Awesome, fantastic and impactful gunplay. High Octane bandit camps and mutant nest levels. Can be quite easy once overleveled. Progression system does not induce choice - you can get everything

Compelling story? Nope. Well-developed characters? Not a one. Shooting? Some of the best to ever appear on PS4. Excellent mechanics, satisfying handling, and bucket loads of fun! This game is under reviewed. Just don’t go in expecting something it’s not.

Great combat.... I played this game for combat and i was satisfied.... There was no story and world was soo boring... But the combat was sooo good... It was better than doom There I said it.... Only if there was more life to the world it would have been easy 10/10..... Anyways satisfied with the game.. gg

Excellent gameplay, but as the credits rolled i can't help thinking to myself this game had so much wasted potential. Were talking about game of the year gameplay material here, with literally no story, and an ubisoft checklist open world. Combat is addicting and rewarding, but because the open world is a standard checklist one, it can get repetitive. You combine your special abilities with shooting and it's an easy 9/10. Other than the combat in this game, everything else is just average and disappointing. Driving is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, (it is overly arcadey, but serviceable). It's vehicular combat is few and far between, and not as satisfying as it looks tbh. The story itself was a disgrace, plus 8 main missions makes you wonder if they even tried on the storytelling part.
Pros: amazing combat, rewarding loot, arks, guns and abilities
So-so: driving and vehicular combat, some interesting and addicting open world activities (the blue markers mostly), while most are repetitive checklist material.
Cons: extremely short campaign, disgraceful/disappointing lack of story, uninteresting characters and npcs.
Can you imagine if this game had an decent story and campaign, it would easily been game of the year thus far.. right now it's a checklist game with amazing gameplay that should've been released at $40, because unless you're a trophy/ or achievement junky, it's a generally short game unless you like repetition a lot.

For me, the gameplay that was shown looked like a combination of Fallout 4's colourful art style mixed with Doom 2016's fast, frenetic combat with a hint of futuristic Mad Max 2015 thrown in for good measure. It Was Awesome I simply could not wait for this game to get a release date because it was everything that I wanted from a sequel to Rage and more. E3 only served to increase my hype for Rage 2, but something about the gameplay demo didn't sit right with me.

Fast forward to May 2019 and I was baffled by review scores for Rage 2. It was only when I started playing the game that I understood what was wrong. Despite all of the clever pre-release marketing that cannily broke the fourth wall and possessed a Deadpool-esque style of humour that hinted at a smart self-aware game, Rage 2 was actually disappointingly dumb by comparison.

For me, the game's potential as a great sequel ended with the opening cinematic/monologue. After this point, the game's narrative became a parody of itself. The prologue I experienced was cringe inducing, woefully written, and just horribly cliched - your home base gets destroyed, the main villain personally shows up to join the 'party' (and somehow doesn't get killed then and there), your mentor gets killed personally by the main villain, and every other Ranger gets killed in the attack, leaving just you as the 'Last Ranger' who is the only one who can save the day. It doesn't get any better after this.

The main plot of Rage 2 involves seeking out 3 prominent figureheads to help you enact Project Dagger - an operation that will defeat the Authority - but that's about it. Despite it's 8 to 10 hour campaign length, Rage 2's main plotline is actually disappointingly very short. In total there are only 8 missions that make up the main story, but the campaign's overall length is padded out by the need to complete various open world activities to level up each figurehead's resistance meter and unlock that figurehead's next mission - somewhat similar to Just Cause 4. This is really a waste of storytelling potential because the world building and various factions present in Rage 2 could have provided excellent material and awesome story moments to help flesh out the main story and the player's interactions with these factions. It's also a huge waste of the brilliant concept and art design that went into developing Rage 2's world.

Another shocking disappointment is the COMPLETE LACK OF SIDE MISSIONS. I find this immensely frustrating because Rage 1 had A LOT of side missions which is why their absence in Rage 2 is highly questionable. There are perpetual bounties, but they amount to very little besides killing generic enemies and receiving piddly amounts of points and cash. In terms of world design, Rage 2 is a massively missed opportunity - the world is more open and explorable than the original, but it is completely empty and devoid of life besides the many side activity markers that dot the map. And speaking of side activities, I quickly became uninterested in Rage 2's side activities because of how repetitive they were - as a personal message to the developers, this is a really, really big problem when these side activities make up nearly 90% of the content in your game. Beyond this, Rage 2 lacks any form of decent story content.

I'd talk about the combat, but really that part of the game speaks for itself - weighty weapons that pack a hefty punch, plus a few unique toys that make Rage 2 almost redeemable. Take for example the gun that shoots darts that let you literally play around with the physics of enemies and objects, maybe making them collide or do other hilarious things. Or the gun that shoots bullets that ignite when you snap your fingers. These are just two examples of how Rage 2's combat sets itself apart from the competition, but it isn't without its problems. I experienced an annoying glitch where the revolver's bullets wouldn't ignite and another glitch where one of my weapons wouldn't do any damage at all

Design-wise, I found some significant flaws in Rage 2. Just before you leave, there are a whole bunch of NPC's all grieving in the wake of the attack, at the centre of which is Lily, the main character's best friend. After getting in the Phoenix ranger vehicle and driving a hundred metres away, I made a quick U-turn and headed back to the home base. I was startled to find that all the NPC's had disappeared and Lily was left awkwardly standing by herself in the same position. It didn't matter how many times I fast travelled to the home base, Lily would still be there doing the same thing. This speaks volumes of the design shortcuts taken in Rage 2.

It shocks me to think that it took 5 years to make Rage 2 and yet the original remains the better game. I can only hope they do better with Rage 3

Though I am disappointed in rage 2 and it's expensive and extensive micro transactions and day one removed content sold back to users in a AAA full priced 60$ game.

Rage 2 is really only like rage 1 only in visuals and name though 1 wasn't a great game and on launch had many of the technical issues now seen with rage 2 on pc and consoles.
Rage 2 is also not Mad Max which was the devs critically exclaimed but poorly received last game. I loved mad max. So i hoped i would love rage 2. I did enjoy aspects of R2 but like Days Gone ps4 it has launched in a less than desirable state.

There are serious graphic issues on all systems and on consoles textures can look blurry with a frame rate below 30fps...even on pro (super sampled). In 2019 I find this disappointing. Though the lighting is often excellent, as is the world design but your characters (man or woman) are awful.

The sound is acceptable though it can cut out and music is also a little too glitchy and doesn't always play in a dynamic way fitting to the on-screen action .

    Gameplay is good...fun..thrilling!
But can be hit and miss with large open areas of nothing to see or do. Gun-play is cool and creative as expected but there isn't always enough to do with it or long enough to enjoy the best parts of the game.

The missions are whacky and the story is zaney but like the characters ...nothing special.
There can be a fair bit of repetition and grind at times though there is a variety of things to do but spread thinly.

Car combat is not on mad max level of speed or quality. I have no idea why but I guess this is to do with the console limitations. It just isn't that fun though much of what there is has been lifted directly from mad max.

Lastability. No multiplayer right now which makes no sense when you see the micro transactions. It will last about 8 hours on medium difficulty. The AI is nothing special so you can play on hard but it doesn't change the game signififacntly beyond creating an artificial hardness and maybe a few more hours. If you're a completionist then maybe 20 hours but that's a lot of grind and busy work, as side missions aren't anything special or inspired.

Lets talk micro transactions. This is my main issue outside of the many tech and performance problems.

Four different payment choices for the game's premium currency, called RAGE Coins.
You should rage at these coins!

    500 RAGE Coins: $4.99
    1100 RAGE Coins: $9.99
    2,500 RAGE Coins: $19.99
    4,500 RAGE Coins: $34.99

This is a full price single player AAA game and on day one you have desirable content removed and sold back to the user. Its cosmetic for now but the game is based around cosmetics...the look of the guns and cars etc. Looking cool is the gameplay so charging players at full price to buy what they use to earn (in rage 1 and most games) is sleazy.

The premium store is not hidden and you will be aware of it and gently pushed towards them.
It's mostly weapon and vehicle skins but as the main game lacks a wealth of actual content or story I find these transactions harmful to the game.

There are also items available in the store you can purchase. They're are found through the game in the campaign and the idea is to skip the game and buy them early. You can use the in game's currency to pay for these items too but not the cosmetics.
I felt that the game forces you in contact with the micro transactions which is some destiny 2 level of shady stuff.

There is no way for you to get RAGE Coins unless you purchase them from the store. Real money in a AAA full price game. How you feel about that is your choice but it isn't great.

Summary: Rage 2 runs at about 30fps or lower on consoles. It has a well known audio bug which involves restarting the game. The car mechanics are 'off' and there are microtransactions in a game which didn't previously have them.

I'd wait for a sale if you like the genre due to the technical issues and micro transactions.

The shooting feels great, and the 'Nanotrite' super-powers that you can use feel amazing too.

RAGE 2 should not be judged harshly for it's paper thin story, because it never set out to entice you with a story to begin with. It's nothing more than an excuse to put you into different set-pieces and locations where you can shoot stuff. That being said, I always appreciate memorable characters in any form of entertainment and unfortunately for RAGE 2, it falls flat in creating any kind of interest towards the characters or the world that they live in, as a matter of fact, the original RAGE did world building much better and had many more memorable (and frankly, better looking) characters. It's incredibly disappointing and while it did not impact the game-play, the lack of any interesting characters made it very hard for me to care about the people I was supposed to be fighting to protect.

I give RAGE 2 an 7 out of 10 because it is at it's core a fantastic shooter, with combat unlike any other FPS game and has the signature 'id' seal of quality plastered all over it, but the disappointing absence of any character development and a wide-open world that's as big as an ocean but as shallow as a puddle holds this game back from being a truly memorable experience. Seeing Avalanche take part in the development of RAGE 2 was a major red flag for me and it seems like my gut was right.

The biggest issue has to be the open world; it feels bland, lifeless & uninteresting to explore. Traveling feels like a chore with long empty roads and little variation regardless of the biome. Car combat is rare however taking down convoy leaders is the best part! Picking off minions before engaging with the boss on the open road felt fun! Still there isn’t a sense of speed in driving. Aside from locating Arks for new abilities/weapons, I just don’t feel compelled to explore the map (which is rare for me!). The humour is just not funny. Combat wise the game is good, but the other weak aspects just weigh it down too much, it’s just another post-apocalyptic open world game released this year. Expand

Rage 2’s nonsensical story is unbearable, and the unskippable exploration parts are mostly irritating and boring. Luckily, the shooting gameplay is so amazing that it’s easy to forgive these flaws. And while encounters can become repetitive, new weapons and abilities make sure there’s always some fun to be had.
