Combat is fun, until you find yourself battling the camera as well as the enemies (who pop up at super frequent intervals making exploration a pain). Characters all have one major personality trait/driving motivation: revenge. Comparing this to an open world like RDR2 which is equally beautiful and has basically one mechanic (shooting) yet still has a far more emotionally compelling story and far more complex characters, Ghost of Tsushima falls far short. 10/10 for visual splendor, 6.5-7/10 for everything else. A nearly perfect game, fantastic art, music, story, gameplay, setting, etc. a wonderful story to explore. My only gripe is my choices had little effect on the game itself, but as a story telling game goes this is an absolute gem.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "With its satisfying gameplay and solid lifespan (about 30-40 hours), Ghost of Tsushima is another quality exclusive for the PS4. It knows how to reuse mechanics and fundamentals established by other licenses, and give them its own personal touch. And what a touch. It's not just an Assassin's Creed in Japan: it has its own visual code and almost cinematographic atmosphere, and the sublime island of Tsushima naturally replaces some of the interface elements. The whole game is infused with poetry, which is rather bold for a mainstream title. However, we regret the big weaknesses on a few fundamental points, as it lacks variety regarding the points of interest, the fights and especially the duels, which, combined with an ill-fitting difficulty, wearied us at the end. Nevertheless, it remains a very good experience and a game full of personality Expand

Detailed and extensive skill tree to suit many different play styles although I found I generally stuck to a limited few simply because they were effective.

Occasional graphical “bleeds” ie...grass outside a tent or structure popping through solid walls...but nothing major and easily lived with.

Jin or 'the ghost' is a great protagonist and at first comes of a bit generic but grows as a character as you progress the the game.
the first act is a bit slow as it basically just introduces the side characters. Yuna is a great companion and is an interesting character, Lord Shimura is a very well written character and is Jin's main father figure in the game (Jin watched his father die when he was young).
The combat is perhaps the best part about this game. The combat is exciting and offers a lot of potentially badass moments. As you progress through the story you unlock new skills, stances, and weapons, which helps the combat feel refreshing and stops it becoming too repetitive.
I don't want to spoil to much about this game so I will keep this review short. I hope you found this review helpful.

You can plan attacks when entering the various mongol bases in a variety of ways. Take out watchers by bow, sneak in from the roofs and start picking enemies off one by one as if you were Batman. Use darts one of which can 6 there are many ways to approach each situation.

The world is beautiful where you can just follow smoke in the sky to a camp, follow the wind to new destinations, follow the foxes to shrines, follow the birds, gateways and other environmental clues that makes it feel so much more immersive.

i played act 1 with japanese dialogue and no subtitles to be fully imersed but there was one huge problem. the dialogue and subtitles dont match. i understand translating is hard (beleive me i know) but by the end of act 1 i hardly knew what was going on. so i decided to turn on subtitles and it didnt match up at all. i dont recomend japanese dialogue without subtitles at all.
the combat is really fun and never gets dull. the ghost part of the game is completly uneeded though. i played on hard and ths game was very easy. at the start it was really hard but as soon as i upgraded my sword and got a bow the game was a breeze. so that means i never had to use the ghost weapons let alone stealth. in fact stealth would just be slower so i never did. if i never feel the need to use ghost weapons why should i? this game is way too easy and needs a difficulty boost if you are going to make me use the ghost weapons
that is is a really big issue because the entire story revolves around you having to use "dishonourable" because the mongols ae such a big threat. problem is they are easy af to kill and i never once had to use the ghost weapons.
you are supposed to fear the mongols but i cant take them seriously when a woman in her 50's takes on like 6 of them and wins. i was more scared of the ronin than the mongols. the game gets harder by giving them more health but this is explained with them having more armour but them that gets thrown out the window when the ronin are the strongest sword units in the game and all they're wearing at cloths. the mongols are a joke and seriously hurt the story for me.
there are many smaller issues like it not being historcly accurate or the mongals not using bows more, flaming swords (the fire would completly mess up the metal) and terrain glitches.
if the combat wasnt as good as it was i would probobly give this game a 7 but the combat is just so fun and amzing it makes this game worht playing. the story is decent and it has decent sidecharacters and oerall i would recomend this game. i think the 83 critic score is fair and this game is not a 9.2. i would say its better than horizon zero dawn but not god of war. this game has exellent sequal potentiel and i cant wait for the legends update. i recomend this game but its not a system seller

My maaaaaain issue was the camera, this game has no camera lock-in to enemies and would clip into objects if you fight near them. This would make some fights so annoying because you might not hit enemies a lot of times. Over all it is a good game, more on the casual side, good for open world exploration and enjoying the combat styles, definitely great for those who already love traditional samurai stories. 8/10 I'll keep playing it casually from time to time til I unlock everything and get all the collectables. Suckerpunch really put the player first with this game, and it shows. The only complaint is that there may not be enough gameplay variety to satisfy players indefinitely.

I loved it from the beginning, on the PS4 Pro its by far the most beautiful game I played until now. I'm still amazed by the story, especially the ending.

    Control
GoS has excellent controls and some of the best sword combat ever made. Incorporating actual kendo/iaido techniques this game is the closest thing to having a real samurai experience there is so far in any video game. The inventory/weapon selection system takes some time to get used to but before long, becomes second nature.

    Graphics
GoS has some of the best the graphics on any console, and is probably tied with Red Dead Redemption 2 as the best looking game for the PS4. GoS has a very unique and beautiful art style that really enhances the atmosphere and the immersion.

    Sound
The music perfectly fit’s the atmosphere and sounds much like what you would expect from a samurai film. Sound effects, like striking with the katana, have the appropriate sound/feel of weight.

    Story
GoS’s has an excellent story. The plot revolves around bushido and the conflict that arises when strict adherence to that code prevents the protagonist, Jin, form being able to defend his homeland. The secondary characters have a number of quests that I was genuinely interested in following.

Rarely have I played a game as enjoyable and well-made as Ghost of Tsushima. The attention to detail is truly impressive and the result is the very best in quality (and fun) in all areas.

The successful game company like Infamous, considered one of the exclusives that started Sony's dominance over the console gaming market, reached the RAPTURE OF PERFECTION, successfully.
Breaking records, showing a new type of gameplay, using the best of the console, having beautiful landscapes, an attractive story, a beautiful soundtrack, hot springs, and foxes, yes, foxes, birds and dogs ....
"But do you have to kill dogs?" No, the game allows you to RECRUIT THE DOGS Rather than KILL THEM, see, this is not a great idea?
Playing Ghost Of Tsushima is better than killing dogs, in a dysfunctional world, full of dubious creatures, poorly rendered, with the story of a cowardly girl, Joel was wrong, too late, humans.
Anyway, returning to the game of the year, with 90% approval from video game users, Ghost Of Tsushima is chosen as Sony's most profitable game of the year in years
With an advantage, the game was released, (it was announced, and released, without LONG delays)
Ghost Of Tsushima enabled the work of thousands of people and endured the hours of gambling in Lockdown of Millions, thank you. I wish you a vaccine and Ghost of Tsushima, for you and a friend in the new CO-OP Mode of the game

Only thing I would say I dislike is the main side quests feel a little long after a while, most could have been shortened a slight bit. Overall this is easily in my top 3 PS4 games of all time, maybe even being number 1. I was originally planning on rating it 9/10 but after I played Legends the game proved itself to me as amazing. I don't really have enough words to describe how good this experience is, please buy it to show the game industry how well a game can succeed with good ethical developers behind it. Ghost of Tsushima is arguably Sony’s last hurrah before moving into the next generation. Thinking back to the original PS4 and its specs, it is incredible that a game like Ghost of Tsushima is able to run on such dated hardware, and yet offer a new, beautiful experience.

The art style and direction are impeccably done. It stays true to the Japanese culture and is visually eye popping.

For reference, I completed GoT on a PS4 Pro at 4K. As you explore the map, you will note that each section has its own distinct feel. And whilst we are on the map, let’s talk about fast travelling. It is insane to see what Sucker Punch managed to deliver here when confined to standard hard drive speeds. After completing Spider-Man, I couldn’t help but wish the PS5 was here now so I didn’t have suffer any more long loading screens. However, Ghost of Tsushima manages to make this experience significantly less painful and it is an impressive feat. Many open-world games can suffer from pacing issues when long loading times are introduced, but this is simply not the case in GoT.

The way you navigate around the map to your mission destinations and side-quests is very well done. Sucker Punch clearly intended for an uncluttered HUD experience, which is a great decision as it offers very little distraction and allows you to focus on the amazing art style. To navigate, a ‘guiding wind’ appears on screen, which is visualised by the trees and grasses blowing in your specified direction. It is elegant and simple, and something that I wish more open-world games would consider.

The fighting can be challenging, but hugely rewarding. This is not a hack and slash game, and nor should it be. I played this game on the challenging mode, which was brilliant. You have 4 stances you can take (technically 5, but I’ll say no more), and each stance is effective against a type of enemy. It works very well and is fluid. Perfect parrys and dodges will reward you with more effective takedowns and high damage. Alternatively, you can abandon the way of the Samuari and take on an assassin approach. Or, you can just settle with a bow and arrow. GoT really lends itself to different play styles and it is done incredibly well. You do not feel pressured to follow a particular path, and there are multiple outfits which offer bonuses for your desired play style. It can be as varied as you want it to be. I would occasionally swap between master assassin, samurai or as an archer. It kept the fighting and experience fresh.

My only criticism at this stage is the plethora of shortcut menus to access your kit and styles. Whilst I found the stances easier to navigate, I found choosing the kit less intuitive. I often went through long periods of the game not using certain items as I simply forgot which button combination it was and it would otherwise ruin the flow. Towards the end however I had just about managed to select all my equipment based on muscle memory. It may be worth spending some time getting used to this so you get the full experience.

The storyline is very compelling, as you would expect from a Sony exclusive. What struck me more, however, was that the side-questions were wonderfully done and incorporated. In many open-world games (I’m looking at you Horizon and Spider-Man), the side-quests often felt like a chore or tacked on. GoT doesn’t suffer this, they are very well incorporated and feel very much part of the world.

There is so much more I could say about this game. I held off for awhile as I was hoping the price would fall. However, Lockdown blues made me take the plunge and I am so glad I did. It is perhaps one of the best and most unique games I’ve played on the PS4. I tend to be apprehensive about open-world games as I find they can be in some instances torturous in length and pacing (RDR2 for instance), but I just couldn’t put this game down. I have yet to try out the multiplayer Legends mode, but I hear good things.

If you have been lucky enough to preorder a PS5, I would personally wait to play GoT on your new machine. In 60 FPS, this game is going to shine even brighter.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The best samurai game in a long time and a great fun for all, who love action. Love for Japan and its history is a big plus, but its knowledge is not necessary to enjoy every minute of this beautiful game. [Issue#305]

Ghost of Tsushima is a flawed, but fun, game. While the gameplay itself was solid, and the story was decent, I definitely expected a lot more from Sony’s final PlayStation 4 exclusive. It had enough to keep me hooked, but lacked the polish we’ve all grown to love from a Sony first party game.

Ultimately, it feels like the game could have benefited from a smaller scope or a more linear structure. Focus on the duels could have created a more engrossing product, especially if it honed in on the narrative for a more concise and cinematic experience. But as it stands, Ghost of Tsushima is another AAA open world title and doesn’t seek to define itself as anything other than that.
