I really wanted to like Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier. The Apes world is fascinating and a Telltale-esque game set in that universe has all the makings for an amazing experience. While it’s an awesome idea, Last Frontier’s execution just isn’t there. Hopefully Imaginati Studios and 20th Century Fox don’t give up on this idea, though. Video games are iterative and developers learn from their mistakes. While Last Frontier can’t be recommended on its own merits, its concept has potential and shouldn’t be abandoned.

The apes are charismatic and the storyline is passable, but this interactive drama tie-in forgets to find a role to cast the player in.

Since it can be played with multiple people making choices it adds a bit to the "game" part. The story was enjoyable and having multiple people invested in deciding choices really helped pull you in. As a single player experience I think it would loose something, but if you enjoyed the movies it is a must have addition to the lore. Full Review »

At best, it's an animated movie with a 4 possible endings...you choose the next sequence from two outcomes and, unlike even a Telltale game, there are zero skill challenges or puzzles to provide some entertainment.

Very dull and sadly the story is compelling enough to hold your interest. Incredibly disappointing.

For those expecting game play or complexity you will be disappointed. This is nothing more than a movie with the capacity to change some of the direction and ending. With a social element it could prove to be enjoyable with the aggregate of multiple people determining the outcome of actions.

Some of the decisions are challenging both morally and emotionally - this is an interactive movie and as such this is how I rated it.

A butterfly effect, multiple pathway game this is not. There are others that do the mixing of gameplay into the interactive movie genre much better than this and if I was going to compare and rate this as a movie/game hybrid it would have scored much lower but as a pure interactive movie it does well in my opinion.
