It's a great example of an amalgamation of movies as games. Since it can be played with multiple people making choices it adds a bit to the "game" part. The story was enjoyable and having multiple people invested in deciding choices really helped pull you in. As a single player experience I think it would loose something, but if you enjoyed the movies it is a must have addition to the lore.

Some of the decisions are challenging both morally and emotionally - this is an interactive movie and as such this is how I rated it.

A butterfly effect, multiple pathway game this is not. There are others that do the mixing of gameplay into the interactive movie genre much better than this and if I was going to compare and rate this as a movie/game hybrid it would have scored much lower but as a pure interactive movie it does well in my opinion.

Overall, I believe that this decision-based game has been developed with multiplayer in mind and I feel that is where you will get the value for money with this game. I really enjoyed this "game." I am a huge Planet of the Apes fan, and being able to get a new story about this world, and play (an admittedly minor) role in shaping it was pretty awesome. This is similar to a Telltale game. The biggest difference is that there are even less quick-time-events (which I'm ok with). I sat back, experienced the story and added a bit of input. While I understand that this would be offputting to many, it was right up my alley. I like story driven games, and this is even more like a story driven experience than game. Almost like reading a 'Choose Your Own Adventure' book, I'll snatch these type of 'games' every time.

Update: Since I have now Platniumed this game I'll give an additional bit on to my review. I still really like this game. If you are not a completionist, this is a great addition to the PotA mythos. The first playthrough was very engaging and enjoyable. After that it was quite a slog getting through all the various little bits to get to 100%. This doesn't take away from the story and game, but it certainly reduces the replayability.

I'm really a big fan of this franchise, the new one that is. So naturally I bought this. I liked it, seems a tad overpriced but other than that it was definitely cool. I don't remember it being very long though which is definitely a shame. My main take away from this game though, GIVE US MORE PLANET OF THE APES GAMES! And please, make them good.

A thoughtful pick-you-own-post-apocalypse worth taking your time to mull over. However, meaty moments of drama are derailed by rouge banana peels. [Jan 2017, p.91]

Barely interactive, and fails to capture the suspense and nuance of superior games in the genre. [Jan 2018, p.65]
