    Too many pointless and annoying talking, commenting, chatting in background. Combat system as in first installment is clunky (camera is too close, field of view is too narrow, Alloy's movement is slow, machines are too jumpy), even though there is a plethora of new moves and abilities. I recomend to ease combat difficulty to negate pointless number crunching part of the game. More thingsToo many pointless and annoying talking, commenting, chatting in background. I recomend to ease combat difficulty to negate pointless number crunching part of the game. More things to gather and craft, what for? It's not a survival or immersive sim. Half of the map is a boring desert, as in Zero Dawn.

    Horizon Zero Dawn was one of my favorite PlayStation exclusives, so I was really looking forward to this game. But oh boy this was a huge disappointment.
    After five years, this is really the best Guerrilla has come to?
    The graphics are the only real positive, which are the exact same as the first game. The story is a disaster: really boring, uninteresting, lame, and also plain    Horizon Zero Dawn was one of my favorite PlayStation exclusives, so I was really looking forward to this game. But oh boy this was a huge disappointment.
    After five years, this is really the best Guerrilla has come to?

    The graphics are the only real positive, which are the exact same as the first game.

    The story is a disaster: really boring, uninteresting, lame, and also plain ridiculous at some point. Halfway through, I wished it was over because it was really THAT unbearable. No spoilers, but it wasn't good at all. Also, why there's a one-hour-long tutorial?!
    The new characters introduced in the story were really not that interesting; thankfully, we get to see some of my favorites of the old game. Aloy's character also worsened, being more "bossy" and know-it-all (even while playing she tells you every 5 seconds what to do and what not, incredibly irritating).

    To make it worse, every cutscene is dragged for far too long, it really gets tiring real quick. Everyone in this game talks so much that it gets super boring to listen to, and this was also in the side quests, by the way.
    I'm not even going to touch on how the current people of this world are talking and expressing themselves like living in 2022 and not in a post-apocalyptic setting. That ruined most part of the atmosphere for me to the point that I skipped every dialog not related to the main story.

    Gameplay-wise, it's almost identical to the first game, which isn't a bad thing. They also added the option to swim underwater and fly on robot birds. New weapons and new abilities.
    Great, isn't it? Obviously no, because the somehow made the combat experience even worse. For example, every time an enemy hits you, you get knocked down and stunned for almost three seconds, making the combat really frustrating and not fun. The melee combat, which was already clunky in the first game, ended up being EVEN MORE clunky, and this really shows up in the Melee Pits.

    The new overworld things such as "Machines strikes" or races were added, in my opinion, just because to. They all look pretty eh, not interesting but not terrible either.

    Finally, optimization speaking. Now, this game was probably (and rightfully) made to be played on PS5. But the optimization for ps4 is terrible. The game crashed my PlayStation 2 times and I had multiple times frame drops, especially while fighting rebel camps. Not to mention, also incredibly long loading times.

    All in all, this game was a super disappointment. I'm really saddened that the prequel was miles and miles better than this one. There are probably even other bad and boring things i have not touched on right now because i got tired of writing this essay.
    This is easily one of PlayStation's worse and forgettable exclusives. At full price, I would recommend this only to the die-hard fan of the first game. But for everyone else, just wait for a discount, or don't play it at all, it's not that big of a deal honestly.    … Expand

    The graphics are outstanding in this game. The combat is fine just like the first game. Repetitive quests, too many cutscenes, and the story are kinda bland. You need to grind in this game which isn't a problem if you're doing different activities to earn but in this game, you keep doing the same thing.

    I finished the game after 51 hours and i must say i enjoyed it a lot ,loved the gameplay even tho its nothing new in this gaming genre,the story was kinda meeh but i loved aloys character even more ,great music during battle ,they developed the original gameplay even more ,the environment is beautiful great graphics and the world is alive with animals etc - great experience in general

    Me encantó, es básicamente el primer juego pero mejorando en todos sus aspectos, Aloy me parece lo mejor del juego pero sentí que varios personajes me parecen de alguna forma genéricos pero el entorno y el concepto sigue igual de fantástico que el primero, una secuela que cumplió bastante

    With all the titanic work done with models and animations = a terrible boring, dull and stupid game with absurd dialogues and just stupid dialogues.

    All open-world games have turned into gum for idiots.
    Not one new idea or something, so that after half an hour it doesn't get boring. Modern AAA games are wasted time.
    And only Indies are sometimes surprised, but they lack elaboration of details and quality.

    All the screenwriters are extinct, like dinosaurs.
    There were only "effective managers" and "character designers" or "clothing designers" - I don't know.
    But definitely not game designers. They didn't even touch this game, didn't even see it, and didn't even pass by to give the developers a slap on the head.
    Play ENSLAVED Odyssey to the West or Genshin Impact instead.

    But not in this **** which is not even 10% the level of Sony and PS.

    There is no limit to my indignation. With all the typical beauty
    of "HORIZON FORBIDDEN WEST", the eyes get used to it after 10 minutes and the game does not even try to surprise.

    Absolutely everything in it is done on the dump, probably except for the model of the main character and animation. Only Ubisoft can do worse.

    So a new fashion has also gone, when the games are completely different for the first 2 hours and after 2 hours. The first 2 hours of the game may even be interesting, but not later. All so that you can't get the money back.
    This game shows right away how lame it is and you realize that 100 hours of repetitions are waiting for you.

    Oh, yes, all over the world of the game, everyone knows who the heroine is and what she did in the last part. Are they sure they don't have SMS there?

    And I'll add 1 point for the fact that this game runs on PS4 at all.    … Expand

    Para mi es un juegazo. el nivel de detalle es increíble, la historia me enganchó desde el principio. Agradezco que las misiones secundarias no se hagan pesadas, o repetitivas. cada una tiene su pequeña historia con sus distintos personajes. Llevo 60h de juego, y me sigue sorprendiendo. Mi único pero es(lo estoy jugando en la ps4 FAT) pantallas de carga repentinas si vas montada en ciertaPara mi es un juegazo. el nivel de detalle es increíble, la historia me enganchó desde el principio. Si bien hay algún que otro detallé técnico que flaquea como el sistema de combate cuerpo a cuerpo (que si bien mejora con respecto al primero) falta pulido o el sistema de escalado, no hay ninguno que te saque de la experiencia que te quieren ofrecer. La historia es un 10/10 (en mi opinión), vi muchas oportunidades en las cuales abrían podido optarUn juego Maravilloso eso por empezar...     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. i just love how most of the reviews on here are one day after the game came out, where the ppl could not have possible finished the game and they are giving it a bad review

    just so ppl know i am playing this game on a base PS4 and yes i have seen a few bugs but they are few and far between and have e a few friends that have the game on PS5 and they say the same thing

    the graphics even on a base PS4 are great and from what i have played of the story that is also leading to great things as well i would highly recommend this game to anyone

    EDIT: I have just finished the story to this game and it is very good, after the credits, the world changes to show what you have done in the main story quests which were not in the first game and I think is a good addition can't wait for the 3rd game to come out and see what happens in the story still would highly recommend to anyone    … Expand

    So I have only played around 6 hours, but it has the same feel for me than its predecessor, which I loved and completed 2 times, what I rarely do. So for me, since it's pretty much the same as the first game with more of everything I'm all in. The areas look more diverse, you get cool new gadgets, much more to do (which is also overwhelming I must admit) and they added swimming underSo I have only played around 6 hours, but it has the same feel for me than its predecessor, which I loved and completed 2 times, what I rarely do. So for me, since it's pretty much the same as the first game with more of everything I'm all in. The areas look more diverse, you get cool new gadgets, much more to do (which is also overwhelming I must admit) and they added swimming under water. This franchise still is one of the best I played in my 40 year gamer career.

    For me everything works in this game minus the 30 fps on ps4pro. I recommend it.

    Edit: Played a lot more and still very good game. What I really dislike is the camera, while concentrating it zooms in and sometimes vegetation, walls and other stuff blocks your view. Then riding on the mount could be smoother (stops sprinting instantly) when you run over rocky terrain or past objects like trees.    … Expand

Whatever, I played this on a base PS4 & it is an amazing looking game. There are many improvements over the first game. Plants now have animations when you move through them, cut scenes & character/facial animations are MUCH better, you can swim under water & it looks amazing, Spoiler: you eventually aquire a breathing apparatus which is awesome, Spoiler: you also eventually aquire a flying mount which is cool considering all other mounts are surprisingly slow! Seriously, I think Aloy can sprint faster than any mounts other than the Sunwing! Doesn’t make sense… Expand

    Gostei da evolução em relação ao primeiro, game muito bom, mundo aberto rico e bonito.
    A história é bem interessante também. O game evoluiu em tudo, em relação ao Zero Dawn.

    Um ponto que me incomodou, foi em relação a Aloy. Que as vezes ela leva um golpe, e demora muito pra levantar. Para um game com gameplay rápida, isso acaba atrapalhando.

    Another great game by Gorilla games, it's a huge leap forward in terms of graphics, gameplay, story, characters ETC. And the world is absolutely incredible! The game is full of details and love... Performance on a PS4 PRO is pretty good as well.

Travel, activities, plot, side quests, characters.. And what a visual the game has, it's incredible. Everything turned out cool and interesting. I thank the developers for the work done.     Amazing game that is getting review bombed by angry Russians! With side quests, the arena and hunters challenges there is over 70 hours worth of content. The story is great, the fighting is good more complicated than the first which has its ups and downs, and it’s just all around more polished than the first game.     This game is looking extraordinary. Guerilla made this one better in every way. Better graphics, better story, better gameplay. It has some glitches regarding the graphic like collision missing between Aloy and various objects. But the game feels so good once you get the pulse of the environment, and the story is glued nice also. I'll invest many many hours to complete it without rushing anything.

    I played the PS4 version which looked great, but felt a bit lacking the controls department, mainly swimming and fighting flying enemies. Whenever I had to fight a Sunwing or Stormbird the camera would be kinda hard t control/work with because the view from below was often questionable with grass/debris/trees/Aloy in the way. You can definitely work with it, but it wasn't always very good.
    Last but not least I wouldn't mind if the next game was a little less bloated in terms of "Here, have 28 different kinda of bows with 5+ different qualities and now collect stuff to upgrade them all". That was a bit excessive.
    All in all 7.5-8 for me, good fun and well worth the money.    … Expand

    I just happened upon Horizon Zero Dawn about six months after it was released. It wasn’t my type of game I had normally played. After finishing the entire game… I think I cried (don’t judge). I immediately needed a sequel. It was the most unbelievable game and when I heard that Horizon Forbidden West was coming I about lost it. This journey with Aloy and the amount of creativity andI just happened upon Horizon Zero Dawn about six months after it was released. It wasn’t my type of game I had normally played. After finishing the entire game… I think I cried (don’t judge). I immediately needed a sequel. It was the most unbelievable game and when I heard that Horizon Forbidden West was coming I about lost it. This journey with Aloy and the amount of creativity and attention to detail (in all aspects) is mind blowing. I am only about 50% done at the moment, but I love how many layers they keep adding to her journey to save mankind. This game is like watching a blockbuster movie that you get to immerse yourself in. Granted, I am on the PS4 still so my grade of a 9 is for one little area in particular. I feel the graphics are incredible and I can only imagine how they are on PS5, but in the low light scenarios in the PS4 version, I feel the detail is muddy and a little lacking. Particularly in the blue and red scenes (which there are a lot of). I am a photographer so graphics and details are important to me. Not to mention photomode. I have spent countless hours just photographing the scenery. It’s breathtaking and very accurate! (Im from the West Coast). They included so many National Parks and i love it. I cannot imagine the amount of time that went into this. You can tell that everyone who worked on it is passionate about Aloy’s story and how much they wanted to get every detail right. Yes, there are a few bugs in its first week but that is expected of any new game. This game is absolutely incredible and I cannot wait to find out the ending.… Expand

    The game has everything going for it, don’t judge games if they are not your type of genre, this game has many enemy types, fun gameplay, a amazing story that takes you on a rollercoaster ride, beautiful graphics and designs.

    I always find climbing something to know where I am a chore in a game. The radio towers in this game are okay, but still this game design component was never something I could be a fan of.

    Hunting is about the same as the old game, just a few more tricks.

    After playing for a few hours, I requested a refund as it felt like the iterative steps this took towards improving the gameplay from the last game still left me feeling like the experience was a chore and was not worth my time. Also Aloy is not a character I felt was relatable or that I could feel personally invested in, which is why I give this a 7 overall. Good graphics and environments is not enough, gameplay must be the standing legs to make a game good, and this was just okay.    … Expand

    Great sequel! The game takes the best from the first one and still improved the gameplay. The open world is really cool to explore and the sidequests are a nice way to spend some time playing.

    The gameplay experience was wonderful, the fighting mechanics and face mimics were great, and a very interesting story with lots of unexpected moments. The graphic on my Playstation 4 Pro was running absolutely great, only with two bugs that I remember. The side quests were one of the things guerilla games improved a lot in the sequel. Side missions are as good as main ones, the game is addictive!!!

    Just simply not a very good game. Little to no story. Most content is missable and untracked.

    Very outdated and disappointing on accessibility. Unimpressive visual and audio design. Sluggish combat. Stupid climbing. Janky horse. Poor optimization and performance despite very minimal technical ambition. Lots of lazy corners cut, like the slideshow opening.

    Disapointment of the year. This game is to buggy to be this long. And runs terribly on the PS4 Pro. After 80 hours of game time and reaching level 50 I am finally giving up without even finishing the story.

And the wonderful art direction, splitted in different biomes makes wonderful landscapes like the first game.The variety of forbidden west it's impressive the amount of tribes and machines is good and they are all very different from each other.The things i didn't liked is for first....yeah im sorry but the story is not good at the level of the first one.That's because the first one was misterious and then they explained everything in the first game leaving the second one witha basic plot.Always speaking about narrative the charatchers are not well written and they have not much screen time.The aloy hair animation is not good as the others and sometimes textures in cutscenes takes a while to charge.

    After 20 hours with HZFW i am ready to uninstall this piece of garbage.     Just okay... I kind of have a gripe with them copypasta'ing all enemy types from the first game, and I don't like the voice over audio sourcing.

    Not much more to say so far... the gameplay is as you would expect from the first game and is serviceable in that case.

If you love melee with an option for complete stealth play, this is the game for you. Only draw back, was I was upset someone died.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Guerrilla Games did something that isn't common, made a sequel that far outpaces its predecessor by miles. Horizon Zero Dawn was already a vastly interesting game with very charismatic characters and a backstory you were dying to learn everything about. Horizon Forbidden West kept me coming back time and time again reading every little data point to learn more about this fleshed-out world.

    The side characters felt unique not only in their appearance, most of the time, but in their personality. While I can only remember a hand full of names of those characters cause I suck at names, their missions will stick with me for a long time. The new companions Aloy brings in, with a couple of them being just old friends, brought a new side to the game that felt fresh providing them with their own side missions to complete to make their relationship with you stronger. However, I do wish this was expanded upon a bit more adding more weight to completing their missions than just individual character growth through cutscenes. While done beautifully I feel their missions were last-minute additions with no real set goal in mind for them aside from just doing them.

    When it comes to the map of Horizon Zero Dawn it was massive but never felt undoable at any given time and the sections of each tribe's border were obvious without being just slated on there like in Saint Row. In Horizon Forbidden West the map's size felt very daunting, especially with how much there was to do in the tiny section of Chainscrape. While moving through the story and doing many side missions, including collectibles, I was able to open up many of the spots but it never felt doable to complete everything until the near end when you are able to fly around, allowing the opening up the remainder of the map a lot easier and safer.

    The story in Horizon Zero Dawn started out as your typical chosen one-style story but quickly turned that on its head by having a legitimate reason this outcast is the only one who can save the world, or in that game's case tribe. In Horizon Forbidden West it starts out with what the stakes are in the game early on as it throws you back into the world with just a quick explanation that these red vines are growing all over the place and killing everything they come in contact with, plants and animals alike. Going forward the stakes stay the same of the world being at risk but with the enemy changing multiple times. First Sylens and his mysterious agenda, to Regalia and her rebels getting in your way to the real bad guys Far Zenith and their near-impossible invulnerability. But just like before they were able to weave all of these characters together in some way that fit the whole story being told and felt natural.

    The machines in Horizon Zero Dawn always felt tough when fighting but you knew you could just power through with slight strategy and come out the victor, you will use quite a few potions but you would win no matter what. In Horizon Forbidden West they make sure to beat that strategy out of you, you will NEED to utilize every type of trap and weapon in order to take down the bigger enemies or you will end up running away after using all your potions and health items and still not completely taken down the enemy. The newer machines introduced were awesome to see and very fun to figure out and fight but sometimes felt a bit unfair if you get caught up in fighting two of them at once and they just put you into a hit cycle that prevents you from healing.

    Overall Horizon Forbidden West was a fantastic game that I plan on spending even MORE hours into just to get everything else done and give the game my highest compliment of acquiring the Platinum Trophy. There are issues the game does have that cause it to suffer quite a bit like random visual buts like texture popping mostly but that only lasts a few seconds and while taking you out for a bit doesn't happen enough to really matter much. The other issue I had was with the character Beta feeling very annoying, I hated this character and cringed every time I had to interact with her. The story also felt like there was some padding at points like when going to get the Aether and you end up getting roped into a civil war within the Tennakuh, while this provides you with an additional ally it felt like it dragged a bit at times.    … Expand

    First off it looks absolutely beautiful. I loved the first game but this one has insane amounts of performance issues. Probably about 5 hrs in the frame rate during combat dropped to an unplayable level, even exploration is frustrating now. I’m very disappointed and I’m hoping they fix it soon. The technical issues have turned what should be an amazing game into a massive headache.

    Started playing it today on PS4. About 3 hours in and loving it just like the original. Yes it is a little glitchy but these are all things that will get sorted with future patches. Yes Aloy is still Social Justice Warrior-ish. The graphics are fantastic. The gameplay is awesome. A great single player game in a Battle Royale world.

Aloy gets stuck in every stone and step, while jumping all the time strives to cling to some kind of ledge, from which you can still unhook in the heat of battle, and opponents even when you are level 50 can at a random moment make you a one-shot - the last time the wavebiter killed me like that was in the last cauldron - it’s just that at the next roll he decided that his usual attack should take all his health. Fights with several opponents are generally quiet horror. It's easier to fight a thunderbolt in a wasteland than two snaptooths in a small rocky arena. Opponents attack on cooldown, and sometimes, performing an attack at the same time can make a "one-shot". The situation is similar with people here - it is easier to fight effectively with one elite than with a crowd of archers. Human bosses are something too. The battle with the Fortress (the final quest of the arena) comes down to randomness. Whether she decides in the second phase of the battle to draw her bow and fire an uninterrupted and unblockable series of shots point-blank, or she will carry through and just have to dodge a melee attack - the outcome of the battle depends on this.

    I don't think that I am one of the worst players on the console, but even if you look at the leaderboards of the arena (where you have to fight with machines), then the first (1 out of 5), the easiest test - only 200 people passed it! After that, I decided to finish the story and score on all side activities.
    Good equipment can save the situation with a fight, but in order to buy and upgrade it, you will have to suffer for hours trying to knock out the right parts. Firstly, you need to find the right car, secondly, take away a special part from it, and thirdly, fill up the car itself (not all parts go astray). There are no problems with light and frequently encountered machines (apart from the fact that the part still needs to be hit). But what to do with thunderstorms and machines of this class? You will have to fill up not one such car, but several. Each will have to spend several minutes of battle, and even more to collect the necessary resources! And some cars still need to be found! In general, if in the first part you had to collect equipment for hours, then here you will have to spend days, and if you don’t have a vacation, weeks to collect all the equipment!
    Quests here for the most part are not interesting, neither the main plot, nor the side ones. There are exceptions, but in general it all boils down to the fact that, for example, they tell you about a couple of lovers, and after 5-10 minutes a tragedy - the guy died. Well, why should I care? I knew him? Maybe his personality was described by other quests? No. This quest could be put into some datapoint that could be read. And so almost everywhere.
    The open world from the point of view of its study is made poorly - all this need to grind resources and go through uninteresting quests to anyone simply kills it. If Zero Dawn you could even vacuum it in a day, then it will take about a week to kill it here.
    And a small review about the main plot and the world of Horizon as a whole. If in the first part we were clearly given to understand that the Forerunners were not far from our time culturally and somewhat even technologically, then with the introduction of new information about the technological development of mankind into the plot, some kind of nostalgia disappeared or something. After passing the game, I got the feeling that this is not all about you and me and not about a possible path for the development of mankind.
    In general, I advise you to go through the game only the main plot, the missions of "partners" and the camps (not outposts) of the rebels. Play at the "narrative" level. At a minimum, this will allow you to miss 80 percent of the negative points.    … Expand

    This was worth the 5-year wait for me. Graphics are beautiful on the PS4 Pro and, so far, no bugs for me 10+ hours in. Smooth and snappy controls and combat is great (better than the first game) as usual. IMHO Guerilla Games knocked this one out the the park.

I did encounter fall through the world three times in exactly the same spot, but all three times it was less than a minute after saving. The open world feels really interesting with a ton of content everywhere I went. The gameplay vastly improved over the first game with new features like a grappling hook and being able to swim underwater. They also made the melee combat way better than it was in the original. I thought the story was good, but not as good as the original. The villains were not that interesting or developed, although some new supporting characters were pretty good. The graphics were really good for a ps5 game released on the ps4, although I have played plenty of games with better graphics. The ending is not great as it just sets up for another sequel. Overall, I think it is better than the first game, but it is far from being perfect.… Expand

    Ive been playing fot a bit after work everyday this week so far and im loving every minute of it it feals and like horizon zero dawn on steroids and i love that. The combat is smooth and flows perfectly (Imo) wether your fighting one enemy or several at once. The story so far both main and all tge side stuff keeps my attention. It looks beautiful and the cutscens are wonderfully done

    The game put us out of the misery! Most amazing job in the post Uncharted era. Script based players will be amazed by the story outline and the action oriented gameplay.

    Looks very nice on base PS4, with the ocassional bugs o FPS drops Glad I'm able to play this masterpiece even on last gen.

    This game is a absolute console-killer... It caused my console to crash 3 times within the first 5 hours of gameplay... If you want to use your console in the future as well, better not play this game...

    And the game itself feels unfinished to top all of.     This game is awesome! I loved Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West improves on the first game in almost every way! I’m not going to say this game does a whole lot of new things, but instead intelligently takes things that work from other hit games and puts them together in a great story with crisp controls, and out of this world graphics! What does Horizon do well? - Target parts ofThis game is awesome! I loved Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West improves on the first game in almost every way! I’m not going to say this game does a whole lot of new things, but instead intelligently takes things that work from other hit games and puts them together in a great story with crisp controls, and out of this world graphics! What does Horizon do well? - Target parts of machines to gather parts or hinder the machine for an easier take down (kind of like Metroid prime did, but better and more advanced) - Track enemies or animals using your senses (like the Witcher 3, but again improved) - complete puzzles like uncharted or Tomb raider
    - constantly improve gear to be able to backtrack and open previous roadblocks, or go to new areas unable to reach before
    - greatly improved skill trees give a more personalized experience and better RPG feel
    -plenty of weapons and better crafting system than before, die your gear, give weapons additional traits, more outfits, more special moves
    -cooking buffs, more quests, more tribes, more NPC’s, more machines
    -immensely improved melee combat with wicked combos and special abilities
    -simple well laid out buttons and HUD
    -mini games like hunting trials, fighting pits, a board game, time trials …..

    Game has plenty of content, I am currently 26hours in and have been focused on completing side quests and random tasks and am at 30% completion. I don’t write reviews often but needed to simply because I am having such a good time with this! Hope this helps!    … Expand

    J'avais bien aimé le premier opus, ce nouvel episode est encore plus joli. L'histoire est vraiment entrainante, avec pas mal de quetes annexes, de jolis graphismes et une bonne fluidité de jeu.

    There’s nothing wrong with learning from your competitors, but what’s the point of copying stuff that’s mocked even by Ubisoft fans? Hopefully, next time Guerrilla will focus more on Horizon’s own strengths: unique world and mechosaurs that are so fun to take apart. [Issue#259, p.72]

    If you liked Zero Dawn, you will probably enjoy Forbidden West, even though the sequel lost that pioneering spirit and Aloy stopped developing as a character.

    Horizon Forbidden West embraces everything about its predecessor and makes strides in producing an even more compelling world to explore, with intense combat and story moments, and shiny new robo-dinosaurs to punch in the face. I cannot wait to see where Aloy and her companions’ story goes next.
