I know people have difference of opinion but I honestly feel bad for people who enjoyed this game. I pity on them for have such a bad taste in video games. I tried extremely hard to enjoy this game but failed miserably. I enjoy staring at wall more than i enjoyed playing this game.

Very disappointed. I just couldn’t play the game. I am a huge fan of Mafia 1 and 2 and i had huge expectations for this game. The only good thing i experienced about this game was the soundtrack. I can’t comment the story because the gameplay didn’t let me experience it. Just **** Don’t waste your time!

A sub-par GTA clone with technical issues and gameplay problems.
The soundtrack is pretty neat, the violence is particularly brutal but as a complete package Mafia 3 misses the mark.
Could've been really good, but, well, its not.

Let me start by saying that I played and beat Mafia iii and its 3 DLC 4 years after it shipped. I assume the game was very buggy at launch, that justifies a lot of the low scores it got. Even 4 years after launch it has a lot of bugs, some serious, but none are game breaking.

Mafia III + DLC is an amazing game. It deserve a 9/10 in my book (I removed 1 point for the bugs). The more you play the more it grows on you. I reached a point where I was so comfortable with all the mechanics (shooting, driving, running, etc...) that I didn't want the game to end. I fell in love with New Bordeaux (New Orleans in the game), the soundtrack (Amazing 60's songs), the cars and the driving, the stealth approach to each encounters, the shooting mechanics, etc...

Some reviews say the game is repetitive, but it's not. It's true that you have to conquer district after district by running after the bosses and try to hurt their businesses, but I felt that each district had its own identity, its own missions, unique landscape and scenery, that I felt it was different from the previous one and kept the game compelling. I never felt bored, and always wanted to continue to the next area. The story is good, although I didn't like the main protagonist however I understood his motives.

You can approach each objective the way you want (stealth or all gun). Both mechanics are very well implemented and fun. Shooting has a slow mo feature that is welcomed since a couple of bullet can decimate you. Guns are varied, and you have to complete certain objectives to acquire some of them (some of the best) which is an incentive to keep progressing to acquire a piece of equipment. There are loads of upgrades that you can get and they are crucial to win some missions.

Likewise, there are very nice and difficult races throughout the city. The more you progress throughout the story, the fastest cars you'll get and better upgrades for your cars that will help you win and beat the highest scores in the more difficult races. You can customise your cars and in the course of the game you'll find yourself driving exotic, upgraded beautiful cars. That's a nice feature since you start the game with slow 60's car, you end up driving 8 valves ultra rapid cars. There is a sense of progression very well implemented. and I kept getting these slow upgrades throughout my 100 hrs playthrough (I took my time cause I loved the game and I beat every mission available).

This is a game you have to give a chance to. At first, you might not like it, but after 10 hrs of play, it will grow on you and you will get used to all its mechanics and you'll want to progress.
I loved all the 3 DLC, there are varied, provide a lot of different objectives and even an additional area that has large fields and jumps à la GTA V.

You'll have to earn money in this game, as most upgrades require you to pay hefty cash to get them, and money is scarce. It is usually found in mafia hideouts when you raid them which gives an additional reason to beat all the objective in each district to get the maximum cash you can get. Weapons also cost a lot of money to acquire as well as car upgrades. You'll never find yourself with an excess of money throughout the game, because of the reasons I mentioned.

tl;dr Get Mafia III and take your sweat time with it. It is a very good game, with excellent graphics, and very well executed mechanics. It has a compelling story a large and varied map, excellent shooting and driving mechanics and dozens of hours of gameplay.

    Mafia 3
    A perfect example of unawareness.
Mafia 3 is sort of a sequel to mafia 2 in that its main character Vito makes a return, but sadly only as a throwaway... the star this time is a half black Vietnam veteran named Lincoln clay, his race is important to mention due to the fact the game takes place in the mid to late 1960s, and in the south at that in a fictional new Orleans.. so

Mafia 3 is sort of a sequel to mafia 2 in that its main character Vito makes a return, but sadly only as a throwaway... the star this time is a half black Vietnam veteran named Lincoln clay, his race is important to mention due to the fact the game takes place in the mid to late 1960s, and in the south at that in a fictional new Orleans.. so expect to run into some racist trick or treaters and hear the n word used more times than in any rap song you’ve heard…
The first few hours of this game does a great job of bringing the era and time period to life just as greatly as mafia 2 did…
The world felt alive, hearing npcs on the sidewalks talk about martin Luther king jr, James earl ray, john F Kennedy… and the soundtrack in this game is just as perfect as mafia 2s soundtrack was…
And there are a few nice touches to the game like the radio getting staticy when you drive through tunnels…
And then the game cracks and becomes what it’s not and was never intended to be… A generic open world liberation game…
Mafia 3 feels like an Assassins Creed game and ironically suffers from the same thing recent ac games have suffered from…
Mafia has never been about its open world… It’s been about being a time machine... it’s why I loved mafia 2 and it’s why I loved most of the assassin’s creed games… Mafia 2 brought you back in time to live in a world that felt foreign… it made me feel nostalgic for a time period I didn’t even get to live through... it had me listening to music from the 40s and 50s in my everyday life and it immersed me into an epic experience because there was so much love, care, and detail inside of every main mission and the world around you… It all felt hand crafted…
Mafia 3 shifted its focus from being an experience to being a video game the moment it opens up…
And this is where its cracks start to show
The game structure is the same throughout… You’re tasked with doing monetary damage to a quote unquote business… each business is different but despite this you do same thing over and over and over for 20 hours… interrogate a target.. They tell you where the product is... you destroy the product, kill some targets, and get an underboss to come out from hiding...kill him… rinse and repeat...
Once an underboss is killed you can give that section of the city to one of your underbosses for an added perk, careful to keep all 3 happy so they don’t turn on you…
You have to do this Twice to get the main boss to come out… and this mission to kill the top boss in each city’s section are the greatest moments in the entire game.. so many epic and memorable levels to experience here… and the fact that they make up less than half of the game is completely unacceptable…
This doing damage to bring out the underbosses and killing them to bring out the boss is a great idea
I have no issue with this formula being used from start to finish.. what I do take issue is the fact that the structure of these missions dont change…
Every last mission should be as fleshed out as the kill whoever missions… which again are great points in the game…
But especially after experiencing witcher 3.. there’s no excuse for your main missions in an open world to not even have half the heart witchers side mission do let alone its campaign missions…
Sure make me do damage to bring them out, but make each mini boss its own hand crafted experience and story like the main bosses are.. Especially considering they’re required for story progression…
They feel like rinse and repeat liberation points throughout...
If that means the story goes from 20 hours to 12, I’m happy...
a 12 hour masterpiece is worth more to me than 20 hours of the same thing beat by beat…
The actual gameplay itself I felt is a bit unbalanced and inconsistent…
The guns in this game took far too long to reload for the amount of enemies you had to deal with.. sure you can call in for help during missions, but it hardly ever mattered…
You’d constantly get surrounded so cover didn’t matter, even if it did the cover system was super awkward leading you to pop right up trying to switch from cover to cover….enemies felt like bullet sponges, so you’d run out of a clip while dealing with 3 or 4 at a time and while you reloaded it would be over for you…
Even on the games easiest difficulty I felt it was too easy to die considering the circumstances..
And for some reason the main target in these missions takes damage like a tank…throwing the feel of the entire game away every time you encounter one…
You could also stealth around and take out enemies ninja style if you’d like…
Since you do have a voodoo doll to distract enemies and you can whistle to bring them towards you 1 at a time…
The outside world is a bit of a letdown too, as cops hardly feel like a threat at all.. More like ornaments…
And you have to constantly deal with citizens running to call the copy every time you hop in a car like watch dogs but worse...
And they call them unrealistically fast as do the goons calling for back up….
An extreme annoyance that I can kill someone before they say a word and it’s too late.. Reinforcements are here or cops are on their way…
And honestly other than cut scenes or the occasional gunman dropping the n word... I felt like just another white protagonist as no one on the street treated me any different... which was odd considering you do deal with the city’s presence of racism later on in the game…
But the racism seems to only be reserved for missions, failing to ultimately bring the world to life..
I feel like those few missions would have been more impactful if I actually got to feel what it was like to be in the shoes of an African American during the mid-60s.. As I’m sure it was far more and far worse than just being called the n word every now and then and only if you were a mobster destroying drugs and shooting places up……
That being said... mafia 3 still has its moments of greatness…
The cut scenes, the characters, the sound tract… and the missions the developers actually tried at, all ultimately make this game worth plaything through…
    I Give Mafia 3
    an 8.0/10

First, Im an open world game fanatic, so take my review with a grain of salt. I can and do disappear into these types of games like Tron!

liking this game immensely. Someone compared it to a Tarantino production and I agree. The open world here is a big improvement over Mafia 2 which seemed kinda dead and empty. Progression is tied to your underbosses ie perks, which is interesting.

Being an old timer, the world building and the music bring me back to my somewhat muddy memories of childhood which is both a blast and nastalgic.

Driving is very solid with good physics and a plethora of vehicle's to choose from. Word of warning tho, at this moment there is no garage to save vehicles in but there is an underboss who will provide rides of limited types that you can unlock.

Combat is satisfying with a very good cover system but the early game I found a little tough due to ammo limitations. Thankfully I puzzled out the game mechanics very quickly (stealth matters!) and worked out the particulars in the very first combat heavy mission. No worries!

The only gripe I have with the game is some but not all of the accents in the game are groan inducing, with Southern being the worst offender. Luckily I quickly grew inured to it. I hope this is of some help!

I was honestly surprised by how many negative reviews this game got. I understand why, but I personally think that the pros out weigh the cons by a lot.

This game has one of the best settings we have seen in a long time. An open world game set in the 1960s in the south during the civil rights movement. So it's very neat to drive around the beautiful open world. Great licensed soundtracks while driving, in cutscenes, and gameplay. Plus, the game's soundtracks are great as well; giving a classic southern gangster feel as you shootout enemies. The voice actors give a great performance in every cutscene in this game. Very likable characters, whether they are antagonist or protagonist. Now, this part I am very confused with. So many people have criticized the gameplay. The driving feels very good, plus the cars are sweet. The gunplay is really good. It is very graphic and satisfying whenever you shoot up the enemies. The stealth is simple, but solid. The melee attacks are prob the best part. You can run up to an enemy and bash their face in and perform a brutal takedown by shooting them in the mouth, gut or head. The violence is very graphic and even disturbing, but that is what makes the gunplay so satisfying.

Now.. this game also has a lot of problems. If I am being biased, I believe that the cons are not too big of a deal. The main flaw with this game that turned everybody off was the repetitive missions. Although it is fun to take the city district by district like a mafia would do, it is very repetitive. Personally this did not bother me much, but it is the main flaw that makes this game from reaching its full potential. Although this is an open world game there are too many glitches. Occasionally the lighting will freak out whenever you enter a building and the mirrors barely even work in this game. Some times it takes a while for the world to load all its details while driving. The AI is not too bad, but it has its moments. Enemies will occasionally see you even if your completely hidden. Police will occasionally get on to you even if you're a mile away from them.

+ Very neat setting, with a beautiful world
    + Fantastic characters and cutscenes
    + Gruesome and satisfying gameplay
+ Classic cars that drive very smoothly
    + Fun boss levels
    + Sweet weapons
+ Fun collectables (more fun if you're a pervert)

+- Graphics are decent for its time
+- AI is not bad, but will break at moments
+- Get great deals from Mafia gangs, but it's not a challenge to earn the deals

    - Repetitive missions, which can potentially lose the appeal to the entire game
    - Too many unacceptable glitches, but at least it's nothing game breaking though
    - Game has no real challenge, has almost the same level of difficulty throughout
    - No fast traveling, which can occasionally be a pain

This game can be very enjoyable for the right person. If you enjoy very mature stories with unique settings, this game is for you. If you don't mind repetitive missions because you're a fan of uncomplicated violent gameplay, this game is for you. Basically saying that if you wished that Quentin Tarantino made video games.. this game is for you. If looking for a game like GTA.. then never get this game. If you can stand it when games are repetitive, then do not get this game.

This is not a great game, but it can be very enjoyable if played by the right person.

The graphics seem to come apart at times, the character in-game look like a cardboard cut-out sometimes and the cars all float LOL. The driving is horrible and the car you drive slides all over the place unless you enter ''slow''-mode. There is no excuse for the crappy driving mechanics because you spend a lot of time on the road in this game and driving should be fun and smooth.

Story line, Graphics, sound track and game mechanics is top notch and the mission management screen is an excellent imaginative solution for a game rich with multiple missions.

But the main plot on what keeps a game - it is and there is desire to show all as "classical" mafia died. Missions for extermination of lieutenants and a cap are unique missions, some at what are perfectly directed. The physics of motor transport is executed is unique, there is no stupid copying from the GTA series. And though in general a game reminds, it is rather a techno demo as in due time was with the first part of Assassin's Creed. It is necessary to remember how successfully there was the 2nd part of that series when have added a variety and integrated these monotonous minor missions into a plot. It will also be possible in Mafia 4, a game that was on sale not badly.
Yes this game not a masterpiece, but comes out not so much games where the setting both on time, and in the scene of action, Louisiana one of the most interesting and mysterious places of the USA is unique.

not a good entry into the series. They replaces realism with arcadey style of play. Vehicles moves much less realistically unlike its predecessors which was the whole appeal of Mafia. Found it hard pleasing all 3 bosses, always one of them would get mad about my decisions or favoring the others. Repetitive execution in combat was annoying

Recomendación: NO LO COMPRES, o juégalo prestado. Me lo agradecerías el no tirar tu dinero.

After playing the saga of Grand Theft Auto, from the first game to the V, through the great San Andreas and Vice City, I get fully into the Mafia saga. I felt at ease for the first two installments, which have immersed me in the world of Cosa Nostra, one of the most legendary mafia eras. With details that were taken care of in the least, from the graphic detail, physical, AI, to the concept of the game, very well taken, and that caused a brutal immersion. Now I find Mafia 3, a title with an even more interesting story, since the mafia has diversified, and set in a post-war period in Vietnam, where there was still a lot of racial segregation. A very attractive character like Lincoln Clay, and a very well made argument, telling us a story of revenge.
It has opted for the open world, a concept that has been used in lots of games, but here, it is very badly applied. Map and world completely dead, practically all missions are the same, do the same thing one and another, and another, and another, and again. Bored to say enough, pure monotony in the fighting, in the "exploration", come, like a FF XIII, but instead of having a corridor, we have a dead world, without the great variety that the previous deliveries had. A game that at 2 or 3 hours, you do not want to play anymore, how boring and monotonous it is. A very bad concept. And this is talking about the game itself.
If we talk about the technical section ... I will contain myself to at least write this review, which hurts itself (but someone has to do it): Bugs of all colors and flavors (revolving doors, the famous "doll mode", crasheos, unbalances in cycles of time, lighting failures, AI that has nothing intelligent, lack of animations, or terrible animations). All the details that in the previous Mafia were as cared for as a baby, here they do not exist. If PC performance is painful, in PS4 it is much worse. I had not played such a big crap since No Man's Sky (and that game was junk), because I do not explain in any other way the 5 crashes I had on PS4.
That is, the game itself sinks. And in what does not sink on the one hand, it sinks on the other, in the form of the repetitiveness that the game has. I am fortunate that they lent it to me, because if I came to buy it, I would have shot myself in the head.
Recommendation: DO NOT BUY IT, or borrow it. You would thank me for not throwing away your money.

Fun game play for the first 2-3 hours. Very repetitive gameplay the rest of the game, though. Felt more like a mobster on Roblox than in this game. Really good and interesting story, though. Wouldn't recommend this game to anyone, if you want to experience the story you can watch all cutscenes on youtube.

Баги,мыло,машины появляются прямо перед тобой,унылый геймплей,тупейший ии,сюжет тупо для галочки.Это позор. НО если уж совсем делать нечего - играть можно.

I really wanted to like this game, but the tropes and stereotypes of blacks and whites were too much to build three dimensional characters and the game breaking glitches (getting stuck in the middle of the wall during a shoot out) made me stop playing the game after about fifteen or so missions. Play the first two but this one is like a b movie combined with a bad indie game

Extremely mediocre. I thought I'd 100% it really quick and delete it because it's the largest game on my HDD. However, I'm almost done with my 2nd playthrough and I have recruited everyone i can and New Boss trophy wont pop. No reason for me to play anymore if the trophy is glitched. I will say it's a much more fulfilling revenge story than TLOU2

Its stealth is too repetitive, its gunfights too familiar, and its driving too boring to support anything else that’s going on. Despite how clever it manages to be in portraying the conquest and control of a criminal enterprise, the nuts-and-bolts missions feel like busywork, and it never fully explores the most interesting aspects of its setting. It’s better than Mafia II, but that’s damning it with faint praise.

This is a game whose best moments are diluted by a torrent of filler, whose beauty is obscured by its technical shortcomings, and whose obvious potential is squandered by a lack of polish. That weird orange sky is, alas, the least of its problems. [Christmas 2016, p.110]

It could have been a really great sandbox for one evening. It’s a shame the developers decided to extend it by over a dozen completely redundant hours, because they had fresh ideas for around one fifth of the campaign and made the rest of the game repetitive as hell. [12/2016, p.48]
