This review is based on actually playing the game - and - has nothing to do with micro transactions.

This review is based on actually playing the game - and - has nothing to do with micro transactions.

I also like Star Wars, and found the Battlefront 1 to be pretty good at re-creating the feeling of being in the Star Wars universe.

The menus: are horrible to navigate. In the previous game, the classic Star Wars music would punch in the second you fired up the game and set the mood straight away, everything was very easy to navigate - and also looked really classy.

The maps: bland and "small" feeling. In BF1 the maps had real scale to them, everything felt huge, and again, nailed that sense of being in the SW universe.

The campaign: the most boring, uninspired, feels-like-it's-been-built-by-an-inexperienced-company, single player campaign I've ever played. The story is average, at best, but the actual gameplay is literally; walk (not run)... shoot... cutscene. It's soooo easy and "vanilla." It also feels very clunky; the way the characters squat and move is laughable.

Progression system: simply put... horrible and unrewarding.

The reason I'd give this a 3 is the sound. The sound is in a whole different league. The guns feel like you're shooting a cannon, and the overall, sound effects are phenomenal.

Verdict: a huge, huge, disappointment. A real misstep. I honestly have no idea what they were thinking.

Disney needs to pull this title from these developers, only way I will ever play another Star Wars game in my life. As for EA and Dice, good luck getting another dollar from me. Will intentionally avoid games from these developers and others that endorse pay to win systems.

So overall, avoid this game and support titles that are not micro transactions mills. - One of the many angry gamers

EA is evil. Money is the only think they care for. Absolutley no respect to the players. You have to buy the game for 60$ and you will find out that the game has free to play style of multiplayer. If you want some card to upgrade you character you must buy a lootbox for real money in other case you have to play over 400 hrs to unlock all iteams.

first of all, yeah there are some elements of pay to win, but i don't feel bad about them (i did not invest anything outside the game price) they give an edge to player true but they are all unlock-able in-game just by playing.. same as plenty other games (i agree some free to play and what not) that said, i'm the kind of player that don't mind those because i know by investing time in thefirst of all, yeah there are some elements of pay to win, but i don't feel bad about them (i did not invest anything outside the game price) they give an edge to player true but they are all unlock-able in-game just by playing.. same as plenty other games (i agree some free to play and what not) that said, i'm the kind of player that don't mind those because i know by investing time in the game that the gap will end up vanishing. for the rest here is my review.

    Pro's
    - Graphics are Beautiful and Vibrant on Ps4 Pro and Frame-rate was solid for me so far.
    - Sound is "AMAZING" it brings the game together on every level.
    - Finally some Offline mode like we requested wen the first one came out. Granted Campaign is not
the best of the best but Still a great addition and pretty cinematic at that the take from an imperial
character over the story is interesting and even though the Sequence where we play other hero's
pale a bit they are still fun and give a small "Training session" on how to use their powers.
    - Online is Solid and well made, being able to exchange points gained in a Match to spawn as a hero
or a Special unit is gratifying and usually make a difference in the tide of combat which i appreciate

    Con's
    - Micro-transaction yeah they are a bit of a pain, but most the upgrade they give are incremental
and small, except for Star-fighter those become WOW....
    - Limited Hero selection at first, since we need to unlock them I've been in a Match of Hero's vs
Villain's where i had to quit because all my hero's were locked or already selected.

in the end, i'm giving it a 8/10
i'm Enjoying the Game even with the flaws, i'm happy all the DLC are going to be Free and that i'm saving the Stupid Season pass price, but the most important, i'm just plain having fun.

The entire blind loot box experience can be compared 1 to 1 with a modern day slot machine in its application of addiction creating and reinforcing psychological techniques: the flashy spectacle and visuals that entertain the player, the obfuscated odds that change without warning, the false wins, and free rolls to trigger dopamine release and continue a perpetual cycle. They can use your playing habits to analyze how frustrated they can make you before you quit and give you a bone right before you do to keep you playing; repeat for as long as possible to give more opportunities for you to spend. This is why slots are the biggest money maker in casinos, and why these greedy parasites are trying to copy them for video games.

It's also the definition of pay to win. The supertrooper elite bundle straight up makes you the best thing on 2 legs for the foreseeable future because you've got a massive head start (especially now that micro-transactions were disabled). Gear/power based progression has zero place in a competitive multiplayer game. I don't stop playing StarCraft for 3 weeks to come back and get pwned by people who have permanently levelled up their damage or gotten abilities I don't have access to yet.

Sorry EA, but the defence that "it's not gambling because you always get something out of a loot box" is complete horse crap because a slot machine that pays out less than you put in on every play is still gambling. If it looks like a duck, and acts like a duck, it's a duck.

Lets also not forget that the single player campaign is hugely buggy, and unfinished. They are withholding the ending of the campaign until The Last Jedi releases to prevent spoilers... which begs the question of why they didn't just wait to release the complete game for the holidays instead.

If we have to sacrifice Star Wars on the altar of common decency then so be it. This game needs to fail hard to send a message to the entire industry that these disgusting practices will not be permitted to continue. That's coming from a lifelong Star Wars fan that owns basically every Star Wars book ever written.

As a family focused company, Disney needs to revoke EA's license (or at the very least the exclusivity clause) so we can see someone with actual ethics and love for the IP and its community make a game actually worth supporting.

I don't think I can stand more of this garbage for 7 more years.

the way the micro-transactions operate is incredibly similiar to a 'skinner-box'. skinner was a psychologist whom did alot of research into behavior. they basicly (ab)used this knowledge to maximize profit without caring about the mental health or financial well-being of their customer's. i highly recommend to read more about the research done by the aforementioned psychologist so you can make an informed decision on what kind of games to buy since these practice's seem to become more and prevalent in video-games.

    now to talk about the game itself;

it's an upgrades version of battlefront(2015) in which it does alot of things better gameplay wise, and its graphic fidelity is also very pleasing to the eye's. i personally had a great time playing the beta, i especially liked that they included space-battle's and a campaign!
but even though i enjoyed the game and i am a huge star wars nerd i wont buy this game.

the fact that disney, a company which develops products mostly around children. actually green-light such a harmfull feature to be implemented in a game which revolve's around their intellectual property is absolutely shamefull!

I have played it within 10 hours EA Access trial. This is a game designed as Pay-to-Win. Just to discourage such a behaviour in 60$ game - I am giving it an 0 point user score.
I cannot accept pay-to-win approach in game I have to pay the full price.
I know that now loot boxes are TEMPORARILY blocked. So I am waiting for permanently removal. Then I am open to change my scoring.

You are all braindead mediazombies, if youd really care about that problem you wouldnt buy all the cod's all the destiny' s alle the fifa's... You so called "gamers" disgust me...

But back to the game, swbf2 is a major AAA title and one of the best gemes this year and perhaps one of the best shooters of all time, i spent 4 days in the game so far and already have all heros just by playing the game and earning credits trough multiplayer matcher, missions and the storymode, so no, you dont need to pay real money for your locked heros, just play the **** game like you would play any other gamey so 30% of the critics here are just stupid because they rely soley on the fact that you have to buy the locked heroes, this is just not true so the reviews on this are all useless!

The maps are amazing, big but well designed, quite detailed and the sound is just astonishing!
Overall the content is top notch and best of all, everything after that is free so no playerbase split due to a season pass or premium pass, thats how it should be

Even the damn starcards aint a problem, i didnt spent a cent of real money on the lootboxes and already got a decent amount of good starcards, the amount of starcards and the variation is also really good!
And a have a lot left so even after many hours of playing i can still earn cards and get rewarded for playing the game!

I didnt care about the story but after finishing the well told story of iden versio and her fight for the good i was quite impressed and hope they will continue this story in swbf3
I found all secrets and enjoyed the impressive levels, all in all it took me a bit over 6 hours to complete the story fully and this is mainly a online shooter, the story though is longer and better than in some other "only singleplayer story games"

Its good to see though that the community has finally come together and take a stand, but you chose the wrong game, dice didnt deserve that, almost 80% of what people tell you about he lootboxes, locked chars and pay to win just isnt true, dont believe that **** that seems to happen now every year to a certain randomly choosen game, focus on the games and publishers that really deserve such an **** ubisoft releases game after games and every game they release is crap and just built on lies, and noone gives a **** activision rapes the gamers financially every year, for years now and people buy cod like idiots, why?
Why is noone going to boycott those games and publishers?

I really hope swbf2 sells good even they have a hard time with uninformed gamers and youtubers who think the can make money for telling lies and earning clicks for their sefeinvented stories...

This needs no explanation. They ruined the potentially great game with a terrible business model and a buggy launch. They call all of this a service. That's not a service.
Service is like Splatoon or the witcher 3. Where there are no gold editions, no micro's.

And as a young man, I watched the original Star Wars movie at my local theater 18 times and treasure my ticket stubs that I've kept all these years from that time. Of course I've seen all things Star Wars since then and perhaps am in the minority when I say that I even liked the prequel movies as well.

So it pains me to give this game a zero. To have to have my thoughts so radically skewed for a game that is so sublime in its creation and visual and gaming appeal has taken a great deal of effort on the part of its creators. The implementation of loot boxes in this game IS gambling. I don't have a problem with gambling. I don't have a problem with loot boxes. I don't even have a problem with "play to win". I can completely ignore these aspects of the game and still have fun. What I have a problem with is telling me it's not gambling when it clearly is. The mechanic is a game of chance that determines game-winning advantages. If that is not gambling, then I don't know what is. If you enjoy gambling, this is the game for you. For me, I'll pass.

Too many games made these days are trying milk gamers for all the cash they have and this game is at the top of that crap pile. The quality of the game falls to the side in favor for mechanics meant to manipulate consumers to part with their money.

Star Wars Battlefront II boils down to a game that looks very nice and is fun to play but overall just hurts you more than makes you happy. The single-player campaign is nothing but a nostalgia fest and considering I expected it to be a great bridge between the trilogies, I was severely disappointed. It is simply an 8-hour senseless shooter campaign that entices you with some pretty visuals while forcing you to accept the SJW nature that lies under the veil.

To say this game is pretentious would be an understatement. EA has armed themselves well with smoke and mirrors to misdirect people's attention from the game's glaring issues. The multiplayer may very well be the greatest failure I have ever seen in a video game. Decades of pride and honor that Lucas Film and Disney have spent building and shaping a universe for us to get lost in and what happens when we finally get to have an interactive experience that we can share with our friends in Battlefront II? Nothing. Nothing happens.

The game does not allow you to play your favourite heroes classes like you would be expect. For a game you've already paid money for, EA expect you to pay more. They take advantage of people's love for a series by slapping everything they want behind a paywall. The entire progression system is based around randomized loot boxes that can be bought with real money or earned in-game through HOURS of gameplay just for one. Almost everything you love about Star Wars is in these loot boxes and can't be played with when you first launch the game. The hero classes, which include series icons such as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca all require nearly 40 hours of play time for a single one.

I honestly can't believe how bad the practices within this industry have gotten. I want to remind everyone that the best way to combat scum like EA is to vote with your wallets. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

Multiplayer is Great, Heroes vs Villains is amazing, and the rest is just as good, progression so far is easy and quick (in a few hours i got Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker), nothing i felt was OP so i dont get how paying for Lootboxes would have been an advantage over F2P players.

Arcade is great for offline with Scenarios like the firsts missions in the original 2015 Battlefront but based on more of the eras. custom games are great fun though with only 2 modes, but with loads of options that is basically all you need for offline bots. each are still fun, (needs starfighter assault mode though)

Graphics wise is some of the best i have seen with the character models that arent human look almost like the real thing from the movies, (maz looks Brilliant and yoda is cute... wait did i just say that) minus some distance objects popping in and out. Audio is the best in any star wars game and listening to Kylo rens lightsaber is just the best thing in the world. each world is masterfully recreated here and nothing can deny that. the ships are well made and modeled as well. the amount of small details in these worlds is great as well from the wild life running/flying around to the floor and sky details. finally making a return from The Forced Unleashed 2, lightsabers are able to cut the floors and walls when you slice them or just move around them.

i might be a little bias being a star wars fan and even loved the Prequels because i watched them first as a kid (episode 3 my first ever star wars film in the cinemas back in 2005 was a brilliant experience), but that doesnt change the fact this is the best start wars game in A LONG TIME, though i did like The Forced Unleashed II which was great

This terrible system will hopefully be the reason this game doesn't see great sales. I would advise against buying this game. Maybe at some point EA will realise that consumer approval does matter if they start to see financial favour. On top of this many of the positive metacritic reviews have only reviewed SWBF2, and they all seemed to be giving very little attention to the backward, broken progression system.

The highlights would be the stunning visuals and fantastic sound design. DICE always seems toget these right. Unfortunately this is hampered by a buggy launch for both multiplayer and campaign. It is a crying shame that an otherwise 6-7/10 game has been obliterated by its disgraceful, borderline gambling pay to win system. A boycott is definately in order.

This company does not want to give a good product in good faith, they want to make it and sell it to you in disparate pieces. Holding a carrot on a stick like this is the capitalist equivalent of an abusive spouse. When they screw up badly enough, they'll play nice for a month or two, but when they sense any comfort, they'll be stealing money out of your wallet for another "special massage" from some girl named Sha-Dynasty. Respect yourself and don't buy any of their products.

    Pay to win = NOPE!

Paid content in full price games is supposed to be cosmetic only! Everyone knows this! Loot crates in general are one of the worse trends to happen to gaming in recent history. No one likes them, we just tolerated them until now.

I played this on a friends console and I will be staying away. WIll try it again when the price drops to $5. Expand

This is trash, not a game. Pay to win as in mobile gaming. Do not even consider buying this game if you don't want to sponsor EA and make microtransactions a norm in today's games.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) is the worst video game I have ever played in my life. The amount of greed that EA has is astronomical. You have to buy a “loot box” which is essentially online gambling to get a chance to get the upgrade you want. It is extremely PAY TO WIN and is the most predatorial game I have ever seen in my life. The entire game is designed to suck dry anyone with a gambling addiction and the game FREAKING TARGETS CHILDREN EXPOSING THEM TO GAMBLING!!!!! Avoid this game like it is the plague because if you want to do anything in this game you are going to easily be forced to pay well over $400 to make any significant progress or play over 1 year of straight gameplay without turning it off or including losing screens or menus. I highly recommend that you DO NOT BUY THIS GAME AT ALL COSTS. This can not be allowed to continue or happen in the future. Expand

No micro transactions when you already have to fork out a hundred bucks + plus +++++. This crap will stop. Can't enjoy a game that is teaching my kids to gamble. EA are a low bunch of grubs trying to profit of parents when they have already paid there hard earned money for this product. This game really is in a galaxy far far away for me.

I'm giving this a nine because I think it's an 8.5 and the game is getting slaughtered in the user scores so I went with a nine instead of an eight.

I'll start with the new addition, which is the campaign. It reminds me of a Call of Duty campaign; it's short, it's got a "just okay" story and it's fun gameplay. Multiplayer is where this game shines, largely because there's so many

Multiplayer is where this game shines, largely because there's so many cool and different modes to play. There's HUGE maps and numbers of players, not you can play as small as 8 vs 8, 10 vs 10, or even just 4v4 with the best characters in the game. There's also epic space battles with vehicles.

Since the Day 1 change to loot you can buy heroes and villains at decently affordable prices now. Just playing and completing challenges will get you the most expensive character after just a few hours of multiplayer. However, getting all the perks of each character is luck of the loot crate draw. The only thing I don't like about this system is that you can't upgrade your cards using crafting parts until you get a ton of cards for that particular character. This will take a while and it makes you choose between opening crates and unlocking heroes or villains for the first dozen hours or so, which stinks.

Overall though the multiplayer modes are a lot of fun, which is where the bread and butter is for this game. Arcade is also great and I LOVE that there's split screen capabilities. Just having a lightsaber battle with your buddy sitting on the couch next to you is worth trying this game. It hard to argue against the gameplay and the diversity of multiplayer modes.

Full of bugs, now that the microtransactions are gone there is no way to progress in the game, shows how fundamental the lootboxes are to unlock anything. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY LIKE I DID!

Solid game (albeit, very similar to every other DICE game you have ever played)... but I don't care. How long are gamers going to let huge companies like EA and Activision screw them over? Hopefully this games current user score is an indication of how fed up people with a shred of self-control are with regards to MTs. Please don't buy this game.

I am not a giant **** with a wallet stapled to it. You have completely lost touch with your customers. I will not support any paid game with loot crates other than cosmetic.

Get a grip EA. You and WB games can both go down in flames.

This game is absolute trash, why do you have a standardized mobile game system in a 60-80 dollar game? Its a AAA title for **** The campaign is okay, and the multiplyplayer and progression system is 100% tied around the loot-crate system so as long as you pay -> You Win!

Excellent online action offers hours of Stormtooper-shooting fun, but the so-so campaign stumbles, while cynical loot crates leave a sour taste. [Jan 2017, p.83]

Star Wars Battlefront II provides a greater ambition than the previous installment. It has powerful war scenes, a brand new single player mode, and shows a much more magnificent Star Wars Universe. But just like the Jedi should be ware of the dark side of the Force, this game also meets some similar situations, such as beleaguered microtransaction elements and character growth problems. The first 10 hours of this game is full of surprises; however, the further you play this game, the more disappointed you will get.

Although game has huge problems with p2w microtransactions, it is still a good and fun gameplay experience with stunning visuals.
