Another boring open world game. Developers please stop. We want linear cinematic experience, not sandbox.

Rage 2 has been a blast for me thus far. The gun play, skills, and general craziness of combat are some of the best I've experienced this generation. It's not to say the game has some flaws and the 2 major ones are the story and the vehicles. Again like it's predecessor Rage 2 has an extremely incoherent story with probably the most cookie cutter bad guys I have seen in a shooter since The Helgast from Killzone and the final boss (General Cross) Is poorly implemented and feels like a backstep from the final boss of DOOM 2016 which made use of player skill and a decent spike in difficulty.
Next the vehicles handle like ass which is baffling seeing as Mad Max had some fantastic controls (On Console) this maybe down to the mix of being an FPS and a Vehicle Combat game which may suggest a split on balancing.
Overall Rage 2 is a fun game that is painfully average in some portions but I would highly recommend picking it up on a sale only for the fantastic combat and something to keep your attention.

The gameplay is amazing, it has a huge skill tree, narrative-wise better than most single-player shooters this gen. I would probably put it on pair with Wolfenstein II. Boring, silly, folly.

The designers of the avalanche studio game are something extremely untalented.
Just cause x, mad max, Rage 2..
    Developers should be given prison.

    Bad gameplay
    Terrible gunplay
    Overcomplicated ui
    Trash music
    Terrible facial animation
    No story

Coins and luminous little things. In my opinion, the game was originally conceived as garbage to pump money, but then they realized that it was disgusting and the lootboxes would simply bury this game.

Riding uninteresting. There is only one car, everything else is just there. Skirmishes on cars are even worse.
Shooting is not interesting. But the management of the plant is not bad.
The graphics are good, but very poorly optimized.
The interface is the worst I've seen.

The game is unfinished. It has a huge amount of stupid flaws. I have not seen such a hack for a very long time. One of the worst games of the decade. Playing this is a real torture.

The combat system is quite enjoyable if a repetitive after a while. The variety of weapons available, whilst not huge, is fun. Each weapon has its own unique quirks and tactics that can make them fun to play about with. The RPG elements are quite extensive, not only can you level up weapons and other consumables, but you can customise them to better suit your particular play style. Your character is also customisable with different brances of customisation unlocked as you interact with each of the three main NPCs. FInally, the main vehicle is also upgradable to equip new weapons and improve its durability. The downside to these, is that you dont need to make a decision. There are easily enough items available through the game to upgraed all your traits, weapons and consumables This essentially robs the player of replayability that could come from picking a speciality and focusing on it for one playthrough before replaying as a different speciality.

Unfortunately that is about the limit of what I can say in a positive light about this game. The story line is incredibly short and could easily be completed in a few hours if the numerous enemy bases and collectables were ignored. The dialogue is fun and at times witty, but the main host of characters are instantly forgettable and the quest arcs so short it is difficult to feel any attachment or involvement in the games world.

Whilst the combat is fun, it suffers from a lack of variety. Most enemies can be killed by simply pounding them full of lead, removing the need to play around with your variety of weapons (I killed 95% of enemies using the assault rifle).

The overworld is mostly full of markers to investigate, but all basically amount to the same thing - an enemy base that must be infiltrated and cleared out -with a few extra tasks to complete along the way depending on the base type. This is a huge misstep. It is clear from some of the bases that someone at avalanche does have some idea of how to develop a compelling game with fun side quests. Some of the better side quests have there own little stories and great level design. However, most suffer from the same old reused models, rearranged slightly to give the impression of a new section of the game, but it is very apparent that its simply a Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V situation for the vast majority of the map.

This brings me to the vehicle combat. there are a number of vehicles to be collected in addition to your main vehicle which can be upgraded. However, the need to do so is minimal and all too easy. The only real combat comes from chasing down and destroying mad max-esque convoys led by large trucks, to curry favour with some of the NPCs. However, this quickly gets old and there is litttle else in the way of vehicle combat to speak of. The vehicles you work to collect and upgrade serve no other purpose than to get you from location A to location B in a world that feels oh-so-empty.

The final and perhaps most dissapointing thing was the large swathes of unused map. There is an entire racing circuit in one of the areas with no associated missions or side quests. Ther are other large sections of map that you can easily complete the game without visiting. They contain nothing, no side quests, no missions, no collectables. This screams of an incomplete game. A world map that can hold so much and was fleshed out with copy-paste bases instead of story and characters.

Overall Rage has the feeling of a game that needed another 6-12 months in the incubator coupled with a decent amount of feedback from playtesters. There is so much potential in this game that could have been unlocked with a little bit of TLC but it fails to realise almost any of it. It is also notable that in the 6 months since release, there have been few patches to fill in any of the empty map spaces or correct some of the numerous glitches and laggy menus that plague the game.

Combat is addicting and rewarding, but because the open world is a standard checklist one, it can get repetitive. You combine your special abilities with shooting and it's an easy 9/10. Other than the combat in this game, everything else is just average and disappointing. Driving is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, (it is overly arcadey, but serviceable). It's vehicular combat is few and far between, and not as satisfying as it looks tbh. The story itself was a disgrace, plus 8 main missions makes you wonder if they even tried on the storytelling part.
Pros: amazing combat, rewarding loot, arks, guns and abilities
So-so: driving and vehicular combat, some interesting and addicting open world activities (the blue markers mostly), while most are repetitive checklist material.
Cons: extremely short campaign, disgraceful/disappointing lack of story, uninteresting characters and npcs.
Can you imagine if this game had an decent story and campaign, it would easily been game of the year thus far.. right now it's a checklist game with amazing gameplay that should've been released at $40, because unless you're a trophy/ or achievement junky, it's a generally short game unless you like repetition a lot.

Exploration is the least satisfying of any open world game I've ever played in my life. There are a few weapons and powers you have to find scattered across the wasteland, but that's it. It's a big open waste of time and space.

Since the writing and characters are atrocious, and every bandit-infested gas station or roadside attraction is exactly the same, there is exactly zero motivation to do anything but follow the arrows to your next objective. At least the original RAGE had character, and a fun CCG built in.

    Skip RAGE 2.

In the year 2019 you simply can't release a forced 1st person game anymore. People don't like forced 1st person games. So don't do it. You always, ALWAYS add an optional 3rd person view option in any game. Because if you don't, your game will not get far. Just don't do it. Hope devs learn and especially CDPR too.

I feel like I could write a book about all the terrible design decisions made for this game, but since I'm limited here I'll just cover the basics.

To sum it up, this is one of the worst "open world" games I've ever played.

It's main ability/mechanic is "Overdrive", basically the more enemies you kill in a short time frame, the more Felrite (Xp) you get per kill. This also allows you to buff your weapons for a short duration, basically just increasing their damage output. Problem is... the majority of the time you won't be fighting very many enemies. Most random open world events just have 1-8 enemies, meaning you won't even be able to hit the max multiplier of 10x. Every point of interest on the map usually only has you fight at max like 16 enemies at once, so even doing those doesn't allow you to use it much. Perhaps you could just increase the difficulty to increase how many enemies spawn? Nope. They went the lazy route with designing difficulty and just make your weapons weaker and the enemy weapons stronger. Playing this game on anything but Nightmare or harder makes it a joke, but this leads the problem with how you heal. You heal through the Overdrive mechanic, but if you're playing safe (avoiding incoming damage) you won't be able to max out your Overdrive and thus get more Hp and Xp per kill. The only other way to heal is to buy/craft healing injections. Both of which slow down the gameplay considerably. Seeing a problem with it's main ability/mechanic yet?

That's just one ability, I could touch on each and every ability you can get and how terribly designed they are. (A defensive shield that even when fully upgraded sucks at being a defensive shield for example.)

Let's touch on the weapons and how to acquire them. Weapons and Abilities both are tied to open world exploration, you have to find Arks to get access to the few weapons and abilities the game has. Not much are marked on your map to start and the only way to find them is by following a vague beam of light that shoots into the sky from each Ark location. (yet the beams of light disappears constantly... bug? intended?), If you don't just google a map of each Ark location you could spend most of the game not even having access to all the weapons and abilities. (There aren't even that many) Now lets talk about the weapons, they all have a Primary and Alternate FIre mode, but they're horribly unoriginal, several just have an AIm down the Sights mode where as others seem to have just been designed to "look cool" for a trailer but be terrible at actual combat situations. Like the Firestorm Revolver, what does it do? Well it's horribly inaccurate primary fire shoots darts basically that stick into the enemies then what does it's secondary fire do? It just snaps your fingers and makes the darts explode setting it's target on fire.... Is is just me or is that horribly unnecessary? The darts could easily just explode on their own (like they do when you use Overdrive) and thus give the gun something more interesting to do with it's alternate fire, but nope, it's just a mechanic to "look cool" when you snap your fingers instead of making any sense for a combat situation. The upgrades you get for weapons seem to just be how the weapon was originally designed to be like, but they stripped it down making the default version a much worse version of how the weapon should be. For example, the "insanely innovative" upgrades for your rocket launcher that locks on to enemies, is, one upgrade allows you to lock onto a SECOND enemy! Omg! So exciting! What does another upgrade down the line do? You guessed it! You can lock onto a THIRD enemy!! So exciting, so innovative. (Your other choices are even less interesting as just being reload speed upgrades or magazine size upgrades.)

The open world itself feels incredibly pointless and the entire game would be better if they just lined up every point of interest into a line and turned the game into a linear game. You can see all the random events that exist within 5 minutes of playing and they're all pointless. (Race someone for 1 Vehicle Upgrade part or kill random enemies on the road for a pathetic amount of xp is what it boils down to). The points of interests themselves all feel copy-pasted reusing the same environments for the same events over and over with minor differences in layout to not just be exact copy paste.

Do yourself a favor and skip this game, I wouldn't even suggest it on sale. Even free is a waste of time and there are better free games to play.

Enemies will duck, roll, and move in all kinds of expressive ways in response to the way you approach them. Rage 2 also boasts competent level design, which looks as good as it feels to traverse, with some glaring exceptions (Certain world activities have nearly identical layouts). The driving combat is visually spectacular and fun at first, but quickly becomes stale, with controls that aren't quite on par with the on-foot combat.

The plot is worthless, the characters cardboard, attempting to compensate for their lack of substance with irreverent humor that mostly falls flat. The character models for the more important NPCs are notably much better than the rest by a large margin, whereas their voice actors' performances are just as hit or miss as the average wasteland schmuck's. Also, the music is pretty weak overall, like the composers were attempting to evoke Mick Gordon's hard-hitting scores from better games, but only managing to produce the diet soda equivalent.

In the end, Rage 2 kneecaps itself with an excess of downtime between the excitement of each combat encounter and an inescapable sense of mediocrity that pervades every corner of its frequently gorgeous world. It would have been better off with a more tightly paced, linear progression like its close relative Doom 2016 (A game that overshadows Rage 2 in nearly every category). Hopefully the best parts of Rage 2's combat make their way into Doom Eternal and the worst elements stay far away.

Everything outside of the shooting is mundane to, often bad. I knew it wasn't going to be great so I waited to buy it used and I'm already regretting it massively. I recommend waiting for a deep sale and many, many more patches and perhaps updates. There is fun to be had but it is covered in a knee high layer of jank and outdated open world mechanics.

The action mechanics are great, the shooting, jumping and exploding. Everything else is not. The open world is just an empty, uninspired obstacle, the vehicle driving a not especially funny mess and the story is a laughing matter (in a bad way). Overall just a forgettable game.

    Bonito y divertido videojuego.

Rage 2, jahrelang drauf gewartet.

This is nothing like Rage 1. It is very repetitive in all the biomes. They did nothing to change it up when you advance zones. It just felt very cookie cutter. There are basically 3 types of missions and they are all same, all 300 hundred of them, rinse and repeat. Got boring real quick. But i had to complete it. I got it on PC.

Its not the worst, but its not past mediocre either.

However, when I started playing the game and when I finished, I was disappointed by many things. First of all, my main gripe with the game is the story. I was hoping for it to follow really close to the original game and to explain a lot about what happened after the previous game. This us not the case. This games story is boring and the game only makes up for it with the combat. The world doesn't look similar to the previous RAGE at all. Instead of it looking like an actual post-apocalyptic wasteland, it looks like Sunset Overdrive and how wacky that looked. Sunset Overdrive is a good game but the setting and look of that does not fit to the theme of RAGE. The vehicular combat isn't that good as well and not even on par with the first installments take on the subject. I think what Id Studious and Avalanche was doing was they wanted to appeal to a new audience and make a story that wasn't really that connected to the first RAGE because not many people played it. But, I think they should've followed way way closer to RAGE and made it be almost right after the first game. Then, they maybe could've remastered RAGE 1 and put it in the deluxe edition or something. Instead of aiming to the people that actually wanted the game, they aimed at a new audience that didn't really care for the game in the first place. I give it a 6/10. Expand

Cross (the main antagonist) is such a dislikable character and I think that's what they were going for. I really enjoyed going up against him throughout the story. They did a great job with the allies as far as them being likeable and they did their job. I loved the story for what it's supposed to be and overall it did what it was supposed to do. The graphics are superb, maybe because I'm playing on a 4K but it's great. I saw multiple comments saying the game looks like a 360 game. Are you on meth? The colors go great with the theme and wackiness of the game.

The biomes and diversity of the world was surprising. I didn't expect anything too interesting but I loved driving and flying across the different areas of the map. The biggest issue has to be the open world; it feels bland, lifeless & uninteresting to explore. Traveling feels like a chore with long empty roads and little variation regardless of the biome. Car combat is rare however taking down convoy leaders is the best part! Picking off minions before engaging with the boss on the open road felt fun! Still there isn’t a sense of speed in driving. Aside from locating Arks for new abilities/weapons, I just don’t feel compelled to explore the map (which is rare for me!). The humour is just not funny. Combat wise the game is good, but the other weak aspects just weigh it down too much, it’s just another post-apocalyptic open world game released this year. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Rage 2 is another open-world shooter that does nothing new and just uses the mechanics that other games have pioneered to create an average open-world shooter. When I saw Rage 2 advertisements I was instantly on board because it looked like doom mixed with an open-world shooter and just the concept of that is amazing, and at some points, the game does feel like an open-world doom but its very rare. The first main problem with this game is all the bugs I've encountered and just the lack of polish that the game very much needs. In my playthrough of Rage 2, there were so many bugs that took me out of the experience and just bricked my game entirely. At one point the game broke so bad that the audio completely disappeared and I had to restart my console entirely just to get my audio back. Also, many of the textures I saw looked straight up like the original Doom game and i saw many texture pop-ins in my run of Rage 2. The story is also non-existent, there are only like 10 main missions and all of them are kind of boring besides like one or two of them. However, when I saw this game I knew the story wasn't going to be that strong so I didn't expect much. The open-world in Rage 2 is also a bit shallow, don't get me wrong there are multiple locations in this game but they are mostly just one unique location copy and pasted all over the map. But every once in a while, you will stumble upon a very cool location and it's like your going through a dungeon in Zelda or one of those prepper stashes in Far Cry 5. The driver feels very good besides motorcycles which feel terrible to drive, but besides that, the driving feels very good and I applaud them for making driving such fun when they didn't have too. This goes for the gunplay too, when you are running around shooting feels absolutely amazing. All the guns feel powerful and kind of have a weight to them but some of the guns do feel weak compared to others and not needed. But for the most part, the guns are good and the gunplay is even better. The powers are another highlight too, all of them feel so fun to use and none of them feel useless besides one. The game decides to give you a power that allows you to deploy a barrier that I never used in the game besides when I had to in the tutorial. The game wants you to move around and never stay in one area which completely defeats the purpose of the barrier. It's obvious that the developers couldn't think of another power so they decided to put in this one, they could have made the barrier power but just put a barrier around you so you could move around while you have a shield. So overall this game is an above-average open-world game that comes out about every year. Is it the worst game you will play? No, but it certainly isn't the best you're going to play. So this mainly comes down to if you wanna play another open-world game then just pick up Rage 2. However, if you are looking for something good, I wouldn't recommend picking this up. Expand

CONS: The story line was epic level of cringe. The enemies looked intimidating, but just stood there and took it not matter how slow I was, the HUGE enemies, just as pathetic. In the first scene, there was this Granny age female, who runs into combat, she's got no appearance of body strength or any dexterity, but she just 'hip barges' a bunch of dudes out of the way who happened to be standing there? l'univers est un mix entre Mad Max et Borderlands avec un peu de rose dessus, le problème c'est que je n'ai rien ressenti pendant mais quasi 20 heures sur ce jeu, la seule chose qui m'importait était de vidé les camps pour pouvoir faire la seule chose de potable sur le jeu, cad SHOOTER!!!!

It Was Awesome I simply could not wait for this game to get a release date because it was everything that I wanted from a sequel to Rage and more. E3 only served to increase my hype for Rage 2, but something about the gameplay demo didn't sit right with me.

Fast forward to May 2019 and I was baffled by review scores for Rage 2. It was only when I started playing the game that I understood what was wrong. Despite all of the clever pre-release marketing that cannily broke the fourth wall and possessed a Deadpool-esque style of humour that hinted at a smart self-aware game, Rage 2 was actually disappointingly dumb by comparison.

For me, the game's potential as a great sequel ended with the opening cinematic/monologue. After this point, the game's narrative became a parody of itself. The prologue I experienced was cringe inducing, woefully written, and just horribly cliched - your home base gets destroyed, the main villain personally shows up to join the 'party' (and somehow doesn't get killed then and there), your mentor gets killed personally by the main villain, and every other Ranger gets killed in the attack, leaving just you as the 'Last Ranger' who is the only one who can save the day. It doesn't get any better after this.

The main plot of Rage 2 involves seeking out 3 prominent figureheads to help you enact Project Dagger - an operation that will defeat the Authority - but that's about it. Despite it's 8 to 10 hour campaign length, Rage 2's main plotline is actually disappointingly very short. In total there are only 8 missions that make up the main story, but the campaign's overall length is padded out by the need to complete various open world activities to level up each figurehead's resistance meter and unlock that figurehead's next mission - somewhat similar to Just Cause 4. This is really a waste of storytelling potential because the world building and various factions present in Rage 2 could have provided excellent material and awesome story moments to help flesh out the main story and the player's interactions with these factions. It's also a huge waste of the brilliant concept and art design that went into developing Rage 2's world.

Another shocking disappointment is the COMPLETE LACK OF SIDE MISSIONS. I find this immensely frustrating because Rage 1 had A LOT of side missions which is why their absence in Rage 2 is highly questionable. There are perpetual bounties, but they amount to very little besides killing generic enemies and receiving piddly amounts of points and cash. In terms of world design, Rage 2 is a massively missed opportunity - the world is more open and explorable than the original, but it is completely empty and devoid of life besides the many side activity markers that dot the map. And speaking of side activities, I quickly became uninterested in Rage 2's side activities because of how repetitive they were - as a personal message to the developers, this is a really, really big problem when these side activities make up nearly 90% of the content in your game. Beyond this, Rage 2 lacks any form of decent story content.

I'd talk about the combat, but really that part of the game speaks for itself - weighty weapons that pack a hefty punch, plus a few unique toys that make Rage 2 almost redeemable. Take for example the gun that shoots darts that let you literally play around with the physics of enemies and objects, maybe making them collide or do other hilarious things. Or the gun that shoots bullets that ignite when you snap your fingers. These are just two examples of how Rage 2's combat sets itself apart from the competition, but it isn't without its problems. I experienced an annoying glitch where the revolver's bullets wouldn't ignite and another glitch where one of my weapons wouldn't do any damage at all

Design-wise, I found some significant flaws in Rage 2. Just before you leave, there are a whole bunch of NPC's all grieving in the wake of the attack, at the centre of which is Lily, the main character's best friend. After getting in the Phoenix ranger vehicle and driving a hundred metres away, I made a quick U-turn and headed back to the home base. I was startled to find that all the NPC's had disappeared and Lily was left awkwardly standing by herself in the same position. It didn't matter how many times I fast travelled to the home base, Lily would still be there doing the same thing. This speaks volumes of the design shortcuts taken in Rage 2.

It shocks me to think that it took 5 years to make Rage 2 and yet the original remains the better game. I can only hope they do better with Rage 3

Though I am disappointed in rage 2 and it's expensive and extensive micro transactions and day one removed content sold back to users in a AAA full priced 60$ game.

Rage 2 is really only like rage 1 only in visuals and name though 1 wasn't a great game and on launch had many of the technical issues now seen with rage 2 on pc and consoles.
Rage 2 is also not Mad Max which was the devs critically exclaimed but poorly received last game. I loved mad max. So i hoped i would love rage 2. I did enjoy aspects of R2 but like Days Gone ps4 it has launched in a less than desirable state.

There are serious graphic issues on all systems and on consoles textures can look blurry with a frame rate below 30fps...even on pro (super sampled). In 2019 I find this disappointing. Though the lighting is often excellent, as is the world design but your characters (man or woman) are awful.

The sound is acceptable though it can cut out and music is also a little too glitchy and doesn't always play in a dynamic way fitting to the on-screen action .

    Gameplay is good...fun..thrilling!
But can be hit and miss with large open areas of nothing to see or do. Gun-play is cool and creative as expected but there isn't always enough to do with it or long enough to enjoy the best parts of the game.

The missions are whacky and the story is zaney but like the characters ...nothing special.
There can be a fair bit of repetition and grind at times though there is a variety of things to do but spread thinly.

Car combat is not on mad max level of speed or quality. I have no idea why but I guess this is to do with the console limitations. It just isn't that fun though much of what there is has been lifted directly from mad max.

Lastability. No multiplayer right now which makes no sense when you see the micro transactions. It will last about 8 hours on medium difficulty. The AI is nothing special so you can play on hard but it doesn't change the game signififacntly beyond creating an artificial hardness and maybe a few more hours. If you're a completionist then maybe 20 hours but that's a lot of grind and busy work, as side missions aren't anything special or inspired.

Lets talk micro transactions. This is my main issue outside of the many tech and performance problems.

Four different payment choices for the game's premium currency, called RAGE Coins.
You should rage at these coins!

    500 RAGE Coins: $4.99
    1100 RAGE Coins: $9.99
    2,500 RAGE Coins: $19.99
    4,500 RAGE Coins: $34.99

This is a full price single player AAA game and on day one you have desirable content removed and sold back to the user. Its cosmetic for now but the game is based around cosmetics...the look of the guns and cars etc. Looking cool is the gameplay so charging players at full price to buy what they use to earn (in rage 1 and most games) is sleazy.

The premium store is not hidden and you will be aware of it and gently pushed towards them.
It's mostly weapon and vehicle skins but as the main game lacks a wealth of actual content or story I find these transactions harmful to the game.

There are also items available in the store you can purchase. They're are found through the game in the campaign and the idea is to skip the game and buy them early. You can use the in game's currency to pay for these items too but not the cosmetics.
I felt that the game forces you in contact with the micro transactions which is some destiny 2 level of shady stuff.

There is no way for you to get RAGE Coins unless you purchase them from the store. Real money in a AAA full price game. How you feel about that is your choice but it isn't great.

Summary: Rage 2 runs at about 30fps or lower on consoles. It has a well known audio bug which involves restarting the game. The car mechanics are 'off' and there are microtransactions in a game which didn't previously have them.

I'd wait for a sale if you like the genre due to the technical issues and micro transactions.

THe powers you unlock are very fun and intuitive. I see a group of bad guys and I think "okay, I'll jump in with my slam, then throw my vortex, then I'll double jump up there and throw some grenades, and yada yada". Very satisfying. I don't really follow the narrative in most games, so I can't really judge that - but if you are about fun open world exploring and exciting gameplay then this is your game.

Finding new vehicles is fun too. You see a new one out in the world and you bring it back to the nearest garage and now you can call it up anytime for a small fee. Very exciting to find a new car.

Otherwise the game lacked any kind of pacing or cinematic quality. Gameplay fundamentals were good but main weapons and abilities were locked behind vaults spread out over the entire massive map. So by the time you get everything you want, it's about time for the game to be over. Which is another way to say you spend most of the game without the coolest stuff. A next gen patch and a bug overhaul would go a long way for this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Rarely review games, but I needed to do it for this game.

I actually really liked this game, overall it's a shooter, with very little story or fluff to take up space. Looking at you Wolfenstein and Doom, you were supposed to be semi-mindless shooters. Rage 2 is exactly that, a mindless shooter, and I like it.

    But it does have issues:
    - No real story, also means just meandering around the map clearing it, and the story is very quickly done.
    - "Holes" in the world where you can slip behind it, usually happens on motor bikes or the Icaros.
    - "Cheat" Wizard appearing completely random, met him once, didnt have money, read what it was and couldn't find him again. Literally spent 2 hours flying around looking in the 7 spots I could figure out he should be in. Lame beyond hell, and how is this a cheat anyway, it's buffs you can randomly find from a merchant that won't reappear. One buff he sells is x2 felrite for some hours, as if felrite was a rare resource. At the end of the game, without his buff, I had 30k+ felrite left, and continuously got more, but money?
    - After completing the game, and every single place on the map, I still did not have enough money for everything, money apparently being the most valuable resource in the game . Not even close, no the only way to get the money is by grinding. **** that, and **** that development manager that took that decision. Spending a couple of hours delivering the same vehicle over and is not fun, bounty hunting for scraps even more so. At the end I had still not bought any skins, and I'd grinded at least 30K, but I ended with less than 10K. And I didn't even waste more than a couple of hundred on ammo, so what the hell?
    - Same goes for Project Points, I was missing more than 20 project points after completing the entire map, what's up with that? Also Projects wasn't really worth it for top tier, best tier was usually two or three, again really crappy design.
    - Upgrades from the doctor in Well Spring, I think I ended with having 5 of each, I simply couldn't find more of the components, I might have more at the end, like 2-3 more, but I was missing 15 in total?!??!?! I cleared the map, and bought everything from every vending machine and vendor I came across.
    - I ended up with 20-30 additional weapon cores, and other upgrade stuff, but too little of others.
    - It was literally not until I had to go into the last mission I figured out how to call vehicles in, not that it was important, but again why make it so stupid?!?!??
    - 90% of weapon used by me was riffle and shotgun, 5% rocket launcher, rest of the weapons weren't very useful. Well fire revolver was good in a pinch, but besides that? Generally the other weapons were semi-useless. Hyper riffle, which is likely the last weapon you'll get has 3 ammo, yes it can hit several people in a line, but can you line them up in a chaotic shooter? Not me. And the plasma canon also sucked, why to little damage.
    - Weapons and abilities from Arks were stupidly placed on the map, basically making it so you wouldn't have the ability, till you could max it out the moment you got it. Yeah Vortex level 1, no 2 sec. Vortex level 3 with all upgrades. Hyper riffle, let's see you use the basic version? No, it's fully upgraded, uhm fine.
    - Empty areas on the map, I've played a lot of board games, and this game reeks of unfinished parts, that will likely come as DLC's, I don't care about that, but it felt weird flying over a race track that you couldn't race on.
    - Saves, I still cannot figure out how it decides to save, and where it pops you after death, which wouldn't be a problem if..
    - Edge of map kills fast, ravines kills fast, soo many way to die quickly, and it's super annoying sliding slowly to your doom, without any way to save yourself.

Still this is a good mindless shooter, but it does have problems.

You can beat the game even with a shotgun.

I am saying it again, it had the potentials, it had the atmosphere, the 80's feel, the blood, the horror, the punks, the apocalypse but god! that story was so rushed and the voice acting was so poor...

The only thing that did well was the shooting part, which is so addictive and satisfying as hell and the performance which was running flawless without fps drops and stutters...
But obviously this is not enough from a AAA game which costs 59,99.

Rage 2 is a GREAT game! Very beautiful graphics, specially lighs and explosions. Although it's only 1080p on Ps4pro, it more than makes up for it with 60fps and above avarage, modern visuals. The story is obviously not the focus, but rather the gameplay, which is a blast. I've been playing videogames for 25 years and I can say that this is a fun and very well made game.

It seems like a lot of gamers expected something that this game is not: a story-driven game. This game is just dumb fun, and I think that's what most iD games are. The shooting mechanics feel incredibly tight, the vehicles are fun to drive, the graphics are quite good for an open world game, the art direction is beautiful, and most of all - it's fun! I haven't had this fun in a game since Doom (2016) and Zelda - Breath of the wild.

Rage 1 was an interesting tech demo back in the day (well that is how I saw it). This is the final product a concept fully realised? Yeah it has some fun gun play/abilities sprinkled in between lots of empty open world jank driving and very dull open world story elements.

This is supposed to be an Earth in Future from the NPC references local to USA? Games like Division and Fallout take cultural and political critical pot shots as Rage 2, but it is an equal opportunity bullet to the face unlike Rage 2.

Visually the game looks over bright, but not in a fun whacky Borderlands 1/2 way. Characters look gross and weird. Story, dialogue and characters written by some who still writes with color wax crayons probably? Yeah it's that basic and dumb. What is with the SJW hair cut in this game lol?

When stuff is going at speed and/or a lot is going on the screen performance dips to point this game was not optimised for the PS4. The in game menus also freeze so no smooth transition swapping menu screens. This is almost on par with the poor performance of Borderlands 3 gameplay/menu slowdowns.

A missed opportunity for sure. Gun play/abilities 7/10, open world 5/10, driving 3/10, writing 1/10, escapism 0/10, performance 4/10. Rage 2 the game is comparable to the current failings of many Hollywood movies. Flashy, mindless, full of cringe writing and over staying it’s welcome.

The game engine itself looks great and runs smooth. In this regard it deserves probably a 9. The sound effects are pretty good too also when it comes to surround aspects but I wouldnt consider it topnotch. Loading times and fast travel went pretty in the seconds. Also I did not encounter any bluescreens or framedrops which is pretty solid but the gameplay itself is pretty flat. The story can be even considered bad or at least very flat. I do not like the vehicles and how the world traversal feels. It is kinda bothersome and pointless to do.

Most of the objectives are not very entertaining either. Basically it is drive to x, kill everything and move on or collect stuff. This is not enough in my opinion and way too generic. Looking around for singular boxes to complete areas is also pretty much only a waste of time and drove me crazy. The gunplay and gore is entertaining but even this is very flat. Basically dash, dodge, shoot, done. AI is very stupid on the intended game difficulty. Boss mobs are rare and mostly one mode re-skinned 4 times. If you know how to take them they wont even fire at you.

I basically used two guns, didnt even unlock most of the others which I do not even know why but it feels weird because I nearly full cleaned the first two areas. Some passage and turrent enemies are very frustrating and the racing modes do not add much either.

All in all I kinda like the style of this game, the action, gore and how they wanted the game to be and to reflect but the core is dead and without any passion for gamers. I bought the deluxe edition on a sale for 25 bucks and I m not sure whether it was worth it, so that tells much about the game quality and the fun I had. It still wasnt bad only and I do had some fun it was just very bland and in all honesty I wouldnt buy it again and so I would also not recommend this as a buy even on sale, sadly.

    Avalanche Studios

The game had huge potentiality to become one of the best FPS games in this decade. After you play about an hour you realize that the only good thing is gun play, that is so satisfying, but the story, repetitive missions ( both main and side) and open world is an absolute crap. Three points for gun play, zero for the rest.

This is a fun game. No question about the gameplay being fun. Combat mechanics are a good time, there's many abilities you can utilise to make meat puppets of your enemies.

The story is very bland and I honestly felt the need to skip through most dialogue as it's fairly run of the mill cliché and nothing to write home about. However, most people know that story comes second to id

The story is very bland and I honestly felt the need to skip through most dialogue as it's fairly run of the mill cliché and nothing to write home about. However, most people know that story comes second to id software games and gameplay rises above, even though it can be somewhat repetitive. The issues are more of the usual problems with Bethesda games.

This game is a buggy mess and I can't believe it still hasn't been fixed a year later as the game is completely broken in certain aspects. There are minor glitches that didn't phase me much but were repetitive enough to bring up.

"Wingsticks" (a throwable weapon like a boomerang) would act very strangely most of the time. When I would hold L1 to aim and lock on, the wingstick wouldn't appear in my hand, instead it was a red flashing light which at first confused me but then I realised the model just wouldn't appear more than half the time I used it. I also found it to fly around a bit unpredictably even though it was supposed to follow a trajectory you can see but this was only a minor inconvenience.

The touchpad menu with the map and upgrades etc is also laggy when switching tabs and some of the upgrade systems (like how you can upgrade your abilities with perks) wasn't obvious to me until late into the story. It can be a little confusing the way it's laid out and made up names of a lot of things.

My BIGGEST complaint is that I couldn't finish the game and through no fault of my own. I actually wanted to, as the story is fairly short. Twice in my playthrough I had mission objectives disappear and not work. Once was ok as it fixed itself in about 10 minutes after fast travelling and driving about. The second still hasn't fixed itself and I've played about 5 more hours since it stopped. I spoke to one of the mission givers after completing the final objective before heading to last story mission. I accidentally went out of the map because I tried flying in a straight line when the game seemed to want me to go around an awkward route. Leaving the map essentially kills you and makes you load to your last checkpoint. When I loaded back in, the objective marker was gone, I couldn't talk to any mission givers anymore and when I went to the objective location, it said I wasn't ready, even though my mission log says everything is done. I fast travelled, restarted the game, spoken to everyone I could, completed countless free roam tasks, etc... Nothing worked. I've seen online many people on all platforms reporting the exact same problem so this is not just my copy.

I can't believe the Devs haven't updated the game to resolve this issue as I'm literally giving up now and not completing it. It's just not worth it now. I've read that some people say you're not supposed to drive a specific vehicle you are given until you need it on the way to the final mission but if that's the case it's incredibly dumb as the vehicle is dropped in front of you well before the last mission. Up until this last stretch I did have some fun with the game, that is why I am giving it a 5 but now I'm just fed up.

I can say the game is fun but I can't recommend Rage 2 until these issues are fixed and by the look it they don't care and are just ignoring them. They've updated the game to give new "happy new year" skins for some guns so it's ridiculous that they are working on silly things like that over actually allowing players to finish the game. Don't support buggy messes like this.

Rage 2’s nonsensical story is unbearable, and the unskippable exploration parts are mostly irritating and boring. Luckily, the shooting gameplay is so amazing that it’s easy to forgive these flaws. And while encounters can become repetitive, new weapons and abilities make sure there’s always some fun to be had.

Rage 2 is a victim of a wave of technical issues and painfully average story but still manages to be one of the most fun FPS you can encounter and can provide you with your adrenaline shot for the day if needed.

The relentless thrill of one half of it dragged down by the barren, boring needless sprawl of the other. [Issue#334, p.110]
