Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier creates an engaging narrative that makes both the humans’ and apes’ predicaments and actions understandable, even when violence is involved. I truly cared about characters on both sides of the conflict, which made for some tough decisions when the two sides would clash. The occasional choppiness and short ending scenes are more minor issues, and they don't hamper the overall experience in any significant way. The game may lack what many would consider to be real gameplay, but the immersive storytelling and a few first-rate performances more than make up for such criticisms in a game such as this.

Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier comes up short in almost every area, except in the motion capture side of proceedings and the great looking characters. It fails to draw you in to its 2-3 hour length, whether that’s due to the lacklustre ‘gameplay’, the drab story, having very little influence on how it plays out, or simply because of the issues plaguing the technical side of the game.

Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier’s core functionality relays little more than a choice-driven interactive experience. We’ve seen this formula many times this gen, and although it can indeed work when effort has not been spared, here, it just doesn’t add up. Indeed, Last Frontier offers a decent multi-branching plot, but its hands-off approach and its poor production value holds it back, tremendously.

Really fun idea executed poorly. Dig the choose your own adventure course with so many different options, but none seem gratifying. Would loveReally fun idea executed poorly. I really enjoyed what they delivered to me when it came to the story because it kept me invested throughout and was well done on the whole.I really enjoyed what they delivered to me when it came to the story because it kept me invested throughout and was well done on the whole. The presentation side of the game really made the story come alive and both the visuals and sound design combined together extremely well. There are multiple endings for you to obtain which means the game has a decent amount of replaybility for you to get to grips with. I liked the variety of choices that were made available to me because it gave of the impression that I was tailoring my own story. Unfortunately the game suffers with quite a few technichal issues and this does hold the game back somewhat. There just isn’t much to do when it comes to the gameplay side of things and this does mean that things do start to become a little tedious at times.
Whilst I liked the idea of having multiple endings getting to the different endings didn’t fill me with joy and in the end I did become bored. Does Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier do enough to get a recommendation from me? I’m a big fan of the Planet of the Apes franchise and even though I’ve heard a few bad things about the game from my friends who’ve played it on the PS4 I was still very much interested to try it out and in a way I’m glad I did. Don’t get me wrong Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier is far from perfect and it does have a few issues, but in the end I did get more enjoyable moments than annoying moments out of it. Without a doubt the main aspect that made this game enjoyable was its story and if it didn’t suffer with the shortcomings it has then the story alone would’ve made it quite easy for me to give the game a higher score. That being said some of the issues do lower the score because they do impact on your time with the game and that’s a shame because there’s potential here and this potential means the game does just enough to get a small recommendation from me.
