This game runs in a shamelessly 30 Fps while having less planets, content, horrible writing, horrible story, and fun, I feel like insomniac forgot how to make a good game.
    Examples are:
Cringeworthy dialogue that you will hear repeatedly and just bare lines like "The bigger they are the harder they fall"
Some cutscenes are stripped from the movie and some cutscenes looks like gmod gone wrong, there is no "life" or "magic" in this game
Some cutscenes sometimes take 5 secs, loads, then 1 sec cutscene, then load, then actual gameplay
The Story is everything you will think what will happen, no real plot twist...
They never really execute the story in the game, they just summarized it
You can barley hear some of the voice actors when they are talking!!!
Gameplay is mostly fine, it's basically takes the newer games gameplay such as upgrading weapons and health bar by killing enemies,

This game is the definition of play it safe and give me money game.
If you want to play Ratchet and Clank. Play the ps2 version as it has a better and serious story, Better character development, good sense of adventure, ALOT more content and it's probably cheaper too.

I have to say I was disappointed with this game. The visuals were amazing, as was the selection of guns and the gunplay, however the sense of adventure was lost, as was the humour and the story. The first game's plot had so much more to it; actual conflict between characters that disliked each other, genuine, believable motives for Quark to be a villain, and, well, what else is there really to say about the neutering of Drek as the antagonist?

A lot of the little touches have been lost this time around, with animation looking either weirdly too good as it's been cut straight from the film (this also makes the narrative so thin) or looking downright awful, with motionless sprites that stand there barely moving their mouths delivering dialogue. It's embarrassing. Honestly, go look at the cutscenes from the Ps2 game, the animation is SO much better and with worse technology, it's really bewildering. The little quirks that helped to build the world in the last game aren't there, replaced by lifeless areas that certainly don't give the impression they are real, inhabited places.

You felt as if you were always improving in the first game. Sure, here you arbitrarily level up your gun to get better damage/ammo whatever, but in the old game it was so much more. You'd attain the jet pack, allowing you to go back and access more areas, as with the gas mask, allowing ratchet to go outside in space and gas-filled areas like he couldn't before. This was the same when you got the grav-boots, rail-boots etc., the progression felt so good and gave meaningful reason to go back to older planets.

The characters of Clank and Ratchet are simply boring now, they pander to a REALLY young audience and their relationship has no arc. They meet and, oh, instant best friends.

This game lacks magic. It's obviously still very impressive gameplay wise given that it takes the Ratchet formula, and the Clank sections are certainly better than before, however it doesn't have anything truly memorable about it. Very disappointing, but maybe because it was only 25 quid off the bat they didn't have the budget for better cutscenes etc so they had to take from them from the movie? Who knows. It's an alright game, but in no way does it touch the brilliance of the original trilogy.

One last thing Insomniac: Why tack on jokes about social media? No one will ever laugh when you talk about 'the kids' loving 'the social medias'. No one. EVER.

As a long-time fan of the franchise, I was really hyped about this game. Too bad it's so disappointing... It starts off good enough. The controls are as tight as ever and there were some minor tweaks that make pulling off certain moves much easier. TheAs a long-time fan of the franchise, I was really hyped about this game. The controls are as tight as ever and there were some minor tweaks that make pulling off certain moves much easier. The animation is fluid and lively and Ratchet feels much more energetic than he did in the previous games. Revisiting familiar areas, now in shiny HD, is fun.

Unfortunately the game starts to fall apart really fast. Even on the Hard difficulty, it's very easy. In the old games, checkpoints were far and apart and if you died, it was back to the beginning with all enemies respawned. In this game, checkpoints are everywhere. Sure, you can argue it is a kids game - but so were the previous ones and they still offered decent level of challenge. The hacking Trespasser minigame is entirely optional this time around and you have the ability to skip it, even on Hard. "Hurr, just don't skip it," you might say. The option shouldn't be there to begin with. Besides, if you're trying to solve the puzzles and you take a long time, Clank will start nagging you that maybe you should skip it. Yes, it happens on Hard, too. The original Ratchet & Clank didn't need this, why does the reboot? Are they trying to say that kids today are dumber than those in 2002?

There are glitches, too, particularly in the racing sections. Several times I used a boost pad to jump in the air, and despite me landing exactly in the middle of the race track, the game registered it as falling off track and respawned me a few metres back, making me lose the race.

The absolute worst thing about this game are the NPCs. They never. EVER. Shut. The. Hell. Up. Ever! This is what made the dreaded Sonic Boom such a laughing stock, so why on earth did Insomniac think this was a good idea? If you want to go exploring a bit before you progress any further, one of the NPCs that accompany you now and then will keep nagging you until you do what they want. "Hurry up and open this door! Come on, Ratchet, lower the bridge. I need to get to the other side!" Are you serious? It doesn't stop there, though, oh no. If you come to a dead end and take a while to run around, either because you can't immediately see the exit or because you're hunting for hidden goodies, NPCs (and sometimes Ratchet/Clank themselves) will tell you what to do. "Maybe there's a Trespasser console around. Maybe the magnet can help me. If I build the bridges in a specific order, I'll get all the bots in the same place." You can't even turn these garbage hints off without muting all dialogues and missing out on some potentially funny banter. Just screw you, Insomniac. Making a kids game is one thing, insulting your players' intelligence another. I don't expect Bloodborne-levels of difficulty but this is a joke. Free exploration and puzzle solving were an important part of the old games. Now you're just held by your hand and told where to go, what to do, and if you can't be bothered with puzzles, you can just skip them. It reeks of laziness and disrespect.

The constant use of movie clips also comes across as incredibly lazy. Yes, I know it's a movie tie-in, and yes, I'm very much looking forward to the movie and I'll go see it as soon as it comes out. That doesn't mean I want to see half of the movie in this fragmented state before it's even released. One of the blurbs on the cover says that you should "prepare to be blown away by an adventure that looks just as good as the big-screen movie itself", which is a blatant lie. The movie clips have perfect lip sync while the in-game characters just kinda flap their mouth and make an attempt at a facial expression every now and then. The Future trilogy (counting Nexus too) had better facial animation than this game - and that was on PS3. It's painfully clear that the main focus was on the movie and its advertisement, and the game (you know, the medium that started it all and is revered by millions) is just an afterthought.

I wouldn't be this incredibly pissed off if I wasn't a big fan of the series. I've played every R&C game (minus the multiplayer ones), I own multiple copies of the original trilogy, and it really hurts to see something I hold dear butchered like this. Fanboys everywhere will lap it up and give it a perfect 10/10 regardless, so Insomniac can be proud. I just hope this is a one-time thing, not a start of a new dumbed-down series.

If you're a die-hard fan, you'll get it anyway. If you're new to the franchise, you might as well get it too. It's hard not to recommend it because technically it's competent and there IS some fun to be had, even if it's painfully short. Just prepare to feel like a complete idiot while you play this - which actually should be the game's tag line.

One specific time was when Ratchet helped Quark climb up a ledge after a boss battle. I said "wut? k.." because there was no explanation for when or how he got down there so it just felt really non sequitur. It seemed like some of the cutscenes were just removed and they never went back to edit the ones they kept to fit together.

There was also a really frustrating bug during a part of the game where you have to stop the baddies from pressing a big red button that kills you instantly. I was using the Groovitron to interrupt them from pressing the button, but that only worked like 7/10 times. A few times I was looking right at the button. Nobody pressed it, but I still died instantly.

Two of the Playstation brand's most celebrated mascots, Ratchet & Clank arrived on PS4 in this remake of their original PS2 title. Having never played the series, and being a fan of 3D platformers, this was a game I eagerly anticipated. What I found out is that the series (or, at least, this particular game) lacks many of the things that made me love the genre in the first place.

As the game opens, Ratchet is a mechanic apprentice lombax who lives on a peaceful planet but dreams of going in adventures and becoming a hero. One day, has a fateful encounter with Clank, an escaped robot from a grim warbot factory in another planet. Clank wants to stop the evil Chairman Drek from destroying planets with his newest weapon, the deplanetizer, and so the duo embark on an adventure to warn the Galactic Rangers. Yes, it's all very derivative of Star Wars, which is a real bummer when one considers the endless possibilities for a cartoonesque space opera universe.

The titular duo's gameplay partnership is reminiscent of one of the genre's pinnacles: Banjo-Kazooie. Ratchet walks, jumps, and attacks enemies, while Clank, affixed on the lombax's back, aids the gameplay with special movements such as shortly hovering in mid-air. That's where the similarities with Banjo stop, however, as R&C features linear, story-driven progression instead of the more open-ended format seen on Rare's classic series.

Collectibles are present, although the linear story-driven nature of the game hardly compelled me to go out of my way to find them. The most important items are the many wacky guns and weapons you can acquire, which help Ratchet defeat enemies in a variety of ways. They're fun to use, but the lack of a Metroidvania-like push for backtracking feels like a wasted opportunity.

It should be said that the game's performance and production values are stellar. Graphics are crisp and colorful, while movement is extremely fluid. The music is at odds with this, as Ratchet & Clank's soundtrack eschews catchy tunes for generic orchestrated action themes, usually seen on big-budget animation movies.

Sadly, the music isn't the only time the game shows its obsession with being a big-budget animation movie, which is generally to its great detriment. The strict adherence to a script brings forth problems such as the aforementioned linearity, which is frustrating in an universe full of potential like this one. Characters also constantly banter on screen, spewing out tired quips and ho-hum jokes. This is bad by itself, but gets aggravating fast in more difficult sessions, since you'll have to listen to every single line again after each time you die.

The game can certainly be fun, however. Like I said, weapons are a highlight, and there are several action-heavy sequences that can be exhillarating. What is missing is a way to just sit back and explore after each of those sequences, or at least meaningful reasons to do so. As is, Ratchet & Clank ends up feeling like a mere tie-in to their first movie, which was released concurrently, or a warm-up for young players before they get into other franchises in the genre with deeper, better-designed gameplay.

    TL;DR:
I think the main problem with Ratchet & Clank is not that it lacks ambition, but that its ambition is woefully misdirected. Instead of wanting players to discover and explore its admittedly alluring universe, it wants to strictly guide them through a mediocre movie plotline. I mean, they released an actual animated movie alongside the game, so why not try more of a focus on open-ended exploration here instead?

What happened? Ratchet and Clank is my favorite video game series, sitting through trying to play this game was misery. The story was painfully bland, the music didn't live up to the original's, the gameplay was fine but not as fun as any other Ratchet and Clank game. Reboots, or "reimaginings" are never as good as the original, and they should've just continued the series from where it left off.

Ratchet & Clank (2016) was very disappointing. I'm not saying I didn't like the game sure I did, it was fun to play. To bring it to newcomers, it re imagines the story of the first game that was released in 2002. Long term fans overall felt disappointed, the gameplay was good but story-wise, that's where it lacked.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a big fan on R&C for many years,I had big hopes for this game.

And it's alright. And I don't have many issues, the biggest ones are the story and writing.
So, first the negatives, you know what the positives are.

Graphics are amazing and astonishing, performance is good, gameplay is good and it feels like a remake like it was marketed. Even though there aren't new weapons for someone like me who has played all the games, old ones are still good, there are weapons from the first game to the newest, all "remastered". The upgrade system is familiar to us old players, weapons get stronger the more you use it and raritanium is used to upgrade them. That is another good thing. Holo-Cards are fun thing to see all this old characters and weapons from the earlier games and there are good easter eggs to find. For those alone, I'd give it a 9/10.

What tears the game down is the story. For the newcomers it might be good, even great, but for me, I can't help it but to compare it to the original. And when I do, it has issues.

New characters are bland and boring. Aside from Qwark, who is his usual self, the new galactic rangers are just dull. I can't remember them and they don't add anything to the story. The only reason they are just so the Sony can hire big-league actors to play them in the movie. And the idea of Ratchet joining the Galactic Rangers just doesn't work. It takes the growth of Ratchet's character that he had in the first game.

In the first game, Ratchet went from selfish-guy-who-had-good-intentions-but-was-mostly-an-entertaining a-hole to a hero-in-the-making. He grows during the story with Clank's help and you can see how their friendship begins. And it's a rocky one. They bash heads and argue a lot but in the end they start to care each other. And that's why their friendship is something special, it's not just a dude wanting to help a robot and then suddenly becoming best friends.

Here, Ratchet doesn't grow. He goes to almost-hero to a hero. And Clank feels just bland. Too childish, he had more character in the first game. It doesn't feel like they just met like it did in the original. Their friendship grows too fast or doesn't have enough screentime. It doesn't feel right. Ratchet is also too boyscout if you can say that. Not the more realistic one who kicks ass and knows everything won't always be okay. Clank is just meh. And I used to love him. Sigh.

Drek is just bad. He is reduced to a joke. Where is this nefarious Drek that we all enjoyed in the first game? Instead we have pre-robot Nefarious who is just now a madman who destroys everything. Where is the world conquering? Changing time so "bad guys" never lose. And he doesn't have his hatred for Qwark or it's not showed.

Qwark is Qwark. Having him as a narrator is a good thing but he flipflops right before the end because he sees the "error of his ways." But it's not believable. Why he joined with Drek in the first place? Who knows. In the original, it was for personal glory. Here? I guess it's the same reason...?

And the writing isn't as funny as it was back in the good-old-days. And if I have other issues, planets don't have so much variety they had in the first game. One planet Ratchet couldn't explore without 02 mask due to it being toxic, so Clank explored it first. The other had lighting storms all the time that hid Clank so Ratchet had to go alone. Those things made the planets feel different and more memorable. It's not a huge nitpick, but something I have.

    In summary:

    +Amazing graphics.
    +Gameplay good as ever
    +Enough challenge
+New weapons are good and old ones still shine
    +Not too short, but...

-The original one was longer and was harder
    -Planets lack variety
-New characters are dull and don't add anything to the story
-Story feels like elements from the first trilogy were combined so that it would become the ultimate package. It's not.
-Ratchet & Clank aren't so good anymore and their characters are now too kid-friendly
-Writing isn't what is used to be

Still I score this game favourably especially because of 2 excellent boss fights and the effort the developers put into variety, level design, and minimal bugs that were in the game. I'm an older gamer and usually play the likes of dark souls, witcher, etc... This game feels like a perfect fit for the younger gamer. Well made and challenging enough for a certain age group.

FANTASTIC game - it is so refreshing to see an "E" rated game that is so well polished and fun to play! This is on par with Nintendo and Pixar - well done, we need more of this on Sony and Xbox platforms! 10/10

Visually, the game is stunning in it's transition into two console generations, compared to the original the PS2 version seems like eating hardtack, in comparison.

Overall, this was fun to play as before, but for me, it just seemed TOO EASY, short and lacked the Colosseum. Which has always been a favorite part of mine.

Although, I was a tad in the length, it was still the same old Rachet and Clank I love to play, I'd say its worth picking it up for 20 bucks, but no more than that.

Ratchet & Clank is a short, action packed title that's good fun while it lasts. The combat is really enjoyable because of all the different unlockable and upgradeable weapons, from the Groovitron that makes enemies dance to the extremely overpowered RYNO that shreds any enemy in no time at all. There's even a weapon that transforms an enemies into sheep, aptly called the Sheepinator. IRatchet & Clank is a short, action packed title that's good fun while it lasts. I enjoyed my time with the game because most of it was spent shooting, and the shooting in Ratchet & Clank is good fun.

There's also some very light puzzle solving through the game, including a few sections where you play as Clank, and some optional collectibles to find if you're into that. The rewards for getting the gold bolts are kinda lacklustre though. There's a couple of hoverboard races and ship sections thrown in too, which help serve up some variety. In a game this short there's no time to get bored of the combat anyway but these different gameplay sections are nice asides.

Ratchet & Clank is a colourful and polished looking title, and it includes cutscenes ripped straight from the movie which do look great. You can tell which came from the movie and which were made just for the game but I suppose that was inevitable. The many planets and environments are distinct, vibrant and well detailed, and they're all densely packed with enemies. There is some pretty strong motion blur in the game which can't be turned off, but I didn't mind it.

One aspect where Ratchet & Clank definitely falls flat is in its story and characters. There's just no character progression at all for anyone really. There's no depth to any of the characters, and some, such as the members of the Galactic Rangers, are just barely present after being introduced. I liked Captain Qwark's voice actor and some of his lines are humourous. Overall though, the story just feels so disconnected to what you're playing - it takes a backseat and really fades into the background. You can see where developing the game and movie in conjunction with one another may have hurt things. Even despite having to be a movie tie in though, the writing still isn't very good and the story is very basic.

The final boss was also way too easy. I had just picked up the RYNO before fighting him which made the fight trivial. At the very least it was a good demonstration of the RYNO's power and of why you couldn't have got it any earlier in the game.

I finished Ratchet & Clank in just a couple days, and although there is a Challenge Mode, it's just a new game plus mode really. It does allow you to further upgrade your weapons though which is good, as they can get ridiculously powerful here. I could go back and finish Challenge Mode and maybe go for the platinum trophy, but for now I'm done with Ratchet & Clank. The collectibles don't seem worth trying to find and other than stronger weapons and a bolt (currency) multiplier, Challenge Mode doesn't have much to add.

It is a short game but that's not really an issue. The problem is that as the story is so minimal, the game flies by without giving you anything to absorb or think about. The conclusion is quite rushed too which only adds to the sense that the game doesn't succeed in telling a complete story. A final factor adding to this lack of resolution is that the characters don't undergo any development, so again it's just like the game doesn't go through a natural progression and it ends before it feels like it should.

Overall though, I really enjoyed Ratchet & Clank. I like it's simple mission structure and satisfying core gameplay loop of killing enemies and destroying boxes for bolts to spend on new weapons. Unlocking new weapons and upgrading existing ones is at the forefront of the gameplay and keeps things fun. It's a gameplay loop I liked as a kid playing on the PSP and it's one that I still find compelling. I wish Ratchet & Clank made more of an impact on me and had more cohesive storytelling, but this is still a good game. So, despite its shortcomings, I give Ratchet & Clank a 7/10.

The shooting mechanics are enjoyable and the gameplay is rewarding but the game is full of uninteresting minigames, the story is very cliché with cringy humor and the characters are mediocre. The gameplay
In the beginning of the game I thought the gameplay was fun. Especially when jumping around and shooting at the same time. But later in the game I just thought it was repetitive. I enjoyed the large range of guns that you could use, but I just didn't have any fun with it.

The level settings I also didn't enjoy that much. It felt like all the levels could be switched if you just change the background. I did really enjoy the flying level, the home world of the galactic rangers planet and vehicle level. What I also found strange is that there are sections for Clank to explore but there are only 3 in the entire game, where one was the tutorial.

I thought that the inventory for switching guns was a bit too slow. I would have preferred a Batman: Arkham style UI or The Last of Us.

    The Style
The graphics look amazing for this game. It looks amazing from the reflections on clank to the levels itself. The story was fun! Only the difference for cutscenes and gameplay are really drastic. One example is that in a cutscene clank is taken away. And the first second of gameplay he is back. Also, the difference is graphics is also very noticeable.

I don't remember any music tracks if I am being honest.

    Conclusion
I really wanted to like Ratchet & Clank, but sadly I couldn't get into it and found myself being bored. My issues are that the game is too repetitive, the levels not unique, UI too clunky and the music not memorable.

I can see that the game is made with passion and love and the game is made really well, sadly it is not for me.

Aside from that I also had some problems with controls not being as responsive as I wanted them to.

And ratchet and clank don't really interact, which is really weird. They don't look at each other, or have ANY conflict whatsoever. The original ratchet was a prick, but a likeable prick. But if you played the original game... just avoid this one. Not because it fails miserably in any aspect, but because it disappoints a bit in every aspect.

The characters of Ratchet and Clank are gone. You control two boy scouts that share the names, but the hot-headed Lombax and the naive little robot are nowhere to be found. These new main characters have no chemistry or growth – they hardly even talk to each other during the whole game. The game does treat you to dead-eyed dialogue cutscenes with characters dryly spouting exposition though, and a jumble of short clips lifted from the tie-in movie.

The witty banter is gone. Instead, we get cringy meme humor. The iconic tunes are gone and replaced by the orchestral equivalent of elevator music. A lot of levels are gone because I don't know, not enough money I guess. Side characters are gone because gotta have Captain Qwark in every scene right? The core message of the story is absolutely gone. The new game is the kind of cash-driven mass-market fluff that the original game made fun of.

What the game does have is collectible cards. But don't worry, they aren't interesting or matter in any way.

Still, the worst part is the constant hand-holding. I'm all for accessibility in games, I really am. But when the main character himself just tells you the solution to the puzzle 10 seconds into it, when the narrator tells you which gadgets exactly you need to access "secret" areas and where to find them, when no one shuts up about your current objective and how to reach it... When the game treats you like an idiot, you start feeling like an idiot for buying the game.

Summary: A famous big-budget development house with Hollywood writers copied a 14-year-old game and somehow failed to match the quality.

    JUGABILIDAD:

So when this game was announced back in 2016 I was pretty hyped. A reinterpretation of one of my favorite games of all time the original Ratchet & Clank that came out back in 2002. However when I sat down to actually play the game I was really disappointed. I'm going to start with the good parts of the game and then make my way to what the game does poorly. Graphics and gameplay deserve real high praise, the way they made some planets from the original feel so much more alive was really cool, for example Kerwan and Rilgar. The gameplay in some parts are really nice, however level design on all the new planets feel really poor and lazy. The level design on planets like Aridia, Kerwan, Rilgar and more are really good, but when we move into different territory, like when they remade the level design of the planet Quartu, it's just a barrage of enemies with no clever design. The story of this game is not good at all, and even though I like the premise, it just falls flat, the jokes don't land the characters of Ratchet and Clank are done so dirty and just found the game just didn't feel right. One of the worst things that is featured in this game are the remakes of the classic scenes from the original, where Ratchet and Clank are talking to a person on a planet. In the original the cutscenes are so animated and just feel so alive and fun, however in this version they are so dead, Ratchet and Clank hardly speak or look at each other and we're supposed to believe these guys become best friends? I don't. A lot of people like to make the argument that this game is made for kids and that's why the jokes don't work or the story, but the original is a game that is kid friendly but the jokes often land, and the story is fun and compelling. The soundtrack is absolutely awful, and is actually an insult to the originals amazing soundtrack that would fit every planet so well, however in this game it's just some generic movie soundtrack that is so forgettable. To sum up this review, Ratchet and Clank 2016 is a lazy, forgettable mess that serves no justice to the characters that we knew and loved from the original trilogy and even the future series. The only good things about the game are graphics and the gameplay, with some good game design but I don't think it counts since it's from the original. All new game design is lazy and boring and a terrible soundtrack accompanies the mess that we play through. I rate this game a 5/10 and to be honest that is being generous, because I know Insomniac Games can make good and compelling games, they did it 2 years later with Marvel's Spider-Man, so here's hoping that the next Ratchet & Clank game they make will be good.

It's oldschool and basic in gameplay, with no surprises in store for the player. If you've played a few 3d platformer games, you've already seen what's in Ratchet & Clank. Not too creative or bold. Ultimately, it offers the basics of what you could expect, but without surprises or special moments.

And this is really a good first film, I enjoyed, but did not like, because I'm not the target audience. I know, many grown-ups liked it, but they had reasons like they have known this for some time. One thing that fascinated me was the production quality. I can't believe, it was not those silly B class animation, it was very much comparable to Disney, Pixar and DreamWorks films. The only thing that did not favour it was the story. If they have got that part right, it would have been one of the best animations of the years.

So the truth is I tempted to rate it higher for the quality of animation alone. The directors, and all artists must be praised for that. If I were a kid, it would have been my favourite. So what I'm saying it, this film will be loved by children. There's not child film critic, otherwise this film would have been appreciated better. The problem is the critics did not like it, and so the adults, but families with kids might have chance to enjoy it.

Some of the big names in the voice-over artist list, but that did not help the film to see its success. There's no innovation in it, everything you see in the film was already exploited in other films. All those the space warriors thing, the chosen one, villain, mad scientist, betrayal, you have seen them from 'Star wars' to 'Guardian of the Galaxy'. That is another reason for not having a good time with it. It is still very much a watchable film.

Positives- this game is fun to play with all its crazy weapons and gadgets that you find and upgrade along you journey which has become one of my favorite things in this franchise. For the most part game-play is great throughout the game besides some of the very simple new levels and a few questionable changes to old worlds the game is pleasant sight to go through and explore.

Negatives- The biggest problem this game suffers from is having to use the Movie's new plot which lacks tremendously compared to the original game. Old characters have changed completely and have lost all the charm they had original (and some characters are gone completely) . Ratchet and Clank for one barely talk to each-other in this version and most of their dialogue has turned very bland and boring conversations. Some worlds are missing or are combined in ways that just feels rushed for the story to just get done faster. There really isn't any character arcs at all in this game as Ratchet and Clank remain the same throughout and follow the normal hero tropes we all know about. The one exception is Captain Quark who does get some but at the cost of making his motivations not making since at all throughout this new story.

Personal nitpicks- For some reason developers also decided not to use the original soundtrack or a remixed version of it and that is a huge missed opportunity. This also goes for not bringing updated versions of older weapons which would have been nice to have and upgrade which was something that couldn't be done in the original game.

Overall while this game does not give justice to it source material it is pretty fun to go through and I hope it convince more people to play the original games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Combat is fun, but characters aren't as interesting as they were in the original. In the 2002 game, Ratchet was a tough guy who shot first and asked questions later in contrast to Clank. Now he's a dorky fanboy who's nice to everyone, like Clank.

Ratchet and Clank's relationship also takes a hit, with them instantly becoming friends with no visible growth of their relationship. In the original, the two start out as allies out of convenience, and even start to dislike each other briefly in the middle of the game, but eventually Ratchet and Clank become friends. In this game, Ratchet is calling Clank 'Pal' by the third level.

Also the scenes where the duo talk to other characters just seem stiff and bland.

An okay game, but not the best Ratchet and Clank game,.

I never got the chance to play a Ratchet & Clank game before this remake, and for being the first dive into a well established franchise I must say I’m really happy I got into it! It’s definitely not perfect by any means, if anything it started out at a solid 9 towards the beginning and slowly lost me more as it went on. What I didn’t like, the story is the most obvious & glaring fault here. It’s not bad, it’s just.. kinda there. Things happen and you move on in record time, it honestly felt like the game has ADHD, and not able to focus on one thing for too long. That sounds mean but I could probably compare the pace of this game to something like the Rise of Skywalker, just extremely fast without taking a second to really breathe even in the “slower” moments. It just doesn’t give you a lot of time to marinate on anything that happens & it feels more like a tie-in game for the movie at times, I saw the movie a while back & I’ve completely forgotten it by now so I’m not 100% on that accusation. Also, the final level of this game introduces some annoying mechanics that weren’t present in the rest of the game up until that point & it grinded the pacing & my enjoyment to a screeching halt. Everything else is really good though! The visuals are stunning to this day, especially with the new PS5 performance update, it never slowed down on me once no matter how many bolts were on screen. The gameplay is so fun too, there’s so many weapons to play with and swapping between them on the fly to decimate big groups of enemies was always a joy, even if the sensitive control scheme made me misclick more than a few times in the heat of battle. The moment to moment gameplay made me feel strangely nostalgic too, like I said I have 0 experience with this franchise so I’m not sure how the geniuses at Insomniac managed that but they did a great job! I miss simple games like these. The humor is also pretty good too, nothing drop dead hilarious, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously and I always enjoy games like that. Played this right before Rift Apart comes out so I have super high hopes for it now! I can’t wait to see where Insomniac takes Ratchet & Clank next. Expand

Ratchet & Clank (2016) is a reimagining of Ratchet and Clank (2002) that removes much of the crass humour and content of the original to make way for polish and more family friendly gags.

Although this game guts much of what there is to love about the original some choice new additions and the strong bones of this series prevent this title from becoming unpleasant.

I am a massive fan of the original Ratchet & Clank. This is my first R&C since the PS2 era and thought it would be best compared to these games as this has obviously taken inspiration from the original with the guns, maps, and in some aspects, gameplay.

What this game failed to do however was create an interesting story. I played most of this just to push on and complete the game after getting halfway through whereas I would've prefered to play it to see what's going to happen next.

The graphics, guns, animations are all amazing. It's exactly what I thought the original game looked like when I was a kid. Such smooth gameplay (in what is needed with a game like this trying to dodge bullets.)

Fighting in your ship however is no where near as satisfying as the original. It's very tedious and repetitive and they completely missed the mark with that one.

A massive downside of this game is the 'hacking device' which is the 'Tresspasser'. I played the game on hard and the challenges for this do change depending on the difficulty you're playing on and for someone who loves puzzle games like Portal I have to say what a terrible mini-game this is. I had to look up the solutions because the challenge isn't figuring out how to complete it, it's literally 'randomly spin these different circles and hope I complete it' compared to the previous R&C games where some skill was involved. A frustrating part of the game which took off a full rating point because it's not an enjoyable mini-game...

The weapon upgrade system is much improved which different varients available after finishing the game and playing on NG+. There's many upgrade nodes for each gun and for each time you level the gun up, the more appear.

Overal if you enjoyed the original R&C's you would still like this game, just maybe not as much.

The guns are cool and funny, but that is the extent of how interesting the combat is. Movement feels bad which surprises me for an insomniac game.

Maybe it was just me but it also seemed like the animations in the cutscenes dropped in quality massively by the end of the game.

Ratchet & Clank looks and plays as well as it ever has. Fans will enjoy the nostalgic journey through familiar planets, while newcomers will appreciate the chaotic and creative weaponry. But for the ninth game in a franchise that built its name on unique weapons, it’s a shame that the arsenal just coasts on fan-favorites. Insomniac played it safe.
