This game is an interesting take on what an interactive movie experience can be.
The performances and motion capture of this were fantastic. The story itself was good without being ground-breaking. Some of the dialogue choices you are forced to make were genuinely difficult and the overall character interaction was well done.

Planet of the Apes Last Frontier is basically a 4 and a half ohour long interactive movie that tells the story of man vs ape
Youll be playing from boths sides, a tribe struggling to find food for the winter, and a group of survivalists that are visited by ape hunters…
the game essentially plays itself while you make crutial decisions..
There are multiple endings and outcomes here and this game can also be played with up to 4 players locally…
as the story plays out its up to you to stier things in a certain direction, as youre playing both sides.. things can get pretty interesting here..
you can pick sides or you can try for peace.. create conflict.. its all up to you..
though outcomes aren’t always so blck and white, its possible to lose important characters in the story…
the story telling though I felt is just poorly done..
don’t get me wrong the overall story and trying to find a balance or tip the scales in this man vs ape story is enjoyable..
the delivery of this story is just awful, transitions are harsh.. its hard to tell who in the cutscenes is about to make the decision at times… and its also really hard to follow along as it isn’t the telltale style of choose a dialog option…
options are more on the side of, do you agree with this person or that person, youre right or wrong…
so you really have to pay attention to the dialog that at times is just really hard to pay attention to.. its just not interesting for the most part…
and on the ape side it’s a lot of reading though occasionally they’ll just flat out speak English.. making me wonder whats even the point of the sign language and grunting.. just give me some English speaking apes the whole time…
I do love though that you constantly feel like your decisions matter, you feel your life and the life of your tribe or group is at stake, and youll have to make so many in the moment tough calls on whther to attack or shoot in situations or just do nothing, this is definitely an interesting take on the choose your own adventure genre…
but again the delivery of the story here is still pretty rough..
And the ending. .at least for me.. felt pretty abrupt.. and left me feeling pretty disappointed with no payoff..
I give Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier
    a 6/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. One of the most frustrating games I’ve ever played. Has the potential to be something great but nearly every choice you make is ignored by other characters or your own. Make a choice and after ten minutes the main character has a different opinion and you aren’t allowed to change anything. Terribly lazy writing killed this game and I’m glad that I bought it while on sale. Expand

A thoughtful pick-you-own-post-apocalypse worth taking your time to mull over. However, meaty moments of drama are derailed by rouge banana peels. [Jan 2017, p.91]

Barely interactive, and fails to capture the suspense and nuance of superior games in the genre. [Jan 2018, p.65]
