There are only two things I can say:

    1) Do you want to play an actual RPG, with an engaging storyline? Take the Witcher 3. 2)Do you want to play an open world game with different things to do in it? Take GTA 5. So far, ME:A shows very little innovation in it's actual gameplay. It is the same schtick again: Go explore and then go full shooting gallery with a cover based system. Oh

So far, ME:A shows very little innovation in it's actual gameplay. It is the same schtick again: Go explore and then go full shooting gallery with a cover based system. Oh okay, now you can also slide/rocket jump into and out of cover, but essentially it is the same. The gun is still the meat and bones of this title and with a budget of 40.000.000 dollars this shouldn't be the case. Another bugbear of this is the ever slow retardation of the dialogue system. There's the wheel, which now uses even less words and instead uses little symbols and keywords.

Welcome to (BIOWARE) RPGS in 2017.

It's pretty solid third-person corridor shooting. The cover shooting works surprisingly well, and doesn't constantly trip you up the way it does in most games like this. That said, it's ultimately just alright. If you liked the shooting and upgrade system in the original Mass Effect, you'll like this, because it's a more polished version. But it doesn't raise the game up on its own, nor does it make up for other flaws.

If you're not sure whether or not to buy this game, don't use the combat and character upgrade system as the deciding vote. It's good enough to keep you interested, but if you don't like the surrounding elements, it isn't enough.

It’s hard not to be emotional about Mass Effect: Andromeda. You can see this from the huge number of negative user reviews. Although Mass Effect 2 did not live up to the sci fi chops of Mass Effect 1, and Mass Effect 3 did not live up to the intensely personal and emotionally engaging Mass Effect 2, the original trilogy remains a landmark Bioware effort. Expectations were high.

The 0-10 scale is obviously flawed. But I cannot bring myself to review this game anything lower than a 6. It has its problems, but within the American grading system, 0-5 signifies a failing (non)effort. Despite some noticeable bugs, I did not encounter any game-breaking ones (your mileage may vary). ME: A was rushed, but it is not a literally broken game.

This is not high praise. In fact, ME: A is a bad game, and if you value your time, you should not play it. When I play an RPG, first and foremost I expect some engagement with the story and the characters. An RPG is not only about its systems; its about role-playing within the given constraints of the game. And I cannot role-play with ME: A’s clichéd, uninteresting plot and terrible, forgettable cast. Even if you look over the problems with animation (it’s truly horrible, watch on Youtube for entertainment) and voice-work (the talent were phoning it in); the writing itself is untenable. There is no forward momentum. The gameplay systems function in a workmanship manner independent of context: combat is fine, the quest system sets up an addictive gameplay loop. But there is no soul to the game that makes you want to engage with these systems. And that is ME: A’s major sin.

Some things worth noting:

-- Abosolute AMATEUR character animations, faces look flat and dull, often conveying the wrong emotion for the conversation occurring, weird walks, runs, and movement in general.
-- Fanfic tier dialogue. Bad. Just... How can I even get this across? It plays out like some 13 year old's fantasy.
-- Glitches. A lot of them. Characters flash in and out of frame, objectives will never resolve, and plenty of movement related bugs.
-- The new aliens are just.. Boring and uninspired. Absolutely no sense of wonder and discovery with them, and the alien races brought with you are just rehashed stereotypes of whats already been established in the previous games.

Bioware brought this flop on its self, and the consequences from it will be well deserved. Don't bother getting this unless you find it in a discount bin, and want a good laugh.

    This deserves no Mass Affection.

    I keep it short:

ME1, ME2, ME3 are about story, characters, species and relations between the latter two.

ME Andromeda tries to be the same, but it also includes new gameplay layers due to its focus on an outdated openworld concept. The result: It fails at both ME's core elements (see above) and at being a great openworld game.

Even if you don't look at this game as a Mass Effect title it still sucks. So let's get too the negatives

-Bad writing: Unlike the trilogy (which had some bad moments but it never was all the time) this game has terrible writing, Some of the dialogue in this game will make you cringe on how bad it is.

-Glitchy: This game isnt as glitchy as say Sonic 06 but this game really is filled with quite a few

-Terrible story and choices: Mass Effect is widely regarded for your choices and the story, that's what made the games so memorable and high replay value, However this game abandons all of that for a combat focused approach and also doesn't even try to excite you or build up the story.

-AI: Earlier i mentioned the combat was alright, well here's the thing that ruins that, the AI is retarded and also glitchy so it ends up ruining the combat because some enemy is being weird.

-UI: Oh yeah quick note, this game has a terrible UI system and it bothers the combat.

-Length: The game's main story took a new Mass Effect fan 15 hours to complete, Let me explain this to you, Resident Evil 7 a game that is a metroidvania and also not open world took people 12-15 hours and even that game had good pacing up until the end, So yeah that's sad. Now if you're looking to do side missions sadly none are really good and there's not that many as the original trilogy because the development team tried quality over quantity but failed at that and screwed up at both so you're probably gonna get bored trying to 100% this game, And lastly as ill mention with story this game doesn't have a high replay value (maybe twice) so unfortunately you're not in for the many wonderful hours like the original trilogy offered.

-No memorable characters: If you take this game serious (and are not making memes of it) there really isnt any memorable characters.

-Face Animations: Yes the biggest complaint we've all heard, Honest to god it feels like Bioware hasn't even seen normal conversations because they feel so weird and awkward. I mean even Mass Effect 1 which came out 10 years ago had better animations.

So there's many things i missed however these were the majors flaws because i couldn't fit all the minors ones really, If you're getting this game you better get it really cheap because honestly it's not even worth it. The only good thing i could see to come out of this game is multiplayer but with the path it is on right now i doubt that will be anything, And to end this review even if Bioware and EA managed to fix the glitches, animations, and AI this game would still not be worth it because of the fact we live in a world that has games like Breath Of The Wild and the Witcher 3 which have set the bar high, and if Bioware isnt willing to step up their game they should just drop the IP.

Much has been made about the game's weak voice acting (which is true) and the bizarre, awful facial animations and general character portrayals (which is also true), but as much as I wanted to really get into ME:A, the technical problems this game has right now are just making it a hot f-in mess, and I'm just being brutally honest. The texture problems, characters morphing in and out of scenery, team mates getting stuck, important dialog that doesn't trigger until 1-2 minutes AFTER the important thing happened you needed the dialog for, and your character randomly freezing in mid-action are just a handful of what is wrong with this game. With a patch or two, ME:A could be a generally solid sci-adventure. But, man..I am sincerely disappointed. This goes beyond just the aesthetic problems; personally I can live with the weirdly bad animations and such...but the game has to be PLAYABLE and the second time I got killed because I literally lost control of my character while the game merrily kept going I just really had to be intellectually honest: this game not only needed more time in the oven, but was released in an inexcusable state. Mass Effect Andromeda falls short of its predecessors, but it's still a competently executed open-world action RPG with an interesting world and tons of quests to complete. Its biggest shame is that it doesn't make better use of its setting, opting instead to go with more of the same. Hopefully BioWare will be more ambitious when it comes time for the inevitable sequel

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.
