The game takes advantage of the old characters, but there was a deep balance, and new skills. The characters are better worked and deep. The developers have already said that they have had to take advantage of many characters because of the low budget given by Capcom. The game is not good for casuals, there is not much offline content, but those who like fighting games will fall in love with this game. The criticism was perverse, and the game the guys speak badly because one follows the opinion of the other, without playing and analyzing. Expand

If you like fighting games this is the best one out. The mechanics are incredible, and the gameplay is creative and satisfying. People saying it is dumbed down are outright lying.

If you like whining about the fact they marvel didn't let them put xmen in the roster then I guess it's not for you.

This is one of the more conflicting games to review as it manages to be one of the best games of the year while also being one of the most disappointing ones of the year at the same time.

Let's start off with the negatives first:

The visual presentation is very poor for a Marvel vs Capcom title. This is a series known for having excellent presentation values and this is easily it's worst outing in that department despite it being on the most advanced generation of games. While some aspects do look legitimately good like the stages, some of the story cutscenes ("some"), the particle effects and the Infinity Storms as a whole, this is a very lackluster presentation for the series. The same can be said about the voice acting.

The roster is mixed. The Marvel side is actually pretty good despite not having the X-Men. It's not the best in the series at all but it is still good enough. The Capcom side, however, is inexcusably lazy and uninspired with some questionable choices. While Jedah, X, Sigma and Monster Hunter are great additions, why are Spencer, Nemesis and Firebrand back? Who asked for these characters in comparison to other ones like Wesker, Vergil or Akuma? The Capcom side is bad and there is no excuse for it.

The story mode is another mixed bag. There are some things I do legit like about the story, like being quite brave in not finding a solution for the universes and some of the characters, in particular Jedah and Thanos, are really good and are a treat to watch. However, some of the scenes drag on for too long and because of the poor voice direction, the dialogue can be cringingly bad at points. It's not bad, but it's not great either.

    Now for the positives:

The gameplay is hands down the best out of any entry in the series and is by far the most customizable in the entire franchise. Everyone feels viable and because of how free the tag system is, you can pull off so many crazy combos unique to your team of choice that you'll spend hours experimenting with almost every character.

This game features more content then the other entries in the series and also has by far the best online mode. With replays, spectating, simple yet effective UI and extremely solid connection, playing online is a lot of fun and it allows every player to experience the best thing about the game which is the overall core fighting mechanics. It's only been 2 weeks since release and most people who watch high level play are captivated by the intense, crazy and wacky fun this game can bring. The gameplay is so great that there are people who get the game simply because of how great it looks to play.

This game is such an oddball. Has quite a few things bad with it yet it also has a lot of great things about it. To me, the gameplay saves this game from anything lower then an 8. It is so much fun to play with other people because of how addicting and open the fighting is and how good the online mode is. Wether or not you buy this game is all up to you, but me, I enjoy this game a whole lot. It most definitely could have been better and it more then likely will be due to DLC (which is a monkey poss scenario at this point) but this game should have been better at launch then how it ended up.

Overall - It is a very good game, damn near great game and one of the best of the year if it didn't have so many shortcomings in terms of it's overall visual presentation and some of the roster choices.

Between subjective arguments over the game's art style and Marvel's roster limitations that Capcom can't control, MvC Infinite isn't getting a fair shake. The game is approachable and fun to play, and while its visuals may seem generic to some, others may find its mix of semi-realism and comic book exaggeration to be a refreshing (if safe) aesthetic. It's not perfect, but I like the base roster much more than I did the launch version of MvC3. Sure, I miss the X-Men and Fantastic Four's Doctor Doom. Perhaps Disney could set aside its cinematic dispute for the sake of Marvel's lifelong fans and allow Wolverine and Magneto to be added as DLC. But ultimately, that's not a fight Capcom can win if Disney says it's off the table.

There are a lot of cool characters with heavily revised movesets here, though. I think it could be argued that Chun-Li, Dante, Nova, and several others that have appeared in previous entries play better than ever. The auto-combos make it easy to try out characters you may not otherwise, but they don't do enough damage to break the game or even the playing field with an experienced competitor. I also like the way the infinity stones affect your team's strategy, by bolstering strengths, hemming up weaknesses, or adding something unexpected into an already odd pairing. Some have tried to say this makes all characters into all-rounders and thus detracts from the roster's personality, but that's all in how you use them. It's kind of like saying customization is a bad thing.

There are certainly some elements that I would criticize, however. The Arcade mode should have difficulty settings, for one thing. I've been able to beat the end boss several times, but it was frustrating enough that I could see many players quitting the game over it. The UI and menus feel pretty cheap and could use an overhaul. There are plenty of viable characters like [Marvel's] Gwenpool, Luke Cage, Elektra, Daredevil, Spider-Gwen, Cloak & Dagger, Punisher, [Capcom's] Jill Valentine, Samanosuke Akechi, Vanessa Z. Schneider, Ruby Heart, Zangief, Amaterasu, Kasuga, Tron Bonne, or Viewtiful Joe that could fill out an improved roster. There should be alternate costumes for more than Captain Marvel, and stage selection is pretty thin. Another single player mode like Tatsunoko vs Capcom's Survival could go a long way.

Ultimately though, I still like what's there more than the initial releases of Marvel vs Capcom 3, Street Fighter V, and quite a few competing franchises. MvC Infinite may not set everyone's world on fire, but I'd definitely encourage players to try it and determine if it suits their tastes. It's definitely worth the time to evaluate fairly and objectively, plus many of the game's biggest issues can and likely will be solved through DLC and updates.

I do agree with a lot of complaints about the roster (especially the Marvel side), the graphics looking like a mobile game and the auto combo system, but over all, I still find it to be enjoyable and worth more than what people have given it credit for. As cheap as it is these days, I'd say it's def worth the purchase.

Although the roster is not bad by any means it lacks Marvel's usual X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises as well as any Capcom characters that ooze that classic Capcom charm (such as Viewtiful Joe, Phoenix Wright, Amaterasu, Tron Bonne, etc.). On top of that the game doesn't really feature that many newcomers. What I can say though that the characters available are incredibly fun to play as and there will at least be two of your favourites to choose from especially if you are a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The game itself feels a little undone, graphics are fine but nothing spectacular to today's standards (especially when comparing it to Injustice 2 which released a few months ago), what I think this game lacks compared to its predecessors is a decent art direction. Half of the stages present in this game feels rather bland and lifeless compared to previous entries in this series or just Capcom fighting games in general, most stages have been made with the Story mode in mind but some such as A.I.M.Brella, Knowmoon, New Metro City and Valkanda are pretty appealing. The UI also lacks any style and you will find yourself navigating through dull menus and keeping an eye on boring health bars in the midst of battle, it all just lacks that old Marvel Vs Capcom charm that we are used too. The music is pretty standard of remixes of classic character themes and the voice acting is pretty good for the most part.

The game includes a Story mode which is a first for the MvC series, I found myself enjoying it once you get past the first 10-30 minutes after awkward and eye rolling character introductions and interactions are done, I just wouldn't take it too seriously. Moaning aside the game includes your standard affair or Arcade, Mission and Online modes which all work really well, online plays pretty smoothly considering the craziness happening on screen.

As I put earlier the gameplay is just as great as past games in the series, although some changes have been made for this 2D fighter. Rather than teams of 3 on 3 which was introduced in Marvel Vs Capcom 2 the series has returned to its roots of 2 on 2 (that of Marvel Vs Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes), despite a missing character from the team the gameplay is still as frantic as ever with the inclusion of Infinity Stones, which all have game changing effects which adds another layer of depth into the game. You will be spending a lot of time trying to perfect the mix of tag team combat, timing and use of Infinity Stones.

Despite its flaws which I am able to overlook for now and in hope that Capcom takes feedback from fans and critics aside there is a really deep, decent and incredibly fun fighting game at its core resulting in one of the most fun fighting games I've played this generation, and as gamers isn't that what gaming is really about? Hopefully it will be even better once new characters are released and improvements are made from Capcom.

This is a reboot to the story of the series fleshing it out. The problem with story mode is that it is written like a comic book. If you had a professional actor read most comic books out loud, you would find it fairly cheesy and not well worded for script. Despite that the story holds together well and brings a dark atmosphere while also having some fun lines added in. You will cringe a few times.

As far as the actors go, most of them are the same people that have been playing the characters for awhile. Some of the new ones bother me a little and I am used to Baker voicing Rocket now. To say how fair it is to criticize them is hard in this situation. Most do a good job, but the lines are sometimes really bad which makes them sound bad.

To sum it up, if you are a huge fan of both universes, Story Mode is enjoyable despite flaws. It also gives you a chance to get used to the game and unlocks information. It does well at giving you an idea of what to expect later as they opened it up for a sequel game. I am really excited by what is to come thanks to this.

    Battle

You have Online of course. Ranked Matches, Casual, and even a Battle Lounge strictly for those who cannot seem to reach higher Ranks. I really like the overall format.

Arcade which is probably the least interesting aspect. Mostly because you have to beat it 15 times to unlock every alternate color. You can actually run through it pretty quick though. No character specific endings. I used to play Virtua Fighter a lot back in the day, could be worse.

Local 2P. Yep still there in all of its glory. You can play local matches with your friends.

Versus CPU. Want to test your skills against the AI, but actually be able to have it feel like a basic match, here you go.

Training Mode is exactly what it sounds.

Mission Mode has a Tutorial to teach you the basics of the game. I do mean basics. You can also learn specific combos for each character as well as get an idea of how to use them in Active Switch setups. Unfortunately it does not have enough to really push boundaries, but Mission Mode does a good job of teaching you fundamentals while pushing some tough combos on you.

Gallery which allows you to re-watch everything that happened in Story Mode. Also it has some nice artwork and every line voiced by every character. I am pretty happy with it.

Options. Has most stuff in it.

Now that is out of the way, let us get into the deeper areas of the game.

The roster currently has 30 characters. Most of them are returning characters and they have been revamped for this game. Now that Active Switch is a thing instead of the standard Tag from X-Men vs Street Fighter through Marvel vs Capcom, and then Assist from Marvel vs Capcom 2 through Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.

What Capcom says they wanted to change was the fact that many characters were just not used at all despite the larger roster. Marvel vs Capcom 2 had a huge issue with people only using the characters that could pull of infinite combos. Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 had a few characters strictly get used as Assists and did not hold up well solo. The large roster was fine for those not really looking to go Pro, but seemed like a waste for many in a tournament setting. It also made it less accessible to beginners.

This game does well at fitting in for both crowds. It has the Auto Combo feature which is new, but do not expect to go into a tournament using that as it will be turned off and you can turn it off under Options in the pause menu. Easy Supers which started in MvC2 and now for the first time since can be turned off. Finally Auto Follow which started with MvC3 and now can be turned off.

These features allow beginners to look impressive while playing against friends, but now go away when looking at the tournament settings.

L, M, H, S, A1, and A2 have been switched out with LP, HP, LK, HP, AS, and SS. Seems simple enough, but here is where we lose beginners. L, M, H, S Hold, L, M, H, A1 Hold, L, M, H, A2 Hold, L, M, H, S is now gone for simple combos. LP, LK, HP, HK, cr. HP, down - up, LP, LK, HP, HK is now the new basic. When playing in Pro settings, the A1 and A2 Auto Super is gone. Plus Active Switch means special moves for combos is no longer a single button. The Doom Missiles or Morrigan Kiss are now things of the past. Add it in the Infinity Stones and you are left with a whole new world of gameplay options that are less accessible to new players. It furthers the gap rather than lower it. Without beginner options, new people would likely not enjoy it as much.

For the character roster, 30 is a good number and they feel full fledged. The designs for some are not pleasing, but for others are great. Definitely worth it if you are into fighters.

There are so many times when I accidentally wasted a Hyper Combo while caught in the midst of battle, only to have my opponent telegraph and block the entire move. You would also think Capcom might realize that it just isn't fun to be corner-raped for an entire match. Once people know how to string together the most basic combos there's just no way to block or avoid it most of the time and newbies can simply Auto Combo their way to victory. Not very much fun and there's little to no skill involved. The Infinity Stones are a nice touch but it gets annoying when people kill off your 1st character then use their Soul Stone before you can use yours to take an easy win. Again, not fun at all, just an aggravating design choice.

Removing the X-Men and Fantastic Four didn't help this game's chances but we can blame Marvel for this since those properties were sold to Fox. Some of the character choices on Capcom's side were very questionable as well. Haggar? Nemesis? Firebrand? A lot of recognizable characters are on the roster but these obscure choices weren't even necessary. Overall the game feels like a giant advertisement for all of the upcoming Marvel movies. The 2 vs 2 combat is fine because it makes matches much quicker but the Auto Combos and easy Hypers should've been completely scrapped.

Well, since i’am not “huge” fan of this franchise, i won’t be too harsh against the game itself but it’s clear this game was one of the most anticipated IPs of Capcom and in the end, it’s failed for the launch by cannot matching with the fan expectations.

Our game has 7 game modes. They are: Story mode, Arcade, VS. mode, Training, Mission, Collection and Online.

One of the new things of the game, no doubt, “Story Mode”, where you track the main scenario along with playable characters and NPCs. Some obscure characters are also made their cameo in some cut-scenes. This is the first time a Marvel vs Capcom game that featuring a story mode separately. Another new thing is main “tag” system. The game using no longer 3 vs 3 formula yet they bring 2 vs 2 like old ones.

Gameplay is highly re-designed via “stones” which bring new assets to the gameplay such as: Power, Time, Space, Reality, Mind and Soul. Each stone is giving your team a special ability for certain period. The gameplay also introducing “Active Switch” and “Counter Switch” which gives you the opportunity to control your tag-partners in right time. There is also “Infinity Surge” which allow you to use Level 3 Super Combos by pressing two buttons.

And the roster...this is the major failure point of the game. MvC:I has 15 characters per side which make 30 in total included: Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk (yes, no X-men this time..), Ryu, Chun Li, Mayor Haggar, Mega-man.. all signature characters have been added to roster BUT, whole roster is not so new comparing to UMvC3. Newcomers “ that should be already in the cast” are already confirmed as “upcoming DLC”. Marvel side is completely copy-paste of previous game. 30 characters might be enough for a 2 vs 2 game but the roster is not satisfying at all..they could add more new faces.

Graphics are great, not the best but great. At least better than previous installment. Characters are fully 3D now. Whole screen is crisp, colorful and delivering well the signature atmosphere of Capcom’s fighting game genre. But the game menus, art direction, roster screen, extras are quite insufficient and pretty bad. Cut-scenes are another big thing of the game, story related stuff and animations are brilliant. As for stages, i can clearly say they are awesome and one of the best points of the game. Better then many fighting games that currently out.

Can’t say anything good about in-game tunes which i found non-catchy yet dialogues and voice acting are ok. Very well done.

This game is developed in order to please both fractions as usual: competitive (pro) and standard (casual) fanbase. It’s too early to saying anything about competitive part albeit the game has some “easy mode” downgrades yet still has some deep mechanics to be mined by players. But it’s clear the other part not pleased everyone, especially those who playing the game for the cast and old-fashion combo show. The game is pretty in-completed right now and it doesn’t offer something so special for both online and offline modes.

But then again, this is a fighting game on it’s own basis and if you’re fan of the genre and characters, you can buy and try it alone, or with friends.

    Play on!..

After playing it, I was incredibly let down. Each character looks dreadful and the voice acting is unprofessional. Instead of being able to lean on the strength of the now robust MCU, each character seems like an insult to their movie AND comic book equivalent. The story mode is an embarrassment. As an out of box experience, it did not feel like i was playing a real Capcom release. It looks like a mobile game, even in the horrid User Interfaces and health bars and the look of a lot of the moves.

That being said, there is a game here. Underneath the wreckage of this dumpster fire there is actually a really fun game. The training mode is fun and I like a lot of the new characters and new mechanics of the game which seem like they're going to be fairly deep and exciting.

So, maybe my score should be lower but I'm holding out hope that maybe I will like the wreckage underneath as I start to play it a bit more and see it played competitively. Still, with Street Fighter V suffering from a lot of the same problems, i can't help but worry for the future of Fighting Games for Capcom. Lots of the hardcore fans seem to actually like this title too, so maybe there's a bright future for this ugly game.

The story itself is actually meh on the writing, but is still a decent tale of two worlds. The other "bad thing" thing is the roster. Most of it is rehash from UMvC3 but with new moves so it's not that bad. The new characters are awesome by the way. Jedah, gammora, X, Captain Marvel, Ultron and the 6 DLC (Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Venom, Monster Hunter, Black Panther and Sigma. The roster will get better as more dlc comes out. Now the good part : The gameplay and New mechanics. Three new mechanics really caught my eye : The tag anytime which let's me extend combos, the damage scaling which stops people from dying in 1 combo like in UMvC3 and the infinity stones. The infinity stones replace the third member of your party in exchange for a bonus granted by the stone. The time stone teleports you, the power stone does a knockback mechanic to start or extend combos, the mind stone has a command grab, the space stone bring opponents closer to you, the reality stone shoots a homing projectile and the soul stone shoots a beam with a life steal mechanic. This game manages to be very fun with diverse teams and stone gameplay. It's not perfect but it works and Is really addicting. One last thing, the net code is great. The online has been perfectly fine tuned in this game to make the smoothest online play in any MVC game. Expand

you basically paying 60$ for a unfinished game then have to pay $30 more for the extra DLC characters they already done, only idiots would give greedy company like Capcom these money

It's a good game, mainly because of its zany, complex and freestyle gameplay. To make matters worse, interesting characters are indeed coming (with one of them being already done but left out for extra cash)...but for an additional fee. The graphics are disappointing not only because the art style is not flattering to half of the cast but it can also get quite straining for the eyes when any player activates an infinity stone and everything becomes tinted with a fluorescent color. Finally, single player content is severely lacking with a weak story and no arcade endings or any extra unlockable content to stimulate new playthroughs. Voice acting is WILDLY amateurish for most of the cast (with a few notable exceptions such as Chun Li or Dr Strange) and the absence of a japanese track really hurts the experience (just try listening to Morrigan or Spencer's accidentally hilarious "let's get this party started!").

HOWEVER, the gameplay IS completely revamped for the better and as long as you're willing to put the time and effort in learning the characters, you'll probably get a kick out of MvCI. I personally recommend waiting for a price drop; getting this game + the first 6 DLC characters for 60 bucks sounds more reasonable than what Capcom wants you to pay right now.

The character selection is just not enjoyable. There are really no good characters, just bad and worse. I would highly recommend you stay away from this pile of crap. Even if you get it on sale for half off, you paid too much. Expand

A giant waste of money just like Streetfighter V
Worse mechanics, awful character designs and extremely greedy microtransactions
An overall dissapointing game showing the end of a once perfect series who was thrown in the bin by an uncaring company

It doesn't look like a comic like it's predecessor. The lighting is wack. The character models for Spiderman and captain America were trash. They have so little characters because Disney was being. A dick head. In the next game we want the X-Men, fantastic and 3v3. Hopefully we can get that. Story mode wa

It's unforgivable that in 2017 a new Marvel vs Capcom game would look so bad......characters' models look plastic and stiff, horrid story line and lack of key characters that have always been part of the franchise.........a total disaster.

Everything else pretty much isnt. Most characters are just reused from MvC3. The Story mode is downright stupid and the dialouges are cheesy. A lackluster roster and a Season Pass ( datamining shows that another one is more than likely to come ) that puts new characters behind a paywall that costs no less than 50% of the core game. Capcom at its best.

If you wait two months you can get a copy used for much cheaper, trust me.

With Injustice 2, MKX, Tekken 7, Blaz Blue and Guilty Gear all available on current gen, you will be much better served with each one of these. Sadly, just like with SF Capcom shat the bed again.

If you want to play it no matter what, buy it used or as a bargain. 4/10 Below Average

As someone who has been very skeptical and unhappy with MVCI since its reveal, I decided to try it out before I made my final judgement and it did not disappoint in that it indeed disappointed. Let's start.
1)Graphics/Presentation and Artstyle - I'll start by saying the graphics have improved much since it's controversial day 1 reveal but now having played the final version on 4k, it's hard to believe this is a modern day 8th gen console game. It only looks like a slightly tweaked up version of a game(MVC3) that came out almost 7 years ago on a 7th gen console yet MVC3 graphics, artstyle and presentation is lightyears ahead of this game and shows nothing but the upmost love into all it's nuances but MVCI looks so passionless. From dead eyes on characters, weird facial expressions, frozen lip movement, odd body proportions, questionable texturing and bad design choices. The characters also blend too much into the background. Honestly I hate to say it but it's a bit painful to the eyes after long periods of staring at it, something I don't get from watching a budget title like KOF14. The HUD/UI is honestly the worst i've personally seen in a game in a decade, it's bland, lifeless and feels amateur.
2)Sound/Music - This had me scratching my head. The music in this game is some of the worst fighting game music i've been bestowed upon, nothing but "wub" "wub" and generic themes. The voice acting with a few exceptions is downright atrocious and will have you questioning how this came about especially with resources like Marvel who have an entire animated division full of voice actors who already voice these characters and Capcom itself with it's own titles. The voice acting is comparable to the quality that was put into the original RE back on PS1 which was so bad Capcom made sure to correct on it's own remake of RE.
3)Controls - This is one of the rare instances it shines. The controls imo is the best the series has felt since XMvSF or even going back as far as COTA. Easy to jump into and get use to. And it still has all the executional depth previous installments had like plinking or tri-dashing.
4)Story and Concept - This is one of the most disappointing areas of the game especially when you compare it to the standards of other fighters that has been established since 2013 or so. I didn't expect the depth of NRS or anime fighters given the subject matter. But whoa the voice acting is so bad it's distracting how forced it feels, the dialogue in-game and via story feels like terrible fan-fiction gone rogue, the character interactions are cringe-worthy and soundbites are uninspired. The story is what you'd expect if you played SF5s storymode and MVCI story is more bearable when it drops all the slapstick/jokes for a more serious tone.
5)Gameplay - Now this where the game shines the brightest. Imo I think this might be the best gameplay mechanics the series has seen. It has all the depth/strategy of the tag system from SFXT except you don't need meter to tag. It's extremely free form and you can tag in/out at any moment(offensive, defensive, specials, supers etc) which leads to some ridiculous scenarios. The game technically has no assists but I beg to differ, it does. Instead however your assist doesn't come from a secondary/3rd character from the sidelines, your assist comes from your primary on-point character, the difference besides the aforementioned is that when you use your assist(active switch) you change characters to the oncoming one. So all the crazy lock-down and high-low mixups remains intact. Example using a multi-hitting move like Firebrands flame carpet or Chuns lightning legs to lock-down the opponent and than mixing them up with tri-jumps to get in a high or low just like using assists in MVC3. All the other modes are of a dated standard(mission, arcade etc), training mode/tutorials is a big disappoint, it has bare minimum effort, just play Guilty Gears Xrds(a 2014 game) training/tutorials and come back to MVCI and see what I mean, it's boggling that this passes as a training mode/tutorial in 2017 when you compare to alot of the competition which has things like frame data, hitbox/hurtbox display and explanations of fighting game lingo like negative edge, teching and meaties. Besides all that the UI and other areas are frustrating coming from a game made in 2017. There is no Legacy Stick Driver Support. Only one person gets the post-match menu. Only one person gets main menu control with no indication of who...Now the online, playing online is alot better than past Capcom fighter efforts. If you have a solid connection vs another solid connection you'll be very pleased, not the best online but the best Capcom has achieved so far. The roster leaves little to be desired, small and uninspired, no 50 characters like KOF14 or hype factor like the selection of KI.

Overall i can't recommend MVCI to casuals and hardcore alike. Buying MVCI is endorsing a bleak future for Capcom Fighters.

This game is a mistake. The roster is trash, the graphics are bad, arcade mode is an afterthought, story mode is BAD and the gameplay is not exciting as DBZ. Avoid this trash.

Infinite is a case study on how not to make crossovers. The story mode is really poorly written and if you don’t already know and like the characters, you’ll just waste your time. What’s worse, almost every element of the game is similarly weak. The result is a mediocre game that wastes the potential of its solid combat system. [12/2017, p.54]

This game doesn't feel like the next game in a long running series. This feels like a brand new game that exists only to promote the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
