bad animation quality. The player character runs like he's using Morrowind animations, and any action that interrupts an animation has just awful transitioning.

The game provides absolutely no reason for enemies to respawn when meditating, which is massively immersion breaking. Dark Souls and Code Vein both have in-world explanations for why enemies respawn. Killing Stormtroopers, running around the corner and meditating, and then returning to the same Stormtroopers you just killed makes absolutely no sense.

The game has some pretty bad balancing issues. Some areas have enemies that are pretty easy, and then suddenly there's this enemy that will kill you in a single hit just around the corner. With the amount of space between save points, this becomes a massive annoyance, more egregious than Dark Souls.

Performance issues. Can't speak for console, I'm playing on PC. Now, my rig is not weak. Intel i5 4690k, 16GB RAM, and a GTX1080Ti. This game will sometimes, randomly, get frame rate drops so bad that I would rather be stuck in pre-DSFix Undead Berg. Not to mention the game has crashed 4 times already.

The game isn't necessarily bad. Graphics are good, music and audio quality are good. The camera control is decent. But the game is also not good. The character writing is bad. Some animations last way too long and are unskippable, like when the player character inspects his lightsaber after customising it. This animation is pointless, lasts way too long (about 7 or so seconds), and is repeated every time you customise your lightsaber. You cannot move and it just serves to waste time. You already saw what it looks like when you customised it, you don't need to see it a second time. Also, enemies can aggro while you're opening a chest for cosmetics, and you can't do anything while they damage you two to three times as your animation resets to idle before going to combat.

All in all, this game is pretty disappointing. I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone to pay for this game. Unless you get it used for under $30 USD.

If you get over a slower start without powers, we can assure you, that it will only get better and better. An entertaining mix of Uncharted, Tomb Raider and Dark Souls set in the Star Wars universe. You don’t have to worry; the game is worth its full price. [Issue#300]

As someone with limited time to play games, the shame of Fallen Order stems from multiple frustrations. It’s hard to fight and, worse, it’s hard to move. The game’s timing issues distracted me from both the story and the beautifully constructed worlds; I was too focused on simply staying alive. My many (many, many, many) deaths discouraged me from exploring worlds — all of them beautiful — as did the simple fact that traveling by foot (even a Jedi’s Force-enhanced feet) takes forever.

Respawn has shown us, and EA, that single player games are well enough alive and kicking and has set a bright future for the Star Wars franchise of videogames if they keep this up.
