    ---> go to next part of the map, talk to informants, cause damage, kill the ring leader, rinse and repeat with occasional set-pieces that refresh the gameplay loop.

    While I "had" fun with the new installment of the Mafia series, Mafia 3 is a disappointment with it being bland as any other sandbox that doesn't have the flow like Red Dead Redemption. With the very underrated and likable predecessors Mafia and Mafia 2, you'd think this game would take big leaps since it's being utilized under the current consoles. Sadly it's not the case here with MafiaWhile I "had" fun with the new installment of the Mafia series, Mafia 3 is a disappointment with it being bland as any other sandbox that doesn't have the flow like Red Dead Redemption. With the very underrated and likable predecessors Mafia and Mafia 2, you'd think this game would take big leaps since it's being utilized under the current consoles. Sadly it's not the case here with Mafia 3. The game has taken a steps, but the steps are so minor that it doesn't make the game feel any less different than it's predecessors; maybe even less.

    Pros:
    -The World of New Bordeaux is great with live NPC reactions.
    -Gameplay is serviceable
    -Characters are very dimensional and liking
    -Story is superb
    -Graphics are sometimes good. Lighting plays well in affect in some ways. The motion capture though is superb, making every single character alive and very well acted.
    Cons:
    -Mundane missions as you basically do the same stuff over again over the next 20 hours
    -Like I said, Graphics are "sometimes" good, but most of the time its very average and buggy. With low textures and buggy unsettling environment, it ruins the experience a lot.
    -No Fast travel on a semi big map.
    -Driving is very stiff; I know that it's during the late 1960's but Mafia 2 was in the 40's , having better control on their cars, so their no excuse that the cars in Mafia 3 shouldn't drive any better.
    -Money really has no use since the favors you get from Mob bosses gives you better weapons. Maybe upgrades but the game isn't necessarily that hard to play.
    -Everything feels super half-baked in the content department.
    -No customization for Lincoln Clay.
    -Weapons don't really feel any different from one anothe.
    -The sky box pisses me off with it being rainy and dark for one moment then just turns bright and sunny out of no where. There's no flow in this game.

    This game is really an utter disappointment. I'd wait for at least a price drop for 30 bucks. I feel cheated out.    … Expand

    First of all, i would like to say this is a GOOD game, NOT GREAT, but good. Especially if you are a fan of open world action game.

    +Interesting Story and characters +Interesting collectibles (if you know what i mean) +Satisfying gun play and combat +Different car types handle differently +Cool Art style -Side missions and clearing a district sometimes feel like a grind -Graphics    First of all, i would like to say this is a GOOD game, NOT GREAT, but good. Especially if you are a fan of open world action game.

    Overall, this game have some flaws here and there, but the gameplay and story is enjoyable and fun, where GTA is a satirical version of real life places, MAFIA III take itself very seriously, definitely a breathe of fresh air in this genre. If you love open world action games, do yourself a favor and pick this game up.    … Expand

    So all the negative reviews I'm really not understanding. When I first heard about this game I was not expecting a GTA v clone I was expecting mafia 3. For one I think a lot of the hate is coming from the fact that Lincoln is black. Secondly all the pc users coming on here trashing the game because it won't work on their **** PCs. The game surroundings actually makes me feel like I'm in a time machine back in the late 60's. I don't know what people actually expect from games but what pisses me off is that half of these negative reviews are coming from bandwagon gamers. People that are not true gamers and don't really appreciate the value of a good well out together game so they compare a Mafia game to the likes of destiny, call of duty, and grand theft auto. Hey if you don't like the game no one is stopping you from trading it in let us that actually enjoy the game enjoy. And the pansies that don't, well go back to your destiny and call of duty… Expand

    Since my last review, I've played the game for at least another 10 hours. I gave the game a 6/10 based on my early impressions. I hate to admit it, but I may have judge it too quickly and I do apologize for it.

    Even though most of my initial impressions of the game have not changed. The driving is still not the best and the sky box still looks terrible. However, I feel like the lasting impression is what really matters in a game. I find that the driving can be enjoyable if you drive fast cars and also by getting upgrades that improve the car's handling and speed. As I engage in more combat and purchase new weapons, I find that shooting with certain weapons to be quite satisfying compared to my earlier opinion. Taking over territories and killing bosses becomes much more enjoyable with better weapons. Other positive aspects or this game is the story telling cut scenes and the soundtrack, I dare to say that its as good or even better than GTA V's. Mafia 3 is not a perfect game, but scoring it a 0 is absurd and very unfair. My initial score was a 6/10, but after actually giving the game a long more than fair chance, I can easily say that it deserves at very least a 7.5 - 8.    … Expand

    Really beautiful atmosphere, whould call it even inspiring. The soundtrack, the voice acting(german syncro is on point, but i prefer english for more ambient reasons), the lighting and colors, all is really really good.
    I always play more with the heart, less with the ambition.     OK the ridiculousness of these "reviews" went top on this one so instead of review you will have to trust me on saying I have been playing both Mafia and GTA series since the beginning and Im having really good times with this one.How can anyone say graphics are bad is beyond me.In my opinion GTA 5 looks better at some points but Mafia 3 still holds up and character faces are actuallyOK the ridiculousness of these "reviews" went top on this one so instead of review you will have to trust me on saying I have been playing both Mafia and GTA series since the beginning and Im having really good times with this one.How can anyone say graphics are bad is beyond me.In my opinion GTA 5 looks better at some points but Mafia 3 still holds up and character faces are actually better here.Same goes to weather changing and ragdoll effects that are incredibly fun and natural.So far Rockstar games was best at this but this game is at least on a same level if not better.Story Is also very good and quite narrative but that was always the case of Mafia games.And that you play as a black protagonist ? In GTA: San Andreas no one cared so why is it problem now?! Only real difference is that you are more driven by revenge.Little like Punisher which I like :) Plus do I have to mention that racism was pretty big thing turning these times in America?     this franchize is wonderfull specily third game you have to buy it its have got wondrful story and charcters and its realy curtal game that i love it the graphics are good and frame rate is good for this kina game

    Great Game, Story, Characters, Controls, Sound Effects, Etc Etc. Not sure where the low ratings are coming from. This game is highly enjoyable. I play on XB1 and occur no issues at all.

    Fantastic game. Great story and characters, beautiful and vast open world, awesome 60s music. This and uncharted 4 are my favorite games of this year. I really enjoyed Mafia 2 and just love Mafia 3. I actually prefer it to GTA. Why are some people giving the game negative reviews????

    Anything below a 6 is very harsh on this game. This review is for the PS4 version and I'm playing on the launch PS4 and other than a few frame rate drops when travelling over 120 mph I've had no other issues or bugs.

    The music is fantastic, the shooting and the drivings so much better than Mafia 2 and I love all the little detail they put into the game. If actually try walking around you might notice there is interaction and the correct one most time with the abuse Lincoln gets when in certain areas of the city.

    The lighting issues make me laugh. Th swap is very dark place at night... shocker every else is fine and you don't get cross map killed by AI like others try to make out. You can get pretty close without been spotted and I'm not trying say AI perfect because when been stealthy it's too easy go in guns blazing on a crowd and you will go down.    … Expand

    I will be quick. This is a great game with some flaws. The story, acting, design, visuals (graphics are at times mind boggling) is all top notch.

    What is missing, is some mission diversity, more difference amongst feeling or damage from weapons, and more overall customizations.

    This is a solid game and I am sure most people will like it.

    Amazing Game! Good history, graphics, gameplay, massive open world, not like GTA or any other game.
    Not so perfect at all, this game have some bugs and 30 fps look for now.
    Fantastic game, buy it if you like mafia games or amazing games!

Dont listen to the haters, either theyre saying this game is GTA rip off or theyre saying that it has nothing to do with mafia, I gave the game a 10 because it has everything, great story, great combat and the city looks so good at night!!! The main thing that is amazing about this game is the story and the way its told is really fantastic, it feels like a movie,This game is amazing!!!     Theres not alot to complain about i dont understand the zeros or 2s or 3s but i never do, ive never played a aaa game that truly deserved a zero and ive played alot of games in 30 years of gaming.     graphics suffer infrequent tearing and glitches on ps4 - not a big problem.
    storyline is excellent as is the soundtrack. Storyline is good enough to make you want to progress it rather than explore the world.     A very mature game with a very compelling story. The game story is very good and is a revenge dish best served any old way. If you can look past the surface brutal language, nudity and action, you will see a very real depiction of southern behavior in the late sixties married to a mob story. The developers even warn you that the game will be rough, but to tone it down would be to cheat people. Whitewashing history serves no one, people really behaved the way they do in this game no matter how you want to try and soften it. It is what it is.
    I like the cut scenes, where the story is being filled in, between what you are doing.
    The only negative I would say at this point is that there seems to be some technical issues. I saw some wonky lighting effects. I also saw some that were pretty neat, such as headlights off a wet street. I know they are trying, we have to accept that. For the most part they delivered well. I would also say that while the game looks good, it is not this gen great. It looks like it could be at home on the last gen consoles. But that is not necessarily a bad thing. Considering how many companies are reaching back and profiting off of 8 and 16 bit type games. The most important thing is the story, which is really really good. I am playing on a PS4.

The sound is great, the graphics are great, there is actually a story which is compelling and means something. This is a quality game! Get it. In my opinion more FUN than GTA. Moreover, the storyline is very intriguing, it incites the player to go on to know how it ends.     Great game, has some issues as a result of the limited fps. Anyone who says this games graphics are bad is a retard or just stupid. This game has one of the best facial animations i have ever seen. some areas in the game don't look as good as other but the game as a whole looks beautiful

    Game is great! Its a bit dark and really racist but that is there to show the life of a black man in 1968. Driving mechanics are good, you can do drive-bys and stuff, steering is a bit rough though. Gunplay is well-made and the guns sound real and the kill animations are on point. The music is SO good with a ton of music from Lincoln's time period. The story is really good and the voiceGame is great!     Look lets just get this out here right now...ITS NOT GTA but if you already know that its a solid game great cut scenes music and I like the story and the 60's. It also makes it real with the racism they did not play sensitive rather a Quentin Tarantino approach.The gameplay could be better but atleast its not bad like Homefront!!!

    My impression of mafia 3 is incredible, the story mixed with the soundtrack works so well to make you feel apart of the mission - to get revenge on the white supremacists. Its also very good at making you feel a victim, you have shop keepers and civilians calling you **** and coon, the main missions are brutal and intense. I just done a mission to take down one of the kingpins in anMy impression of mafia 3 is incredible, the story mixed with the soundtrack works so well to make you feel apart of the mission - to get revenge on the white supremacists. Its also very good at making you feel a victim, you have shop keepers and civilians calling you **** and coon, the main missions are brutal and intense. I just done a mission to take down one of the kingpins in an amusement park that was partially flooded and it was so creepy, the walls were alive with animated depictions of priests warding off the monsters which were depicted as black people - this while being hunted down by the white people was terrifying.
    That aside the gameplay is great, driving is realistic, the city is alive, there are lots of buildings you can go into to create short cuts when on foot, or break in to get a collectible or steal some money from the back room of a shop. There is also the typical side missions which comes with open world such as rescuing black women who are slaves at brothels, and taking down white supremacist drug dealers and taking over the land to generate income. There is also a deep faction control which im yet to explore deeper where you can gain radio perks to 'phone in' a van that will allow you to purchase weapons, upgrades, and car mods. So far its up there around a 9/10 from me
    I was reading some uncompleted reviews and they seem to be focusing on graphics, and i think some people dont like how it depicts white people because its very confronting in how real and brutal it is. The cut scenes also show photos and some footage of real events which are very shocking. So i guess most people with no understanding of the impact of the past would find it offensive.    … Expand

    The world needs more devs like the ones responsible for Mafia III. Really great setting and characters that remind us of all the racism that was bad back then just as it is today. Video games don't get a free pass in that regard just because they're entertainment. I thank the devs for delivering this amazing game, I just hope they fix the few technical issues.

    Its stealth is too repetitive, its gunfights too familiar, and its driving too boring to support anything else that’s going on. Despite how clever it manages to be in portraying the conquest and control of a criminal enterprise, the nuts-and-bolts missions feel like busywork, and it never fully explores the most interesting aspects of its setting. It’s better than Mafia II, but that’s damning it with faint praise.

    It could have been a really great sandbox for one evening. It’s a shame the developers decided to extend it by over a dozen completely redundant hours, because they had fresh ideas for around one fifth of the campaign and made the rest of the game repetitive as hell. [12/2016, p.48]
