This game was awful, after the fiasco of the 3rd game, you would think Bioware would learn, but no, they double downed on there stupidity and laziness, wow Bioware, how the mighty have fallen. "I'm sorry my face is tired"

Hi. Im so confuse about this game, just don’t play it if you are a mass effect lover. However, it’s not a terrible game, but very bad Mass effect.

There's very few redeeming features here - easily the worst game in the series.

People are focused on all the wrong problems with this game. The facial modelling and expressions are really not the problem here, it's a minor-minor problem really. Combat:
The combat is super weak and totally unsatisfying. The cover system is more sloppy than it's predecessors, and doesn't viscerally lock you in place. Compared to other cover based shooters, this game is sub-par by far. On harder difficulties the enemies can melt you whenever you accidentally break cover, which is super easy to do. Your NPC companions are best used as distracting meat shields while you dish all the damage. Combat is by the numbers with cover more of an annoyance than anything else. Encounters usually boil down to dying once or twice until it randomly plays better. The player just doesn't have control over the battles. Cheese tactics reign supreme here. Just hide and force the AI to chase you down a corridor. The combat is just horsesh**. Coupled with inexplicably abysmal frame rates in combat I'm just not sure what EA intended to push out the door. (I'm running a GTX 1070)

This game amounts to nothing more than minimum viable fan service. ALL you have to do to make a successful ME game is take the best parts of ME 1&2 and turn that into a exploration game. Stop trying to make this an epic cinematic experience. These story lines are all used up. I don't need a super villain, just create a survival type game where I get to explore space, uncover mysteries, and upgrade my gear, base, ships etc...

Barely 10 hours in a have a folder brimming with random moments and characters who look they're wearing someone else's skin. Last night the game got some broken and confused I had to reload in order to continue with mission (only after wasting about an hour trying to find out why I couldn't progress).

You could compare this game to the previous in the series, some won't think that's fair and I would agree you have to take this on it's own merits but it's worth noting that almost everything the previous titles did that is present here... They did it much better.

This is fairly dull story, you'll care very little for the characters and the ultimate conclusion (if you can call it that) is not particularly satisfying... The controls are very clunky, load times are slow and it is not pretty by current gen standards. The music is better than I think most give it credit for but it is still too muted and not as epic as it could be. The game feels like lots of people had some great ideas but went off into separate rooms and developed them alone then tried and ultimately failed to put them all together.

Finally... The argument from many is that all these things will be patched and we'll have a shiny piece of brilliance once finished... But the point is this game was released, sold for £50+ and so should work off the bat. The other is "making games is hard, how can they expect to find all the bugs?", were it only a few bugs I don't think anyone would be that rattled... It's the sheer lack of polish that is offensive, as is if they didn't even bother to test it or simply didn't care - oh, and plenty of other developers make games of this scale without even a fraction of the issues or freakish looking characters.

I played this for twenty-two hours before I encountered finicky save files. If I load from the menu, I get stuck at the loading menu perpetually. If I try to load from autosaves sometimes, none of them will load. Now, I've run into my latest manual save corrupting.

Mass Effect 2 remains my favorite gaming experience. I replayed each of the original trilogy at least three times each. I love them so much. But I was turned away by this title's bad press for a whole year. Finally giving it a chance now, I am sorely disappointed. I keep having to convince myself to return to the last half hour or hour before the corrupted saves. I keep having to literally force myself awake during NPC dialogue and during the long drives in the Nomad between lame quest #1 and lame quest #2. I loved Dragon Age: Origins so much, but Inquisition was suuuuuch a drag with all of those soulless fetch quests and that's what we get here. Having to do the same ones again??

I might have given this a higher rating if EA hadn't declared that they're done with the title. I expect no patch. And when [read: "if"] I get to the end and discover what all the fuss is about this missing Quarian Ark?? Why would I want to do this to myself? Please do not support this developer. Zeschuk and Muzyka are gone. The days of Jade Empire and KotOR and DA:O are sooo far behind us.

The game is fun but when in first 20% of it you have bugs where you cant finish quests, and also cant move back or forward as doors wont open at certain point then i would call it unplayable and a scam. None of it will be fixed as nobody is working on it. Enjoyed it but ultimately shame on you EA and Bioware.

My review was taken down for stating that the male character looks like your typical "man" of today, emasculated and queer looking. Everyone else is focusing on how ugly the women are and that does not get taken down. The real thing that they don't want you to realize and wake up from is that men should not look like the main male character from this game.

The game is beyond frustration to play half the time your in the menu system trying to look at your map and then go through the quest log to select a quest and to follow it through, but what they don't tell you is if you talk to any other character and if they give you a quest, it will knock your current track quest out and not even track the new quest that was just giving, it just goes blank. Then you have to repeat the god damn process of all over again, just to track the quest you originally wanted to complete. ITS NOT WORTH IT EVEN IF IT WAS FREE STAY CLEAR 2 OUTOF 10

NOT ONCE HAVE I BEEN ABLE TO SOLVE A PROBLEM IN TRIVIAL CONVERSATION WITH A PISTOL OR A RIGHT HOOK, ALL THE WHILE HAVING MORE SUITABLE BUT PACIFYING OPTIONS. WTF! This is not Mass Effect.

    3. This game does not make you feel BA like the other Mass Effects. Electronic Arts jacks up everything they touch. The other Mass Effects made you feel gritty and tough. This game makes you feel like you are a model of civility and wussification. It sucks.

    4. The characters have no depth. Whoever wrote their dialog is an imbecile and needs to find a bridge to jump off of (JK!). All the characters and Ryder are terrible. Is EA like Disney, slowly ruining Mass Effect like Disney is ruining Star Wars? EA is one of the worse game developers there is. Please listen to your suckiness, because you deserve it.

    5. The game lacks creativity in every place where it matters. Sure, it looks great but it has no meat and potatoes.

    6. The quests are not understandable half the time and so quickly blerted out that they are near to incomprehensible. Look I am not an automaton of action and doing, SLOW DOWN YOU IDIOTS and focus on storytelling. Tell your corporate boss to stick it in his backside if they complain about it not having enough action. We need time to develop bonds and understanding of character situations before jumping off into the next bullship busy crap.

    Advise for EA:
Fire everyone, burn this game to the ground, forget it, and start over.
    You suck. Get better.
I wanted so badly for this game to be good. Mass Effect is my new Star Wars and you are jacked it up too.

When I had played 10hrs I didn't want to play anymore. But I kept going, hoping that things would pick up but they didn't. I just couldn't believe what bioware had done to my all time favorite game series. Whoever decided that their "flagship" title should be handled by a support studio and some of it should be outsourced completely, is a f***ing idiot! When EA came along everything started to go downhill. Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire and ME1. Every game bioware made before EA meddling was a masterpiece, if not it came deam close.

I don't mind few bugs here and there. There's going to be bugs in a huge game like this. It can't be avoided, but this stuttering mess is not a triple A game. We should get a refund, this game is obviously not finished. If I bought a car and it had this much problems I could get a new one from the dealership because of the warranty.

So the gameplay.. sigh.. no tactical pausing, can't give orders to squadmates to use powers to set up combos, only 3 skills to use?!? Cover system sucks.

I was actually going to write a lot longer and in depth review but I can't keep going. There is just too much wrong with this game, I give up. I do solemnly swear I will not buy another bioware game until they break free from the grip of the horrible abomination that is EA.

As a reviewer I try to provide enough information to fellow gamers to stay away from horrible titles and to try out games that are actually good. This time I can't provide more than my own die hard ME1 fan opinion. I would not touch this with a 10 foot pole.

Though nothing is innovative when I say nothing is innovative nothing is new! and from my perspective that the game isn't developed by BIoware but by some interns who got their idea from potatoes because your Pathfinder looks like a potato specially Sarah Ryder. Alright! less ranting and more to technicalities of the game.

Graphics in this game is very bad indeed its really bad that makes my eyes experienced a low stance katana katana slash from William. Its poorly designed that you won't admire it. In Final Fantasy XV despite of its under developed game play and customization the graphics are really top notched.

Gameplay is the same nothing is innovative if they call jet pack is something innovative then you guys are wrong jet pack feature is already seen in various shooter games and oh dashing mid air looks cool? I bought a game with nothing new Metal Gear Solid V is even better than this.

Story is by far the worst in the Mass Effect Trilogy heck its even worst than Nioh. Dialogues are poorly written that it makes the character sounds like a Persona high school student even the narrative in the cutscenes, In comparison to a Yoko Taro story telling this is rubbish like how many team does Bioware/EA has to write a story?

What genre first comes to mind when you think of the original Mass Effect (2 and 3 to a lesser extent)? RPG. This is not. This is Mass Effect: Battlefront. The decisions you make feel petty in the grand scheme of things and you cannot control your squad mates in any meaningful way. This feels more like a single player shooter MMO with some RPG elements thrown in.

If it is trying to be an RPG, characters, story, and dialog are paramount. All fall flat here. RPG players live in a post-Undertale society and expect intelligent, emotional writing. This feels as though it was oriented towards elementary and highschoolers, which seems strange for a mature-rated game. You are supposed to feel immersed in an RPG - you are supposed to embody the protagonist. Regardless of what gender you choose, you feel like a fool with the logic, choices, and writing in the game. I really kept wondering if anyone on the writing team had ever stepped foot in a university. If you are working for one of the most beloved RPG gaming companies, you should be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in your field. This feels as though BioWare hired temps or used an evolutionary algorithm to write this. Think of the most cliché game or movie you have seen, this is what you get here.

Graphics; where do I begin? Again, if you are hired by a "prestigious" company like BioWare to make games, you should be an SME in your field. This game is littered with wonky looking characters and models. This game looks outdated for Mass Effect 1. The human models are anthropomorphically inaccurate. The humans seem more similar to australopithecine rather than homo-sapiens-sapiens. We live in a post-Witcher 3 world, we as Millennial and younger consumers would rather have you take your time and make an incredible game than try to rush (not sure how five years is rushed) something to market. The cultural landscape has changed, we are not Baby-Boomers or gen-Xer's trying to keep up with the Joneses, we prefer quality over quantity.

If you are looking for an average shooter with some decent scenery, I still would not recommend this. EA and BioWare do not live in a vacuum; they have to compete in the market with other companies whom have made much better RPG shooters (Borderlands, for example). I would not recommend supporting BioWare or its publisher (meaning, do not spend your hard-earned cash on their products) until they can make a competent game.

Since Mass Effect 2 and 3, BioWare made the decision to move away from what had been their primary demographic, RPG players, to more mainstream individuals that prefer generic shooters, sports, and action games - and this even lets them down. Nothing special to see here in any form. Save your money for a company and a game that deserves your support, such as Horizon Zero Dawn, Breath of the Wild, Nier Automata, or Persona 5.

Even if you don't look at this game as a Mass Effect title it still sucks. So let's get too the negatives

-Bad writing: Unlike the trilogy (which had some bad moments but it never was all the time) this game has terrible writing, Some of the dialogue in this game will make you cringe on how bad it is.

-Glitchy: This game isnt as glitchy as say Sonic 06 but this game really is filled with quite a few

-Terrible story and choices: Mass Effect is widely regarded for your choices and the story, that's what made the games so memorable and high replay value, However this game abandons all of that for a combat focused approach and also doesn't even try to excite you or build up the story.

-AI: Earlier i mentioned the combat was alright, well here's the thing that ruins that, the AI is retarded and also glitchy so it ends up ruining the combat because some enemy is being weird.

-UI: Oh yeah quick note, this game has a terrible UI system and it bothers the combat.

-Length: The game's main story took a new Mass Effect fan 15 hours to complete, Let me explain this to you, Resident Evil 7 a game that is a metroidvania and also not open world took people 12-15 hours and even that game had good pacing up until the end, So yeah that's sad. Now if you're looking to do side missions sadly none are really good and there's not that many as the original trilogy because the development team tried quality over quantity but failed at that and screwed up at both so you're probably gonna get bored trying to 100% this game, And lastly as ill mention with story this game doesn't have a high replay value (maybe twice) so unfortunately you're not in for the many wonderful hours like the original trilogy offered.

-No memorable characters: If you take this game serious (and are not making memes of it) there really isnt any memorable characters.

-Face Animations: Yes the biggest complaint we've all heard, Honest to god it feels like Bioware hasn't even seen normal conversations because they feel so weird and awkward. I mean even Mass Effect 1 which came out 10 years ago had better animations.

So there's many things i missed however these were the majors flaws because i couldn't fit all the minors ones really, If you're getting this game you better get it really cheap because honestly it's not even worth it. The only good thing i could see to come out of this game is multiplayer but with the path it is on right now i doubt that will be anything, And to end this review even if Bioware and EA managed to fix the glitches, animations, and AI this game would still not be worth it because of the fact we live in a world that has games like Breath Of The Wild and the Witcher 3 which have set the bar high, and if Bioware isnt willing to step up their game they should just drop the IP.

Game glitches often. It has bad animations. Story is not the best. Enemies shoot through walls. Where did all the money go for this game? This is terrible. Bio Ware Took a step backwards in video game evolution with this game. Defiantly not worth $60. Waste of money.

This might not be a deal breaker for some, but I'm afraid that it is for me.
I like immersion, I like feeling part of a strange, new world while escaping the boring old one.
However, every time I spoke to a npc that look like it was a resident of the uncanny valley or I heard a piece of dialog that sounded like it was read from the back of a cereal box, I was zapped right out the world and back to my own.
I believe this game is a failure as a role-playing game, more so when you account the amount of money, time and effort that went into it.
I now have to accept that the bioware that I knew and loved is dead,
I wanted so hard for this game to be good but I cannot in good faith recommend it to RPG fans.
I suppose if you want something to pass the time and aren't too fussy about what you play, it does have good combat and nice scenic visuals but prepared to be extremely disappointed if you expect anything more.

That was why Mass Effect 3 was so hated by many because your choices didn't matter at the end. It was the same. It seems like that with this game. It doesn't matter how much I play, I don't feel like any choices make a difference to the story line. I always like the Paragon and Renegade system which allowed you to make choices if you was good, or bad, enough to make. Now you just give cookie cutter remarks to choices already made. Unfortunately BioWare has gone so far from what made Mass Effect 2 and amazing game and what made Mass Effect 3 good (excluding the ending), to the point that I had to give this rating. Extremely disappointing. How could a game in 2017 have such a limited and genuinely ugly Character Creator. You cannot custom a Character, only slightly alter a preset of very limited skin tones and face shapes. How they could get something so integral to an RPG so very wrong, baffles the mind.

Andromeda is not worthy of being called a Mass Effect game. It does the series a disservice by being just mediocre and 'just passable' in every single aspect. This game is not something one would expect from the pioneers and innovators of the cinematic storytelling genre who used to set the bar. It fails to live up to Bioware's previous releases, let alone surpass them.

-Story is weak and generic, with badly spaced, disjointed narrative. Big chunks of the Mass effect lore has been conveniently swept under the rug, and retcons are everywhere.

-Protagonist portrayal- they tried to borrow the 'personality' concept from Dragon Age 2 where your character could be diplomatic, agressive or sarcastic. Only this time around the character can be 'casual
, ' professional', 'logical' or ' emotional'. Big problem with that? They all amount to same thing, with a very slight variation. Your character won't tell anyone to 'shove off', even if the situation truly warrants it. He/She will put up with anyone's **** politely, no matter the personality path you choosing. There is no confrontational options, neither with npc, quest givers, or your companions.

-Characters (usually the studio's strength) are bland and uninspired. That they unloading their whole story upfront, instead of developing over time just highlights the problem. You don't get to learn anything nuanced about their character, there simply isn't anything they won't tell you the first couple times you talk to them.

-Combat is horrible: they went from real time with pause and full squad control to controlling your own character only with super minimal ability load out (3 abilities at a time with convoluted profile switching is a crime). Your squad are just bots who tag along and do their own thing.

-Exploration - the vistas are the only positive thing about this game. The quest that tied to the exploration however can be summed up by scan, scan, scan some more and fetch ad naseum. Oh, and repeat exactly same thing on the next planet. If you thought Dragon Age inquisition had it bad with filler quests, prepare for something even worse.

-Music score - minimalistic where present, absent in most of the scenes. A big let down compared to epic scores of their previous games.

-Graphics - planetary visuals are the only good thing about it. Character detailing suffered a MAJOR step back from ME2 and ME3. There is one SINGLE asari head that's shared across the whole asari population, same with Salarians. Turians look like someone forgot to give them facial texture, nevermind the colony markings. I guess the Krogan look the least offensive out of the bunch, and that's not saying much. They looked better in ME2 and 3, just as did all other alien species. Humans took a beating too, btw. It's not just the aliens.

Game Issues: Inability to save during priority missions. Horrendous animations. Gamebreaking bugs. Recycled alien life, bosses and puzzles from planet to planet. Characters referencing events that have not happened yet, often spoiling the story. Banter glitches where the whole party is silent for the duration of 2 planets and then exploding with banter only to go mute again the next planet around.

I do not recommend this game to anyone.

They never even address the third game which was one of the worst cliff-hangers in gaming history.

The only reason I'm rating this game above a 0 is that I was able to sit through it in it's entirety and the game is playable. Buggy, boring, bland, and soul-less, but playable.

After beating ME:A I can’t think of anything that sticks out as unique, interesting or unpredictable in this game. The story is unremarkable, the new race is just an uninteresting over-designed mess, ham-fisted dialogue and lazy animations distract from what little story is interesting, and then there’s the faces, my god the faces...what have you done Bioware, what happened to everyone’s chins and why do so many women have 5’oclok shadows is that a side effect of whatever chemical they put in their hair to make it glow in the dark?
Overall the game feels like several steps back from ME:3, and comes across as unfinished or lazily done in many places. The story is just rehashing of previous Mass Effect plots haphazardly thrown together to make a story that has no other point other than to lead into a sequel or future DLC. If you’re thinking you might want this game wait, play ME:3 if you haven’t and get ME:A when it’s on sale for 9.99 and hopefully this mess will be a bit more sorted out by then.

Not going to mention animations, cause that has probably been typed to death, (for real, they're terrible.) but what's more tragic is the forgettable story and dialogue! There is hardly any thread of a decent story line in Andromeda, the characters are pretty linear, and the dialogue comes off as fan fiction at times. I, personally, can look the other way with small amount of bad animations, but for a Bioware game with a terrible story, dialogue (plenty of examples, Liam's banter about shooting a guy in the face in the earlier scene, Sara Ryder talking to Suvi, etc.) , and characters? That's tragic. After finishing the game, I got the sense that it was like the rough draft of the ideas, made it to the final version, instead of really crafting a narrative that isn't as cheesy as what is in the game. That can't be patched up. Who came up with the idea of the mini games being sudoku puzzles? Really? Missions and side quests turned out to be small to major fetch, scan quests. Speaking about mission quests, talk about not feeling threatened by the Kett. Pretty boring bad guys.

What was good about the game was the fighting mechanics. If they focused a lot of time and effort in the story, dialogue, and characters, as they did with the combat this would have been a great addition to the Mass Effect universe. But no matter how many patches and updates they put in (which they should have delayed it to fix the fixable bugs and glitches before launch) they can't fix what really is broken in this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a disaster. Bought this really cheap once all the patches were released to give it a try. First step, try and make a female Ryder that actually looked like her facial model instead of that horrifying thing they made as default. The character creation was a pile of poodoo to work with, cruddy sliders but finally managed to make her and her brother look good enough to look at for a gameplay.

The scanner is one of the worst additions to the game ever, you literally have to use it in every area you walk through to find data pieces, codex and story mission info, you can't find it or access it without it. Jetpacks are stupid, it's only included because it's inevitable that you'll be stuck in different parts of the map and need it to get out.

I read that the game was initially supposed to be Papa Ryder as the main character. At least that would have made sense as he was an N7 and had the proper training to lead this motley expedition as Pathfinder. When he dies, in no way should the Ryder kid be the next up to take over, you're literally just on this trip because you're traveling with your father as a family not because you've had special training to take over. He had a second in command, who had every right to be angry that kid Ryder took over as Pathfinder because you're completely incompetent in comparison!

The people are still ugly to look at, actually found a hideous troll looking lady on the bridge of the ship and was ready to start making a scrapbook for the most horrifyingly looking people that I could find in the game. There is no background noises on the ship or on the planet or any ambient music, it's so eerie to wander in the utter silence and not even have your people talking. The worst part is that I'm pretty sure I could take any ugly looking animations if only there was a really good story to move me along but guess what? There's not even that. It's not even semi-decent where I could play through the end and be like well that was worth one playthrough. Nope, I kept falling asleep during this game and felt nothing pushing me to finish.

It makes me angry that Bioware was destroyed in such a way. Anyone who thinks that Mass Effect isn't dead and there's still hope is kidding themselves. EA wouldn't even allow DLC to be released for this game and shut down the whole studio who was working on it. What does that tell you? Avoid this game if you value your time and energy.

Bought it a year after everyone complained about it thinking "people are probably exaggerating, maybe it's good but cause it's not Shep and the team... bla bla bla" BUT NO! It is terrible.
    Now for the constructive part;
the game play is smooth, the actions switch in a smooth manner and there are things added and improved (as expected). The worlds are beautifully rendered and in some case even magical.
However, with worlds so beautiful you'd expect pleasant facial animation and better than 2012, but no, it looks like they just look so stiff and unexpressive. HELL the first mass effect looks way superior compared to this animation! (I do believe they have aged pretty nicely though). And the glitching, the glitching! As I said, I bought this game 1 YEAR after the release so patches had been created and still had characters disappear and never to be found during battle, people speaking to the wall and me replying to their backs, tired faces with the characters telling me how they felt cause I couldn't tell, got killed and the game kept om going without me while the game over was hovering over my character's body and wouldn't transition to the loading screen (kept it on to see if my squad mates killed the boss and I'd revive for kick but nothing), etc.
The story is boring, I never feel the urgency of the story nor the investment in the characters, they could all be Kaiden or Ashley for what I care. The character conflict is always short lived or their relationship among each other (Ryder and father for example) are odd at best and very detached. I understand having a distant parent in the story, but there is a distant father or a apathetic character that has no feeling of any sort with no explanation with no sense of the characters being connected or somehow disconnected. Bioware used to be able to tell amazing stories in it's golden age, where did they go? This story line feels like a Buch of ideas glued together, which I understand its basically what happened behind the scenes and it shows.
Combat and enemies are always the same (it's not 2007 anymore you have the tea now) and for how beautiful certain worlds are, they are just too big and there is way too much exploration which takes away from the story and it has you forget what you are doing and why you go in that position to start with. The colours are over saturated and it doesn't make it feel like it belongs in the ME universe. I personally prefer having certain abilities and classes from the start and get better at them, but here you can change your class and abilities whenever... not a fan; you are trying to grow with your character and focus on certain abilities and get better at them, but this system makes your character feel like a Jack of all trades, you know all but KNOW none.
If it had been a game in and of itself and was mainly exploration based, sure, whatever, the beauty of the worlds and mystery of them could have saved it a little, but to be inserted in the mass effect universe and receive this it was basically DOA.
However, because I hate the original Sarah Ryder, I created my own and, though there were few options, I created a cool and pretty character + brother and the autogenerated father was a silver fox that I would of personally romance if had the chance and understood why Cora was pissed he died (even if that was short lived).

It's a lengthy review, but this game is so bad that just saying it's garbage is unfair to the team that I understand was pushed and shoved during development and had to release a game that was broken from pre production. I would have given it a 1, but because the devs were under pressure a pity point is earned.

Gameplay is ok, but a massive amount of work were placed to create all dialogs and lore but most ware created just to fill blanks without any creativity. Cinematics are bad. Mechanics of dialogs are bad - it sound like a "FRIENDS" without lough track - speaking, pause, speaking and all lack any emotions, and if there are some emotions, bad animation makes it look bad. It's very sad to see Bioware fall as far as it has. The signs of this company going in the wrong direction have been apparent since Dragon Age: Origins, but as a long time fan this is the nail in the coffin.

Because it takes all kinds of effort to balance different classes, and we know that with companies, "effort" means "costing more money".
    -
The infamous animations. I won't say much about them, because they've already turned the game into the biggest meme-generator of 2017.
    -
The writing. It's simply abysmal. It's very hard to get immersed in this supposedly story/character driven game, when the words that come out of everybody's "tired" faces are nonsensical and sometimes worse than fanfiction. What HAPPENED with the writing? Also, the whole setting/story is boring and uninspiring.
    -
The characters. Well, I'm not going to go into them much, because I know that this could also be considered a subjective thing. For me though, they are terrible. "Bethesda-facepalm" level terrible.
    - - -
The sound design, in particular some of the alien voices. It's like they didn't even try.
Also, the "music" some times was atrocious. Like in the Vortex. So generic and annoying.
    - - -
Bugs (some gamebreaking), glitches and overall lack of polish of nearly any aspect, which leads to the conclusion of a rushed product. A rushed 5-year-in-development product, if that is possible.
    - - -
And then we get to the character creator. A very huge thing in these kinds of games. So what's going on with it? Well, basically it has been completely butcherred, to the point that for the most part it's non-existent. It's more like character "selector".
    - - -
We are talking Ubisoft's The Division level of laziness here. You have 9 scanned heads for each gender, of wich you can pretty much change only the hair, make up (and the choices are ridiculous btw), and a very limited skin tone slider (more on that later). There is virtually NO customization of the faces. You know, one of THE BIGGEST things these games, creating your own avatar. People like me spend many hours in character creators, tweaking.

We all know that the CC in the previous games were never that great. But at least you could create unique and different faces. Changing different fetaures like eye shape, nose shape, mouth shape, brow shape and so on. In andromeda, you can't do that. Since the heads are scanned (although as a character artist myself, I can think of several ways to create the system in a way, that this would be non-issue). Which is simply sad. They didn't put any effort into this very essential aspect of the game.

To be honest, I did not expected this to happen. The last remaing RPG feature of this game, to simply be crapped on to such extend. It's honestly the deal breaker for me. Not to mention the fact that Bioware lied, when they said that they will not change the CC much from DAI. But I guess the only thing that they didn't change (or dumbed down), was the color wheel for some things like eye color and makeup.
    - - -
Now I'm not going much into the obvious "Political Correctness" and SJW agendas, splashed all over this game, one of which is the uglification of the females. I can get geeky and nit picky with this one till we all get "asari" in the face, but I won't. There is more about it around the web.

But the thing that goes too far, is the lack of white character presets for the females. Aside from most likely catering to regressive feminists like Sarkeesian, the fact there are purposefully no white presets is simply a disgrace.

Not because I'm offended personally or whatever **** the apologists will throw at me, but because when you do something like that, you are intentionally igniting/creating racial tension amongst the community. This to me is so wrong, so sick and twisted, that I have no words for it. This thing alone is enough of a reason to boycott the studio and the publisher. And when you see things like this happening, some people like Manveer Heir start to make a whole lot more sense.

    CONCLUSION

A game created by EA and Bio ware with glitches, poor dialogue, poor graphic animations... beaten by a few poles making Witcher 3. First four hours are boring and it becomes apparent that missions are repetitive. Very reminiscent of Dragon Age 2 with its 12 areas and 4 different mission types. For an Indie game it would be passable with good combat. Everything else is sub par.

Forget about the technical problems. The game is worse than average. Indie RPGS, action RPGS, Sci-fi _____ (insert whatever game) are better than this. Pointless dialogs, shoved in. Uninteresting characters, boring quests, boring crew, boring galaxy. The villain is a joke. Immersion: scraping paint from a rusty bucket is more immersive and fun.

I was not on board the hate train before I got my hands on the game to see for myself. Unfortunately the early reports are true. The animations look like they are from 1998. Sorry, but this is just not acceptable in 2017. The eyes look like plastic, the animations are stiff and the facial expressions are creepy. Obviously there was no Motion Capture used to create the animations. Also II was not on board the hate train before I got my hands on the game to see for myself. Also I encounter a lot of bugs like false animations, enemies falling through the environment. The slow start of the game leads to a more interesting experience. However, you cannot expect quests like in Witcher 3. In Andromeda it is usually something like "Get to point A and scan. Ok now go to point B. Ok you are done.".
The reason I give a 1/10 and not a 0/10 is the great skill system that let's you build the character you want to play. Yes, other games have done it before, but hey, at least they did SOMETHING like current gen games.

--Nothing Memorable about the characters. ME1 and 2 did a better job at introducing several interesting characters. This however has characters that feel as though they trust you the moment you meet them you do not earn their trust.

--This game calls itself an RPG but it feels more like a shooter than an RPG. The skills no longer feel like something you learn as part of being immersed in the world and learning from the experiences of your adventure but rather something that feels like you omni-tool received a patch as a reward for killing enemies so it now has a new function after the update. You can basically look at it as an FPS shooters equivalence to a kill streak.

--Narrative choices in the wheel often only fall to two choices. The logical choice doesnt always sound logical its as though someone with little understanding of the rules of logic designed this. The emotional options give little to emotion. There was nothing inspiring when there was need for inspiration. At least with Dragonage there where moments of Hell Yeah. Like the Sword given to THE INQUISITOR, SKYHOLD, and THE PRAYER SONG after you wake up from defeat. Inquistion did a great job ant creating inspiration emotion grabbing moments. This however did none of that.

--SOUNDTRACK SOUNDTRACK SOUNDTRACK. Sound tracks like a good John Williams Star Wars, Zelda, or ME1,2,3 is important the right musical queues at the right moment can invoke emotion. It seems while the soundtrack was good it wasnt used correctly.

--Quest Design this game made side quests feel boring. The main game is Dragon Age Inquisitions minigames turned into a main quest. You go to each plant in which you have to change the atmosphere by going to each Pagoda/Tower solve a puzzle which lights a beam then go to the next site rinse wash repeat until it points you to the final location then your done. No creativity just the same old trudge. Witcher 3 set a standard each sidequest created its own story and the main quest where incredibly well thought out. Sorry Bioware but you cant get away with mediocrity.

--Character designs where piss poor it feels like every character had some type of skin and bone defect. Hell it feels like the reasons they left the milky way was because they where to ugly to look at so they where banished to the far corners of Andromeda.

--Besides the Writing, Game Design, and everything listed prior the character animations in this game felt like it was created by an intern in their first year of animation school. Sorry but a game that spends much of its time story telling through facial expressions and gestures cannot get away with this garbage.

Overall this is the biggest disappointment of the year so far. Dragon age Inquisition was good but lacking in comparison to the Original Biowares title. This Mass Effect is Bad and with little to none of the original developers, writers, and artists left at Bioware from its glory days this could spell trouble for them. The only real RPG I have left to look forward to it seems will be CD Projekt Red Cyberpower 2077

An explanation of each character difference, backed up by history, is required. I don't want to communicate with a gay man, but with a thoughtful character who can be anyone. The story brings a fictional character to life, makes us adore or hate him. But not when they shout from the screen that it is absolutely normal to be like that. No, this is unnatural. Don't force it on us.
This is not how to show that minorities are strong and have equal rights. Horizon just came out and shows you how to create a strong female hero.
The main thing here is not a lackluster plot and bad graphics.
This is just a very bad representation. An agenda that not everyone agrees on yet. An agenda that not everyone will accept.
I'm very sad now. Because of this game, I lost a piece of my heart. Mass Effect is no longer for me.
Please, if you don't want a bad script to come naturally, don't buy this game. Don't sponsor the death of the video game industry.

The gameplay is alright, but they also seemed to screw over pure biotic/tech players as there are a million different guns and only 3 ability slots. Sure you can switch your loadout, but then they all go on cooldown and it really messes up the flow of action. The cryo perks are mostly about crafting which is mostly about weapons, so once again, it's all about non-tech/biotic builds. Either way, both extremes are either the product of bad writing or sloppy design. Take your pick.

Mass Effect Andromeda present itself as a re-imagination of the beloved series which tries to capture discovery aspect of ME1 and character-driven epic-plot from ME2. But unfortunately it fails in almost every aspect of it.

Mass Effect Andromeda present itself as a re-imagination of the beloved series which tries to capture discovery aspect of ME1 and character-driven epic-plot from ME2. But unfortunately it fails in almost every aspect of it.

To begin with I'd say that MEA has the best environment among all of Mass Effects games. Planets looks exotic, interesting to explore and distinct from each other. And that's all the good stuff.
On the other note, we were told by Bioware Montreal that we can expect ME2 level of characters and deep, intriguing, exciting interaction with them like it was in ME2. And on that front it is a complete bust. Protagonists and their crew are straightforward, awkward and rather ludicrous (not even accounting for facial animation).
The other part of bad character writing and plot itself is lackluster warped dialog wheel, where you don't even have binary paragon/renegade option. Rather, in most cases it has only one option divided into two just for an illusion of options.
But that's just ruined core values of the series, somehow MEA manages to turn cinematic-single player RPG into mediocre MMO. Forget about epic stories of curing genophage, chasing villains and saving planets. Now you are a Pathfinder - Sudoku-solver, space-plumber, bug-collector and fungus-scanner and of course in order to complete all these collect-fetch quests you have to travel all over the map on the Nomad, clunky ground car.
And now the funniest part - even praised by many reviewers combat system actually looks like 5th wheel in a car. Here is the thing - designers of MEA just without thinking pasted on jump-jets onto ME3 combat system, where you can survive without a cover just a few seconds. And more than that, many of ME3 skills were ground based (charge, nova, shockware) which requires target to be on or slightly above the ground. And everything would be fine in MEA to, but many species are flying, so your skill can't do damage to them. These things turns brilliant ME3 combat into "cheap Chinese clone".
Overall it feels and plays like mediocre clone of greatest game series.

P.s. Just to mention it, there is also many of technical issues like: Facial animation, technically bad UI (which again looks like a mediocre copy of ME3 UI) , frame drops, audio clipping, p2p multiplayer and many more.

Story was subpar. First encounts and the aliens are lackluster in creativity: You have a whole new galaxy for a clean slate and you make it the exact same as the milky way.

To say the least, go play Gwent: The Wild Hunt instead. I had more entertainment (Albeit less spastic laughing at the horrible dialoge) from a mini game than I was in Andromeda.

For a gaming company I once considered the most innovative, most provocative story tellers with some above par game-play, I cannot express enough about my disappointment for "Mass Effect Andromeda." Bioware's nature to decline in quality from the glory days of "Dragon Age Origins" and the original "Mass Effect" series continues here.

This game is a glorified terrible sequel/reboot, that suffers from texture pop ins and frame rate issues on the PS4 PRO. The animations are some of the worst carny looking examples that are full of bugs and baffle me how they got through testing with someone thinking anything beside "This looks horrible." (They're almost disturbing)

The game feels rushed, underwhelming and the story is a shell of the former glory of the original series. It's actually a very shocking result after the debacle of a ending that was the climax of the first trilogy. The characters are all worse than their original counter parts, and when you naturally compare them to the original cast all you can feel is a longing that you were back with your original gang from the first series, they were at least interesting and left the player with a emotional connection. You cannot grow a attachment for these lifeless monstrosity mannequins.

The games FILLED with uninteresting, none engaging filler side-quests, If I wanted to play a MMO style game i'd simply play a MMO, there is absolutely no excuse for quests that have no meaning to the game or story, it's off putting and makes the gamer want to stop playing. The tragedy of this is that there are some actual decent quests in the game. Unfortunately, there is no way to differentiate between a engaging quest and another pointless fetch filler quests - leaving you to ultimately abandon side-quests all together because of how off putting the filler quests are. It's very shameful considering that decade old bioware games didn't suffer from the misery of fetch quests yet almost every recent "Bioware" title thinks implementing them in their games is a good idea.

The illusion of choice is also apparent in this game. There are less than a handful of meaningful choices in a game which is supposed to have story driven content based of the users decisions, which I find a cardinal sin as this being a "Bioware" game. Casting out the "Paragon/Renegade" system is fine and dandy. However, removing the element of choice all together is completely unacceptable, it feels like fallout 4 all over again. It's truly heartbreaking.

The combat is below mediocre and a let down in general, you also cannot issue commands beside "stand here" to any of your companions. I'd give it a pass however, when the rest of the of the game truly lacks any strengths it's just another terrible example of why Biioware getting in bed with EA was the absolute worst idea for the studio. It's also mentioning that the game does not have a "quick save" option IN 2017! Terrible, and you also run the risk of corrupting your save if you save inside your ship.

A truly buggy experience that I'm shocked pass the editor's floor, this game at the very least should have been delayed and fixed all of the terrible bugs that hinder the game. Even then, I truly doubt it would be enough to save this terrible example of a game. A tremendous disappointment and every single person involved in this projected should be ashamed of themselves. It's more of a insult to the "Mass Effect" universe and those who loved this franchise than the original's trilogy's ending. Congratulations Bioware/EA you did what you seem to do best lately, disappoint.

For example, the second leg of Peebee's loyalty mission -- retrieving Remnant tech from the Remnant ruins on Havarl -- cannot be completed. Don't get me wrong, you can actually complete the mission parameters by retrieving the necessary artifact; however, the game won't register the accomplishment -- so you can't complete the loyalty mission and obtain the Remnant scanner. (Don't try reloading from earlier saves either because it's useless.) Same thing happened to my friend on PS4 as well, so I know it's not just something with my copy. What happened to Bioware? Previous versions of Mass Effect were exceptional, but this is nothing short of a unmitigated train wreck. Expand

As I explore, I encountered the same building/structure as I previous did somewhere else in the map. The filler, fetch quests make a return from DAI but not as much as Inquisition however they are present in no small amount.
Romance is just like Inquisition, squad mates are romancable and to my knowledge all 'romance' scenes feature the iconic, lazy fade-to-black transition expect for Cora and PB. Flings are just pointless flirt options that leads to nothing.
I'm not even going to mention the infamous animation problem but I will say its very disappointing that a AAA studio with a large budget and 5-8 years of development time could not address this obvious flaw.

I had told my roommates repeatedlt that I was gonna play this game non-stop. I barely play an hour a day. Mass Effect 1 had a better time getting the aliens to look completely different from each other. They could have done so much with this game, and they fell flat. I am a die-hard Mass Effect fan and all I get from my devotion was a piece of **** that plays worse than Dragon Age Inquisition.

A huge disappointment, wont be surprised if the price dunked in less than 2 months.

A total steaming pile of rubbish - the entire studio who published this atrocity of a game should be fired. Between the crappy animations and faces that were better in ME1 (and that's TEN years ago) to the infantile writing, the even more dumbed down squad control, the vast quantity of mindless side quests. All in all a total mess.

As with most games touched by EA, this installment is a stain on a a great franchise and an embaressment to a company like Bioware, who has up till now been held in high regard by gamers.

I am so utterly dissapointed in every aspect of this game that i can safely say i wont even bother with the next title Bioware makes me wait 5 years for. Getting in bed with EA was the worst decision they ever made and this sad, unplayable failure of a game only serves to show just how far they have fallen.

Dont waste your money, the awful graphics and flat story aside, the outragous amount of bugs will most likely leave the game unplayable enough that you wont have to suffer through all the other shortcomings that make this game one of the hugest disappointments ever.

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.
