    By no means is this a perfect platformer, but it is perhaps one of the best out there on the market even four years later. Good introduction if you're trying to get your child into gaming while also providing plenty of challenge for seasoned vets on the higher difficulty settings.     I really can't say a bad thing about this game, it's so good.

    The gameplay is really fun to play, it felt so fluid and enjoyable. Ratchet doesn't just have is wrench but a whole arsenal of weaponry with each being different from the other. There is literally a grenade that makes every enemy dance, and it's hilarious throwing it at the bosses. There is even a trophy to make every enemy    I really can't say a bad thing about this game, it's so good.

    The gameplay is really fun to play, it felt so fluid and enjoyable. Ratchet doesn't just have is wrench but a whole arsenal of weaponry with each being different from the other. There is literally a grenade that makes every enemy dance, and it's hilarious throwing it at the bosses. There is even a trophy to make every enemy dance, maybe I should attempt it. Every weapon is so much fun that I end up using nearly all of them in every battle, and there are a lot of weapons to choose from. The guns can then be upgraded and it's a really cool system. Upgrade them enough and they will receive upgrades like being able to shoot more than one bullet type at once etc. Apart from weapons there are a lot of other gameplay mechanics that make it just fun to move around, You can jetpack around, use a hoverboard or even grind a rail. When shooting it's also important to make sure you're dodging every bullet you can, and Ratchet looks great while doing so. Double tap cross and Ratchet will be doing somersaults over the bullets while you keep your eye on the enemy. The enemies are all really cool and unique in their own way. Some guns are better for specific enemies so the game is always making you swap out your gun for another, which purposely makes it fluid and fun.

    The story was very interesting with it tying in with the movie. To tie with the film the game feels like you're inside an animated film controlling the characters. Honestly, I didn't think I'd enjoy this but it's actually really interesting. The characters are really interesting and the great animation makes them feel so real. Ratchet and Clank are probably now my favourite duo, with me relating to Clank so much. They're both really enjoyable to be with and I can't wait to go on another adventure with them. The next game isn't going to have an animated film so I'm interested how they approach it, hopefully they keep the really good animated cutscenes.

    The graphics were so beautiful and stunning, that everywhere you look it makes you take a breath. Every world you visit has something going on everywhere and makes it feel so lively. Even playing on a base PS4 everything looked really good, and I can't wait to see it all on PS5 with the next game including ray tracing. You wouldn't think a game like this could look so beautiful but it really is. Every world you visit is different to the other and all of them are so fun to explore because of the beauty.

    To conclude, this is a must play game that you can't miss. Right now it's going really cheap so you have no excuse to not play it. I can't wait to play the new game, just need to get a PS5 from the depths of the universe.    … Expand

    Boring game that was made for children. The characters don't have any soul, the combat is bad and every time I was into a puzzle I just wanted this game to end already. I am not a fan of the genere so maybe that's why I find this game so boring. I was wishing to end this to play another title.

    La jugabilidad no es mala, pero en ningún momento sorprende. Incluso llega a aburrir, no por ser monótono, sino porque la monotonía consiste en disparar non-stop sin apenas prestar atención. La variedad de armas puede ser mas o menos amplia, pero de poco sirve al no ser necesario esforzarse o concentrarse para hacer spam de R2. Toda la partida es caótica, en el mal sentido.
    Los enemigos son repetitivos, las zonas o áreas son cortas y lineales, y las pocas partes en que controlamos una nave son insoportables.

    Tiene un gran sentido del humor, que nunca se siente forzado ni innecesario. Pero no ayuda a soportar la aburridísima trama que presenta.
    Lo "bueno" es que es muy corto...

    GRÁFICOS:
    Comúnmente, en los videojuegos podemos afirmar que las cinemáticas suelen ser gráficamente superiores a las escenas in-game. Aquí es al revés: Visualmente fascinante en el juego; cinemáticas poco interesantes.
    Tiene un estilo típico de película de animación, colores esplendidos y zonas muy vistosas. Si las áreas fuesen más amplias hubiese sido mas interesante, pero como ya mencioné, es mas bien lineal.

    SONIDO:
    También se queda corto, mucho caos y pocas cosas destacables. No tengo mucho que decir, puesto que no ha mucho de lo qué hablar. Eso sí, el trabajo de doblaje es destacable y pocos juegos pueden presumir de ello.

    INNOVACIÓN:
    Claramente inspirado en clásicos Spyro, y claramente inferior en todo lo que podría serlo. Además de ser un remake, por lo que no es un titulo que pretenda innovar en absoluto.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I'm going to start by saying that the first R&C trilogy and Ratchet: Deadlocked was my childhood, and I love those games so much. So when this game was announced back in 2016 I was pretty hyped. A reinterpretation of one of my favorite games of all time the original Ratchet & Clank that came out back in 2002. However when I sat down to actually play the game I was really disappointed. I'm going to start with the good parts of the game and then make my way to what the game does poorly. Graphics and gameplay deserve real high praise, the way they made some planets from the original feel so much more alive was really cool, for example Kerwan and Rilgar. The gameplay in some parts are really nice, however level design on all the new planets feel really poor and lazy. The level design on planets like Aridia, Kerwan, Rilgar and more are really good, but when we move into different territory, like when they remade the level design of the planet Quartu, it's just a barrage of enemies with no clever design. The story of this game is not good at all, and even though I like the premise, it just falls flat, the jokes don't land the characters of Ratchet and Clank are done so dirty and just found the game just didn't feel right. One of the worst things that is featured in this game are the remakes of the classic scenes from the original, where Ratchet and Clank are talking to a person on a planet. In the original the cutscenes are so animated and just feel so alive and fun, however in this version they are so dead, Ratchet and Clank hardly speak or look at each other and we're supposed to believe these guys become best friends? I don't. A lot of people like to make the argument that this game is made for kids and that's why the jokes don't work or the story, but the original is a game that is kid friendly but the jokes often land, and the story is fun and compelling. The soundtrack is absolutely awful, and is actually an insult to the originals amazing soundtrack that would fit every planet so well, however in this game it's just some generic movie soundtrack that is so forgettable. To sum up this review, Ratchet and Clank 2016 is a lazy, forgettable mess that serves no justice to the characters that we knew and loved from the original trilogy and even the future series. The only good things about the game are graphics and the gameplay, with some good game design but I don't think it counts since it's from the original. All new game design is lazy and boring and a terrible soundtrack accompanies the mess that we play through. I rate this game a 5/10 and to be honest that is being generous, because I know Insomniac Games can make good and compelling games, they did it 2 years later with Marvel's Spider-Man, so here's hoping that the next Ratchet & Clank game they make will be good.

    I truly question if the people that loved this remake played or actually properly remember the original game . The story has lost all of it's edge , humor and character development . some planets and weapons are missing and the boss fights aren't nearly as enjoyable or hard which leads me to the overall lack of challenge this game has compared to the original ..

    My first ratchet & clank game and all i could say is that i love it. I regret not playing the PS2 and PS3 ones back in the day.

    The game is just fun. The equivalent of Hack & Slash but with guns.

    It is funny also, entertainment for all ages.

    Just buy it on sale, totally worth it

    The key adjetive here is FUN! it doesn't matter if you're new to the series or a newcomer (such as myself), the gameplay has a bit of a retro feel that brings a little nostalgia to us older players, but it's still fresh and entertaining all the way. If you want a quick funny and entertaing time with your PS4, this is your game.

    Always love a good Ratchet and Clank game! One thing I always hated about these games though is when you play as Clank. His sections of the game (exxceot for a Crack in Time) always bore me. But still a great game and a great reboot!

    Ratchet & Clank is a short, action packed title that's good fun while it lasts. The combat is really enjoyable because of all the different unlockable and upgradeable weapons, from the Groovitron that makes enemies dance to the extremely overpowered RYNO that shreds any enemy in no time at all. There's even a weapon that transforms an enemies into sheep, aptly called the Sheepinator. IRatchet & Clank is a short, action packed title that's good fun while it lasts. The combat is really enjoyable because of all the different unlockable and upgradeable weapons, from the Groovitron that makes enemies dance to the extremely overpowered RYNO that shreds any enemy in no time at all. There's even a weapon that transforms an enemies into sheep, aptly called the Sheepinator. I enjoyed my time with the game because most of it was spent shooting, and the shooting in Ratchet & Clank is good fun.

    There's also some very light puzzle solving through the game, including a few sections where you play as Clank, and some optional collectibles to find if you're into that. The rewards for getting the gold bolts are kinda lacklustre though. There's a couple of hoverboard races and ship sections thrown in too, which help serve up some variety. In a game this short there's no time to get bored of the combat anyway but these different gameplay sections are nice asides.

    Ratchet & Clank is a colourful and polished looking title, and it includes cutscenes ripped straight from the movie which do look great. You can tell which came from the movie and which were made just for the game but I suppose that was inevitable. The many planets and environments are distinct, vibrant and well detailed, and they're all densely packed with enemies. There is some pretty strong motion blur in the game which can't be turned off, but I didn't mind it.

    One aspect where Ratchet & Clank definitely falls flat is in its story and characters. There's just no character progression at all for anyone really. There's no depth to any of the characters, and some, such as the members of the Galactic Rangers, are just barely present after being introduced. I liked Captain Qwark's voice actor and some of his lines are humourous. Overall though, the story just feels so disconnected to what you're playing - it takes a backseat and really fades into the background. You can see where developing the game and movie in conjunction with one another may have hurt things. Even despite having to be a movie tie in though, the writing still isn't very good and the story is very basic.

    The final boss was also way too easy. I had just picked up the RYNO before fighting him which made the fight trivial. At the very least it was a good demonstration of the RYNO's power and of why you couldn't have got it any earlier in the game.

    I finished Ratchet & Clank in just a couple days, and although there is a Challenge Mode, it's just a new game plus mode really. It does allow you to further upgrade your weapons though which is good, as they can get ridiculously powerful here. I could go back and finish Challenge Mode and maybe go for the platinum trophy, but for now I'm done with Ratchet & Clank. The collectibles don't seem worth trying to find and other than stronger weapons and a bolt (currency) multiplier, Challenge Mode doesn't have much to add.

    It is a short game but that's not really an issue. The problem is that as the story is so minimal, the game flies by without giving you anything to absorb or think about. The conclusion is quite rushed too which only adds to the sense that the game doesn't succeed in telling a complete story. A final factor adding to this lack of resolution is that the characters don't undergo any development, so again it's just like the game doesn't go through a natural progression and it ends before it feels like it should.

    Overall though, I really enjoyed Ratchet & Clank. I like it's simple mission structure and satisfying core gameplay loop of killing enemies and destroying boxes for bolts to spend on new weapons. Unlocking new weapons and upgrading existing ones is at the forefront of the gameplay and keeps things fun. It's a gameplay loop I liked as a kid playing on the PSP and it's one that I still find compelling. I wish Ratchet & Clank made more of an impact on me and had more cohesive storytelling, but this is still a good game. So, despite its shortcomings, I give Ratchet & Clank a 7/10.    … Expand

    The game is wonderful. Good storyline, design, controls, variety of weapons, and most importantly, passing the game you get a lot of fun. Playing this game is very hard to come off, the gameplay is so addictive.

    Ratchet & Clank PS4 is certainly not a replacement for Ratchet & Clank PS2, despite a few quality of life updates that do improve it over the original. While this is indeed a great game, as remake/re-telling of Ratchet & Clank PS2 game, it stumbles enough to not reach its full potential.

In original game the characters were flexible and and were rich in detail, but in r&c 2016 it's just laughter in the room.     Visually, the game looks like you’re playing a Pixar movie—fantastic. The music is good superhero stuff, it doesn’t get in the way, and that’s all it needs to do. The story is pretty simple and really predictable, but that’s also how the originals were, so there’s no surprise there. I appreciated the funny bits, and there were lots of interesting personalities that I enjoyed, like Mr.Visually, the game looks like you’re playing a Pixar movie—fantastic. The music is good superhero stuff, it doesn’t get in the way, and that’s all it needs to do. The story is pretty simple and really predictable, but that’s also how the originals were, so there’s no surprise there. I appreciated the funny bits, and there were lots of interesting personalities that I enjoyed, like Mr. Zurkon popping up and declaring ‘Death is too stupid for Mr. Zurkon.’ Wellll........if you say so, then I suppose you’re right, sir. Since you’re on my team, you get a pass.

    Where the game really shines is the guns. The guns are really, really fun to use, and they upgrade quickly, without any tedious level grinding. It’s a great, cartoon-ish third-person action game where you can make entire screens of enemies explode all at the same time, and it just feels wonderful.

    But I did deduct a point because the story was a little too predictable. If it had kept the funny writing and had something that was more surprising or interesting in the plot, it would have been a 10, but once I reached the end of the game and found that Challenge Mode was basically just a New Game + with the same story, I decided to move on.

    Still, a great game, and one I recommend.    … Expand

    Negatives :- TOO MUCH CUT CONTENT just so this game could fit with the useless movie
    -the game is running at 30 FPS.

    I've had this game for so long and I never played it. Eventually played the game during lockdown and I had a blast. Fun gameplay, challenging enough and very lighthearted story. A surprised hit for me.

    Negatives- The biggest problem this game suffers from is having to use the Movie's new plot which lacks tremendously compared to the original game. Old characters have changed completely and have lost all the charm they had original (and some characters are gone completely) . Ratchet and Clank for one barely talk to each-other in this version and most of their dialogue has turned very bland and boring conversations. Some worlds are missing or are combined in ways that just feels rushed for the story to just get done faster. There really isn't any character arcs at all in this game as Ratchet and Clank remain the same throughout and follow the normal hero tropes we all know about. The one exception is Captain Quark who does get some but at the cost of making his motivations not making since at all throughout this new story.

    Personal nitpicks- For some reason developers also decided not to use the original soundtrack or a remixed version of it and that is a huge missed opportunity. This also goes for not bringing updated versions of older weapons which would have been nice to have and upgrade which was something that couldn't be done in the original game.

    Overall while this game does not give justice to it source material it is pretty fun to go through and I hope it convince more people to play the original games.    … Expand

    A los juegos de Ratchet & Clank no se le piden que sean obras maestras. Se le piden que sean súper divertidos. Y este lo consigue, como el resto de la saga. Siendo una reimaginación del primer juego de la saga debido al lanzamiento de la película está un nivel muy alto. Volver a visitar los planetas del juego original es un lujazo y más a ese nivel gráfico. En cuanto a la cantidad de armasA los juegos de Ratchet & Clank no se le piden que sean obras maestras.     Graphics are great. But the gameplay is very repetitive and found myself just rushing through the game as found it a bit boring. Probably would of liked it if I was 8. Was free so gave it a try but won’t be in a rush to play the next one.

    It's oldschool and basic in gameplay, with no surprises in store for the player. If you've played a few 3d platformer games, you've already seen what's in Ratchet & Clank. Not too creative or bold. Ultimately, it offers the basics of what you could expect, but without surprises or special moments.

    So what’s the horrible flaw, the wrench in the gear? That’s Ratchet himself. The biggest flaw with this game is Ratchet’s characterization. While this may seem petty, I cannot understate how much this marred my experience.
    This new Ratchet seems like he was written to be palatable to three year olds. He is friendly and good natured…but otherwise completely flat. What really gets me, he never expresses any significant fear or frustration, which can really kill the sense of visceral excitement the game otherwise generates. When I am fighting for my life against hordes of blarg, with only 20% health, and hear my gun click, the perfect thing to kill the mood is hearing Ratchet say a very non-chalant “Oh boy, out of ammo!”
    If Ratchet were an experienced super-hero, this subdued attitude might have worked, but as it is, it totally kills the sense of desperation I feel as a rookie hero blasting through an army of Blarg against the odds.    … Expand

This is basically a reboot of the series and they realize that with them frequently making jokes saying “see you in the next reboot”. My only issue is there was really no need for a reboot because the series didn’t have a convoluted story or wasn’t getting tiresome like Resident Evil. I see these games sort of like Final Fantasy; except the series is based on two characters. The stories don’t really interject at all they could’ve just done a new adventure.

    ​The story is another origin story. Ratchet wants to be a Galactic Ranger, and Clank is a run-away faulty war bot. These two team up for a reason I’m not a 100% why, but they do and end up joining the Galactic Rangers. They must stop Dr. Nefarious from destroying planets with his planet harvesting weapon. It has no surprise twist this is a very fun light hearted story that just leaves you feeling like a kid afterwards. The story has an interesting twist with the whole thing being narrated by Captain Quark who is in prison for reasons that are obvious, but I’ll refrain from saying. He is such a great character and occasionally if you are dicking around he will mention how Ratchet hated boxes with a fiery passion. If you want to see the movie I’d suggest seeing it before you play the game because this game to my knowledge follows the exact plot of the movie. Just with less talking and more ass kicking.

    The game looks beautiful and the characters all looks as they do except one. Dr. Nefarious isn’t half as cool as he looked in the original games. Instead of being some robot brain alien thing he is just an alien. This is a minor complaint it just didn’t make sense to keep everyone the same except him. Yet I don’t remember what he looked like in the original Ratchet and Clank so this may be spot on.

    The gameplay is something I missed and never thought I missed. 3D platformers are such a thing of the past and that is a damn shame. This game brought back the nostalgia of Ratchet and Clank while keeping it updated for this generation. What I mean is in the original you had to have so many bolts to continue. This means you have to go back to each map and be the bolt master. (Poor Pokémon joke) In this version you don’t need to do that at all and the maps are so linear you can easily 100% the game. The game is way easier than the original as well. The enemies are easier, and you can take more hits if you die. They introduce different mechanics as well. We get a stealth mission, some poor squirrelly flying sections and new funny deadly weapons. The weapons are amazing mixing old fan favorites with new bizarre ones. My fan favorite was Mr. Zurkon who is helpful against small enemies and talks **** the whole time. A new awesome one is this big ball that has an area attack that if leveled up is **** powerful. The gameplay has a very light RPG element and not violent at all so it is great for kids. The game is only 7-8 hours long with one mechanic I never understood with that being the trading cards they’ve added. They are supposed to give you a boost, but I never noticed nor did I care if I collected a whole set.

    Overall the game is fun to play with a funny light hearted story. With this coming out at the same time as Dark Souls 3 it is nice to have a relaxing game to just wipe away all frustrations. If you have kids I say buy this game for them and watch them melt away hours. If you are a fan of the series this game holds up super well and will give you nostalgia kick like no other so buy. Last if you never played a Ratchet and Clank game I recommend that you rent this. If you end up liking it this is a short enough game to blow through a weekend and have a wonderful weekend doing it. I give this game a 4.5 out of 5. I take off of the flying, dumb ass card collecting and the fact they changed one character into a less cool version of the original.    … Expand

    Surprisingly cinematic; i enjoyed it but one of the bosses near the end got me stuck. The puzzles were okay and the overall game was very charming. Voice acting were great too. The first few hours of the game were the greatest- not sure how it ends though.

    Quite an enjoyable game, not very demanding and a good platformer overall - perfect for when you get back from work and want to play something positive and relaxing.
    What I didn't like though was missable collectibles & trophies - I always go for finishing the game 100% and enjoy finding all the treasures and stuff.     Ratchet and Clank is a culmination of everything Insomniac has done with the series over the past 14 years. It takes the characters that we fell in love with long ago, and sets them off on their most gorgeous quest yet. The deep and rewarding weapon system, beautiful and varied worlds, and charming-as-heck story make it an adventure that anyone with a PlayStation 4 should strap in for.

    When I started playing the game I felt a little bored, as I had played similar games before. My emotions dramatically changed, however, by giving it some time. Eventually, I comprehended why this game is different from others; the story is one of the funniest and well-written of such games and the gameplay is always enjoyable and fun to play.     This game would deserve an 8 or 9. It's a good game with good graphics and gameplay. My only complaints: There's lots of cinematic at the begining but it would have been better to put some more along the game and in the end; also, it could have been a little bit longer (it took me about 12-13 hours or so).     Ratchet & Clank looks and plays as well as it ever has. Fans will enjoy the nostalgic journey through familiar planets, while newcomers will appreciate the chaotic and creative weaponry. But for the ninth game in a franchise that built its name on unique weapons, it’s a shame that the arsenal just coasts on fan-favorites. Insomniac played it safe.

    Insomniac Games did not just remake this classic platformer. They boldly bombarded it with ideas and then rebuilt it pixel by pixel using methods unknown 13 years ago. The result is magnificent. [06/2016, p.50]
