    A step forward for the franchise. The game play is fresh and interesting. The graphics look tip top. Infinity stones are dynamic additions. Glad Capcom listened to the fans-significant improvements to Chun Li's face. She no longer looks like Chuckie's bride. This is the kind of game that you can just kick back and relax and play with your friends for hours. The game is appropriateA step forward for the franchise. The game play is fresh and interesting.     This game is so much fun! I had played previous versions of MVCI and wasn't sure this would hold up. I was blown away! I love fighting games and this is my new favorite fighting game!

    Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is incredible! The game is great, extremely fun, the gameplay / gameplay itself is the best ever made in the franchise. It is fun, balanced and fluid. The graphics are not ugly as they seem in Youtube videos, when you play the game in front of you, the graphic is beautiful, nothing amazing, but it is far superior to MvsC3. The game takes advantage of the oldMarvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is incredible! The game is great, extremely fun, the gameplay / gameplay itself is the best ever made in the franchise. It is fun, balanced and fluid. The game takes advantage of the old characters, but there was a deep balance, and new skills. The characters are better worked and deep. The developers have already said that they have had to take advantage of many characters because of the low budget given by Capcom. The game is not good for casuals, there is not much offline content, but those who like fighting games will fall in love with this game. The criticism was perverse, and the game the guys speak badly because one follows the opinion of the other, without playing and analyzing.… Expand

    If you like fighting games this is the best one out. The mechanics are incredible, and the gameplay is creative and satisfying. People saying it is dumbed down are outright lying.

    If you like whining about the fact they marvel didn't let them put xmen in the roster then I guess it's not for you.

    Spencer is a pretty good summary of what is wrong with this game, his model well doesn't look very good, the face particularly is well, very sub par but he plays well, he is fun to use.
    This game plays way better than it looks, the netcode works well and as a fighting game I am loving it, but it is hard not to ignore some of the rough edges, the roster could be better but i am not as put    Spencer is a pretty good summary of what is wrong with this game, his model well doesn't look very good, the face particularly is well, very sub par but he plays well, he is fun to use.

    I mainly used to play the old school Street Fighter games since I have a Street Fighter 2 arcade in my basement. Enough bragging. Just got a PS4 and Infinite is my first intro to Modern Capcom. What a blast! Got to go play!!

    This is one of the more conflicting games to review as it manages to be one of the best games of the year while also being one of the most disappointing ones of the year at the same time.

    Let's start off with the negatives first: The visual presentation is very poor for a Marvel vs Capcom title.     The visual presentation is very poor for a Marvel vs Capcom title. This is a series known for having excellent presentation values and this is easily it's worst outing in that department despite it being on the most advanced generation of games. While some aspects do look legitimately good like the stages, some of the story cutscenes ("some"), the particle effects and the Infinity Storms as a whole, this is a very lackluster presentation for the series. The same can be said about the voice acting.

    The roster is mixed. The Marvel side is actually pretty good despite not having the X-Men. It's not the best in the series at all but it is still good enough. The Capcom side, however, is inexcusably lazy and uninspired with some questionable choices. While Jedah, X, Sigma and Monster Hunter are great additions, why are Spencer, Nemesis and Firebrand back? Who asked for these characters in comparison to other ones like Wesker, Vergil or Akuma? The Capcom side is bad and there is no excuse for it.

    The story mode is another mixed bag. There are some things I do legit like about the story, like being quite brave in not finding a solution for the universes and some of the characters, in particular Jedah and Thanos, are really good and are a treat to watch. However, some of the scenes drag on for too long and because of the poor voice direction, the dialogue can be cringingly bad at points. It's not bad, but it's not great either.

    Now for the positives:

    The gameplay is hands down the best out of any entry in the series and is by far the most customizable in the entire franchise. Everyone feels viable and because of how free the tag system is, you can pull off so many crazy combos unique to your team of choice that you'll spend hours experimenting with almost every character.

    This game features more content then the other entries in the series and also has by far the best online mode. With replays, spectating, simple yet effective UI and extremely solid connection, playing online is a lot of fun and it allows every player to experience the best thing about the game which is the overall core fighting mechanics. It's only been 2 weeks since release and most people who watch high level play are captivated by the intense, crazy and wacky fun this game can bring. The gameplay is so great that there are people who get the game simply because of how great it looks to play.

    This game is such an oddball. Has quite a few things bad with it yet it also has a lot of great things about it. To me, the gameplay saves this game from anything lower then an 8. It is so much fun to play with other people because of how addicting and open the fighting is and how good the online mode is. Wether or not you buy this game is all up to you, but me, I enjoy this game a whole lot. It most definitely could have been better and it more then likely will be due to DLC (which is a monkey poss scenario at this point) but this game should have been better at launch then how it ended up.

    Overall - It is a very good game, damn near great game and one of the best of the year if it didn't have so many shortcomings in terms of it's overall visual presentation and some of the roster choices.    … Expand

    i went in with much skepticism given some of the mixed reviews. However, after playing it for a few hours, I came out pleasantly surprised. Captain Marvel kicked ass! For those of you weenies crying about no x-men, get over it! There is more to this franchise than the x-men. For crying out loud there are 30 dynamic characters to choose from. And who knows, maybe with time, x meni went in with much skepticism given some of the mixed reviews. However, after playing it for a few hours, I came out pleasantly surprised. Captain Marvel kicked ass! For those of you weenies crying about no x-men, get over it! There is more to this franchise than the x-men. For crying out loud there are 30 dynamic characters to choose from. And who knows, maybe with time, x men will join the roster. Until then, this is a fun game filled with lots of surprises.… Expand

The game is approachable and fun to play, and while its visuals may seem generic to some, others may find its mix of semi-realism and comic book exaggeration to be a refreshing (if safe) aesthetic. It's not perfect, but I like the base roster much more than I did the launch version of MvC3. Sure, I miss the X-Men and Fantastic Four's Doctor Doom. Perhaps Disney could set aside its cinematic dispute for the sake of Marvel's lifelong fans and allow Wolverine and Magneto to be added as DLC. But ultimately, that's not a fight Capcom can win if Disney says it's off the table.

    There are a lot of cool characters with heavily revised movesets here, though. I think it could be argued that Chun-Li, Dante, Nova, and several others that have appeared in previous entries play better than ever. The auto-combos make it easy to try out characters you may not otherwise, but they don't do enough damage to break the game or even the playing field with an experienced competitor. I also like the way the infinity stones affect your team's strategy, by bolstering strengths, hemming up weaknesses, or adding something unexpected into an already odd pairing. Some have tried to say this makes all characters into all-rounders and thus detracts from the roster's personality, but that's all in how you use them. It's kind of like saying customization is a bad thing.

    There are certainly some elements that I would criticize, however. The Arcade mode should have difficulty settings, for one thing. I've been able to beat the end boss several times, but it was frustrating enough that I could see many players quitting the game over it. The UI and menus feel pretty cheap and could use an overhaul. There are plenty of viable characters like [Marvel's] Gwenpool, Luke Cage, Elektra, Daredevil, Spider-Gwen, Cloak & Dagger, Punisher, [Capcom's] Jill Valentine, Samanosuke Akechi, Vanessa Z. Schneider, Ruby Heart, Zangief, Amaterasu, Kasuga, Tron Bonne, or Viewtiful Joe that could fill out an improved roster. There should be alternate costumes for more than Captain Marvel, and stage selection is pretty thin. Another single player mode like Tatsunoko vs Capcom's Survival could go a long way.

    Ultimately though, I still like what's there more than the initial releases of Marvel vs Capcom 3, Street Fighter V, and quite a few competing franchises. MvC Infinite may not set everyone's world on fire, but I'd definitely encourage players to try it and determine if it suits their tastes. It's definitely worth the time to evaluate fairly and objectively, plus many of the game's biggest issues can and likely will be solved through DLC and updates.    … Expand

Although the roster is not bad by any means it lacks Marvel's usual X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises as well as any Capcom characters that ooze that classic Capcom charm (such as Viewtiful Joe, Phoenix Wright, Amaterasu, Tron Bonne, etc.). On top of that the game doesn't really feature that many newcomers. What I can say though that the characters available are incredibly fun to play as and there will at least be two of your favourites to choose from especially if you are a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

    The game itself feels a little undone, graphics are fine but nothing spectacular to today's standards (especially when comparing it to Injustice 2 which released a few months ago), what I think this game lacks compared to its predecessors is a decent art direction. Half of the stages present in this game feels rather bland and lifeless compared to previous entries in this series or just Capcom fighting games in general, most stages have been made with the Story mode in mind but some such as A.I.M.Brella, Knowmoon, New Metro City and Valkanda are pretty appealing. The UI also lacks any style and you will find yourself navigating through dull menus and keeping an eye on boring health bars in the midst of battle, it all just lacks that old Marvel Vs Capcom charm that we are used too. The music is pretty standard of remixes of classic character themes and the voice acting is pretty good for the most part.

    The game includes a Story mode which is a first for the MvC series, I found myself enjoying it once you get past the first 10-30 minutes after awkward and eye rolling character introductions and interactions are done, I just wouldn't take it too seriously. Moaning aside the game includes your standard affair or Arcade, Mission and Online modes which all work really well, online plays pretty smoothly considering the craziness happening on screen.

    As I put earlier the gameplay is just as great as past games in the series, although some changes have been made for this 2D fighter. Rather than teams of 3 on 3 which was introduced in Marvel Vs Capcom 2 the series has returned to its roots of 2 on 2 (that of Marvel Vs Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes), despite a missing character from the team the gameplay is still as frantic as ever with the inclusion of Infinity Stones, which all have game changing effects which adds another layer of depth into the game. You will be spending a lot of time trying to perfect the mix of tag team combat, timing and use of Infinity Stones.

    Despite its flaws which I am able to overlook for now and in hope that Capcom takes feedback from fans and critics aside there is a really deep, decent and incredibly fun fighting game at its core resulting in one of the most fun fighting games I've played this generation, and as gamers isn't that what gaming is really about? Hopefully it will be even better once new characters are released and improvements are made from Capcom.    … Expand

The New Infinity Stone Mechanic is a nice edition to the Gameplay as well, allowing victory to feel all the more satisfying. While there are not enough new characters to balance out with the over abundance of returning characters, the downgrade from three to two characters per team is slightly upsetting, the lack of X-Men characters is certainly upsetting for fans of mutant team, and the Story was embarrassingly in serious need of Marvel's writing expertise. I don't think the Lack of X-Men characters is a huge loss considering their sparse relationship with Thanos and the Infinity Stones. This is a reboot to the story of the series fleshing it out. The problem with story mode is that it is written like a comic book. If you had a professional actor read most comic books out loud, you would find it fairly cheesy and not well worded for script. Despite that the story holds together well and brings a dark atmosphere while also having some fun lines added in. You will cringe a few times.

    As far as the actors go, most of them are the same people that have been playing the characters for awhile. Some of the new ones bother me a little and I am used to Baker voicing Rocket now. To say how fair it is to criticize them is hard in this situation. Most do a good job, but the lines are sometimes really bad which makes them sound bad.

    To sum it up, if you are a huge fan of both universes, Story Mode is enjoyable despite flaws. It also gives you a chance to get used to the game and unlocks information. It does well at giving you an idea of what to expect later as they opened it up for a sequel game. I am really excited by what is to come thanks to this.

    Battle

    You have Online of course. Ranked Matches, Casual, and even a Battle Lounge strictly for those who cannot seem to reach higher Ranks. I really like the overall format.

    Arcade which is probably the least interesting aspect. Mostly because you have to beat it 15 times to unlock every alternate color. You can actually run through it pretty quick though. No character specific endings. I used to play Virtua Fighter a lot back in the day, could be worse.

    Local 2P. Yep still there in all of its glory. You can play local matches with your friends.

    Versus CPU. Want to test your skills against the AI, but actually be able to have it feel like a basic match, here you go.

    Training Mode is exactly what it sounds.

    Mission Mode has a Tutorial to teach you the basics of the game. I do mean basics. You can also learn specific combos for each character as well as get an idea of how to use them in Active Switch setups. Unfortunately it does not have enough to really push boundaries, but Mission Mode does a good job of teaching you fundamentals while pushing some tough combos on you.

    Gallery which allows you to re-watch everything that happened in Story Mode. Also it has some nice artwork and every line voiced by every character. I am pretty happy with it.

    Options. Has most stuff in it.

    Now that is out of the way, let us get into the deeper areas of the game.

    The roster currently has 30 characters. Most of them are returning characters and they have been revamped for this game. Now that Active Switch is a thing instead of the standard Tag from X-Men vs Street Fighter through Marvel vs Capcom, and then Assist from Marvel vs Capcom 2 through Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.

    What Capcom says they wanted to change was the fact that many characters were just not used at all despite the larger roster. Marvel vs Capcom 2 had a huge issue with people only using the characters that could pull of infinite combos. Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 had a few characters strictly get used as Assists and did not hold up well solo. The large roster was fine for those not really looking to go Pro, but seemed like a waste for many in a tournament setting. It also made it less accessible to beginners.

    This game does well at fitting in for both crowds. It has the Auto Combo feature which is new, but do not expect to go into a tournament using that as it will be turned off and you can turn it off under Options in the pause menu. Easy Supers which started in MvC2 and now for the first time since can be turned off. Finally Auto Follow which started with MvC3 and now can be turned off.

    These features allow beginners to look impressive while playing against friends, but now go away when looking at the tournament settings.

    L, M, H, S, A1, and A2 have been switched out with LP, HP, LK, HP, AS, and SS. Seems simple enough, but here is where we lose beginners. L, M, H, S Hold, L, M, H, A1 Hold, L, M, H, A2 Hold, L, M, H, S is now gone for simple combos. LP, LK, HP, HK, cr. HP, down - up, LP, LK, HP, HK is now the new basic. When playing in Pro settings, the A1 and A2 Auto Super is gone. Plus Active Switch means special moves for combos is no longer a single button. The Doom Missiles or Morrigan Kiss are now things of the past. Add it in the Infinity Stones and you are left with a whole new world of gameplay options that are less accessible to new players. It furthers the gap rather than lower it. Without beginner options, new people would likely not enjoy it as much.

    For the character roster, 30 is a good number and they feel full fledged. The designs for some are not pleasing, but for others are great. Definitely worth it if you are into fighters.    … Expand

    This game is fantastic. I'm going to go over the bad things first to get that out of the way. The story mode is AAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSS. The cutscenes are awkward and filled with only the cheesiest Cheetos one liners. The animations IN THE CUTSCENES are horrendous, but look fine in motion. The story itself is actually meh on the writing, but is still a decent tale of two worlds. The other "badThis game is fantastic. I'm going to go over the bad things first to get that out of the way. Jedah, gammora, X, Captain Marvel, Ultron and the 6 DLC (Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Venom, Monster Hunter, Black Panther and Sigma. The roster will get better as more dlc comes out. Now the good part : The gameplay and New mechanics. Three new mechanics really caught my eye : The tag anytime which let's me extend combos, the damage scaling which stops people from dying in 1 combo like in UMvC3 and the infinity stones. The infinity stones replace the third member of your party in exchange for a bonus granted by the stone. The time stone teleports you, the power stone does a knockback mechanic to start or extend combos, the mind stone has a command grab, the space stone bring opponents closer to you, the reality stone shoots a homing projectile and the soul stone shoots a beam with a life steal mechanic. This game manages to be very fun with diverse teams and stone gameplay. It's not perfect but it works and Is really addicting. One last thing, the net code is great. The online has been perfectly fine tuned in this game to make the smoothest online play in any MVC game.… Expand

    Infinite is a case study on how not to make crossovers. The story mode is really poorly written and if you don’t already know and like the characters, you’ll just waste your time. What’s worse, almost every element of the game is similarly weak. The result is a mediocre game that wastes the potential of its solid combat system. [12/2017, p.54]
