I am giving "1" because once I liked EA. Now what EA is doing with us and its attitude is awful, and whats more this is somehow our fault for we let them treat us like a bunch of brainless creatures. At the beginning of microtransactions, we accepted it and let it develop, so now they want only more money because they know that many of us (players) want to be the best, buy skins etc. EAI am giving "1" because once I liked EA. They didn't use DRM, they gave us a great story with great side quests and finally, they gave us 2 times DLC so huge that we could call it a different game. EA needs a lesson that will reveal the connection between gamers and developers. Expand

But then I having ignored this fact I issued the preorder of Deluxe edition version of a game and I did not read any information concerning a game that completely will enjoy it in day when it becomes available for play. And now having got access to a game for three days earlier I played it. It.....It terrible! What you problem EA?! You don’t have money? Maybe Battlefield 1 badly was on sale? Or can be after purchase of Respawn entertainment nothing remained? This madness! The system of lootboxes that allows any person who is capable to pay for them after purchase of your game the incredible force and level to which normal players should develop months! It is not enough to you to destroy game studios that made fine games, lived for the ideas and pleased millions of players worldwide, you want to turn the industry into huge bank where there will be no place to creativity and innovation! I anybody will not force not to buy battlefront 2 but if you think it I ask to make that think to whom you give the honestly earned money.

Mediocre single-player campaign, decent multiplayer variety and pretty good visuals. Unfortunately it is all brought down by the randomized, greedy, P2W loot crate progression system that is more of an offender than any horrible random "freemium" cash grab mobile game you could ever find in a mobile app store. All in a full priced "AAA game". Such a shame.

However, as everyone knows by now, the "pay to win" lootbox progression system has tainted any good image the game may have had. I suspect the high profit potential of micro transactions were irresistible for EA and Dice. And don't get me wrong, there is a lot of money to be made in that space. Mobile games are making a fortune, and Blizzard does quite well with their loot boxes in Overwatch. But unlike Overwatch, SWBF2 has tied character progression to loot boxes. Whatever skin/spray/voice line or pose a player has in Overwatch, it doesn't impact the player's ability in game. SWBF2 scorns fair play in favor of allowing if not encouraging players to gain advantage over others by paying for more chances at improving their characters.
Although EA/Dice has temporarily suspended all microtransactions in the game, the only true fix is if they make progression its own thing, and leave loot boxes for cosmetic skins, poses, ect..

To start off I will primarily talk about the game itself and not loot boxes. But before that, the game is heavily revolved around these crappy loot boxes which make going against people feel unbalanced and basically cheating, especially in heroes vs villains and starfighter assault modes. You can tell there was no balance for these modes with the star cards. Now for the game itself, IT ISTo start off I will primarily talk about the game itself and not loot boxes. You can tell there was no balance for these modes with the star cards. Now for the game itself, IT IS HORRIBLY BORING! this game is more boring than the first EA battlefront game! The newly added singleplayer is so predictable and boring, I ask my self why even bother to add it in the first place! Multiplayer.....OMFG, it is so lazy, unbalanced, boring, repetitive, and grindy. The maps get old instantly, I got bored of the game in less than 3 hours! The voice acting for Luke Skywalker, Leia and for Han is SO BAD! Lets also not forget how horrible Luke Skywalker is modeled. This game has very little effort even put into it, Don't just blame EA and LucasArts for this game blame DICE as well because they primarily try to make an excuse for no customization in this game when they can quite clearly make certain trooper types canon, Example they made stormtrooper shock troopers and shadow troopers canon! The last thing is you die SO....FAST it is unbelievable the combat in the OG battlefront is preferred just because you stay alive for much longer than you do in this game, the average lifespan of a trooper is an estimated of 6 seconds a pilot is estimated to be about 2 seconds. The only reason I give this game A 2/10 is that the clone wars voice acting is wonderful! The voice acting for Boba and Yoda is great, nice graphics and sound (which doesn't really mean anything to me since A. its a star wars game and B. its made by DICE having good graphics and sound is to be expected), please for the love of god if you want to play an ACTUALLY GOOD star wars game go on steam or GOG and get the OG battlefront games, the jedi outcast games, republic commando, and/or KOTOR(knights of the old republic) becuase at least games were not made by and for hyper active kids who have the attention span of a fly. This is my opinion hope it can have some impact into somebody looking to buy this game, which by al means you are entitled to do what you want with your money. But, I hope i can save you 60 dollars or what ever bundle you are looking to buy.

    Graphics:
As always DICE makes a phenomenal work with textures, lighting, skyboxes, etc. Frostbite engine as always one of the best game engines out there. (A part from Decima, Unreal and Unity engine)
Though sometimes the ragdoll effect when you kill enemies can be wonky at times, but it's not as big of an issue. Now to frame rate can be an ugly issue when you are in more busy areas, looking at you consoles.

    Sound:
They seem to deliver almost movie quality sounds with lasers ricochet in metals, wookie screams, spaceship sound effects, lightsabers, channel separations, etc. Everything is spot on amazing to be honest.

    Music:
It is a fantastic Star Wars score while they deliver different themes to certain characters. I would've been so mad if they got this part wrong but they didn't thankfully.

    Voice:
I'm not going to lie I was a little disappointed here, more in the writing than the delivery by the voice actors. At some point the internal conflict Iden Versio was experiencing should've been a bit more emotional and you will see that on later missions. Again it wasn't the voice actor, it was the writing which seemed a bit odd by the experiences the characters were experiencing at some times, which made them feel a bit off and anti-climatic. Also will leave you wondering why the emperor sounded like a post throat cancer operation warning video. A part from that the only issue was the writing.

    Gameplay:
As everybody would know by now the game takes place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Just to fill in the gaps of what happened during that time. I will not put spoilers, a part from that you will see the perspective of other heroes of the franchise. The story is around 5 hours if you play on the highest difficulty. The AI feels idiotic at lower difficulty levels, though at higher difficulty sometimes the issue is there at times you will encounter that the enemies will be behind cover and they will just come running straight through the middle and into your bullets leaving you wondering at why the enemy did that.
Also this game loves the term "You are leaving the mission area".

Here comes the juicy part Multiplayer:
You got your different game modes including Arcade, Galactic Assault, Heroes vs. Villains, Starfighter Assault, Blast and Strike with 10+ maps to jump into. Connection hasn't been that bad even with the 40 player game mode.
You get 4 different classes that you can choose from Officer, Specialist, Assault and Heavy class.

Now the bad part about this game microtransactions, which are destroying the game right now. EA has programmed themselves into a blackhole of stupid. This game has no feeling of progression at all and the star cards are either boosts or abilities that you can equip that are connected to opening loot crates. This leads into a player that has spent ridiculous amounts of money into getting the top tier cards, which will make him into an unkillable god that roasts everybody in the lobby rendering team play at times stupid. The game is a true definition of pay-to-win there is no doubt about it.

So at the end the fun factor at times it's there, but they are just trying to wrap you more into the graphics. Which will cause you to feel like "Oh man, the graphics are so cool I'm just going to play one more match, just want to experience one more thing or I just want to spend one more dollar to fully upgrade that star card."

Which leaves me in a dilemma that it really sucks that it has come down to this. That this game is 60 dollars but it feels like every mobile title out there.

The announcement of Battlefront II gave me excitement as it seemed EA had finally acknowledged the negative, constructive feedback from the first game. They may have enhanced graphic performance, got rid of paid DLC, added a story mode campaign and integrated new mechanics but overall the monetization aspect of the game clouds DICE’s advancements.

The main problem with the game is the multiplayer mode due to it being centred predominately around microtransactions and pay to win progression. The star card and crystal system are an absolute shambles as progression relies heavily on randomised loot crates. Furthermore, the game requires you to do unnecessary tasks such as grinding for 40 hours to unlock a single player character even if you have paid $60 for a deluxe copy. Overall, it gives off an unrewarding experience which is plagued by lootboxes.

Controversy aside, the single player campaign offers a new Star Wars story; complete with its new roster of characters, weapons and locations. Missions can be visually pleasing but as you delve into the rushed 4-hour campaign, it feels predictable and falls short. There is hardly any room for character development and the placement of well-known, iconic Star Wars alumni such as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo tends to take the shine away from the newly introduced characters.

In conclusion, Star Wars: Battlefront has left me unimpressed once again and regretful that I didn’t cancel my pre-order.

Forget all you've heard about the monetization practices Electronic Arts implemented in this game. Even without those, which are currently balanced out of the game shortly following its release, Battlefront 2 just is not fun to play.

The single factor that mars the experience so much in this game is the progression, or lack thereof. It's simply perplexing that DICE, a company that has developed games with near-perfect progression systems (followed by monetized progression systems that STILL felt rewarding) could botch it up this bad. You are not rewarded for your style of play but rather for your time spent playing. As a result you never feel in control of what you can unlock and the timing of rewards feel anticlimactic and boring.

This is a problem shared by DICE's previous game, Battlefield 1. Which brings us to Battlefront 2's second-biggest flaw: the meaninglessness of classes and team co-operation. Whereas BF1 failed in progression but mostly maintained the fun of choosing a loadout to maximize your potential and in turn your team's chances of winning, BF2 feels empty and pointless. No one seems to want to work with even one person on their team, and who can blame them when there is no incentive to do so? The way points are awarded at the end of the match seemed cruelly geared to discourage any heroics or even effort.

These two factors combine to rob Battlefront 2 of any merit. In the short term the gameplay is meaningless even if pretty to look at. In the long term everything feels like a grind and rewards seem to come too late or unexpectedly early.

Oh, and the campaign is really short and really dumb.

Stay away from this stink pile unless you find it for like $5, it will bore you after 3 hours.

This game has beautiful visuals, tight gameplay, and in general excellent production values. It's a shame you'll have to spend hundreds of additional dollars or thousands of hours in order to lock core features like playing as Darth Vader and developing playable classes with the terrible lootbox and trading card progression system.

You cannot charge £50 for a pay to win, unbalanced game with constant insentive to buy loot crates, and they even lowered rewards for completing the campaign. If they wanted to "create a game for the fans" there wouldn't be locked heroes, and perhaps you'd get the campaigns hero as a reward.

The story was lack luster and unengaging along with what seemed incomplete gameplay however it was reasonably fun, and engaging in some big battles was memorable which is a shame as a lot will forget it due to the EA side of the game. The multiplayer was unbalanced and felt like a repetitive grind after an arduous few hours, trying all game modes and all unbalanced classes, along with not being able to play as some iconic heroes due to the loot system requiring you to not only save for heroes but power ups as well. Moreover people can simply buy these power ups so it is in no way satisfying playing and saving for them, as someone could have just bought their way to having better gear than you.

Save your money, do not buy this. If you do, in other words you are supporting pay to win games, and micro transactions ruining what could have been a fantastic game.

It's pretty disappointing to see a game that could obviously have been great fail so hard at it - 8 for graphics, 7 for sound, 6 for story but the thing that kills it all are the combat mechanics. You run around as a jerky meat puppet, easily felled by a stray blaster shot. Enemies get mowed down similarly easy - all those storm troopers might as well wear bikinis for all that their armor is worth.

This makes the game feel utterly unrealistic, and walking through multiplayer as well as story missions feels more like avoiding random deaths then a test of skill and acquired powers.

it doesn't help that every mission and character comes with a different button layout.

Overall, I expected a lot more, and I am not even upset about the stupid micro transactions.

Heavy class weapons could use a buff as most are useless unless you are very close to the enemies and most of the fighting in galactic assault is longer range.
Obviously the P2W aspect but that's since been disabled so far.
There are truly some terrible maps that I just don't want to play.
No voice chat in game, in 2017 this should be standard.
Poor teamwork in a lot of matches because of no voice chat, this leads to frustration, shortening the game's lifespan.
No browsing for certain maps to play
Throwing me into empty lobbies/half full games.
The grind is horrible and it's even worse when you grind a gun to find out it's worthless. I've play a lot already and still don't have everything unlocked....it's the grindiest shooter I've ever played.

Without the epic gear you are pretty much just cannon fodder, and to unlock the gear you need to play an ungodly amount of time. If you are limited in game play time, such as work, family, etc... don't even bother.

There is a campaign but it is short and doesn't support co op play.

*** Single Player Campaign Review ***
Five Word Review: Cookie-cutter story, no ending.
Favorite Thing: It was short. Least Favorite Thing: It felt like I was playing a shooter from a decade ago and a bad one at that. Take away the Star Wars window dressing and you've got yourself a generic shooter. Also ... NO ENDING! Date Completed: 2017-11-21 Playtime: ~ 5h Enjoyment: 2/10

Microtransactions, loot boxes, pay to win, **** gameplay, terrible childish comunity, repetitive gameplay and many awful things that insult real gamers, do not buy this game, retro gaming is the way to go considering the ammount of expensive crap they are releasing nowadays.

i rented this game and am so bored with the crappy progression system and piss poor gameplay that i am sending it back. i dont think you can fix this game. I own the previous iteration as well. Single player is laughable. PVP is terrible.

Good game! The creators of the game very delicately experienced the world of Star wars. Excellent campaign, so many different and most importantly interesting game modes. It's just a pleasure to go into the game every time.

I'm going to start off by saying i am not jumping on this bandwagon against EA just because everyone else is doing it. This is from a neutral standpoint.
They gained 5 points from me because the multiplayer is actually quite fun, more isolated around Galactic Assault and Starfighter Assault. I've had some good games that keeps me coming back to play the game. This game does a good job

They gained 5 points from me because the multiplayer is actually quite fun, more isolated around Galactic Assault and Starfighter Assault. I've had some good games that keeps me coming back to play the game. This game does a good job with the intensity and keeping it at a high level on both game modes. That is about the extent of the good news. Everything else is very blan, unexciting, "Safe" just like their movies are. The Campaign is OK. Not very long, not very emotional, only sometimes exciting, cliche predictable plot and outcome. There are points in the story that really bring you in to the lore of Star Wars but not near enough for even 1 star towards it. The progression system revolving around cards only attainable by loot boxes really brings down this rating. The cards look and sound cool but have little difference between classes or vehicles. Across starting four classes they all have the same boost Starcards with one card having a different name for each class. For ability Starcards, the diversity is limited to cool downs and enhancements with a couple options to change what your ability actually is. Lastly I will mention that other than credits towards buying loot crates, there isn't much reward for you to do better, or be a better team player.

Thanks DICE for their hard and cool work. Game just changed like in fairy tales! Balance, progression system, and added more content. Yeah, game still having a some problems, but comparing it to the 2017 model, one just cannot help but be amazed at so many changes. Thanks for all DICE, and EA for listening and getting a kick from Disney started work on remaking the game

Excellent online action offers hours of Stormtooper-shooting fun, but the so-so campaign stumbles, while cynical loot crates leave a sour taste. [Jan 2017, p.83]

Star Wars Battlefront II provides a greater ambition than the previous installment. It has powerful war scenes, a brand new single player mode, and shows a much more magnificent Star Wars Universe. But just like the Jedi should be ware of the dark side of the Force, this game also meets some similar situations, such as beleaguered microtransaction elements and character growth problems. The first 10 hours of this game is full of surprises; however, the further you play this game, the more disappointed you will get.

Although game has huge problems with p2w microtransactions, it is still a good and fun gameplay experience with stunning visuals.
